About This Class
What is this class about?
This class was designed to show you how bite-sized lessons can lead to significant progress! Most people tend to overestimate what they can accomplish in a single day but often underestimate what they can achieve in just 30 days.
The HTML class is the first one in a 3-class Web Development series. Here, you'll learn how to use HTML from scratch in 11 days, in bite-sized sessions of around 15 minutes each day. You'll learn the concepts you need to know to start building the structures of your own websites and establish the strong foundation you need to move on to any field you’re interested in Web Development.
HTML is the foundation of all websites and can be a very useful skill to learn. This course will start with concepts as simple as HTML elements and go all the way to a final project where you will code your own website, which will help you connect the dots on all the concepts you learned throughout the course.
Who is this class for?
Learning how to code could be valuable for everyone, as it opens your mind to understand a little better what goes on in the digital world that surrounds us nowadays, even if you’re not looking to code professionally. This course is what you’re looking for if any of the following resonate with you:
- I’m completely new to coding. Where do I even type my first line of code?
- I want to create my own blog, portfolio website, personal website, etc.
- I learned to code in the past, but I’m looking for a refresher.
- I’m simply looking to demystify coding and get a sense of what it can be used for.
- I want to set a strong foundation to secure a high-paying job as a web developer down the line.
- I simply want to stretch my brain by learning something new.
How will we learn?
Through 15-minute bite-sized lessons each day for 11 days, the course focuses on learning smart and not hard. We’ll leverage evidence-based learning techniques such as Active Recall and Spaced Repetition to enhance your learning and commit the knowledge you gain to long-term memory. We have hands-on daily exercises that will help you internalize what you’re learning and even include rest days to recover and review. All in all, this is how it goes:
- 15 minutes/day for 11 days.
- Follow along with each lesson as we go.
- Daily exercises to implement new learning.
- Rest and recovery days after every 4 lessons.
- Build a website as the final project to connect the dots.
What type of software will I use?
We'll start off the course by downloading and installing the necessary software:
- Google Chrome — browser.
- Visual Studio Code — powerful code editor.
Course Contents:
- Installation
- Elements
- Lists
- File Structure
- Hyperlinks
- Tables
- Forms
- Semantic HTML
- Basic CSS Styling
- Hands-on Project — build your own website (blog, portfolio, personal website, etc.)
Meet Your Teacher
Hey, there! I'm Tony :)
Right after I graduated as an engineer in Boston, I jumped right into Data Analytics - starting off at a startup accelerator in Cambridge, MA, where we worked to start web companies from scratch and launch them into the world!
Even though this was super exciting work, I eventually decided to focus my attention on what I'm most passionate about - learning how to learn and teaching others how to do the same.
Most of us were never taught that the brain's structure can change based on our experiences, and learning is one of the best brain exercises there is!
I hope you find my Skillshare classes, YouTube videos, and other sharing platforms helpful, and that you join me on my journey to wake up and live a more meaningful life in the pr... See full profile
Hands-on Class Project
Resources:
- Bonus Link with the entire class contents. You'll also find an FAQ section in each lesson's "Understand" section, which I'll fill out over time with students' Frequently Asked Questions.
- If you get stuck, here are the Solutions in GitHub to the "Understand" sections.
- Get inspired by browsing through my Sample Class Project.
- Post any other questions or comments in the Discussion section so we can help each other out.
Build Your Own Website
Code your own website and turn it into your own blog, portfolio, personal website, or anything you can imagine. The purpose of this hands-on final project is to connect the dots on what you're learning.
Follow these steps to complete the class project:
- On day one, create your project even before starting the first lesson. You can add something like "Hi! This will eventually turn into my final project :)".
- Go through the lessons and make updates to your project as you go. You can upload screenshots of what you build.
- Once you've gone through all the lessons, post your final version of your website with a description of how it's used.
