1. Leopard Print Intro : Hi everyone. It's
super exciting. We're having class
on electric print. Today. I will be
your instructor. My name is Alex and I'm
a fashion designer. I specialized in
mentoring cursor tree in Paris to the requests
of previous student. This class offers you to learn how to do
leopard print either with Procreate or with
markers or books. And I want to discuss
to be simple. I wanted somebody from any level to be able
to follow the class. That's why the path is clear and the
explanations are simple. I structured this class
differently than what I did for my previous classes. What I wanted to do with
cyclase to give you a class that was really specific on one subject at a time. And we're going to
focus only on that. And it's just a
skill that you can actually use for anything
else if you want to paint lipid print
on your school book or on an object at your
house. You can do it. You can also follow this
class with paint if you want. The technique is
really reusable for anything that you want after so, yeah, I hope you'll
enjoy and I'm super excited to be able to
present to you this class. And I'll see you
in the next video. Bye.
2. P1- Reference: To start, we're going to need to do a little
bit of research. I would invite you to go on
your laptop or your computer, go on Google and
type the words like print because we need to have a bank of reference
to be able to start. You want to have
something like this. Thinking you want, you want,
it doesn't really matter. You just need to have a point to go back to once you're
doing illustration. And also for the first work
that we're going to do, we need to be able
to deconstruct it so we can take a little piece of that pattern and really
understand how to do it. So that's what we're getting
you to do first on this. Once this is done, we get to go on the next lesson. I'll show you what to do.
3. P2- Deconstruction Leopard Print: For this video, I've
been using Procreate. You can use whatever you want. You can do it simply with
colored pencils if you want to. What I would recommend is
to do it with a few colors. Here, the marker, because
I think they work very well to do the
classic leopard print. If that's the way you're going for and you want to
do it with markers. That's what I recommend. If you do it with Procreate, then there's no specific color. You go with the wheels and I'll show you how
to do the basic, this is not a basic class on
for explaining procreate. That would be a separate class is really for the technique. So if you're doing
it with Procreate, it's expected that, you know, a little bit of Procreate. Other words, we're
going with the markers, we're going with the pencils, and we're going to have fun. So let's start. First step. Let's start by creating some swatches of coal
is in the corner. From the swatches that we created or directly
in the color wheel, you can choose a light beige, and that's the first
one we're going to use to color a large portion. But usually before
anything I like to have all the cars are almost all the colors that
I'm going to use. Here we have two
shades of badge and a black section is to, to do. Since we're doing
it on the iPad, something that's about
the size of your fist. To continue, we're
going to go in the center of the shape
that we just created. We're going to go
into simple section and choose the darker beige. With that, you're
going to want to have a zigzag motion to
create some harsh edge. And also you can make it
a little bit deformed. So you want to go first
circular shape in general, but make it to form. So it's going to make you achieve a little bit
more randomness. Around the center color, we're going to position
the outline of three large bean shapes and
a smaller one to close it. Here I'm just demonstrating the shape of the beam
that I'm talking about. You can see the center escaping in and it's
just really round. Obviously this shape doesn't
have to be perfect at all. It's just to give an
idea and guidelines. After we're done with this, we're going to go and
simple out the black. Imitate and create
similarity with the texture for we can
use as exact technique to fill out bean shapes to make this effect that we want
with a zigzag lines, I would recommend
to make them tight, not equal or perfect. Once it's small, you're
going to see that you don't need to do as many
zigzagging each and pretty much fake it with some motion of your brush
if you're doing it by hand. So all that is things as we're going to cover
in the next lesson. But to do it in big
at first and with the outline really helps
to do it without it after. And it's a very good
practice to get comfortable with emotion
and to visualize as well. Slow it is that simple. And you'll see the next step
that we're going to do. It has the regular size but
all compact with each other.
4. P3- Reconstruction: Okay, so now let's consider the construction with
making the actual print. And now we want to do the same process as
we just achieved, but in smaller scale. We're going to start by coloring the base color,
the lighter badge. So for the markers I'm using the color break badge
in Prismacolor. Then I like to
position that despots. I take a darker shade
from the previous color. I roughly spread them around not too close
from each other. It's a good way when
you're doing it on paper to feel less stressed
for the placement. And it gives you a good
visual idea right away. But also mentally, you
can skip this step. If you feel comfortable going
right away with blacks, you can skip to the next step. Otherwise, if you feel more comfortable going
gradually to start with the spot and then follow up to the next step for just fired
for you introduce blacks. So if you're going with markers, simply choose a black color, doesn't matter the
brand does she use? You can even do
it with sharpies, our width would pencils.
It's really up to you. We're going to
create a spots like previously shown in the example. You'll notice if you're
doing it with markers, that you don't need to do as much details to
form the shapes. More you practice
this motion with your wrist more you
will feel comfortable. And I personally
found that when you start going a little bit faster, that it gives more personality
and more fluids due to the shapes to create this pattern compact
in a smaller scale, I like to add variation in the number of dots in the shape. When I say dots, I'm talking
about the bean shape. So it's always going to
be between three to four. Some will be more
merged together, giving a C-shape
and some will be more separated with those
different types of opening. I think it adds variation
and makes it more realistic, awesome, so we're all
good to go with this. You can practice a little
bit more if you've feel like you need a
little bit more practice. Otherwise, we can start
already with the next step. So we're going to have
two different options. Obviously it as one that's
made with procreate. So if you want to skip
this step, go ahead. You can still watch it even
though you're using markers because there's still some tips that can be useful to you. Otherwise, I'm pretty much
we're saying everything in the video that's following
the one with Procreate, where are we going to
do the illustration but with markers. So the two next videos are
for doing illustrations. One with Procreate,
one with markers. And now we get to the fun
part begins to integrate the pattern that we created into any type of illustration. I created a few example
for this class. If you're able to show you
what type of things again, do just to inspire you. But treaty and you
can do whatever you want. That's
the beauty of it. I'm going to show you a
few things that I created.
5. P4 Procreate illustration: First by green,
the layer section, if you have drawn with
more than one layers, like I did so I did the lines
on two different layers. You can merge them together. So when you click on your layer, you get the menu on the side. And under menu you
can see merged down. So it's going to
merge with the layer that is right under it. The two ears are gonna become one layer to make
things more clear. Now, we're going to
rename this menu. Click again on it, click on Rename and write lines. Now you're going to press on the top right corner
the plus symbol. And it's going to
add a new layer. By holding that new
layer with your finger. You can drag it on there, the other layers, so position
it under the lines layer. This way the paint will go under the lines
and not over them. You want also to
rename this layer. So we're going to rename it base color whenever
certain illustration. I'm always going to begin by choosing the colors
that I'm going to use. And then in the corner, not too far from
the illustration, I'm gonna do spots
of those cars. So whenever I'm
gonna be drawing, it's going to be much faster
to just sample that color and then your pencil is going to take right away that core so
you don't have to go into, we'll try to find a course. It's right there on
your illustration. So that's a trick
that I've found that was helping me to
go much faster. I have to having
prepared to swatches, we have to choose our brush. I like to take something that looks a little bit
like watercolor. And there's one that does a
very good effect for that. And it's the flat brush. And I believe that's the
one I'm using in this case, and it's totally free. It comes with the
original preset of Procreate on a new layers that
we can call leopard print. We're going to start
this Thoughts. I'm going to go with
the water pen brush, but there's so many others
that have great texture. So you can just play around and choose one that you prefer. If you don't particularly
like this one. You can try to do it without the middle car portion as well. That's what I'm gonna
do in this example. I'm just starting to
place them around. The nice thing about
working digitally is that you don't need to draw
every single one of them. After what I want to
put your attention towards is the folds
in the fabric. That's how we can integrate the leopard print much better. But you want to do is
space, stem, wall space. If what you want to do
is to space a few of them from one side
and from the other. But you don't want them to get right in front of each other. By displacing them like that, you're going to
create the illusion that there's actually a fault. I'm going to make the rest of this portion go a
little bit faster. I'm gonna steal it up and keep
watching until the end to know how to duplicate
it and what I'm doing. To finalize this type
of illustration, I'm going to add the
shade of darker badge, certain specific
spot in the code. I'm using the brush
rectangle to do that. And I'm going to
go really roughly just passing over it and not going in detail passing where I think the
shadow is going to go. This is more of a rough
surface illustration that I wanted to go for. So I'm going to do it
mostly in the center and only if the outside
so like if the court was getting delight from
behind or from the side. Once I have a big enough section with enough variation
that are made, you can duplicate the
layer and drag it in an other area by selecting the mouse on the left top menu, place them AND function that the shapes look so pretty
side-by-side because you don't need to
worry too much about if they're going a
little bit outside of the illustration because
we can pass after with the eraser and
clean it all up. Let's do that and make
it all nice and clean. By taking the eraser, I'm just going to pass around the edges of my illustration. And it's just gonna look
so much neater and pretty, and I didn't have to worry about doing every single
one of the spots. So this is really
fast trick to do, just to accomplish much
faster your illustrations. Alright, so that was offered the portion with
digital illustrations. I hope that was practical and useful to you
and that you will enjoy using the lipid print in some of your drawings
or illustrations.
6. P5 With Markers This Time!: For this portion I
prepared in advance and illustrations
wherever didn't know if I already have
my illustration, I will quickly pass over with
a very fine pressure with the HB pencil and trace over the guidelines
of my drawing. Obviously, this is starting
from my own illustration, which you can download as
well if you want to start from it and just
practice otherwise, feel free to use your
own illustration if you want to add the pattern inside of shoe design and style of a purse design that
you're creating. Go ahead if you want
to use this video to actually add the
pattern on an object, on a physical object, on a book, on
anything. Go ahead. You can fold this view the
same way it's gonna work. So once you have your
initial drawing, your initial unchecked ready, we can start to the next step. I know that it's kind
of hard to see right now in the video
because it's so pale, but you really don't want to
have dark outline for this. I know we're passing really fast over the concept
of close here. I have classes specifically
on that subject. I have Lynch everyone as well. I just wanted to receive
that since it's a class we specialize on the leopard print. So now we're going to continue. Now I start by sketching
the outline of the brow, the under wire, the
elastic, the lice starts. Once we have the
base that is trace, we can move to the
market portion. For the card that I'm using. The first marker is the
Marker copic eat 3d1. But think Bash here, I'm going to start
with my light bys and we're gonna
put it everywhere, do things I wanted to say first
one, don't do like I did. I always, usually start from the opposite side
from my writing hand. This way you eliminate
the risk of smudging the color everywhere with your hand when you're
passing over it. The second thing is
when you use marker, if you desire to
create a shadow, you should paint by
portion and pass over the shadow rapidly
while the ink is still wet, thus removing the risk
of harsh delimitation. It's also good to note
that using a paper that is made to
work with markers makes a huge difference
in the final resort because the ink does it
absorbed the same way. For example, you'll see a very big difference
if you start using printer papers and then
you switch to marker paper. If you think you're having
harsh line with your shadows, start by verifying if you're using the
right type of paper. And after that, look, if you're spending maybe a little bit too much time before you're passing over where you want to create your shadows. Here's a demonstration
to show how to create shadows
with the markers. And you'll see it at
a certain angle that the ink is still
wet on the paper. As you can see, I can build gradually into a darker color, even by starting with
very, very light colors. I'm showing you if you
don't go gradually, how you get that
harsh delimitation. The second marker that
we're using is the marker Prismacolor Pm 199 Mcal light. In the case of this
specific illustration, we're gonna make them
relatively small. I would say that it's
about half the size of a rice grain for the proportion. And after that's where
you're gonna go with black so you can take any brand
that you want for it. I personally like to use the
Copic because of the end. That is a little bit
soft and pointy. So it is like how you can
apply the pressure with it. How do you know the drill? So
we gonna go around every of the darker by spot
that we just created. And we're going to create our
leopard print bad Turner. As a personal choice, I decided to have the elastic
and the webbing is black. For what concerns, delays and doing the controlling
of the illustration. Usually I'm gonna go
with fine line markers. And to that I'm doing a
little test to show you all the different size of fine line markers for this case. Since I'm doing lace, I want it to be the
finest that I have. I'm going to go with the
smallest number to do that work. And also we can continue in the part two to
add some shadows. And to do that, I'm going to use simply some wood colored pencil.
7. P5 With Markers This Time! (Part 2): Before anything else. The first thing that I'm using the fine line markers for it's to correct each line just to make sure that they're
nice and crisp. Then I'm going over
the last portion with the black wood pencil just
to create a differentiation. That again, as a personal taste. Since we have already used marketers a lot in
this illustration. And I don't want to
risk to smudge it. If I have a little bit of humidity on my
hands or something, I will be using Kleenex and that's where I will be posting my hand while I'm
gonna be drawing. This is a good trick as well. If you did a mistake that I did earlier and you started
from the wrong side, this works as well. For delays, I went with
something really simple. I just did motif. You can go really
complicated inlays. That's why I didn't want to do a very intricate one because that's a whole
different subject. But for the purpose
of this video, I think that works fine. After that, we're
going to go with a brown wood pencil
just to add some shadow into the shear type of fabric
for the parts of the cups. To use. The wood pencil
usually I'm gonna use it a little bit
from this side, like you can see in the video. And I'm going to give a very light pressure because I don't want to
have harsh delimitation. I want everything to
merge perfectly together. I'm basically using
that brown it with pencil to create more shadows, some going in the lower
part under the cups because that's where if you
had the breast and the cups it would create shadow. So that's why I'm using it for just to create a little bit
more three-dimensional. To finish the piece, I'm erasing the marks that I did
for the body a sense. The only thing I wanted this T illustration itself
to show the product. That was it for this class. It was a shorter
version version of what I'm usually doing
for classes. Yeah. I was trying
something different, trying to do it more specific to other subject in particular. Let me know if you'd
liked this format, if you would like to
have more of this style, I can do a lot of different textures for fashion
illustration or others. Or if you would prefer me to go more in the Procreate Fromm. Give me your
insights. Tell me if you like the class,
if you enjoyed, if you did some
cool stuff with it, that would be so
happy to see it.
