About This Class

Are default Jira workflows slowing your team down? In this hands-on class, you'll learn to build a custom Jira workflow that mirrors how your team actually works: From software development pipelines with code review and QA stages to role-based controls and AI-powered helpers.

Together, we'll build a complete software development workflow in Jira Cloud, step by step. By the end, you'll have a fully functioning workflow with restrictions, validations, actions, and AI agents deployed into your space.

What you'll learn:

  • The core building blocks of every Jira workflow: statuses, transitions, and categories
  • Creating custom statuses like Code Review, Ready for QA, QA Testing, Blocked, and Won't Do
  • Controlling who can move work through restrictions — so only developers can submit code for review, and only QA can complete testing
  • Collecting data at the right moment with request input rules (say goodbye to empty Fixed Version fields)
  • Blocking invalid transitions with validate details rules and custom error messages
  • Auto-assigning work to the right teammate when a status changes, using perform actions rules
  • Triggering AI agents with Rovo to triage work items and suggest improvements on transition
  • Mapping multiple workflows to different work types with workflow schemes (why Bugs can flow differently than Tasks and Ideas)
  • Connecting your workflow to Kanban and Scrum boards so your team sees everything in one place

Who this class is for: Jira administrators, space administrators, and team leads who want workflows that enforce process instead of relying on everyone remembering the rules.

What you'll need: A Jira Cloud site with administrative access. We'll be working with company-managed spaces, but if you use team-managed spaces you'll still get value since the workflow editor works the same way.
