1. Introduction and Supplies You Will Need: Hi, friends. How are you? I hope you're having a really great day today. I'm excited about sharing this project with you. This is a drawing and Watercolor painting project that I designed, especially for kids. You do not need to have any drawing or painting experience at all to be successful with this project. I will take you step by step through all the steps that you need to take. Today, we are going to be creating this cute heart cupcake. Let's talk about the supplies and the materials that you will need for this project. The first thing that you'll need is a piece of Watercolor paper. You will need a set of Watercolor paints. You will need a paintbrush and a cup or a bowl with water. You will also need a black oil pastel or a black crayon and a paper towel. So go ahead and collect all of those supplies and materials, and I'll see you back here in the next video. 2. Step 1: Draw a Party Cupcake Design: In this step, we will draw our cupcake design. So let's get started. The first thing that we're going to do is we are going to create a heart on our piece of paper, and it's going to be close to the top, not touching the top of our piece of paper, but fairly close right in the middle. Okay? So come down a little bit from the top, and we're going to make a heart not too big, but not too little. Alright, so that's where we're going to start. Now what we're going to do is we're going to build from this heart, and we are going to build our cupcake. So starting on this side of our heart on the left hand side, we're going to make a curve line coming down, and then let's pretend like we're following this line, and then we're going to make another curve line coming down like this. That's going to be the top of our cupcake. Now what we're going to do is we are going to make the bottom of our cupcake, and it's going to be a series of s that are hooked together like this. Going to go all the way across until we touch our line. Now we're going to make the bottom part of our cupcake, and we're going to start here, and we are going to make a slanted line coming down, and then we're going to come over here onto this side, and we're going to make another slanted line coming down. Now we're going to close that shape right there with a straight line. This is going to be the bottom part of our cupcake. Now let's make a little plate that is holding our cupcake. So I'm going to make a curve lime coming out from this side, going around and touching this side. So it's almost like a big letter C that's been stretched out and turned on its side. Now, if you have room, you can make a little bit of more detail, and you can make another C that goes along that first one. And then if you'd like to add a little bit of detail to that, you can do that. I'm going to make some letter s, and part of them are going to go off the piece of paper, but that's okay. Going to come around. This just adds a little bit more interest in detail. There we go. Now, if you'd like to add something here in the middle, you can go ahead and do that. I think I'll just add some little dots. And then if you'd like your cupcake to be sitting on a table, you can make a line. So it makes it look like it's sitting on a table. If you have space over here on this side, you can make another line. Alright, now what we're going to do is move up to the top of our cupcake, and we can make some smaller hearts. So I think I'll just start making some smaller hearts. I don't know if you've ever seen the little sprinkle hearts. We've had those before on party cupcakes. Maybe I'll put one right here. It's pretty close to the first one. Okay, so now I have my top part all filled in with hearts. Now, I'm thinking that this is a little bit plain down here. So I think I want to put a cute little face. And I know that cupcakes normally don't have faces, but sometimes to make things extra cute, what I like to do is I like to add faces onto them. So if you don't want a face on your cupcake, that's okay, but I'm going to put a face on my cupcake. So I'm going to make a circle. I'm coming down about halfway and a circle. And then I'm going to make another circle right above that initial circle right inside, and then I'm going to color in that space except for that top circle. Going to be kind of hard, kind of tricky because my oil pastels pretty thick. There we go. I wanted to have a little shin mark there. If you like to make a different type of an eye, that's okay. You can do that, as well. Now I'm going to make a little smile right here. And then as I'm painting, I might make some pink cheeks right here. I haven't decided yet. Okay, if there's anything that you'd like to add in the background, go ahead and do that. I am going to keep my background plain. But if there are any designs that you'd like to put in your background, you can go ahead and do that at this time before we start painting. So in the next step, what we're going to do is we are going to start applying paint to our cupcake drawing. 3. Step 2: Paint the Design: In this step, we are going to paint our cupcake design. So let's get started. The first thing that we're going to do is we are going to add a drop or two of water into each pan of paint. And what this will do is it will soften up our paints a little bit. It will dissolve our paints so that they are much easier for us to use. So I do like to take a moment to do that. It doesn't take a long time, and it really helps. Now that our paints are softening up, let's turn our attention to our cupcake drawing. So in this step, we're just going to paint our drawing, our cupcake. And then in the next step, we're going to paint the background. So our focus is just going to be on the cupcake right now. So think about the colors that you'd like to use. If at any time you'd like to change your mind, go ahead and change your mind. This is your artwork so you get to do what you'd like to do. Going to start by painting my frosting. I think I'm going to paint my frosting orange because I like to use orange when I'm painting. And then maybe I'll use pink for my hearts. And I haven't decided yellow or green for my cupcake paper part. Okay? So I'm going to start out with that orange Alright, friends, I'm finished painting my cupcake. When we come back, we will start painting the background. 4. Step 3: Paint the Background: No. In this step, we will paint the background. So let's get started. So I'm going to paint my background here yellow because I'm looking at my cupcake, and I feel that yellow would be a really great color to make sure that this cupcake pops out at people. And then down here, I might use maybe some blue and purple and maybe some more pink and maybe a brown table. I'm not sure on that. Sometimes when I'm painting, I just start painting, and then I go with my feelings on things. And if I feel like painting a certain color, I just go for it, and it usually always turns out. So you paint the color that you like to paint, and I'm going to paint with my yellow. Alrighty friends, I'm finished painting my cupcake design. I'm really happy with it. I do have a lot of colors going on in here, and you may or may not have a lot of colors like I do. Whatever you do have, I'm sure that your cupcake looks amazing, and I hope that you enjoy this project. I will see you next time. M.
