2. Essential Home Music Studio Setup: Hey, friends. So you are interested in getting started making music? Awesome? Because in this video you learn how to set up the foundation off your own home music studio . All the essential things you need to start making music making music have never been easier . Just think about how it used to be. Artists needed to record and produce their music in super expensive studios with huge mixing consoles and all kinds of hardware equipment. Today it is very different. The powerful home computers, software, instruments and effects have made music making into something many people can afford and learn. So what do you need to set up your own home music studio? Well, off course, it depends on your personal needs and wants, but I am going to teach you what I consider to be a basic home studio set up with all the essentials for modern music production. The first thing you need is a dedicated place to set up your home studio. If you have a spare room you can use, I would definitely recommend it. But it is perfectly acceptable if you only have a corner of a room to set up your music studio in. In fact, that is what I used personally for many years. If you're going to record acoustic instruments or vocals, you should take some time to tame the acoustics of the room. By this, I mean that you want to reduce the room sound and echo. In order to improve the quality of your recordings, I am sure you have experienced how much echo you get when you are in a completely empty room. For example, when you move into a new apartment, this is because the sound waves on lee have flat and hard surface is to bounce. Um, which increases the amount of echo. So what can you do to control the room? Acoustics. Soft materials are great for absorbing sound, so I recommend you to use big and heavy carpets on the floor, more furniture in the room as well as shelves on the walls. This will disperse the sound ways so they'd bows in different directions, which will decrease echo as well. If you have a window, you might want to use heavy drapes. Since soft fabric greatly improves the acoustics of the room, the second thing you need is a desk to be the base of your home studio. I recommend you to get a decent sized desk that can take quite a lot of weight, since you will need place for lots of heavy equipment. And it does not feel good if everything is cramped together with no place to spare. Also make sure to install some kind off cable management to the desk because there will be lots of cables. No getting around that I'm afraid when you are done, place the desk facing the shortest rule of the room if you can, because this is better for the acoustics. All right. Now it is time for the command center off modern music production. The computer. This is the single most important to you need for making music. Whether you choose a Mac or PC does not really matter. Alyssa choose software that is only available for one of them. The important thing is that you need a powerful computer to handle the workload off all the software, instruments and effects you will use. CPU performance is the single most important factor, followed by RAM memory and then storage space. I personally recommend making music on a desktop computer with a large monitor or even dual monitors set up, since it will me much more efficient when you don't need to scroll around all the time. But if you prefer to use the laptop instead, it works justice. Fine. Just make sure it is powerful enough. So what is powerful enough? Well, I would say at least a Jew core CPU with 2.0 gigahertz, eight gigabytes of RAM and 50 gigabytes of free disk space. That would be my minimum requirement for a computer to make music on. But if you want to be able to use more soft for instruments and effects, you should invest in something more powerful. To be able to record vocals, instruments and monitor your music, you need an audio interface. This is basically a piece of hardware that connects to your computer to outside gear like microphones, guitarists, studio speakers, headphones, etcetera. The modern standard audio interfaces are most often connected to your computer with a USB, the amount of inputs and outputs various, but I recommend you to get an audio interface that has at least one microphone input one guitar input one steer realigning. Put one master output and one headphone up out foot. Even if you don't play the guitar or seeing personally, you might want to invite someone who does for one of your future songs. Up next is the software you need to make your music with. In professional terms, this kind of software is called D Aaw, which stands for digital audio workstation. There are many choices here with the different work clothes and overall layout. I have personally used many of them throughout the years and finally settled on Logic Pro X , which suits my workflow perfectly. Here is a list off the most common D A doubles use you can check out many of them have trial versions so that you can test him for a short period. I suggest that you take some time to find out which software feels best for you, because you will spend a lot of time working in the D. A. W you choose all day. W's come with lots of instruments and effects straight out of the books, but when you get deeper into music production, there are many third party plug ins and sound libraries you can invest in next. It is time to invest in a good microphone. The best part is that good microphones are not very expensive today. There are many different kinds of microphones you can use, but for vocal recordings, you should mainly look for a large diaphragm condenser microphone with a cord oId pickup. Patton. This mites how to be technical, but it is practically a standard for music studios, So I advise you to visit a music store and simply look for vocal microphones designed for studio recordings. Remember to also get the accessories you need for your microphone, such as a microphone stand, microphone cable and a pope filter. The pope filter is a piece of fabric that basically saves you from getting the distorted, popping sounds. When saying letters like P Now you need something to input notes with into your computer and music software, a device that you can use to add all your melodies, chords and rhythms. I am talking about a meaty keyboard. Midi is basically the digital data used by music software for musical notes and values. A media keyboard comes in different sizes and with all kinds of features. Some have lots of knobs and buttons that you can, for example, use to control your software instruments in your D A W, but in essence, all you need or the keys. There are meeting keyboards from 25 keys up to full piano sized 88 keys, even with weighted keys to feel like a real piano. Personally, I feel that 49 keys is the smallest size to use as your master maybe keyboard, because then you can use it for both base and playing chords or melodies at the same time. But before you buy a midi keyboard, visit a music store and try out as many of them as you can test various sizes, how the keys feel as well as the extra features. Next up is headphones. Even though speakers are generally best for monitoring your music accurately, I would say the essential studio set up should start with a pair of high quality headphones dedicated for music production. The main reason I believe headphones are more important than speakers is simply because most of us have neighbors and family members to consider, and we don't want to disturb them, especially if you like making making music late in the evenings. So what should you consider when choosing headphones? Well, most headphones on the market had a false representation off the sound frequencies present in your recording. When producing music, you want accuracy when monitoring the sound. So look in the music stores for a pair of headphones not in the electronic store. Here is a summary for you. The essentials for creating your own home music studio or a dedicated room. The place for your home studio. Set up a quality disk. The base for your home studio. A powerful computer. The command center of your studio on audio interface. The hub of your studio A D A. W This software you record and produce music with a microphone to record vocals or acoustic instruments with a media keyboard. The device to input melodies, chords and rhythm with and studio headphones to monitor your music with Awesome. This will get you started to create your essential home studio set up. But if you want to learn how you can expand on this set up to take your music studio to the next level, join me in the next video. My friends
3. Professional Home Music Studio Setup: friends. So you want to learn how you can expand and upgrade your home music studios it up into a professional music recording and production studio. Awesome, because in this video I will share a list of tools and equipment you can invest in for your home studio. These are things that can increase the quality of your productions, boost your workflow and basically make your life as a music maker easier and more fun. The first upgrade of want to recommend is studio speakers, also known as studio monitors. You use them to monitor your music with when you record produce and mixing tracks. They are decided to have the very flat frequency response, which basically means that they give a true representation of your music. This is very important when you mix your tracks. They should also be active speakers, which means that they have amplification built into them. This means that you can connect the stereo output from your odor interface directly into your speakers without going through an external amplifier. Even though most D A W's come with lots of sounds and instruments, they are not often off the highest quality and can soon become boring well, you can get more instruments and effects by investing in third party plug ins for your software. There are thousands of synthesizers and instrument plug ins on the market, and thousands of software effect begins as well. But this is more because if you only have a few plug ins, you can invest in quality and also have more time to truly learn. Each one will. Recording vocals in a room that is not professionally acoustically treated can be a nightmare. You will get a lot off echo and room sound into the recording. That is why my next upgrade recommendation is a vocal reflection filter. This will drastically reduce the sound reflections, since it basically works like a minute sized vocal booth. It is much cheaper than a real vocal booth, but will still improve your recordings a lot If you want to have more control when programming your drums and percussion, I can recommend a pad controller. Sure, you can record your beats with a media keyboard, but the feeling is not quite the same. The pads are laid out better for drums, and the trigger action is much foster and therefore more fun to use for making beats. You really have to test the pad controller to understand what I am talking about here. Paddle controllers also often have special features and short cuts to speed up your beat making process. Few things make it feel like a music studio, like acoustic panels on the wall. It really makes the whole home studio feel more professional, and I can tell you that it does make a huge difference. To reduce the echo and room sound. There are the classic egg crate shaped phone boards you can use, but if you want to get some sound absorption in the lower and mid frequencies as well, you should get heavier and thicker acoustic panels and also some based traps in the corners . If you really want to get more hands on feeling when making music and use lists of your computer, keyboard and mouse, you can check out a D A W controller. These are hardware devices that you used to control the most common features of your D a W with like mixing. For example, there are some D A W controllers that you can use in any d a w like the one I use personally called the Mackie Universal controller pro. And then there are application specific D a job you controllers like ableto push, for example. So to sum up the upgrades I recommend for a professional home studio set up or one studio speakers to monitor your music with to software plug ins and effects for higher quality and range in sounds and effects. Three. Vocal reflection Filter to improve your vocal recordings. Four. Pad controller to program drums and percussion. Five acoustic panels for a professional feel and improved acoustics. And six a d w. Controller to improve your music production. Workflow. Awesome. Now you have learned all my recommendations to build your own professional home music studio.
