1. Introduction: Hi, I'm now cool Shroff. In this course, I
will show you how you can benefit from your
temporary work placement. So you could have
gotten a semi placement while considering are found in agreement or a temporary job either yourself or
through an office. And this is a chance for you
to get out there now into the business climate
to up expertise yourself and to construct
superb connections. This is a truly thrilling time since you have to
possess your vocation. So very much like you're the
CEO of your own business, you are the CEO of
your profession. And I know that sounds
extremely messy yet it's so obvious on the grounds that
you don't claim your work. You never own your work. Occupations are possessed
by organizations, occupations are claimed
by associations. You own your profession, and that could be the following, 102030 or 40 years. Presently, this job
might be for seven days. It very well may be for a whole year. Whatever
you were doing. I need to talk you through the procedures that
you want to set up and the exercises that
you wanna do to transform this into a
long-lasting position. Furthermore, in the event that this isn't a super durable work, I believe you should
utilize this to assist you with finding a
long-lasting line of work. So we will go
through all of this. I will show you what to do
on your most memorable day. I will show you what to do
in your most memorable week. What you do in three weeks, what you do on your last day, and how to eventually win in this present circumstance.
So we should begin.
2. Prepare for the first day: So let's look at preparing
for the first day. Very exciting. I want you to make sure
that on your first day you know what people are going
to wear in the workplace. It might sound
outrageously obvious, however you really want to know, it might be different to what
you wore in your interview. So find out what
the dress code is. I don't want you
feeling uncomfortable because you're overdressed
or under dressed. I've done that before.
I promise you. It was horrible.
I had a cardigan on and everybody
else had suits on. I felt terrible. I want you to fit in. So secondly, make sure that
you know how to arrive. So your interview
might've been offsite, your interview
might have been at the office yet it might
have been at 01:00 P.M. all things considered getting there at
09:00 A.M. you know, with the traffic or
public transport is all going to be a completely
different ballgame. So make sure that
you do go through at the time that you know
you shouldn't be there. I don't want your rocking up all sweaty and stressed because
you've been rushing. Thirdly, I want you to
consider this truly important. A many individuals
are going to come dependent upon you
and go gracious, informed me a bit
regarding yourself, you know, phrases like that. You're gonna be introduced
to so many people. It's your first day. Alright? So rather than just saying,
goodness, I'm Sarah, I was studying marketing
and Cardiff Union presently I'm here or I'm
a marketing graduate. So, you know, that's not
what your identity is. That's what you've done. Alright? We want to have a bigger
impression than that. So I want you to practice
a 20 to 32nd introduction telling them this for what reason you're there,
why you chose them? What you're most excited about, for what reason you're
extremely chuffed two bits to be there working with them. Who in the group you
truly want to meet. You want to work
with what you've cherished about the industry. Some of the stuff that
they might have involved in only 20 or 30 s, however, I just want you to make
sure that you practice it ahead of time
so that, you know, while you're meeting
these people, you're truly
confident and they're going to thank goodness, this person truly
wants to be there. They didn't just want something important to take
care of their bills. They truly want to be there
and that's going to have a massive, massive impact.
3. Manage your time effectively: So I'm going to
converse with you about managing your
time effectively. So filling up your diary 9-5 and this new workweek is something that you
might not be used to. What I would suggest
is to just take some time on a Sunday evening
to visualize your week. So where do you need to go? What projects are you
working on right now? So visualize the day and
afterward, worked through it. Who are you meeting at 11:00? Who are you meeting at 02:00? Who are you meeting at 03:00? Presently go through absolutely
everything just to ensure that nothing feels off
or rushed or too full. Because if on a Sunday
evening you're looking at every day and
something feels off, how are you going to
get from that point to there in 30 min, feels a little bit to Manoch, a little bit too stressful
now than it will definitely be too stressful
and Manoch on the day. So make sure that you
change anything that you want to change the location of that
meeting or move that undertaking back and
finish it the following week. Do you truly have to catch up with that person for eye-to-eye. Might you at any point truly
do it on Zoom or meat, perhaps being ready to deal with your time
on a Monday morning to ensure that you are
less stressed during that time will make
you more effective, more efficient, your coworkers, your colleagues, they'll
all see that you're handling everything
with no issue at all. So just sit down. I do it. I do it every Sunday evening and I always catch
something in the week. I think. Gracious. That's
just too full there. I want to move that meeting, push it back 60 min or might
I at any point drop that, makes sure that you do this on a Sunday evening to eliminate
any stress over time.
4. Manage your energy: So we've discussed managing
your time presently, I want to discuss managing your energy because
I think it's worth recognizing that
you're going to have a massive change to your
day-to-day to your reality. You might have come
from studying. You're going into
a temporary job. So perhaps you were jobless. Perhaps you took a career
break, whatever the situation. You're currently going
into Monday to Friday, nine to 58 till six, whatever the hours are, you're gonna be in another job. So there's gonna
be lots of focus you're going to need to
bring to the gig every single day and it will definitely destroy your
energy a little bit. Certainly initially, I recall my first work that I had
in the wake of studying. I was absolutely exhausted. I was so excited about this new position and I
felt all professional. N, However, at that point I got back home and my housemates
were like, How was it? What were people like?
Furthermore, I just couldn't talk. I was almost falling
asleep on the train. So just be extremely aware and be kind to yourself
during this time. So what I want you to do
is just think about this. Say no to three things that week that you would
normally say yes to. So we as a whole will have
loads of things going on. We have all of our personal
admin that needs to do our chores and all
that kind of stuff. We have our family
commitments, our friends, some other volunteering
stuff that you engage in. Of course, everything
that make you cheerful and give
you loads of energy. Of course their grade. However, just perhaps just wind it down a
little bit initially because we get up in
the morning and we only have a certain measure
of energy every day. What's more? We also only have
a certain measure of time in this temporary work. So I want to make sure
that every single day your energy levels are up here. You're bringing the best
version of yourself. And we're turning
this into something ridiculously Wonderful.
5. How to win friends and influence people: Presently I've called
this section How to Win Friends and
Influence People. And if you've watched any
of my training videos on YouTube or any of my courses, you'll know that this is
my absolute favorite book for your career
and for your life. How to Win Friends
and Influence People. The first lesson is that if you truly want people to
be interested in you, to care about you, you should be interested
in them first. So while you're going through
this work environment, I want you to be
super, super curious. Ask loads of questions. Everybody you meet at that
point is the most exciting, important person that
you've at any point MET, whoever they are, regardless
of their work title, asked them lots of questions. Make them discuss themselves. Everyone loves talking
about themselves. Make them feel seen, heard, and esteemed at that point because that's what
we as a whole need. The Hierarchy of Needs, Maslow's hierarchy
of needs, everybody, regardless of what
your identity is, needs to feel in our core DNA, seen, heard, and esteemed. It's a wonderful thing.
So make sure you do that. And not just by asking
loads of questions, you're going to build
wonderful relationships with them and rapport
where perhaps they're going to assist with
connecting you to somebody else or prescribe you
to somebody else. You're also going
to find out loads more about the business
that you wouldn't necessarily find out
if you weren't being curious and asking this
large number of questions. So the more
information you have, the more you know how you
can turn up tomorrow and add significantly more
worth than you did today. The second thing I want to say is to make sure you
take a journal with you just for the first two or three days or the first week. Presently, the reason being is that you're going to be given an entire world of
information and a ton of stuff that you might
not have known before. You're gonna be introduced to a heap of people that
you've never met. And there's gonna
be endlessly lots of things for you to recollect. There's nothing worse than
being told something and then feeling downright
horrendous because you want to ask them again, however you forgotten and you
don't want to bother them. That was me on my first work. So take a notepad with
you and just make notes. And when you're
talking to somebody, sometimes it's difficult
to build rapport while you're stood there writing down on a piece of paper, just explain to them. Sorry, this might
look discourteous. However, I'm writing down
while you're talking to me, yet to truly know that
you're busy and I don't want to need to return
and bother you again. And I know this is
truly important stuff and your time is important. Then while you're being introduced to people,
recollect their name. Alright, so Amy,
This is imprint. He looks after our
marketing function. I want you to do
one thing for me. I want you to repeat the name back to them for two reasons. One, because it will assist you with remembering their
name and I'm terrible with names and repeating it back always helps. You
might be the same. I don't know, however,
it will help. And two, it goes
back to that seen, heard and esteem thing. There's a beautiful, beautiful statement that says
something like that. The most beautiful music,
somebody can hear, somebody saying their name
back to them because at that point you've seen, heard, and esteem them and you
might not think it's a major ordeal yet it all helps with building
that relationship. So I've seen you've
imprint high-end print. I'm Sarah or I'm Amy. However, say their
name back to them. And then lastly, stay upbeat. And I know that this might
sound super obvious. However positive people like being around positive people. We as a whole have
terrible days. I have awful days. I have days. How
everything goes wrong yet when you go up
to work that day, you bring that smile. You are there to make.
This is temporary, Okay. This isn't a
long-lasting position. We want to capitalize
on the situation. So if you're having
a terrible day, save it for that phone
call to your mom later or your best mate over a
glass of wine tonight. Just make sure that
you are bringing the best version of
yourself every single day.
6. Get involved: Presently this bit is tied
in with getting involved. I want you to focus on decisions that are being made around you. Alright? I want you to look at who's
making those decisions. I want you to focus on why they're making these decisions. How are they communicating this information to one another? And how are these people
receiving this information? This is your emotional
intelligence, you know, get involved in as
various projects as you can and asked to go to his
numerous meetings as you can. And regardless of whether a directly impact your day-to-day, just ask if you can go along, give you great insight into the business or if I
understand your job, perhaps I can add a
steam in some way or do some activities that make your day to day a
little bit easier. Just watch as many people as you can and watch them
like a falcon. Some of these people
will show you some amazing skills and
you're going to master loads. You might see
somebody and think I truly want to be
like them one day and see things in
people that you admire and you might want
to hone in yourself. Yet, sometimes you'll meet people that won't do
things very well. And you'll think, Wow, Dave, deliver that information
to John actually, gravely. I couldn't have ever
done it like that. Trust me, in my initial days, I advanced so numerous things
that were so beneficial to me because I looked
at them and I figured I don't want to
do things like that. And I learned just as
much off those people as I did off the people
doing awesome things. So I want you to
commercially listened to everything around you
better believe it. What messages are
being delivered? When something great
happens in the business? I want you to sit back and think for what reason did that occur? For what reason was
that a success? When things turn out badly, I want you to sit
back and reflect and think for what reason
did it turn out badly? And have these conversations
with your colleagues? This is tied in with
training yourself, educating yourself, getting actually commercially and emotionally intelligent. So with this in mind, I want you to mingle with
as many people as you can. Be bold. Don't just wait for people to
introduce you to somebody. You get out there and
you meet with them. Don't sit back and be ignored. Because there's a saying
that people always hear. It's not about what you know, it's about who you know. Yet. That's absolute nonsense. It's not about who you know, it's about who knows you. So make sure that you get out there and
introduce yourself. Okay? So before I end this section, I just want to make a little
point which I think is super important at the point when you want people to get
things done for you. So let you attend
that meeting to let you get involved
in that undertaking, it's always, always
important that you show them the benefit to them rather
than the benefit to you. Rather than I couldn't
want anything more than to gain experience
and that might at any point come into
that meeting or could I at any point get
involved in that task? It's always about mine. I
at any point enhance you. Okay. Because they're
in a position of work, they might be thinking, I'm not here to give you experience. You're here to solve
an issue for us. So when it comes How
to Win Friends and Influence People always
make it about them, the benefit to them rather than selling it on the
benefit to you.
7. Build your network: It's truly important
that you get everybody's contact
details, okay? I want you to get
everybody's names. And this isn't just
everybody that you've worked with, people
in your group. This is anyone that you've
had a touchpoint with. So it might be a customer, it could be a client, it could be a supplier. It could be the people that you chatted too in the kitchen, however, they work in
the office upstairs. And ideally, if you've taken
my advice in this course, you've chatted to
essentially everybody, as many people as
you possibly can. I want you to build on
these relationships because there will be times, perhaps now, yet perhaps
in ten years, five years. I don't know when
you're gonna be looking for a task again, or you're gonna be looking
for an opportunity again, the relationships
and your network is what's going to be crucial
to you in that time. If you have beautiful, wonderful professional relationships, people that you can approach, you'll always have options,
and I want that for you. So it's incredibly
important that you focus on these
relationships now. So connect with them
on social media. Yet not just social media, you've have to recognize the differences
between Facebook, LinkedIn, every
social media platform has its own psychological
headspace, if you like. So Facebook is kind of like being at home in
the living room, having a glass of
wine or some tea, LinkedIn as being in the office, having a conversation
in the office. I always think
Twitter is kind of like being in the
bar after work. So it's still kind of
corporate wire business. Why? Yet It's a little
bit more informal. Is that right? So make sure that you choose
which platform based on the relationships
that you have with these people and
connect with them. Yet more importantly, stay
in contact with them. Stay in contact with them. So schedule stay
in contact days. I call them kit days. So perhaps every first
Monday of the month, you might connect with them, or perhaps every three months you'll just
send them a How are you not so much about
you yet about them, you're interested in them. Recollect, it goes back to How to Win Friends
and Influence People, make them feel, seen, heard, and esteemed
in any event, when you're not
working there anymore because you don't
know who they know, you know, their friend, their nearby neighbor could be the business of your dreams. You might truly want to work for that organization and they
might know somebody there. So always, always, always
make sure that you leave people smiling and you leave people thinking that
they want to help you. Presently, however, for
the following 1020 years, alright, build that network and make sure that you focus
on those relationships. I promise you, if your
priority is relationships, that jobs will come. The jobs will always come.
8. Summary: So you have my
thoughts on how to get the most out of your
temporary work placement. I'm truly excited for you. This is a massive
opportunity and ideally, if you do everything right, it's gonna be ridiculously
truly great for your career. Presently, regardless of whether this is not the
work that you want, this is absolutely not even the sector that
you want to work in. I want you to still
go out there and give everything you
can to it because this isn't necessarily
about the people that you're working with
or the organization. It's about the people that they know and then the
people that they know. It's about always
having people that can suggest you
for opportunities. You know, you'd focus
on those relationships. The opportunities will come. You know, Janet who was in finance that you had a
little bit of a chat with her nearby neighbor might be the HR Supervisor of that amazing organization
that you want to work for. And then when you have
these stay in contact days, something could truly
materialized one day. What happened to me was the
point at which I was 21. I was working in a
mortgage division at a bank and it was definitely
not what I wanted to do. I realized I always wanted
to work in careers. However, it was a
great opportunity. It was only temporary. However, I took it and I hurled myself entirely into
every opportunity. I'm quite confident
now, however, at 21, I was not
confident at all yet. I still put forth a massive
attempt to converse with people because I thought
I'm only here for 90 days. I want this to work
for me long term. And my goodness has it worked for me long term because I'm a 36th year elderly person
now and I met somebody that I used to work with only as of late at a networking occasion. And they've made a
massive recommendation for us that's gonna be
brilliant for our business. That was, as a matter of fact, the specific reason why I decided I wanted to
make this course. I returned to the office, said We've must, you know, we'd have to write
a course on this. Focus on the relationships. And I promise you those
jobs will always come. In my terminology in now
cool Shroff language, I want you to go out
there and absolutely smash it and stay in
contact and let me know.
