1. Introduction!!: Have you ever tried
your hands on Mandala? Do you like mandalas? Are you curious
about the history and the significance of Mandala? What exactly the
mandala is all about? Are you in love with Mandalas? Are you interested
to learn mandalas? If your answer is yes to
any of these questions, then this class is for
you. Hello, everyone. I'm Jotia Graval and I welcome you to my
class of Mandalas. In this class, I will
be discussing about the history and
significance of mandalas, and with that, I'll tell you so many designs that you can use to create your own mandalas. For this class, I have specially designed a seven days
Mandala challenge for myself to make this
class more learning for you. I created seven mandalas for seven days and each
mandala is very much different from the other
one so that I can create a better version and clarity
of mandalas for you. Not only the inner designs, but the outer shape or
we can say the shape of the mandala is also different in all
these seven mandalas. If you want to recreate any of the mandala from
these seven mandalas, you can easily do so by
learning from this class. And if you want to
create your own mandala after learning from this class, you can easily do so
because in this class, we are going to learn so many patterns and designs that will broaden up the scope of
drawing the mandalas for you. I believe it was a whole lot of information for introduction, so let's wrap this up and let's see you in
the next lesson to understand and to know about the significance and
history of Madamas.
2. History and Significance..: Mandala is not
just an art piece. It is a lot more than that. Mandalas holds its own beliefs and significance in
various religions. Let us understand the
concept of mandanas clearly. Mandala is a Sanskrit
word, which means circle. Mandala holds its own
ritual and spritual place in various religions like
Hinduism and Buddhism. The circular shape
represents that the life is interconnected
and never ending. It is a great tool
for meditation also. Its designs allow you to remove all the
radiating thoughts from your minds and get a
better clarity in your life. Many people try to
keep themselves involved in the process
of mandala making so that they can remove the uneven thoughts from their minds easily
and with that, they get a better life, due to which mandalas hold a great place in
various religions. As mandalas are worshiped in various religions due
to the significance, please avoid to draw mandalas on door mats or on floors
or any such areas. One more thing to
keep in mind is that the actual mandalas are
always in circular shapes. But in modern art
times it is changed. Many artists have changed
the outer shape of the mandalas due
to which you can draw mandalas with
different shapes. But the inner part of those
shapes is still filled with various rings in it and
patterns in those rings. These patterns and these rings make the great significance of mandala and hold the
essence of old mandalas. I hope all the information that you have got
from this lesson made you more interested and excited about learning
mandanas from this class. Let us move to the
next lesson to know what material we
are going to use for this class. See you there.
3. Material Required for First Mandala: So, guys, in this class, you are going to make
seven different mandalas, so the art supplies will be
different for each mandala, and I will be telling
you the material that we need in each mandala in
the beginning of it. So the material required for the first mandala
is a sketch file, or you can also use a sheet if you want to
draw it on a sheet. I'm going to use the file because I'm
drawing it in a file. Later, we will need a pencil. A ruler to draw straight lines, a black pen or maybe any other
color pen that you require to draw and colour, a compass and a pencil of the height of compass only
so that it fits completely. And some sketch pens. Here I'm using
multicolor sketch pens and some brush pens also. The colors may vary according to your need and your
expressions of mandala.
4. Setting up the Compass: So in this lesson, we are going to set up the
compass to draw the mandala. For drawing the mandala, it is compulsory
to use the compass for neat and perfect circles. For this, the compass needs a pencil that pencil should
be of height of compass only, or we can say the
length of compass only. If the pencil of compass is greater than
the length of compass, this will create
a problem for us only to draw the mandala. Now while setting the
pencil into the compass, make sure that the
tip of compass, the metallic tip of compass should be in the same level
of the tip of pencil. It means if you are
using the same compass, both should meet at a point. This helps to create
a good circle. This was our first step
to set up a compass. Now in the next lesson, we are going to start
with the mandala. See you in the next lesson.
5. Drawing Half Mandala: In the previous lesson, you have seen how we have set up the compass and now
in this lesson, I will tell you how
to draw the mandala. To draw half mandala, we first have to draw a line, which will be the center
line for this mandala. It means this is the diameter of the circle on which we are going to create the half
of mandala only. You can take any
measurement of this length according to your sheet and
your drawing preferences. Now, I'm making 1
centimeter gap points on it to make the
symmetric mandala. We have to draw
concentric circles to draw mandala
and hence to draw those concentric circles in a proper manner with
proper difference, I'm marking these points. With the help of these points, it will be easier for me
to put the compass on those points and then
make the circles easily. Now, let us start
drawing the circles. For this, put the metallic
tip of the compass at the centermost point and
the tip of pencil on the next point so that you
can now draw a circle from the next point to the
previous point and then the next and then
follow the next point. Through this, you will get
to know that you have made concentric circles with equal
distances between them. So we are now done with the
basic drawing of mandala. That is the template of
mandala, we can say, in which now we are
going to do designing. A here, I'm drawing one
more straight line below the line that we
have made earlier to give it a thick base. Now it is the time to start drawing the patterns
in the mandala. For this, in the first ring, I'm not drawing anything
because for this, I have thought of
something that I will do in the detail section. Here, from the second ring, I have drawn the petals, the circular flower petals, very basic petals to go
for a minimal design. Now for the second ring, I'm just drawing the
triangular shape in the whole circle. This can be a bit
different also. You can make so many small, small triangles in
the whole ring. But in this ring, I have
decided to make big triangles with some circular lines inside it in the inner portion
of the triangle. You can observe here that there is the outer portion also. In this outer portion, I'm going to draw
the small circles. These circles are
not very small. These are very much visible, and these will hold the
design very beautifully. In the following ring, I have made a pattern of
small thin leaves in it. These leaves can be of different types and
different shapes. But for this mandala, I have chosen this one only. As you can observe here, I have erased it and
then made it again. I have done so because the
last leaf was not in the sink. The distance between the leaves was not equal when
I made it first, so I have shifted a few and then got the equal
distance between them. So the direction
was not perfect. That is why I have to
erase it and remake it. You can also do the corrections
whenever it feels like. And in the last ring,
I have simply made a few lines and covered the whole ring
with these lines only. And later on, I'll do
some details into it, so that will be the next part.
6. Outlining the Mandala: Now in this lesson, we are going to outline the mandala for outlining
what we have drawn. I'm using a bleck sketch pen. As you can observe here
that the thickness of sketch pen is not very much. It is very thin pen, and you can choose the medium
of outlining yourself. If you are going to work in painting color, medium,
painting colors, poster colors, crayons, then choose the medium and the
art supplies accordingly. I have seen many people drawing the circles with compass only. But if your medium of art
is not just sketch pen, it is some other kind
of a pen or brush pen, then this will not be
supported with your compass. That is why I have used the normal pen also with
free hand outlining. I'm not showing the steps to go for outlining using the compass. You can surely do that if
you are very much sure about your art mediums and you
have practiced that enough. And after outlining the circles, we have to outline
each and every design also that we have made
between the circles. And while outlining
these drawings, we just have to take care
that whenever you draw, you have to overlap
your pen exactly on the pencil marks
because these are very much measured drawings. These are not free
hand drawings, so you have to be
very careful while outlining each and every stroke should overlap the pencil marks. And there should
be neat outline, not with the shaky hands. You have to keep your hands
stiff and then outline. If you want, you
can keep rotating your sheet while
outlining because I have seen many
artists saying that do not move your canvas
while working on it. Keep it in one direction and then go for the whole art piece. But I always suggest my students to rotate the canvas if they are in need to because moving your hands freely and
in a proper direction, I believe there is a need move the canvas more than your hands. So that is what I suggest. But if you believe
that you can do the outlining without moving the compass and without
moving the cannabs, that is purely up to you. One more thing I would
like to add that I have outlined the whole mandala using one single
color that is black. But if you want, you
can change the colors. You can do variations
as per your art skills, as per your experience, as per your choices, and as per your needs. But I like to outline
the whole mandala using only one pen and one
color only that is black. Yes, you can do one
more thing that if you don't want to use
black in your mandala, you can go for some other color, but outline the whole mandala
with one single color. Because you are going to
fill a lot of colors inside. So if you are going to outline
with different colors, I believe that will
not look good. But if you are experienced enough to choose colors to play with colors and you are
sure enough, you can do so. We are now done
with the outlining. Let's move to the next lesson to go for coloring part
of this mandala.
7. Adding colours: We are done with the
basic outlining. In this lesson, we are going to start by filling the
colors into the mandala. For coloring, I'm
using brush pens. You can use any other
medium if you wish to. I'm using brushpins to fill in the colors in
the whole mandala. You can also mix the medium
with which you want to work. If you feel you are comfortable with crayons, go with crayons. If you are comfortable with
pencil colors or sketch pens, you can go with that because
many of artists I have seen that if they're outlining the mandala
with sketchpen, they are filling in the
colors with sketchpen. They are trying to use
the similar medium which they have used to
outline the drawing. So if you are that artist, you can go for that also. To fill the color in the outermost circle
in the outermost ring, I have used a pattern in which I'm repeating the colors
after a few boxes. I have used five different
colors for this pattern. If you want, you can
increase the number of colors or you may decrease
the number of colors. That is, you can
go for two, three, or even one color
that is up to you, but I want to
create this mandala with the colorful wipes, so I have used five colors. We are now done with
the outermost ring. It is time to go for the
second outermost ring. It means our second ring
from the outer side. For this, I'm going
to use two colors. First one will be the base color that is outside the leaf area. For this, I'm using
yellow brushpin. You may use pink also because this will also give a brighter
look as a background. After coloring the
base with yellow, I'm now using green colour. This is light green to fill
into the leaf structure. For this, you may also use purple because that I have
used in many mandalas, and it looks very beautiful when I go with purple and
yellow combination. Here I'm using green. You can use purple also. After completing the
second outermost layer, let us move to the next layer. In this layer, I have
used red colour to fill in all the circles
that we have made. Also, in the innermost circle, I have filled red colour. Beginning from the inner circle, I'm coloring all the petals
with light blue color. As I have used this light blue in the outermost circle also. This creates a balanced
look in the mandana. You may use any other
color that we have used in the outermost layer
to create the balance. But out of all those colors that I have used on
the outermost ring, I found the blue to be the most vibrant and
most bright color. I'm using blue in the innermost circle to fill into the petals
of the flower. While filling in this color, you have to take care of
all the boundaries and all the outlines that you have
made using the black pen. Because if you are
going to overlap that, it will hide the structure of flour and this will
not look good. Moving on to the next layer, creating a base color
with baby pink color. Using a dull color in between two bright colors create a balanced
look of the mandala. If you are going to use all
the loud colors altogether, the mandala will not
be able to define itself and will not look good. While coloring the base here, be sure that your color
never overlaps the design that you have made using the
circle and the triangles. Overlapping the design
means the change in color. If it is changed from one side and not changed
on the other side, this will create an
imbalanced look. For the base color of
flower petals using red. Also creating a similar shade. I have filed the lines in the triangle using
the red color. The base was red and waby pink, so it mix as well for the inner part of the
triangle that was left, it is yellow color, creating a balance again between the second outermost
layer and the next one. Basic coloring is done. Let's jump to the next
lesson to add some details.
8. Adding Details: We are done with
the coloring part. In this lesson, we're going to add details to our mandala. The mandala is already
very colorful, so I'm using black color to outline and to add
details to it. For adding details, I'm using
black pen, the normal pen. You can use any other pen
also and any other color also according to your choice and the mandala color combination
that you have made. I have drawn small
straight lines free hand on the outermost
circle of the mandala. This will provide a simple base to it and we'll add
some depth to it. On these lines, we are going
to add some small dots. These dots are very small and are visible only if
you watch it closely. You can also add one
more line after this, but I'm not doing so because I feel that the baseline
of this mandala that we have colored green is very much in the sync with the
water that we have made. Keep in mind that you can always rotate your canvas or the sheet on which you are
drawing according to the adjustments you have
to make for your hands. This will improve the
mobility and will make it easier for you to draw
the designs as desired. Now for the hangings of it, I'm drawing curvy lines from the base of it towards
the downwards. As you can notice here, these lines are alternate,
smaller and greater. One is greater and then
the other is smaller. Starting with the greatest one, we are going to draw
this leaf life structure and put lines into it. Repeating the process of
drawing these kind of leaves in the inner lines also according to their
heights and length. Some hangings are
longer than the other, and some are very small. On the smaller lines that we
have made, the curvy lines, and making the
leaves that are very simple and without
any lines in it. Only the hangings
that are taller and longer are getting some
great details into them. Keep adding these leaf
like structures to all the lines and make
the mandala complete. You can notice here that
all the hangings are not of scene length and are hanging according to the
space available to them. Once done, let's add small
dots under the small leaves. Adding small lines under
the greater leaves. Now, let's fill in
the black color in all the blank leaves that were
without any lines in them. These leaves are very small. You can colour them
with various colors, but I'm using only black colour
because I want to give it a balance between colorful
mandala and black hangings. After that, it is time to add details into the colored
part of the mandala. For this, I'm adding lines
using the black pen only. Add lines and dots according to the
symmetry of the mandala. In the leaf like structure also, I'm adding small lines to add its into that particular
layer of the mandala. Now comes the turn of the most colorful ring of this mandala, the
outermost ring. In this, we have
made colored parts, according to the color scheme, which means repeating the colors after every four or five parts. In this, I'm simply adding small lines
using the black pen. These lines are
not very thin and are made using repeated
structures on it. And each and every repeated stroke makes the line thicker and hence enhances the beauty
of this mandala. In the second most outer layer, adding big dots on the yellow part adds more
grease to the mandala. If your design is
a bit different from what we have
drawn in this class, then you may go for the detailing
part according to that. You may change or interchange
the designs accordingly. This is how our
first mandala looks. I hope you like it and I would love to see
your variations also keep watching and move to the next mandala
in the next lesson.
9. Material Required for Second Mandala: Welcome back. The material required for the
second mandala is the basic sheet here because I'm drawing it on a small sheet. A compass, along
with the compass, you need to carry a small pencil and one black sketch pen. If you want to make it colorful, you can carry other
color sketchpens and also the colored pens that I showed you in the
previous mandala also. But as I have said,
I'm going to make this mandala a black
and white mandala. The materials are
again your choice. Oh
10. Drawing the Base: Hello, everyone. In this lesson, we are going to start with drawing the
base of the mandala. For this, I'm not
using a small pencil. If you want, you can use pencil along with compass
to draw all the circles. But here, as I'm going to use
the medium of a sketch pen, I will use the sketch pen
directly to draw the circles. For this, select
the center point of the sheet and then start
making the circles. The circles may be of various radiuses according to your design and requirement. Make sure that you draw it very carefully and your compass must not be loose because if you are using the
sketch pen directly, you will not be able to erase it and this can
ruin your drawings. A pro tip here that
if you find it difficult to move your compass
rather than the sheet, you can do the opposite. You can move the sheet and
keep your compass steady. You simply have to keep on
increasing the gap between the metallic tip and the tip of the sketchpen to draw
the concentric circles. You can notice the
design that I have made the rings in
pair so that we get a broad and a thin layer between them
to make the designs. You simply have to
increase the distance between both the tips and rotate the paper
very carefully. Make sure that your metallic tip do not lose its center point, but it should not even
tear up the sheet. Our basic mandala base is ready. Let us move to the
next lesson to see what designs
we can add to it.
11. Designing it Up!!: Welcome back. In this lesson, we are going to
design the mandala. We are already ready with
the base of the mandala, so we are going to add
the design directly. I am using pencil
to draw the design, and later on, I
will outline this. If you are very confident and you have practiced
enough mandalas, you can go with the designing directly using the sketch pen or any colored pen as per
your requirement and desires. For designing, I have made four leaf like structure in the middle part
of the mandala. You can always vary the designs. You can select the
design that I have made in the first ring to be drawn in the second one and
the design I draw for the second one to be
drawn on the fourth ring. The sequence may be yours, but you can try to learn the designs that we can
create between the rings. The gap between
the two circles is known as rings in mandalas. Try to draw with a pencil very lightly so that if you find that the design you are making and creating have something left
in the last part of it, you can always erase
it and do it again. For the third ring, I'm drawing the triangle
like structure. You can notice here that I have made only the lines
using the pencil. I'm not using any ruler for it. If you want, you
can use the ruler, but my suggestion is not to
use it because the circle, the ring is not very big
firstly and secondly, you have to make the
triangle in the curved area, it might be difficult for
you if you use the ruler. For the next string, I'm making
the open leaf structure. The structure is
known as open leaf or you can also say it is
a dome like structure. The structure is very simple to make and is very beautiful. You can see here that I'm
making the structures only and we will add the
details to them later. You can add details
right now also, but I prefer to do it after creating the
designs completely. You can always mix and match the designs to
create the new one. For creating the new designs, you can mix the first ring to the third ring and the third ring to the
second ring also. For the next string, I'm making the design
that is spiral in shape. These are small spirals that are created to create the
layer of the mandala. Sometimes it happens
that when you draw, you start with a different
shape and keep on drawing, you get a different shape. Your hands automatically finds. What is the design
going in the direction? As you can see here, I have started with a
different spiral and later on my hands go set on
some other spiral. These spiral are leaf and
then a spiral lined into it. I might going to delete
the first two spirals or maybe the three spirals to
make the design in symmetry. A pro tip here that I would like to add is that if you find it difficult to move your hands and keep the canvas steady
to draw the mandala, you can do the opposite. You can keep your
hands in one direction according to your
hands and comfort and keep on moving the sheet as per your requirements
so that you are not supposed to move here
and there just to draw the lines and designs
in some other ring. You can observe here that if
the ring is small in size, it gets less time to
complete the ring, but as slowly and gradually we move towards
the outermost ring, we find that as the
size of ring increases, we take more time to
get the ring complete. This is possibly the reason that most of the mandalas carry the broadened designs on
the outermost layers so that it takes a less
amount of energy and time and creates a
beautiful symmetry as it shows that the mandala
is complete and is flattering and there are many
meanings of every mandala. You can relate your designs to those meanings as
per your design. As you are working
with the pencil on a plain white sheet, it can be opt for
you that you can use a cloth or a hanky to place under your palm so that your
sheet will not get dirty as you are touching
the pencil area again and again that you have
used on the sheet. Now, as you can see here, the last design was
not proper at the end, so I've erased a few of them and then drawing
it again with a compact manner so that also the last one gets the full space and gets
in a proper symmetry. This is how we do it all. This was a basic design. Let's move to the next lesson
to outline and for details.
12. Let's Outline Now: Welcome back. Till
now in this Mandala, we have done the designing. In this lesson, we are going
to start with the outlining. For outlining, I'm
using black sketch pen. You can also use any other
colored sketch pin or maybe any other kind of pen that you feel that you are going
to use the medium matches it. As you all know, outlining is basic and we are doing
the same technique here. Tracing all the pencil marks that we have made using the pen. Here it is sketch pen, and whatever pen you are using, be confident while using it. You have to overlap the pen
over the pencil exactly. I have firstly outlined
the innermost circle. This helps to move
in a sequence, as if we are going to outline
the outermost circle first, it will ruin our painting
as our hands will move on it again and again to do the outlining process
of inner circles. So it is better to start
from inside towards outside. Now in the innermost ring, I have outlined the all four
petals that we have made. And after that, in
the background, I am using the same pen
to color the spaces. You can use any other colors also to make it a
colorful mandala. But in this lesson, I am
focusing more and more on a black and white mandala as the previous one was
already a colored mandala. One thing that I would like to add here is that while creating a black
and white mandala, you have to cover all the spaces that you are
coloring with black. In the black color part, if you leave any
point or any space that is uncolred or is
not colored properly, this will ruin the look
of the whole mandala as there are only two colors that are being introduced
to the mandala, they should be filled properly. As you can see here, I'm adding details
also while outlining. This is also a step that you can perform in this step only. In the previous lesson, I have not created any
details because I was very much sure that I'm going to add them while outlining. So if you want, you can
add them before outlining. But here I suggest you to go for outlining first and then
create patterns into it. This will help you to analyze
the space that we have for designs and the kind of designs that will
suit on those spaces. In the second ring also you have analyzed that
I have created the shapes and outlined
them in those shapes, I have added the details of
one line and a dot over it. In the background also, I'm adding black color to make it look a very
thick mandala. Also, I'm trying to give
it some depth that can easily be done by adding black
color into the background. One has to be very
careful and do it very slowly while doing the outlining because
while outlining, you do a step that
cannot be reversed. If you make any mistake
while outlining, it will be very difficult for you to change the whole design. Yes, you can do
the modifications, but the result
will be changed as per your imaginations
and desires. I suggest you to be very patient and relaxed
while outlining them. Keep adding the details as
you outline layer by layer. Add details layer by layer as you are
progressing to outline. As you can see here,
in this third ring, I have outlined the
lines that we have made the triangular shape
with and later on, I'm adding some
straight lines into it, turning it into a
detailing part. These lines are not
drawn with any ruler. These are free hand designs, but in case you have made the outer lines with
the help of rulers, you can go with the inner lines with the help of ruler itself. Here I have drawn the
outlines free hand, so I'm going with the inner
lines free hand only. Now for the background part, I have drawn the same lines, but in the opposite direction, if you observe the
inner lines were in one direction and the outer
lines in the other direction, both are in the
opposite direction as compared to each other. Parallel and
consecutive lines is the second way to add
depth to your designs. W. Be very careful while
drawing these lines and be careful about the distance
between the two lines. It is fine if you miss a
distance between them, but do not go for a heavy
difference between those lines. My regular students who know me well and who have attended
most of my classes may know that I always say
it is not compulsory for you to keep your cannabis study and you keep rotating around it. It is fine if you want to rotate your cannas
while working on it. So here also, I'm rotating my canvas to work on
it, and for mandalas, it is very important
that your hands should match the angle in
which you have to draw. With these lines, our next
ring is also complete. And here, if you can see, I have prepared the
next layer also. In the next layer, I
have simply outlined it and added three lines
into every dome like structure or we can say
half dome like structure or adding dots at the background
may be optional for you. If you want to add
depth here also, you can colour the background, but I was okay with
this much depth, so I've added
circles at the back. Oh For the next layer, I'm simply outlining
all the spirals that we have made and I'm doing it very
carefully so that we overlap each and
every pencil mark. I don't want to
erase them later. If you have some pencil
marks still left, you can use the eraser depends upon the kind of pen
that you have used here. I'm using sketch pen that dries up easily within a few seconds, so it won't be a big deal
for me if I use eraser here. Check your medium on a rough paper first and
then go for eraser over it. Now, as I have said, I'm using the resort to remove all the pencil marks
from the mantala. Make sure to remove
all the sort dust from your sheets before starting
with the next outlining part. Now outlining the outermost ring where we have drawn half
dome like structures. These are the
pointed structures, so make sure that all the
structures are pointed here. We are going to add
details into it using the old space fillers that we have learned
in various classes. So let us move to those
space fillers now. Now for the inner
details and designs, I am outlining and
giving it some depth. Here I'm creating the same kind of dome like structure into all the domes that we have created to give
it a great depth. As these domes are
very big in size, so we are going to add
multiple details into it. For the innermost part, I am adding a big petal here
and then two small petals on either side of it to make it look like a complete design. Repeat the same three
petal design in all the dome like structures to make it a symmetric pattern. Try to keep your hand steady and try to maintain the
symmetry in the design. The mandalas are all
about symmetry and the symmetrical designs
that we make inside them. To complete this leaf
like structure design, I'm adding background as
black color in these petals. This is completely optional, but it looks very
beautiful if you do so. Simply keep rotating
the sheet and make your angle steady to
do the designing. You must have observed here that greater the size of ring, it takes more time
to complete it because there is great
designing in the bigger ring, and in the smaller ring, it takes less time
than the bigger ring. So always try to inculcate
the big designs in the outside most rings
so that you will get more designs and the
patterns that you can inculcate in those
designs to make it a beautiful mixture of designs. As you can see in
the outermost layer, I have also mixed two and three designs to
make it look more pretty. That is why it is a
layer, thick ring also, so that I can make a design that is a mixture of
two or three designs. This helps us to give
detailings better in mandalas. As I have already added the black background with
a three leaf structure, I'm adding three
line structure in the outside of this dome like structure to
complete the design. Basic detailings and
designing are now complete. Let us move to the next
lesson for more detailing.
13. Final Detailings: Welcome back. So, guys, this is the last step
for this mandala, the final detailing spa. In this part, we are going to
add details in those areas where we feel that there
can be added some design, but we cannot go for heavy
designs in those lines. For this, I'm using a thin point pen that is of
similar color that is black. You can use any other color also to highlight these designs, but here, I'm focusing more and more on black
and white mandala. That is why I'm
using a black pen. This pen is of less thickness as compared to the
sketch pen that I have used. That is the reason I'm using
this between the rings. While adding design to
such kind of rings, we always try to get
the design minimal. Here, I'm adding one
line with a dot, and again, repeating the texture and the pattern in
the whole ring. I'm repeating the same
texture and pattern in the next ring also that was in between the
two thick rings. Repeating the same design in
these rings also to maintain the symmetry and to fill the blank spaces that
we have in Amandala. Now I'm again using black sketchpen to fill the background color
here in this ring. As you can see here,
the space that I have to fill is not very thin. That is the reason I'm using
this sketch pen again. If the space was very less, I would have used the
black pen itself. But the space is ample. That is why I'm using sketchpen. This also helps us to maintain the symmetry of depth
that we have created. In every ring, we have
created depth using the sketch pen and we are using the sketchpen here also
to maintain the symmetry. We are simply adding
the background in all the spirals that we have made to complete the ring
in a proper symmetry. To create a better
illusion of depth, we are adding the background of black color on the top
of this spiral also. This will help us to
maintain the symmetry, as well as we'll give a
balanced look to our mandala. In black and white mandalas, it is very important for us to maintain the
balance and to keep the balance between white and black color
in the whole mandala. If we are going to pour
so much of black color, the white color will
lose it grace and if you are going to add
only white and not black, this will also not look good. I know the process
is time taking, so be patient while doing it. Slowly and gradually
keep rotating the sheet and keep filling
the colour in the background. So here is the final look
of our second mandala. Isn't this mandala
looking so beautiful? Now is the time to jump to the next lesson to start
with the third mandala.
14. Project Work: So, guys, here is
your project work. For this class, you have
learned so many Mandalas, along with so many designs
that have been taught to you. So now it's your turn to
show what you have learned. Draw a mandala using
all the skills, all the material, all the designs that you
have learned in this class, and along with that, add your creativity to it, add more colors or maybe
do it in black and white, whatever kind of mandala
you want to draw. If you want to draw it in some other shape rather than
circle, that is your choice. I have taught that
also in this class. So it is up to you what kind of mandala you want to create. Just create one mandala,
click its picture, and upload the picture in project and resource
section of this class. This was all for
the project work. I encourage you all to
review my class so that I can make my future classes
based upon those reviews. If you have any doubt, any discussion to post, please go to the
discussion section of this class and post it there. I will try to reply
as soon as possible. I also encourage you to follow my profile so that you can
get a greater notification, a brighter notification every
time I post a new class. If you have any
suggestion to post that you want to learn
something else from my classes, something else from
me, you can send me the message directly
into the Instagram box. I have shared my
ID in my profile. So this was all from my
side for this class. Hope to see you in the
review section as well as in the project section
of this class. Bye bye.
15. Material Required for Third Mandala: Let us now talk
about the material we require for third mandala. For this, I'm not using a sheet. I'm using my drawing file. You can see that this
is spiral drawing file, so I'll be drawing a
line here to separate the spiral part from the
sheet so that in future, if I want to remove the
spiral part from it, it will be easy for me. Moving ahead, I would also require a compass
and a pencil that is suitable according
to the length of the compass because the length
of pencil matters a lot. If it is going to be
larger than the compass, it will be difficult for me to rotate the compass on file. Now, I will also require
a simple pencil, using which I'll
be adding design to the mandala that
we are going to draw. I'm also going to use a certain kind of a pen
that is Nibali pen. These are available in
four different colors, green, blue, black and red. I will be using
this black UIBLiPen in my mandala to give it a glow. In our previous mandala, I used black sketchpen, but in this, I will
use black UNIbLiPen. You will see the difference
yourself while working on it. If you find it difficult
to find the unival pens, you can also go for this option. If you want to use
colorful pens, that is very much welcomed in
this class because you are just learning the patterns and the point how to
draw the mandala. Also, if not pens, you can go with
the color pencils. That is also a great option. This was all about the
material that I'm going to use and the material that you can use according
to your mandala. Let's move on to the next
lesson to go for the mandala.
16. Let's start with Third Mandala: Okay, so now let us
start with Herd Mandala. Here, as you can see,
I have already drawn the margin line that I talked
about in the last lesson. After that, you have to take the compass and find
out the center coin. For this, you can also use the ruler if you want
exact measurements. But here I'm working
with approximations. Open the compass from one side and keep the needdle
of the compass steady. Make the circle and
then only increase the distance between
the pencil tip and the compass tip by moving
the pencil side only. You have to keep the metal tip steady and fixed on one
point for one mandala. Having more than one points on one sheet shows that you have
created that much mandalas, as many points as
you have taken. For example, in this mandala, I'm taking only one point. So all these circles are part
of this one mandala only. After this mandala, I'll be
changing the center point. I will be shifting the
center point by shifting the metal tip of
the compass that shows that this is going
to be the next mandala. Till then it is only
the first mandala and I'm only increasing the distance between
the two tips and making circles accordingly. You can also rotate your
sheet while drawing the circles if you are not comfortable by
rotating your compass. You can notice here that it is a half mandala that we
have drawn earlier also. Also, I'm drawing it in a very
symmetric pattern that is two lines are close and then line that is apart
from the previous one. For these kind of mandalas for circles shows that
it is one mandala only. Now, after this, I'm changing, I'm shifting the center point
and making another mandala. This is my second mandala now. In this first sheet only, it means I'm combining
two mandalas. So you can also combine as
many mandalas as you want. Here, I'm trying to
combine three mandalas, so I'll be having
three center points. I will shift the compass
twice to get three mandalas. Now, you can choose in which direction you want to go with these mandalas
because here, I'm going in just one direction, but you can make the mandalas
in various directions. You can go for one
mandala that is half visible and one that
is one fourth visible only. So that is your choice, what proportion of mandala
you want to show you want to reveal and what portion of mandala you don't
want to reveal? What portion you want to draw and which portion you
don't want to draw? It is totally up to you in which direction you want to
show it, that is up to you. You can notice that the distance
between the two rings is not constant here as I am
not drawing using the ruler, I'm not measuring
the distance between the two rings, using the ruler. I'm just going with
the approximations and I'm drawing according to the design that I
have in my mind. Now, after the second
mandala template, we are moving to the third one. For third one, I have shifted the center point to the last
ring of the second mandala, and we are trying to move
in a certain pattern. So I'm adjusting the
distance between the pencil tip and the metallic tip of the
compass accordingly. Firstly, I'm measuring
the distance that I have taken for
second mandala from the first mandala so
that I get a rough idea for how much distance I need to cover for
my third mandala. You can also do the same
by using the ruler. But here, I have to
take a rough idea, so I have using the pencil only. Making rings or we can see the concentric circles by
adjusting the distance between the two and simply moving the compass
step onto the sheet. So now this completes
the base of the mandala on which we
are going to add designs. So let us now move on
to the next list and to see what designs we
can add to these things.
17. Adding designs to Mandala - Part 1: Hello, everyone. Welcome back. Now in this lesson, we are going to start with
designing of third mandala. For this, I'm starting with the center ring of
the biggest mandala. In this center ring,
I have decided to draw a flower of lotus, along with all the
petals around it. Let us draw the lotus flower. Be patient and draw
it leaf by leaf. Sometimes it happens when we are drawing on the left side, we find it difficult to draw as we always draw
from our right hand. For those who are using
their left hand to draw, they always find it difficult
to draw on the right side. So this is very natural and
for healing this process, you can get your
erasers ready and erase whenever you feel that both sides
are not symmetric. As you can see here,
I found that this petal is a bit thicker
than what I require, so I'm putting a line in between and erasing
the extra part. I also feel that there is some space into which we
can add one more leaf. So I'm adding one more
leaf on both the sides. Moving on to the next ring, I'm going to draw the
dome like structures in the whole ring and then put
multiple designs into it. As you can see here, I
have keep this ring thick according to what we have
done in earlier mandalas. So as the ring is thick, we can add so many
designs in just one ring. You always have to keep in
mind that when at the last, if you are drawing a design
and it is half used, then it is fine. There is no need to complete it. I do half then use the half of the design to complete to
give it a symmetric look. After this, we have just
placed a circle in between. Here, I feel that the first dome like structure that we have drawn
was not appropriate, so I'm just going to correct
it and draw it once again. If sometimes you also find
your mistakes and find the design that is not
symmetric as for your mandala, go ahead, use erasers
and do the corrections. Drawing these
longitudinal lobes in between the two dome
like structures. Draw small circles on either side of the lobes
that we have drawn. Also, small circles in between the big circles that were drawn inside the dome
like structures. Moving ahead to the next ring, I'm drawing straight lines that will represent a
triangular like structure. For this, you can
use a ruler also. But if you are confident enough to draw straight
lines without ruler, do it without ruler. Also, if you find
it difficult to draw in one direction only, you can always move
your canvas or rotate your sheets according to the angle of your fingers. Now is the time to add
design between these lines. For this, I'm drawing this
curved triangular shape here that is inculcated in between the triangles that
we have drawn earlier. After this, we are
going to complete this and move in to the
triangular shape. Now, let us draw inside
the triangular shape. Here also we are
going to make tip to tip that is triangle
inside a triangle. Triangles that we are drawing inside these triangles are also the curved ones as we have
done on the outside of it. Now on the triangles that we have drawn on the outer side, we have to draw a
three leaf structure. Here we are putting one lobe in the center and two on
either side of it. Here I find that the second one is smaller than the first one, so I'm erasing the first
one and correcting it. You also can do the
corrections as per your requirements and
as per your desires. Drawing this three
leaf structure in all the triangles that we
have drawn on the outer side. A We have to keep in mind that at
the cornum of design, we have to draw the designs
as per our requirements. Now, as per our
requirements of design, we are adding these
three lobe structure in the inside of
the triangles also. So rotate your
sheet and draw more and more of these to
complete the design. After this, you have to draw a simple small line in all the
leaves that we have drawn. Further, let's move
to the next ring. In the next ring, we simply
have to draw these kind of curves that we have already drawn in the previous
mandalas also. The only difference here is the width of this ring
is very much larger, very much greater than what we had in our previous mandalas. So this time, the design will
be in a longitudinal form. Earlier, I told you that if
you have a broader ring, then you should go for the
designs that cannot be made in these smaller
thin circles. But this time I'm
doing the opposite. I'm drawing the design
that we have drawn that we have learned for thin rings, but here it is a thick ring and still I'm drawing the
design because I want to show you different methods from which we can
create mandalas. Also, you should notice the difference when it
was in the smaller ring, how the design turned out to be, and now it is between
the broader ring, how the design will now look. You have to analyze
the difference, analyze the difference
in its result, and then use the designs
wisely in your own mandalas. As the resign was
for the thin ring, this will take time when you are going to put it in
a broader ring. So keep calm and then
do the mandala process.
18. Adding designs to Mandala - Part 2: Our first mandala
of this is done. Let's move to the next mandala. For this, I'm starting with the center point of this
mandala and trying to occupy the first ring in this ring and drawing
this leaf like structure, which will represent a simple
different kind of a flower. So you can also draw or copy the flour that you have made in the first mandala
that was lotus. But I want to try out something else in
the second mandala. That is why I'm putting
a different design. Now the design that I'm
making in this second ring of second mandala is
similar to what we have drawn in the last mandala. Here you can analyze
the difference. That time, it was a broad ring, and now it is a thin ring. Now in this thin ring, the design is same, but it turns out to be a different when we
see it as a oi. Moving ahead to the
next ring here, I'm drawing a design
that is not so common. It is different, and
we have not used it yet in all the three mandalas
that we have done till now. So this one is a bit different. It is a kind of D with
not a straight line. That D line is also curved. So something like that, it is. Now, there's going to be a
combination of two designs. I'm drawing this triangle
like structure in between all these D designs to make it a combination of two
designs in one ring. O Moving ahead to the next ring, I'm drawing these curvy lines one after the another
in one direction only. Right now I'm doing
it in one direction, but after drawing a few lines, I'll turn the direction
into other side. And now you can see
after turning it, it turns out to be
a beautiful design. Now, switching the side
to the other direction, and then we are going to
repeat the process one after the another drawing the curve line in
same direction, but changing the direction
after drawing a few lines. Note here that all the lines
are in sync with each other but not following the same wave that the other
line was drawn in. Keep rotating the canvas or
the drawing foil according to your angle of pencil
and your comfort. I have drawn these lines
very close to each other, but if you want to
draw them apart, you can also decide the
distance between the two lines. This ring is also complete. Let's move on to the next one. Here it is a proper dome. It is not just a leafy dome, but it is a proper dome like structure with curved
lines over it. So cover this whole ring
using the same design and try to make it as
symmetric as possible. As you can observe here, the starting dome was a bit broader than what we
have drawn at the rest. So I'm just erasing it and doing some corrections to make it
perfect and balanced mandala. In this structure also, we are going to add
so many designs in just one ring to make
it a beautiful mandala. Here you can notice I'm adding
two lines on the top of the domes to make it look like combination of five
or six designs. Mandalas are all
about meditation, so I hope you all are enjoying and meditating along with
the process of drawing it. Now, drawing two
leaves in each dome to add more and
more details to it. The leaves that I'm drawing
are really small in size. If you want, you can also
increase the size of the leaf and join it to the
circular lines that we have. As we have space left between the two dome
like structures, we are adding leaves to
it from the upper side, moving to the lower side. But if you want, you
can add circles, triangles, or maybe
squares here. That is up to you.
I'm just filling up the space here, that is left. I'm adding leaves because we have added the design
of leaf in it, so matching will be done
using the same designs. Heading towards
the next mandala, the third mandala of
this mandala drawing, I'm simply adding
these straight lines from the center point
to the first ring. Here, I'm not adding these
lines using the ruler. I'm drawing them freehand. If you are also
confident enough to draw straight lines without
using a ruler, go ahead and draw them. Also, you can see here, I have not maintained the perfect distance between the two lines, but if you want, you can mark some points
for this or you may also go for the approximations as
I am done in this mandala. Also, let's moving
on to the next ring. I'm simply drawing this chain like structure, Rhombus chain. The shape is Rhombus.
For this Rhombus chain, you can also add
the square chain or maybe a triangular chain, but we have not added the
Rhombus anywhere till now, so I'm adding a
Rhombus chain here. Moving ahead to the next ring, I'm adding a four
petal flow here. This flower is very much
similar to the petals of what we have drawn at the
center of second mandala. You can take a
reference from there and design the same
kind of a flower. Here I'm drawing it
a four petal flower. You can go for six
petals and eight petals also depending upon the
width of your ring. Here, the width is very good. So I'm adding two flowers but not of more
than four petals. If you want to modify, you can add big flowers, having six or eight or 12 petals maybe and turn these two
flowers into one flower. You can arrange the
flowers according to the size of flour and
the size offering. Moving ahead to the last ring of this last mandala of this class, I'm simply adding
spirals at some gap. You may note here that there is a gap between two spirals. These spirals are not
combined to each other. If you want to do the
combined pattern that we have learned earlier in
previous to previous mandala, you can go for the
same design also, but I'm here to show you
the variety of designs that you can learn and
create mandala with. So here I am with a new design, spirals with a gap between them. To maintain the proper distance, you can also put center marks in these rings before
drawing the spirals. You can also count the number
of spins that you have to put in the spiral if you want
it to be more symmetric. Here I'm working with
approximations because I find it very much easy for me if I work with approximations
in mandala. This completes all
the three mandalas of this greater mandala, let's outline in
the next lesson. Oh.
19. Let's Outline... And add details!: Welcome back. In this lesson, we are going to outline our third mandala that we
have created till now. To outline this, I'm
using NIBLblackPen. You can also use a sketch pen if your design that
you have placed in the mandala rings is
thick enough that it can handle the details
using the sketch pen. I'm using UNIbLPen because
I want it to be very gluey. If you compare our previous
mandala to this mandala, you will get to
know the difference between the outlining with sketchpen and outlining
with the Nibal pen. Whenever we outline
using this sketch pen, when it dries, it becomes
a dull part of it. When we talk about black color, it must be shiny when you are going with
much details into it. If this is not about details, it about filling color in it, then you can go with
the sketch pen, and if your details
are not very thin, you can use a thick sketch pen. If we talk about our
first ring, here, I have outlined it
very carefully that all my pen marks are over
the pencil marks only. While outlining, I have also added some details that
you can notice here. In the center petal, I have drawn dotted lines, and in the rest of the petals, I have drawn two lines each. This shows the
highlighting and detailing part of the flower that we
have drawn in the center. Talking about the background
black color. For this, also, I am using
black unival pen to fill all the blank space that we have between the petals
and the ring space. If you are working on
a colorful mandala, you can add the background
using any other color also. For example, you can
go with dark purple, dark brown, dark green also. This depends upon the colour that you are using
for outlining, adding details, and the color with which you are drawing
the rings of the mandala. As I'm drawing a black
and white mandala, I'm using the black color for
the background for drawing, for detailing and
for outlining also. To outline the straight line, we can use a ruler also here, but I have drawn it free hand. If you are confident enough, draw the lines free hand by placing your pen over
the pencil marks only. The best part about
mandala is you can add details as much as you can
and as much as you want. I am here adding
details according to the space availability
in the Mandala designs. If I have a very less space, I'm covering it using dots
or maybe some small lines. If I have more space, I'm using it to drawing
another kind of lines, maybe two, maybe three or maybe coloring the background
to give it a depth. If you try to analyze here, if your inner design
is not very much heavy and is not colored much, is not filled much
using the black pen, you can go with a
black background. But if you are using the black color in
the design itself, as I have done in
the second ring, then you are supposed not to add black color
as a background. Rather, you can use this as the space between the two
rings to fill black colour. While outlining the
rings of the mandala, you can use a compass, also, but here, I'm not using compass. I'm drawing it over the pencil
marks slowly and steady. Try not to move
out of the rings, but if your pen slightly
moves inside or outside, you can cover it by using the technique of adding the black color in
that whole ring. If the ring space is less, this is the best technique to practice and make your
mandalas more attractive. Here also, you can
notice that I have added lines and dots to cover the distance and the space or area we can say
between the rings. Here also in the dome
like structures, I'm placing so many dots
to add details into it. This is a part of
detailing that we have not done during drawing
of the mandala. These detailings are
kind of soul of mandala that helps us to decorate our mandala in the
most beautiful manner. You yourself can also analyze the difference after
adding the details. Moving ahead on the third ring, I'm adding black
color over the pencil to draw all the triangles
that we have drawn. With these triangles, we have drawn three
leaves inside it, and to add details, I'm adding lines to
those three leaves. You can also add some
design in the rest of the space of the triangle
that has been drawn. You just have to be very
careful while outlining. Also, if you've missed some outline or you
extra outline something, make sure to draw that extra outline on every
triangle to balance it out. As the design inside
this ring was not very heavy and was not containing
much of black color into it, and adding black
as its background. To add this as a background, I'm simply adding
black colour in all the space that has been
spread between the triangles. All the triangles are
looking really, beautiful, and you can see
the difference of a sketch pen and a
Nibalblack pen here. The shine, the grace, and the outcome of this NIBal pen is much better than what we have
from the sketch pen. Yes, outlining with a pen takes more time
than a sketch pen. So if you are someone who
is starting with mandalas, you can go with more and
more of sketch pens. But if you are practice
enough and you want to improve and improve
in mandala drawings, you can work with
UnibLipens for sure. These NIB iPens are
available in many colors. So if you want, you can use other colors also
having the same texture. Also, if you are someone who is just starting
with mandalas, I suggest you to go with sketch pens as that will be
easier for you to meditate. For some people, it is difficult to draw
circles freehand, so you can also use
a compass for this. After this, as the design here also is not very
heavy from within, so we are adding
black background to it to give it a depth. Here comes the detailing part. For detailing part,
we have to add some design in the design
that we have drawn inside. For this, I'm drawing one
small dot followed by a small line that is touching the base of the mandala line. This is one of the most basic
filling designs or we can say detailing
design that we will see in most of the mandalas. Outline of our first
mandala is done. Let's move to the next one. For this, I'm starting
from the center wing. As we have very light
design in the center, we are going to add
background to it. This flower is having very, very slim petals, so it is easier for us to
fill in the background. Um, Keep on outlining all the details and designs
that we have drawn. Also, if you get some space
like here in this ring, we have very less space between
the ring and the design, so we are adding a
black background to it. Also, I have drawn
that one dot and one small line attached to
it in this design also, as this design is very much
similar to the last design. Now in this ring, we are adding more
and more triangles. Also, we can add color in
these triangles if you wish. Time to outline all
these wavy lines, make sure that you outline
them very carefully. Here in this word, you have shown a
fast forward version of this outline process. So make sure when
you outline this, you are very much confident,
very much focused, and very much attentive
towards outlining it so that you do not mix any
line to the other line, and all the pencil marks are covered properly using the pen. While outlining this
dome like structure, I'm outlining one side once,
and then the other side. I have seen many students
drawing one side first for all the domes and then
moving ahead to the next side. That is also a very good
technique to follow. It depends upon the kind of flaw that you
have in your work. Now outlining all
the small details that this design contains. Also, these small leaves are outlined and then
fill color into it. I'm adding colors into it. If you want, you can add some small lines or also
dots into these leaves. I'm also adding color in all the top two lines that
we have drawn in this term. Now, let's fill color in all those inverted
leaves in the design. As this design also does not contain much of black
color inside it, so I'm going to have this small ring with
black background. In your mandala, you are
the best church to add colors and to add background
and to add details also. As I feel that this mandala is somewhat lighter than what we have done in
our first mandala, so I'm adding more and
more background in these small thin rings that
we have made in between. There are many other
detailing parts that you can add in these rings. But here, I want it to be a proper black and white mandala that have a great
element of black in it. That is the reason I'm
adding so much black in it. Also adding colors in these small triangles that
we have drawn in this line. Let us now move to our third
mandala of this drawing. In this third one, we
are going to start from the center outlining all the
straight lines that it had. Now outlining the
cross chin process. Having very simple
and light designs here in this mandala, which allows me to add more and more black
background using these rings. Outlining these flowers also. If you want, you can
add colors into them, but here I'm not putting much
colors into these flowers. As the design inside
is also light, we are going to add color
in this small thin ring. Now, in this cross chain design, we are adding lines,
some parallel lines. These are not measured one. If you want, you can
use a ruler for this, but I want this to be a free hand design because this looks very
beautiful to me like this only. So this is your choice. Also in the rest of the part, I'm drawing small
triangles and filling color in them to make
it a good depth. After this, we are going to add color in the center most also because we find that
this is not much heavy and is not containing
much of details also. You can also add some lines
into it if you wish so. Now time to outline the outermost and the final
ring of this mandana. For this, I'm outlining
the spirals first. Keep in mind that if you are going to outline them this thin, then you will find it is
not looking so pretty, so you have to outline them multiple times to
give it a good depth. Also adding details by adding
so many dots in between. Here is the final look of our mandala that
we have prepared. This is our third
mandala and you can add more and more details
as per your choice. We'll see you in the
next lesson really soon to see what we have
for the next mandala.
