1. Intro: To sing three part
harmony effortlessly When the ring falls bother me. And in this class, through practice and repetition, we will learn ten songs
in three part harmony. Just as you don't need to
understand color theory or have a degree in fine art
to do a nice painting, You do not need to have any
music theory knowledge or understand sheet music to sing songs beautifully
in harmony. Hello, my name's Laura. I'm a folk singer, seamstress,
and music producer. I sing because I know about the power of singing
for mental health. In 2021, I started up my Singing Mamas
group in my hometown. Singing Mamas is an
international movement, building, singing
communities for the well being of women. Through my community choir,
we all develop our ear, we all develop our voices
in an easy and fun way. And I wanted to
recreate this online to make the feeling of
being in a singing circle. I'll be using what I
call four D audio. This is using spatial
audio where I can place voices in different places
in your headphones. And that means that when you
sing and when you listen, you can hear different
voices in different places. And it really helps to get the feeling that
you're in the circle. And also to train your ear. And train your voice to be able to hear one thing
and sing another. The songs we will
be learning are from my third album,
More Like Me. The harmony parts
were composed by my wonderful band,
The Garden Voices. The Garden Voices is
made up of Miriam Cox, who trained at the Royal
College of Music in London, and Emily Bates Smith, who formerly sang with
the BBC Symphony Chorus. So not only does the
music make you feel good, it's at a very, very
technically high standard. Let's go and sing together.
2. About This Class: Thank you so much for signing
up to take this class. I believe that the easiest, most fun way of learning
harmony songs is just to listen sing over and over and over until it gets
into your muscle memory. And that is what we'll be
doing through this class. Unlike other classes
on skillshare, I suggest that you take
this class passively. What I mean by that is that
you're doing this class in the background of
doing something else. Choose something to
do with your hands, your body, your mind
while you do this class. For example, doing something crafty with your hands
or going for a walk. If you are using your phone, your portable device
to take this class, you will see that on the main page there's
a download button. So you can download
this entire class onto your phone and take
this class for a walk. So if you'd like to go for a little walk and sing as
you walk through the woods, that could be really lovely
therapeutic thing to do. Another thing you
might like to do is housework or chores, Cleaning, doing the washing up,
doing some ironing, and enjoying the class
passively that way. Or you might like to
do something crafty. I'm personally a seamstress and I love sewing while I sing, so I made this lovely top. And I've got a
number of classes on skillshare where I teach sewing. If you like to do sewing, you also might like
to do drawing or play doo or something else
just to do with your hands. If you don't really like the idea of doing
something like that, walking or crafting, I just recommend making
this relaxing then. So you might want
to sit on the sofa, make yourself a nice cozy, drink, and just relax and
enjoy this experience. This is not hard learning, we're not pushing
ourselves or trying hard, we're just absorbing and it's
an easy way of learning. When we learn to sing
and sing in this way, it can put ourself in a very meditative
and relaxed state. And I hope you really enjoy that state and make
the most of it. You may even find that through this relaxed singing that you might get ideas
or inspiration. So you might like to have
a journal with you in case any good ideas come
while you're singing. The way this class works is there will be a song
teach for each song, where we break down each harmony part and
sing it over and over. And then after that, there
will be the four D audio, which is where you'll
hear the voices in space. For this four D experience. Emily will always be to your left and Miriam will
always be to your right. And you'll see that written
out on screen so that you can focus on the different
voices as you sing along. The songs from my album are from my own deep
reflective experiences, from connecting with nature and connecting with my
journey as a woman. So you may find that some of these songs move
you or inspire you. And I really recommend writing
anything down if you get any inspiration and if there's anything you'd like to share
with me, I'd love to see it. In the Discussions tab, we
can have a little chat about anything you learned or any particular song
that inspired you. I'd love to have
a chat with you. The skill shared
team and community loves to see what you've
been up to, and so do I. Here's your class project. Your project is to memorize your favorite song
from this class, then make an audio
or video recording of you singing it in
three part harmony. You could do that by asking a couple of friends to
sing along with you. Or you could record
it alone using a Loop app like Loop
or a. Cappella. Once you've made your recording, please upload it to
the project section so I can offer you some
encouraging feedback. And if you feel like it,
you could also upload it to social media and tag me
at Laura Lamb hashtag, Folk singing with Laura. You don't need any
music theory or the ability to read sheet
music to take this class. But saying that if
you are interested, there is a song book that goes alongside this album which has
all the sheet music in it. And I will put a link to that in the class outro in the
final video of this class. I recommend before
you start singing, taking a moment to breathe
and do a simple warm up. In the next lesson, we will do exactly that and have a nice
gentle warm up together. I'll see you in the next lesson.
3. Breathe and Warm Up: Welcome to the warm
up. In this lesson, we'll do some simple breathing to arrive in the here and now, and then some warm up
exercises for our vocals. I recommend using
headphones to make the most of the last exercise that we will do in this warm up. First of all, just checking
in with our breathing. What we're going to do,
we're going to place our hands at the base of
our ribs as we breathe in. We're going to feel our
ribs expanding outwards. And we're going to breathe
in for three through the nose and out for
six through the mouth. Breathing out to begin then in three out through the mouth. 3456, in through the nose to
three out through the mouth. 3456, I'm just going to leave you to do a few
more in your own time as you do that exercise. Just noticing that sometimes
our shoulders can raise or tense and we want to keep our shoulders soft
as we breathe. Now, we're just going
to close our eyes for a moment and check in with our inner experience and to
soften for so many of us, including myself, we
can tense in the jaw. This tension can then ripple outwards and we're going
to do the reverse now. First of all, we're just going to relax and soften the jaw. This might look like letting your mouth hang open slightly. You might actually like to give those tense jaw muscles a
little just in the jaw open. Then letting that relaxation
spread up to the temples. Might like to rub the temples
gently, soft, soft temples. Then letting that relaxation
spread jaw temples, eyes and then down
to the shoulders. Relaxing and softening
the shoulders. And then traveling
down chest, ribs, belly, pelvis, down both the legs and down
to the soles of the feet. What can you sense in
the soles of your feet? Hot, cold, tingly
back to the jaw, relaxing and softening the jaw. Now traveling down from the jaw, down the shoulders, down
through the upper arms, elbows, lower arms, and the two palms of your hands you might like to face the palms of your hands to the sky,
resting in your lap. Just notice any sensations
in the palms of your hands. Now we're going to
take those palms of our hands and rub them together. Placing our hands on
our heart for a moment. Just thinking for a moment about our intention with our
practice of singing, It could be whatever
comes to mind. What are you intending
through your singing? Connecting to a bit of purpose. Then rubbing the hands together. Again, place the
hands over the eyes. Enjoy the warmth of your hands. Slowly bat your eyes open into the darkness and
then peel your hands away. Welcome back. Now we're going to do a few sirens which are really quick
and easy way to warm up. We're going to do that by first, we'll do it on A,
B. We start here. Then an E, then an R. As slow as we can, and when we get to the bottom,
we'll crack like this. So starting and the last one. Oh, oh, lovely. And now we're just going to warm up and focus on our
resonating chambers. So starting with the mouth, feeling the lips vibrate tingly, might even feel a
bit unpleasant. Then to the nose with the letter N. Touch the bridge of
your nose to feel it. And then the throat. And then we move through
the resonating chambers. Nong can try a different note or lower of another lovely, quick and simple way to warm up. Now this is the part where headphones would be recommended, because through four
D we're going to hear the main tune
of this warm up. And then in your right ear you're going to
hear a third above. And without getting too is a common interval that's used in harmony that just is
sweet and crunchy. And if you can get
familiar with a third, it will just add
color to melodies. When you want to add a
harmony for this section, we're going to warm up. We're going to start with our feet and then
spread all the way up. As we focus on that body part, you're going to imagine
warm golden olive oil. I am sat down in my studio. You might like to
stand up and really move each part as
we go through it. Let's start with our feet in the warm olifoil in the field, in the ankles, warm olifoil
in the ankles, in the calf, warm olivoil in the car, in the knees, war olivoil in
the knees, in the thighs. War molifoil in the thigh, in the hips, warlivoil in
the heat in the belly. Warlivoil in the bell, in the rev, oil in the
rear, in the shoulders. Lev oil in the
shoulders, in the arms. Lev oil in the
arms, in the hands. Walevoil in the hands. Then we're going to do
our neck like this. A, ah, one more, that direction, other way. Ah, one more, that way. Oh, really slow. Ah, any cricks in the
neck, getting them out. Lovely. Now we're gonna yawn
on this side of the face. Yawn on this side of the face. Oh, and then we're
just gonna tap, Tap up, tap, tap, tap, tap. Anyway, you feel like me
tapping, just to come back, wake up, just shake a bit as
well. It's quite relaxing. All of that warm up so it can
make you feel a bit drowsy. So just shaking, Warming up, let's go and sing and
learn some songs together. I'll see you in the next lesson. By.
4. Song 1 - More Like Me Songteach: Welcome to our first song teach. In this lesson, we will be
learning to sing more like me, which it's hard to decide. But I think this is one of my favorite songs on the album. It was inspired by
nature and it's very calming and uplifting. And I know you're going to love singing this song with me. Let's get stuck in this song is very simple and
repetitive and mantra like. So it's very easy to learn. And the way it works, it's almost in a
call and response. So I sing, let me be more like a tree standing
tall, Fur to see. Then we all sing,
let me be more like a tree standing tall Fur to see. We do that all the way through. I sing one line and then
we sing it together. If you already know
it, you might like to sing the whole
thing together. That is how we are also going
to learn the harmony parts. We're going to sing the whole
song through singing it. Then we're going to
sing the whole song through Emily singing it. And then finally with
Miriam singing it. Then after you've heard each
of the parts and sang along, then you can listen to
the four D recording and choose to sing along
to which part moves you. Most some of you who will be listening to this
will be song sharers, and you might want to share
this song in your group. And if so, it can be
quite a good exercise to learn where the three
parts sit together. So there's an extra
exercise at the end so that you can easily stack
the three parts, right? Let's get started
singing my part. If you don't know it, you listen the first line
and then you join in. Or if you know it, just
join straight in. Enjoy. Let me be more
like a tree stand. Stand for a see. Let me be more me. Let me be more me. Let me be more like the
sky stretching out wide. Let me be more like the sky
stretching out far wide. Let me p more me. Let me be more me. Let me be more like the
night turning on to right. Let me be more like the night
turning oh, wrong to right. Let me be more me. Let me be more me. Let me be more like the
sun shining love everyone. Let me be more like the sun
shining, love everyone. Let me be li me, love me, me, love me, me. Lovely. Now let's sing
Emily's part together. Emily likes to sing very high, so make sure you take a nice deep breath and
sing your heart out. With us on this one, let me be more, Let me be. Stand for all to see. Love me, be me. Love, be more me. Let me be more like the sky
stretching far and wide. Let me be more like the sky
stretching far and wide. Let the more me let the by more me, let me be more like the night
turning wrong to right. Let me be more like the night
turning wrong to right. Let me be more me. Let, let me, let me be more like stone
shining love to everyone. Let me be more like stone
shining love to everyone. Let be more me, love more me, love me, lovely. Now it's time to learn and
sing along with Miriam's part. Miriam has a very
powerful, deep voice, and for me, sometimes it's
hard to hit those low notes. If it's really challenging on your voice, you
can just listen. Or if you feel like
you can join in. Here is Miriam's part. Let me be more tree standing
tall for all to see. Let me be more tree
standing tall. Fled to see more me. Let me more me, let me be more like the sky
stretching out far, wide. Let me be more like the
sky stretching out wide. Let me be more like me. Let me Be more me. Let me be more like the
night turning wrong too. Right. Let me be more like the night turning wrong too. Right? Let me be more me. Let me more like me. Let me be more like the sun
shining love to free one. Let me be more like the
sun shining free one. Me more like me, Love me more. Me love me more. Me lovely. Now we are just going to learn how to stack
these parts together. If you're a song sharer and
you want to share this part, it can make it easier for
introducing each part. So the first thing
to know is and Miriam's is the same. But I go up and Miriam
goes down on the more so I let me be more and Miriam
goes let me be more. So to situate those three parts, we're just going to
listen to the first, let me be more of each 11 after the other so we can link them together in
our mind. Let's go. So first, Laura, let me
be more and then Emily, let me be more. And then Miriam, let me be more and then
we'll do that again. Let me be more, Let me be more, Let me be more. And let's just one more time
to really get in there. Let me be more, let me be more, let me be more. So now you know all the lyrics and you know all the parts. So you can go and
listen to the song in four D and sing which
part moves you enjoy. I hope you enjoyed learning
how to sing this song. In the next lesson, we will be listening and
singing in four D, so make sure you grab
your headphones. See you in the next lesson.
5. Song 1 - More Like Me 4D: Welcome to the four D, Sing
along of more like me. Emily will be in your left ear. Miriam will be in your right ear and I'll be front center. Choose which part you like
to sing and then sing along. The structure of
this song is that we all sing in unison for the first round and then break off into harmony for
the second round. Enjoy, Let me be more like a tree standing
tall for to see. Let me be more like a tree
standing tall for to see. Let me be more, let me more like me. Let me be more like the sky
stretching out far and wide. Let me be more like the sky
stretching out far and wide. Let me baby more. Let me be more be, let me be more like the
night turning to right. Let me be more like the
night turning to right. Let more, let me more. Let me be more like the sun
shining love to everyone. Let me be more like the
sun shining to everyone. Me, Oh, e, let me more. Let me be more like a tree
standing tall to see. Let me be more like a tree
standing tall to see. Let me be mo, let me mold me, let me be more close. Sky stretching to wide. Let me be more close. Sky stretching to wide. Let me mold. Let me, let me be night
turning to right. Let me be night turning to. Let me be, let me, let me be more like sun
shining love to everyone. Let me be more sun
shining love to everyone. Let me be more, me more. I hope you enjoyed
singing along in four D. Let's head to the next lesson where we will learn
the next song.
6. Song 2 - Come Back Stronger Songteach: Welcome to the song teach
for Come Back Stronger. In this song teach, we're
going to learn something that's very heavily
used in harmony music. And that's a triad, that's
what the three that stack on top of
each other in come, come stronger, come,
come stronger, come back, come back stronger. That's a really fun way
of stacking harmonies and this song is very
empowering in its message. Enjoy singing with me
in this song teach, we are going to
learn three parts of the song in
three part harmony. And that is the verse, the
chorus, and the middle eight. And we'll go through each each part of the
song and learn each part. So first of all,
let's start with the verse, with my part. I come back, come back stronger. I come back, come back stronger. Miriam's part come
stronger, stronger. Emily's part, come back, come back stronger, come
back, come back stronger. Laura's part again. I come back, come back stronger, I come back, come back stronger. William's part again. Come, come back stronger. Come, come back stronger. Emily's part again, come back, come back stronger, come
back, come back stronger. Lovely. Now, let's head to the chorus and learned the
three parts of the chorus. First of all, starting
with my part, I come back stronger, I stand up tall, I come back stronger
after the fall. Miriam's part, I
come back stronger, I stand up tall, I come back stronger
after the fall. Emily's part, I
come back stronger, I stand up tall, I come back stronger
after the fall. Back to my part. I come back stronger, I stand up tall, I come back stronger
after the fall. Miriam's part, I
come back stronger, I stand up tall, I come back stronger
after the fall. Emily's part, I
come back stronger, stand up tall, I come back
stronger after the fall. Well, done. So that
was the chorus. And now finally
we're going to move on to the middle eight and
learn each part from that bit. They tried to bury me. They didn't know
that I was a seed. They tried to bury me. They didn't know that I
was a seed. Miriam's part. They tried to bury me. They didn't know
that I was a seed. They tried to bury me. They didn't know that I
was a seed. Emily's part. They tried to bury me. They didn't know that
I had was a seed. They tried to bury me. They didn't know
that I was a seed. Laura. They tried to bury me. They didn't know
that I was a seed. They tried to bury me. They didn't know that
I was a seed. Miriam. They tried to bury me. They didn't know
that I was a seed. They tried to bury me. They didn't know that I
was a seed. Emily's part. They tried to bury me. They didn't know
that I had a seed. They tried to bury me. They didn't know
that I was a seed. Well done. I hope you enjoyed learning how
to sing this song. In the next lesson, we will be listening and
singing in four D, so make sure you grab
your headphones. See you in the next lesson.
7. Song 2 - Come Back Stronger 4D: Welcome to our 40 sing along. For the best experience, make sure you've got your headphones. Emily will be in your left ear. Miriam will be in
your right ear. And I'm always easiest to
hear 'cause I'm front center. Choose which part you'd like
to sing and sing along. I come back, come back stronger, I come back, come back stronger. I come back, come back stronger. I come back, come back stronger. I come back stronger. I stand up, talk. I come much stronger
after the foe. I come much stronger. I stand up tall. I come much stronger
after the foe. They tried to bury me. They didn't know
that I was a seed. They tried to bury me. They didn't know
that I was a seed. They tried to bury me. They didn't know
that I was a seed. They tried to bury me. They didn't know
that I was a seed. I come back stronger. I stand up tall, I come back stronger. I'll tell the fall,
I back stronger. I'll stand up tall, I come back stronger. I phone, I come back, come back stronger, I come back, come back stronger, I come back, come back stronger, I come
back, come back stronger. I hope you enjoyed
singing along in four D. Let's head to the next lesson where we'll learn the next song.
8. Song 3 - Rain Falls Songteach: Welcome to the song
Teach for Rain Falls. This is another song
that's inspired by nature. When it rains, it
doesn't rain forever. And it's the same as when
it's raining inside. When we're going through our own personal crisis or
difficult time, it's not going to rain forever. But sometimes it's really
hard to remember that. And this song is to
remind you of that, that this to shall pass
let's get stuck in. I thought I'd make
this one a bit fun by singing along with my choir. So we're going to sing each
part separately and learn it. We will start with my part, then Emily's, then Miriam's
enjoy singing with me. Let's start with my part. When the rain falls, it don't bother me at
all when the rain falls. It don't bother me at
all when the rain falls. It don't bother me at all. I know it's washing me clean. When the sky is gray, you won't tim me complain. When the sky is gray, you won't Timmy complain. When the sky is gray, you won't tim me complain. Joy is balling out of pain. When the storm comes, you won't see me run
when the store comes, you won't see me run. When the storm comes, you see me run. I know it's bringing a change. When the sun shines, dance all the time. When the sun shines
dance all the time. When the sun shines dance
all the time in the heat. And now I leave. I leave. Lovely. Lovely. Now,
let's sing Emily's part. You'll notice Emily
starts in the same way, so she does in the same, but then instead of
going down like I do, she goes up when the rain falls, it don't bother me at all. Enjoy singing along
with Emily's part, with my lovely choir when the
rain falls to poo at all. When the rain falls in topo, when the rain falls in pothos washing me where the sky gray, you hear me complain. When the sky gray you
tear me complain. We in the sky gray tar me complain out of pay. When the storm comes. When the storm
comes to you, Sera. When the storm comes, I know it's bringing a
change when the sun shines, the time when the sun shines on the time when the sun shines, The time in the in the hear now. Well done. Lastly, we will
sing and learn Miriam's part. This part is quite low, so it might be a bit of a
challenge for your voice, but if you feel like it, give it a go or you might
just like to listen. Enjoy when the rain falls in. Both the me at oh, when the rain falls in. Done, Both the met. When the rain falls in, Don met. I know it's washing me clean. When the sky is gray, you won't hear me complain. When the sky is gray, you won't hear me complain. When the sky is gray, you won't hear me complain. Has gone out of pain. When the stole comes, you won't see me. Run when the storm comes, you won't see run
when the stole comes, you won't see me run. Because I know it's a when the sun
shines solid time. When the sun shines
in solid time. When the sun shines
in solid time. I live in the here. Now I live in the here, and now I live in here. Now. Lovely. I hope you enjoyed learning how
to sing this song. In the next lesson, we will be listening and
singing in four D, so make sure you grab
your headphones. See you in the next lesson.
9. Song 3 - Rain Falls 4D: Welcome to our for Ty. Sing along For the
best experience, make sure you've got
your headphones. Emily will be in your left ear. Miriam will be in
your right ear. And I'm always easiest to hear
because I'm front center, choose which part you'd like
to sing and sing along. When the rain falls. It don't bother me at
all when the rain falls. It don't bother me at
all when the rain falls. Bother me at washing me When the sky gray, you won't hear me complain
when the sky gray, you won't hear me complain
when the sky gray, you won't hear me complain out of when the storm comes. You won't see me run
when the storm comes, you won't see me run. When the storm comes, you won't see me run. Let's bring it When the sun shines, I do all that time. When the sun shines I do all. That's time when the
sun shines I do timely. And the paid tone of
the me at all when the main said tone of
the me at home when the rain falls in the meme know it's washing me. When the sky is gray, you won't hear me complain. When the sky is gray, you won't hear me complain. When the sky is gray, you won't hear me complain out when the storm comes. See me run when the storm comes. See me run when the storm comes. You won't see me
run because I know. Let's bring in the chase. When the sun shines over
the time when the sun shines over the time when the sun shines
Ds over the time. Here in here. Hi, I hope you enjoyed singing along in four D. Let's head to the next lesson where we will learn
the next song.
10. Song 4 - Set You Free Songteach: Welcome to the song.
Teach for set you free. This is a grieving song. Let's learn and sing together. The structure of this song is verse and then
three choruses, and that happens five times. There's five verses
in this song. What's interesting
structurally about this is that Emily and Miriam do different things under each chorus to create a
build for the first chorus, they remain doing their humming, which they were doing
under the verses. And then once the
second chorus kicks in, they do something
a bit different. And then same for
the third chorus. I thought the easiest
way to learn this is to listen and sing along
on repeat to each part. First of all, we'll start with Miriam's part and we will
sing that three times. Then we'll move on to Emily's, which we'll sing three times. Then finally, I'm sure you can hear my part quite clearly
in the four D recording, but if you want to hear it
on its own for separation, to really hear the lyrics, then I'm also going to put my part in on its
own at the very end. All right, Let's get stuck in starting with Miriam's part. Well, I let you go. I come home to me. Well, I let you go. I come home to me. Well, I let you go. I come home to me. Well, I let you go. I come home to me. Well, I let you go. I come home to me. Well, I let you go. I come home to me. That was Miriam's part. And now we will move on to
Emily's part three times, listen and sing along. I said you free. When I let you go
come home to me, I said you free. When I let you go
come home to me, I said you free. When I let you go
come home to me, I said free when I let
you go come home to me. I said, you free when I let you go come home to me I said, when I let you go, come home to me Lastly, you can hear my part
separated on its own. Also, just a little
tip with the lyrics. When I wrote this song, I was sitting by the river and all the imagery was
inspired by what was around me, by the oak tree, by the
river, by the setting sun. I think it's really useful if you're going to
memorize these lyrics to create an image in your
mind that you travel around so that you remember
the order of the lyrics. Just a little tip
there. Now let's listen to my part on it. I lay you down under the
old oak tree on the warm, soft ground amongst
the autumn leaves. I set you free. I set you free. When I let you go, I come home to me. I set you free. I set you free. When I let you go, I come home to me. I set you free. I set you free. When I let you go, I come home to me, I wrap you in a blanket
of peace and love. I let you fly like
a pure white dog. I set you free. I set you free. When I let you go, I come home to me. I set you free. I set you free. When I let you go, I come home to me. I set you free. I set you free. When I let you go, I come home to me. You carried away by the rivers
flow heading downstreams, the only way to go, I set you free. I set you free. When I let you go, I come home to me. I set you free. I set you free. When I let you go, I come home to me. 12. Song 5 - Out Beyond Songteach: Welcome to the song.
Teach for Out Beyond. Let's get stuck in.
What we will be doing is we will sing
each part in succession. We'll start with my part, then Emily's part,
then Miriam's part, and then at the end, there's a little bit more
about this song, what inspired it and
what it means to me. First of all, let's
start with my part. Out beyond right and
wrong, there's a field. I'll meet you there here in this song
that goes on and on. There's a light to
your everywhere. Out beyond, beyond,
right and wrong. There's a field. I'll meet you there in this song that goes on. And there's a light in your, out beyond, beyond,
right and wrong. There's a field. I'll meet you there in this song that
goes on and on. There's a light in your lovely. Now let's move on to singing
and learning Emily's part, beyond right and wrong. There's a feet there in the song that
goes on and there's a light in your word out, be beyond right and wrong. There's a fee on each that, in the song that goes on. And there's a light in your out, be beyond right and wrong. There's a fee, meet you there in the song that goes on and there's
a light in your word. Lovely. And now finally, let's move on to
learning Miriam's part. Out beyond, beyond,
right and wrong. There's a field I'll meet choose in this song that goes on and on. There's a light in your every week on. Right. And there's a Feld. I'll meet you in this song that goes on and on. There's a lie in your every way. I'll be right and wrong. There's a field. He choose the song that goes on and on. There's a light in your every Now we've learned all the parts. Let's talk a little
bit about this song, what inspired it, and
what it means to me. The first part of the lyrics of this song are inspired
by a roomy poem. The poem goes like this out. Beyond ideas of wrongdoing and right doing
there is a field. I'll meet you there when the soul lies down
in that grass. The world is too full
to talk about ideas, language, even the phrase, each other doesn't
make any sense. It's a beautiful poem. This poem was shared
by my mother at my grandmother's funeral
in a very deep way. Because sometimes
relationships in this lifetime don't get fixed. It's very comforting to think of that idea that there's a
space beyond all of that. During the pandemic, well, the pandemic was nearly over, but there was still a bit
of concern about Covid. I lost my great aunt, who was my grandmother's sister. Aunt Gilder, Great
Auntie Gilder. This song is dedicated and
devoted and inspired by you. When I found out about Auntie Gilda crossing
over to the other side, I went out in the
car park with Bobby. And I just spontaneously
started singing this song. It almost wrote itself. It was very powerful moment. Then I sang it at her
celebration of life. I invited everyone
to sing it with me. So it's lovely then. Since then, it's been
used as a song for remembering our
ancestors and for remembering those
who've crossed over. If you're a song teacher
and you like to use it in that way, what
we've done before, which is really
nice, is at Swan, which is also known
as Halloween. Halloween has been
laid over Sawn. Sawn is an ancient ceremony where you celebrate
the ancestors. What we do is we go round and everybody says you can
choose how you do this. But what we do is we say, we introduce our name. Who, who we are
granddaughter of. You could even do it
with mother and father are and who are grandmother
and grandfather like this? My name is Laura, I am
of Wendy and Terry. I am grand Peggy, Mick Cath and Iva. Today I'd like to
remember Gilda and Simon and at the end you choose people you might like to remember who've crossed over. And then once everybody's
gone around and shared who they came from and who they'd like to remember,
then you can sing this song. It's powerful and heart
touching thing to do. I think that's everything
about this song. May you enjoy singing it. In the next lesson, we will be listening and
singing in four D, so make sure you grab
your headphones. See you in the next lesson.
13. Song 5 - Out Beyond 4D: Welcome to our 40 sing along. For the best experience, make sure you've got your headphones. Emily will be in your left ear. Miriam will be in

goes on and on, there's a light in
your everywhere out, be, be right and wrong. There's a field. Meet you there in this song that goes on and on. There's a light in your every out, be on dry Tro, there's a feet meet you in this, so goes on. There's a light to your every y, be be on dry Tro,
there's a fleet. Meet the in this song that goes on that
there's a life, it's never were out be, be on. Dry and roll. There's a free Don't meet you in this. That goes on and

18. 08 Washing Dishes Songteach: Welcome to the song teach for
washing dishes. Let's go. Learning the harmony parts for this song has been
very good for me. Good brain training
for learning harmony. I know it will do
the same for you. What we'll do is I'll
break down each of the parts at the
beginning of this song teach so you can
hear how my voice, Emily's voice, and Miriam's
voice all stack together. Then at the end, we will have an opportunity
just to loop it round. You can hear my
take a few times, Emily's take a few times, Miriam's a few times. First of all, let's
start with mine. So listening when whinhas, let's sing that together. When washinhas listen,
I'll behinds together. I'll be washing dishes. We washing dishes. I'll be washing
with joy together. Washshes, I'll be
washing with joy. That's how mine goes. It's, mine's like
climbing the stairs. And then Miriam is like climbing some not
so steep stairs. So Miriam starts like this. Windhas let's try that again. Wind has once more. When wash dishes,
I'll be wash dishes, I'll be wash dishes. When wash dishes, I'll
be washing with joy. So that's a rough
breakdown of Miriam's. Like I said in a
moment, we're going to hear it round and
round and round, so you will be able
to practice it. But the main thing I
wanted you to hear is that difference between Whas, which is mine climbing
the stairs and then Miriam's slightly different and they sit together so nicely. And then we're going
to learn Emily's part, which I picture it as
climbing down the stairs. So it goes when I'm
washing dishes. I can't help but
put on a sort of opera voice with this
male opera voice. I don't know, because it's
a bit out of my range. When I'm washing dishes, I'll be washing dishes. When I'm washing dishes, I'll be washing with joy. So down the stairs. And then
you'll notice at the end, it climbs right back up. And it's actually above my part, so Emily's part climbs down below my part and
then climbs up above, let me try and sing
it very badly. Again, this is why I'm so glad to be working
with Emily and Miriam because they've got
much better range than me and they're so creative
with their harmonies. So let's just try and learn it. When I'm washing dishes, I'll be washing dishes, coming back up, washing dishes, I'll be washing with Joy. It switches where
you're singing as well. People talk about chest
voice and head voice. So for me, it's nice to sing
that last bit in head voice. Anyway, that was me doing my absolute best to explain
how it feels for me, how these parts sit together. Now what we're going
to do is we're just going to sing them
round and round. First of all, we'll
start with my part, and then we'll do Miriam's part, and then we'll do Emily's
part each 14 times. First of all, let's
start with mine. When I'm washing dishes, I'll be washing dishes. When I'm washing dishes, I'll be washing with Joy
when I'm washing dishes. I'll be washing dishes,
washing dishes. I'll be washing with Joy
when I'm washing dishes. I'll be washing dishes. When I'm washing dishes, I'll be washing with Joy
when I'm washing dishes, I'll be washing dishes. When I'm washing dishes, I'll be washing with Joy. Now, Miriam's part climbing a not so steep set of
stairs when washing dishes. I'll be washing dishes,
when washing dishes. I'll be washing with joy
when washing dishes. I'll be washing dishes
when washing dishes. I'll be washing with Joy
when washing dishes. I'll be washing dishes
when washing dishes. I'll be washing with Joy
when washing dishes. I'll be washing dishes,
washing dishes. I'll be washing with Joy. And lastly, Emily's part where we climb down
the stairs and then back up again when
I'm washing dishes, I'll be washing dishes. When I'm washing dishes, I'll be washing with Joy
when I'm washing dishes, I'll be washing dishes. When I'm washing dishes, I'll be washing with Joy
when I'm washing dishes, I'll be washing dishes
when I'm washing dishes, I'll be washing with joy
When I'm washing dishes, I'll be washing dishes. When I'm washing dishes, I'll be washing with Joy. Lovely. So now you know all three parts from
washing dishes. I hope you enjoyed learning
how to sing this song. In the next lesson, we will be listening and
singing in four D, so make sure you grab
your headphones. See you in the next lesson.

when I'm washing dishes. I'll be washing dishes
when I'm washing dishes, I'll be washing with Joy
when I'm washing dishes, I'll be washing dishes
when I'm washing dishes, I'll be washing with Joy
when I'm making breakfast. I'll be making breakfast. When I'm making breakfast, I'll be making with Joy
when I'm feeding baby. I'll be feeding baby. When I'm feeding baby, I'll be feeding with Joy
when I'm washing dishes. I'll be washing dishes. When I'm washing dishes. I'll be washing with Joy

on to Miriam's part. May you be happy. May be we. May you may progress. May you find peace. May you be happy. May you we may you
may crawl crass. May you find peace. May you be happy. May be we. May you find. This song is inspired by the
Buddhist practice Metabavna, which is a practice for
cultivating loving kindness. Meta means love and Bavnaans cultivating
through the practice. You cultivate love through visualizing, sending
it to people. Usually this practice is done in silence and there's five stages. In the first stage, you send the blessing
to yourself. In the second stage, you send it to someone
who's easy to love. In the third stage, you send it to someone
you're indifferent to, like somebody who works
in your corner shop, that you have no
feelings towards, or someone you bump
into on the street. The fourth one is someone you find a little
bit tricky at times. Then the fifth one is
everyone altogether, and you visualize sending it
to yourself and everyone. And then you can even spread
it out to the whole world. Through this practice, you
develop more loving kindness. I used to practice this
meditation and sometimes I found it hard to concentrate
when you're in silence. I like this song because
it's a way of actively sending that blessing
when you sing it, you might think about
it in those stages, singing it to yourself, singing it to someone you love, Singing it to someone
you're indifferent to, someone you're
finding a bit tricky. And then to everyone. Then
if you're a bit interested, I why Buddhist practice like this has become
interesting to me. I actually wrote this song when I was struggling
with a family member. We weren't seeing eye to eye. This relationship still to this day remains
challenging to me. I wrote this song to sing for them, as a
blessing for them. And then as well as that, just an interesting story is
that the reason I got into this particular style of Buddhism that's
called Tr Ratner. I'm not a true rata Buddhist. I'm not identified
with any religion. But true Ratan Buddhism
is something I studied quite a bit and went to
a number of retreats. That is because in London, my housemate discovered
the London Buddhist Center and it has now gone on to become a ordained nun and her Buddhists
name is Garavati. She's got some interesting
talks on Youtube. I think that's everything
about this song and what it means to me. I hope you enjoyed learning
how to sing this song. In the next lesson, we will be listening and
singing in four D, so make sure you grab
