1. Welcome to the class: Hello, My name is Mandy and after Brown to tinkering, I love creating their things speed and follow-ups, coping, woodworking, bookbinding, painting on textile work. And I've so many things for myself and others. And they also love to convey the joy of making things oneself. And to experience that adrenaline rush. Things, excellent, working out the way you want them to. Also to came to oneself. Focus on my brand is making uniquely sculpting miniature jewelry on my shop, on my profile, which SE will help for it by the title is not there. I've decided yet, but another passion of mine, which is to create very unique and beautiful gifts. But the problem I had was gift-giving is that wrapping them uterine, it creates a lot of ways. So with this series, I would like to remedy that by making fabric and gift wrapping that it's washable, reusable, easy to use, and easy to store. And the one we're going to make, this class is going to be this one. This gift wrap is perfect for books and clothing. I'm going to show you how to make two different versions. Both of them at easy to use and easy to store. One that has a ribbon closure and can be tied into a boat, and one whose size can be adjusted. Both of them are pretty on their own, but I'm also going to show you a few atoms so you can customize them even further. You will learn how to create double-sided fabric pieces, top stitching, well crew and other closing mechanisms. You will also learn how to potentially unnecessarily fancy up your projects, although it's already done, because its intricate enough for this project. Our goal was to just use materials that I already had at home. This might not be the case for you as I've clicked x tan of this project is perfect. The user surplus fabric because you only need very little of it and the pattern is very customizable. There are few additional bits and bobs, but most of them you might already have lying around in want of. This project is also great for beginners and can also be served by hand. I used to swim a shame because I have one and also use an ironing board. But I will not go into teaching the fundamentals of either. This is second video part series on reusable get cramps. First one is already up by the publishing date this video. And once the third one is as well, you can find it on much. In this video. You will obviously learn how to make this gift wrap things to that easy to make him well, while all your friends and family members and you will also learn multiple ways of problems or when there is lot of personalization that can happen within one simple concept. And I hope you're as excited as I am. 2. Class project: For your class project, you will so your very own reusable okra and personalize it any way you want. Choose from the options I'm going to show you in this class, I debited to avoid that fits your needs. And once you're done, share your project in the practical gallery and tell us where the planter up and I won't be with you every step of this journey, explaining all the steps you need to take and pros and cons of one method. The most of them will be detailed instructions for others, it will increase sources. Then first of all, might explain it better. But also to highlight the, my way obviously isn't the only option. You can go wild with the concept of get you where you want to go. With this. We're basically creating a blank screen you to play with. I am very excited to see what do we create together. So let's get into this. 3. How to sew Version 1 : For this project, I started off with a medium weight cotton and as lime green. Well, then we need chalk. Pins. Thread in any color you choose. Crow in either a contrasting or coordinating color and something to measure triangular robot on normal one from each of my fabrics, cut a square, 42 cm, and I am done. This ended up measuring around 37 cm. As a first step, we need to mark the placement of the Velcro. This won't be reversible. So choose to fabric you want to have on the ad side, lay down the ruler and mark the diagonal sides. Then measure how long do you want to be and cut for both sides. You could obviously also just measure and cut, then cap the end of them into an error shaped to mimic the edges. Once all it's cut, we need to pin it down. You need to pin. And so one side down first. And I started to go with the prickly side as it is stiff. And I personally like to get the trickier part of offers. Start off saying a few stitches back and forth to anchor, to paste down. Tried to place your stitches on the flat edges, the world CRO, will be secured better that way. So very close to the corner. Then lift your presser foot, pivot and continue sewing. If you want, you can sell back and forth a little bit here to really secure at dram. Then pivot for last time and continuous sewing. And you should end up something like this. Then we're going to repeat the process with the softer piece of Velcro. Struggling through, pinning it down and slowing it down under flat edges. And once all the BellKor's attached later two pieces of fabric together, pretty sad to criticize and pin them together. Paying close attention to the conus but avoiding to vote curb. Cut off the excess fabric. And soda two pieces together, being careful to leave a gap so you can turn it right side out later. Once you're done, cut the corners, and then turn the whole pairs right side. I chose to go for green bobbin thread for top stitching asset will show less on the inside and the next step, top stitch all around the pyramids up my pace. Of course, paying extra tension to make the edges look neat. Then we're basically done. So I thought it's currently gift-wrapped once they close. But to change it, we only need two small pieces of craft which I can cut to fit into the corners. Then pinned down little fluffy page to prickly side. And so it down, ideally sewing it on top of existing about critics said will be less visible from the other side if you plan ahead a little bit better than I did, I would recommend sewing in on before you. So the tape pieces of fabric together as saying through two pieces of Velcro can be hard on your machine and ended up meeting to hand. So my prickly paste down. This is finished gift wrap to wrap their place it in the middle of your gift wrap. And I like to fold in the longer sides first, wrapping tightly and securing it with a shorter piece of Velcro, then fold into shorter sides, securing it again, you kind of quiz, shows it around a little. If it looks uneven and we're done. But it does look a little plane. 4. How to sew Version 2: For this project, I chose to go with the flow or cotton and purple corduroy path mesh at 50 by 50 cm, you would need pins. Of course, thread. Two pieces of ribbon, mine where 50 cm and the pair of scissors or two year old son need a smaller piece of proven for loop and a button. Or as it turns out, for first step is Iron Man, which I know isn't the same thing in the world, but it really helped to start off with a clean canvas. Next step, one to finish off the edges of your ribbon. Mine was woven, so I used a very tight six x stitch. But if you then Tadic here can just mount the edges with an open plan. But please be careful. Now we're going to assemble everything to Cronus diagonally from each other. Will each get a ribbon, sandwich it between two pieces of fabric and pin it down. One of the other corners will receive a loop fault. You're a small pizza for urban than half and pin it down the corner. I started off with a horizontal one and then also use the vertical one half depending you can sell it all took it that they use a straight stitch around the whole perimeter depending on the hub care for your measured, you might find there's a little bit of overhang at the corners, which is totally fine. Chest unpin. Possession. And banks. Sure. You're also catch the shorter piece of fabric. Even if you didn't say yet. So up to the corner, lift your presser foot and then pivot and double-check kept in the right spot. And then you can do the loop. You basically do the same thing, being even more careful because small pieces shift, I feel want to be extra careful. You can scrub back and forth a few times to secure it better and continue to sell the rest after perimeter. Leaving a little opening to turn everything right side, back and forth here so you can secure to stitch. Then you turn it. This might get a little bit fiddly depending on how big enough pinning your left. I find this to be better from Berlin. Sing, living in opening that's big enough to turn, but smaller than to not cause, but unnecessarily extra work when you want to close it up again, 5 cm should be good for something that big when sits all under pretty side again IN to make the next step easier. Which is going to be top stitching around the whole perimeter with an even distance from the edge. Be careful around the corners because it might get fiddly with all the ribbons death. But if you take your time, you should be good To continue all the way a brand on that end. So back and forth for a little bit to secure your stitches for your buttons space your robot on the diagonal and markers somewhat even distance on the opposite side of your loop. I started off with 3 cm but then went for five. Then precession your patterns. As I said, it changed my mind here because I thought having them further part would give me more flexibility. And once you're happy with the placement, it's time to sell them down for this side chain to go. But I'm very utilitarian approach. I usually go through the whole Soviet times, then insert a needle between the space of button and fabric and then loop, thread a few times around. So it creates a little bit of space that helps with the loop. For this, I use the same thread as I did for so. Now, if you want to learn a more refined way of sewing on a link us in the class description, which is by Bernadette banner, introduced into way more detail about the correct way of throwing on buttons. On the first try at this closure, I just used one button, but I found out that even though I selected a ribbon that did have a little bit of elasticity, a greater number of buttons give you way more flexibility in the size of gift you want to wrap. And thus makes this gift-wrapped much more versatile. With definitely recommend going with more than one button. Once he had. But selling on all your buttons, it should look something like this. At this point, I realized that there needed to be whole in order to feed the ribbon through. That needed to be more about five-fold. The did all in like an envelope to figure out where I want to hold to be handmade tomorrow with the talk today I forgot to mention. And then I take cat my buttonhole foot. If this is something get down to first, check your machine because you might have the settings for it. But you can also replicate it with a very tight six x stitch. Alternatively, you could also use eyelids or grommets, or even said to buttonhole by hand. It is only one. Tutorial is for base, also in Bernadette Ben as class in the class description. If you go for any f two options, you will need to cut a hole with a sharp pair of scissors. And there you have it. Beautiful gift wrapping for books or clothing that you can adjust to different sizes. To use it here deep to first close the button. Then feed your ribbon through the button hole. Pulling it tight. Then turn the whole thing over and tie a bow in the front or back. And it is ready to be gifted away to a loved one or to whom. 5. Let's get personal: For our first and then we need to strip that fabric ion line. We need pins, read a small piece of fabric, scissors, and sewing need. First off, we're going to attach a small piece of Velcro through small piece of fabric. So you can attach your add-on. I need to pin it down. And then carefully. I ended up taking out the pin directly before sewing because of the whole thing too much. Because I haven't mentioned it yet. We're going to make a bow. I had on. This piece is going to be the not. So your fabric needs to be long enough to fit around the other ribbon and about as wide as you want the boat to be. My Rubin was 2 cm wide, so I should have gone for four by 2 cm, a centimeter seam allowance on each side. Hold your fabric and half pin and so it together, leaving a gap to turn and I choose to sell it on both sides, seams. So to bug crew would be the first thing to turn. And then we're going to do long strip of fabric together. This was about six by 50 cm once they're selling, to give it back, to see me and cut the corners. Do then to turn it upside down. The chopstick kit I used here greatly helped me in, but it also have poking out the coordinates to make them nice and crisp. Once they were turned IN them carefully and folded the open edges. In words, this will be sound shot with the top stitching we're going to add to make it all look cohesive. Top stitching, again, should have been quite close to the edge. Take clip time when doing this to make it look nice in the end. Finish it off by bringing the lip read to the inside. Now let's turn to two strips into a bot. Bring the signs to the middle, like so. And it just until you're happy with the shape. Then take the smaller piece and wrap it around starting with the end. With that throughout crew. You can see here, but mine was a little too long, but it's an easy fix. Painting this down, a bit shaky, but it just needs to stay in place. And once said, You can hand so everything down. It can be a little bit precarious if you placed your pins. The way I did. Next step, we need fabric, embroidery hoop and embroidery, needle, embroidery Yan, in whichever colors you like. I'm Mark com, preferably at disappearing one and says it's going to embroider on it. You want to choose a fabric that has made them to have the weight and doesn't stretch. Fabric in your embroidery hoop. And keep on pulling and adjusting until it's really taught. For the first gift tag, I chose to embroider the name of my partner and I choose a split. With this, you want to first make care regular stitch and then go back in from the back and about half the length after Stitch, splitting the threads. This gives your lines and almost braided look. They have crews many different ways to embroider and very many different stitches. And I will link a few resources in the class description, additional tutor name, Olsen made and I let you in satin stitch. And to make care rough pattern, you want to take your piece of paper that loosely fit it in half and snip off the tips up two corners. Doubled. The size works for you and nothing is peeking out. Mark the shape onto your fabric using the chalk. I forgot to mention, and don't forget to seem it now and cut everything out. Bec, I chose to add few simple interfacing, coupon and Velcro. For the other, end, a piece of string or ribbon. And the smell. Kind of normal pins and scissors and thread mat. Take your ribbon folded in half and place it on the top of your GIF tech pieces facing inwards, faced yet at park on top and then pinned it to them to get them fixed or ribbon with a horizontal pin to figure out to placement. And play them went in with two vertical ones to make it easier to so the two pizzas to get them all around the perimeter, leaving a small gap to turn. Turn the whole thing, potentially realizing that the gap is indeed a little too small. And the last step is to top stitch, Eric, good thing to finish it off. Starting and ending at the ribbons, so it's extra secure. Of course, I tried to bring the leaf threads to the inside. But after I did, was fused together so well that it was probably not really necessary for the Velcro gift tag. We're going to start off by painting the Velcro, which ideally should have been a little shorter than the fabric to remedy that when sewing it on islands. So quite to the end, leaving about 8 mm or so of seam allowance. But 1 cm would probably have been better. It's not that big a deal that not having this stiff pay for interfering with your siem skipped here cleaner result. But anyways, coming off the overhang and after painting, you can so Ditech together SS know ribbon here and left a small side open for turning, cuts back to seam allowance and don't forget to clip the corners. Before turning everything right side. Both in the fabric on the open side up here, check and pin it down. And the last step is to tap, stretch everything to make it look nice and finished. And now you can easily decorate your eye, popping on booze and gift tags. And further ribbon version. You want to just feed the ribbon through a yearly and then tie the bow on top. There is a view on asking, could we noticed chest making gift tag from paper? Take some ribbon and colon today? Yes. Yeah, absolutely. 6. Final Thoughts: Hope you had fun in this class and confident to take your own multi-use gift reps. I personally love to try new things and see what that skill can teach me. Now the only tangible products and products, but also in an underlying structure after skill, what I find with sewing is that it tends to be a structured process. There are some steps that really need to happen in a specific order for it to look good in the end, which is nice to say that you can save things if you mess them up. But planning ahead, especially with my wolf projects, definitely has its benefits. So in the end, I have this project will not only courteous to make your own re-usable, gift-wrapped to do would use your environmental impact while looking kid. But it might also give you skills or rather way of problem-solving to discipline, KeyVault to multitude of other projects you'd like to tackle that one yet. And don't be too hard on yourself if things don't go exactly the way you want them to, you're going to have a much easier time looking at crafting as journey. We continuously learn new skills than arriving at a destination. And now you suddenly, I want to get perfect results. And anyway, it still runs through creative problem-solving. Sometimes turn out even more interesting. Please share your creations and the class project folder. And if you post pictures on Instagram, please tag me at a tinker it I would love to see your creations.
