1. How to write a fiction novel from start to finish: Hi. My name is Emily Becky, and she's currently living in and I'm here today to teach you how to write a fiction novel from start to finish. So I'm a published author. I have one book published trades, they're publishing house and to book. My main subject is fantasy and science fiction for young adults. They are books that I love to read and that's why I loved writing them as well. This class is open to everybody. You don't need to have any curses and the diploma any degree. You just need to have a delay of two, right? And so if I can help you with that, I will be very happy. I am going to provide you some insight on how to write that book you might have dreamed up for so long. And it gives you the opportunity. Finally finished it started and finished it. I'm going to deep dive into some key elements like the writing process, how to stay creative, how to be a very good character. Thank you for joining me and let's dive into it. 2. The project section: What about the project section? In the project section, I will ask you to actually create a character. I will tell you a little bit more about this in one of the next line. So this class, no need of special material except another pad and a laptop. Like something to write on it. I hope you'll enjoy it. 3. What story would you like to tell?: What story would you like to tell? I am sure something I will say my applied as well to other kinds of books. But fiction is nice specialty. I love creating stories. I think this is a first point. Needs to be passionate about the story you're going to tell. I love imagining words that the readers will be the first ones to discover. How long have you waited to tell that story? How long has it been in mind? What is it about? These stories have been in my mind for months, sometimes years before they were ready for me to write them down. But it can be something you thought just about now or maybe a few weeks ago. It doesn't matter. I advise you any way to give you some time to think about what it is. You need to make some research or just in your mind, no, you cannot have to understand what it is about. I want you to tell what kind of story you want to share with whom you want to share it. And at some point your manual will be all up manipulated by it and you won't have any other way than to let it out. 4. Keep a notepad at all times: Keep a notepad at all times. Nowadays with our smartphone is never been easier to actually just open and not just write down some ideas. I remember when I wrote my first novel in 2011. I actually wrote down IDs in every piece of paper I could find him when he was finally time for me to actually write the novel. I had to look everywhere, in every notebooks in order to find all the little IDs that spread there and then just kinda bring everything together. It was such a nightmare. So piece of ice to keep everything at the same place. If you can't, then try to know where you are putting your notes. Either like having the same Netbook that you're keeping your handbag or a note on your smartphone, as I said, or like having a file on your computer. But then you know whether things are and you know where to look for them. Once you start writing your story. The only thing is don't stop yourself for writing something just because it doesn't have the right not to book with you. Because every node you add, every little ID, every liter creation would be something that will help you write your story and maybe add some value to your story. 5. The 10 key points: The ten key points, I think this is for me the main important point of this class. This is how I proceed. When my story is ready to be written. Actually a little story line. For me, the beginning and the end never changed. I know exactly how my story is going to start and I know how it's going to end. Then in the 0.229, I write what I think are going to be the main points of the story. Now, when you're writing, sometimes the characters I evolving over there have their own personality and they actually will bring you, the author to actually go out of the line. Maybe a character that you saw would be secondary. We suddenly become primary. You never know, You know, it's like people you're meeting, sometimes they are getting over your expectations. They are not at all, but they were the surprise you in a very good way or bad way. Once I start writing, actually my intuition and my instinct guides me. Here, I created a small storyline in order for you to understand that the better what I mean by changing the points in between. Here in the story, the beginning of the story, john is going to school. And at the end of the story, after everything has been through, everybody is safe and grow. So we have five characters. We have John, we have Thomas with a friend of John. We have Kirk, very bad guy, Stephen, bad guy. And grandma in the middle is going to meet E6, grandma who has disappeared. So that's the first week erasing action. So let's say e.g. at the 0.5, when John gets cut, supposedly the bad guy discovers the map. John processes and understand that John is a reality. After day is going to excel and asking question, it starts feeling some sympathy for junk. In the 0.6 is not really an escape, but more release because Stephen Dan now lacked, john decides to visit him. Then in 0.7 or nine. Why not choosing Steven again who decided to help him by being the one giving Johnson terrorists training. So C, six months I said it wasn't escaped, but now it's a really is more than a release. And in the eight pounds, like again, you can actually use that guy, that bad guy that change and become more sympathetic to actually help and become good. So because he evolved and he understood the other person. And that's true. That's what I was trying to tell. The eight pounds in the middle can change. But you need to keep in mind the main clubs and try not to stray too far away from the original idea, except to make it better. 6. The research: The research, this is an important part of the process. E.g. I. Just finished writing a novel that is happening in 21, 7,350 years from now. It is still happening on Earth and I needed to know how many people will still be alive in 150 years from now, knowing that we are already 7 billion people, I made some research about where my characters will be leaving. When you are using places that you already know, It's actually helps you visualize it. Another example that I wrote, a fantasy novel and all my else have septic names. So I mixed some research to see what does the name used in Brittany where they have 70 groups. In my writing process, I also created some documents that are very handy. I have a document that's called history. Another one, characters that helped me actually know who my characters are and what's happened in this world of mine. And I have another document, e.g. cool ideas, where I've put some ideas that actually can change where I can go back to when actually I'm a big class and I don't know what I'm writing your balance. And I'm moving from one document to another in order to help me continue creating. And then I always know where to find what I'm looking for. Another thing that is also really important is to know who the book is. Four, I'm writing for young adults, so I won't use the same vocabulary with them that I would have used with adults. I would advise you to read some books actually about the genre you're going to write four. So then you will know a little bit more about how it's done. 7. The characters: The characters mystery couldn't exist without its characters. This is what will keep your reader interested. The characters become friends or family. We love them, we hate them, but they never leave us indifferent. I think that really knowing a character, once I found its name, it takes sometimes a bit of time before I find the right one. That always end up finding it. For my first main character. It is often very obvious to me. So even if you don't have the names straight away, there is a way to find it just by discovering a little bit more about your character. I will give you more information in the next point. 8. Into one character (the project section info): Into one character. So here is an example of how I proceed in creating one character. It's actually just the process of creating their own story the same way you will discover about the story of a new friend. You will discover about its background, where they came from, where they are, what they look like in order for you to visualize them. And a lot of different details. So let's go into it. So you will have the name, the genre itself, female or male. The age where they have families. So their parents, brothers and sisters. Are they married? Are they single? What the nationality, e.g. you might say emphysema, they'll have giants, have humans, have, magicians have out there. Where do they come from, who they are? What their nationality, the job? What are they doing in life? How did we earn money? Of course, if you're writing like me for your ads, those symptoms. But what they like, what are the obvious? What their morphology, so what do they look like? It's more natural for people to get attached to a character where they have some flaws. Nobody's perfect. So I always add three qualities and three columns. Then you have to find out what their skills are. If they have a disability, what is their personality and what is their social status? Is the character of prints, the character child. He's a character magician. Either character, center and L, that the character have to beg for money in order to survive. It's all these little things that actually will give character and then you will be able to create the background story. And it's once you know about the background stories that you will be able to actually make them act the way they should. And that's why in your story sometimes the point to tonight might change because your character is evolving and so he's going in another direction. That's why you expect it to. 9. The number of pages per chapter: The number of pages per chapter. Once you have the skeleton of your story ready with your entry points, we can dive into the first written chapters will be decisive in order to let you know how many pages per chapter you will write. Because you need each chapter to be kind of the same length or the time. As a reader, I like to know how long it takes me to actually go to the end of a chapter. I think it's ideal to actually have the same amount of pages per chapter. Because you know how many pages of Chapter needs in order to finish it might help you push you to write the two last pages you need in order to finish it. Sometimes by crushing myself, actually create a sentence and IDs. I never have, I never would have thought about. It doesn't mean that you have to write a whole chapter at once. Just mean that dumb, stop writing until you have the amount of pages you've told yourself to write. 10. Write as much as you can: Right, as much as you can. There are days where I cannot write. Sometimes I am stuck with an idea. Lag. There is something I need to overthink again and again. Sometimes I just need to let the story there, forget about it and come back to it later. The thing is, as long as you feel the need of creating, as long as you are in the creative process, just don't write. The key is to finish that book. Writes. Write as much as you can, as many times as you can, as long as you can. Sometimes want to take too long before continuing a book. I decided to read it again in order to remember right, I wrote actually had me going back to the creative process. It also helps me not to read the same thing twice. 11. Listen to yourself: Listen to yourself, Man, you adsorbed book. It took me two months to write it. My sci-fi book, three years. Why? Because the first one was very easy, not complicated. And it kind of reflection of my life. The words just flow right on paper. For the other one, there were some month that I couldn't write anymore. When this does happen, I listened to myself. I knew there was something missing from my book and then the pandemic happened and I get the answer that I was looking for. So he took me half a year to write half of the book than three months out of it. And then when I went back to it, it took me only three months to write the other half of the book. I have a trilogy that I started 11 years ago. And it's still growing. It's just not the right term for it. At some point, I'll go back to it and I will finish it. I know that we'll continue to write other things in the meanwhile. Listen to yourself. 12. The end: And then what's difficult that is actually to end the book. You get attached to your characters and add some funds you have to do it. It will bring you so much satisfaction and pride. You're finished a whole story. Now Gu, only then after letting your book sit for a little while, we can go back to it and read it again in order to do it first correction, nothing like them. You can also true with the kind of ending you would like to have. Is it supposed to be only one book? A trailer z a Siri. If you're not sure, you can always leave the Canon ending with a question at the end. So then if you want to go back to it, you have a weight. 13. Be open to criticism: Be open to criticism. You are done with the book. Now. You cannot keep it to yourself. The world deserve to know your story, your characters, the people are allowed to meet the characters that you just created in order for them to become alive. The best thing would be to find people that read aloud or are working in the book in order to have a constructive, fine, serious people generally give it to people. And only two or three. People said, yes because they like you, like your friends or your family. But then they are caught up with their lives and they forget about you. That's why it's very important to find serious people that will actually read it and give you feedback. It is really crucial in order for you to be able to write a better book. 14. Correcting / Rewriting: Convection rewriting. Once you receive your feedback, it is time for you to know what you will do about it. You are allowed to make the changes, please. You, you, you, not anybody else. Sometimes I need a few days just to digest the kind of feedback I received. Because it's not very easy all the time. Receiving feedback because you think that you would like the best novel in the world. But actually not straight away. Needs a little bit of word. Just remember, we just created a whole story on your own. First. It is amazing. And then there are some things that you might have missed. Sometimes you have met because you're so into the story that that's some things you forgot to see and to read. It is hard to think about everything. It is hard to swallow. I know that once it's done, then you can actually move on to try and make your book better. So once you have digested the kind of criticism you just saved, it's time for you to think and to make a decision about you're going gonna do. I still my sci-fi novel was done after writing it for a year. But after receiving some feedback, I actually went back to write five more chapters. There were actually some points, some ID, some questions that were still there without an answer. And I needed to make it better for the reader. Now, I like it even more. 15. Publishing + Softwares: Now your book is finally done. It is time to see what you're gonna do about it. If it exists many ways to publish it. You can send it to publishers or you can do some sap publication. I won't go into it right now. Maybe having another class about. I just take the opportunity of this short lesson to just give you some ideas on what kind of software I use to write. I use the simple pages because I'm working on Mac. So on an Apple products, but you can use Word as well if you prefer. Then when I go into the rewriting them in the editing process, I use a software like Depot That actually helped me as well to translate from French to English or grammarly for English or the software antidote in French to help me correct the French language. But I'm sure there are a lot of softwares out there that I'm not aware of, that I'm not choosing. So it's up to you to actually find something that suits you. But I don't think you need something very fancy in order to start writing. 16. Congratulations: When I want to, thank you so much for taking this class, for taking the time to listen to me. I hope I was able to give you some insight on what it is to be a writer, how to actually write that book and give you examples. Nice example for you to finish yours. Don't forget to finish creating character in the project section and to share it with other people. I will be delighted to check it out. I love discovering new characters and stories. Don't be afraid to share yours with us. Congratulations again on finishing the class and thank you so much for being there with me. It was a pleasure. See you soon.
