1. Introduction: Hello, everyone. This is Naguminal your crochet tutor. Today we'll be seeing how to crochet this beautiful center round placemat. It is very simple and very easy. If you know the basics of crochet, then it is a very easy place matter. Now, let's get started and see how to make this beautiful round placemat. 2. Crochet Supplies required: Let's take a look at the crochet supplies that are required for this placement. I'm using this Olivia brand yarn and today I'm using the shared medium turquoise. For this particular yarn, I'll be using a 4.5 millimeter hook. Based on the thickness of the yarn which you'll be using, you can use a different hook size. You'll be needing a pair of scissors, a tapestry needle and stitch markers. Grab your crochet supplies, let's get started. 3. Making Round 1 to Round 5: This particular place map, we'll be working in rounds, we'll start off by making a magic ring. A magic ring is ready. For round number one, we'll be working double crochets. Start off by making chain three, one, two, and three. After making three chains, I'm going to use a stitch marker and I'm going to mark my third chain over here. It'll be very easy and you won't get confused when you're going to finish this particular round. This will be considered as our first double crochet. Into this magic ring, we are going to work 17 more double crochets. So far, I have made five sets of double crochets work all the way around, and I'll meet you at the end. I have made my 17 set of double crochets. Now including this chain three over here, we'll be having a total of 18 stitches. Now we'll close of this magic ring. Now I have closed my magic ring, it's looking nice and tight. Now let's finish off this round by making a slip stitch at the top of our chain three over here. We have finished our round number one. Moving on to round number two, I'm going to start off by making chain four, one, two, three, and four. This will be counted as a double crochet, followed by a chain one. The first three will be counted as my double crochet, followed by a chain one space. Now what I'm going to do is this is my fourth chain over here over the third chain, I'm going to insert my stitch marker. We have marked chain three over there. Now what I'm going to do is moving on to my next stitch, I'm going to work a double crochet. Chain one. Now again in my next stitch, work a double crochet, then again, a chain one. So into each and every stitch, we'll be working a double crochet followed by a chain one space, and this will be the pattern for this round number two. At the end of round number two, you'll be having a total of 18 double crochets with 18 chain one space. Work all the way around, I'll meet you at the end. Now we have reached the end of our round number two, so now we are having a total of 18 sets of double crochets with 18 chain one space. Now I'm removing this stitch marker over here and insert the hook at the top of your third chain and make a slip stitch. We are done with our round number two. Moving on to round number three, start off by making chain three. This will be considered as my first double crochet. Again, mark it using a stitch marker. Now in this chain one space, I'm going to work two sets of double crochet. Now again, the top of your previous ditch, we'll be working a double crochet and in this space, we'll be working two double crochets. Now again, one more double crochet in this space. Now here we'll be working one double crochet and in the chain one space, work two sets of double crochets. This will be the pattern for our round number three. Follow the same pattern, I'll meet you at the end over here. We have reached the end of our round number three. In this round, you'll be having a total of 54 set of stitches. Remove your stitch marker and make a slip stitch in the top of your chain three over here. We are done with our round number three. Moving on to round number four, it is somewhat similar to that of Round number two with a slight difference. Start off by making chain three, one, two, and three. This will be a first double crochet. Now I'm going to insert my hook over here and I'm going to mark my chain three. So after working a chain three, work another chain. Total of four chains. This will be counted as a double crochet with a chain one space. Now we worked our four chains. In round number two, if you see, we worked in each and every stitch. We worked a double crochet with a chain one space. Here, we'll be skipping one stitch and we'll be working. Skip the next stitch and into the next one, the third one work a double crochet. Followed by a chain one. Now again, skip the next stitch and over here, work a double crochet. Again, a chain one. Now skip the next stitch and work one double crochet. And a chain one. Follow the same pattern and work all the way around. I'll meet you at the end over here. We have reached the end of our round number four. At this point, as you can see, our mat has curled up a little bit, need not worry about that. When we further move on in making our next rounds, the curl up will get flattened when we increase the number of stitches. As you can see, I have left my last stitch over here and now top of your chain three, we are going to work a slip stitch. Moving on to round number five, start by making chain three. Again, I'm using my stitch marker and I'm marking my chain three over here. Now into the chain base work two sets of double crochet. In the previous stitch work one double crochet and in this chain space work two sets of double crochets. As you can see, this is somewhat similar to that of our round number three, but it'll have a slight difference when we finish it up. Work one double crochet in each of the previous stitch and two double crochets in the chain space. Work in the same manner for this entire round and this last block, we'll do it in a different way. I'll show you when I reach here now we are at the end of our round number five. This last block is yet to be worked. Until now, I have worked two sets of double crochets in my chain space. But in this last space, I'll be working only one double crochet. In this previous stitch, as usual, you'll be working one double crochet. In this chain space, we'll be working only one double crochet. That is the only difference here. Now remove the stitch marker over here and make a slip stitch in the chain. We have made five rounds so far. A mat is looking nice and flat and the patterns coming out well, 4. Making Round 6 to Round 11: Moving on to round number six First make chain four. This will be considered as a double crochet followed by a chain one space, and now here in the third chain, mark your stitch marker. Now like we did for our round number four, we'll be skipping one stitch and into the next stitch work a double crochet. Now a chain one. Now again, skip the next ditch and into the next ditch, work a double crochet and again a chain one. Skip the next ditch and over here, work double crochet and a chain one. Follow the same pattern, I'll meet you at the end. Now we have reached our end, I have worked my double crochet a chain one, here our last ditch, we are skipping it Now here, the top of our chain three, I'll be making a slip stitch. In this round, you'll be having a total of 40 sets of stitches and 40 chain one space. Done. Moving on to round number seven. Whenever you'll be working this double crochet with a chain one space, your mat tends to curl up, need not worry regarding this. When we proceed further, it'll flatten. For round number seven, start off by making chain three. After working your chain three, we are going to market using a marker. Now into a space, I'll be working two sets of double crochet into the previous stitch, one set of double crochet. Now again in the space, work two double crochet. This will be the pattern for a round number seven and for this round into each and every chain space, we'll be working two sets of Du crochets and this will be the pattern for this particular round, work all the way around and meet you here. At the end of round number seven, you'll be having a total of 120 stitches including this chain three. Now remove this and make a slip stitch at the top of your chain three. Moving on to round number eight, we'll be working one, two, three, and four chains. This will be considered as a double crochet followed by a chain one space. Now again, at the top of your chain three, you'll insert your hook. Done Now I have marked my chain three over here. Now like we did in our previous rounds in our round four and in our round six, we'll be skipping the next ditch and into the next ditch, I'll be working a double crochet. Followed by a chain one, and again, skip one stitch and into the next ditch worker, double crochet and a chain one. Now again, skip one stitch and into the next stitch worker, double crochet and a chain one. Follow the same pattern, I'll meet you at the end. At the end of your round number eight, you'll be having a total of 60 stitches with 60 chain one space, and now I'm going to remove my stitch marker here I'm going to work my slip stitch in the top of my chain three. Round nine, we are going to follow a small difference. Like we see in our previous round, that is our round number seven, round number five, we work two sets of double crochets in our chain space. But in this particular round number nine, we'll be working only one double crochet in this chain spacer. Start off by making your chain three and this will be counted as your first double crochet. Now here I'm going to market using my stitch marker. Now into this space, work up one double crochet into your next stitch, work one double crochet and again in your chain space, work up one double crochet. This will be your pattern for our round number nine in the chain space, work only one set of double crochet. Follow the same pattern. I'll meet you at the end of my round number nine. End of round number nine, you'll be having a total of 120 sets of stitches including a chain three. Now, make a slip stitch in your top of your chain three over here. We are done with our round number nine. Moving on to round number ten, work chain four. After working four chains, top of your third chain, insert a hook. This will be considered as a double crochet with your chain one space. Now, skip the next stitch and into the next one, work one double crochet, followed by a chain one, skip the stitch and work a double crochet, followed by a chain one, double crochet, followed by a chain one. Double croche and a chain one. The same way work all the way around. I'll meet you at the end of our round number ten. We have reached the end of our round number ten. I made my last double crochet and a chain one. We have one stitch remaining, we'll skip that. Now to move the stitch marker over here and make a slip stitch at the top of your chain three, round ten is done. For round number 11, what I'm going to do is I'm going to count my last six stitches. I'm going to count my last six chain spaces, one, two, three, four, five, and six. This is my sixth chain space. In this space, I'm marking a stitch marker. Okay. Now for our round number 11, start off by making a chain three. This will be a first double crochet. Now using a stitch marker, mark your top of your chain three over here. And into this space, work two sets of double crochet, one and two, and now into my next stitch work one double crochet and now in the space, work two sets of double crochet. Now the chain space work, two sets of double crochet. In this round number 11, we'll be working one double crochet in the previous stitch followed by two sets of double crochets in the chain space. We'll be working all the way around until here. This last six chain spaces, one, two, three, four, five, and six, we'll be working differently. Work all the way around until this one. Until this, you'll be doing two double crochets in this chain space. After this, the last six chain spaces will be a different one. I'll meet you when I reach here. As you can see, I have reached the end over here and we have the six spaces left off and we have marked our stitch marker over here. Until this previous stitch, we worked two sets of double crochets in this chain phase. From now onwards, we'll be working only one double crochet in this space. In this previous stitch as usual, we'll be working one double crochet. Now moving on to this space, remove the stitch marker and inside the space, work only one double crochet. Here we'll be working one double crochet in our previous stitch. Here we'll be working one double in the space. Work on the similar manner of working one double crochet in the previous stitch followed by one double crochet in the chain space. We have done. Now remove the stitch marker over here. That is the top of your chain three. Now we'll make a slip stitch here. We have finished our round number 11. From now on, we'll be doing our edging for our place mat. 5. Making Edging Round 12 to Round 14: So now we'll see the edging for our placemat. Round number 12 onwards, we'll be working the edging for our placement. For beginning with round number 12, make chain five, one, two, three, four and five. How this will be considered this will be considered as a double crochet followed by a chain two space. Now what we are going to do is in the third chain, mark your stitch marker, one, two, and three. Here mark your stitch marker. Now what I'm going to do is into the same space, I'm going to work another double crochet. By working in this pattern, we'll get a V shape. As you can see, the V shape is looking nicer. After working this V space, work a chain two. After working chain two, skip two stitches, one and two, and into the third stitch, work a single crochet. Now again, chain two, and again, skip two stitches and into this third stitch, we'll be working a double crochet chain two, and one more double crochet in the same stitch to form the V pattern. Then again, chain two, skip two stitches and into the third one, work a single crochet. Now again, chain two. Skip the next two stitches and now we are going to work the space, a double crochet chain two, and one more double crochet in the same space. This will be a pattern now again, chain two, then skip two stitches, work a single crochet, and again, skip two stitches and work a V space. Follow the same pattern. I'll meet you when I reach the end over here. I have reached the end of my round number 12, I have made my last set of two chains and here I made my single crochet, two more stitches are there, we'll skip that stitch and here the top of chain three, I'm going to work my slip stitch. The first round for our edging is ready. Now we are going to work from this space chain to space. What I'm doing is we'll work a slip stitch over there. Done. Now work chain three, one, two, and three, and into the same space, work another double crochet. This first chain three will be considered as our first set of double crochet. Now here in the top of our chain three we'll insert a hook If you are well versed in crochet, then there is no need for you to use a stitch marker. In case you are a beginner, then the stitch marker is something which is needed so that you'll get easy when you finish the round. Now work chain one and into the same space, work two more double crochet. Now work chain two. After working chain two, I'm going to skip this portion. That is the single crochet, I'm going to skip and I'm going to work in this space. I'll be working two double crochet. Chain two and two more double crochet in the same space. Now again, chain two, I'll skip this single crochet and moving on to the V space, we'll be working two sets of double crochet chain one and two more double crochet in the same space. Now chain two and follow the same pattern, I'll meet you when I reach the end. We have reached the end of our round number 13. I have made my last set of two chains, we'll skip this chain phase and we'll make a slip stitch to the top of our chain three over here. In round number 13 is done. Now we'll move on to our round number 14 and this round number 14 is the last round for this placemat. Here also we'll be working from this space over here. I'll make another slip stitch into the next stitch here and finally another slip stitch into this chain space. Here I'll be starting off by making chain three. Using your stitch marker, mark the top of your chain three over here and into the same space work another double crochet. De now I'm going to work chain two. After working chain two, we'll be working a Picot stitch. For Picord stitch, what we'll be doing is the previous double crochet we made into that loop and then again, the side loop into both the side loops and going yarn over, pull through, and work a single crochet. You'll get a Picard stitch over there and now into the same space, work two more double crochet. Your pycod stitch will be looking like this. Now work a chain two. After working chain two in this space, work a single crochet. Now again, chain two. Now in this space, work two w crochet. After working two double crochet, chain two, and now into this front loop over here and the side loop over there, pull through. Picot is ready and two more double crochets into the same space. Now again, chain two here work a single crochet. Again, a chain two. Now here, work two double crochet. Chain two, insert your hook into these two loops over there. This loop and the side loop over here, and again, two more double crochets into the same space. Again, a chain two. Then here we'll be working our single crochet and chain two and follow the same pattern, we'll be getting a small peak like this for a pickot so apicot is also looking nice. You'll call it either a Picot or a Picot stitch. It gives you a good and a cute etching. Follow the same pattern, I'll meet you at the end over here. We have reached the end of this round and finally, I made my two chains, single crochet, and again, a two chain. Now we are going to finish it. Remove the stitch marker over here and make a slip stitch in the top of your chain three over here. Done now let's cut this extra thread. Now let's weave this end off. So we have weaved off this end. So here in the beginning, we left some thread, right. We are going to weave this off now. A 6. Measurement & Class Project: We have finished our place mat, so it is looking nice and big and the edging is looking very nice. Here we have followed a different pattern. For this particular space, we have followed a specific pattern and for the edging, the last three rows, it belongs to the edging and it's completely different, a different round placement. You can use it either for a dining table or you can use it as a pot holder or you can use it as a decorative centerpiece. Now let's check the measurements. If you check the diameter is 35 centimeters or 13.5 " so this is another center place mat, the same pattern, but I have used a different yarn. I used worst weighted yarn and I used a hook of about 3.5 millimeter. In this tutorial, I have used 4.5 millimeter hook and in this case, I have used 3.5 millimeter hook and it's a worst weighted yarn. Now let's check the measurement for this mat so this mat is 31 centimeters. For class project, you can try this place mat in different colors and you can also even use two different shades, you can use one particular shade for the center portion and for the edging, you can use a different color or you can change the colors for every two rows like this centerpiece, one color, followed by the next four rows, one color, you can change it in a similar way. It is as per your wish. For class project, try this center place mat. With different yarn and different hook size. Based on the thickness of your yarn, you can change your hook size. You can try it in different hook sizes with different yarn thickness and you can also use different shades. In case of any queries related to this placemat, please be free to ask. I'll revert to you back as soon as possible. I'll meet you in another crochet tutorial until then by happy crocheting.
