About This Class

Welcome to my Skillshare class!

In this class, I am teaching how to draw realistic, lifelike human skin using nothing else but colored pencils.

When drawing the skin, I always use the technique called burnishing for which you will need wax-based colored pencils such as Prismacolor Premier or Caran D'ache Luminance 6901. Since they are both wax-based, they blend well together and I use them both for my portraits. My fans and followers always ask me what do I use to blend my colored pencils to make the drawn skin look like in photos without any pencil lines visible. My answer is: "I use another colored pencil" and I will show you how to blend and render colored pencils for professional results. I don't use things like underpaints or solvents. So, to enroll, you will need only colored pencils and paper.

In this class, I have included demonstrations of drawing 8 different human skin tones: light, medium, and dark. I will tell you exactly which colored pencil or a combination of colored pencils to use to create a particular skin tone so that you can use the tips from this class for your lifelike, realistic portraits.

Note: these tutorials cover only the skin, not the whole portraits. However, you will learn to draw basic tones, highlights, and shadows so that you can apply the techniques and combinations of colors to your future portraits.

I am waiting for you so jump in the class and let's get started!

1. Intro: 2. Which Colored Pencils I Use and Why: Okay, So let me show the pencils that I have at home. I have this big set by former Castell polychrome ous 120 pencils, but was against you. I have hardly used um but they're very good. They're actually oil based. And I'd like workspace color pencils. They have a lot of great bent ills that I really like. And they're manufacturer in six years, which is very helpful for creating smokes credit. And so I have created swatches of colors. Yeah, this break helpful, sir. Here you can see we have solid blue that I really like to use when I colored the sky and pencils. The cars are really good And so they're not too bad, actually, but I don't. I really rarely used them. Then I have during color soft pencils, 72 pencils. Eso was again. See, also, I haven't used them, but these are also very good. Montel's and I also have a Durand Brickell are also 72 pencils, both pro color and color software wax based pencils. But I actually boat them to include them in my color picker application, which is suggestive pencils for the selected area. And I also have these two brands included, but they're pretty good and I just don't use them because I was Prisma called premier mostly, and it's like habit. But as you can see, a lot of colors are very reach. Some of them are Are not that rich. You can see these pinking, but here we have a lot of rich colors, so probably I'm going to use them. But and then I have conduct luminess 6901. So these are my second favorite, my further Prisma core premier. But these These are very high quality pencils and wax paste, and they can be easily blended with the Prisma core premiere together, so I often use them to get her. And ah, they're a bit thicker than personal club premier and much more expensive. But really, it's worth the paying for high quality pence's because it's really enjoyable to work with them because there are so creamy and soft and can be easily spread all over the paper. And, um, I usually use them when I don't have appropriate color by personal color premiere. Here we have a lot of the skin colors and I like to use thes to draw the skin. And I like this the raw numbers and French grays and I often use gobbled blows for the sky . This air Very good colors. So I really like them. And here I have Pres Mikel or Premiere. I have the biggest set, 150 pencils. So I think this are the most popular pencils among the artists. So this are wag spaced, highly pigmented, rich in color. They're good for blending, burnishing, layering and ah, we can really create a smooth textures and, for example, skin human skin. I think these are the best pencils for human skin. Of course, Cardassia, as I mentioned, also have the good pencils. But as you can see here, we have much more. I like to use this for the skin. I can create a lot of combinations of colors and of course it depends on which one is supplied first. And so we have a lot of reds, blues, greens and you can see. But what I like the most are the grays, cool grays, warm grace and French grace. I think that these are depends is that I used most. These are very helpful in adding the depths to our drawing send in creating smooths gradient, which is a very important thing in ah creating realistic drawings. 3. Color Mixing: the most important thing when mixing up the color pencil is the order in which we applied it pencils, so the first layer of the color will impact the final color and ability to work over it to build up layers. For example, if we apply dark brown first, as you can see, we won't be able to erase that. Not even wouldn't X Acto knife, because the dark brown pencil will caller the fiber of the paper completely. But let me show you when we apply cream us the first layer and overdub, we apply it dark brown how it will be totally different. So just apply it cream or any water, similar color pencil. And now we can go over with Dark Brown and also can see it is not even that dark. So you have to count on this. Sometimes it is very good and useful, but sometimes it is not. So. We really have to consider which one we apply first. As you can see, I really press very hard and I can create the caller that I created on the left Sad with last Swatch in life side when it was applied of the first layer and I have to press very hard and to go over and over again. And no matter how hard I press can create that dark color and now we can go over with an X Acto knife. And as against C, I just removed dark brown and we can see the cream under it. So this is very useful for drawing the hair. If even if you want to drop brown hair, you go. You create the first layer with green, and then you just create highlighted. Here's with an exact and I as against C, I can remove that even with my nail, which is not the case here in the left side so I can remove the first layer. So us I mentioned this is a very useful thing, but yeah, we have to really consider which color we apply first. But this is very important. And let me show you one more example. I want to makes the orange and lime peel, and this watch will be orange first layer and the swatch on the right side. I want to make one more switch to apply it. Lambiel first. So here against see, I'm going over the orange with lime feel, so these two callers are totally different, and sometimes we can actually makes them up. And here I want to apply lime feel first, you know, let's apply orange over done. It's a second layer this time, and you can already see it's a totally different color. So as I mentioned, this is very important, and we have to consider which color pencil. We apply it first, because you can see how it impact the whole cooler in everything. Then sometimes we have to make the color differently, for example, to make to smooth radiant that we will talk about with more later on. But we have to create smooth gradin between two colors, So I'm now trying to create smoke gradin between the red and orange. So I start on the left side and press very hard. And then I just released the pressure as a draw doors the right side and under right side. I want to start with orange and also to press very hard and to draw doors, the reg and to go over the red color pencil. And then I pick up the red pencil again, and I just want to feel areas that where I have a clear edge visible because I want to make the edge between these two colors invisible. So this is smooth, Grady, and and this is very important in every realistic drawing. So you will need that. It is important to practice this, and now we can actually say where the red hands and word orange ends, and sometimes the colors are too vivid, and we need less saturated color than we have to reduce the colorful nous by applying some gray color pencils over them. Here, I want to create one swatch with crimson red when left side. I mean untouched since around and here on right side, I want to go over with the warm gray 3% to reduce the weirdness of the color. I was talking already about this and color theory. We dio and no, I'm neutralizing the color, but you can see it. It is less were. It is pretty darker. Maybe I should have used one great 10% or 20% but it's definitely less red. And now let's try to change the volume all for crimson red. This is also something that I was talking about, then. Color theory s O. I want to create three swatches and I use cream some red. And so I often drop by applying the basic color first. Then I create the shadows and highlights over that. And I will be showing that in a section when I will be coloring this fear and so on. So I changed the volume off my basic color to give my object around shape and to make it last flat here. Just watch in the middle. I want to leave like this. So this is a mid tone. And here on the left side, I want to make a darker And they used to skim read, and I go over the crimson ran to make a darker So this does come right? It's kind of dark, Rand. So let's bring a good match for Crenson rest, Okay? And now I want to lighten up this swatch on the right side that by going over with the one pencil so you might be asking, Why don't we just use pink here? Or why wouldn't we use Tuscan red on the left side alone? Just grant. Well, then it will be visible that we use different color pencils. And this way it all looks like different values off crimson red, which is very important when we want to shade something to give something a around shape. So it's not good if what you for use different color pencils. Some no matter which color bunts and you use your just choose darker hue off it. If you use the grass green, you just apply dark green, overdone and so on. Is that the very important issue for all those who want to draw? Portrait? And I. I received a lot of questions about that which color pencils I use. High makes the colors how I make the skin look smooth and how I blend the colors what I used to blend colors. So this is a very complex answer, and now I want to create few swatches. So sue shop being that's a basic color and were this. I want applied different color pencils to show you how will the colors differ after playing the second layer, so now imply applying pink rose. So this is usually when I want to create a skin similar to mine. The first layer is seashell pink in the second letters. Think rose. And as you can see, it's like almost like might color of the skin. So if I applied fit pink rose first and seashell is a second layer that will be a big, different color. And here I am, applying a rosy beige. It's a second layer you can see. It's a bit different color here. I want apply. Clay rose that squad darker. You can see the These are bread, different collars for the skin. So it's very useful to practice these combinations. And and now I want to apply beige sienna. You can see how all this watch is now look different. And here on the fifth Swatch, I want to apply Sienna brown, so when I draw the skin, I usually apply one pencil. It's a basic color want in this case is shipping, and I just covered the whole area, and after that, I go over with the watch to create highlights or with dark brown or beach speech. See an hour, whichever, too shade the skin to Croatia shadowed areas, but about that a bit later in practice section. But let me just show you when I draw dark skin so I applied beige, seen us first layer and Lima. Just create two or three swatches, so it's a beige Sana and over discolor. We can add a lot of water colors. For example. Here, I want to go over with dark brown. I don't know. I just like a beige scene that's a basic color for the brown skin. And then I It depends in tow environment in there and everything, which will be the second color. And now I want to shop late. You can see how it has reddish hue to it, so it's totally different color now. So it's awards practicing and creating your own swatches. For example, just apply based the caller great, like 10 swatches and go over with different colors to see what kind of colors you can get this way, and then you just write down what did did you use and in which order, and then you can use it. And here I want to apply dark number. So here we have, like eight combinations and really a lot of colors, a lot of types of skin to draw with this combinations and it only eight combinations, and we can make like millions, so it's work practicing, but of course we're going to practice 4. How to Choose the Right Colored Pencils for your Drawings: so how to choose the right colors for your drawings. So the best is to create swatches just the way we did in the previous video. Yes. Start with any cooler to suppose would match the best and then draw different colors over the swatches of this basic color. And then you have to print out your reference photo and to compare the swatches to do the colors off the skin. On your reference photo here, you can see the first combination that I drew with the Seasia. Pink and pink Rose matches the best. Maybe I would add a bit of white unless Dr with different reference photo How's it going to see? The first combination is also good, but with a bit of white. But for the mid tone is just a good color. Here you can see my color pull it that I created with rhythmical premiere for the skin. So I have reading over this watches which color pencils I used, and in which order. And then we have to create the holes and the swatches which will put over the reference part of that we have to print in the paper. So this way we will see what the color off the reference photo that we see through the hole matches with the color on all swatch, I said. This is a very good way of figuring out which color pencils to use and which combinations of color pencils to use for the portrait. I often use the pen Pick the color picker for artists that I have their loved to have my students in choosing dried color pencils and graphic councils when drawing from the reference photos. So we just have to upload our reference photo and to select the area in the picture. And the AB suggests which color or grab My pencil is the closest match to the selected Kohler. There's also a mobile version available, but this desktop version has theocracy future, which shows how close the suggested pencil wasted selected color. So if that shows above 90% and we can use that pencil with confidence and if it shows under 70% for example, then we should consider using the suggested fencer or makes it up with watercolor pencil eso. This are the pain abs, but you can buy them at the cost of fuel, color pencils and save you a lot of time in selecting the pencils and save you a lot of color pencils because you wouldn't have to create a lot of swatches. So this is very useful. But if you don't want to spend money, you can use any color picker online or in photo shop. Get some free abs and to check up for the colors. But the best way off figuring out which color pencil to use is experience. Practice trying out different color pencils to see how they look when drawn. 5. Other Tools (Paper, etc.): I always use this Bristol paper by February ano usually a four paper for months. As you can see, it waits 250 grams per square meter or 145 lbs. Which means that this paper is very thick and this is a very small space paper. And ah, a summation very thick and starting so it can endure a lot of flaring, burnishing, blending and it won't wrinkle s o. I really like working in a this paper and I use it to for both my carpenter drawing saying my graphite drawings. So just award using a common print paper that that's not good. So this paper costs about $89 for 20 sheets. But if you can buy this paper, it can be any other paper doesn't have to be any brand. It's important to buy smokes and pick paper. So I recommend getting some pencil extenders that we can use up the pencil completely and we don't have to throw out anything I have. Ah, the gauge of to extenders by Durand. It won his silver and one is black color. So I just unscrewed this sliding rink and I insert my pencil and then I screwed back. And now it can use it to it adds to the feeling of balance and ah, just like when you were drawing with a new pencil. So this is very good and useful sensory using expensive pencils. And this thing, either one is very good for a pres Mikel Premier, your pencils and the silver thicker one is I'm using for Kardashian, luminous and for Polly Calmus. And this, a thinner one is also good for hexagonal shape pencils such as some of graphite pencils. But you don't even have to purchase it. I have this part off my old mechanical a razor and Prisma Corp. American feet exactly into it. So just look around in your house. Maybe you can find some old ballpoint that you can use. And for pencils, you just get created somehow or ask someone to create us. You don't have to purchase it, but actually you buy it once, and then you can use it forever. It it will save a lot of money because you can use the pencils completely. But even after using this extenders, they will always be some part of the pencil. Like 1/2 inch or one centimeters that will just fall out of the extenders. Then you can can glue it to the pencil that you rarely use the here again, see? But I have glued it to the silver pencil that actually I never use, and then I can use it to the last Adam. Well, core pencils actually can't be erased, but I had this erasure by Hellickson and I can eliminate a bit off pencil. And also we can create some patterns with this, too. I also recommend getting an X Acto knife because this is also very good for removing some of the pencil, sometimes particular bright pencil. And I use this to for when I want to create highlighted hairs. So it's a very useful tool for drawing day animal. For in here I is a simple handheld sharpener, so it's no brand nothing. I bought this one in Tesco. It's in something like Walmart and United States. It costs, like last on the dollar, and so I never used electric sharpeners because I can't control them. They eat up too much of the pencil, and so I use only handheld once. A lot of people are complaining that per smoker premier breaks. And since there wax based, they really do break more easily than well based s O. The first reason is you might be using old sharpener, and I just want to try pencil with my old sharpener. And as you can see, it does break and let me show the brand new one. Hi usually used one sharpened for like 23 weeks. And then I replaced with a new one because it's very important and just tryingto sharpen your same pencil and, as you can see, doesn't break the second reason. Make sure they don't fall onto the floor because they won't break. But the lead inside probably will the third thing hold them next to the sharpener and not like this so far away from Not because, like this, you give them space to move. I'm in the wood and elite and just hold them finally and next to the sharpener. And the fourth thing is two point slowly and gently, and I hope they won't break 6. Light Skin Tone #1: Hey, guys, is Jasmine and let me show you how to draw skin with color pencils. And let's start with life skin tone. And this is the first example where I want to use seashell pink as the first layer and so lets you see shipping by personal core premier to apply basic color. So here we have to press very hard, and we should actually use circle emotions to create the smooth texture an Osby color to the center of the forehead. We have to press last unless because we want to create the highlight in the center of the forehead, and that's why we need lighter value here. And, of course, we're going to blend it with what? But it's always better to press less, so it will be easier to make it lighter than the surrounding area. - Okay , now, as a second layer, let's apply pink rose over the sea shopping, so just go old over the colored area and apply one more layer with the pink rose and also press pretty hard and in the middle off the forehead, press less so the same that you did with such upping. Just do now with this one s o. This pink rose will give more life, so to say, to the skin and it will look more lifelike. That's why more color mixing the color is important. OK, and now let's blend the highlighted area here in the middle with a white pencil, so just go over the area, were repressed less and burnish it with the white pencil. So here we have to press it very, very hard in order to to burnish and to blend this area. And of course, you have to create the smooth Grady in between the basic all over the skin and highlight, which means that you will press less and less with white OSU shade us. You burnish into the basic color of the skin so farther from the center off the highlight. So here we have to create the values that don't have visible edges between them. But that smooths gradation from shadowed a part of the skin to the highlighted and eso there's This Onley can be achieved by changing the pressure, and of course, we use like 234 pencils. But changing the pressure and controlling the pressure is the most important here, and of course, we have to press very hard if you we want to create that texture of the skin without visible lines and dots, because the burnishing would will eliminate all those lines that that nobody wants to see when they draw the skin. Okay. And now we can darken here, under left and on the right side. And I want to use clay rose over this over but both sides to darken it and it will make the forehead. And of course, the whole had appear around. So we need to create shadowed areas to So if you draw the whole portrait, this is the same for the cheeks, for the nose. Like everywhere we have dunker, we have made tone, we have dark tones and we have highlights. And this is enough. If you practice this forehead and you will be able to apply these things to the whole fortune here, also, we have to breast harder next to the hair and then just still lessen the pressure as we shade away from it. So as we shade towards the highlight, But of course, we shouldn't go it next to the highlight, but the stop somewhere like where we want actually, when it was necessary, and to lessen the pressure and to make this shaded area gradually disappear into the basic color of the skin, which also we can achieve by lessening the pressure on our pencil on clear owes. You can also use based sienna or raw CIB age, so these are very good colors for creating dish shadowed areas or the sea shopping dark brown. It's it's gonna too dark, so but you, of course, you can experiment with this pencils. Sometimes I use, even see Pia and I want to work a bit more on highlights because it seems to me that the smooth radian is not flawless in off, so I want to make it to work morning. If you exaggerate with highlights, you just go over with the color pencils that you use for the basic color, and you will dark in the highlights. So so you can make any mistakes because you can go over lighting up something and dark and something. Okay, so now you can see that there is no visible edge. A zit was before I burnished more with white pencil, so there's no clean edge visible within highlights and basic color of the skin. And just keep watching because I'm coming with different colors. 7. Light Skin Tone #2: Okay, now let's draw light skin. But this time, let's use burned okra 10% by car. Dash ruminants it. So this is a pretty simple because this is the main caller and the basic Kohler. And let's just start calorie with this pencil. So here also, we have to press very hard and to create it to, in order to create a smooth texture of the skin. I just want to create highlights with my pencil here above the I. So here also, we have to burnish and to create a highlights with a white pencil over the basic color. So just pressed very hard and go over and over again and again over the same area until you create a small stature and you cover the color evenly. Cylburn awkward 10% by carnage. Ruminants is a very good color for the skin, and if you combine it with Bernstein and a 10% you can create a very good life like skin color. You can even apply burnt sienna 10% 1st and then go over with the burned okra 10%. In that case, you will get a little bit different color, but of course, this is also something that you might need in here somewhere in the rights I want to to create a shadow cast by the hair. And that's why I'm going over with Clay Rose by Prisma Color Premier If you have Onley Cardassia, luminous, you can use burnt sienna 10%. It's so these two colors else also go well together, and I also want to go over with Burn Auker, 50% by Kant Candace Luminous And so this area has to be quite darker because the hair is casting the shadow here and now. Let's the color the rest of the forehead with the burnt oak or 10% by car national eminence . So this is a very simple step. I don't want to repeat myself all the time, so you have to press hard and to cover to paper evenly. And I just want to blend here to cash shadow with the same pencil with burn awkward 10% and now we can create a highlighted area here in the middle of the forehead. And of course, we don't apply White Council or the cash shadow only here in the middle and here also in the very middle of the highlight. It has to be the brightest. And then as we burnish away from the center of the highlight, we have to lessen the pressure on our pencil and actually to create the smooth ready in between the highlights and the basic color of the skin. So it's basically in each and every tutorial like this whenever we draw skin and we have to do the same. So it's a very good thing to practice this things here. And of course, here you have to press very hard with a wide pencil to eliminate a bit of burnt awkward 10% and to burnish it to lighten it up and to make it before had shiny and run to be around. Okay, and that it. So now you can add a bit of burnt sienna 10% or, if you want, said this is a pretty good color for a woman like with peach and pink. Don's 8. Light Skin Tone #3: Okay. Now let's use different colors for life skin tone and I want to use body beige as the first layer. And so let's just feel the whole area with body beige pressing very hard. This color is very good for the skin. - OK , but as you can see for now, it looks pretty harsh. It's pretty small, but not smooth enough and it's flat. I want to create some shadowed areas. Oh, here on the left side to make the neck more around so that I can see how bright highlights I need. And I use C P A 50% here by luminous and here also I press harder next to the edge. And then I released the pressure us I shade away from the edge towards the center of the neck, actually in words and here also on their teaching, we have to create the shadow that the chain casts over the neck and for this also use CPF a 2% by luminous unless they're the same here on the right side of the neck. So, by shading the left and right side, we have we give the neck around shape and here also pressed very hard next to do edge. And then I press less and less aside shade inwards because smooths grading has to be created here. And I use a bit of clay rose here or for the areas that receive last light. Okay, and now we can continue to create highlights with a white pencil. Here in the middle, we have, like something like sunken area, which is usually highlighted. And of course, I used a white pencil for this, and I just want to create highlights over the protruding Moscow's that used to be visible on the neck. And ah, I just press very hard with a white pencil and, of course, a press harder in the middle of the highlights. And then I lessen the pressure as I burnish away from the center to make that smooths gradin between the highlights and the basic color of the skin. - And now we can create some shadows that the protruding Moscow's cast direction of the self shadow of the protruding Moscow's with CPF 50% by law, Minhas And here also, that smooths Gradin is important that that's why we have to change the pressure as we shade away from the darkest part of the South Shadow and I also used clay rose by Prisma Core Premier because thes scholars work well together and ah C p A and clear owes or body beach will really create a good color of the skin. And as you can see, it now looks last flat and looks more realistic. And this colors look good together when applied one over another. And so that's why you can have to get a ride down this pencils and practice and use them for your portrait. It's if you have only luminous. You can use Bernstein a 10% instead of clay rose. And if you have only prisma color premier, so you don't have C P A 50% you can use CPI ABI Prisma Core Premiere. You can even use French Grey 70%. So there's air brake with callers also for the skin for shading the skin, and then you just blend it with a Glaros or even Rossi Beach. Even beige sienna is pretty good, but it will give, like something like brown tone to the skin. So and these colors are pretty different, so you have to consider. And of course, you have to practice to create swatches and to see which color works together with the honor. And if you overdo shading, you just go over with body beige again, and you can lighten up anything that is too dark. You just apply basic caller again, and I want to shade more the edge here with CP a 50% by luminous because it seems to be to bright and I want to dark and it so it's better to apply it last caller toe. Apply layer by layer slowly, pressing lightly, then to press very hard and to overdo shading because you can always add more. And it's quite easier than to remove and to lighting up the shaded areas. If you overdo shading and now with combinations off, see P 50% by luminous and Claros by personal color. Premier. I want to shade the skin that is not supposed to be highlighted or not. Even that actually has to be quite dark, erred and the basic color of the skin. And so we have to work with this pencils until we're satisfied with the result. Until the smallest Gradin is flawless enough. So even if you draw the nose so or some whichever part of the face this the technique is the same and used this pencils and try to create flawless, smooth, radiant to create a flawless sponsors. Gradation between the colors. And I just want to work a bit more on the highlights because there I want some of the highlights to be lighter than others. So I have to press harder and to go over again. And I keep cleaning the tip of my white pencil because it always big stopped the substance of the party beige, and I have to clean it up to be able to create the brightest highlights with the white pencil. - And OK, that's it. I hope that this helps you and that you will be able to use this colors for a portrait. It's 9. Light Skin Tone #4: now let's draw one more light skin tone and less. Applied body Beach was the first layer, and here also let's press very hard and use circular motions to create smooth and even texture. And as a second layer, let's apply burned Sienna 10% by aluminum's. If you have Prisma color primary, you can use a rosy beige. You can also use. Pink arose and now I was always when we dropped forehead. Let's create a highlight in the very middle of with a white pencil. So let's just remove the previously drawn pencils or actually to burnish them to lighten them up. You know we can create some shadowed areas next to the edges with sepia, 50% by aluminum's. You can use French gray 50% by prisma, color premier or beige sienna. So I was always We have depressed harder next to the edges and just to lessen the pressure as we shade inwards towards the highlight. But we don't want to press too hard because there's a still light skin, so we have to keep the light pressure all the time. - So just keep burnishing until you create a small stature, and I hope that this combination will help you for your portrait's 10. Medium Skin Tone #1: Okay, let's apply body be Asia's first layer for this one and same here. We have suppress very horn and to play a circular motions in order to color the fiber of the paper evenly. And now I want to add a second layer with Bernstein a 10% but aluminums. And if you don't have luminous, you have only pull it Prisma color premiere. You can use rosy beige. - Okay , now you can see that the combination of these two callers it will create like medium or 10 skin. But of course, we're going to shade into great highlights. And let's start with highlights here in the middle. It's like forehead, and we have to create highlights in the very middle with the with the white pencil. So let's just burnish here with a white band. So to lighten up to previously used color pencils and, of course, here the same we have to press for in the very middle in the center of highlight, and to lessen the pressure. Also, we burnish away from it and us always to create its most grand in between the highlights and the basic color of the skin. - Okay , and now we can create a shadows were actually the darker parts off the forehead all around . And I want to use clay rose by Pres Michael or Premiere. And here I press harder next to the edges, and I pressed lice and less as I shade towards the center of the forehead. - And I also want to use CPF 50% by dominance. If you have only per smuggled from Mary, can you see Pia? - And now here we can create darker values over this basic color. I mean, as much as we want. If we apply more layers, it will be darker. It will be just like medium or then skin that we want, - and now we can see what are our highlights need to be lighting up even more, and I want to smooth out the edges between the highlights and the basic color of the skin with a white pencil. So it's basically the same in each and every tutorial here, and I actually just repeat myself. But we always use different color pencils, and I hope that this combination will help you in creating Portrait's 11. Medium Skin Tone #2: Okay, Now let's draw medium skin tone, which is 10 or light brown with being under Don't, and let's use a rosy beige by personal color. Premier. You can also use Bernstein about 10% by luminous but press very hard. Or you can even use Bercy in a 50% and prince slyly and I want to create some shadowed areas with the burnt sienna 50% by luminous. You can also use Glaros by personal car premier, so these colors work well together because they have pinkish hue to them. And when you apply Bernstein a 50% by eliminates, you can blend it with Rossi beige by Prisma, core premier or with burnt sienna, 10% by luminous here I want to add a bit of burn CNN, which is the darkest of this three pencils values by Limonense Here you can also use clear owes or you can even add a bit of chestnut by personal car. Premier and I still use burn Sana, 50% to darkened. They're rossi beige to create the basic Don't off the this kind of skin, and we can even use dark amber to create the darkest shadow over this skin. For example, If we have some clothes or hair and we want and it casts a shadow over the skin, we can use Star Brown to shade the skin. And now let's do the same here over the lower area and same here. We started with raw CIB age, and we applied the first layer pressing very hard. - And now, if we have some clothes or here, we can use dark number to create the guest shadow, and I want to continue with C p A to shade the skin. - And here is the continuation. I want to use burnt Sienna 50% by eliminates again to make this lower area the same color as the opera area. - And let's create some highlights with a wide mental. And now you can see that it's a very good color for Mentone, for then skin tone or actually, for light brown skin. And just continue watching because we're going to draw brown skin next 12. Dark Skin Tone #1: Okay, let's draw this skin layer by layer in that area by area. I want to draw a bald head, Onley said. The upper part of the head without hair, and every time I draw brown skin, I start with beige seeing not so. This is always my basic color, which doesn't mean that this is the only way to do that. But I find it really good, and it will. The color is always natural, and it's always successful when I draw brown skin and when I start with Beijing, China. So let's just apply the first color everywhere. We want to create the basic color and, of course, the shadowed areas. So color with this pencil with base, seeing a pressing very hard and apply circular motions to create smooth textures. - And let's just skip the areas that are supposed to be highlighted. So here about the temple and in the middle of the forehead in here. So to make it more simple for you to understand, I want to split this coloring into into more faces that you can, since you can better understand. - So just leave on this area here in the middle of the forehead here are on the wrinkles because this is the highlighted area and we're going to focus on this separately. So for now, just skip it and draw all around it. Pressing hard, still using beige Sana. OK, no, let's add the next layer, and I use burnt sienna 50% by luminous. You can also use clay rose by personal core premier because they're pretty similar. And let's just cover everything that we have colored and with the beige sienna into previous step. And I also want to add a bit of wild gray by luminous. But if you used Glaros by president or premier, you don't have to do this step. I just want to cooler a bit with wild gray. And now let's shade over the edges to make the had appear around. So we have to darken the edges and to create a smooth Grady in between the darkest areas next to the edges and, uh, the mid area of the actually the basic color of the skin. And I use CPR by luminous here, but you can also use dark number by Prisma, core premier, or see Pia even express or or borrow brown. So all this. Coolers are very good, so the point is to press very hard next to the edge and then just lessen the pressure as you shade. There was the center of the forehead to make it a summation toe to make the head look around. And I want to use warm gray 90% here in the opera area next to the edge to make it even darker. - And I want to use Bernie Sana by luminous to add image of cooler. Here. It has reddish you to eat the scholar, and it's good to give the skin more colors. And now I want to continue with sepia to blend these colors together. - And now let's great highlights and same here. We have to use the basis sienna that we use for the basic color, but this time less. Press lightly, very lightly, and just he hold your pencil, a parliament to the paper. I mean the deep, and if you think that the applied color is too bright, you can go one more time over it, still pressing lightly it to avoid applying too much cooler and when shading next to the edges of the areas that we have drawn in the previous phase. It we have to press harder. And so to make this edges between these two areas less clean. And now let's go over the same areas and the same with play rose and also pressing very lightly. And so here the same. Just go over to previously shaded area. But this time using Clay Rose. - Okay . And now we can blend these areas that we applied to callers and I use the warm great 10% for this. So if the areas seem to be too dark, you just go over with white. And if they seem to be too bright, you apply more. But you see, you know, so you can always light in them up and dark in them with the mentors that we used. - And I want to darken here the edges between the basic or and highlights with Claros and we warm great, 10%. So just work on the edges until they you create that smooth, radiant between the colors. Okay, something like this. And I hope that with these colors that I suggested and with this method you will be able to draw portrait. It's 13. Dark Skin Tone #2: Okay, let me show you how I dropped brown skin. I always start with the beige sienna Subasic color. So now I want to draw on a warhead, and I want to feel the whole area with base Stana using circular motions and I pressed very , very hard, and I want to feel the fiber of the paper completely, so you have to press very hard. If your hand hurts, just leave it for the next day. I also, when I pressed very hard and draw for a lot of minutes, or on our I just can draw anymore is my hand hurts and, of course, tried to make it the area that's most it's possible. Just go back and he'll end areas that are while lighter course. We're going to go over this area to blend it and more colors. But it's always better if it's most, and it's better if you apply ser feliz. Um, mashes. So a lot of Chinese overlapping circles. It's better than to draw lines across hatches and the coverage is better. Okay, Fuck knows who it and now it. Let's greed to highlight here in the very middle where it used to be so those areas always highly eliminated. So what Ending highlights and a shadow. We will make it three d and we would give a round shape. And so go over with the white pencil Prince Harry heart. And you see how I actually eliminate a bit of based Sana Zaheer sewer in the middle and highlight has to be the brightest and that it has to gradually disappear into this basic color. So we have actually to create smooths Grady, and between the highlights and the basic color and this you can achieve all right, releasing to pressure when you're Bensel also shade away from the center of the highlight like this. If you overdo, you just go over with basin again. You're also gonna fly in circles circular motions like this. So if you're pressed very hard, you will Hi, lighting it up faster. But if you don't breast hard, you will also do the same. But then you have to work while longer. I just also gave you don't want him making Southern progress or you're gonna work slowly also. - So I actually go over with what? We're almost over the whole area. But of course I'm going to highlight here in the middle even more. And now you can see how it gradually disappears. How, like I created small spreading during these two values, and it is very important to learn to create, because if you know how to do this, you can draw anything would ease, particularly portrait's. And but any out of drawing anything else? I thought I could see the forehead has already around her shape due to this highlight as they're here on the left side. I don't want to highlight. We're going to create a shadow. Now let's focus on the highlights. So if you draw this the whole forehead area by area, but you should also actually trying to do that. But some are just drawn like that. Here. I want to use a white fence of by a luminous. It's quite harder than Prisma color Premiere, and I can press harder and you can see already how it becomes quiet broader because I can't repress this hard with Briz nickel or premiere. This pencil is gonna harder, and it's eliminate much more of the beige saner, because I want to make it almost a wide here in the very middle And of course, this awesome has to gradually disappearing To do surrounding highlights like this. I could cleaning the tip of my pencil to make it clean against it again removed beige Astana easily. So even if you can make a wide, absolutely a wider, actually very white area were bright highlight. You can apply a bit of the marker like this. I'm using a wide market, Brianna Rosca just stippling, getting a lot of dots. And while what? I just stop it with my finger and to see how it's almost white and the thoughts air Good, because the skin is kind of has patterns, a lot of dots and tiny lines. So it's OK. We add some dots here. Okay, And now let's create a shadowed areas, so we have to start over the edges. I'm using droplet here. We have to start over the edges and to make it to darkest next to the edges or next of the hair. And then just to make it burner and broader directionally to make that the shadowed areas gradually disappear into the basic color of the skin that we applied based and, um so I'm using chocolate because it's it's gonna has gonna reddish hue to it. And it's very good. It will give life to this color. But of course there are a lot of types of skin. Some of them are just more more brown, less red. So depends someone. It thanks and here again. See, I just start pressing each line. I press hard your next to the edge, and I just lessen the pressure as I finish each stroke. So each line, just like, has the smooth gradient its end. So particularly here next to the highlight those against the we hardly have somewhere the area with the actually shows up. The basic cooler and, uh, forehead is quite arounder next to the hair than it is like right above the I Breaux's. It's more flat, so we don't have to shade actually above the heil. Uh, actually, it is always pre highlighted above the eyebrow Rose residency. I have created some highlights here. Okay, And let's solve this side and I want to use dark number because this side here has to be quite star so much darker than the upper area, which also gets lots of light and same here. I press hard when I placed the tip of my Bensel and I start drying to line and I lift off slightly mental, finish the lines in order to create that Grady in transition It is. I can see the whole for head already looks kinda rounder, and it's not flat anymore. Okay, so dark number. It's pretty dark pencil to apply it first scores. There are some kinds of the skin that are very, very dark, and then you can, of course, supply dark number first. And you should actually play with with the combinations of colors and because the old won't be needing maybe only discrimination but different combinations for your future drawings. Not as they're going to see it very around. Concede that I'm going line by line next to each other instead of, like, circle or emotions that I use when I applied the basic core. But of course it can be used here, and where you see some lighter areas, you just go over them again and again until you make it the same color as the surrounding area. This because we want to make it smooth as possible. Of course, we can go over a jump lit actually to create a color between this very strong shadow and the basic color of the skin with jump plates where we can even use dark brown. We can also use CBR CPR. Often you see before every skin color. I mean, even for delight skin dawn Eusebio and in great pencils going over with the bases. So if you're dark in something too much, you just go over with the with pencil that you use. It's the basic cooler. In my cases they seen a and I'm Now I continue with chocolate and now here, close to the highlights of press very, very like me. And here also that smooths Great aunt is very important. We can also go over the dark brown, the dark number. We apply here with chopped left to blend it actually like this. You can see how it looks smarter now. So it's all about being able to control the pressure when you're mental. And, of course, you have to see difference. The volume was actually it's not bad if you when you make your drawing your scan it or take a picture and make black and white out of the pictures, you can see what are you have found of Waller's right and again can check it up every time when you draw something, you can see how chocolate gives nice reddish Tom to this to the skin, because beige Sana itself is just like nothing. But it's a very good base cooler work for the bronze skin. Of course, we have to go over and over again or the same area, and change something to compare with the surrounding areas. So it's spring. It really takes a lot of time. That's why we have to use a good paper like or think paper that one wrinkle under a lot of work. If you use the common computer paper, it will wrinkle it. One. It won't bear up with this kind of work. I want to use a bit more to remember, and you can see how it's It's not flood anymore. The whole forehead looks around. I'm in the upper and here in the left side, as I mentioned on Lee above the eyebrow rose, Your head is not round. You can even use a bit of dark brown, So when you press spree lightly with this pencil one you want dark in it too much so you can make a slow progress just very good. It's always easier to make a slow brokers than to kind of raise something or and prove change. You're still to concede that I have very clear edge between them area covered with chocolate and highlights. I want to use basic color again Basin to kind of make smooth scratch in between. So actually, to eliminate this edge, to color it as I can see no looks better. And I have planets circle emotions here. - Okay , You want to feel in with them? Dark brown. So this is actually the stippling that I mentioned and the tops off the lines video in basics. So go check up with one if you haven't watched. So I talked about the kinds of lines and why do we need to know? So here the stippling is also very, very good. You can feel in all those lighter areas or something. So if we have some dogs visible, it's OK because the skin is just like that look like that. But the visible lines when we draw cross address, that's not good. So nobody has such skin cross catches and Now I want to simple here with junk legs. So here, right above the I, bro, we have highlights always above the brow ridge because that bone is protruding and receives more lights than the area right about it.
