The bold and opaque look off crashes something which makes me attracted to this medium. If you use a pick, you get a nice big matte finish on. If you water it down, you get something some lotto water clothes and it is not just about the latte finish on a week. Look, there are many more recently Hogwash. Hello, everyone. My foot journeyman appeal on Absolut art enthusiast currently residing in Dubai and orginally from India. Today I'm gonna take you through the medium quash and we'll be painting too beautiful and glowing beach landscapes. The scores is designed for a beginner, so you don't need to worry. If you don't have any prior knowledge of the meeting quash, I will be taking you through each and every material. Every technique on every other little detail. You need to know to paint a question asking This is a quick 30 minutes class on. If you have a little time to invest, you'll be able to paint two beautiful glowing beach landscapes. This course is going to be a good guy toe. Everyone who was looking forward to try quash Everything is explained in real time so that you can follow along and paint with me. All right, without anymore, do let's start with the first listen.
2. Gouache overview: you might be already familiar with the properties of Quash. I'm not making it longer. I will quickly give you an introduction about Quash Gua. She's an opaque medium once dried tastic, very clean matte finish That is one main reason by many artists who does illustration. Choose to work with squash to get a lighter tone off the color. You won't be adding water. You will be adding wide quash into it. So this is the main difference between particular and quash, and this means other than any other color, you will need an extra tube a wide quash. So it is always a great idea to get a big portal are a big tube of white quash. I have this separate bottle of ID quashed by royal talents, which I normally use. I tried to reduce the usage of the tube, which comes in the set so that it stays in the set on. I won't finish it quickly. Goulash is a medium which is something in between watercolor and acrylic. If you add more water into quash, it will act more like watercolor on it will lose its capacity. It is a water based medium, and for all these reasons, it is called Ask opaque cortical, another mean and bandage of working with quashes that dries up very quickly, compared toa watercolor and click, which means you can go with multiple layers in a very less time. On this is one main reason why it is a great choice for plain air painting as it dries up pretty quickly and you can save a lot of drying. Time Watch is highly pigmented on when it drives. It leaves a very chalky Matt look as it is very opaque. You can cover up your mistakes by going one more layer on top of the base layer. This means you can work with so many layers. You can go light over dark or dark over light. Either way, it's possible that the wash and that's a quick overview about quash.
3. Materials you'll need: Let's have a quick look at the materials you will need to paint along, and it's absolutely okay not to have the exact same material that I'm using here. You can go with any kind of art supply that have card with this kind of similar, even the brandis and matter. So don't trust too much about art supplies. Try and get some associate, which I'll be using here to get a similar result. All right, let's talk about the color first. For tourist class, I will be using this 24 color gwar set by artists. It is not 100% artist. Great quality Garsh color. It kind of stays between the student grade on artistry, but I kind of loud the set for the right of colors they have. And for the price they offer. I have another set of guard from Winsor and Newton, which is much, much, much more expensive than the artistic watch. The quality of the colors are more or less similar, so I haven't really faced a problem with our TSA. Gosh, they have a nice, creamy consistency, and they're well pigmented. Feel free to go with any brand of Gar study hard court. If you don't have glass, you can also use poster colors on def. You are a beginner who was looking to invest on a basic GWAR set, I would say artists as a great choice. Now let's have a look at the kind of paper that you will need. I will be using my can't on watercolor paper, which is 1 40 l B and this is 25% carton on for the same reason that doesn't have a lot of texture. If you're going with cold press article of people, make sure your paper doesn't have a lot of texture. If you have hard pressed particular people, the best is to go with that because it doesn't have much grains or texture, it is quite flat, and that makes it quite easy to blend the colors. We'll be doing two different paintings, and this is the size I'll be walking on. It is just 10 by 12.5 centimeters, roughly a postcard size feel free to go with any size that you prefer. Now I will be using a masking tape to mask all the four sides to get a clean edge at a normal stationary about masking tape. All right now, these are the only two bridges that I will be using throughout the entire class on a size number eight flat shadow brush on the other one. A society's number four round brush to add in the tiny details. Gorgeous and recoil. Any specific set of brushes you can use your water Globe rushes for your quash projects. Aspirin. Get a medium sized flat brush and round brush. We'll just need those two brushes to make circle owes. You will need a pallet. I will be using this white ceramic plate. I always prefer using ceramic pallets over plastic pallets just because it is very easy to clean, and also it doesn't stain the palate. There is no problem in using a plastic pallet. It has just started as much easier to work on a ceramic palette. Maybe you could just grab a plate from your kitchen and turn it into your palate. If your pilot is already filled with watercolor hand, you don't want to wash it off. Just go crab or this possible plate on. That also works great asset palette. Now you will need a jar of water to rinse off the pain from your brush. You can either keep two jars or you need to keep changing your water very often. Next year will lead some people trouble. You can also use according cloth. This is just a wipe off the excess pain from your brush on last but not the least. You will need a pencil. We will have toe our little sketches. Then you will need an eraser on. That's it. These are the only materials you will need to paint along with me. Now quickly go grab all the materials and join me in the next section where I will be taking you through some tips and tricks before we move on to over main projects.
4. Quick tips before we start: Before we begin, let me share a few quick tips n tricks with you all, which will help you as we progress. Always trying new Spain. But it's freshly squeezed out of the tube, even though gosh react rates where new ad in water. The kind of consistency you get with the freshly squeezed paint on reactively to pain the slightly different I have always felt. The paint looks more fresh and opaque when Inco, with freshly squeeze paint compared to the dry paint registry activated with water glass, gives the best result of a non diluted. When you add water, Gosh loses its capacity and will start to look more like watercolor. But sometimes it can be really difficult to blend the color. When you're going with the paint, which is directly squeezed out of the tube, you can see here I have got rough. Just so what you can do at those cases are at a drop of water to your pain. In order to get a smoother finish, you can see just a drop of water added a lot of difference. The way my pain this active, I'm not getting those rough edges. My pain is looking very even and smooth right now. So whenever you feel like you're painters to dry and you are not able to get US motor blend , go ahead and add a drop of water. Gosh is known for the opaque and Matt look on also for the multiple layers, which you can apply without disturbing the base layers. When you're going with multiple layers, it is always a great idea to wait for the base layer to try. You may not get the desired result if you really apply your paint before the base layer tries. I have painted a patch of ultra marine blue here. Now let's see how it would look if I apply some details onto this when it is wet and when it does try so here I'm applying the white details on a wet base layer and you can see the kind off color that I'm getting here. It's not too opaque on. This is the main drawback. The top layer may not look big if you're applying it on a wet base layer, and also sometimes the pain might come off leaving an ugly mark. Now my background has dried on. I'm gonna repeat the same thing. You can see the lines that I'm adding now are looking more Orpik. I've ended with the same pain, the same consistency. The only difference is the backbone has dried on. You can see the lines that I'm applying. This really opaque, even though Watch doesn't require any specific set of brushes at its best ago. But your synthetic hair brushes, which you normally use for your watercolor projects. I don't recommend using natural hair brushes as it isn't that easy to blend the clothes using a natural hair brush and sometimes depending on the bristles at my can leave brush hair marks to take out does in the daycare brooches, which you thought as use less than you tried your watercolor techniques. They might work perfect for your gosh. So go give them a try but quash before discarding you. See, a good quality paper has a lot of impact. This doesn't mean you need to go with an expensive artist. Great paper, unlike watercolor glasses, a lot more forgiving medium. When it comes to paper and brush, the only thing you need to consider is the thickness and the texture of the paper. The paper sample you see here as 100% court on watercolor paper, which has a lot off texture on, you can see I'm not able to blend the color much easily. As my pain is getting trapped in those rough grains and textures, it isn't that easy toe get a smoother blend in this paper, Gosh works the best on hard pressed paper, which doesn't have much textures. Sickness is also a great factor, as we are going with thick layers off paint. The normal paper was just less than 200. GSM will tend to bend and Michael with the first layer itself, so it is always best to go but a thick paper, which is minimum 200 GSM. So there might be paper which you kept aside because it didn't work well that you're watercolor. It is time to take those sheets out and give it a try with quash. You never know. They might work perfect for your gosh paintings, so I think that was quite enough for us to get started with Quash. As to progress, you will learn quite a lot of things about gosh now, keeping all the steps and tricks in mind. Let's start with our first class project
5. Painting 1: all tried First we're going to try a Hawaiian bitsy I have already taped on my paper. But before we start with a project, I'm gonna show you a Grady and Wash exercise which we will be using quite a lot. And both off other paintings. This is the one and only technique you will need to know. I have my palette here. The two shades that I'm gonna go with as white and cerulean blue Now, using these two shades I'm gonna try and radiant wash You can go with any blue that you have got You don't really need to be using a certainly in blue I will be using this blue for the sky on I will be making a lighter using white Now I'm using my flat shade of brush Let's try and create a greedy in wash are certainly in blue and white I'm going with cerulean blue first Now I'm gonna apply the paint onto the paper I just added a line with my flat brush If you're playing the stool tick you can just to pee Oppression A little of water just a teeny tiny drop Now make your pain will lose you can see the paint is much more small toe. Now, this is exactly what I explained earlier. Just a drop of water can bring a lot of difference to the way you paint Act. But be careful not to add a lot of water. Just a drop of water us all you need. So we applied and even wash of cerulean blue. Now I'm gonna light in the shell and take it down To get a lighter tone off the color, you should be adding bite. Quash. Mix that with blue. Get a lighter tone off blue Now applied that onto the remaining media. Take your brush in a back and forth movement. You should be only taking your brush in a horizontal manner. Otherwise you will have rough patches in between. You won't have a clean, radiant wash, so just take your brush in a back and forth movement and horizontal lines. I'm using a medium size flood ridge because of people. Size is quite small, so you have to change your brush size according to the size of the people. If you're going with a bigger sized paper, you should be using ah bigger size flood rush to get a smooth, radiant wash. Now I'm taking my pain from down towards up on trying to blend that together with the cerulean blue. So you need to do this couple of times until you're happy with the radiant. You can book from top to bottom and also from bottom to top. Keep repeating the exercise until you get a smooth, radiant wash. Now I'm gonna make the color even more lighter By going with white, I'm repeating the same exercise. I'm taking my brush in a back and forth movement on trying to plan the lighter tone to the medium tone way have our small Grady in wash of certainly in blue and white. This is the only technique you will need to follow the entire painting. This is my reference photograph. I'm trying to create something similar to this. We'll have a cloudy sky on. We'll have a beat at the bottom on. We'll have nice mountains in the middle, so I'm gonna start by my pencils Kitsch. All I'm adding was just a line does my horizon line. You don't need to add the mountain as we can come up with a different layer on top of the sky Now I'm gonna add our Grady and wash of surly and blue and white onto the sky just like how we practiced earlier I'm going with the same shades Take your brush in a back and forth movement on Add the paint and horizontal manner You can see the way I'm taking my brush If you paint us to dry and you're finding it difficult to blend, you can add a drop of water No, I'm going to switch to white and I'm making the remaining off the sky more lighter. Just blend the close together they're they're meeting and then keep taking your oppression of back and forth. Movement on bond Make a smooth, clearly in wash. Now let's wait for the sky to dry. Meanwhile, let's pain the water. Amusing Prussian blue angered in green. I'm gonna mix these two close together to get a nice bluish green. Makes them well and this is the kind of color that I will be working with. I'm gonna add that over the horizon line. Now, as I come down, I'll be making the color more lighter. Only this portion I'll be making a darker again. I'm going with the Grady and wash. It is just at this time the colors are different. So this time it's a greenish blue on guy, really are required to make the color lighter as I come down, as we did earlier. I'm just taking my brush in a back and forth movement on applying the paint in a horizontal manner. All right, our water is nearly done. Will be adding details on to that later. The next task is to add clouds onto the sky. I'm switching to my round brush on. I'm taking white quash paint on my brush. Now all you need to do was just at the white paint onto the sky and create a cloudy pattern . Ah, Bagram has completely dried, so you just need to decide on how we want the clouds. How big or small you want them on. Also, very. You want them now, keep tapping the white paint onto the background and grade these kind of patterns. Now I'm going to add some smaller clouds on the left side just by adding some dry patterns . I'm not really creating any shape. I'm just having my brush on the sky. You can see the kind of vital have court here Now, on to the other cloud Aspell. I'm gonna create this kind of rough and dry patches, especially onto the outer shape off the cloud, so that this will march into the sky. To get the right kind of dry patterns, you should be taking very little paint on your brush. And also your pain shouldn't be watering. If you feel like there's a lot of pain, Tony, brush on it is too watery. All you can do is just grab your brush on A People travel multiple times to remove the excess water and paint. I will quickly add a few more cloud patterns in a very random manner on, but that will be done with the sky. I'm just going to make the cloud on the right side a bit more brighter by adding some of why we're here. All right, so of a sky is done. Now let's move to the water and add more details on to that. It is looking quite flat right now, so I'm gonna take white Pugwash paint and using my round brush. I'm gonna add some delicate lines onto the bottom part. I'm not disturbing the top portion. I'll be only adding white lines onto the bottom. I'm taking wide quash on my drone brush. I'm mixing that with a little of the green. Be created earlier to get a muted toe. I don't want to buy to be too bold and bright. Now, with that lighter tone, you just need to add lines at the bottom. Very thin and delicate lines. It shouldn't be too possible. Are you lines in a similar manner? You just need to add them till the middle of that water. You shouldn't be peaking back to the top, and that's it. Our water is also done. Now. The only thing left is the mountain to paint the mountain. I'm going with the same greenish blue we created earlier by mixing Prussian blue and green green on also adding a tent of black toe that to get a Darko tune. This is the kind of color that I'm using for the mountain. We want a deep greenish blue, so if you have a greenish blue already in your said, you just need to mix a little of black to that to get a darker tone off that color. Now this is the reference photograph. If you want to follow the exact same pattern of the mountain, you haven't photo crab. You could do that. All you can go with any other kind of pattern that you want to follow. I'm gonna roughly follow the same shape. Start by adding an outline. Then you can fill up that entire area and the color we created. You can see how we're adding a new layer without disturbing the base layers. To get the best results, you will need to wait for the base layers to dry. Otherwise, the paint on the base layer can come off and create a very ugly patch. So wait for the layers to drive. When you're going with multiple use, you can see how old painting is truly getting complete. When we're adding the mountain, it has a nice contrast between the sky and the water. I'm really loving the way this painting is progressing, especially the color of the water but radiant wash on the mountain and the cloudy sky. Everything is looking so good. Now I'm gonna take a little of it in green. Andi, I'm just dropping that onto the mountain just to nobody random manner to add more texture onto the mountain because we've ended with the flat wash. Once we add in this green tones, it will add a lot of character to the mountain on. Give it a realistic look. Andi, that's it. We're done with double first painting. Let's remove the masking tape. Now. Before you remove your masking tape, you'll have to wait for your entire painting to try completely. Otherwise the paper can come off. So wait for sometime until your paintings completely tried, then removed the masking tape. This way you will get clean edges. One more side is left on. Dhere is a closer look off about how Ryan beat scene. I hope you all enjoy art painting this one. We have one more to go and I'll see you there.
6. Painting 2: for the first painting be bending with their daylight beat scene. Now let's try something in night. We'll be just turning the colors and to a much more taco tone than the first fund. All right, let's give it a try. I'm going with the same size of paper, and I have already taped it down to the base. Now I'm adding the horizon line. That's the only pencils get you need to add. We will be adding the DACA tones on top off it later, so you don't need to add the sketch for the sky. I'm going with Prussian blue and cerulean blue, and using these to close, I'm adding a Grady and wash just like how we did earlier. So as I mentioned earlier, if you know how to do our proper grading washes colors, that is the only thing you need to know will be able to create a beautiful painting by just knowing that one technique as you're painting the night sky, your clothes need to be a little more Darko than olio. I'm going with the doctor gone off Prussian blue, and as I come down I will switch to Cerulean Blue. We tried this grading wash exercise. Earlier, we tried on a scrap, pissed off people. Then we tried the same technique for about previous painting. We did the sky and also the water, using this creating wash as the same technique that I'm following cure. It has just had. The colors are different. Right now. I'm using two different colors. Ali of eventing with the Darko tone off, certainly in blue on, also the added. Why to make the color lighter now as enriching the rise in line. I'm taking a little of white, and I'm making the color lighter just over this line. So which will be the closer using to get a smooth and evenly blended grating boards, you just need to take your brush in a back and forth movement and a horizontal manner. You shouldn't be mixing different kind of strokes. Just take your brush in a horizontal manner and keep repeating it until you get a smooth, radiant wash. If you paint us to dry, you can to peer pressure in a little water to make it little lose, which will help in the blending process. All right, ask I is done now, using the same great unwashed technique. I'm gonna paint the water at the bottom. I'll be using solutions, which we used for about previous painting. I'll be mixing Prussian blue and green green to get a bluish green, just like how we did here. But this time I'm going to flip the colors, which means I'll be making the top area later on. As I come down, I'll be making a docker something like this, because I'll be adding a moon and the top portion will be let by the moonlight. There will be so much off white reflection all that over the horizon line, so we'll be making the top ocean lighter on as become down will be making the color darker . So my expression blue and buried in green and get a nice bluish green. I'm starting from bottom and applying the doctor tone with a boredom part. Now, as I grow up, I will be making the color lighter by adding white to create a smoothly blended, grating voice. You can either book from top to bottom or from bottom to top. You can go in either direction, but then remember to take your brush in horizontal manner. You should be only adding horizontal strokes on. You shouldn't be starting your pain by adding from somebody in the middle. You need to have an idea in your mind how you want the colors to be you better You want it lighter as you proved us down or you want it darker as you protest down. So according to that, keep playing your paint and take your brush and back and forth movement and in horizontal matter under you're satisfied with the grading wash. Now I'm making the color lighter by white. So with a horizon line, I will make it even more lighter. All I did was I mixed Prussian blue and buried in green to get a nice greenish blue or her blowers green until he want to call it Andi I added a dock. O'Donnell died or with the bottom on as a progress towards the horizon line, I made the color lighter by adding white wash. All right, so let me quickly finish this. - I want to make the Serie a little more light. Oh asked. This is where the moonlight will be reflecting on the water. I'm taking a little more white and I'm making just that horizon line area little more lighter just over this line. Now I'm going to switch to my down brush and I'm gonna splatter some stars on the sky. This is my most favorite part of creating any night sky painting at a few drops of water and your white quash on turned that into a looser consistency. Also cover the bottom water because we don't want any stars to be falling in the water. Once you get the consistency, right, just tap on your brush on, create this kind of dinos plateaus you can stop with whenever you feel like you have God in a four stars. Now, using the same brush, I'm gonna add few Biko stars in a very random manner. Just pick some random places on ad because Charles Lecter's this will make the sky look more interesting when you have those Chinese plateaus and in between when you have these big ones. All right, I think I have Gardiner off stars in there. Now I'm gonna add a tiny moon over here. Just a white soco go with a little of ticker consistency and agonize could be quite so cool . Just a tiny one like those you shouldn't be adding a huge moon. It shouldn't go out of proportion. All right, so that looks perfect to me. Now I'm gonna add the reflection of the more This is where I will be adding the reflection just underneath the move. And he's kind of clients in the water. You can go with bolder lines when you're close to the horizon. Line on as you come down, make your lines very thin and delicate. Make sure you're adding the reflection right underneath the moon. You could see how I'm adding that I don't know some of these lines you can take out extend them outward, but in a very thin and delicate manner. And as you come down, make your lines little lighter. We just need that bold right over the top has become down. The lines can be very thin and delicate. Also, the color can be lighter. You can see how beautiful that moon on reflection is looking all we need to do with our lines like this using wide quash. Now I'm gonna add some mountains in the background Amusing black wash on onto the horizon line. I'm adding few tiny mountains. These mountains are very far from you, so the size shouldn't be topic. We'll be adding bigger ones in the foreground. So to get the proportion ride, you should be adding very tiny wants the background, have allowed one more onto the left side. You can see how beautiful our paintings looking already the black Mountains are adding a lot off character on contrast to our painted, especially it is going well with the light blue water at the bottom. All right, so this is where we have read so far. Now I'm gonna add fuel bigger mountains onto the left side on also, I will be adding food rock at random places for you on to the right side and for you onto the left side Asper, just to make the compulsion look more nicer. So go with any kind of pattern and composition for your mountains and rock are the outline first, then full of the anti oh shape with black wash will be adding more details on to it later. The first opposed to fill up that shape using black quash. Feel free to go with any kind of composition you want. I will be only adding this huge rocks onto the left side. Then I've lad, few tiny ones and random areas. - All right, so we have all the rocks and place. The next task is to add some highlights onto these to make it look more realistic to add the highlights. I'm using wide quash and I'm adding Tinto white onto the top, Pushing off all these rocks just a little is enough. Don't have too much of white. Don't worry about that, Messi. Look, Once you have added white highlights, clean your brush. Now we're trying to blend his bite into the background. He can dip your brush in a little of black. This will make the blending easier. Now keep plenty. Go one by one and try to blend that white into the black background. We are nearly done. We are one more big croc on the left side on. But that will be done. Oh, okay. So looks like that task. It's also time now. The only task to meaning is to add reflection off all these rock into the water to add reflection on again going. But that bluish green be created earlier. But this time I'm going with a bit more taco tune and I'm gonna add lines right underneath all these drugs, something similar to the one we created here. Just act in and delicate lines like thes. It's already easy step, but this is going to add a lot of realistic look to your painting. So which will be the color you have at the border? Go with a bit more darker tone off the same color, then add lines like this when you're adding the lines, make sure you're not touching two lines together. They should be a little off gap where the bathroom color will be the super. This will make it look more realistic now, adding reflection off these mountains in the background. Passport. Just a few lines right underneath the border can go with a lighter tone over here Now. Adam Brandon lines what it thin and delicate. Once on with thought. We are done with our second painting. Let me quickly removed the masking tape, as I mentioned earlier. Always remove your masking tape at an ankle on wait for your painting to dry completely. I'm really happy with the way the spending turned out, especially the reflection of the more and the colors were used for the water. I'm really allowing it on. Here is a closer look. You can see the colors, the reflection, the sky. Everything's looking so pretty. I hope you all enjoy painting this beautiful night scene with me.
7. Final thoughts: Hello, everyone. We made it to the end. I hope you all enjoyed painting with me. If you haven't tried the paintings yet to give them a try, I'm very sure you're going to allow it By using the same techniques and changing the colors a little bit. You can create beautiful paintings for this painting. Maybe you can add ashore on may be at a board on to make it more detailed on this one. I tried a similar landscape with a Papuan through competition. You could try the Sasko. So just by tweaking the color and the subjects a little bit, you can create beautiful quash being dates.
