1. Lesson 0 Main Intro: Hi, guys. My name is Robert Price, and I'm here to let you know about my new online training course called Learned to Read Music. This course is for anyone that's always wanted to be able to read music. Maybe you've never tried before. Maybe you already planning instrument, But you play by ear. Maybe he did it at school, and you never really understood it. Maybe you just want to do it, which is perfect. So any of those scenarios this court is for you. So you're gonna be taught over 25 lessons, right? From the very basics, right to the point where when you look a sheet of music, you know what? The dots me. You're also gonna know how long to presser notes. Therefore, you're gonna know which notes to play there. The three fundamentals. Wouldn't you understand those three fundamentals? You can put them together, and this is reading music. So that's what I'm gonna be teaching it. So about 30 years experience of teaching music. My lessons are always fun. I'm looking forward to being able to teach you something that's gonna be really valuable to you in the future. I have You're looking forward to starting this course with may. Let's get started 2. Lesson 1 Crotchets: Hi, guys. My name's Rob. Thank you for signing up to this course. We've got our first lesson today. I have comported. The first lesson is all to do with rhythm. So what we're gonna do is when you listen to this piece of music now way to do way Listening to that piece of music tap your foot. That's really good again. This time on your hands, you just wait. Nice. Just arrest every time we're clapping or tapping up for that's like an in built, almost pulled sick alike in our body. But when we listen to music with tap our feet with wire and we dance with your all sorts things like that he's called the baby excuse may be is everything in music. So when you listen to a piece of music when you touch me, put to it that in built port is built in practically everybody Let's do it again. Listen back to base. That's there's so many tapping away to say 1234 Okay, well, when you say these 1234 that's each beat of the bar. Okay, so what we're gonna do, we gonna count? 1234 throughout. Clap this time. Let's go. Ready? What? 23123412341234 to a 123 Well, then you can see that here still in the baby. That's good. Okay, So every time we're not in our head clapping our hands can 1234 Every one of those is one beat at this particular speed of music. So this isn't what to Yeah. Every one of those one beats is called in music. A crop teacher or dependent on what continuing. It could be called 1/4 note. A crotchety or 1/4 looks like this. And every time we listen to one for every time we see when a piece of music it could look like this. Well, this depending on where is on the actual piece of music. So crotch, it's quarter notes. Same thing one day each. Let's clap along. Do you want me at a time crunch is ready. Say way. Remember these points that you need to think about one Be no is a crotch. It it looks like this whenever you see one on the music, that's what they're gonna be one big crutches or quarter notes up to you. You can use whichever terminology suits you best. Okay, One will go just to make sure that stop our feet 1st 1 day at a time. Crunch is good way. Quarter notes. We've seen what they look like. We know what they are. We know that they last won be each lesson. Number one is all about crotch. It's We understand there's a work she attached. So what I want you to do is get the pdf download. How? Look at it. And there's gonna be some just little exercises for you just to have a look at some crutches for court in its OK, get up. Download that. I don't see you in a lesson number two. 3. Lesson 2 Minims in a minute: eyes. Welcome to lessen to This is the second lesson in your learned to read music course. This is a short lesson off everything. So we're gonna get started. This lesson is about a notes value cold a minute. I m I n I am over another countries. It's called 1/2 now. I mean, it looks like this, but depending where is in the music? It could also hope about this. Oh, this. Okay, we're gonna have to listen to some music. Listen to this music before. No, you can't beat this 11111 12 So, instead of saying 12 let's cut for that amount of time. It's time. This is a demonstration way. 2222 on two. How easy. Menus in a minute. Thanks to watch it 4. Lesson 3 What do you need: Hi, guys. My name's Rob Price. Thank you for choosing this. Learned to read music Course. This is just a quick video about the stuff that you will need in order to continue through the course. Nothing super expensive. Probably got most of it in your house. So firstly, we need one of these. This is my bad boy music writing pencil. I love this pencil about ages at Somerset. His big slow motion. Sorry. Then you'll need a writing pad writing pad issues just for you to write some information about the lessons I'm gonna give you. Also in the download section off this particular lesson. There is a document called manuscript dot pdf. If you download that is going to give you an a four sheet that before she's gonna music paper on which is called manuscript paper. Lots of groups of five lines printed down the page. Just print yourself a couple of these off. If you haven't got prints that don't worry. But if you have, that's great. We're also going to use some software which is free websites below just on pace to set up. So if you download that, I believe you can use that on Android and Apple on computers as well. So I tested it on my Mac book Pro. I've also tested on my iPad. So everywhere someone iPad generally it works on a iPhone. This is for doing notation of stuff like that. So you're gonna get to see that in the next lesson, we're gonna have a little overview about software. All you need is a little bit of time. But you could do this at your leisure whenever you want and follow through these lessons. Set. Let's get stuff. 5. Lesson 4 Flat io Software: Hi, guys. On the last session, we spoke about some software called Flat I. This is www dot flat dots are Oh, this is the scoring program I'm gonna be using to help you with learning music. Now, when you say stuff about scoring and stuff like that, it's going to sound quite daunting to start off with. But fear not. We have a plan, and it's going to be quite straightforward. So what I want you to do is go over to the Web site or download the app on once you have sort of signed up and got your account created, everything you're then faced with this page here create your first music school with flat. So what we're gonna do is we're gonna click new score or tap. We're gonna give it a name. So this name could be Let's call it music press. Continue it. Ask you what kind of instrument you're going to be using. This is gonna be straightforward shortly. So we're gonna pick keyboard on the piano and then create. Okay, so you're then presented with this screen. You may not have this piano keyboard of the bomb. If you haven't. There's a button up here which you can turn that on enough display or high to touch keyboard. So I like to have that. We're going to use that surely So be good. Let me go through the things that you can see on the screen here. There's some notes that we've done already. So we've got Krawczyk or 1/4 on a minute or 1/2 there. As you can see, this plenty of this. But we're gonna go through those as we go through the course. So here's the title. We can change it at any time by just clicking it. Changing the name and present save on here is the bit that's most important. Now when we've looked at music before, this is what people used to see it. So let me go through what we got Cratchit than an equals then 80. So this means this piece of music is at the speed off. 80 crotchety minute. So if we were to play this back, it sounds like this pass this pain three on that sound in the background there is called a mention. Okay, so that's very straightforward. Let me just turn up my keyboard a little bit. Okay, So two parts to piano music. We're only focusing on this course just on the top half on this squiggly sign here is called The Trouble Collect. This is going to be at the beginning of every part of the music. So what I would like you to do after you gory software settle if you print it off the pdf, the manuscript paper from the last lesson, I want you to have a go withdrawing some of these trouble clips. So if you have a look, it starts here on the second line, kills round, goes up over and stops there. So try drawing some of them on. Then we've got this, which is 44 things is also known as common time. But we'll go into that a bit later up. And then these squiggly lines here arrests on this particular piece of software. This teardrop means that that's where it's gonna play from. So what I'm gonna do, is it gonna click a crotchety? But I'm gonna move my mouth just over this bottom space here and I'm gonna click in again on it will play that note on the piano for we gonna cook again where the rest is. Then I'm gonna kick a guy. Look again. Okay, so now let's go back to the beginning on If you press space bar, this is a short court. This will help you to play the music. Let's have a listen to accounts in before. Okay, so you get the idea. Let's have another listen. And if you remember, when we were doing crutches in the crotch lesson, we clapped along with that. So let's do that this time. Ready? Okay. Okay. So that's very straight award. Now, this software, we can use it in various different ways. But what we're gonna concentrate on just to get used to somewhere is to do some more crotch . So let's click crotch. If you look at what's in brackets, they're inside straight precedent. It's gonna turn to Cratchit or record to know automatically what I want need todo Let's try and create a projects in the road along this bottom space. So I'm gonna that another one. Okay, then I go back and click on the 1st 1 So that's where we're going to start. Let's have a listen to how it sounds. Very good. Okay, So you can sort of see how crotch it's look on music on here. Them as well, which is really good. So you could experiment with this with your rhythm and time in Teoh, help you move along. Said during the lessons, Um, a bit like run down along. We're gonna use this flat software in order for you to practice different techniques. So let's just delete everything fat. That's change it slightly. Just a second. I change that to a minute. Let's change this one to a 1,000,000 this one on this one. Now let's go back to the beginning on. Listen to how this sounds. Remember that minimums were to counsel to bits. 1234123 full guys, it very useful. So the software is like that Also down here, you can use the keyboard to input notes as well. So that particular note that we're talking about is this note here down here. Sorry. And it puts it on automatically, but we're going to do that later. So what we're gonna do is get you to load this software on, have a little play with that. That's just a quick overview over the flat software Obviously, we're going to use this quarter lot as we go along in the course, so you know better. And my never practice with it where you kept. And for now, the flat software is done. We're gonna come back to it later. So thank you. And we'll see you in the next lesson. 6. Lesson 5 Putting it all together part 1: Hi, guys. Welcome to this lesson. Which is called Putting it together part one. So we're gonna put together today are crotch it's and our millions. So first of all, before we do anything, we need to music to get going. Have a listen. Get your foot. Tap it going on everybody place. You can smile oil like it's meant to be fun. Okay, we're gonna clap projects one on everything. Ready? Yeah, that's excellent. Very good. Hey, guys. Very good. I kind of have a rest. We're gonna do Minimizes time. 2 to 3 to 3 to 4. Excellent. Well done. OK, this time a mixture we're gonna do to truck. It's one minute longer on the screen to crutch. It's one minute. Here we go. Have a listen first. Two rockets. One minute. Here we go. Want to joining? If you know already. Excellent. Let's walk that round. Let's go. One million, then to truck it. So it's a to be to be like this on the screen to be to Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Okay, Excellent. Let's do one love minimums and then four crutches. Troy ready to go? That's excellent. Really good. OK, That's what around this time that the four projects to minimize four crop gets ready. Steady. That's really good. We've got excellent on that. So now we know how to combine millions and crutch. It's There's some exercises for you in the Pdf document, which you'll find in the download section. If you do have any problems, please ask. I'm always happy to help in the downloads section. There's gonna be a little bit of a test on this one today. It's going to ask you to put in some rhythms like millions crotches, and it's gonna be your first time writing music for yourself. Said That should be, As I said before, any questions, Please let me know. Remember that this lesson was all about putting everything together that we've learned so far. So we've now got a mixture of corrupt. It's on minimums, and we know what they looked like on the music. Thanks for watching this episode on. I'll see you on an extra. I call that an episode Then then that I meant a lesson I was telling for a minute. I'm glad you enjoyed the lesson. See, in the next one. Thank you way 7. Lesson 6 Semi Breathe: Hi guys. This lessons called Semi breathe, not semi brief, semi breathe. We're gonna use a bit of breathing in order to find out all about the nuclear. Next we're gonna learn, which are four beat notes. So let's get some music off. First of all, as usual. Always do is way Smile. Okay, lets go of what we've done. We don't trust you way already. So today we're gonna do for weakness. Easy. Listen to 3 to 3 to 3 to 3 to 3 To 3, 234234 Dead. Easy. Yeah, Medical semi Braves. Oh, come home. This It doesn't matter a position where it is on the music. It'll Westside saying so what we're gonna do just to get used to express little exercise? Do it Breath in, breath out. We're gonna breathe in before we bring out before the next trial. First you watch every day you drive. Now, Now ask or rather to do a little breathing. We didn't happen. Let's try and do that together. Oh, this is gonna be far. I'll demonstrate. You copy. Way you drive a Okay, So that's the seven brief. We did a bit of breathing hence the title I liked absent in a different You know what I'm like. So now we know crotch, It's me names. We know semi breathes. We've got 1 May well have to beats on. We've got four bits. Everything's going really loud. Now everybody's going to ask all. Probably be thinking no aspect in a site. Okay, Did one. Unity for West three three is coming a little bit like because we have to change something , so don't worry. I haven't missed at it, is there so to reiterate today's lesson or this lesson dependent lifted in more than one in a day is all about semi broods. Cemeteries have four beats going. Have a look at the worksheet that's attached on the downloads section on. That's it for this lesson. I'll see you on the next one 8. Lesson 7 Quaver Time: Hi, guys. Welcome to this lesson. This lesson is entitled. Quite a time. It's got nothing to do with Chris whatsoever. Especially these ones. Have you seen these before? If you're outside the UK, just have interest drops. Um, that's in the comments. England, These are, like, standard crisp. Everybody would know what these are. I just wondered if anybody else in the world knew what they were do you have in many other countries, let me know, got absolutely nothing to do with music other than they've got the same name as this Next. This is a quiver. Now, this note is known as a Cueva in Britain, but all the way. All the places in the world it's, knows an eighth lit. A Cueva on its own singularly could look like this. You can turn it upside down on this, depending on where is in the music on. If they're group together, that can look like this so they can look quite different. However, they all have the same individual. So what we're gonna do, get some music, our get our foot tappin, learn all about Quakers. Okay, So get yourself ready. Let's tie before master smile. So I start to smile. Learning music should be fun. Okay, now we've learned crotch. It's we've learned minimums on We've learned. Sammy proves so Let's go over them first crotch. It's ready. Steady, Stu. Millions to H 2 to 3 to three. To sandy Bridge for 234 for very good. Okay, so we've covered everything that we've learned so far. Let's do seem quite even this time I'm gonna can't differently. Someone account for seven. Listen, we're gonna get out of this one. Anti entry. And for what? 23 on what? Empty entry. And for on this time, you have to get 1 21 1234 and anti. This time, let's clap along that the sons are get ready. Very say, 1231 21. Temple. That's really good. Welcome. Okay, So you got to these to everyone be That's what we've got. The and you try ready every good pass. We got a lot of states straightforward. Okay, we have quite a miss with that half of the H in other countries they called notes. They look like this like this. This I'm not crisps. Unless you're a shop. When you're not doing music. They're half of beach. We need to remember that. OK, on the next lesson, we're gonna put all this stuff together. It's going to be really good. Okay, so this lesson is don't remember flavors half a big I'll see you on the next one. 9. Lesson 8 Putting it together part 2: hi, guys. And welcome to this lesson called Putting It All Together Part two. So this lesson is going to go over everything that we don't so far with a different no values, firstly, some simple patterns and then getting more complex. So we're gonna go through crotch. It's millions, semi Braves and Quakers and a mixture of all those patterns. So has no when it's immediate, so get foot tapping. First of all, I'm gonna do a crotchety very next coming up with a mini impact to teach evolution. First tithe next one's daisy to seven briefs for Have a listen very dark. This time I'm gonna do a mixture. Have a listen to the okay, you one more time. It's on the street for years. You consider it a preference? The next one on the screen already. Okay, Very good. Next plan on the screen for you Now, next on the street. Oh, okay. For two for one in the last three. More complicated. Listen, how long did it get used to cut projects? Four star Steve me names this time. Ready, Sammy. Ready? Quite is this time. And that was really, really good. We've worked on that today we've gone through everything we've done so far. These words are really, really good lesson for you to practice these rhythms. So what I would suggest is using this lesson. If you get confused by sort of rhythm patterns, when you joining the different types of notes together, this is the one to go back to because you can see on the screen you can clap along with it if you can see on listen Teoh and cup along with it. That gives you everything that you need. So use this as your reference point all the time for using, you know, quiet apartments, Cratchit patterns, many important celebrate patterns. All that a man on mixed together. If you use those, you know exactly what you do as usual. If you've got any questions, just ask fucking how are? Well, there's gonna be a little bit of homework with the excess normal in the download section. So if you go to the download section on download follows in that this will ask you some questions about the exercises that we just don't. And maybe he's going to ask you questions about Can you cut this pattern? You know, right down pattern even and then cut out yourself. Get used to this kind of thing. All of this rhythm work is gonna come into play when we look at the keyboard on a piano in later on lessons. But for now, we just stick into river. You do really well. Keep it, Gary. That's the end of this lesson, guys. Have you enjoyed it? I'll see you on the next one. 10. Lesson 9 Review Lesson: Hi, guys. Welcome back. This is the next lesson. This is a review of what we've done already on. This lesson is going to be a software only lesson. So we're going to go back to the website, which is www dot flat dot oreo. If you haven't already registered there from previous lessons, do that. Now. Just pause the video. And then once you set up, we can go back into it. So excuse me. Yes. So what we're gonna do is go over the crotch. It patterns the minimum patterns, the cemetery patterns on the Cueva patterns. But we're going to see them in actual musical form on the stage, which is the five lines of music in front of us, and then play them back so we can listen. And then hopefully it's gonna make more sense to you. So first of all, we'll go back to our Cratchit pattern if you remember. Before we have this at the beginning. This was to do with the speed. This means 80 crutch. It beats per minutes. This is always per minute after beats per minute. You'll sometimes see on music bpm just short on down. So when unplanned a piece of music at 80 beats per minute. If I just press the space bar, that's how fast it's gonna get. 1234 If I change this 240 and then do the same again, can you see the difference there in speed? So what we're gonna do just for the sake of this tutorial, I'm gonna go back to 80 on, then I'm Let's listen again. He always gives you a four beat counting. 1234 So, as we did earlier in ah, I think it was about the fourth lesson. I can't remember the exact number, but in that lesson, we did some crotch. It's, um, semi briefs, um, minimums and stuff like that just to learn how to use the software. So what I want you to do is set yourself up on Let's get a new set up completely. So if you press the button on the top, left the logo for the flat Toyo website, you can get a new score or tab. So let's do that. Let's call this learning. Sorry. Learning their ropes. Okay. Then we pick a keyboard instrument and then piano and impress created and here we go. We've got a title and then learning the ropes. So what I want you to do is let's pick a Cueva or 1/4 note. So we compress number three for that. If you put your mouth where you want it to go in this bottom spice and press number three, then we're gonna put a Karachi recon. Just click it. Let's put four of those in, and look, it's given us some more space, so let's put some more. Every time we get to the end, it's gonna give us more space. Okay, so that's just how the software works. So let's have a listen to this. Let's press the playbook. Four beats counting, so Okay, Excellent. We did that pattern just on the last lesson in the exercises, so everybody knows how to do that. Now let's change it, Teoh minimums. Just do it quickly. Okay, then back to the beginning. Here we go. Let's have a listen. Excellent. Then we go over to Cuevas. Now we haven't seen quite was on this before, so let's That's changing. Let's put some mean and then we need another one here. Let's do them here. Sorry, about this annoying noise. I know it's probably getting on your nerves, but it's giving you the right information, which is really important. Melia two more excellent. And then let's put that back to the beginning on Let's have a listen to that four camps. Excellent. So that's all the stuff that we've done at the moment. So let's make this up a little bit now on. I'm gonna change the 1st 1 to a crop chip and then we'll have to quiet was just there that I'm gonna change this one to a Cratchit on, then to Quivers. And then we do the same again in this patent. So let me just say that this note here change it to a cross check and so that listeners here and change to a crotchety. Now, if you've been following the course and you're, um you understand what the rhythms do and you should be able to clap this one out straight away. So what I want to do is when I press play after the counter for ways to see if you can clap along with it, Okay, let's just get it back to the beginning. 23 Thanks. So Let's do that once more, just to make sure we know what we do. So we go one. Okay, Excellent. So in this pattern, here's the four Beach. Look, there's beat one beat, too. Is this one? Because this is to have to put together beat three and then beat for B one. Beat too. Beat three and then beat. For with this, let's go back to something a bit more simple. Just change it back to crotches. Okay? Okay. Can you see now with this? We've got full crotch. It beats in each. But now with this in our next lesson, this is going to become important in this At the beginning of the piece of music here, we've got this 44 The perfect description for this is four crotch. It beats per bar. So we got 1234 We're gonna go over there is just in very like detail. Just on the next lesson. Just so you're aware this has got its own name. That's called a time signature. Okay, let's make some more patterns. Let's delete all these notes on Let's put, uh, let's put a semi breathe on. Let's put it on this bottom line again on. Then let's put some quietness. 64 this time on, then let's do to crotch. It's okay, Sam. Again, before we start, this is the speed. See if you can cut back. Ready? Go. Yeah, No, Let's see if that's right. Let's have a listen. Very good. Okay, So what we're gonna do if you're just gonna have a couple more goes at these different patterns on, then I can leave you to play with software. Let's dio for quietness. Yeah, I'm sorry. That's not quite right. This is great. But maybe get in a minute, then another minute, Uh, and then to crotch, it's and then press pack writing. Okay, let's say that once more. Okay, So what I want you to do he's have a mess about with this. Save that. It's I think it saves automatically sort of every one minute or something, so you can come back to a later date. But use this is your template to practice your different different rhythm exercises and you'll get really, really used to it. Now, when you're using this music in front of you, you're getting used to seeing you getting used to hearing it so you can see where the dots sort of hard light. So you know where to clap or play the note. So we're making amazing progress. If you're not following or you got a question, please ask if you are following. You do Well, you don't. That's really good as well. I'm so this lesson is done. I'll see you on the next one. 11. Lesson 10 Time Signatures: Hi, guys. Welcome to this lesson. This lesson is title time signatures. Now, time signature is nothing to do with the way that you know the sign of Jack Garner. It is the second thing normally on a piece of music. Firstly, they have trouble cleft, which I asked you to draw. So when an earlier lesson on then we have this time signature now spoke about it briefly in the last lesson on you have the time signature than in the example of shows you on the last lesson. There was a for another 444 that with that four for which ships on this the top number, um, is how many on the bottom number is a division of the same breed. That sounds so complicated. It's somebody. So let's go into indeed help thing actual description of that thing, the time to get today. Where is for for these four crotchety Bates football. So that's our number is easy to understand because that's how many other insects for the bottom number. If you use that number to divide the semi breathe. So you've got semi brave equals forbids. Divide it by the talk of what you get for divided by four equals one. So one beaten is a crotchety so full crotch it beats her bar. That's what that stands now that when we've done our examples away through the course so far, everything believed on this at a time signature off for so 44 is the most common on as such has a symbol, which is this this symbol stands for common time. This common time is for for So it's just another way of writing for for So if you see the see all the four for, they're gonna be the same now, in this course, we're gonna go over 44 on another one, which is 34 that these two have a different field at 44 years. Lots of it would have been stamping out for Been counting for was that 1234 And then we've got another one, which is not quite so popular nowadays. On this is 3434 is three crunchy Bates now three country beats per bar generally used to be classed as waltz. So 12312123 You haven't revolts have a lot of strictly come dancing's on every week. That's the So what we're gonna do is I'm gonna introduce to both with time signatures so that we get dressed into some different. So I'd like you to listen to this one first. For this, you get three times four times. Okay, that's against his on screen. Let's listen to another one. What's the feel of the music having times your weight? Okay, let's do another this time. Music. Have you decided? 34412 We're gonna do to know, have a listen to this track. What you see is ready for or four for usual. Czar of internal polls. Your natural rhythm tap before city Camp three off the jets. Okay, we design it. But his answer. Did you get it right? One more. Okay. This one last track. Have a listen. We need to do geo relations. Trying to find out what time seeing interest is it. 344 way, way, way difference to train 3444 There's a distinctive difference in the sound, isn't it? I know that on the examples are chosen, some of the 34 songs are a little bit slower, but you get the general field. But there's a difference in the field and the sound of Pence's. So at the beginning of a piece of music, you'll get you trouble Cliff, and then your time signature time signature tells you how many beats per. But now when we say about bars, we've looked at these earlier on that, but we have a Triple Crown, then it's arm signature. So say, say 34 This means three crotch. It beats per bar so you could have three beats of music on, then a bottle like this. It was brought forward to lots of that. Then it's separated. Okay, so what I'd like you to do A. There's a worksheet that you can download. I want you to have a look on, try and work out. How many beats football Jimmy examples off there on the damn just so you can see how it works. If you have any questions, please ask me. I'm available to help camp on. But if you need to do any more work on this that mention it in the comments below, maybe I could do an additional essay just so that you can have some. We've got over time signatures. So just to reiterate what we've spoken about 44 is full. Krotchy beats above. This is the most common times in nature. So whatever. Feel off. What? Okay, I also known as common time, which gives you that sort of curly C shape on. Then we've got 34 which isn't so common nowadays, but its not a classic quartz kind of things. 23 And they should be written this three and four underneath. Right. Next trouble. So now we know what times in which is up. Well, then, everyone, that's the end of this lesson. So you next time. 12. Lesson 11 Time for a rest: high guard made again. Nice to see you. This lesson is called time for a rest. The reason it's called time from arrest is because we're gonna talk about this Silence and music. Silence in music is called arrest. So it was once said, Now I'm reading this off a piece paper, so don't judge me. Music is not the notes, but the silence between them that was set by a famous composer. So this is very true. So without the silence, the notes would just be continuous all the time. So we're going to study and find out all about the different kinds of rest that we're going to use in this course today. So we're going to use three different types. They've got very familiar standing name, so the 1st 1 is a Karachi arrest. Now, if you used your logic from what we've learned about crutches, you can already know how many beats this is. Yes, that's right. It's one. Be a Cratchit rest. Let's not this that is one bait you can't want. Okay, that's good. And then we've got a minimum rest very straightforward to bits minimus on this. And then the last one, we're gonna use today. The semi. Bree rest. So this is four bits there is. Okay. Now you'll notice the 1,000,000 Sam, you breathe. Rest look really, really similar. But there is a difference. So, Sam, a brief rest like this one hang from the line a lot. They're hanging off on a 1,000,000 breast. Six on the line. I remember from when I was learning music when I was young. They have been many rest. Looks a little bit like a top, so it's resting on the line. 16. Andre on the other one is a cemetery breast. That's how I remember it. So meaningless that want to remember sitting on the low block top. Okay, let's get a feel. That's good. Okay, this time, let's just clap crotch. It's ready. Okay, let's go to crutch. It's on then to be rest and then two projects to read. Okay. So wear were not happy that there be no playing. You take fingers on the kids. Let's do another one. Let's do a crunch. It rest. A project note. Breast way. Okay, you try. Hey, we got this right. Ready? Steady. Go. Rest. Rest. Rest. Very good. Okay. Next one. we're gonna do a minute. No meaning breast like this already. That's very good. Okay, I got one more pattern. We're gonna start with a four beat breast, and it will need to back scratcher, then arrest. And Okay, so listen way. Want to 34? Yes. 123 Best. 1234 Rest best. 1234 You try. Ready to rest. Rest. 1234 Breast rest. 1234 Best best. 123 rest. That's very good. So when, uh um rests that it's really important that you can get these the right amount of time. It takes a little bit of practice, but when we get to use the piano keyboard Sure. Excuse me. Will be able to see how to do those set just to go over what we've done so far in this lesson, we've done Cratchit rest, which works on a week like this 1,000,000 rest, which sits on the line. Looks like a top athletes like this to bits. The other one that hangs from the line. This 173 rest four beats. These are the three rest that we're gonna use. It was a nice, concise, easy lesson. If you don't understand, please ask if you have any questions. Also asked How you getting on? Tell me to put some stuff in the comments for me. So they out everyone's didn't. There is a worksheet as normal in the download. So if you go grab that their basic questions in their toe just easy stuff like you know how many beaches this rest? What does this rest Do you know that you'll be able to do it? It's no problem. That's it for this letter. Thanks for watching guys see in the next one. 13. Lesson 12 Dotty: Hi guys. Welcome to this last. Send this lessons called Dottie. It's all about extra things on the music. So the extra things we're gonna talk about are just dots. So so far, we've gone through corrupt chips. You've gone through meetings and have gone through semi breeze earlier on in the course are dead. Mention that I was going to talk to you about where the three beat No Waas. Yes, that's right. It's here to that. So it's really easy. What we're gonna do is I'm going to introduce this dot You introduce it a minute. What that does is makes him a minute predates. But in order to be three bits, we have to say that I have to say Dr any note with duct by the side, it increases its value if you look at the minimum. Originally, it was to know about this and then we got a doctor, me and then it makes it three things. What that doctor does is adds 50% off the value of the notice next. So if you got to beat name, get 50% that's added together. There's your three weeks. Okay, So in with that in mind. Let's think about crutch. It's so we've got a crotch it like this. Then we go out a doctor. The side of it. Now that dot goes there, this is now called a doctor to crotchety. Now for that to be a dotted crotch it What is the value off that whole thing? The projects one and the doctors were 50% off the neck. So 1.5? Yeah. We don't say 1.5 music this 1.5. So 1.5 beats. Okay, so let's go back. Doctored 1,000,000. How many beats? That's right. Three. Dr. Cratchit there, ISS How many beats one of the heart now, these quite difficult to count. Especially 1.5 3 point. Easy. Have 1.5 A supportive. So what we're gonna do, we've got some different kinds of exercises in order for you to remember. So we're going to do this without a musical background this down just to get used to stuff a little bit. So, first of all, we're going to start with this kind of speak, thanks to its bull for again I want to do is hold down the 1st 1 for three. Big. So we're gonna thio Thio 3 to 30231230 that's very good. Okay, so that's very simple. Now the dotted crotch. It is a little bit more difficult. It helps if you do a whole line of so, um to get used to it. Staff. Because it's 1.5. You can't go 1.5 do. What do you remember earlier on? When we get quiet was we were, what, 30 banditry and foot? Well, that one and two and three and four on gives us positions for quietness. That half of it. So maybe if we did the 1.5 bee, no bee dotted crotch it a bit one and two. There's three hearts put together. So, too. You see that too? They get back up now. Yeah, that's very good. Okay, now what we're gonna do, we gonna put a quiet for being, So we're gonna go on Teoh. Now, I'm going to repeat that pattern over and over, so this is very good. Okay, good way of remember. And this pattern is using these words fish and chips and fish and chips, they tend. Okay, So what we're gonna do, we gonna put that together in our next lesson using the flat software so that you can hear how it sounds when you look at the notes, actually on the music. So for this lesson, we've gone over dotted crotch is 1.5 beats like this. We've got over Dr Williams. Three beats like this. We've gone over listening to how long they last war. We know how long that lasts. For one thing to remember when you see a dotted crops it, then it quite patently before that fish and chips in his really helpful without you. Really? Rhythm said chips on. Okay, I'm hungry. Now that's it for this lesson. Welding, everyone. I'll see you in the next one. 14. Lesson 13 Tie It Up: our guys may again welcome to this next lesson. Thes lesson is called tying up Now. It's not a whole the power air time people are who are doing stuff flat. No, no, it was nothing to do with that. Why it's to do with ease extending the length of a note. So, for instance, we've already done crotch. It's which will one day there's a crunchy. Then we've done May names which were to Bates has a minute, and we've been semi Braves. Which of four beats? Which there? Yes, and we've done a doctored minute, which is there, which is three bits now. If we were also, we've done quite this half a bit on now. If we were Teoh want and know which goes across a bar. So if you remember our 44 which was common time for Cratchit beats for the hardest of that . We've got four beats and in a bar line, so we couldn't have five beats. Say we've who wanted the last week Teoh last three. Maybe. How could we do it? So, for instance, if we've got four crotch, it's in the bar like this. And we wanted that last crotch it to last forces three camps we can't just after bar line and then put the note is enough to repeat it again. So the way we're gonna do that is we're gonna put a thing called a tight on it like this. The tie goes there. Now, this tie can only be used on notes of the same pitch. So if you were to have say this f here and then have a tight and join it to a new the different pitch note, that wouldn't be correct. That be called a slow. So we're looking at toys. So what we're gonna do is we're going to extend the length of this f No. Here, we're gonna make it three beats in total. So what we do is we put the one big note there, then the type and in the two Bittner. So if I clapped that back to you, this goes like this. 123412 So it's held on in the middle. Esther that again, or 12 So there's our tie. Ties are very easy to understand. I'm gonna give you some different examples so that you can get used to have a book. So let's do to minimums to millions Look like this. So that sounds like to bring for Okay. Now, if we wanted that last minute to last another two beats and we're just gonna hold that sound like we can do a lot this we've got to millions, and then we're gonna add our toy, and then we're gonna join that to another 1,000,000 in the next bar, which means holding on you. Don't let go. So it's not gonna go from 23412 Let go. Okay, let's try that. Two for one to asset. Okay, so that's what that looks like. We're gonna have another example this time. Let's do a three beat note, which is adopted. Minute. There. This. Now we're gonna have a crotch onto the end of that like that. So that makes our four based. Let's clap that first. See what? 123 Okay, let's do that again. 23 Perfect. That's wonderful. Now what we're gonna do is we're gonna add a semi. Breathe onto that. Making that last No, in that bar, that crotch. It actually last for five beats. So there's a crotchety There's the tar and there's a semi brief on the end. So that last note now less with fire boots. So it sounds like this. 2341234 Let's do that again. 123123 That's excellent. A couple more examples just to make sure you completely understand. Let's dio I to crutch. It's and then a medium about this to for okay, we're not to be that we're doing lots of times in this course before on. And then let's had to send me a brief on the end of that. So as normal, we do our to Crouch. It's then I met him when we had our toy because this is going to extend the length of the note. And then we're going to do it on the same pitch on your semi brief there so that whole notes at the end is going to last for six beats in total. So it's gonna go. 12341234 Let's do that again. 2341234 Very good on lettuce. Do once more this time we're gonna change things around. Another long notes start with so will ever send me brief lot that we're gonna join that to a crotch it. So let's have our Thai. And then let's have our Croucher. So that's in total. That's five beats. But then let's add another doctor's minimally and the three big note. Okay, so this is gonna sound like this on 2341234 Let's try again. 1234123 So that's excellent world. So that's ties. Remember, a tie can only be used when it's a note of the same pitch, and it's used to extend the length of the note over a bar. Lloyd. Okay, so if we can fit within the bar, it's just gonna be as it normally is. But if it's going to be longer and it's gonna fit, it is enough to go into the next bar. Then you need to use a toy. Not one of these at Teoh. Extend the note. How did you understand that? If you have any questions, ask as normal. I'll get back to you as soon as I can. It's been a pleasure teaching you on this little short lesson on. I'll see you on the next one 15. Lesson 14 On The Pitch: Hi, guys. We're back again. Have welcome to this lesson called on the Peach part one. This lesson is all about learning what notes are called in which position they are on the piano keyboard. So we're gonna start easy. We're going to look at the state, which is over here. The state is the five lines that we've spoken about before. The five lines also have supposes in between them. If you have a looking with the spaces, there are four in total. So we're gonna look at the bottom space. This is an F and then the next vice. This isn't I next spices a C and in the next place after that he said bottom space F San Spice, I third space. See fourth space E. That's really, really good. OK, so as you can see, it spells a word face. So remember when you're looking at the music and you want to know what notice is if it's in a space, the spaces spell the word face. This sounds like a Taliban. Doesn't work, not wrapped. Definitely not a wrap up. Oh, yeah, F a c. Okay, face, face in the space. So what? We're gonna do we gonna have a little go? So bottom space, this is Yeah, well done. Second space I third space transfer at before I give you the answer. See? And in the last space is a very, very straightforward. Okay, so we're over here at the notation software. This time I'm using a piece of software called Sebelius. You can get this from avid dot com. Sebelius comes in a couple of different versions. This one is the professional version, but there's also one called Sebelius. First, that's a free download, and you can use that as you wish. But you know, this is the same as the frame oil. The differences with this one is I've got midi cable connected in order to be able to show you some different things. So, as we said before, we've got the stage, which is the five lines here. 12345 We've also got the four spaces, which is space number 123 and four. So, with these bases, what I'm gonna do some impressing on the keyboard, which corresponds to these first of all, though, before we do that, I'm just gonna put in these notes this is the bottom space that we spoke Apam There's the f and then we have the I in the sea and then a So if I just put some lyrics on there, you'll see we're gonna dio just a second human go. So I'm gonna point if there on either see that on either. Okay, so that's giving us everything we need. Now, what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna press the corresponding note to match on the, um keyboard so that you can see what comes up on the music when I play it. If I press this f note here, there it is. Well, what kind then we got on I note what's when I let my finger go? There it is. And then we have a C and then we haven't a So when I'm playing these notes here, I'm on my keyboard. If I play the f and then let go, this is Can you see where this is? On the keyboard? Up end of the one. So he played to the same time. If just a both see then this to another I and then a c on any. Okay, if you look at the function and the set up of the keyboard. You've got pairs of black notes. You've got threes of black notes. Eso What we need to do is just find out exactly where this f notice around the middle of your keyboard, you'll have a note which, sometimes on a keyboard, is noted to see four. But basically, this is a middle seen. So in music, it looks like this. If I play it, it looks like that vast the note we're after then we have d next. Have a look at that in the music, just one step above everything's made out of lines and spaces and we have a But then we're going on to our spaces. So tell me what this is. And then and I and then we have see, and then we have e Very good. Okay, so I'm gonna just take all these notes bath, take a second. Also their lyrics as well. Let's get rid of them. Okay. I'm gonna play some notes and I want you to do is tell me when I press it. What notes they are. So here we go. First. Name bottom space. Yes, that's right. It's an F and then and I then see then in a Yeah, so it's very straightforward. Let's do this one. When was that second space up? I don't let me have C. Let's do this one again. I f listed the top space Was that if a c and then the top one that's e What's that? See then I then s So we've got lots of different notes there. I'm gonna take all those back again on if I'm going to just press a no on the keyboard. You can do this with your mouths. Actually, there is. That's an F So C then d then e and F and then we're going to do and I So this works C D E f g. And then we did bay and then see So the way that music works and with the notes, basically, we have a B c D e f g a B c d e f g a b c d e f g a whale on the keyboard. So if you started a C next to the two black ones just on the left C d E f g, and it starts a p c and you just keep going like that on a piano keyboard. So we've done an F and then in a let's do a C and then let's do the next e up. So C then d then. So that's what it looks like our music as well. So hopefully that's giving you a bit of an insight into what the spaces are. So if you have any questions, please ask. Of course, as normal is something to download for you. T have a little go out, have a test, put some notes in names from knows, just see. You know that you getting everything right. I look forward to teaching in the next lesson. Thanks very much for watching. 16. Lesson 15 On The Pitch 2: Hi guys. Hey, do. And this is the next lesson and the learned to read music course This is called on the pitch part two. So for on the pitch Part two, we've already done part one, which was the spaces, which was the f a, C and E. Now we're going to do the lines, so let's go back to the stage. Here's the state. The state is the five lines, remember? So we're gonna get from the bottom line all the way to the top line. I'm going to tell you why each No, it's called. So the first note at the bottom is called A. It looks like this on. Then we have G. This is the second line up, and then the third line up is Bay Havelock. Full line is day. That's that one. There on the top line is an F So that's that one. That if you put them all together, they look like this. Excuse me. Beat, beat, beat DNF. Now there's an easy way of remembering these notes. You need every green boss drives fast, and I've heard of other ones before. Like every good boy deserves favour. Every good boy deserves football, but the one that are uses every green bus drives fast. I like that one the best. It's easy to remember. Every green boss drives fast E g bay de on f So that's quite difficult compared to the faces in the spaces. But it is easy to remember when she don't get a little bit so e g b d LF let's head on over Teoh the software to the keyboard to have a look at how this looks in music on with the keys on the keyboard Here we go. Hi, guys. So it back in Sibelius lively were on the spices lesson. We're gonna be talking about the e g b, d and effort we just learned. So these notes are on the lines. So first of all, what I'm gonna do is go back to this first rest here for a second on, I'm gonna play and he how that sit on the cable, that decision Middle. See this. See for now on a on a long play G, then a B that you can see where a than a day and then in F. So these are the five notes that we learned and let's go back to the beginning of that. So if you remember, we used Iran, which was every green boss drives fast. So this is the E here. The first note, the first line. But you can see it's resting that the line goes directly through the middle. And then our next note. If you look at the keyboard, appear less press. This is a then we have F G. Now this is the G for the word green. So we've now got every and then green on. Let's do the next one. We know that it's boss so we could go E G. Then the next note is I. And then we have beats. O. B is for Boston. Press it. There is. It's on the music that now it's important. I explain at this point, how can you see how the stick is down on the left hand side rather than on the right hand side? This is because when you get to the center line is actually a choice of which soared. You want it bought after the center line and or the stick always goes down and on the left hand side. That's what that's the only difference between the way that the notes look. So these are the same length of time. He's a crotch. It's like we did before. However, when it gets to the center line, the line normally goes down on the left and then from there up look, whenever I move my mouse, the lines on the left for go down when you said the line changes and that's what it does that Okay, So our next note after the big I think of every green boss and then it's drives. So let's go eat and f then g than A and B C. And we're looking for days. So let's play and there is no middle one mourner, D, E and F Okay, so our notes are eight from the c d p f g B C D E f G Just keeps Cannot that so I e. Benji, then be mentee. Then, after it's just do some more of those his in A and the energy Can you see how that he pretty spaced as well? There's just one there in between them. Can that be on a day on then? Now it's saying the notes that are in between this one equal space if you look e g b deep if. Have a guess what? The notes are there in between these lines. We've already done them up. Here's a the next one is there? If you remember back at the spaces, we have f a c m p so that covers all of our notes from this. See here, Teoh this a here. So let's do it again. Thistles. Bottom me, then g then be then d and then, uh yeah, very good. Okay, so we've now know what we do. Let's take this with back a little bit. So I'm going to put a note on here, and I want you to say out loud Now, have a look around you, Justine. Glad you're on a boss or trying. You know, people wondered why you share in the letter. Itsy itsy No. Okay, well, actually, the 1st 1 is a so I helped a little bit there. What about this one? Remember, count the lines. P, G, B, D and F. Every green lost drive fast. So I'm gonna do this. Or is it? It's a GI. That's right. And they pick this top one this time. So counted the lines. Every green post charge. Moses. Very good. Very good on. And the next one? Let's put war just on this long. What is it? It's a big That's right. Never got one more. This is a day. So in your pdf document that you can download this stuff that you can practice with your lines and spaces. I'm after just downloading that and having a little go filling in notes. Have a bit of practice. There's some good stuff in there, so I think you'll enjoy it. If you do have any questions you can always come back to me on, I'll answer them as quickly and as concisely as possible so that you can move on with the course on, Get through it again. I hope you enjoy on what we're doing at the moment. You should by now know Andi their lines on the spaces. As I said before, it was any problems. Just give me a shot up your we can resolve it. Um however, one more time before we go button like a Benji, then be bendy. And then, uh, yeah, very good. Okay, so we've got those notes. I think we know what we're doing. Remember Middle C d E f g A B c. Okay. See you next time. Thank you. That's it for this one. 17. Lesson 16 The Keyboard: Hi, guys. They do. And welcome to this next lesson. This next lesson is all about the keyboard instrument. So the keyboard instrument and is what we're gonna focus on when it comes to playing some notes, the notes that we've read so far. So let me explain a little bit about how the keyboard works on my keyboard. Here. If you look, this is the far end. This is lowing. So this is down at the left. This is up with the right. When you talk about going up in music, you go up to the right. When you talk about going down, you go down to the left. So up to the right, down to the left. It's very, very straightforward. Now, if you look at the structure of a keyboard instrument, it's got all these lovely black more keys. The easiest way to explain how the keys were kissed so that we look at the black notes first of all. So if we look at the black notes, we've got pairs off two black notes than three. But notes two black notes, three bladders to 32 away. Oh, on down the keyboard now! Amit, sitting in the center of this instrument. Sort of in line with the middle of your chest on. We're trying to find a note called Middle Seat. So if you have not done this before, just have a quick look. It's quite straightforward. What I want you to do is I want to find the middle or clashes to the middle pair off, black notes to together. Well, I want you to dio these two here, while I do is I wanted to find a note directly to the left, which is just the left off. These two got next lessons from this'll one eyes called Middle C, and this is your first starting. This is the note that we're gonna use for reference all the time when we're trying to find the rest of the notes. So as we said earlier about how the notes work in one of the lessons we said that it goes a B C d e f g i v c d e f Jake I bait way haven't done the baby. Yeah, but we're gonna do those later. That's we don't see a G said the same is the alphabet. Really see the F and G So that's gonna get a B C D e f g again. So this is middle C just to the left of these two black notes here and then the next night opposite day. And then we have a now on your music to lessons ago we did every Greenbush drive past. This is the bottom line of your music. Just here. The so the next. Now up some of the alphabet is F. This is the first space on your music like this. I'll show you on the screen there. And then we got the next note, which is a G. Now. When we learned this lines, it was every green. So that's G. This is the second line, and there's a picture of it just there on. Then we've got the next night, which is an I. This is the second space up. As you can see on it's the second space off the word face that we did before. And then we've got the next night after I which is B. This is the third line up, so every green bus bigger that's on the screen. Therefore yet on then we've got sick another. See this isn't middle season xsi up this See, here is the third space upon your music so that when we spell in face F c on then we've got the next note. Let the alphabet after. See, we've got a day. This is the fourth line up. So every green bus drives there is there on screen for you on day after day, We've got a very good and this is the top space. So f a c Eat it for the spaces if you remember, And then our next note which is an f follows in the alphabet thistles the top line. Okay, as you can see that So what we're gonna do? You got middle c de on then, eh? On an s, then G I bay c can you see other sees just to the left of the two black notes. Like it was on the middle C Yeah, thank God. Just another sick on Indeed a men s Okay, so we've done from middle C c d e f g a big B C d e f. There are notes. That's what we've learned to read so far. So in this course, you're not gonna learn to play an instrument, but you're gonna learn to read music and understand where the notes are. If on this course is really popular, then the following course will probably be something like learning to play the piano based on your knowledge already. So what we're gonna do is I'm just gonna test you for a little bit. Um, this is middle Ryan Smith sake. So you can't see what's this one? That's just allies G on. Now, this is where it gets complicated. Now, after G, it starts against so g on this one. That's cool. And I messed me, but one more that's bay. And then this can't be c d e minus one. Very good. So if you're using the flat Ohio software, when you want to practice what these notes so you can do that on that, If you got a keyboard instrument, you can also do it. I put some work for you in a worksheet, so you're gonna get pictures off notes, and you're gonna have to name what they are. This is just for you to practice what we're doing so that you definitely know everything about what the course is all about. For you. So just one more test. This is middle C Remember, so see this'll as an A yes on the first line of the music in the neighborhood. Right up E f g B c This one. That's a day right there on then this one. If you're not sure, you can start from Middlesex This'll g So if you practice up at home, you'll be able Thio, get the idea of what? These notes court. If you already knew that, when you can skip this lesson and go straight on to the next What? But that's a good start as normal. If you need to know anything, just ask. I'm always happy to help. I'll see you on the next lesson. Welcome for today. Thank you. 18. Lesson 17 Tones and Semitones: Hi and welcome back. This is the next lesson. It's all about tones and semi tones. Now, turns and semi tone is our if you like a step on the keyboard. So what we're gonna do is we're gonna talk about seven tons first with using the piano keyboard. So his middle c on if I go one semi. Tony is the closest note, too. That just up or down, actually. But we're gonna go. OK, so from there two, there is a semi tone or 1/2 step. Okay, so from any note, any note directly next to it is 1/2 note, half step or cemetery. So free. Go from D. Wayne. Go up a semi tone. We can go from D down on. That's also cemetery, so they know immediately next to the one that you're playing. So, for instance, it doesn't have to be a black notes or white note. What note? So black neck could be anything that's next to anything. So if we use these two, why no, see, yet this isn't a handsome enough, so it's to the note. Immediately. Teoh next door Say what you play as a semi turn or 1/2 step. Now there's another thing that we need to learn, which is a tone. So what tone is is to half steps or a tone, so two semi tones equals a term. So if we start on middle C again men, we can't 1/2 step and then 1/2 step again. There's are, too, So from there from C today is a town. Let's do another walk just to make sure we get from date way, we need to go to half steps 12 So from day to A, this is a time and also so let's do from a Let's try and find a tone from here. So we're gonna do 1/2 step, which is there and in another half step, which is that says f sharps r A f sharp is a tow to half steps or semi tone. Okay, so let's do a few more just to get used. It will start here. I'm gonna work out a 17 and we're gonna go a semi tone to the right, just that 1/2 step. Okay, This time we're going to start this new again. We're gonna do a tone. So let's do 2/2 step one to make sense. Yeah, it's not too bad, is it? Okay, that's done. Uh, this one is done. I'm gonna go tone from there. So play this. No. And then we're gonna move up to half steps. What to There's two. That's really good. I never gonna go a 17 from name Straightforward. Yes. Okay, let's start on this one. This time on the day, I'm going to do a tone so off what? There it is on. It starts on this one. We're going to go down to the left. One tone. So down, off, off. Very good. Very straightforward. So remember, a cemetery is 1/2 step. It goes to the next immediate note on the keyboard. Okay, on the toe is to half steps. So one will go from this one. We're gonna go toe so off, and then from this one, I Let's go, Senator. Okay, so that's tones and semi tones. We're gonna need to know this when we work on hair of scales, work and stuff like that. So terms and some returns is done for now. I hope you enjoyed the lesson as normal. If you've got any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I'll always help if I can. On. I'll see you on the next lesson. That's it for now. Thank you. 19. Lesson 18 Musical Alphabet: Hi, guys. Welcome to this next lesson. This next lesson is all about just a little bit of a test for you, so it's slightly interactive. So you're gonna need a pen or a pencil and a piece of paper if you've got it for a really good memory. Eso What we're going to do today is we're gonna spell some words with the music notes that we've already learned. So, for instance, on if we do this thes three notes here, three notes are e g and G. We all know what that smells, right. That spells egg. So that's the way it's gonna go. I'm gonna give you, let's say 15 seconds to work out each of these words. And at the end of the 15 seconds, you'll see the answer. It's so, for instance, only supply you with some notes about this and you're gonna work out the order of the notes . So work out with your f A C for the spaces for your every being. Boss drives fast like this for the lines and then work out each letter. I'm gonna give you how many letters it is. Well, then you're gonna work out what The word is you've got 15 seconds to do. So there's quite a few of these. I do have a sheet in front of me. So this is the most sought after piece paper right now. I'm gonna have to take these offers ago because I can't remember every word that I've written down. But that's okay, so let's get started. So we're gonna start with three letter words. Nice and easy. This is the 1st 1 you got. 15 seconds or their backs. Time's ticking. Time's ticking. Okay, I've marked off on the sheet. This means that you've got to give me an answer. This is it. Egg. That's right. Well done. OK, on to the next one. Straight away. No other three letter word. Very, very straightforward. Thes Three notes. Realtors, 15 seconds. Workout word. Here we go. Do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do do do do 15 seconds down Thing is the word back. Did you get well done? 33 less of words. Let's have another go. Another one. Here we go. This one five seconds left. Okay. Did you get it? B a D? That's bad. It's not bad But the word is bad. Think of because I'm bad. I'm beer. That was a country and western version of Mark Jackson. There. Sorry about three letter word. Here we go. Did you get it? Three. Let's is dead. Easy. Be Be doubly. Okay. Now we're gonna up the ante a little bit. We're gonna go up a notch, so we're going to fall. That is this time. Okay, 1st 1 is this. Go about five seconds to go. That's a what did you get? The word is aged or aged. Some people say G e d. Well, don't. Next one. Hey, we got four. Let's is I think this one's easy. I'm gonna give you less time Now. What did you get, babe? That's right. Here is world on. Let's have another couple of four letter words. Let me think. Let's do this. Okay. For lets us play. That's very good. Well, doing what did you get? Can five. There it is. C I f a couple more four. Let's Is, um, this one here. 10 seconds going about. There it is. That's dead. Well done. One more four letter were, uh, this wants to be did strike for No, it's for Alexis. We've got to get that in about three seconds. I think world on that's face. Okay, now we're gonna walk the anti again. We go up in the game. So with this one, we're gonna add another letter. Sorry about the paper rustling in the background. Just got over there because I can't remember five letters. Here we go. Give you a little bit longer. This time. Let's just look at, you know. Okay. That's the time we got caged for that one. Well, don't. We're gonna do another couple of five letter words. And this one is This is a different word. Five letters. Here we go. Doing well. Okay. Time's up. Nobody is decaf like coffee without caffeine. Okay, Five letter words to more we're gonna do. This is the one. No, about 10 seconds to go. Okay, time's up. What did you get the words faded? Yeah, that's good. OK, last five. Letter word. This thing. What do you think? I think this is strange spelling. This word is a letter that didn't really need to be in now. Okay, so what you get this is batch as in badge, don't what you call them in England called badges. They're called something else in other countries. I believe so. A pain. Maybe anyone. That was the word. Six letter words. Now, there's only a few of these, So this is going to be a little bit quicker. We're going to start with this one six letters. Here we go to the letters of the same as you can see. Okay, Time's up. Backed is the word if you got that. Well done. Uh, this one for a six letter word. Sorry. All times taking away. Okay, tons up. Beat it. Be a day 80 if you got that. Well done. One more six letter word. Anything. Okay, One more. Six last word. Here we go. Three letters the same in this one. Could be quickly to work out. Have you got it? Okay, turns up. This is gagged. G A g g e d. If he got, like, well done, we're gonna just do 17 Let's work just one several. It says here we go. Nearly that. Okay, time's up. That's it. Well done. This one is just checking this up. Baggage B A g A g If he got that well, done now in the download for this lesson. There's some stuff you can do this some more of these that you can sort of test yourself on also the other way around. So I'm gonna write some letters down in your homework to do, and you're gonna have to put the notes in for me, so I don't want to see it. I just want you to have a go. So if you got any problems, please send me a message and I'll get into the assumes. Otherwise, that's it for this lesson. I hope he did. Really well, I hope you scored yourself. Honestly. It waas 16 words in total. So if you scored 16 well done. Anything above four, I suppose, is good. If you didn't get for you may want to go back a little bit in the course. Just refresh him everywhere the spaces in the lines. But that's it for this lesson. See, on the next one 20. Lesson 19 Building a Major Scale: Hi, guys. This is me again. We're back again for another lesson. This lesson is entitled building a major scale. So on the last lesson, we spoke about semi tones and tones. So let's just go over that just once more. Just in case it's been a datu since you were on your instruments set. What we're gonna do it was going to start on middle C Just that I'm gonna go up one cemetery, remember? You have just 1/2 step on. Then we're gonna go up into the cemetery on Let's go, Tone. This time this is to half steps I want to in the semi tomb. So we got the idea of what we did in the last lessons. That's fine. What we're going to do today is we're going to find out about a major scale. Now. May just got sounds like everybody has heard one of those in their life. I'm sure if you're a single, you probably practicing in them. If you really plan instrument, it's in an integral part of learning. Excuse me. So, major scales. What are they? Why were they there? There Used as exercises in order to gain strength on technique with your fingers When your piano lessons specifically, you do a lot of these Open down, I'm gonna sing. And of course, you do them both hands together, opened down the keyboard, used the whole of the space and stuff like that. But today, or we're gonna do is we're gonna find out how they're actually put together so that you have the theory on the knowledge of how to work out a major scale. Okay, so first of all we're gonna do is going to start on sick. Now. We're working at a scale called C major. All major scales have the same theory. So in essence, you could start on any note and use the theory that I'm about to tell you and be able to apply that theory and work out any of the major scales. So, first of all, we're going to start with C major to see Major. There is no money that one that everybody starts. So we're going to start with the sea on. We've got a specific method, which I'm just gonna put on the page for you now in order to work out this major style. So we have tone tone, semi tone, tone, tone, tone, semi tone. Okay, so let's put that into action. I'll leave it on the screen for you so you can see what we do. Okay, so we're gonna start with C, and then we're gonna go a tone. So that's 2/2 steps. Let's go today. Now we're gonna do another time to half steps on an assembly step, a semi stone semi tone, which is one step, that's good. And then we're going to do a town two halfs and in another time to office again and then another tone and then a seven. So yeah, Okay, so that's give us all the notes we need for our scale. As you can see above, we got C D E F G A, B C, and in music that looks like that on there as well. So let's just make sure we understand one more time. So we're starting a middle C and we're going Oppa tone. So that's two steps. And then we're going Oppa's turn again. Two steps. I've been a cemetery and then a town two steps e in another town and another toe another semi time. There's our C major scale. Pretty straightforward. Takes a little bit of practice. So what we're gonna do is we're gonna put that into practice beginning. Just try on another note just to make sure. Let's let's go down to this g here. Okay? We're gonna start McGee, and we're going to go use the same theory as we did before. The tone tone, Sema tone, tone, tone, tone cemetery, Same theory. Okay, let's start on G on. We're going to go up a toe so to half steps and another tag to harp steps e in a semi tone and on its own. Two off steps in another, The time on another town. Here's the to half steps 12 on the Senate. Oh, can you hear that? It sounds like this. Okay. Very familiar sound, major scale. So let's say that once more with the G, this is a G major scale. So let's start. Let me go in a tone So to half steps to on another town on a semi tone and I want to I learned of the turn on another town to on the Senate to okay, so that way, before the attacks see Major on G major scales which have hopefully sort of giving you an idea of how Scouser put together. There's possibly gonna be additional course after this one, which will going to scouts in great detail and give you a lot more about the scales. But that's generally how they work. So if you were to start on any notes, say, for instance, you start on a D and use the same theory, you'd end up with this. He started on B e o got very familiar sound. Everyone that we've spoken about has got the same theory behind them. So what we need to do on your download cheek, I'm gonna give you, um, a C major and G Major and we're gonna write them out in music. So C two c g two geek on and see how we get on the rubbish tips in there to help you. But what I want you to remember when you think of a major scale and we need to be able to remember the theory, that's the most important part. So remember, toe tone, cemetery tone tone, tone cemetery. Okay, that's it for this lesson. That was all about major scales as normal if you have any questions? Feel free to ask our help as much as I can. I was so you on the next lesson. That's it for this one. Thank you. Try to find him a thumbs. Go. 21. Lesson 20 Flats and Sharps: Hello there. Welcome to this next lesson. This next lesson is all about the names off these notes. We know that we've got C D E F G ABC stuff like that, but we're always wondering. I expect about what we've talked about in the past about the semi tones and the tones and stuff like that. I don't know if you've heard this name before, but flats and Sharps. So this is what this class is all about. So flats and sharps had a flat since jobs work. Well, first of all, let's go over from our middle seat and just go to C D E F G A B C. Lovely did before. We know what those notes on their, you know, all the way up to this G, which comfortable McCumber there. But we don't need that one today, so C D E F G a B c. There are notes. Eso, for instance. I think the most common flat that I've ever heard is B flat. People will have heard that before. If not, it's very straightforward. We can talk in theory terms now. We're sort of experts, tones and cemetery. So, uh, let's find obey we know that being is just the one before. See? So let's see as big. Okay, now, if we want to make that B flat, have a look at this symbol. This little be like a tiny little bit is a flat symbol of Hezb e with the flat symbol next to it. We're gonna lover it. One cemetery. So we're going to go down to here now. This note is B flat. Okay, so what we've done is we've squashed it flat. So when you put the symbol, but by it goes from B to B flat. So you have squashed it, squash it down down to the left. That's we have to remember. Okay, So be flat. You'll notice that the flat symbol is actually before the note. So you don't say flat B, you say B flat. Okay, so let's do another one. Let's dio find a seat. Middle C This time, we're gonna do a sharp now in. Today's like social media and stuff like this. Most people, when you show them a sharp symbol cell. Yeah, that's hashtag. Yes, it's the same shape. But if you are a musician, it's most definitely know hashtag. It's a sharp symbol. Okay, So sharp symbol does the opposite of a flat symbol. So what we're going to do with a sharp symbol is we're gonna move up this way to the right movement. One cemeteries of 1/2 step. So if we did a C and then we turned it into a sharp with this sharp symbol on the screen that we're gonna go one semi tone to the right. This is a C shop. Now, that was amongst you that are thinking. Well, could that not be a D flat? In that case are correct. These are when it's a C sharp move one or a D move down one flat. That's called an end harmonic equivalent. Okay, but that's just too much information for now. So we're gonna work on some more flats and sharps. So this is an f Okay. What we're gonna do is we're gonna put this sharp symbol next to it, which makes the f sharp. So that goes up to the right one semi tone f sharp. Very good. Okay, so this one is a and we're gonna flatten it. So remember when you flatten stuff, you squash it, squash it down, down is to the left. E flat. That's very good. Now we're gonna pick, Let's have a G. We're gonna make it g flat. So we're gonna flatten it down to the left G flat. This one is also another note. So let's work out from there. Here, this is an F. If I get what, 17 10 from a What's that same sound. But we're changing the name. That's an f sharp. Okay, so that's fine. I Let's find I I'm going to do in a flat. So we go down one to the left, we're gonna flatten it, squash it, Are you flat? And they were gonna find a sharp. So here's I sharp remember going up one to the right one cemetery not said very good. Um de flats these date and here's D flat. Okay, these are sort of the very simple forms off sharps and flats. There are others, but we're starting easy. So what we need to do is have a look at your sheet that's attached to this particular class . It's gonna have stuff in about flats and sharps. What is going to do is going to tell you all about where these are what they do and stuff like that, but also give you some stuff to be able. Teoh. Test yourself and, you know, answer the questions about what the notes are so that you get used to what to do. You remember that a sharp is always what, one semi tone to the right, so it's sharp or like a point I always think of it. Onda Flat is down one to the left, so we're squashing it down to the left. Also, when you see a flat or a sharp or any other kind of symbol like that on a new music you that the theoretical term for that is an accidental, so it's not accidentally there. But the name of it is an accidental, which means that you know there's a if it's an accidental next to an F, and it's a sharp symbol, we're gonna go one to the right. However, if it's an accidental next to a E on, it's a flat symbol, you're gonna go down one to the left. So remember when you look at your music, the symbol always comes first, then the note after, but so you wouldn't say flat e u se e flat. You wouldn't say sharp F you'd say F shop. I hope that's clear. If there's anything that you didn't understand in that police, feel free to ask. As normal, I'm more than happy to help you. If I can please have a look at the sort of resources document to go with this and fill in some of the stuff there, you'll find it helps you to learn quicker if you feel in them the questions on the sort of resources pages. So that's it for this lesson. Thanks again. Here's my thumbs. I'll see you on the next one. 22. Lesson 21 7 Second Challenge: our guys. Welcome to this next lesson. This lesson is called seven Second Challenge. The reason for that is simple. I'm gonna give you seven seconds each time toe. Either name a note or tell me how long a note. Last four. That's it. Simple concept. So, for instance, this Now here. How many Bates? Seven seconds will pass. You'll tell me the answer will come up on the screen and so on and so on. So in this game, we're also going to do shops were going to do flats were going to do types of notes. Like how many beaches This? No, we're going to do a group of no values added together. You have to tell me how many beats that whole thing is worth. So, Jerry, it started. You don, right? We were OK, so we're gonna start with number 17 seconds on the clock. On your mark. Get set. Go this wrong? What? Notice this. That's the seven seconds. That's enough. Well done. This note. I see this note. Destiny, This nose could just seeing these in the last lesson. Good. This one. Well, don't be flat. This one. That's to see this one That's an F E flat. This work G flat. So let's have a breather for a second to have done some flats. We don't some sharp take it. And on You didn't write. You understand it. All this music's that I'm sure you are. If you're not, you can always rewind and another girl even listen to Hanson's if you really need to. Okay, Number 10 10. Is this one balance at the shop while doing? If he got it, this one and that was at this one. That's just say should be easy, that one. This one. Think of the lines G. This one got flat. That's right D flat world on this one And thats a c on the last one off. What is it? Cause job boy. Very good. If you got f sharp, you did really well. Now we did 16 questions that you could have written them down on a piece paper if you wanted to. It's alright just to shatter whatever device you're watching this on. That's also fun just to get you to recognize notes a little bit quicker. So we've got seven seconds each time, so we're going to do that's more chest weakened, but a light that were gonna do seven second challenge on how many beats. So, for instance, let's just have a warm This note is having every seven seconds that would make orbits. Okay, let's start that question. Number one, This one. How many Bates? That's right. One beat. Well done. This one. Easy to bits. This one we've already don't. Anyway, it's four. Beat six semi breathe. OK, so I'm gonna put some groups of notes together and you're gonna tell me the total of those notes put together. So, for instance, if we had this'll two semi briefs, eight semi brief is worth four beats each total them up to together. That's eight beats. You can get the idea. All right, here's the 1st 1 Have a look. Seven seconds. Very good. So that was three minimums. Three to beat. Notes. Had it together. Six plates. OK, next one. Very good to semi breathes tip. Semi Braves. Four beats each. Two of them added together. That's eight beats This one. Very good. Eight Cuevas acquired was worth half of beats. We could go eight of them if you put them together. That's four beats. Have you got all that. Well, don't you doing well? This one little bit different. Very good. So you've got to cuevas then a minute, then to Cuevas. That totals four bits. If you got that right, give yourself a lab. Do you have a high? Follow you? Okay, Last one. This one is a little bit longer. Okay, so we've got a Sami brief, then four crotch. It's a semi breathes worth four beats on the crotch. It's worth one each. Put those together. You get eight beats. How did you do? I hope you did. Well, this is a good way to you. Try and test your music knowledge. The stuff that you've learned with me on this course can be done like this. You can write some notes down on a sheet of manuscript. You can give yourself seven seconds to name. You could do that kind of stuff in. See a gun. Do it. Used as a fun exercise, it's good to do anything to do with really. Music needs practice to get faster. The fact the more you do it, the faster you get Some Was anything else? OK, I hope you enjoyed the test. That's the end of this lesson moving onto the next one cc 23. Lesson 22 Reading It: - guys , it's May. Hello there. Welcome. This is Ah, lesson called reading it. So as you've seen there, that first piece of music, there is just something that I just quickly put together on This piece of music is just made up just for the purposes of getting you to actually read it. So let's have a look over the music here at their beginning. We've got this sign here, which we know is the trouble Cliff on. We've also got on the 44 which is the time signature disease, Common time four Project beats to the bar. So let's go through slowly on this Peter Music. We've got a couple of pieces to play through, but let's go through and name the notes together. So we've got this one, which was middle C and then we have D then the first line. So every green busters fastest is eight, and then we have an F, which is the first space. If you remember F A. C E and then just below the line, that's a D on then E, this is the bottom line again. This is tied up in room. When we did the tires on a couple of lessons ago. Eso in total. That's four and four tied together. That's a night beat note. Excuse me. Then we've got to see again on then the d the e the f they d and the c on Did it goes on through like that. But what we're going to do, first of all, is I'm gonna play the music back to you right now on. I'm gonna collapse with the rhythm first of all so that you can listen to it on the second time A player I want you to clap along So let's Troy Hey, the girl conch up the first necklace. Doesn't count is in for some reason. T o thio Thio. Okay, so that's an example of what we're gonna do. I do have a very creaky chair today, so I apologize about that. We can ever go, so get ready. 123 234 Beats do. 34 23412344 230 Last line Tuesday for the award. Duthie for Excellent. That's really good. Okay, so, um right, we're gonna add into that the note names, so let's have a look. What? We're doing? Here we go. So now a. So you can see every one of the notes as this pitch from there. So we'll read them out together. Let's have a go. C D E F D C D e a f D c f c c g f e d e f D c Okay, that's really good. Let's have one more girl that show we just to make sure. So what we're doing We're actually reading the note names out at the time of the rhythm. So we're absolutely saying that if you want to sing, you can do that as you can guess by resist lessons. I'm not very good at seeing it. I will have a go 50 music. I don't mind. Okay, so after four, let's start with a C note. 1234 e. I need to hold on for a beats and then see scene D E f. D. Seen hold on fragments thingy. Jean f the E f. T. Seen. And while those eight notes there's a being that was take some breathing. Okay, so you get the idea. That's what we're gonna do. We've done it without the pitch standoff on We've also put the pitch names on afterwards to give you something to practice too. These two, uh, files on the other files to go along with this will be in a download section so you can practice this as well. So let's have a look at another one. Okay, this is the second score. So what we're going to do on this is we're gonna use the pitch name straight away. Obviously, you'd be able to work them out from what we've done in the past week on new flats. This is a double bar line at the end to say that it's finished S O B flat on a You see, we don't all these notes before. So what we're gonna do is we're gonna cut the rhythm first of all, so have a listen. Very good. I'd like you to have a go at this, if you can as well, please. Let's staffed for 1234 You can smile if you like. It's OK. Very good. Okay. This time we're gonna say the note names, so let's just take that back to the beginning. So what we're gonna do, We gonna do them in times we're going to go about this. I'll give you an example first. F g a B flat D e f g e f g i f c b flat c b flat a g c D e f. Okay, so it's your turn this time. Let's have a try. Here we go. 123 Go C pe c p a g e Just a fun. Let's try that again. 123 Go Get your best singing voice out That's it. On seeing be a sing a g e d e isn't exciting. We're actually reading our first pieces of music, so let's do another one while we can. Okay, this one is another piece again. I just made up for you so we can do the course. Let's have a listen to first of all. Okay, so we're gonna try and clap that after 41234 Okay, you'll notice without this rhythmic pattern starting from here, I'm going through to here, repeats. So you've got a 1,000,000 on then a minimum here than across you and a Cratchit Duke waivers. Duke waivers. So it's the same pattern twice. So let's get clapping and do that again. Let's do it between us. Just a second. Here. We got 41234 Except this time I'm going to say the notes so I'll give you a demonstration and you can never goes Drafted. G B g dp a and Shop B g B g B d b e f sharp. Wow, that's not so easy. So it's a bit like a tongue twister, but so I'll never go. Don't worry if you don't get it first time we try again after on 234 g b g b d b A as shop G B g b Debate de at shop Okay, let's do it again. Just to make sure for 1234 g b g b d b de and Shaw Cheap g a b g b dp A shop she well done . That's really good. So you can see in this third score that we did that We've got trouble Cliff again and we got our time signature. We've also got many names. Crutch. It's quivers on a Sharps double bar lines at the end there, so lots of things going on there. So just to remind you this is a minimum of two beats. This is a crotchety. This is one beat these acquired disease 1/2 a bit, so if you add them all up, you get four in that bar than a line. Hence the four for that to millions to beat each on an assembly. Breathe so you get the idea. So without reading, you can use music like this and try and clap along. There'll be these three examples and a couple more in the documentation to go along with course so you can try them out by the little videos there and just see how you get on. Have a little practice. Obviously, it's better to read the notes without these, namely because music generally doesn't have those. But this was just for a demonstration, so we were able to do it quickly today. However, if you do it without the note names in practice, then your reading becomes a lot quicker and it becomes easy. So I hope that helped you with your reading. I enjoyed teaching you this lesson on Look forward to speaking to you and seeing you on the next one. So that's it for this one. Thanks very much. See on the next one 24. Lesson 23 The Last Review: Hello. Welcome to this next lesson. This next lesson is called The Full Review. So we're going to go over the stuff that we've done throughout the course just to remind you of all the things that if you've got to this stage in the course you already know. So we started off with crutches, crutches for one, beaten up scratch. It's looked like this. You remember those. Then you would be lots of clapping with those. We've done minimums which are too big notes like this. Two bit notes called me names. They also called half notes. We did Sami Brady's four bit nuts. Four Beat notes. We missed out the one in the middle doing with the three big notes. We did that later on with Cuevas Cuevas were not crisps. Drivers were half beat notes on. We did dotted minimums. Darted minimums were three beats. We've done dotted crotch. It's 1.5 beats. We've been all sorts of different notes. We looked at trouble. Cliffs Well, time signatures. We did 44 We did 34 We did common time. We learned that 44 means four crutches beats per bar. We looked at bar lines. We looked at double bar lines. We looked at the state of the five lines. We looked at what each loan waas Every green bus drives fast on. We looked at a lot of space. Is F A, C and E. We also looked at the low see the middle C on the day. So we've learned all of those. We did some reading of music. We did some clapping. We clapped along to some music. We read the notes that along to some music, we've done all sorts of stuff. We've looked at the piano. We found out whether notes are on the piano. We've looked at my fingers, watch them play as we played the music. We've done all sorts of things that way. We've covered in such a short amount of time. So we've done really, really well. All of that stuff has been led on this course, and it's been done by you. So if you've got this far, well done. That's the end of this lesson. See you in the next 25. Lesson 24 Thank you: So, my friends, we have come to the end of the course. This is the final video. I am so impressed that you got this part.
