1. Introduction on How to paint turtle in watercolours: Hi friends. I'm Alla, I'm a Sketch Illustrator and water colorist. And they invite you to a new Skillshare class, how to draw and paint turtle in watercolors. In this class, I will share with you step-by-step guides how to draw the turtle, how to use the fluid mask, why we use it and when we use it. And then we will start to work with watercolors. In this class, you will learn two main techniques. That's usually we work in watercolors. First main technique, it's wet on wet. Technique is very specific because in this way we create really beautiful transitions from one color to another. This is always the same way we use to create one tone for the background. We create the main colors at the beginning. And then we will proceed with wet on dry techniques. Wet on dry techniques are very useful to create details, to understand more about the shadows, mid tones, and so on. After we will paint with wet on wet and wet and dry technique, the background, we will proceed with the turtles. We will analyse the turtle how it is, how to apply different details. And then this way you will create a very beautiful there too on your own. Let's get started. 2. Supplies you need for the class: The supplies that you will need to work with your turtle will be this one. You will need a piece of paper of watercolors. It should be 200 GSM or higher in density because you will have to work with different washes and the paper needs to not get damaged throughout the work and as well that the transitions took created small sphere. You will need a washi tape and the specific interface that you can stretch up your work in this way, it will be just easier for you to work with what the cars and the paper is not getting waiting for the drawing, you will need a pencil. Now. It can be an a B, or an HB. It depends on pencil unit. And you will need an eraser. These kinds of eraser or this one. I advise to use any of these erasers but try not to remove, really tried to remove the lines very thin. And this way that the paper is not getting damaged, that later on watercolors, you want to see unpleasant things on it. Afforded the watercolor is D, All of this loop will need some plain water and hairdryer because you will need to try each layer. In this class. I will make use of white mask, fluid mask. What it is for these fluid mask, we will use it for covering the turtle in this way. That's why we're working on the surface so that there is no color coming up. On the third, it is really important that you pay attention how to use these fluid mask. We will need a specific paintbrush. I advise you to use any brush that you usually don't work with it and that you are don't worry to get damaged. Before we start to use fluid mask, please take some soap on this paintbrush so bit well with the end, without removing the soap, you can take the fluid mask and paint over with them on, on the paper wherever you need, leave the fluid mask to dry. But meanwhile, it tries to remove kindly the fluid mask from your paintbrush. This soap will help you to remove the fluid Moscow well, and that the paintbrush stays, is not getting damaged. Throw the time anyway, it will get damaged. But at least it will last you more times to use, if you want to use the soap and do will work straight away with it being Russia, then you will see that the foot mask, once it dries, it damages a lot to the paintbrush and it is probably that the second time you cannot use it. When you're working with fluid mask as well, it is important that the work dries completely, that you don't use the fluid to paint over the work once the foot mask is still wet, because if not, the colors will mix up with fluid mask. You will diminish the people, you will diminish it the paintbrushes. And it wants stay well, once you have to move the fluid mask from your paper as well, pay attention to take it kindly from the paper because many times it can scrub and demonstrated on it. So pay attention to apply fluid mask. Nothing big quantities just enough to cover the space. And that's it. Let's talk about the pain rashes or we'll need for this class. The first paintbrush. It is a fat brush with which we will wet the paper to create the effect of wet on wet technique. Then I will use f bigger paintbrush around paintbrush. I will use squeal because this way it will take more color in Ruby, easier to work on a bigger surface and to create a smooth transition in-between the colors. When I'm working with the highlights to create the highlights on the paper, specifically for the light's coming up into the sea. Or while we will paint the turtle, I will create with plain water. Summer, I will remove the color. And to remove the color, I will use these flatband brush synthetics. Why I use this kind of paintbrush? Mainly because here of this paintbrush, it is not as smooth as a squirrel. And it will create really interesting and beautiful effects when removing the color. It allows us to remove it better. This way it is not damaging the paintbrush. We will work smoothly little by little with removing the color. And we'll leave the whitespaces. This paintbrush I want to use to paint something only to remove the color when working on the details and on the turtle itself. I will work with these paintbrush. It is number six as well, synthetics, basically because it is not as smooth as square root and it allows us to take more color, less water on it. And the details are more defined in this way. Then about two watercolors. I will use my 36 pence of watercolors, White Nights, and the blood that it comes here. In your case, I advice you don't have 36 pence to use the GUI to have. And I will tell you the colors you can then how to mix it up. Look whatever you have. You can also change the colors. You don't need to take exactly the same blue or the same green or the same brown color, just look what you have and enjoy more of the process. You will also need some tissues to create to remove the excess of water off the green bush and to have a cleaner paintbrush while working. I think that is e to, Let's get started with the work and to enjoy it. 3. Drawing in pencil a turtle: In today's project, we will talk about turtles. I really loved turtles and I think that it's a great addition for sea life class. And today we will try to make these beauty, beautiful creature. And I use a to B pencil. You can use HB pencil and my lines. I tried to make those border thicker because I want you to see this work Betsy in the camera. But in your case, please dry just to make the lines as being a responsible. Because lately we will work with the eraser to remove the unnecessary lines and to work with clean paper. Don't be afraid to apply many lines at the beginning. It is again that we are looking for the form. As I mentioned in my previous classes, a good drawing is our best friend during the whole process of painting. So don't think that we are wasting time by drawing the painting. Now I will remove some lines. Even if it looks like I am removing all the lines. Now what I will do after making this sketch, I will just apply the lines, inner ones that will guide me through out the work after I finished the June. Okay. Now I'm using an HB. So here we have the arm. Here, we have its feet. And over here I have some sand and some of the gas over here. And we can start with fluids mask to cover our beautiful turtle that we can go later and work on it. 4. How to apply fluid mask: Now it's time for fluid mask. And as I mentioned in my previous projects, I use the white masking fluid. I use it from Amazon. And before we use it, we take our paintbrush and apply some soap on it to work later. If we are not applying the soap, it is more probably that the paintbrush will be damaged faster. And we apply or fluid mask. To cover our beautiful thereto. All around, we will work with a wet on wet technique and we need that space to be covered. We will not apply over here. Water and fluid mask helps us not to have been chunk of our data. So after applying fluid mask, we will wait it to dry and later we will start the painting. Prepare your watercolors, water and paint brushes. 5. First washes, wet on wet technique in watercolours: I'll fluid mask is almost dry and I'll start with wetting the paper. For this, I used a flat synthetic paintbrush and I covered all the surface with plain water. Working properly the water the space, where will be the water? And to take care not to go to our third beautiful small. Now after waiting, I use red blue color and ultramarine. Ultramarine car. And we cover more space. Taking care, even if we apply the red mask and turn on the turtle space over here and just try to go close, but not applying on it. It is a k. That's our paper to get wavy because they wouldn't if we stretched it previously. It has to be it has to be stretched after it was a wet mass, I stretched it on dry paper. So don't worry, if it happens to you. I will apply some blue to our mix of Red Bull and ultramarine car. All right. Good morning. And I applied too much color over here at the beginning. And I want to make more light because we have natural lights over here. And I want just to remove how I do it. I take my water with my paintbrush. I remove the water from the paintbrush and gently moves. Remove the color. It is important to not apply with needs or too many times because the watercolor paper will be damaged. And it will be really difficult to work with. Here some lines. If I'm going too fast, please don't be frustrated. Just take your time. Stop my video and go on your on your time. How you feel about it. Now I will take a tissue and we'll make a very beautiful effect because I want to make some lights coming. And for this, I use already synthetic brush. And I leave white marks as I wanted to create this sensation of having lighting coming to our beautiful turtle and gently moves. Apply over here some touches. Now, I'm taking the same cover. We'll trim it in color and adding some blue colors. And now it's a perfect woman to create some waves because the paper is still wet. And make these differences. I put, we'll apply some indigo colors and gently moves. As you can see, I'm not rushing. I'm just taking moments. As you have seen already on the previous projects. We firstly work on the water, on the underneath, and then we work on the sea life itself. More ultramarine. And we can add some cobalt blue color. Very interesting, Coca-Cola. Take a small brush, Two more cobalt blue color. And intensifying over here the waves, the waves become bigger. And if we are going inside of the water, the water becomes darker. And on the surface it is lighter. So obviously we have more color over here. 6. Intensifying the background with wet on dry technique: Now I will take my paintbrush, my synthetic, and will create more differentiation of these light colors. As we're working wet on wet technique, it is really important to go fast, depending as well on the ward. Now on the watercolor paper you use, if you use appropriate paper of 300 g/m² and it's made of cotton, then you will not have to rush. These kinds of papers usually resist to stay more time, wet and do not have to rush. Taking more glucose, more intensity and color over here. Now I think it is a perfect moment to try. And then to move forward with the water and to make more darker spaces. Let's see how it turns after drying it with a hairdryer. I have dried a little bit. Now. I still want to make some lights coming. Now, getting more intensity and color. I add more cobalt blue colors, ultramarine color. And I take some interesting data over here. I add some blue collar working on my water. Now, darker. We have here very dark color of blue. And I will add even indigo color with ultramarine cobalt blue colors. To make this space. Very dark. Now we will work on August that we have over here and here and there. Triangle, wow. So I will take some English shrimp and some ultramarine colors. English shred Cynthia. Ultramarine or cobalt blue. Let's take some quinacridone rose color. To make it more interesting color. I need more intensity. And for this, I add more sepia color and cobalt blue color. Taking some WooCommerce, I can add some neutral black colors over here. Oh, cool colors. So here, over here, I used English rent sepia color, and we'll do marine and cobalt blue colors. Here, I added to this mixture as well, or click colors. And here I use quinacridone rose color. So we're here. And now we will try it and then proceed to work with our beautiful turtle. 7. First wash for the turtle: My difference, I removed the fluids mask. I derived that it can already dried and we can work perfectly on our total. I changed my water. I'm not mentioning it always, but please. Every time we make a change or we dress something and you need to work on another object. On our picture. We need clean water. Only if you use a really big or huge recipient or the water, then yes, you can tried to not know, you can not change it. Or if you are going anywhere and you are working on the free on the internet and bottom by the year then or on a sketch during your jealous then of course, we're not changing the word every time I'm putting these projects. Yes, please. I took now remember color. I'm adding more watery and I will apply on my total. And then we will add some modest predominant color sepia. To make a splint. I will add some English red cars. To make the color more interesting. Go over here. And then with taking case, I add two more on their color. On the turtle. What we do we use to look for different or Crick colors. I will use more ocher color over here. Very warm colors. English. Oh, group colors. Here. Now I will take a smaller brush and taking more color, sepia take we can begin to paint the details. I'm try. Wow. I tried and at the same time I was applying overdo the details over here. And I used for these English read with sepia. English, some ocher colors. I will add some yellow ocher, cadmium yellow. Your mouse. And I will take some more sepia. And we will try to make interesting with Mars color. They will try to make some interesting lines. That's what we have over here. I will add more raw sienna color or yellow ocher better. To make these lines clear. I will take some quick color one day adding more data. And let's go once again with Serbia and English red colors. More sepia. 8. Details, how to work on those to catch up the viewer attention: They can count trunk, leg. Okay. All right. Take some yellows and recoveries. Moving the intensity for the colors. Music can see what it did some all about the details. Interesting. Now as we already have some awkward and yellow colors over here, what I want to do, I want to make some spattering effect over here to create the idea that we have some cent. We take color on the paintbrush. And later with our finger applying small dots. We can take some yellow colors to make the work interestingly enough. And I will take some way to color. I have on my palate to zinc white. I usually prefer to use wash, but here I thought that it is followed in Detroit and white to color these were lovely addition to create some air in the water. I tried the work and I think that there's a proper moment. But two, you take a look and to see where you have to add some details. E.g. I. Saw that I have here more whitespace and they don't want to hurt to have it as well over here. Then I want to add some yellow colors over here. And they have some white drops. Taking more brown colors. Sometimes it's really important to stop the right moment and not to over paint and everything, but I will do this now. Let's see what, how are painting. Turns out. I'm really happy with the result. I hope you are really happy to. And it will be marvelous to see your projects over here. And the second, have a look at those. The work is finished, so wish you good luck and let's see your projects soon. Bye. 9. Last thoughts: In conclusion, I want to thank you to proceed with all this class. I hope you enjoyed the process of drawing, the process of painting the turtle. And now what I would like to ask you for is that you share your painting, your joy with me and with the community, it would be really helpful to see your works and that other people who also used to paint in this class that see your work. So thank you for watching until the next time.
