1. Welcome & Class Project: [MUSIC] Hi, I'm Jeremy Tan. Professional magician and content creator across different social media platforms. Over the past 20 years, I've performed professionally for fortune 500 companies, private parties, and luxury cruise lines all around the world. I'd like to welcome you to the card magic bookshop 2.0. Now you might be wondering, what about The Card Magic Workshop 1.0? Well, for that, you can head over to my YouTube channel below and learn the basic foundations of card magic deck. Like any performance art, I strongly believe that building a good foundation is essential. On my YouTube channel, you can learn basic card handling skills, shuffles, different techniques, and 12 amazing card magic routines that will get your audiences wanting more. Most of the tutorials are between one minutes long, and I specifically made them that way so that they're easier for you to digest, and most importantly, they are taught over my shoulder and in slow motion. So you get the best seats in the house. If you came from my YouTube channel, welcome. [APPLAUSE] I'm very happy that you made the decision to further your study into card magic. In this course, you will learn card controls, false cuts, pro tips on performing, color changes, and even more card tricks using what you've learned. Now before we begin, let's talk about the class project. All I want you to do is to film yourself performing for your friends or family using any of the card tricks that you've learned so far. Then post them in the class projects below. I'll watch them and give you feedback of what you've done well and what you can do better. This way, everyone can learn from each other and become better magicians, performers, and entertainers. Don't forget to follow me here as well, so you won't miss other classes that I'll be uploading. Welcome to The Card Magic Workshop 2.0. Let's get started. [MUSIC] 2. Intro to Card Controls: Card controls are extremely important when it comes to the progress of your card magic. Let me give you an example. In order to do slightly more advanced magic effects, you need to do this. Say for example, if somebody selects a card, in this case the ace of diamonds, the rest of the cards goes on top, lost somewhere in the middle. The cards are being cut, shuffle as you talk to them and ask them do they remember their card, so on and so forth. All these, wow, wow, you're shuffling and cutting the cards. You actually have perfect control over the ace of diamonds. In the next few videos, you will be learning some card controls as well as some false cards and jokes. These terms that we use might sound very foreign to you right now, but don't worry, they'll all be explained in the next few videos. If you're ready, let's learn some card controls. 3. How to Hold a Break: Holding a break simply means to secure the location of the audience's selected card. Here are two breaks that we are going to explore, which is the pinky break and the thumb break. If you're ready, let's go. The pinky break looks like this, using only the flesh of your last finger to hold a break, like so. From the front, it should look squared, but from the back, like this. The reason for a pinky break is, say, for example, this is the selected card, the three of clubs. You ask them to place it back into the deck and the rest of the cards goes on top, lost somewhere in the middle. But here you are actually holding a break, so you know the exact location as to where the card is. That way it makes it easier for you to control the cards later on, which we will learn in the later section. Pinky break can be done to the top card, like so. Simply just pushing the top card over and pulling it back and then holding the break. Same thing using only the flesh can be done with the last card as well. Now, there's another break that you need to learn about and it's called the thumb break. The thumb break looks like this, using the flesh of the thumb to hold a break between the cards. Its use is exactly the same. It can be done on top card like this, bottom card like this. How to practice is very simple, switch between the pinky break and the thumb break like that. Pinky break, thumb break. That is all for breaks. [MUSIC] 4. Intro to Card Jogs: [MUSIC] Like holding the break, a jog is also used to mark the location of the audience's selected card. It is very useful as after a jog you can actually place the cards on the table, continue with your pattern before picking them up, and then perform your control. It's a very useful tool, and do learn them well. In the next few videos, I'll be teaching you different kinds of jogs. Learn them well. 5. Learn The Thumb Jog: [MUSIC] Say for example, the ace of hearts is selected card. Again, I'll leave it face up. Same thing, you cut the cards this way. Then now using the hand or your left hand, slightly tilt the cards back like this using your thumb to pull this card down like that, just very slightly, while you put the rest of the cards on top. This way you don't have the whole break and the card will be dropped here. This is an in jog. Now, to control the card from here, you can either press down and square the cards out like this, and you have a break here, and you can perform your favorite control. If for example, you want to control the card to the bottom, same thing. Before you close these on top, you just simply push the top card back a bit like this. If you want to control it to the bottom, then just lift this one here and perform any control that you like, and you will end up on the bottom. That is the thumb jog. Always remember when the card is selected, like say for example, a 10 of spades, you ask them to place it back, always tilt the cards this way so that your thumb can push it down like that. Don't forget that. Because if you are to do it out in the open like this, people can tell that something is happening to their card. Always tilt the cards this way to their eye level. Your index finger should be at their eye level so that they can't see it. Then you can carry on with the thumb jog. [MUSIC] 6. Learn The Natural Jog: [MUSIC] Now we're going to learn the natural jog. The natural jog looks like this. Again, select that card, I'll leave it face up. Swing cut the cards over, they place their card here. You're simply just showing the cards from the back to the front. If it's done in slow motion it will look like this, you are just dropping the cards here in the forward motion. Dropping it here, but dropping in a forward motion. The first step is the cards will drop here like this and then you shake your hand forward and the cards will fall forward like that. From the front it looks squared but actually you have a big jog here. That's the selected card over here. You can pick up from here and continue with any controls that you like. In normal speed it will look like this. You just simply place the cut deck and you get this jog right here. Square the cards up and you can perform any controls that you like. That is the natural jog control. The natural jog can also be used this way. For example, the selected card is the ace of hearts. It's placed back into the center and the rest of the cards goes on top like this. At this point, you can actually take the cards and just leave it on the table, continue talking. Whenever you want you can just pick the cards up, square the cards again, and perform your favorite control, and then you can still control the card [NOISE] back to the top. [MUSIC] 7. Learn The Dribble Jog: [MUSIC] Now let's learn the dribble jog. Say for example, the selected card is the ace of hearts. Again, I'll leave it face up for explanation. Now, all you have to do is just swing the cards like this. Then what you want to do is dribble the cards starting from the back to the front. Dribble the cards starting from the back to the front like this, as though it's very messy looking. At this point of time you can see there's a big jump over here. From here, all you have to do is just square the cards out like this and hold your pinky brick, and you will see that your selected card is here. [MUSIC] From this point onwards you can do any controls whatsoever. I'll do it face down. In real-time it will look like this. Take the card and just rebuild the cards on top, lost somewhere in the middle, just cut the cards, and you have the ace of hearts back on top. Another tip for using the dribble jog is this. After the card is selected, the ace of hearts, and then you perform the dribble jog like so. You can actually take the cards and just place it on a table without much notice, and you can talk about the effect and all that kind of stuff. Then whenever you want you can pick it up because it is still jogged like this. Pick it up, hold your break, and carry on with any controls that you like. [MUSIC] 8. Learn The Fan Jog: Now let's learn another method called the fan jog. This method uses the Tom fan. If you're ready, let's go. Select a card, the ace of hearts. This time I'll leave it face up. What you need to do is this. Perform the Tom fan which you learned earlier. At this point of time, you take their card again I'll leave it face up for explanations. Put it anywhere you like or you can ask the audience to put it anywhere they like. All right. Once they're happy with it, all you have to do is just apply pressure on your thumb. Apply pressure on your thumb and push the card in like this. There'll be a certain point when you apply pressure on the thumb that this card can not go in anymore. At this point of time, simply just square that cards up and you should have your jog over here. Now you can choose whether to control the card to the top or the bottom. Say if I want to control the card to the top, you just press down and [inaudible] There we go. One more time, this time I'll do it face down. The card is the same ace of hearts. Fan the cards and then you say, take the card or you can often to say stop. I'll run my hand like this. You say stop anytime you like. They say stop. You place the card here, you show it to them. This is the their card, the ace of hearts. Tap it like so and square the cards. From this point onwards, you can do any control and control the cards to wherever you want. 9. The Triple Cut Control: [MUSIC] Now I'm going to show you what a triple cut control looks like. Say for example, the selected card is a king of diamonds. It is placed back into the middle like this, the rest of the cards goes on top. Then you give it a few cuts like this, and the card is then controlled back to the top. Now let's learn the triple cut control. Say for example, the selected card, is the ace of hearts, I'll leave it face up for explanation sake. Now what you do is that instead of cutting half, you cut about 1/3 of the deck over. About 1/3 of the deck, you swing, cut it over and ask them to place the cut back here. Once they do that, you perform the pinky break like so. Now a triple cut simply means to cut it three times, so you cut here once, place it on the table, second time cut everything above the break, and the third time just put everything here on top, therefore, controlling the cards at the top. Now one more time, remember cut 1/3, like so, hold the pinky break and then just cut 1, 2, 3. Very casual way of controlling the card to the top. [MUSIC] 10. The Undercut Control: This is how the undercut control looks like. Same thing, selected card is the King of Diamonds. Place it back into the center, somewhere in the middle like this, and the rest of the cards goes on top, lost. Give me a few cards like this and just like that, the selected card now is back to the top. Now, let's learn the undercut control. Say for example, our selected card is the three of hearts, you swing cards to cards over and you ask them to place the card back here. I'll leave this card face up so you can see exactly what's happening. The rest of the cards goes on top and you see it's lost somewhere in the middle. What you're actually doing is that you're actually holding a pinky break over here. Now, all you need to do is just transfer to the thumb break and perform an undercut. What an undercut simply means is that you take some cards from the bottom, cut them and place them on top like this. You can do it two times or three times, it doesn't really matter. The last packet, take everything from the break and put them on top, and that is the undercut control. I'll do it again. Watch carefully, the card goes here, back on here, the rest of the cards goes on top, lost somewhere in the middle. Remember you're holding a pinky break and just cut the card this way underneath. That is the undercut control. [MUSIC] 11. The Riffle Shuffle Control: [MUSIC] The riffle shuffle control looks something like this. The ace of hearts is our selected card once again. The card is then placed back into the middle like so, lost. Then now all we have to do is just execute a riffle shuffle like that. We should be able to control the card back to the top. Now, let's learn the riffle shuffle control. Say for example, the selected card is the three of hearts, I'm going to leave it face up so you can see it better. You swing cut the cards over and ask them to place their card back and you put the rest of the cards on top, lost. Now, what you're actually doing is that you're actually holding a pinky break above the card. Now to execute the riffle shuffle control, all you have to do is just riffle up to the break, break the cards this way, and perform the riffle shuffle. [NOISE] Remember to put this card on the left-hand side as the last card, so you can control the card to the top like so. One more time, I'll leave it face down so you can actually see what is happening. Again, break like so, [NOISE] and there you have the three of hearts controlled to the top. [MUSIC] 12. The Overhand Shuffle Control: [MUSIC] Now let's talk about the overhand shuffle control. Say, for example, the selected card is the ace of hearts. What you do is this. It looks like this. You can take the card, ask them to place it back, and then you go into a series of shuffles like this. Just like that, just by even shuffling the cards, you should be able to control the ace of hearts back to the top. Now let's learn the overhand shuffle control. Say, for example, the selected card is the three of hearts, I will leave it face up so you can see exactly what's happening. To execute the overhand shuffle control, what you need to do is this. Take off a block of cards like so and I said to place the card back here while you shuffle the rest of the cards on top. What you're actually doing is that the first card is actually is out jumped like so. Followed by the rest of the cards, you can shuffle some of them out jumped like this, as long as they are messy like that, and put the rest on top. Now from the side, if you look at it, this packet here is squared or the rest are the cards that are shuffled. If you were to lift out from here, you can actually take their selected card and control it back to the top like this. I'll do it again. This time, I'll still leave the card face up in normal speed. This is how it will look like. Like this out jump and shuffle the rest of the cards like so. Once you are done, just pick up from here and show the rest on top. Now you have their selected card controlled to the top. [MUSIC] 13. The Hindu Shuffle Control: [MUSIC] What is a Hindu shuffle control? Let me perform it for you. Say for example, the selected card is the ace of hearts and you cut the cards like this and ask them to place the ace of hearts back on top like so. Then you go into a series of shuffle. After the card is lost somewhere in the middle and then shuffled, you still be able to control the card back to the top. Now let's learn the Hindu shuffle control. Say for example, our selected card is the three of hearts again. To perform the Hindu shuffle control, again, I'll leave this card face up so you can see exactly what's happening, is to peel some cards off and have them replace the card here. The rest of the cards go on top, but you are holding a brake in between the two packets like so. What you can do is that you can pick up everything like so and start shuffling, Hindu shuffle like this, where the cards just start to drop and once you clear all the cards, you can slap this packet on top like that. I'll do it again in normal speed so you get exactly what's happening. The card goes back to the center like so and then you just pick up the cards, you shuffle them like that as you talk about when you see the card, will you remember it and stuff like that. Once you're done, just put the card back to the top and that's how you do the Hindu shuffle control. [MUSIC] 14. Intro to False Cuts: [MUSIC] You have heard about cutting the deck like this, [NOISE] and maybe even like that, different ways of cutting the deck, or even maybe like this. What is a false cut? All these cards that you just saw were actually false cuts because they actually retain the same order of the entire deck like so. Now let's learn about false cuts. 15. The Hindu False Cut: [MUSIC] The Hindu false cut is a simple way of cutting the cards like this on the table. It looks like a regular cut, but it's actually a false cut. Because if I've done it right, the cards are back into its original order once again. Now, let's learn the Hindu false cut. The Hindu false cut look something like this. As the name suggests, you start off with the Hindu shuffle grip and just taking the cards out from the bottom, like so from the bottom, tapping this area, the base of the cards, facing it down on a table and put the rest on top. One more time, taking the cards from the bottom, tap, and like this. If you have done it right, the deck should still be in its original order like so. I'll do it face-up so you can see exactly what's happening. I cut the bottom, put it on the table, and put a top on top like this. All right. [MUSIC] 16. The R.O.V False Cut: The retention of vision false cut or ROV false cut. Looks something like this. Just cut the cards and just place them on a table like this. Again, looks very convincing, but it's actually a false cut. All the cards are back to its original order just like that. Now, let's learn the ROV false cut. The ROV false cut looks like this. You just swing cut the cards over, tap, put the cards down and the rest on top. Okay. One more time, this time I'll do it face up. You swing cut some cards over, tap, put it down like this. In normal speed, it should look like you're just making a cut. But actually it is a false cut. Because if you had done it right, the whole deck would still be in its original order. 17. The Frank Thompson False Cut: [MUSIC] This is how the Frank Thompson Cut looks like. You simply just cut the cards on the table like this, square the cards up, and you're done. One more time. [NOISE] It looks very convincing, but it's actually a false cut. Because if I'd done it correctly, the cards are still in its original order like this. Let's learn the Frank Thompson False Cut. This is how you do the Frank Thompson False Cut. First, you start off by cutting about 1/3 of the cards, swing cut them over, and then split these again. What you do now is do swing cut this packet over here, but hold a pinky break like this. The cards in your right hand, you place it down on the table, take this cards off on the table, and the last packet on the table like that. One more time, this time I'll leave it face up. Watch. You swing cut 1/3 of the cards over like so. Swing cut again, put this on top, but hold the pinky break. The cards, they are on the table. Put it down, down, and down. You should have this. In normal speed with the cards face down, it will look like this. That's it. That's the Frank Thompson False Cut. [MUSIC] 18. PRO TIP: After the Control: [MUSIC] Here's a pro tip as to what you can do after a control. You can add in the things that you learned earlier, like for example, after you control the card to the top, you can add in a riffle shuffle while maintaining the card on top and then perform a false card. Let me give you an example. Say, for example, the audience, selects the card, in this case, the three of hearts, remember that card and don't forget it. When you see your card again will you remember it? You will. That's very important because if you forget about the card then the magic will be pointless. Do you see that? As you are talking about your pattern, you are doing different types of control and to the audience, you're actually mixing the cards even more but you still have control over the card. Here's a pro tip, use it well. Combine the different things. I like to see what you can come up with as well. 19. The Shake Change: [MUSIC] Now, let me show you what the Shake Change is. Say for example the audience selects a card, you remember that card, don't forget it, the king of hearts. The rest of the cards goes on top, lost somewhere in the middle, we give it a quick shuffle like this, [NOISE] and a quick cut. Now we know it's really, really lost. Your card is not on top, that is the ace of clubs. Your card is the king of hearts. All I could do is just take the card like so, give it a little shake like this, and it changes to become the king of hearts. Now, let's learn the Shake Change. Say for example, the three of spades is the selected card, you want to control this card second from the top. In order to do this, you can use any of the add-ons, for example, from a thumb break like this, you swing, cut the cards over, turn this cut over, and one card to the top, and then perform any control, followed by any false cards, entirely up to you. Now you should have the selected card second from the top, like this. What you want do is, you want to push off two cards like this, and pull them back, and hold a pinky break above two cards. While you ask them, turning the top card over, remember still holding the break. Turning the top card over and ask them, is this your card? Clearly, they will say no because their selected card is the three of spades, and then you say watch this. You pick up on the index corners of the cards where the numbers on the alphabets are, you pick them up like this. With your index finger, you are simply going to just rotate the card like this. One more time, with your index finger, just pull back and rotate the card like this. Now, why this works? Because in magic, there's a principle that says the bigger motion covers the smaller motion. The smaller motion is this. The bigger motion is when you shake the cards like that, so this is a bigger motion. If you combine those two by shaking the card like this, it actually changes into the three of spades. Then you can just put them down like that. Now, it is very important that you hold in the index corners because after you turn, these cards will align to the deck, so you can just simply drop the cards on the deck, thumb off the top card, and show them that it has changed to their selected card. If however, after you are holding two cards as one, if you're holding the non-indexed corner, and you turn and shake and change. See how awkward the hand's going to be to come together and put the cards again? It's very important that you pick it up from the index corner, shake, change, place it back down, and show them their selected card. That is the Shake Change. [MUSIC] 20. The Shapeshifter Change: [MUSIC] Now I'm going to perform for you the shapeshifter change. Same thing, someone of your audience, select a card. Remember this one, don't forget it. In this case, the ace of diamonds. Next thing we do, same thing, give it a few cuts like this, and we'll lose it somewhere in the middle. Not exactly sure where. Let's take a look at the top card. In this case, the seven of clubs. That's clearly not your card, but I want you to watch very carefully. Your card, the ace of diamonds, just like that. Now let's learn the shapeshifter change. The shapeshifter change is exactly the same, you just have to control their selected card, second from the top. Say, for example, the queen of diamonds is their selected card. You just have to place it second from the top. Again, turn the top card over, hold break under two cards like so. Pick them up again from the index corners. Now with the other hand, the middle finger and thumb, you got to contact the non-index corners. These two fingers are just acting as a pivot because in a moment they're going to change like this using the thumb and to release, and they're going to turn over like that in an instant. It cannot be done in slow motion, but I'll slow down the footage so you can see exactly what happens. Once you're in this position, all you have to do is just place the card back down and show them that it has changed to their selected card. That is the shapeshifter change. [MUSIC] 21. CARD TRICK: The Question Is...?: [MUSIC] Hi. Welcome back. Now let me perform for you. The question is. We have Angel over here. Angel, any card that you like, you can have, pick one. Show it to the camera. Remember the card and don't forget. Okay. Good. Place the card back here. The rest of the cards goes on top, lost somewhere in the middle. All right, now, the question is, before that. The question is, what was your card? The nine of clubs. The nine of clubs. Ladies and gentlemen, the nine of clubs. [LAUGHTER] Now let's learn the question is. This is the explanation for the question is. Say, for example, our selected card is the two of hearts, perform any control that you like. From here and then add in a few shuffles and a few false cuts to really solidify the fact that the card is really lost somewhere in the deck. But of course, you have perfect control over the card. Next thing to do is very simple, like the ribbon spread, you are basically going to spread the cards in the form of a question mark and then ask them the question is, what is their card? They will say it's the two of hearts, turn it over to reveal that it is indeed the two of hearts. That's it. A very simple way to review a playing card in a fun way using the ribbon spread to form a question mark. I hope you like this one. 22. CARD TRICK: The Static Card: [MUSIC] Hi and welcome back. Now, I'm going to perform for you the static cut trike. Angel, any card that you like, you can have. So go ahead, take one, look at it. Remember the card and don't forget it. Show it to all our friends. Okay. Yes. Good. Say stop. Stop. You're going to place the card back here. Remember it. One last look at it. When you see your card again, you recognize it? Yes. Fantastic. Now, the idea here is very simple. I want you to watch carefully. [NOISE] I'm just going to give them a quick shuffle, so I have no idea where the card is because all we need is a bit of static electricity. The rub like this, and one card. Sorry. [LAUGHTER] One, sorry. Maybe I should use my hair. [LAUGHTER] One card and one card. Oh, there we go. Rises from the deck for the first time. What was the card you selected? Nine of diamonds. Nine of diamonds. Ladies and gentleman, the nine of diamonds. Now let's learn the static card trick. Say for example, the selected card is the five of diamonds. All you have to do is to control the card to the bottom of the deck. Okay. Not on top, but to the bottom of the deck. There are many ways you can do this when you ask them to replace the card, you can show it to them and ask them to remember. Don't forget it by doing this, you can obtain pinky brick. From here, put the rest of the cards on top, square the cards up while maintaining the pinky break. Then you can perform your undercut control and now the card will be on the bottom. I prefer it to be on the bottom so that all the backs of the cards are facing the audiences. Now to perform the static rise, first make sure that all the fingers are here and the thumb is here. You don't want people to suspect that you're using your thumb or other fingers to try and push the card up. What you do is this, wrap and try, doesn't work one more time. Doesn't work and then say, "Oh, let's try using the table or your hair." When the finger goes behind, only then do you extend your pinky finger. Your pinky finger will help to push the card up like this. It looks like it rises out a deck. Remember to keep your pinky finger and then take the card out. Now you can ask them what was the card that they selected? They will say it's the five of hearts, and then reveal that you found the five of hearts. Now the very important thing is, like I said, do not prematurely extend your pinky finger. Imagine this right? You do it once like that, didn't work. Oh, I'll try my hair. Now watch. Did you see that? You're already telling people how it's done. Only do this when the index finger is behind the deck like this. On top of the deck like this. Only then do you extend your pinky finger and make it rise like that. Then ask them, what was the card? They will say it's the five of hearts. Boom, five of hearts. That is the explanation for the static card trick. I hope you like it. 23. CARD TRICK: Biddle Across: [MUSIC] Hi, welcome back. Now I'm going to perform for you Biddle across. Now we have Angel here to help. Angel, any card that you like you can have so take one, look at it, remember the card, show it to all our friends. Don't show it to me. Good. Now I'm going to place your card back here, the rest of the cards goes on top, lost somewhere in the middle. When you see your card again, will you remember it? Yes. You will? That's very important. Good. Now, let me ask you a question, are you a good liar? No. [LAUGHTER]. I'm very truthful to you. Good. Now, we're going to try this again. I'm going to take about half the cards so you hold on to the rest of the half in your hands like this. Very good. Then this is what we're going to do. I'm going to start with the five cards here. We're going to start with 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. Now I'm going to show you these five cards one at a time and I will ask you the same question. The question is going to be, is this your card? Your answer has to be no. Even if you see your card, I want you to say no. Okay? If it's not these five then we'll move on to the next five, next five, and so on. Okay. All right? Let's begin. First one, the three of diamonds, is this your card? No. This one, is this your card? No. Is this your card? No. But when you see your card again, you recognize it, yes? Yes. Good. Is this your card? No. Is this your card? No. Interesting. You hold on to the rest of the cards. I'm thinking you did lie. I think one of these cards is actually your card, yes? Good. It could either be the first one, the second one, the third one, the fourth one or the fifth one, either one of these cards, correct? Yes. Let's take for example, what if I told you I can remove one card invisibly? How many cards shall I be left with? Four. Four. That's card Number 1, card Number 2, card Number 3, and card Number 4. 1, 2, 3, and 4, right? Your card right over here, the seven of clubs, yes? [LAUGHTER] Now watch this, when I snap my fingers like this, the card vanishes, reappears inside the deck which you've been holding the whole time. Now, you've been holding the cards whole time, yes? Now, I want you to watch very carefully because all the cards are facing one way each and every single one of them all except for one card. You said your card was? Seven of clubs. Ladies and gentlemen, the seven of clubs it is. Now let's learn this card trick called Biddle across. Here's the explanation of Biddle across. Say for example the selected card is the ace of diamonds. You want to control this card third from the top. Now in order to do that, there are many ways you can do this. One of the ways that I use is to shuffle a block of cards like this and ask them to say stop, ask them to place the card here. Their ace of diamonds will end up here. Now what I do is I shuffle two cards on top of the ace of diamonds, 1, 2, and then I out drop the next card and shuffle the rest of the cards like this. Now when I pick up from the out drop, simply by picking up like this, throwing everything on top, you will see that I have successfully controlled the card third from the top. That's the method I use. You can use any of your methods to control the card to the top. Next thing you want to do is this, say that you will cut about half the deck and you hand them the rest of the half. They were holding in their hands like this. Next, from here, you remove five cards, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 and then turn it over like that. [NOISE] You're going to tell them that you are going to ask them the same question. The question is, is this your card? They must always answer no, even if they see their card, they must say no. That's the rules. Then start by doing this, thumb off the first card and hold it in the mechanics grip and ask them, is this your card? They will say no. Do the same for the second card and ask them, is this your card? They will say no. This will be their card, it is third from the top so peel it off but this time round hold a pinky break. Hold a pinky break and ask them, is this their card? They will say no. As you come back and take this card, you are going to pick up the ace of diamonds from the break while you take the five of clubs. The ace of diamonds is now stolen back into this top packet. I'll do it one more time like this, is this your card? No. Then peel off this card as you steal the ace of diamonds. Now in order to do that with some cover, this is what I normally do. I will ask them a question. I will say something like, but when you see your card again, will you recognize this? They will normally look at you and this is when you execute the move. Let me repeat. In a performance view it will look like this, is this your card? No. How about this, is this your card? No. But when you see your card, you recognize it, yes? That's done. Now the ace of diamonds has been successfully stolen from the deck. Then just casually continue. How about this one, is this your card? No. Now you'll place the rest of the cards with the ace of diamonds already face up into their hands and ask them to hold tight. Now what you need to do is to execute a false calm. You can say something like, I think one of these cards is actually your card. Now tell me honestly, is it? Then they will say yes, I say good. You do like this, it could be the first card, it could be the second card, the third card, the fourth card or the fifth card, either one of these cards. In order to do that, basically you are just peeling off the first card. Hold the cards in Biddle grip using your thumb to peel off the first card. As you are peeling off the second card, you're stealing this card back again. That's 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. You're counting four cards as five. One more time, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. This time round I'll leave it face up so you can see. The 10 of hearts will be the one that we are going to steal and count as the fifth card, 1, 2, see there's no more cards here, the 10 of hearts is here, 3, 4, and 5. One more time in normal speed, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. After this when you count the cards, [NOISE] you can say something like, what if I remove the card invisibly? Or you can say, what if I snap my fingers, one card will vanish from the deck. Entirely up to you, what you'll like to say, entirely up to how you'd like to present this trick. I don't want to spoon-feed you. I want you to come up with your own presentation. Or you can even say, I think it's one of these cards. What if I take the card, give it a blow and it disappears, entirely up to you. Just by simply holding the card like this, this is called a tent vanish, as though you are palming the card but what you're doing is when your hands cover the card, you are dropping this card back. From the front it will look like this. What if I take the card, give it a blow and it vanishes, you could do something like that as well. I've seen many presentations, but again, entirely up to you. Ultimately the card has to vanish. You can show that as one, that's two, that's three, and that's four. Their card has vanished completely and then remind them, you've been holding onto the cards the whole time, the rest of the cards in their hand the whole time, they will say yes. Then now I like to always turn it over face-up show that all the cards are facing one way, all except for one card. Ask them, what was the card? They will say it's the ace of diamonds and then show them, it is indeed the ace of diamonds. Now, there are many ways you can reveal this. Another way is, of course, just to do this, say watch if I snap my fingers, look, all the cards are face down except the ace of diamonds. Now I don't particularly like this way of revelation because it kills the suspense. If you were to spread the cards in your hands like this and show that all the cards are face up, all except for one card. Then now it builds a bit more suspense. Remove the card and ask them, was it the ace of diamonds? They'll say yes, and then turn it over. That's a nice climax to the whole card effect. This is Biddle across one of the particular card tricks that I personally love to use. I hope you practice them well and use it properly. Thank you for watching. 24. CARD TRICK: The Sloppy Triumph: [MUSIC] Hi and welcome back and now I'm going to perform for Angel and you guys, the sloppy triumph. Angel, can you shuffle cards? I will try. Go ahead. Give it a good make. Shuffle the cards any which way you like. You happy with that? Yeah. Cut the cards as well and complete the card. Fantastic. Good, any card that you like you can have. Go ahead, reach over, take one, look at it. Remember the card then show it to all our friends over there. Remember the card? Yes. Yes? Good. Now, I'll run my thumb down like this. You say stop anytime you like. Place the card back here. The rest of the cards, we can top lost somewhere in the middle. Idea is very simple. Just now ask you to shuffle the cards and that's how you shuffle in this fashion. We tell you guys a little story. Back in the day, I did this particular card trick for somebody and at this point he said, could he shuffled cards? I said, "Sure." Instead of shuffling regularly like this, overhead shuffling on it, he demonstrated really weird shuffle. He did this, he took some cards like this, turn them over, face up and face down and he shuffled the cards face up and phase down. [LAUGHTER] which you can imagine would be a mess. As you can see, some of the cards are face up, some of the cards are face down, some of the cards are even, let's see back to back. Let see if I can find it right there. I said, why do you shuffle the cards like this? all, every which way and he said, because he didn't believe in magic. So I say, okay, watch carefully. What I have to do now is just wave my hands, stay my fingers [NOISE] and just like that, watch all the cards each and every single time turns one-way all except for one card and there happens to be, what was your card? Three of diamonds. Three of diamonds indeed. Now let's learn the sloppy triumph. This is the explanation of the sloppy triumph. Say for example, the selected card is the two of hearts. Now you want to control this card to the bottom of the deck instead of to the top. Now to do this, there are many ways you can go about doing this. You can take the card like this and simply just push the card back like that. Doing your thumb job and picking up all the cards from here. That way you will pick up the two of hearts. You can cut this packet down so the two of hearts will immediately go down to the bottom, and you can square the cards and then you can do a Hindu shuffle, taking only from the middle so that you won't disturb any of the bottom card like this and shuffled the cards as you talk to them about, asking them with different ways of shuffling cards. That's one way you can do it. Another way to do it is of course, just to simply control the card back to the top and then do a overhand shuffle. You shuffle one card so that it is right here at the bottom. That simple. Next, you have to do the slop shuffle. The slop shuffle or something like this. Basically you push off a block of cards. Now you turn them over so that they are face up. Continue pushing on block of cards underneath the packet like that. Turn it over, continue to push, a block cards like this and once you reach the end, the last card, which is the selected card, will go on top of the cards like this. So the current situation you have right now is that this is the selected card that is face down, a bunch of face up cards, and then followed by all the face down cards. Now how you can show that the cards are shuffled face up into face down. You just simply lift off the top half of the cards, and go see some other cards are face up and then lift off from the bottom half of the deck and show that some of the cards are face down. Then the important thing now is to cut exactly where the cards are back-to-back. Now because they're playing cards this way, they're actually has a natural break. Every time you pick up they will always be there. It might take a few practices, but you'll get used to it. These are the only cards they are facing each other. Once you cut here and some other cards or even back-to-back, what you need to do is to rotate the whole packet around and then place it back on top. You're basically placing the selected card face up in the middle while turning over all the face up cards. When you pick it up and you go, some of the cards are back-to-back. Take these cards, place it on top. You can turn the cards face up, and now you say, all I need to do is just snap my fingers like this, spread the cards and show that all the cards are facing one way, each and every single one, all except for one card. That happens to be the two of hearts. That was the explanation of the sloppy triumph. One of my favorite things to perform triumph effects are great. I hope you learn this well put into practice, remember the handling, and then perform it for your audiences. Thank you for watching. 25. CARD TRICK: Dunbury Aces: [NOISE] Hi and welcome back. Now I'm going to perform for you. Dunburoy Aces. We have Angel. Angel, any kind of you like, you can have. Go ahead take one. Very good. Now lets take the rest of the cards. You look at a card. Remember the card and don't forget it. Show it to our friends there and your audience as well. Okay. You got it? Yes? I would like you to place your card back here. Now, when you see your card will you remember it? Yes. It's very important. In fact, this card trick is quite special because I'm not going to find a card. This deck here is going to tell me the exact location as to where your card is. Pretty interesting right? Now, if you think about it, for example, the first card here. The first card here will tell me how near your card is to the deck. If the value is big, your card is near. If the value is small, your card is far away. Let's take a look. Ace is pretty good. The ace of diamonds which tells me that your card is pretty near. Next card tells me the suit of your card, clubs, hearts, spades or diamonds. In this case, hearts. Pretty good. I know that your card is a heart, yes? Yes. Okay. The next card tells me how many more cards I have to deal with before your card appears. It says here three. Cool. This is what we're going to do. I'm going to deal down three cards. Here we go. One, two and three. For the first time, what was your card you selected? The queen of hearts. The what? The queen of hearts. [LAUGHTER] Sometimes [LAUGHTER] Magicians make mistakes too, but not today. That is the queen of hearts [LAUGHTER]. Almost there. These are actually the one, two, three, four aces. Now, let's learn the Dunburoy Aces. This is the explanation of the Dunburoy Aces. First you remove the four aces, followed by a three. Any three, it doesn't really matter. Next, what you need to do is to take three aces. Put it on top of the three, and everything like this. This is your setup. This is your setup. Ace, ace, ace, three followed by another ace. Next, put this on the bottom of the deck and now you are ready to begin. Ask somebody to select a card. In this case, the Jack of hearts. Now, what you want to do is to do an add on move. You have to use your index finger to pull this card back. Pull this is card back. Press down like this, and obtain a thumb break under only one card. Or you can use your pinky to pull down one card. Transfer it to your thumb break like this. Next thing you want to do, holding the break. Swing the card over and ask them to place the card back here. Now, you replace the Jack of hearts back here. You want to add on this card onto the Jack of hearts while performing an undercut control. You add on and perform an undercut control. Now, the current situation should be one ace followed by the unselected card. Aces followed by the unselected the card. The bottom should be ace, ace, three, ace. Now, you need to hold a break underneath the four cards. To do this, I normally say this card trick is quite interesting because I'm not going to find a card. In fact, this deck here is going to tell me the exact location as to where your card is. By doing so in the excuse of spreading the cards, I've actually obtain a break underneath the bottom four cards, okay. All you have to do is just spread the cards and say, actually, I'm not going to find the card this deck here. Quickly just looked down and you can feel for four cards. Bring the cards here. As you square them up. You hold a pinky break, that's it. actually I'm not going to find the card, this deck here is going to tell me the exact location as to where your card is. Now, next thing you do is this in Biddle grip. Swing cards about half the cards over in your hands and say for example, this card. Remember this is the first aces followed by the unselected card. This card will tell me how near your card is to the deck. If the value is big, your card is near. Next, turn this over and show that it is an ace, which means that it is near, good. Turning over so basically just pushing it over and using this deck to flip it like a book like that and then just drop the cards down on the table. The next card will tell me the suit of your card, clubs, heart, spades or diamonds. Turn this over. Hearts. At this point, you will see some weird looks or they will giggle or something like that, because it is their card, and they will be like, "Okay, the magician got it wrong. He screwed up" that kind of stuff. Act normal, act as though it is really what the deck is saying. Let's carry on the Jack of hearts. As you turn this over, you're going to drop these four cards on top of the Jack of hearts. What you're going to do is, you're going to turn this over and then drop these cards on top. Now, the current situation should be ace three ace ace followed by the selected card. Ace three aces aces followed by the selected card. Now, back to this. Remember you're holding the break. This is the selected card. What I'll normally say, is this the Jack of hearts? As I turn it over and then I look up to them and I go, is your card a heart? Yes. Good. What you've done is you've just added the cards and quickly separated your hands. I'll do it one more time. Watch carefully. The four cards, the thumb break. Jack of hearts is here. This is the timing and how it should look like. Say,, Okay, Jack of hearts. Now, is your card a heart? Yes, good and just act normal. Thumb this next card off, which is going to be an ace, do not show this to them. Just time it off and place it down. Next, you'll tell them the next card will tell me how many more cards I have to deal before your card appears. Turn this over to show that it's a three. Now, what you do is you can put the cuts down, take that three, place it here put the rest of the cards on top, and then start dealing one, two, three. At this point, you ask them what is their card? They will say that it is the one over here, the Jack of hearts. A little bit, acting comes into play because now you're going to be like, Okay, yeah. If you need any tips, just go back to the performance part of this video, so you get a better idea of what I did. I'm not saying that you should copy whatever I say, I'm saying that this should be stepping stone or a start to let people to do create your own way of performing this. Well, this is why I like to say. I like to say, sometimes magicians make mistakes, but not today. It kind of creates a bit of a funny, comical site to this. You review their card, reaction and now they want to rush to come and look at these cards. They can if they want to. If not, they would normally say, Oh, but I thought I saw, and then you square the cards and then you reveal that they are actually the four aces. That was the explanation of Dunburoy Aces. One final tip, one very important tip as well is the Performing angle. Because you'll be holding some breaks below the card, in other ways, you can thumb off 1,2,3,4 and then hold a break here if you'd like. Now, if you are performing it for people on this side, you don't want to be in this position because they can see the break. Get it. You want to be performing on this side with a back of the hand is facing the audience. That's very important because when you go something like this, remember the card? Very good, and then the next card and then when you add on the cards, they are all covered by the back of your hand. If however you are performing on this angle, then you expose the magic. You'll show that this, then you would do this and then when you add on they will be able to see it. A very important tip is to perform the back of the hand facing the audience. Learn this well, it will take a little bit of practice to remember the steps and the setup and all that thing but trust me, the reactions will be priceless. I hope you enjoyed this one. 26. But Wait.. There's MORE!: Hey, thank you so much for coming this far. I hope you have learned and enjoyed this class as much I had fun doing the research, filming, and editing. Please put in the hard work, practice, and make sure you weed out any possible mistakes before you perform for anyone. Bad magic is what kills this art form. So what now, as we speak, I'm currently working on the Card Magic workshop 3.0 and 4.0. 3.0 will be more focused on card tricks using all the skills, techniques, and knowledge that you have gained over the first two Card Magic workshops. On top of that, you will also learn mind-reading techniques with playing cards. I also have a few more classes coming up my sleeve that is not related to the Card Magic, so stay tuned for that. For now, please save this class so that you can come back at any time to refer to any techniques or card tricks they are taught here. Feel free to ask me anything related to magic and performance. If you'd like to drop me a private message, follow me on my different social media accounts, and I'll be more than happy to answer your questions. Once again, thank you so much for attending this class, you guys take care, stay safe, and I'll see you soon.
