Let me share a few stories with you of how big organizations and greet people have said their purpose to change and impact lies with their meaningful contribution. Unilever, in 1929, one of the great global brands didn't start out with an objective to sell soaps and non-profit. It started out with a sense of purpose to create a hygienic and clean environment where people and communities we'll try. It was always about whether they can make the communities around them happy, prosperous, and healthy. Tesla, the electric car company founded by Elon Musk's, started out with a purpose to make sustainable transportation available to people by eliminating carbon emissions through petrol or diesel driven guys. It was started to protect the environment from getting depleted. Mother Teresa, when she saw the widespread party in Calcutta, that made a deep impression on hold, which led her to open machineries of charity where her purpose was to look after people who no one else wanted to look after. In 1979, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for their struggle to overcome poverty and distress. Malala Yousafzai, social activists learn the importance of education from a father, a teacher at a girls school. When the Taliban took control of her town in 2008, they prohibited goods from going to school. She publicly spoke out against it and was shot on the left side of our head for what she believed in. After months of recovery and moving to the UK, she refused to Haydn field. Instead, she started a Malala Fund, which is a charity dedicated to ensure every girl has the opportunity to go to school. And at just 17, she has received the Nobel Peace Prize for her contribution. Bill Gates and Warren Buffet have formed the Giving Pledge Campaign to recruit more wealthy individuals for philanthropic causes. This is just a few stories, but if you draw the proper order them, you can easily segregate the three components of purpose, which are skill, passion, and meaningful contribution. The Power of Habit: Hi, This is the day school nanny and welcome to this course, which will help you become the best version of yourself through the knowledge of magical powers we all possess. In this lecture, we are going to understand the meaning of habits. Why do we have habitual tendencies? How do we form habits? How should you create new habits? And most importantly, how should you change old habits, which are not solving you? When you wake up in the morning, your day begins with brushing your teeth, checking your mobile phones, having a cup of tea, doing morning meditations, reading newspapers. And it can end with an entertaining podcasts every day, which puts you to pay, check your whole day. And it is filled with a lot of habits like all the ones we discussed. We tend to think that we are making informed decisions each time, but each time it is happening automatically, every day without putting our conscious effort out of our habits. Habit runs your life. And if you have bad habits your life and really get stuck. One of the most followed spiritual guru, they end up energy says habits can be very strong. And she says this by saying if you remove edge from habit, still a bit remains. And if you remove a still bit remains and if you remove B still it remains, That's how strong habitus. So if you want to really change your life, you need to change your habits. And I was going through a lecture from a YouTube channel, wisdom for life, which explain the concept of habit in a scientific way. So here are the three components which we are going to discuss. What habits are and Baidu, we have habitual tendencies, how our habits formed, and how you can actually create a good habit. So a green consumes 20% of the whole body energy. And it has become smart and efficient to conserve energy. And it doesn't want to spend the same energy doing the same repetitive things. Cerebrum located inside the brain, performs complex cognitive functions. And whenever you are exposed to learning something new, cerebrum helps you with understanding, but it takes extra energy for it to function. But when that same action is performed repeatedly, it goes through the center of the brain. In basal ganglia, which requires less mental activity and less energy. When activity gets into basal ganglia, it then becomes a reaction or kind of a train or a conditioned response. So for example, imagine when you started learning how to ride a bicycle, it could have been pretty difficult because your cerebrum was involved initially to understand the mechanics of balancing and pedaling. But once you will train, you don't have to consciously pedal or focus on balancing. It happened automatically through basal ganglia and onetime activity gets into it, it becomes hard to dislodge. And that's why it's very, very difficult to remove bad habits. So for example, if I want to unload to ride a bicycle, it would be very tough to do so because it's their acumen in your brain. So when we make lifestyle changes or changes in our response, even if they're good, It's tough for us to do because they have not become our habits. So for example, here, if I want to wake up early in the morning and I have convinced my intellectual same with the thought that it's good for the body to wake up early. It definitely has health benefits. It lowers down the cortisol levels, which reduces stress. But when it is rarely 50, five AM in the morning, the same intellect gets into the sleep mode and it's become very difficult to wake up early. It's hard for you to fight against the flow of habit and you prefer to sleep at that moment. Let's now understand how habits are formed and what I would use the insights given in the book Charles Duhigg, part of habits. So he says habits have three components. The first component is the q, which is a trigger to why you do a certain activity. For example, you have a mobile phone and it has a trigger or a base where you receive messages or you play games, or you watch Netflix. The second component is routine. This is the behavior which leads to a reward. For example, checking messages when getting notifications on your mobile phone. The third component is the reward. The feeling of happiness when you get a message or call from your loved ones, are you finished a new TV series, series on Netflix. Reward, Let's see, release endorphins, which is a happiness hormone. And these are components in which you can classify any of your habits. But one question still remains. Why do these habits stick with us? So Charles Duhigg sees your cravings or your anticipation to get a reward, is where your action becomes a true habit. And you are willing to do a routine to get the same reward. So for example, if you are the habit of having our dinner and watching TV together at the same time. We put the TV on to watch our favorite show for the expectation to get entertain and thrilled. That anticipation of entertainment is a reward which will pull us whenever we are having dinner or starting a dinner. So now that we have learned the meaning of habit components of habit reasons for why habits six, it becomes super important for us to learn how to change our bad habits. So in order to change the bad old habits, you need to think of the cue, routine and reward. And you need to also write a problem statement. So I changed my bad habit and here is, what was my problem statement. I wanted to avoid distractions and I wanted to bring more focus into my life. And my mobile habits have not been so good in the past. And I wanted to change that because whenever a notification popped up, I usually check it at the moment. And through that, I was constantly losing focus because it was deviating my attention from what I was actually doing at that moment. So my q was a mobile phone. I changed my routine by keeping mobile phones on silent or checking them at fixed period of time, which used to happen every single time the notification Spock. And the reward is definitely more communists and better focus in my leg. So if you want to change your habits, think of the QRS routine and reward and Flickr with them to find the perfect combination which works for you. You can either remove the queue here, you can remove the mobile phone, I'll keep it at a distance, or you can change your routine, which will definitely impact your rewards. Second is work only on one habitat time, which means if you want to wake up early in the morning, work only on that. Don't start with a goal. You will wake up early, you will start reading self-help books. You will start dreaming also regularly. This will make things tougher. So work only on one and accomplish it. The third is how a strong via before you are making a change and who are the part of purpose will help you align with your goals. Why is the emotional factor which will forever keep you motivated to achieve what you want to. So if you're quitting a cigarette, have a strong way as to why you are doing it. That is extremely important. Simply saying that you'll do it one day will again let you have that habit getting her emotional coatings quotient attached as to if you have a cigarette will not make your health or lung suffered ill, also enable your child to take that when he or she gets young.
