1. How to Paint Gold and SIlver Introduction: Hello and welcome
to my new course, how to paint gold and
silver in Procreate. Whatever you decide
to paint now and then you will have a
need to paint metals. Whether it's
jewelry, containers, utensils, even a metallic car. Knowing how to paint
metal is a handy skill. He's a selection of
gold and silver items. Golden copper have
warm tones and use different techniques
to silver, for example. Silver and polished chrome. And even some colored
polished metals are all about reflections. As they become almost
like a mirror. I'll show you how to
look at polish metals to get an authentic look
to your illustration. I'm including in
the class resources a base painted item
for color picking, and then the finished
item to show the screens that
gives the metal feel. I'm sure you'll discover
tips and techniques new to you with my
unique process. I would love to see your
creations uploaded to the class projects section
for everyone to appreciate. Finally, please leave a review as it lets me know
where I need to improve and gives me some encouragement to keep
producing new courses. Also, a reminder to
tap the Follow button above so I can notify
you of new classes. Have fun and enjoy the class.
2. Lesson One Gold: Welcome to this lesson
on how to paint gold. Whether you want to paint
gold jewelry, a sword, or a price cap, it's a useful skill to learn. Whatever you decide to paint. Reference is useful, especially to reference
the light source. To begin, you need your reference
picture and his sketch. To save time. I've provided this
template for you. So you can get straight on
to the painting process. Add a layer, and we'll rename
this layer colored fill. Go to the Select tool, make sure it's on
freehand and color fill. And now we're going to carefully trace around the outline. Colored pick a lighter gold. Now choose the studio pen
and just tidy up the edges. There. I think
that's about right. Making sure your sketch
layer is at the top. Go to color, fill
and add a new layer. Rename this layer shadows. I make this layer
into a clipping mask. So all your paint strokes stay within the
color fill layer. Make sure your brushes
on a soft airbrush. And also your eraser. Now using the paintbrush
and the eraser, color pick from your
reference photo. The various shades of gold. That's the main shades. Were not interested in
painting the detail just yet. I think that will do
for the basic shades. So we'll go to Layers,
add another layer. And on this layer
will paint the eyes, the nostrils, and
the coin slumped. So we'll rename this layer. Details. Color, pick
black of the eyes. Okay, if we add in the
eyes and the nostrils, there, that's done. I go to layers, add a layer. And we're going to paint
some of the lights. So they'll rename
this layer lights. Now these aren't the
very bright lights. This is just to put some of
the lighter bay shades on. We'll carry on painting. Now we're going to make a new
layer and rename this one. Right? That's the
brush quite smooth. Now we're going to put
in the brighter colors. I think at this stage, we can go into layers and
click off the sketch layer. We can see more clearly
what stage we're at. I'm now going to layers
and make another layer. And this is going to
be warmer, reflective. Light source layer. Rename this layer reflected. Now this is where the
lice may come up from. The bottom or reflected here
on the nose and the ears. So let's look for
reflected light. I think both start
here. I'm the boss. That's it for our
reflective light. Make another layer. This is going to be the
brightest highlights. So rename high lights. Now for this, we're going
to choose a pure white, a double-tap on the edge
of the color wheel, and start adding in. The highlights. Can also swap two. Very nice yellow. I think that is about it. So what we're going to do
now, make another layer. I'm going to swipe with
three fingers down the page. And copy the canvas. To set this action. Now, go into the wrench tool, Preferences, Gesture controls. And you see here the three
finger swipe is switched on, and that invokes the quick menu. Now, we're going to
go to our new layer, swipe down again and paste. So we have our painting
pasted on a new layer. So now we can switch
all the other layers off except layer one. Now we're just going to
work on our pasted layer. We're going to use
the blend tool. We're going to go
over our painting. Small brush, small blend. And we're going to blend in. Now when we finished blending, we're going to look carefully
at the pictures and adding little bits
that we may have missed with the paintbrush, on the soft brush
and quite small. Let's start at the feet. And I can see that
there's a shadow here. We'll blend as we go. Next, we'll switch
to the studio pen and just go around and
clean up the edges. Using both the eraser on the studio pen
and the studio pen. Pick a color that's
close to the edge. Just carefully go around. Either adding in line. We're using the eraser. Just keep checking
that you've got the parts painted correctly. I think that's about it. So now we can put
our finishing touch. So we're going to
go into layers, duplicate our
layer, press the N, and we're going
to go to overlay. And then to 20%. And that just gives us
a little vessel, right? Sparkle. And there
we have gold pig. And we'll move on to see
how to paint silver.
3. Lesson Two Silver: Hello, welcome to lesson two. In this lesson, we'll learn to paint silver or polished chrome. Painting. This finish is all about observing reflections and light and then translating them into the
illustrated object. To save time, I've also included a sketch as well as the
color picking picture. So you can get right into
the painting process. So let's get started
and paint together. First of all, we're going
to make a canvas 30 by 20. Then make sure you downloaded all the assets from the
resources provided. Bringing reference one. We're going to use this
for color picking. A reference to has all
the special finishes. So now we're going to
start with reference fun. Going two layers. Add a layer and
bringing the sketch. Bring the size up a little. I wanted to discuss with you a little bit
about the sketch. I provided this
so I can show you how to mark out the
different areas. So looking at the picture, you can see I've made shapes
from the different parts of the cup and not just
trace the outline. It's important to know where
the lights and shadows fall. So we can color, pick and place all the different lights and shadows and colors
in the right place. So let's make another layer. Move it below the sketch layer, and choose a light silvery gray. Now go to the Select tool. Make sure it's on color
fill and freehand. And then we're going to
fill in the base color. Now using the studio pen. Let's just tidy it up. Switching to the eraser. Just get rid of any overflow. Using the eraser,
cuts out the handles. Make a new layer. Choose a lighter
green, the blue. To represent the water. With the Select tool. Select the water layer. I think we might make that
blue, little bit darker. Now go into layers and
we'll rename water-filled, rename this layer, cut. And we'll rename
the sketch layer. So we know where we are. So let's start painting. Tap the cup layer, add a new layer and make
it into a clipping mask. Now we're going to
name this layer. I think that will
do for the shadows. Now before we move on, I noticed that the
base fill layer looks a bit of a pinky gray. So I'm going to go back into that capsule layer and
change the shade of gray and fill it there. That's a little
better, not so pinky. Next we're going to tap
on the shadow layer. Add a new layer, make this into a clipping
mask, and rename. Lights. Check where
on the soft airbrush. Now we're going to put
in all the light areas. Color pick and start to
paint the light areas. That I think fast will do
for the lighter areas. So go into layers, add a new layer, clipping mask. We'll rename this layer. Right. Now. This is for the, the
brightest brights. So we'll go into
the color wheel, double-tap, make sure
it's on pure white. Then we'll just go through and touch up the center
of the white areas. And that's all we need to do is now add another
layer, clipping mask. And we're going to call
this layer rename color, spelled the English
way, I'm afraid. Elections. Now if you look
carefully at the picture, you can see there's
quite a loss of color. Was obviously
something off camera giving us these red colors. So I'll put those in first. Then you will see that the water is reflecting on the rim. So I'll just put some of
the watercolor in the room. Now let's just turn off the sketch layer and
see what it looks like. He said there's quite a lot of work that still
needs to be done. But we need to blend
all these colors now. So we'll go into layers. Leaving the clipping mask off. We'll work on the water layer. So tap water pill, add a layer, clipping mask. Now we're going to put
in the watercolors. We'll just do all
this on one layer. Now we'll switch to
the blend brush, making sure it's on
the soft airbrush. And we'll put the size down. And gradually blending. Now go, go back to
the painting and just add in some of
these sharper lines. Swapping back to
the blend brush, just tidy the edges. You can spend quite
a lot of time just adjusting the the shades. Make sure you always brushing in the direction of the water. With a little bit more
brightness in there. Just creeped swapping
between the brush and the blend until you're satisfied
with your water layer. I think that's about it. He could quite literally
carry on for an hour on this particular part that I think you know what to do now. Maybe fewer whites, just put some more bright whites in there. I think I'll leave it at that. So now we're going to choose all layers
swiping, right? And we're going to group them, close the group,
duplicate the group. And then with this
second group layer, we're going to flatten it. And we're going to switch
off the first group. So all the work we've done, we've got contained
in this first group. But now we flatten the second group so
that we can go over with the blend brush and blend
all the colors together. I'll start blending. This will take quite some time. So I'll speed this up for you. I'll put this on alpha lock so we don't go over the edges. Now we don't want this
looking to build a hurry. So I'm going to switch to the studio pen and just
put some sharp lines. This dot over here. And define the edges
a little bit more. Now, we'll make the
background color a pure black double-tap. So he can see much clearer. The parts that we
need to adjust. Now, we'll take off the Alpha Lock. Choose a studio pen
with the eraser. And just go round
and tidy the edges. Make sure we're on
the right layer. Alpha lock off. Now we've refined the
lines and blended. Perhaps a little bit more quiet, honestly, you could carry
on for as just tidying up. Right? I'm just going to
go into the pure white again and just touch up
the center of the white. Right now we're going
to duplicate that layer and try some screens. Picture over here we
can see multiply, darken, color, burn, et cetera. I think overlay
is the right one. This will turn it down
to about 50 per cent. Looks a lot brighter. Now we're going to
duplicate the Cut, Fill again, lose
that onto the top. Go into the screens. And this time we're going to try Color Dodge to bring up
the maximum brightness. But we'll move that right down to about 20 per cent. Add a new layer. And we'll go into
the procreates. Luminous brushes. These come with procreate, so there's no problem here. Choose a light pen and
we're on pure white. And we're just going
to touch up the edges. Go round the white bits, make them a little
bit more sparkly. Back to the luminous brushes. And we're going to choose
the flare little bit small and put our finishing touch. That's our silver cup. Completed. What we can do is swipe three fingers
down and copy the canvas. Add a new layer, and switch all these layers off. Three fingers down and paste. Now everything is combined
and we can use this time to go around the edges
with the eraser. Again. And just tidying up. There, we have it. I finished silver cup. Remember when you're painting silver or any polished chrome? It's all about the objects off picture that reflected
into the picture. And also the top of the bowl is reflected into
the bottom of the bowl. Thank you for joining
me in this class. And now we'll wrap up.
