About This Class

Learn how to Draw Arabic Calligraphy letters in Thuluth style using simple tools. This class is created for beginners who are passionate to learn about Arabic calligraphy and don't have any background on Arabic or Calligraphy.

Using just a pencil, marker and a ruler, you can create beautiful Arabic calligraphy on paper or any digital software. I arranged the lessons according to the similarities between the shapes of the different letters to make it easier to learn.

In this class you will learn seven letters only from the alphabet, and you can continue learning how to draw the rest of the alphabet by finding the other classes in my profile page.

What's interesting about this calligraphy class though, is that we are learning many styles within thuluth, you'll learn drawing the letter ra' (R) in 3 different styles, Meem (M) in two different styles, and so is Waw (W,O,U). So you will find an inspiring variety that will help you increase your creativity in drawing Arabic calligraphy, any other type of calligraphy, or art in general.

1. Intro to Arabic Calligraphy (Thuluth): Hi, this is Mark from agents and we're here to learn Arabic calligraphy. In this class, we're going to learn seven liters using simple tools. And as usual, you don't need any calligraphy background or knowledge in the Arabic language. To start, we're exploring different styles when we have three styles to draw, rho and Zane, two styles to draw wall. Also two styles for me, and we'll learn one style for bet. And I arranged it the lessons according to the similarities between the different letters. What's interesting about this group is that it consists of one style that's pretty definite, straight line, certain angles, sharp edges and so on. Another style is more flexible, smooth lines, soft and more curves. And a third style that makes it a little bit of both. It's gonna be quite a contrast. So we're gonna consider it a process with different phases. The first starts with creating the outline. You'll find me using imaginary squares and rectangles. Then I will add several marks inside this rectangle and I rounded to guide us through the process of drawing the letters. Then we'll draw each letter accordingly. The first attempt will be like a draft of course, but then later the editing phase, the refines all the messy lines and to correct any mistakes, make the letter look as smooth and natural as possible. Then we'll end it with the current. You'll find me skipping this part just to save some time. And lastly, we're going to create the class project. But more about this in the next lesson. 2. Intro to Class Project of Thuluth Calligraphy: The class project. This time we'll be drawing two or three different layers from the group of letters we're learning today. By choosing glitters with the similar ends or similar shapes to create it, you will need symbol drawing tools like a pen, paper, marker, and ruler. If you're working on a digital software, I'm not using any special tools. So you can start simply by opening your preferred software and start learning the letters. Then you can choose the group you want to draw. So let's start with the first lesson. 3. Lesson 1: Drawing Ra' (R) First Style in Thuluth Calligraphy: This is the first part of and many other arbitrators, as you will learn, here is how we draw it. The outline is one-two-three. All parts should be equal. Before starting, we're going to add few marks to guide us. One is by the bottom of the third square, leaving a tiny space from the right corner like this. Second is at the top square near the left side. Third is around the middle of the left side of the top square. Then by the end of square two, on the right side, in the middle of three. Now it's time to connect the dots. Straight line right here. Then a slight curve to the bottom. The only touches the right corner at the two marks we made before. Then another straight line at the other side. Always check the spaces and angles of the shape right here, here and here to make sure where you got it wrong. For the second part of the letter, we create another 2.5 spaces on the right side and another five-and-a-half spaces by the top side. That makes the whole shape 6.5 to 5.5 ports. Mark the point meeting the end of the fourth top square with the end of the fifth right square. Another work at the point meeting the two ends together. By the bottom side. Now from the middle three by the side, Jolla curve and stop here. And continue with a straight line. Then draw what curves starting from the same spot in the middle and reach to the end of the bottom side. If we draw a straight line from the middle to the ending point, we should find a space like this one. Make sure you scale the right and then start the little triangle at the top of the shape, reaching right to the end of the first square. It's the jewel of the letter. This line right here is the baseline. Okay, I'm skipping the coloring. And here is how it looks like. When you add a diamond shape above. That's the it's as simple as that. Next stop is drawing the wall letter. See you. 4. Lesson 2: Drawing Waw (O) First Style in Thuluth Calligraphy: The head of the wall looks like this. Since we already covered the body of the row in the previous lesson, will focus on the head. In this lesson, create a rectangle of two equals basis wide and two-and-a-half spaces long. The corner opposite to the end of square root two on the left side is important. Also the two at the top on both sides. The mark near the end of the top-right square will guide you drawing the curve. Other mark by the half of the left top square and mark the end of the first side square to guide you with the eye shape inside the letter. Draw with your shape like this inside the rectangle. This base left at this corner should be smaller than this one. And the space right here should be the smallest one. But she touches the rectangle at the space between the two top squares here. Also makes sure there's a space at the right side like this one. Some blame the shape in a simpler way. We have two parts. The top part looks like this. The bottom part looks like this. And then the body of the wall looks exactly like the body of rock. But the eye or tear shape inside isn't like this, of course. So the ICP should start in the middle with a semi straight line at the bottom and a curve at the top. Director Ai shapes lightly down by the right side, leaving wider space here than the left side. We can also use the top shape of rock, this one by drawing the tear shape around it. Then delete that the two marks by the top and sought to guide you with the eye shape. And that's the way we used before in the previous class. Because the head of the wall is the same head of fat. And that's it. Next top is drawing me. See you. 5. Lesson 3: Drawing Meem (M) First Style in Thuluth Calligraphy: To draw the mean, we have eight to five rectangle marks at the end of the first tried square and the half of the first offer square. Of course the corners have to be marked as well. And the half of the US that can offer square. Actually, let's leave a tiny space before the end of square root two here. And then let's start with a bracket from the bottom to the top mark. Then go down half the space. Then start from the right middle, then head slightly off to the left, leaving a tiny space between the line you're drawing and the mark. You added another line from the bottom to the left corner to meet the end of the first tried square with the mark you added on the upper seconds squared. Thank creates a flipped the U-shaped that reaches to the middle of square one like this. Again, we have two shapes. This one and that one. Another way to describe the head of meme is a triangle surrounded by brackets with a tiny eye shape in the middle. To draw the buddy, we're back to the middle of the second operator square reaching down to the left side. Then drag the bottom line to the point slightly before the end of the fourth square and the end of the upper fifth squared. The point meeting the last upper square with the middle of the fifth square is where the body ends, but with a straight line this time not a curvy one like the first part of the body. Just like the Rock and Roll. Joe, the upper part to meet the N2. Don't make it a straight line because if you did draw a straight line from here to the end, you should find a space in-between. Again, check this angle and pay attention to all the spaces and corners to make sure you're doing the right shape. I will refine all the lines while coloring, but this should be the final outcome. And that's it. Next up is throwing another style of rock and roll. See you. 6. Lesson 4: Drawing Ra' (R) Second Style in Thuluth Calligraphy: For this style, just like the first throat, draw this shape with a one to 2.5 scale. Then you will need two more equal spaces below it. And four spaces after the sheep. By the end and beginning of the fourth space and the last point of the shape at two marks. Then draw a line from the end of the tip of the letter to the first mark. Then hit up with a curve and meet the left side after half a square. Notice this corner, the shape touches the left side, the beginning of the third side squared. Then it starts gradually heading right till the middle O4 and end of one. The upper curve has a similar path, but the end has to be gradually them like this. Again, check the spaces and angles for any mistakes. Anything seems off, just iterate while coloring. Because that will show you if there is any part too thin or too thick at a diamond above and you have Zane. 7. Lesson 5: Drawing Waw (O) Second Style in Thuluth Calligraphy: S4 wall, since it has the same shape and we already learned how to draw the hair. Then I'm using to draw it. Mark two squares on the side and two above. Joe the head inside. And maintain the right angles. The orange side, and delete any extra costs. And that's it. Next stop, we're having a third style of rock. See you. 8. Lesson 6: Drawing Ra' (R) Third Style in Thuluth Calligraphy: The third style of rock looks like this. That's a very simple and general way to see how it looks like. So start with seven squares up and foresight squares mark half the space of the second side square. And the second upper square leave a tiny space before the end of one and add a mark at where it meets the middle of the upper second square. Start to bracket shape from here and go up an indent where you added a marked been continuously until you meet the other side. The bottom side is somewhat better loon, but starts from the same point. Mark the point where the middle of two on the side with the middle For above meet. Then take the curve there. The bottom curve follows as well, but in a pattern bath. And the line continues till you hit the end of four with the middle of the upper six square. That line wouldn't be as curvy, but it's not straight either. Then mark the end of seven with the middle of three and draw another curve there. Then ended with a straight line to the right up to the beginning of seven and slightly before the upper side. The upper line is better till you reach to the seventh. And losses base of the shape, start narrowing the space to make it end with a sharp point. This curve should have around 3.5 spaces below it. As you can see, the shape has three parts. Always check these sports for mistakes. And make sure the spacing between has room for two squares. That's right here, is the baseline. That part is more strict than the others. And now is the time to edit and color. Here we go. Next stop is another style of me. See you. 9. Lesson 7: Drawing Meem (M) Second Style in Thuluth Calligraphy: My name is very similar to row, but let's start with seven spaces on the top and five on the side. On the right side, mark the end of one, middle of two. Then draw a line like this, leaving a small space at the beginning. On the left side mark the end of seven with the middle five on the same bottom line mark the middle of sex. And inside this imaginary books mark the point where both ends of two and to meet them too from the side and three from the top side. Then draw two lines from both marks, not straight lines. The next part is going to be the end of four from the right with the end of five from the top. Continue the bottom line to this mark and till you reach the lower point, then turn the lineup to the left side, where the middle for me, it's the left side, then back right to the end of sex and end of one. The top line follows the same path, but it's longer to make the end of the letter as thin as possible. All the shapes should feel natural and smooth. So I always start with easy shapes there and find all the lines I want and all the curves to create the outcome I'm looking for. The first part of the letter should have room for three squares below. And before the end of the shape. If we draw a straight line from here, it should meet the start of the final curve of the letter, leaving a space in between to make sure you have the right thickness, not too thin or too wide. Now that we're done with the body, Let's start the head with two squares above and 1.5 on the side. Mark the middle of others seconds square. Then draw a line from the end of the first slide, square to the mark on the top part, then down with a curve to around the middle of the first side squared, thin down slightly to the right, to the middle of the second upper square. And slightly after the end of the second side square. Mark the point where both ends of 1.1 meter then draw a line from this side up to the left. And before it crosses the middle of the first slides square. Turn it around to that point and makes sure that the end of this shape is sharp and thin. The lift shape, the right shape. And that's the general shape of the letter. Make sure this is not a straight line and check that there is room for two squares inside the last part of the letter. That looks like a U-shape. And that sets one more letter and we're done with this group. See you. 10. Lesson 8: Drawing ba' (B) in Thuluth Calligraphy: This is how bad it looks like in this time. 3.5 squares on the side and six-and-a-half squares on the top mark the middle of square two and the bottom line, this coordinate right here and the end of the upper side. Also add two marks here and here. And here. Start with a straight line from the bottom up to the right. Then hidden side with a curve. This part should be sharp. Hits the middle of the second right square, then head-on side and down to the first mark we added at the bottom line. Then up again until you reach the end of the shape with the end of the first sine square. Then inside to the end of the sixth upper square, create a pattern, a line, and you have your letter ready? When we add a diamond under the shape, we have. If we add two above, we have debt. If we add a third diamond, we have fat. That's it. Next up is the class project. See you. 11. Class project : For the class project, I want you to start with the idea. Think what shapes you want to create using these letters. Which group are you using? Or are you going to use a mix of all of them? You don't have to follow the outline in this class in the same order. Because the point is to understand the anatomy of the shapes, not to tell you how you should draw it. If you feel you should start from the end, do it. Explore different options first, when you find something you like, start getting serious with the outline. I prefer this style, so I will use this group. Then I'm duplicating the shape. Then start exploring more. By rotating or flipping. You can create many shapes. Alright, That's my class project, starts yours and share it. And I will see you in the next lesson. 12. Outro: Thank you so much for watching your comments are always welcome. So kindly share your review and your project to help me create better classes in the future, I will share the next group of litters Soon. So kindly follow me for more content on calligraphy. And if you liked this class, took my other classes as well. Thank you so much and bye for now.
