1. Intro FIW: Hi everyone, welcome
to this class. My name is DeVos three and I am an artist best out in India. In this class, I am going
to teach you how to paint this gorgeous flower
scene window painting. I have taught this painting
to hundreds of my students, and they proudly hang
it on their walls. I created this painting
on four-by-four feet, and it is the center of
attraction in my apartment. After finishing this class, you will also be able to create this painting as
big as you want. I will stop this class by teaching you the basic
acrylic blending, color studies, and knife
walks used in this painting. I will also show you all
the supplies I used. And then in a six-step process, you will learn all
the techniques to be able to create this
painting on your own. And finally, I will tell you how to paint it on a bigger Canvas. So get all your supplies and get ready for this beautiful
acrylic adventure. I look forward to seeing
you inside the class.
2. Art Materials: Let's go over all
the art materials that I will be using
in this class. I have used a canvas board, nine by 11 inches. For this class. You need three brushes, flat brush and two round brush. One round brush, a
little bit bigger, which is size 31,
is a liner brush. So these are three brushes. And a very important
thing that you need for this painting is a knife. Now, this is the
night that I have chosen for this size canvas, which is nine by 11 inches. You need a plate. Does scale, and Spain pencil for outlining the window.
A masking tape. This is actually
quite a scotch tape. Some tissue papers,
glass of water. Okay. So for the
colors, I have used, both fluid acrylics and thick
body acrylics in fluid. Actually, it's the colors
that I have used, this pink, brown, yellow, blue,
orange, and white. And in the pig body acrylics, I have used green sap green, lemon, yellow,
quinacridone, red. But if you have crimson red, that's also the same color. Black. Alpha waiter have used both thick body acrylic
and the fluid acrylics. If you don't have
fluid acrylics, you can definitely use the body actually is
Anthony down with water. But for the knife
part of the painting, It's definitely mandatory to
use the tape body acrylics. So all the peat layer
of the painting, which is like the background, the wall texture, the
leaves and the flowers. For those, I have used
the thick body acrylics. Alright, so I have a link on all the products down in
the description box below, so you can have a look at them
and get whatever you need.
3. Exercise - Acrylic Blending: Let's go through some
acrylic blending. The color really doesn't matter. I have chosen two colors
that I really like. You can grab any
colors you want, your favorite colors and you can start
practicing with me. So I have taken a kilo blue and yellow ocher,
these two colors, and I'm going to mix
it with black and white and show you how we can blend one color with black and white and
also with each other. So this can be done
with multiple colors. But for the sake
of this exercise, I am just choosing two colors. Grab any brush, small
size brushes spine, or a little bigger
results, so good. This is size two that I'm using. So I'll start with
a pillow blue. So I have on Barkers chosen
a very dark color so that I can blend it with white and show you how
the blending watts. So for blending, you first
take one color and then gradually start
taking another color and you keep blending into it. Now, if you take too much
of the second color, what happens is my first
color is almost not visible. In blending, what we want
to do is we want to move from dark to light or one
color to another color. So I added little bit more
color blue to get the duction. And I just went up
and down a couple of times to get the gradation
of dark to light. So this is the very basic
of actually blends. Okay, now there are two types, two ways you can do
the same blending. So in this one, as you can see, all these jokes, all my strokes
are visible here, right? So this is the kind
of blend that I like. But if you don't like it
and you want to go over it a couple of more times and
give it a smooth blend. What you can do is you
start off with one color. You move to the next color. And you want to keep
a very smooth one. So all you have to do is just go over it multiple times. Here. I didn't go over
it a lot of times. If you go over it a lot
of times up and down, you are going to get this kind of smoothness in your blending. Or you can use a little bit
of water also that also helps in very smooth blend if that is what
you'll want to do. Okay? So this can be degradation
of the sky or the leg, whatever you want it. Now let me show you by mixing different kinds how this looks. So for this one, what I'm doing here is I'm taking little bit
of black over here. So mixing black and blue first. And then I am mixing
white with it. Blending or means
you just move from one color to another without, in a very smooth way, in a gradual way rather. Okay, So this is, this is another
kind of blend where you use multiple colors
with black as well. Now, all the three
that I have done here, you'll see I have done it
in horizontal strokes. So not necessarily it has
to be horizontal stroke, it can be any stroke. So let me use the
yellow ocher little bit now to show you
what I have taken. This one. And then I'm taking a
little bit of yellow, blue. And you'll see look
at my brushstrokes. I'm not going in
horizontal direction, rather going in a
random direction. And I'm mixing these two colors. How we did the horizontal
blending similarly, you can do a vertical lending, maybe dark to light
however you want. But this is a very
different kind of blending that I'm
showing you now, which is in a very
random fashion. You are not blending in a
horizontal or vertical way. You are mixing the colors
all into each other. So I generally like
doing blending in this way because it
shows the strokes. Also. It fun to do. So try this out. If you have not done this. And you can see the colors
are blending into each other. Now, let me do one
more type of blend. For that, I am using
the yellow ocher, moving from side-to-side,
mixing it up with black. Remember, like I said, blending can be done
with any color, whatever, you know, whatever your painting and
whatever color you need to. It's totally fine. I'm
just for the demo purpose, I am using these colors. How beautiful shades by
blending two colors. So try this out and see what color you are
getting by mixing two colors. And you come up with so
many variety of color by, by being able to blend
two colors smoothly. So you'll see here also
we are moving from dark to light
sideways like this. Let me do one final one. So for the land, normally, I like to do this kind of blending when I'm
painting a landscape. Kind of go over each other
and blend the two colors. So that's it. Check
out how many colors, shades we created
and how well we blended the colors
into each other. There are so many strokes
that are visible. Like I said, if you don't want your stroke wants to be visible, you can add little bit of
water with it while you're blending and you will get a
very smooth blend like this. Or if you want the
strokes to be visible, don't use water, just use the paint and blend
into each other. So practice this little bit. If you're new to acrylics, this will give you a
very good confidence in blending two different colors and give you a very good
convincing painting.
4. Exercise - Color Study: Now let's go over
all the colors and see how the mixed
with each other. So I'm going to start with all the fluid acrylics that I'm going to
use in this class. Starting with being. Now, if you don't have pink, you can always use cream sundried and tone
it down with white. If you mix it with white, you'll get this beach. The mixed colour
we used is white, yellow, or this
is chrome yellow, but you can find it as
cadmium yellow in your stash, probably because the name
chrome yellow is not available on this in all brands. So this is Chrome
Yellow and this is the color it goes to
once you mix it with white. Now, let's see how this
two colors mix with each other and what is
the color that we get. So this has been this is yellow. And when you mix them, you get a beautiful orange. Now you can vary the
proportion of the pink and the yellow that you have and create different
shades of this colour. So let me start off
with the absolute dark. So this is the
absolute dark colour. And now let me start
mixing it with white. And ultimately you come to
this beautiful piece of ****. So these are all the shades
we're going to use in the background of the painting. Now, this is morphing. Now, if I add more yellow to it, let's see. What is
the color that. And it is. Just like mixing these two colors. You can get this
color or this color. So this is even more
pinkish orange. Okay. So I hope you got the understanding of how
this kind of speaks. Now, let me show you. So this is actually very
much similar to Orange. So you see that
orange color over here is just a
little more vibrant. But if you don't
want to use orange, you can just mix pink and
yellow and get this color. And also let me show you, if you don't have a feeling, you can use a crimson, red and white to see
that exact same shade. All you need is a lot of white and tiny bit
of crimson red. And you see, we just get
the exact same shade of pink and now you can mix it with yellow to get the desired shade that you want. So it's exactly the
same shade that we got in the previous
exercise in this area. Right. But this is done using concentrate
and not the big. Similarly, if I use less of claims in red
and more of yellow, we get again this same ****. Also in the in the flowers, they shouldn't be going to use just creams and red and white. So let me show you the
colors that you can get. So this is when you use
the direct creams in red, which is what we're going to
use for pineapple and red. That is also very similar
to creams in pain. And then we're going to
mix it up with the white and we're going to get this beautiful color
in the flower. And we can mix it up also in some places and have a mix of
white and speaking our red. And this is the color we get. Now, let me show you
how to create blue. So teal blue is a color
that I always get as that. What if I don't have it? So this is a color
that I get directly from the particular brand, and so I like using it
directly from the bottle. But if you don't have
this color exact, you can create it very easily. The ways of creating it
is one is turquoise deep. So if you have this
color, you can use this. And this is very
similar to Halo Blue, so I'm thinking a little
bit of blue as well. And blue is just a
little lighter version of the same color. So let me start with Blue first. So this is Halo Blue and mix it up with white so you can see
this is a little bluish. All you have to do is
take a little bit of viridian hue and
this tiny bit of it. You can adjust the
color a little to stick a little bit in to it and
pinning down with white. So you'll get this
exact feel blue shade that I have right. Now let's do it with the dog
with deep calories then. So this is the claw. Mix a little bit of
it in here with it. So this is the
absolute dark shade of pale blue, you could say. And now let's add light to this. This is a little
bit more greenish, but it's very much
similar to the. Til that I had to go. Okay, so that's how
you can create till the next colour composition
that I want to show you is by mixing the tea
body acrylics of black, soft, green and yellow. These are the colors
we're going to use in the leaf section. So let's start with that. So this is the black. Now you can use lemon yellow
directly with the black, and you can get a very
beautiful olive green. So this is the colour
that we want to be using a little bit by mixing
black and yellow. And then I'm going to
mix a little bit of sap clean and here as well. So you get a brighter
version of the dream. And now let's meet all
the three corners. So I will use Black
Sabbath cream to it. Lemon yellow to it. All the three colors mixed up. So we're going to switch
between these colors to get the different desired shade of the green that we
want in the paint. Okay. And one last
thing I want to show you is mixing the colors, brown and black, that
we're going to use in the center of the in
the of the window. So this is the
brown that I used, which is from the Fiddlehead. Now, if you don't have
it, you can use Valencia. So I took out a little
bit of bones here now. And let me show you the difference in the
color that happens. So this is black and
this is my brown. And when I mix black and brown, this is the color I get. Okay. And now let me mix
one Sienna and black. This is the color. So honestly, it doesn't make a difference. What I would use the
same shade you'll see in the center of the window, because it's going
to be more black and very less of the brown ****
that's showing through. You can also use if you don't have
either of these colors, if you have orange,
you can use that. Also, so this is black and if you use orange
directly with it, you'll get this
brownish shade as well. And you get this trauma
visible quite a bit. So just to understand so this is the one we
did with Orange. This we did with the top row and this one
we did with the buttons. Sienna. So that's all
about the color study. Look at all the beautiful
colors that we created. And these are all the
colors that we're going to be using in this class. So practice this or
you can just watch it to get an understanding of
all the colored pretty.
5. Exercise - Knifework: Okay, let's go over
the knife techniques, the basic knife
techniques that will help you create these painting
with confidence. There are three places where we are going to use
the knife techniques. So there are basically
three different techniques. First one is in
the wall texture, which is in the background. So these strokes, this
is the first technique. The second one is creating
this green textures over here. And the third technique
is painting the flowers. Scope. The colors I'm using for demonstration purpose is just
to white and paler blue. And I might use a
little bit of black. Alright, so for the
very first technique, you pick up quite a bit of white or whatever
paint you're using and you see you are not producing the entire
paint onto the canvas. What you're doing
is you're adding it and then gradually
dragging it out. Now let's use a little bit of Taylor Blue with it so
that you understand how it's looking. Okay. There you go. We're going to use some
black also in this process. So you mix the colors and
then you go over like this. You see the peak of the
paint has to be visible. So if you're doing this
for the first time, it might, you might feel a little difficulty in doing
it. So just practice it. Just a couple of strokes
are not rough sketch book. And you will be able to do it very confidently
on the painting. Okay. So that is your number one. For the ticking number two, this is what is going to happen. So you've got to
take the peak body actually acts like this. I am going to use some yellow, blue, also some black. And you are going to
push the paint around. In this way. Use your knife to give
all these directions. So you see how nicely
it is being formed. Again, you take
quite a bit of pain, so you need a lot of paint for doing this
technique of the lease. So you add on the paint and then you switched it
around like this. And you can actually
use it like this to create some of the
leaves in this fashion. All it needs is quite
a bit of paint. And you get to create
really lovely textures. Right now what I'm doing is rather than using the
back of the night, I am using the site of
the night to create some of the leaves that
are on the outside. Also mixing off two
to three colors gives you this beautiful
formation that's forming here. For the lease, we're going
to use that green lab, lemon, yellow, and black. So you are going to get a mix
of these colors like this. Okay, and now let's create the final thing
which is the flower. So again for that, you'll pick up quite a bit of paint and you put
a block like this. And then you swallow
it around like this. You see how beautiful. And then what you do
is with the Palo, you go over it and give this
swaddle look more prominent. And that's how you
create the blog. So you can alternate
the color also. So let's say I am
taking the teal blue. I'm swirling it around. Let's use some black also. So we're going to create two
types of flowers, right? One dark color,
one light colors. So this is exactly how you do. The technique is just the same, just the colors
are going to vary. You understand how easy this is. All you have to do
is, once again, pick up quite a bit of paint. Would you turn your Canvas? And then with the
tip of your knife, just move it around
a little bit. And with a different
color you can come and add some strokes like this. You'll get them real
close and you can see how nice thick creamy
texture they look. Look at the leaf part. And this is the one bond. So just practice this out a little bit before we
get onto the canvas. And you will do an excellent
job with the painting.
6. Step 1 - Background: So let's start with the
first tape of the painting. So for the first step, I'm going to take
out three colors. White, lots of white, little bit of yellow, and just a little bit of pink. Now I'm taking my size
eight flat brush. You can take whichever this
is the one I have right now. You can take a
little bigger Also. I want to use the
smallest size, brush, little bit smaller to create
lots of texture. Why? I am on this first layer
of painting, canvas. Okay, so let's dig in. The first thing I'm doing
is adding a lot of white. Okay? Now just after a
couple of strokes, what I'm going to do
is a lot with white. I'm going to pick up tiny bit
of yellow on one corner of the brush and tiny bit of pink on the other
corner of the brush. Alright, and now I go on top of this white that I added
and I mix all of this up. You'll see the color
that we are forming. So you can take
maybe a bit more, come here and mix it up. So you see when you mix it up, this is the color you get. Now, I do not
recommend mixing it up on your plate
and picking it up. Because then what you do is
you create just one shade, mixing all the three colors. Right now we don't want that. So that's why every time you mix an pick up the color
on the canvas, you are creating a
slightly different shade. Right? You see over here it's a
little bit more pinkish. Maybe next time you pick up
a little bit more of yellow. So it will be a little
bit more yellowish. So you see there
are varieties of shapes that are being
presented on the canvas. And that is exactly how I like. It gives a little more
dimension to the painting. Also, the shade again
depends on you. I really like light shade. So I'm keeping it, keeping the white
and really a lot, but I will just do a
little bit more of it and show you how you can keep
it a little darker also. So now I have taught this painting a lot
of times and I've seen people create
different shades of color. But we showed itself.
You can see there are so many varieties of color. You can have variety of
color like I have sheets, or you can just choose
one of them whichever you like and keep it all
same throughout. Okay? But our ultimate
purpose of doing this is covering up the
whole Canvas really wet. I am going to take a bit
more of yellow and pink. You see over here is
so much orange-ish. So have fun with this step. Create the shape that you like. The direction does
not matter over here. So you can actually go in whichever direction you want to. And for this state, you need a lot of white. As you can see, yellow
and pink are pretty much the same amount that I've taken out
at the beginning. And why tweet quite a bit. I'm just going in whichever
direction I feel like going, It's really doesn't matter much. Also, one more thing
about acrylic paints is that acrylic paints
dry pretty fast. So I do not take
out a lot of paint. While it's starting to paint. I keep taking them out as
and when they are home. That way, you don't
waste a lot of paint. Also, one more thing
makes sure that you are actually covering
the entire canvas. Because sometimes if you
don't pick up a lot of paint, you can see through some of the canvas is in
some of the places. So that's why I'm
going over a couple of places multiple times to make sure that I'm completely covering all of
the white canvas. Now, one extra, bonus
tip for you guys. What I like doing is after
finishing my canvas board, if I am painting
on a canvas board, which is what I'm
doing right now. It says you can see I'm
just darkening up some of the places as I like. I like going over the ages, teen age around the canvas
board and coloring it up. Because I just feel it
gives a really nice mood. Finish the painting. If you're confused about which direction to
take while painting. I would suggest if it
is comfortable for you just to go in
vertical directions because that can never go wrong. Because ultimately we are
painting one right now. So this is the wall. So any direction,
it's fine because there's lot of elements that
want to come on top of it. But you can really
go in any direction. But if you need some direction, I would suggest vertigo. That's all. I'm going to keep it this way. So this is in doff
your step one. And now I will let it
dry completely and then I'll show you what
to do in the next step. I think it will take at least five to ten minutes for this color to get dried off. It's pretty wet right now. Okay. And then wash off my brush.
7. Step 2 - Sketch the window: Now in the next step, we are going to draw out
the window on the canvas. So my canvas has
completely dried. Now. There's no stickiness. I have given it around
the ten to 15 minutes by now and scale and a pencil. And we're going to sketch
out the window over here. Okay, So before doing
the actual mark, I'm very roughly
kind of eyeballing the place of the window, so I'm going to darken
it a little later. So this is where
my lines come down and this is where the Kindle. When I ask them to keep around three fingers space on the side
for doing the wall. And this is for a nine
by 11 inches canvas. So depending on the size of
the canvas that you're doing, you can figure out the space
that you want to feel it. I would suggest that don't
keep too much of a space. Alright? So I am just drawing the
vertical lines at the moment. It just a little bit is here
and that is totally fine, nothing to worry about. And now I'm darkening
the outline. And there you go.
My window is done. Okay. And at the bottom here we are going to just
do a straight line. Most of these is
going to be hidden by the flowers coming over here. So just a straight line
over here is fine. Now, if you have difficulty, because I have noticed my students having difficulty
with doing this line, you can get some sort
of roundish object, like a bowl or plate or whatever you get that would
fit this curve line. You can use it to
create the car. And the best part of
doing the pencil is if you feel you are
not happy with it, you can always erase it
off and do it again. We are going to create a
few more lines inside. So if you feel like
I didn't really like doing it with a
paintbrush directly. But I'm just going to give you a little guide or doing a
straight line so you can, just, since you have to
pay insulin scale, what you can do is just go
around it and create one mole. Okay? Your while painting it becomes
a little bit easier if we do only for the center one. And honestly, this does not
really make a difference because we're going
to paint it all black and then we're going
to create these lines. But you can just do it so that you know where
the lines are. So all we're doing is in
between the same two part. We are creating two
lines like this. And in the vertical area, we're going to
create three lines. So first, you divide it into half and create the center line. Create one on the top,
one on the bottom. Now, like I said, we're
going to paint it all dark, so all the lines are
going to get vanished. But at least you have some rough idea and you
know what We'll go where. Similarly on this area also, we are going to create
some more lines like this, this, this. But again, they will all also, we are not going to
invest our time in creating these lines
at the moment. Okay, so that is
your second step. Sketching out the
complete window.
8. Step 3 - Wall Texture: All right, so now
in this tape we are going to do something
really interesting. We are going to add some
texture on the wall to make it look like brick wall
but in an abstract way. So the supplies that you need for this step is pick
body pain because the body paint works much
better with creating textures. But if you don't have a
thick body paint like this, so this is how it looks like. You can always use the fluid
acrylics as well. For this. See, my tube paint is almost
over for titanium white, so I am going to
use it from this. It's the same thing
In a bigger quantity. Alright, so I'm gonna take out some of
this titanium white. Again. I'll just take
out a little quantity. And if I need more, I will go back and take
out some more later. This month should be
sufficient for the time being. And I'm going to take
out a little bit of pick body black as well. These are the two colors
that we're going to be using for this tape. And you need a knife. Because I am using
this size canvas. I am using a smaller size. That is perfect to
go with the size. Now if you're working
on a big size canvas, you all you have to do is get even bigger size of knife
to do the step problem. Alright, so let's get started. So what I'm gonna do is we're gonna take
little by little. I'm just taking, scoping
out this much of white, taking a little bit of
black and mix it in, mixing it up together nicely. I want to use the complete black because I don't want to
darken it too much. So what you do is you
increase the intensity of grey gradually don't take up a lot of black and
make it too dark. So I think this much is fine. Now I'm scooping up quite
a bit at the back of my life right now,
like I'm sure. And I'm not trying to put down the entire
paint on the canvas. I'm keeping it take popping
out from the Canvas. That's the benefit of using
the pig body acrylic, right? So again, I'm using one and scooping it all
the way to the end. Num. One important thing to
remember here is we don't want the exact same shades
in all the strokes, just like how in the background, I did not keep one solid
color all throughout. Similarly here as well. What I'm gonna do now is I'm
taking a little bit more black and adding one
line in the next one, maybe I just become
just a plain white so that all my strokes are
not exactly the same. You'll see what I'm doing. I'm changing the
shade of the color. The color is pretty
much the same. It's gonna be just
white and black, but I am changing the shade by alternating the proportion
of black and white. Can you see how the paints are popping out from the Canvas? And they're looking
swedish popping out. So again, I am taking
one over here, I want to make one. We go on. So okay. Little bit here and there
is going to be there. It's going to happen,
that's totally fine. Don't get too involved in the nitty-gritty of all the strokes that
you're going to take, none of the strokes are going to be same when you are doing it. I mean, even for me also
when I do it another time, it's not going to be the same. That's the best part
of doing abstracts. You always, you always get different stuff every time you do
the same painting. So this painting I have
probably done by now at least n times and every time it
comes out different. So what I want you to do is
now understand the technique. Once you understand
the technique, you will be able to do
it in your own way. You see there is no particular pattern that I'm following. But still there is a
pattern of bricks, of bricks does not come
one on top of each other. There is always one
on top of two, right? So that is the kind of shape
that I'm trying to give you. I don't want to
make all of them. So pick some of them, is take some of them
because we want it in a very asymmetric way. We don't want so
much of symmetry. So now I'm taking
little bit more of black because it was
too white over here. Taking it all the way
down here like this. You see how nicely it's giving the Ralph look of
the wall, right? You don't want to cover up the entire beautiful
background that you have done. So always remember that. Again, I'm going in
alternating fashion, just like how bricks are placed. Displays. I don't want you to do much
because it's going to be all hidden by the by the flowers. I'm focusing more on the sides. You see the amount of
black eye to copper solid, but that is pretty much
sufficient for this ice painting. So you really don't
need a lot of black. You don't want to make
the Greeks just dark. Keep that in mind. Okay, I'm liking how it's
gradually developing. I think this is where
I'm going to do my last one and
leave it at that. And since I have a
bit of extra white, which as you can see, what I'm going to do is
check out this part, okay? So I am scooping up
quite a bit of paper. Since I have little extra and
I don't want to waste it. I'm going to go over Shaw and at a very
thick layer over here. So then it pops
out really a lot. And I am going to add
one on here as well. Which is like really peak. But if I had like
a whitish stroke just going on top
of it and adding a little extra layer of paint as much as I can. And that's all for this step. We don't want to do too much. I feel I have done
a bit too extra. That's totally fine. I think it looks really,
really pretty Swedish. Let me show you. I mentioned just a
second sequence. Thick texture that has formed
on the Canvas, isn't it? So now once it dries, so what I'm gonna do now
is I'm going to leave it aside and let it dry for at
least a couple of hours. But if you don't want
to wait that long, you can start off with the
next step immediately. It's just that you
have to be little careful while you're
keeping your hand on top of it so that you don't
place your hand on the colors because I have done a couple
of times before, so just a word of
caution for you. You can leave it
aside and let it dry. And if you're working
on a big size canvas, like the one I have done
on four feet by four feet. It, you definitely
need to keep some, give it some time
and let it dry. Alright, so that's
all for this step. In the next step,
we are going to start painting the window.
9. Step 4 - Window Part 1: Alright, so now in
this step we are going to paint the window completely. Okay, So this is
this part I'm going to do with my fluid acrylics and not with the
peak body paint. The colors you need for this
step are the little white. I'm going to take out some
brown and some black. Right now like Kansas
has completely dried. I kept it for at least
an hour. I think. So. See, it's completely dry, but it shows the popping
out from the Canvas and it's looking really nice. So now I'm going to start
painting the window. Brush that I'm using is a
number three size brush, so it's not too thin, but it's just perfect for the size of the window
that I'm doing. So for the size of Canvas, this is the size I
feel is perfect. Now, depending on the size
of Canvas you are using, you can increase the
size of the round brush or decrease the size depending
on the size of the canvas. Alright, so now the best
part is I can keep my hand anywhere and I'm
not going to mess up this beautiful wall
that have created. So I'll start with painting the window seals on this side. So all I'm gonna do is simply
go and fill it up with. Here. I'm going to teach
you a quick tip for creating
straight line brush. If you feel it's a little uncomfortable for
you to do this. I am going to Back to you soon. Maybe you can just watch it first and see
how things develop. And then this one, I will show you how to do it. Okay, I'm taking on this
little bit of white in between also, just
to fill it up. Because I don't want the
complete dark, the color. I want to add a bit
of shades to it, or rather lighten
the tone a bit. And as always, I keep saying, rather than mixing
it up on the plate, I picked up the colors
and I liked it, it up on my canvas. So simple, plain
addition of color. There is nothing much to it. The reason I say it about the straight
line is because I have observed from my
glasses before that. If you're painting for
the first time or if you're not super confident about creating straight line
with your paintbrush, people actually find it a
bit intimidating to work freehand brush and paint. So that is why I'm going
to show you this big tip. How to do it effortlessly
and not slick. Alright, so that's
all. So you will seek some of the moms
that are showing through which I'm totally fine with and I'm not
going to change them. Okay. So here is that quickly
that I will show you. Here is a tip that I have. You can use the any
masking tape but you'll get or this is also
a masking tape. Just pull out a bit of it. Please sit here, please. Okay, so now you don't have to bother about
creating straight line, even if you go a
little bit outside, that's going to be totally fine. Again, I'm going to pick up
the color separately and go. So you see, I'm going a little
bit on the masking tape to show you how it would be. Okay. So you can see how much
I've gone on top of the masking tape
over here and now, slowly pick it up. You go, you get a nice
crisp straight line. And you don't have
to worry about. Its trade with your. Now, I'm going to let it dry for a bit while
it is drying. I'm going to paint
the inner area. I'm going to leave out this border line over
here and on the window. And I'm going to go all in. And feeling this up. Just like we did with the blue. This time also,
I'm going to pick up two colors separately. I'm going to pick up brown and
black and keep doing this. This is this time what I'm
going to do is rather than, rather than going
block-by-block, what I'm gonna do is I'm going
to go all out and fill up this entire area and then leader a monogram on top of
it and create these slides. Alright, so let's do that. Here also, you can
add a bit of masking tape to create a straight
line on the side. But now that you
know the technique, I am not going to do it anymore. I'm just going to go straight on top of it with my paintbrush. Sure. What I'm gonna do
is I'm going to take a bit orange as well. It's just a bit of orange. To give a little
bit of brightness. I'm going all around and adding a dark layer of
glass on the bottle. This is going to be visible
at the end of your painting. It's gotta be like
one of the focal points of your paintings. And you can see some vertical
strokes are getting formed. This adds to the texture
of the whole painting. So have a look closer. You'll see this vertical
lines that are being formed, which is really nice
textures to the painting. So we're going to leave it at that and let it dry completely.
10. Step 4 - Window Part 2: Why it is drying? I think this part is dried. It's not completely dried, but it's pretty fairly dry. Now what I'm gonna
do is I'm gonna take my liner brush, size three. And I'm going to create a few lines on top of
this window panels. So for that, I'm taking a
little bit of teal blue, just adding a tiny bit of
black to it became a lot. So I'm just going to mix
more of the blue to it. So this is the color
that I want, the shade. Now, I'm going to
go and add a line. One more of a yellow one. So these are basically the
wooden panels added on top of on top of the
window patterns. And then I've got
to add a bit of lighter blue on top of this. Same thing I'm gonna
do on this one. Also. Modify white to lighten it. That's all fairly simple right? Now I'm going to do the same
thing on this other side. All right, so that's done. Now. We will take a bit
more of this dark blue. And I'm going to create a
couple of lights over here. So first we will
do a center line. So once again, if you feel
you are not comfortable, clean, aligns with
your paintbrush. You can watch, you
can try at this tip is try using a scale. See how that works for you. But one thing that
I would say is that my focus is not on creating absolutely nice straight
lines over here. Okay? So even if you see
my lines are not absolutely a 100% straight
line and that's totally fine. Right? So I'm gonna do the
same thing on this side. That's done. Now just a couple
of more things, very small minute things. Create some not balls over here, just not going to be
visible to match. Did you do so far? Well, I hope so. It's really simple. It's maybe it may take
you a bit more time. So take your time
and do this much. You're doing great so far. That's fine. Now, I hope
you can see the light and shadow on the panel and how
beautifully it's looking. I'm just going to
create initially bit of that darker ones. Okay. Let's check on the center part. Is it dried? No, it's not. It's a bit more sticky, so I think it'll take just
a little bit more time.
11. Step 4 - Window Part 3: Meanwhile, what we're gonna do is add the color on this area. Okay? So for that, I am going to use
a lot of white, but I'll just mix it up a little bit on the
plate this time. And I'm going to go over it. And I'm using the liner brush because I don't want to pick paintbrush over here so that I can do the
light really nicely. And I'm going to
take for yellow, just a tiny bit of yellow. This is the time you
can correct if there is any line that you
need to correct. On either side. Brown or I'm adding just a
tiny little brown. They can shade this
color that I'm doing.
12. Step 5 - Leaves Part 1: All right, so let's start with the next step where we're going
to create all the greens. The colors that
I'm going to use, our thick body pins, first of all, because
we want to create the similar textures like
what we did on the wall. And you can of course, do with the fluid acrylics, but I feel with a
thick body paints, it's going to raise up from the Canvas and it's gonna give
a really beautiful effect. The colors that are going to
use are these three colors, black, sap, green, and yellow. And I'm back with the
same knife that I used for the brick textures. So watch it now, just watch the technique. So starting off with adding quite a bit of
black on this corner. And then I'm adding
the sap green. As you can see, we're not
going to add just one color. We're going to add the colors, are the three colors
pretty much alternately. Alright. So I'm adding quite
a bit of lag. Okay? Then in quite a
bit of sap green, Let's get in a little bit off. So really, I would
suggest Have fun with it, play with this tape
what it wants. Because just watching it once when you give
me a lot of idea of how simple this is, even though it looks pretty
complicated. I know that. And also one more thing
that I'm trying to do with this tape
is I'm trying to keep use just the
tip of my knife and not the entire back of it. Okay. So gradually we
start coming down. And you'll see why
I'm doing this. I'm leaving them popping
out of the canvas so that they give that Swedish look. More black over here. Again, there is no
right and wrong here. So feel free to do
the way you feel like if you want to extend
it all the way till here, I've seen people do pretty
much all sorts of stuff. Have fun with it. Do it the way you want. Don't feel pressurized to to
do exactly what I'm doing. Well, I hope you are getting an idea of how to move
around your knife. You can just go and tweak
whatever you want to, wherever you want to. It's just little tweaking that
makes all the difference. So now again, I'll start exactly
the same way over. Sure. That I'm starting again with black just the way we started on the top and in
some of the places. So this is where I think the lightened shadow
comes into the picture. So don't keep it all
flat color everywhere. So I am just going to go and add a B24 lag in some of the
places to create the shadows. Because once you
create the shadows, That's only when the highlights will be highlighted, right? Adding some more black here
and there some places. And I'm going to add
quite a bit of lag. So in this area. And also watch how I
am using just the tip of the knife to create
all the textures. Inside a little bit.
Not completely. We don't want to cover up all the windows
that we have done. So just very gradually
just play around with it. It's all about having fun. In this step.
13. Step 5 - Leaves Part 2: The shape of the
leaves that you're creating also matters
a little bit. So don't go all over. You see how I'm trying to
stay only in this area and just radiating out just
a little bit over the ages. So don't make it too much. You need to try to keep it a little bit closer to each other. Okay? I'm absolutely loving
how it is forming. So after everything is done, just use the tip and just make sure I use
up all the paint. The last bit of it, maybe I can add a bit here. As I'm adding all the last bit, I'm making sure that
it's kind of popping out and creating a really
nice thick texture. The ages of it as
are particularly important because that is what gives the definition
of the painting. You see now that all the
pins have been added, and I'm pretty much happy with how all the place where the
leaves have been added. Now you can go a little
bit on top of it and tweak it around and
give it some desired shape. So for example, I'm pretty
much happy with it, but this, I'm showing you that just in
case you're not happy with any of the place you can
go around and tweak it. So let's see, for example, I go here and I just, just move it around a bit. So there are two things that are happening in the process
when you do this. First of all, you're
mixing up the colors, so that is giving you
a different shade. And also it's changing
the shape of the texture. You see I have a lot
of yellow over here, so I'll pick up a bit
yellow from there and add a couple of jobs over here. It's really fun to learn this technique thing
to play with it. Alright, so that's how I
am going to leave at that. What are you can
also do is just move your ninth little
bit through it. In some places, not everywhere. Has to give a little
steam like structure. Feel free to keep
playing around with this tape unless you are
satisfied the way you want it. So what I like doing
is adding a few drops around that final data. Alright, so that's pretty
much it for this step. Do you realize that over
here it's a bit dark? So for that part, I'm just going to add a
tiny bit of yellow on top. Because we want to
have it balanced. We don't want it too dark
or too light in one place. That's starting to look nice. Plato. In the next step we're going to add all the
flowers on top of this. And also between this
step and the next day, I am going to give it
some time for this to dry out because I
don't want to add the red and pink flowers on top of this immediately because it obviously will get mixed
up with all the strides. So I'm going to keep it in the sun and let it
dry for some time. And then I am going
to paint the flowers. I hope you did a fantastic
job with this tape. I would. What I recommend
is watch this tape completely ones
that you'll see how the movement is
happening with the knife deep and then start
doing it what it wants. And then you are good to go. And I'm sure you did
a fantastic job.
14. Step 6 - Flowers Part 1: All right, so now
we have reached the final step of the painting. And my leaves have
completely dried. You can see how nice the
textures are looping. They're all popping out
from the Canvas and giving a really nice 3D feeling
and looking gorgeous. So make sure that
you all is a triad completely before you move
on to this next step. Alright, so in the next step, we're going to
create the flowers, the easiest part
of the painting, but there's a little bit of
technique to it that will, that you need to learn
to be able to create these flowers in more
realistic coaches face. So we took us for this painting, for this day, for creating
the treating the flowers. I'm using this red quinacridone, red, but if you have crimson
red, that's also fine. Alright, so here you go. My boot the colors. So now I'm going to be to two different techniques
of creating the flowers. Alright, so one is
with the knife, and one is with the brush. Grab any small brush
that you have. I got this one right now with me doesn't matter what brush it is, It's just it just has
to be really thin. So I'm going to show it with
the brush a little later. Let me start by
showing with a knife. So all we would do is pick up the paint at the tip of
the knife like this. You come here
wherever you want to place the flower. Please. A blob of paint. So I'm almost like not
touching the canvas. And I'm kind of dropping
the paint on top of it. And then I'm going in jammed and non motion trying to create a
swatch out of this, which is what is giving me
the look of the flower. Now, I'm not just
going to do it with one color at this point. A little bit with the same color and picking up a
little bit of white. You go, that's our first flower. Creating one more
right next to it. Again, you have to chop really big blob of paint to create the
thickness of the flower. Then you go around gender roles. So you'll see how the
flowers are looking. So gorgeous and realistic. Normally to show
exactly the same thing, how to do it with a brush. I think with the brush, you will have a much
better idea of going around and creating the
texture of the worsening. Look at this. Isn't it? So easy with a
brush? With a brush. This is again, the same thing. You pick up a big blob
of paint like this. We want to place the
flowers come there and maybe slowly
drop the block on the canvas and make this wall. I really love the
color that is forming, but I somehow feel it. So I, I think I really want
to add a little bit of cream. Cedric, do this. But look at the swallow. So just by creating the swatch, you're creating one
nice flower, right? Do you see the texture of it? It's so pretty. Okay. Before moving onto crimson, red, let me create a
couple of more with just white and
easily bit of pink, whatever is getting onto it. That's fine. I'm
adding one nice white. I can see again, if you just keep it
clean and simple white, it's not going to
give the swale look. So you have to add some other colors
over here at my leftover. Pink actually helped
me in doing that. The concept. So now you can start
doing it along with me. I think it's better to
do it with the life, sorry, with the brush
rather than the knife. Because with a
knife you won't be able to give it
this nice swollen. It will help you in
dropping the blob of paint, but ultimately I think
you need the brush. Okay, so let me
grab crimson, red. It's nice to have couple
of sheets of flowers, but they're not too
different from each other there in the
same color family. But you see when two colors mix, it creates such a nice
look at this one. I think I love this. Look. It's looking almost like
a realistic flower right? Now. One thing to remember here, when you're working on
a bigger size canvas, you actually have lots of area to play around
with these flowers. Because I'm working on are
comparatively smaller. Canvas. I can't go much
bigger than this. See all the beautiful
soils will be visible only if you use
two colors together.
15. Step 6 - Flowers Part 2: Pretty took place some
flowers wherever you like. I hope you're
enjoying the process. It's very therapeutic,
it's very meditative. And to get to create beautiful
flowers me on Canvas. One thing that I would like to say here is that I have seen my students fill up the
entire place with flowers. So you don't want to do that because if you
fill up too much, it can look a bit cluttered. I know when you will
start doing this process, you feel like stopping
and continue doing a lot. But just, just take a pause, go back, look at it and see if you really want to add more. How's it looking? Then add more. Okay. There you go. I think I'm
going to leave it at that. Look at the flowers, glows. How nice. One thing. I think I
especially like this one. Look at this wall that
has happened in this one, if you can do something like
this for all your flowers, I think they are going
to look amazing. And one quick tip, what you could do is right now the pink and whites
are pretty wet. So let them dry a little bit. And after sometime
what you can do is go and zoom around
the way you want, the direction that you
want to give them. A little later ones, they are like half drive. That is the time
you will get a lot of space to move around
and play around with them. Okay? So it's really, it's really kind of very nice technique to create realistic flowers and at the same time,
have fun with it. So I hope you enjoyed this
flower techniques especially. And we have come to the
end of our painting. Now, I'm gonna give
it some time to dry.
16. Your Project | Framing Your Painting: Well, there you go. Here is a painting that we
just finished creating. And this is your project
for today's class to follow along all the steps and create this painting
on your own. Once you've finished
creating this painting, do take a picture and share
it in the space below. I would love to see
what you have done. Now, I will show you how you can frame this gorgeous
painting and hang on your wall here is a nine by
11 inches frame that I got custom-made
from a local frame shop. But I think you should be able
to get it online directly. So find it out, get a frame. And you can hang this beautiful painting
framed on your wall. There you go. A beautifully framed, beautiful painting ready to be
hand on the wall. I hope you could do this along with me and came up with
a gorgeous outcome. I can't wait to see
what you have done. So please, please, once you've
finished painting this, click a picture of what you did. And if you framed it and
hang it on your wall, take a picture of that as well, and share it in the space below. I would love to
see what you have done and connect with you. And thank you so much
for joining my class.
17. Painting Big: Here is a scene in the
living room of my apartment. This painting hangs
big on a four by four feet Canvas that
I created in 2019. I think it is the center
of attraction in my home. And anytime anyone walks in, they fell in love
with this painting, wants to have it in their home. So I want you to learn all the techniques
and then painted big. You may wish to try it a couple of times before painting big. I have painted this
on small canvases for four to five times
before attempting big. If you feel four by four feet is too big for you to handle, you can try it on a two-by-two
feet Canvas as well. And it is also a
very decent size to add beauty to your wall. All you need the right
tools for painting big and the techniques
remain just the same. So here is a knife
that I use for painting the wall textures on this four by
four feet Canvas. Just with one stroke, I could create all
these bold strokes on the, on the Canvas. This is the brush that I use for painting the background
of the entire canvas. Because this was so be it
just with a few strokes. You could paint it all around. Now, you could use a round brush like this
or the flat brush for painting the window panels and the center of the window
because it is a huge space. So you might want to
have a big flat brush to create the window. And instead of liner brush, you can use a brush like this to create all the borders
of the window. Now, if you want to paint it on our two-by-two Fit to Canvas, that tooth remains the same. It's just a little bit smaller. So here is the brush, which is good for covering
up the background. As you can see, it's
the same brush, flat brush, just a
little smaller in size. And here is the nice that you can use
for creating the breaks. I have used both of these knives alternately
to create the textures. You can use a flat
brush of this size, which is a stain for creating the window panels and filling
up the center in between. And then you can use a little
smallest size brush to create all the lines
in-between the window. You don't need a very
thin liner brush like we used in this class. This knife you can use for
creating the flowers textures. So for creating the
flower texture, you can use these
Antonio step pointed, nice to create the
soils in the flowers. Well, that's it
for today's class. I am so excited for you
to create this painting. If you liked this class, I would appreciate
you leaving a review. And if you have any questions, feel free to ask me. If you enjoyed painting with me, feel free to follow
me so that you don't miss out on any future
classes from me. And thank you so much for
joining me in this class.
