Hello, I'm Saniya. I am a self taught Artist born in India currently residing in California. Academically I have done my Master's in Computer Science, worked in corporate for more than 7 years.

Since early childhood I loved to draw and paint. When i started my higher studies i completely gave up on Art as I was more occupied with studies, but somewhere deep inside I always had the urge to paint.

While working for a corporate firm during COVID times i realized that, life is very precious. And i don't want to spend my entire life working for someone else. I just wanted to do something that makes me happy. There was just one thing apart from my family that makes me happy "Painting", that's when i decided to take my hobby to next level.

Quitting my corporate job and wor... See full profile

1. Introduction to Class: Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time. Hey everyone, My name is Sonya and I am an artist and Bay Area, California. Welcome to my acrylic impasse to painting class. This class is perfect for beginners and also those who have absolute 0 experience in painting. Today we are going to learn this particular impasto, painting technique, which is also called as textured. Or you can create different types of textures or as shown in the image. 2. Getting closer look at Requirements: Let's start with taking a look at our requirements list. These are the few knives I'll be using throughout the painting. Although it's not necessarily to use all these knife. These are absolute optional to whatever shape you want your texture out to be. You will need one flat brush just to paint the background. And I have just taken random two blue colors and titanium white. 3. BAckground and Preparing Impasto Paste: Let's start our painting with coloring the background of the canvas. Ya, particularly, I am using white color for the background. And absolutely I'm not adding any other color because my today's color combination is going to be white and blue. And I want to keep my painting really cool and peaceful and beautiful. And I don't want to use any bright colors. It's absolutely optional if you want to use any other color combination. I'm using a flat brush to spread the titanium white on the canvas. You can use any flat brush that is available for you. The size of the flat brush? Absolutely depends upon the size of your canvas. If you have a smaller canvas like I have, you can always prefer taking a smaller flat brush so that it's more convenient to paint the background. I'm just making sure your every nook and corner of my canvas is cupboard. And my background looks nice and clean. And there's no space where my canvas is visible, although it's a white color. I'm making sure that my entire canvas is covered. Now we are heading towards preparing our molding paste or impasto pays for today's painting. For this particular painting I'm using golden brands modelling paste. You can use any other brands modelling paste depending upon the availability. I prefer golden because it really has a thick consistency and the consistency which is required for this particular painting. It makes it really easy and smooth to make texture in art using this particular modelling paste, I have to prepare like three lumps of impasto pastes. The blue shade, the white shade, and a little darker blue shade. Now this is absolutely optional if you want to use any other colors over here. So I'm keeping my painting minimum, minimal. That's why I am using just two colors over here. You can always go ahead and experiment on the colors for the texture that you're the quantity which I'm using for the space is 50% of modelling paste and the rest of this white color. You can definitely go ahead and add more of modelling paste and less soft color. Like 75 or twenty-five. Seventy-five. Twenty-five percent. Yeah. Even that combination works nice. But specifically for white color, I prefer using 5050 as a want the color to look more white and I don't want it to have the dull color of the modelling paste. It. We're creating another lump for impasto textured add. So I'm just using cobalt blue color here. Little white to it, so that it turns out to be nice light blue color. You can add white color depending upon the shades of your painting or the color combination of your painting and whichever way you want. And after the glasses are word, don't forget to leave a review for my class and leave your feedback. As your feedback will really helped me to improve my glasses and I'll get to know exactly what, what's good in my class or what's missing element in my class. Also do let me know if you want to learn any specific impasto painting for my next upcoming Skillshare class. I've used the same technique you to create another lump of impasto pace, just a more lighter color than the previous one. You can skip this step if you just want to use two colors like blue and that's, that's absolutely fair. 4. Learning Textured Impasto Art: Let's start with the fun part of today's painting tutorial that is, starting with the textured or technique. I'm using this particular knife which is triangular in shape and as a little smaller size, because my canvas is off a little smaller size. That's why I preferred a knife off a little smaller size. Now you're, you need to observe the way in which I am filling colors and my knife, because that's really very important to have enough color in your life before you go on the canvas, directly. After you are filling the color and the knife, makes sure you press the knife gently against the canvas and lifted up immediately, slowly. But immediately. You don't need to spread it much because if you spread it match the shape of your flowers will not be as accurate as you can see in the picture. You need to fill color and your knife and make sure the edges are clean before you put the impasto based on your canvas. As you can observe the way in which I am lifting colors and my knife over you. You need to press your knife very gently towards the canvas and lifted up so that it gets a perfect she booked leave. Now you're just randomly putting leaves and clause wherever I want on the canvas as as when you're painting, you can judge it yourself as, as to where you want the flowers or the LI for exactly whatever shape you want. But according to my experience, I feel that whenever you are doing a texture odd on Canvas, it doesn't matter whatever shape or size it is, like as long as they are neat and clean shape because it's always going to end up looking beautiful. Make sure while you're painting this, you are enjoying the process. You're having fun while creating the painting. You're bending may not turn out to be exactly like that of mine. But I'm sure if you're enjoying doing that, it's definitely going to turn out really beautiful, or maybe much better than that of mine. Don't forget to share your projects. Finishing this class, I would really love to see what you have come up with after learning these techniques in this class. Take your time. Take your time to see where, what shape you can put. As I've told you earlier, also, while you're doing the texture, that it really doesn't matter where you're putting what shape until it's a good shape. And the dean sheep, I decided to use just one night throughout my painting. You can always experiment using different shapes of night, like the round one, the square one, and all to the other shapes. Also you can create different flowers than that of mine. Like you can use a round shape knife and create another flower. Something different shape. That's absolutely fine. This is the second technique. How we can use a knife. The first is in the street direction, and the second one, um, and you can use your knife and bolded addiction from front as well as from back. You can always turn your Canvas according to your convenience. As you can see. Like I'm not really comfortable keeping my canvas in one position and then making textured. I always feel more comfortable turning the direction of the canvas according to my comfort level. Make sure you have enough color in your life so that your painting looks really nice and textured. Now your value of making and texture out the modelling paste which you are using does have a lot of important because depending upon the texture of the modelling paste you can, your painting looks different like some of them have a little glossier look, some of, some of them have a little sandy a look. So that's why I prefer using golden modelling paste because it's really nice and has the perfect consistency for textured or technique. And also thing. While you are creating a texture or dislike, make sure you're using good quality of Canvas. Because in Barstow painting or textured art painting has really thick textures and it really needs a good Canvas. And if your canvas is not good enough, your painting is not going to turn nice even though you put a lot of effort into that. And even, even though you use the best modelling paste over there, also make sure you use the proper thicker canvas for level three or maybe level two will also work over here. I'm just trying to paint some random plasma urine. They told the Canvas your I had created two shades of blue and I'm using them randomly. Wherever I feel like. This is something you need to decide on the goal for this shape. What shape you want and vey you exactly want to place that shaped flowers or whatever you are doing. But just make sure that before you start the painting you have a rough idea in your mind, like what the color combinations might look like or what shapes of texture that you want. Continue making the same flowers. Take your time to decide where you want to place your next shape. Because even if you look at my tutorial and even if you follow each and every step, there are chances that Jacobian thing might look very much different than that of mine. So it's really up to you to decide where you have to place a particular shape. There's no particular logic or particular technique and decided to where you need to place which shape It's absolutely random. Make sure you keep a little bit of space between your two shapes so that it doesn't look too much crowded. Yes, I guess that's that's pretty much for today's painting. Do share your projects at the end of this class and let me know your feedbacks you'll review about this class and also what you would like to see in my next class. Just getting some final touches to make sure that I've covered the entire canvas space. 5. Finale : So here we are at the vanilla episode of our today's textured or the basso painting. Do share your projects. I reviews feedbacks on this particular class and do watch my other impasto painting classes and let me know what you would like to learn in my next class also. So in this today's class, we learn this particular painting, a textured, odd painting. You can use the same technique to create different types of painting as you can see on your screen, that I've created different kinds of painting using the same technique. So do share your projects with different color combinations and thank you so much.
