1. Intro: Hello and welcome to this online course on basic digital illustration with midi bank paid. My name is T0 and I'm an artist and graphic designer. So I have been using tablets and Penny slays to create odd full, almost more than a decade. So in this cause, I'm gonna teach you how to use midi bang on a tablet to create digital illustrations. Many bang is a free drawing app that's available on Android and iPad tablets. It's also available on desktop, on Windows and Mac OS. However, for this course, we will focus on using media bang paint on a tablet, most specifically, and Android tablet. Now, if you are using an iPad, you can follow along as well, just add the user interface may look a bit different. So in this course, I'm going to teach you how to create a basic line art illustration, something like this. We're not going to draw some thing complicated. We're just going to draw a very simple toy truck just to get you familiar with the user interface. Just to show you the tools that are available. Basically just to show you what's possible with digital illustration using this app. So I'm going to show you how to draw the line OD. I'm going to show you how to color, how to add shadows, how to add textures, and finally, how to save your art in a format that you can share online on your social media web pages, all on your own blog to follow along with this cause all you have to do is to download the free app from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store, and also download the reference photo off the toy that I have provided. All right, see you in the first lesson. 2. Tools you need: Hello and welcome to the first lesson. So in this lesson I'm going to tell you what's needed in order to follow along with the tutorial. For our costs, we are going to be using midi bang paint Pro on a tablet. Media bank paint Pro is available on Android, iPhone, iPads, Windows, and Mac OS. So here I actually have a Samsung Galaxy S7 plus, which is an Android to have lead. So if you are using the iPad or using an Android tablet, just go into the apps thaw. And here I have the Google Play Store, just such for midi bang. And just install the app. The app is free, but it's ad supported. You can actually pay to remove the ads. That's up to you. So the other thing you need is a stylist. So for this particular tablet, it actually comes with do some song as pen, which supports 2D and precious sensitivity. Now if you are using a Samsung tablet that doesn't come with this pen, unfortunately, you cannot use debt tablet with the ASP pen. You have to use something like those. Rubber tip on disk tips dialysis. The downside for a rubber tips dollars is the tip is quite big. So when you're drawing the tibia is actually going to cover the lines. Compared to a fine point tip like this, you will be able to see your lines more clearly when you are drawing. The alternative to a rubber tip. Stella's is a disk tips dollars. So the advantage is this, this is transparent. So when you're drawing, you can actually see the line beneath the tip. However, sometimes the disk me actually get in the way so that can be a bit inconvenient. If you're using an iPad, I highly recommend you get the Apple pencil. Just make sure you get the correct Apple pencil for the iPad model that you are using. The Apple Pencil is the best stimulus for the iPad. There's supports pressure as well as to test sensitivity just like some sort of span. All right, that's open media buying. Caned actually have many drawing apps on my Android tablet. The three main ones that I use are Clip Studio Paint, which is a monthly subscription app. There's drawing or illustration app has way more features compared to media being pinned. However, you have to pay money to use this address. Media bank paint is free. The second app that I really like is concepts, which is a vector illustration app. This app is free to use with basic tools provided, however, to unlock or the twos, you have to pay us well, but it's a onetime purchase. And then we have mini bank paid, which is a really nice app for beginners because it has all bayes, the illustration twos and it's free. By the way, if you want to learn digital illustration with these two apps, I actually have causes. Meet for them so you can check them out if you are interested to learn this to abscess. Well, so let's open this. This is the first screen you should see when you launch me bang, right? I wanted to talk about this tablet stand at a half here. The tablet stand is optional, but I highly recommend you get a tablets then. So a tablet stand, we allow you to place your tablet on it so that you can work on your tablet angle for long periods of time without discomfort. And this particular tablet standards to Pablo PER 100, which is a really nice Stan because you can adjust the angle of this then very easily. You can deploy this then at any angle very easily using this latch, that is, you can find this then on Amazon, I highly recommend you get a tablet stand, even if you don't get the same rent or model that I have here. All right, In the next lesson, I will show you around the user interface of mini bank paint. 3. User interface: Welcome back. So in this lesson I'm going to show you around the user interface of media bang paint. Now this is the Android version of minivan paid. If you're using the iPad version, there are going to be some differences compared to the Android version. For example, the user interface may look different. The location of the palettes may be different. Some of the icons for the same tools may look at different. So for example here, the tool to clear the layer. Here it looks like there's cross icon that will clear the layer. But here the icon is actually a square with any razor on top. So the twos, they do the same thing just at David luke, different. If you're using the iPad version, you can still follow along with this tutorial because most of the basic drawing tools will still be the same. Just that sometimes when I talk about tool, I may describe how to look. That icon may actually look different on iPads, so you may have to spend a bit more time to look for that tool. One big difference between the iPad version and the Android version is the iPad version has more features, more tools, and more shortcuts. But the Android version has just a subset of all the twos here. And that is the main reason why I am actually using the Android version or minivan paint to teach this course. Because when I use the Android version, the iPad users will also be able to follow along because you should have all the tools available. However, if I were to use the iPad version to teach and draw it, uses may not be able to follow along because some of the tools or shock hearts, all features may be missing, right? So the first thing to do is actually to create an and immediate bank account. You can actually stop drawing, but I highly recommend you create an account with the bank because these will allow you to get access to read brushes. And this will also allow you to save your falls on to their Cloud storage. So if your tablet gets stolen or if you want to have that crashes for whatever reasons your art works, we'll still be saved online. You can retrieve them online. You can even use desk taught me bang on MacOS or on Windows to open those same follows that were saved on to the needy bang claps server. So let's go in and sign in. If you don't have an account, you can create an alcohol here. So I'm going to just sign in it because I already have an account. So I've just signed in and I have this default profile picture here. You can change the profile picture if you want to. Now, there is this button here called remove ads, which allows you to pay to remove at. So here I actually don't have ads because I already picked that one time payment off nine US dollars. Otherwise you may see ads here or here or not sure where they actually plays that, That's alright. So the first thing to do before you go into the user interface is to click on this button here, my gallery. And this is very important. You don't create a new canvas first. You should always go to my gallery first. So these will allow you to look at the different folders and available on your tablet as well as media bank paint pros club on your Google Drive or Dropbox up club. So what we wanted to do here is to click on illustration. I cannot remember if this were the default names or if I have actually renamed them. The Cloud icon just means false here on me, bangs close or VR. So when you click this and you click the Plus, the fall will be created onto the Cloud. If you'll click Local saves here and you'll click that Plus to create a new canvas. That file will be created within the app itself. And if you click this folder here and you click the plus icon, they will ask you where you want to save. Do you want to save it app or do you want to save it in a folder that's on Android? If you save your file in the media bank app, you will not be able to find that fall if you look through the Android file system. So these are all the different ways you can save to files. I will go with saving the files onto the club because it's easier for me. And it also gives you access to this falls from any other tablet that you are using that it has midi bang. You can also assess these files from your desktop that's running Mac OS, all we know. So saving these files onto the Cloud, it's very convenient. You have Google Drive or Dropbox. You can also connect those Cloud servers here to midi bang. And you can save to those clusters using either cloud here. So in illustration, Cloud folder, I'm going to click this plus icon to create a new illustration. And I'm going to title this first and click Set. And I'm going to open this fall. Yep, So let's open the file. So if I asked you to create the dimensions and resolution, you can select one of the papers sizes here. So I'm going to select a fall. And a four is 29.7 centimeters by 21 centimeters and resolution is 350 DPI, which is great. If you want to create art works and you want to send that out to a printer to print, make sure you have it at, at least 300 dpi. So 350 dpi is higher. It's going to give you a sharper high resolution file. And let's click. Okay, so this canvas is now vertical, but I want it horizontal. So we are going to use a tool to turn this into horizontal format permanently. And we're going to use this button here. There is this square icon here with a pencil on it. So tap on this and tap on rotate canvas left or Canvas right. They would do the same thing. So now that Canvas is horizontal permanently. So the first thing we should do is to go into the settings, to change certain settings to make the drawing what flow or drawing process smoother. So let's look for US pen pressure. This checkbox may or may not be checked. If it's not checked, definitely check the checkbox because these will allow you to draw with pen pressure. So when you draw with heavy pressure applied, your lines will be thicker and when you've drawn with minimal pressure, deadlines will be thinner and this will allow you to draw a very expressive lines. Use palm rejection is an option here. So right now it is not checked. Let me show you what happens when I draw with my finger. So let's say you are drawing and you place your palm on a display, it may introduce some stray stroke. So if you don't want this to happen, you can actually go into the settings and check box step, turn on, use palm rejection. So now what's going to happen is when you draw with your finger, nothing will happen. So you can place your palm on the display and trawling. There's, We're having to worry about your palm or your finger treating straight strokes. So that is really useful. And you can still use your finger. All finger gestures, even with palm rejection turned on that scroll down to pot. Mary says display shortcuts. So the general shortcut to undo is to use two fingers to tap on the display and three fingers will redo. So you already can use your fingers, four fingers shortcut so you don't have to at is two shortcuts so you can actually remove them. When you remove those shortcuts, they will remove from this shortcut bar right at the bottom. So you can add or remove shortcuts here, let me show you more useful ones to add here. Let's go into the settings again. That's moved down. So the eye dropper, the brush and the eraser, you can actually remove them because those twos are reradiate there on the tool bar by default. So if you want to add them, this will give you additional buttons at the bottom. But by default this buttons are already there at the toolbar at the top. Transparent color allows you to see Transparent Canvas. This is the hand tool that allows you to move the canvas. But you can already do that with your fingers so you don't have to have that. The app will automatically save your artwork every 15 minutes. But if you wanted to do so manually, you can include a button. To do so. Here I can have copy, cut and paste. I can have select or deselect, invert selection. Zoom in and out. You can really do with your fingers. Are you doing that? Rotate left, rotate right. Again, you can use your fingers to do that so we don't need those shock. And here at the bottom we have reset. Basically this will reset the Canvas too few up the whole display, which I'm going to show you later on. And this cross here will help you clear the layer. So this is a nice shortcut that allows you to delete everything on the layers with the temple one button. So this other shortcut buttons that I have configured to appear here may not be a shock huts are available behind some of these buttons. For example, cut, copy and paste is behind this button, so you have to tech ones and then begin. However, if you have the shortcut here, you just have to tap ones instead of tapping twice. So the resize Canvas button that I showed you earlier is here. Press that and he will fill the whole screen. Very convenient. So this is a general user interface of midi bang, you have twos right here. You have the options for the twos here. So for example, if you click on this brush icon here, this will allow you to draw with the brush. But if you want to change the type of brush, you have to press this button here. So this will give you access to the different type of brushes that are available. And if you click on that, you raise a button, for example. And you want options for the eraser again and click here. And this will show you the different types of eraser. This button here looks like this, but basically when you click here or here, this button, we'll just change. And as you can see, you can change the colors here. Personally, I prefer to use a color wheel, so I'm going to tap here on the palette options. So I can choose colors here using the color wheel all if you want to minimize these so that you have more space to draw, just tap and it will go back. And you have this column bars to choose your colors. And you can also tap this arrow here too high, it completely. But I always live either this or this on because I need to change colors quite often. And this, but then here, this is the LEA is, but then tap on it and the leader will appear here. So we have the Layers palette. You can create a multiple Lee, yes, you can create different types of layers. Just to be low. The Layers button is this circular button with a few dots on it. So when you attempt this, this will open up this pellet which allows you to add patterns, textures, materials or EPA and those onto the canvas. So here I have nothing but you can find a lot of textures for our midi bangs us. Just click on those buttons below to import those textures and patterns. I have already imported reference photo that I have here. So once it's here on the palette, you can actually just tap on it. And it will go on to the layer, on this particular layer. And he will show you this tiny little icon here, that reference photo is here. This reference photo is in the way so I can resize all move this around to resize it. You just have to click the corner control point to resize it and then move it around. If you don't knit this, you can just turn off the layer. Just click the eyeball button here to turn it off. You can turn off all the leaves if you want to. This reference photo is now actually mixed with the layer with all the strokes because if I turn this off, notice disparate line is also gone. I highly recommend you create a layer specifically just for reference photos, right? I've just cleared out all of the allele as we've does cross, but then also trashed order of the year. So now we are back with an empty canvas. Now, there are a lot of twos here. I don't want to go through them one by one because it's difficult for you to remember what they actually do. So I will actually show you how they work. Do you read a drawn Q tomorrow so that you can learn as you use those tools, it'll be easier to remember those twos that way. So in the next lesson, we are going to draw. 4. Let's draw a truck: Hello and welcome back. So in this lesson we are finally going to have some hands-on drawing exercise those. So this is again the homepage of Android version of mini bank paint. By the way, the iPad version looks like this. So the new Canvas, the previous icon to my gallery icon, they are all here. Just, they look different. I'm not going to show this again because it's quite disrupting a for me to always show this tablet. So our first thing to do is to tap on my gallery. Let's do that. And let's tap on this icon here, the illustration Cloud icon, and tap on the plus icon here to create a new illustration, a new Cloud illustration. And that's title it rock, because we are going to draw a truck to day. So at that file has been created, that's or burn it. And here we need to choose to paper size. I'm going to choose A4 and I'm going to click, Okay. So once again it is Canvas is vertical, which is not what I want. That's tab on this icon here to change the canvas. So I'm going to rotate the canvas, right? So now I'll just kind of as this horizontal permanently. The next thing we want to do is to import a reference photo and put it somewhere onto the canvas so that we can refer to it while we draw. So to do that, just tap on this Layers palette icon and the Layers palette will appear. Click on this plus icon here at the bought them. And a manual should pop up. That's lacked an image to add. It's one of the options here. And this are the reference photo that I have already downloaded onto my Android tablet. Now to follow along this lesson, obviously you have to download the same for those which I have provided. That's choose this photo here. So for this photo, we can see the front and the side of the truck, as well as the top of the truck. So this is a 3D view of this truck. I'm going to resize these truck using this magnification slider here. I'm going to make this photo smaller. This white box that you see is actually the A4 canvas that you created earlier. So I'm going to resize is for those smaller and later please it at the top left so that it doesn't block the canvas while I am drawing. So let's tap on the button set. Do we extract the line art? No. All right, so now that a photo is placed onto the canvas, Let's move this to the top left. I'm going to use this move tool here. Just tap on it and tap anywhere on the canvas to move this to the top left. Now you can see Somme on what that space here, and you see this base is not required. You can actually use this little tool. It's this button here which are the dotted lines. You can tap on it once and use your pen or you can use your finger to select this area here that you don't want and tap on the cut icon. The icon is available here. If you have selected to add the icon here. If not, then you can tap here on this tool and then look for the cut icon to see this icon here and just click here or click here. All right, so now this part is cut away and now the reference photo is taking up less space on this canvas. Now that we have our reference photo here, let's create a new layer for our line. Let's click on the tap on the plus icon here and tap here to create a new color layer. Let's rename the layer by tapping on this icon here, and that's called this delay your line art. We are going to create layers for the line OD, all textures, for colors, for the shadows. We create so many liters because it's going to be easier to add deed differently is later on. So click Set or tap on this set. So let's draw now to draw that, select the brush and just tap on the brush icon here, and tap on the options here to select a brush. I'm going to choose this Sumi brush. If you do not see the Sumi brush under this list, you may have to add that brush to the list. To do that, just tap on this plus icon here. And this will give you access to all the default brushes that are available within this app, as well as all the brushes from the callout. There are many brushes available from the Cloud after you have immediate bank account. So let's scroll down and look for sue me. There are many different types of Sumi brushes. Sumi default barraged as Sumi lightest, so me to three fourths and the thick as choosed a tsunami if you don't already have this brush on your brush pallet. Now that you have the brush selected, make sure you are on the correct layer, the line art layer. And then you can tap the layers palette, too high. Layers palette so that you have more space to draw. You can also hide this pellet, the options palette like this. But before we do that, select a color. So I'm going to select this black color here, or you can use this slider to select your color. There are a few things you need to know about your brush before we start drawing. And main thing is you can change the thickness of the line depending on the brush size. So you can change the brush size by tapping here and dragging your finger up and down. So now I'm up to increase the brush size, double-tap to do. And I can drag this icon here and track it down to reduce the brush size. If you're using a pan with prejudice sensitivity, you can actually choose a bigger brush and draw a very minimal pressure to get into lines and a VA or pressure to get thicker lines. So just choose whatever brush thickness you prefer. And this button at the bottom here, because we will change the opacity of the brush. So if you have like last opacity, the brush, we'll appear to be transparent, something you can't even see. So I'm going to have this at maximum opacity, that means black. And then choose a brush size that I like. That's undo. Or you can just tap on this cross button or the clear layer button. Alright, so let's draw this truck. I have selected this specific photo or subject to draw because it's a very boxy subject. Now, if you are not able to draw this accurately from observation, it's our right. You don't have to be disappointed. Upset. To draw. Better, to get better at drawing, or you have to do is to practice, the more you draw, the better you will get. So the goal of my class really is to teach you what's possible when it comes to a digital illustration using this app. All right, so that's skewed down to Canvas slightly and draw the box CA rear first the back of their truck. Now if you are not happy with the lines that you create it, you can always undo, just double-tap on the canvas to undo. But try not to undo too much because the more you do, the more time you have to spend with God, Freud. And also, and drawing tried to close up deadlines. Don't leave open gaps like this. Try to close up the lines and don't draw too many lines like the his, uh, when one line will do, this is going to make your drawing very untidy. So here we have this shape, which represents this shape. And let's draw angle here. Again, don't be too stress up about not being able to copy or draw what you see in front of you. And it's all right if your lines are slightly wobbly because you don't have to draw a perfectly straight line in order to give the illusion that deadline is Street. All right, That's draw this here and here. Notice when I am drawing sometimes the line, it doesn't come out. That could be an issue with the palm rejection. So you may want to go into the settings to turn on all off palm rejection. I'm going to leave it turned on. So this is the boxy pot off the vehicle. And I realized that I have drawn this too much to the right side of the canvas. So I'm going to move this to the center slightly. I'm going to tap on the move tool there and move it to the center. I cannot use my finger because of palm rejection, so I have to use my pen. So move it somewhere here, maybe a bit further up and, and go back to the brushing. Okay, so let's zoom in again. So it's very intuitive to use fingers to zoom in and out and advocate and rotate. So let's see the truck here and draw truck. We have this bumper here and this is truck and this site here. So let's draw the bumper here in front. Notice I did not close up to the line. Make sure you always close the lines. Try to draw everything with one line rather than have multiple lines. For example, don't do this. Alright? When you can do this, draw with one single line like this. This is going to make your drawing looks so much better. If you want to draw accurately always asks your cell where that line is going to start or end in relation to other things that you have already drawn. So for example, let me draw the window here in front. So this window, we'll start here and go down, load this site mirror there and go to the left side here, load this side Mira here and then go up. And that's joined a lines. And there is this shape here for the side window. And we can draw the site we do here as well. We can even draw the handle here. And let's draw the lights here in front. Here as well. For the green cells here, we are not going to draw that. I'm going to show you how you can draw differently, how you can draw those differently later on. All right, So now I think I've made a mistake with this window here. If you look at the reference photo, though the angle is like this, whereas mine is slightly more horizontal. So what I want to do here is to use race. So I'm going to tap on the erase button there and just erase. You go using the wrong erase, but then you can't tap on to options here to choose the correct eraser. As we have brushes, you can change the size and opacity of the eraser. So here I'm just using this eraser to erase this part here. And look at the photo more closely to draw the correct angle. So I'm going to go back to the brush again. And this time I'm going to draw the ankle a bit steeper. This k This looks all right. You may not be able to see the front of the truck because of this photo, but there is actually a dashpot here which I'm going to draw. And there is also steering wheel here, which I'm going to draw. I'm not able to see this insight. So maybe let's just leave it as it does not draw anything for their seats, for the wheels. Let's just draw or an oval because this truck is in perspective, if you don't like how that will looks, just double-tap to undo. Or if you accidentally undo, you can redo just by using three fingers to tap and line, we'll come back. So let me try and draw this wheel again. I think it looks like the bad. So that's given this wheel some thickness. And we'll be high as well. Alright, so at this point, you can see you this truck is well, kinda recognize a bowl. Mine is not as accurate as what I imagine it to be. Mostly because this front here, it's looping like this, whereas you can see the front of the photo, it's actually more vertical. So again, I may actually want to go in and change this slightly just to make some adjustments. Now if you draw carefully, you don't have to do this corrections. So if you draw carefully, you can actually save a lot more time when it comes to creating art. Oops, why is that line not coming out? By the way? You can have the eraser. You can use the eraser from here or you can add that. You raise a button here as well. Remember this shortcut bar here, it's customizable. So here I wanted to raise this as well just to make this part and look slightly nicer, I guess. Is it better? I'm not too sure. Anyway, doesn't matter. The most important thing here is to make sure that you close up all the gaps. Alright, thank shave. Close up on gaps. Let me make some corrections here as well. Now one thing when it comes to drawing is if you want to make your drawings look how nice litter, in addition to just practice, sometimes you can draw like faster. When you hesitate, when you are drawing, sometimes the lines will look like more wobbly. So if you draw, foster your lines, we actually look more confident and look like, nicer. But again, all of this will come with practice. Even for me when I'm teaching right now, I'm drawing slower than usual tests, white airlines, they look a bit more wobbly. But usually when I'm drawing, I'm actually drawing like much faster. So the lines will look straighter, smoother, That's wobbly. 5. Colouring process: Okay, So this is what we have so far. It's a bit wonky, but doesn't really matter. That's look at the layers palette again. And now let's color this trucks. So that's at another layer, a color layer. Here on top. You can actually move the layers up and down. That's habit on top. And now let's use the paint bucket tool to paint all of this green. So select the paint bucket tool and select a green color. If you have difficulty using the slider. I was say, practice using the slider because it's quite convenient, it's dismiss. It takes up this small area here, which gives you more a rear wall canvas to draw. Or you can just use the color wheel, but this is going to take up mall. Sometimes I use to assess well, because to me the color wheel is small, convenient. So that's how it is. Green color and tap away. Have to paint bucket. Make sure you are on the correct layer. I'm going to tap on this icon there to rename this layer and let's call it the colors. All right, so that's tap on this area here to paint. Notice how the greenness feel into this and closed shape. Now if we look very close, you can see is that the green does not feel this H here. So what we wanted to do is to undo, double-tap on the canvas to undo and tap here. Make sure the paint bucket is select it, tap here to expand. That's having span two pixels, which basically means the field will expand to pixels into the black. So once again, let's tap this area here. And notice now we have less of the white h, but we still have this white edge here. So maybe we need to expand a bit more. That's habit X band at fault pixels. Okay, Let's zoom down again. And now it looks, right. Now, it seems like the color is overlapping onto that line art. Now using the Layers palette, you can tap on this eyeball icon to turn it on or off. So it does seem like the collar is overlapping onto the line art. So what I wanna do now is to maybe we can move the colors layer below the line art so that it lines up here on top of the colors. It's like this. You can use the arrows here to move to alleles around up or down. Or you can have the collars layer on top of the line art but changed a blending mode to multiply. So the blending mode is somewhere here, tap on it and change it to multiply it, we'll do the same thing. But in this case here I wanted to have it as much calmer blending mode. I'm just going to move the colors below the line. So I'm going to tap on this layer and move it though. Deadline not. And now that's continue to few colors. So that's select the paint bucket and few that colors. Right? This is booking. Well, now if you do not close up your lines, for some people that say, you have this gap here, alright? So if you haven't this gap here and you proceed to feel the color, the color will actually leak out of this shit here, into this sheet here. So you really want to close up oil lines when you feel That's very important, this will help you collar much faster. Rather than using the brush to actually go in and color like this, it's going to take a lot of time. So using a few bucket tool will help you color much faster. All right, so now let's proceed to color everything else. I'm going to use black or very dark gray to colour this pot here. So let's use color wheel. And make sure you're on the correct layer and just tap on the area. So I need to select the paint bucket. Here and here, here, here. That's paint all the areas that are supposed to be black hopes. Notice what happened here because there is this open gap there. So an alternative is to use the brush to color that a rear and then fill it up. So just will fill up that area nicely. For a small area, sometimes it's a bit difficult to use the few bucket, so you can just use the brush and go into color. This part here will be gray as well. Oh, this is supposed to be gray or black, not green case, so that see what else we can draw or paint. This will be gray hopes. Always make sure you have the correct tool selected. When you are drawing. And now under draw the graves photographs, I'm going to use this brush to draw the gross. I'm going to select this white color here by color. So I can draw the grills like this. This is just one way you can draw the arrows. The other way is to actually use the eraser to erase the green. So if we use the eraser like this, you can erase the green. But I'm going to use the brush k. Because when I used a brush, I get to use the same brush as Sumi brush to create those lines. Okay, so now we have to gross in front. Maybe we can add some details here. I'm going to choose a gray color like this, maybe at some details here for the wheels. K. Now for this area here you take a look at the reference photo. You can see there are green pot. So there are a few ways you can go about painting that green part. You can use the lasso tool or the Lasso selection tool to draw an area and then color within. Or you can use this brush. Just draw that shape. Oops, it's not the correct color. It's gray color, so let's use the same color to use the same color. All you have to do is to tap on the eyedropper tool here is, I will prefer to pick the color that you already have on to Canvas and that color will be selected. So now it's back to the brush tool. And let's draw this part here. Alright, and we have this bottom part here as well, which is green. And we can now use the fill bucket to few the canvas very quickly. There is a white line here, so that's used this brush and so that white color. And draw that line over, hopes. This is to a fix. So that's changed a brush size on the brush size icon. And steal a bound. Rush is do a make it easier for you to draw in the lines. All right, so now we have this. We can also draws on all the pet thens on the right side of the truck. Those icons on the right-side up borrowing color, so that's go in to say brown. Now instead of using the color wheel here, you can also tap on this icon here to see if you have any preset colors. These are the different palettes you can choose. I don't see a brown here, so let's go back to the color wheel to select a brown. S. Have this dark brown here. There are five icons on this side of that truck. So let's draw 512 and that's hide the layer so that we can see more of the canvas. 345 that's close up this gap here. And use the paint bucket tool again to guess few of the colors. Now there are some drawings within those icons. Those drawings are going to be quite small. Now if you take a look at your overall sketch right now you can see you don't really have to draw those icons in like great detail. Because when you scale down your drawing, It's going to look like this. You may not be able to see the details. So I'm going to use a white brush. Said just the DTUs hopes. Make sure you select the correct tool. So I'm just going to use the right brush to suggest that DTUs, you didn't do draw like exactly the same thing, especially for DTUs that are really like small. That's at some more details to make this drawing look more detailed. So I'm going to add some colors to the top of that. Some parallel lines. Those are gray colored lines. I'm going to have those grid lines quite faint. And I'm going to draw them like this. And yep, the line is too thin, so let me hide this and increase the brush size. Okay, this is not too thick, so let me use less pressure to draw those lines. Draw them quick. Annual lines will be straight and draw them slow and your lines will be wobbly like that. So, um, do some lines over shot outside black, so let's erase that. That's also draw the logo here. I'm going to have the logo in black, so let's have this in black. Now notice the colors are overlapping onto this. That's hopes that see what we have at the Layers palette. Now, I have accidentally drawn the line here onto the same layer. So this means if I am going to erase this part here, all right, this I may accidentally erased. If I wanted to erase the green, I may accidentally erased on line art, which is what I do not want. So let's undo, undo, and select a line art layer and once again as draw that logo again case. So now we can have this and to erase the green part, we just have to go into the cow's layer, select the eraser and erase this, so this is much easier. That's why we work in layers. So if we want to delete or a discipline of things, we can just select the appropriate layer and GES at D8, k. So k, my logo doesn't look exactly as stamped logo. That's alright. Let's see what else we can do. I think this sketch is pretty much done in terms of the line art and the coloring. But helps I'm, he wanted to make this pot here darker to separate this area from the dashpot. So to do that, I'm going to select the color here. I'm going to use eyedropper again, select here, and That's see what color we can change. Let's make this slightly darker, just slightly darker, and use the paint bucket tool to just paint it. It's not a big difference, so let's make it even darker. Yep. And tap on the brush here to paint here, right? So you may notice certain areas the few bucket is not able to reach, so just painted them in manually yourself. There are some highlights on the truck, like white areas, so maybe we want to add some highlights as well. I'm going to add some highlights here and maybe here and here. Here, here. And maybe have some highlights here at the top of the truck. Just to create more detail. And what he's the handle here, it's not green. So that's used to eyedropper again and painted green. And use the eyedropper to select the highlight color and add some highlights here. And maybe here, and P here. 6. Correcting mistakes: In this lesson, I'm going to talk about correcting mistakes. So earlier on I already showed you how to correct this mistake. Now I have an animistic, we have a line drawing and it's this area here. So if you take a look at the reference photo, you can see this white area here that I had forgotten to draw. So I left his truck all the way to the back. But actually there should be this white area here. So what we're gonna do now is to like fix this. So that's fixed the line art and let's turn off the colors so that we are not be distracted by the colors. And let's erase this part here. Oops. Now you have to erase on the correct layer. If you erase on the wrong layer, there will be a dialog box that pops up to tell you that you are using the wrong layer. So let's go to deadline on area to erase that. So I'm going to erase this part here and look at the reference photo more closely and draw that line properly. Make sure you select the correct color and draw that line properly. His time. Yep. I think this looks bet, sir. Yep. And this angle here, It's also bit off. So that's raised is if you actually spend more time observing your subject, then you would have less chances of making mistakes like this. So try to focus on observing your subject draw cap will leave you can so that you can minimize mistakes and you can minimize having to do corrections later on. Okay, let's turn on the colors and see how it looks. So this part here, it looks mast up right now, so we have to do some correction. Let's raise some of the colors here, make sure you are on the correctly year before you erase. So I need to erase this whole pot here, like this. And this area here is supposed to be white. So that's e raised that. So if you have a lot of corrections to do, imagine how much time you're going to have to spend to erase and redraw and recolor. So that can get quite tedious. So that's use the same green color again, use the Eyedropper. Two, I dropped the original color and paint like this. Alright, so now we have this truck that shows this part correctly. If you wanted to see what you have so far, just remove all the palettes and tap on this view Canvas. But then here to show everything. Okay, So this is what we have so far. In the next lesson. We are going to as light and shadows to this sketch to make it look more three-dimensional. 7. Adding shadows: All right, so in this lesson we're going to add shadows. So let's create another layer for the shadows that's at tap on the plus button there and add a color layer. We are going to have the shadow layer on top of the colors. So make sure that the year is on top of the color layers. That's rename the layer shadow. Alright, so that's paid some shadows. You can pin the shadows by turning off their collars layer like this, and proceed to use the paint bucket to select the color. Make sure it's gray. Okay, this looks like a great movie. And make sure the shadow layer is selected and just tap on it. So we are going to paint the shadow layers. Now this is just one way you can do it. The other way is to have the Callas Leah showing and then use the paint bucket to. But then you realize that a pin bucket we only paid I paint within this shape here because it's affected by the green colored there. So what we wanted to do is to color the shadows very quickly. So I'm going to turn off the colors and just a few the site here. So any areas that are going to be in shadows will be painted with this ray, including this area here, but this front bumper here is supposed to be in light. So we can we will only pin this area here which is in shadow. I'm going to use the brush and state. Because if I used a few bucket is going to fill up this whole thing. You can also paint over the wheels depending on whether using the brush or the few bucket is faster. I mean, just choose to choose your preferred tool to fill in those colors. Okay, so yap, so we have Chez feel in the right side of this. And we can also paint the shadows beneath the key. He go like this. So this is what we have so far with the shadows. Let's turn on catalyse. All right, Notice when I turn on the colors, the colors don't appear beneath the shadows. So for the shadows, we need to change the blending mode to multiply so that it can multiply it onto the colors beneath. So that's select Multiply. And now you can see the shadows are on top of the colors. So these areas shares should be in shadow as well. So let's select the shadow area and this area. All right, So now we have to truck the side of the truck in shadow disk, create some more three-dimensional look to it. Now for the shadow on the ground, the shadows, they don't have hot ages like this. So here I have rather hot h. So if you want to soft and the ages, you can do so. That's select the eraser to see if we can soft and the ages. The soft eraser is the one we issues select here, tap on it. And that's height his palette, because it's taking up a lot of space and that's just erased. So now with the software is that you can see the ages are now soft then. So let me just erase this part here. I'm going to increase the size of the eraser. Now to make the eraser software, you can actually increase the size of the eraser and erase it further away from the shadow. I mean, just undo. And that's exactly what I am going to do here. Erase, make that you raise a bigger, but you raise further away from this shadow. And this wheel soft than the shadow ages quite nicely. Now, the shadow that is directly beneath that is going to be much darker. So this shadow is still considered grade. It's not like really dark yet, so let's use the brush and select a color. Let's have it much darker. Oops. Notice the hot h Again, we don't want that. So that's half soft brush. That's choose Add brush and see if it works. That's test it somewhere for us. All right, so this airbrush. Books maybe have the airbrush, bit darker. Canaanites, high debt and that's pinned the airbrush here. You can change the size of the average SQL. That's changed a size. It seems like there is a maximum size own there. I accidentally make it made it much bigger. Anyway, just painted shadows like this. Now you may notice as I paint the shadows, some other shadows actually went on top of the truck. We will fix that later. That's just mic. I'll make the brush smaller so days easier to use. Oops. Some of the shadows actually went onto the truck. But we can use the eraser to erase those shadows. Make sure you choose the eraser. Now switching between the 2's will take some time to get used to. But once you are very familiar with the 2s, where they are the options you can get, you can switch between the two is like really quickly. Oops, oops, case. So that's erase here. I just realized that I add brush onto the layer with the shadow, which is supposed to be correct, but I need to use these colors. So let me use the eyedropper to two. I drop it akin and hopes. As the eyedropper to, oops, I'm still using the eraser. That's why this is happening. Let me undo. You can always undo by tapping this shortcuts here. Switch to the brush. I dropped Burr and yep. And you use a hot brush, the Swami brush that I was using earlier. So it is looks all right. This looks fine now. So now this soft shadow is 0 NY beneath that truck, not on the truck here as well. And that's alright, let's turn this back on here as well. Do some fixing here and there. And that's have some highlights on HIT lights. So select that collars layer and the brush that's have white are slightly bright gray. Oops, I think this looks alright. Alright, just some touches to create a bit more details. 8. Adding textures: This is the drawing of that we have sole Pharm. Adding shadows really make this truck and look more dimensional. But I want to add a bit more details and now I am going to add textures to the talus. So to add textures, Let's create eight and Natalie year. This time I'm going to create a layer on top of the shadows layer. That's create another color layer. Rename this layer, that's call it textures. So let's go into the brush icon on the brush and going to the brush pallet here to see you, we have any like so that the brush is just look around the list here to see if there are any letter brushes. Speckled brush. Let's see what is speckle brush. Okay, sparkle brush looks like this. Creates a spiracles are not what I want. And that's C. It doesn't seem like there are any splatter brushes here. So that's look online, look at the clot brushes to see if there are any split and brushes here. There is one here, and another one here called Fragment. Fragment two is also a splatter brush. So I'm going to add those three splitter brushes. I'm going to split the first. This will let you see what this brush is all about. Let's set, continue to add the attitude brushes. So I've just added the three splatter brushes now there are now like too many brushes here. So if there are certain brushes that you just don't use, you can actually just removed them. I'm going to remove me be stipple, brush, pen, trash icon and a will allow you to remove that rush. And West US speckle brush or the area that's removed a speckled brush as well. It's not that useful. All right, so now I have to splatter brush selected. I'm going to paint some splatter on top of the truck. Make sure you are on the correct layer and let's paint splatter. So notice the US letter MUX here on. They are a bit too small. So let me just this and increase the size of the splatter. I think it looks nicer now, let's increase the size of the splatter again. So just choose the appropriate size that you want. Now, this gray color splatter is mixing with the gray of the shadows. So if you want to, you can actually set the blending mode to multiply and set the blending mode for the texture layer to multiply as well. And now the texture is going to multiply on top of the colors that you had early year. You can add some textures there. I also wanted to add some textures on this side of the vehicle, but I don't want to use a texture brush anymore. I just want to use my Sumi brush. So select Sumi brush. And let's draw some lines here just to create some textures on that because it is tragus not lie perfectly clean. So we can add some dots here and there. You can ask, you can always look at some dots onto the ground, maybe some that kicked up by the tires. Sometimes the tires may have MET onto the site of the vehicles here. And here are some of the month from the tires me, the site of the vehicles here. So these are little details you can add. Now we can also add some texture to the front of the vehicle. So it is color, as you can see, it's quite flat, is just is flat green color. What I wanna do is to add some texture to the front who make the colors look more textured. So to do that, let's select that collars layer. And let's select a brush that can create textures. So that's going to the brush options here and look at the brushes that we have. We need to at some brushes on the mean, we can choose watercolor and see what the brush does. So that's paint outside here up, not doesn't look. That's just looking into the cloud brushes and choose. Textured brush, watercolor, rough, looks like a rough brush, so I'm going to add that later and that's there around bit and law. So there are so many brushes you can choose here. Chances are you will find, you will be able to find one that suits your needs. So I'm going to add what a colleague, Rob, I'm also going to add this fluffy what a color because it looks like a texture brush as well. And maybe paint one. So that's those three brushes. So I've just added the three brushes, Let's tasks and watercolor, rough first, you can also change the brush size here. There's also a slider here. So this is nice. This is a type of texture I'm actually looking for in this task. The other two brushes. This also looks nice. This is fluffy watercolor. Three. I have Sumi two as well, so me to doesn't look death nice. So let me just trash Sumi to remove it. Okay, at this point in time, you can actually turn off the reference photo, just tap on to eyeball icon here to remove the reference for though. So let's add some texture to the green. Select the green layer, which basically is a colorless layer and tap on de Fluffy watercolor brush all whatever texture brush you are using. Let's select this color. We want a variation of this green color. So that's habit and it darker. All right, this looks nice. You can see that a little bit of texture in front, but that texture is actually too small, so that's have to brush beaker. And notice when I am pinning over the lines, the lines disappear because earlier on when I drew those lines, the, we're on this seemingly are asked to cause layer. So it doesn't matter. They did it on Weibo, redraw that again. But this is the type of things are you should take note of when it comes to drawing. The order in which you place the lines, the colors, the textures matters a lot. So if you don't want this to happen, you should draw the lines on its own layer. So I'm going to have this much doctor or just create some texture, mono disability texture here, right? Maybe for the top side I can have it lighter. This k. So here you can see the front part of the truck. It's now texture. It's like it's a T. It has more dequeues. It looks more interesting compared to just a flat color like this k. So I also wanted to add some textures here and also to the side of the vehicle. Just to make this truck a bit to the case. So let's go back and draw those lines again. This time I'm going to create a separate area for the reals. So let's create that. Tap on the Plus, create a color layer, rename the layer grills. And let's select the Sumi brush and draw the Qin hopes wrong color. And we can draw some details here as well. For the details here I want to use, say, a variation of this green color. So I'm using the eyedropper again to make this a bit darker, to draw the reals here. Maybe some highlights here. Okay, So this is what we have. 9. More about layers: So this is the completed sketch. In this lesson, I wanted to talk a bit more about the layers palette. Having the layers are working with layers is really very convenience. So for example, let's say you are working with a client who commissions you to draw or a vehicle and a client doesn't like this green color. So if you have the collars on the collars layer, you can actually just select that layer and swap out the green color. So let me just turn off all the other layers first. Oops, okay, So this is what we have so far. Now, this is going to be a bit problematic when it comes to a swapping out the colors because on this color layer, you see the green, it's mixed with the article is the browns, grays, the black. So if you want to change that hello, This Vigo, it's going to be a bit challenging because you have to repaint all this pot. So if you want to make it easier for you to change colors, you have to paint the single color on its own layer, so you can only have two green on its own layer. All right, let me show you what I mean. So let's say you are coloring this again for the first time. Create a new color layer. I'll rename the layer that's cool colors to set. So now I want to pin this truck in like red color. Let's choose this rate and make it a bit Dao, not as brent. And use the paint bucket tool to quickly paint this truck. Okay. So that was quick, right? So now let's say you want to change the color of this rock. You know what? Let's add color here on the side as well. That's used a few bucket akin to paint thin this so this is why we have so far, let's say you wanted to change this color to something else. So to change the color of this vehicle going into the Layers palette, checkbox protect Alpha. This will allow you to paint only on the colored pixels, in which case this is RET colored pixels, all magenta color. So choose a brush and choose a different color. Let's make this truck, for example. And now when you paint over it, you can see it only paints on top of this color, so you can actually change the color of this Trump, but using this brush is going to take like a long time, too. Redraw the color. So let me just turn off the pot and use the paint bucket to, to just feel this pot. The other way to do it is to choose like brush or big brush. So go into the brush options. Choose the biggest brush you have. And then this will allow you to paint over the areas very quickly. You're going to see how your truck looks ton onto OT. If it doesn't look of grade, again, you can change the color, make sure you are painting on to correctly year. And now you can switch to colors for this vehicle so quickly. And if you wanted to add texture onto this, again, earlier on with this truck, I actually painted a texture together with the same currently is it's one way to do it. If you don't expect any changes in the future. But if you expect changes in the future, it's best to create texture the year for the color block. So that's, that's renamed is texture too. And as turn on this game so forth, texture too, That's choose this rough watercolor brush. I'm going to use these gray color. And I'm going to use this multiply mode here for the layer that's height is, and now that's paint. Oops, too dark. That's reduced. Agree? So now you can add texture onto the truck. Got texture here to create more details on a truck. And if you do it like this, you can just turn it off like this. So that's why it's great to work with the years. It will allow you to change things very easily. So with the green Trump earlier, let me just turn on the green try again. So here I am not able to fix this anymore because I painted the texture onto the color layer. The texture is not on its own layer unfortunately. But the texture flawed the splitter and also fought us size here they are on their own layer. So I can actually turn those off. And here I need to correct this mistake as well. 10. Resizing your canvas: The last thing you may want to do is to reposition your drawing. So here I have a lot of whitespace on the left side. I want to move this drawing to the center. So to do that, That's used to move to, and that's move. Oops. I'm actually selecting the grills layer. That's why I'm moving the reals. Let's do so. To move this drawing, you have to select everything and to select everything that's tapped is List icon. If it's coalesced icon. And it will show all the check boxes here. So just select every thing. Have a lot of layers, you have to do a lot of selecting. So now that all of this is selected, you can tap on the Move icon and move this to decenter, like this. The process of moving the layers or the item, sorry, the items maybe different with the iPad app. Now you see this drawings do have some whitespace on the left and right. So you may want to remove that white space, you can do so. Just select the selection tool here. Make sure you have to square box selected and drag this selection. All right, so perhaps this is the canvas that we want. So let's go ahead and delete away the outer ages tip on this area here. And sorry, tap on this button here and select up crop option. And this will crop away the whitespace leaving you with this canvas, which is now appropriateness appropriately sized for this broil. Or if you find that you need, like moss pays to draw additional things beside this vehicle, you can increase the canvas size as well. That's de-select first. Again, go into this button here and tap on Canvas settings, and let's tap on canvas size. So here is the current dimensions of this particular, All of this particular art. So it's 3,271 pixels, That's mic, the 4000 pixels and weave and make this 4 thousand pixels for the height. And now this canvas is now 4000 by 4000 pixel. It's rare. So these truck now looks a bit small compared to the Canvas which is now made beaker. So if you want to make the truck bigger, there are two ways to do so. You can select the truck and transform it or skew it up. Unfortunately, that option is not available for the Android app because the free transform tool for the Android, it's very limiting. It doesn't have the ability to scale a drawing. By the way, you would also do not want to skew a drawing because it's going to make your drawing look more pixel data. So the correct way to do so, sorry to make the truck bigger is actually to make the canvas smaller. In this case, I'm just going to live this as it is and I'm going to tap on the Save button. Don't worry if you have not saved your file all along because there is auto save every 15 minutes that I'm just going to tap here to save this. And the last thing I want to do is to create eight, an empty layer right at the top here. That's rename this layer and call it empty. These will be the protective layer. So next time when you open up the file and you accidentally at some thing onto the canvas without you knowing. You can actually just replace this protective layer. You can just delete this and create and other protective layer. So I find this to be quite useful. 11. Export and share your art online: So let's say you want to share this drawing on Instagram, and you really don't like the whitespace. So let's go ahead and crop this foot, though oddest picture or destroy a gain. Now the thing with this less so too is you cannot create a where, unfortunately. So you have to crop it close like this. Tap on a crop again and deselect and go back to the Canvas settings to take a look at a canvas size. So here I wonder we have to match the height. So I'm going to have the same width here, 33 and tap, Okay? All right, so this will give me a smaller square, in which case the truck will look bigger. Comparison, relatively speaking. So this file is currently a medium bang paint fall, which uses the MDP file format. You won't be able to share this file on Instagram because it's not the correct format. So we need to export this as a PNG or JPEG file. To do that, just tap your export PNG JPEG files and choose ups. Choose JPEG and tap. Okay? The thing with this export process is there is no way for you to choose the resolution of the JPEG, follow that or so. So no way for you to choose the compression because JPEG uses some sort of compressions or you won't be able to choose the compression. And because of that, you wouldn't be able to choose the quality of the compression. Here it seems like the fall has been compressed. We have rather high-quality, so I don't see like additional pixel lesion, which is great, that JPEG file is now saved intuitive photo gallery. So let's take a look at the photo gallery. So that's where the file is here. So now I can upload this file to Instagram, to Facebook or whatever website you want. Now if you want to work on this fall for the on your computer, you can actually do so. So now I'm actually using the damp paint Pro on my computer. This is the Mac OS version. The Windows version should look exactly the same. So to open the file that I have created earlier, Let's go to the manual bar, fall open from clout. And notice my follies here, that's the advantage of creating a clause save compared to just saving it locally onto your tablet. So let's just open this and it's going to fall onto the computer. And this is the file that I have just drawn on the tablet. So the advantage of having this fall on a desktop is you have a lot more options here. You can do even more editing if you want to. And the other advantage is you can actually export this file into a different file format so that you can look on this. We add another illustration software, or maybe you want to play it is drawing on a PhD XY software. Here you can actually export it out into a different file format that can be used with the patient design software. So let me just show you what you can do here. I'm going to go to the manual bar and choose Export. There are two exploit versions here. One is export, the other is x plus CMYK format PSD. There are more options you can choose with the desktop software. So for example, let's say we want to export this file as a JPEG. Again. Here you can actually choose the dimensions, you can change them resolution. You can also choose the JPEG compression. Whereas the air when we used a tablet version, we are not able to do all this. And if you want to use this fall with Photoshop, you can save it as a Photoshop file. Again, you can choose the resolution and dimensions. Photoshop is not able to open a media bang fall, but Photoshop, He's A02. Open up Photoshop file obviously. So you can choose to save these media bang paint profile as a Photoshop file with all the li is intact. So that's quite useful. 12. Goodbye: So what I've just taught you in this cause ATA, basic techniques and the process to creating digital art using midi bank paint. The process of creating digital art using drawing and illustration apps. It's going to be rather similar regardless of the app you use, because most of these atoms they actually do use LEA is and having layers is very useful. So this is definitely something you can't get used to. The process is just something you can't get used to with more practice. The more you draw, the better you will get. And even though the Android version of midi bank pain is kinda limited, don't let that limit you. Your limitations should be your own imagination. All right. If you guys have any questions regarding using media bang paid on a tablet, you can contact me directly or you can leave me a comment on the project page. Thanks for following along. See you guys in the next costs. I
