1. Introduction: Hi, my name is Aska and I
make drawing tutorial videos. In this lesson, I'm going to
show you how to draw orchids. In particular, these two
different kinds of of orchids, starting with this one, grab a pencil and a drink of your choice and
enjoyed the lesson.
2. Supplies: All you need to follow
this lesson is any paper, pencil, pen, and eraser. You don't need any fancy or
supplies for my lessons. so if you're Ready, let's get started.
3. Guide: When drawing flowers or
anything for that matter, creating a guide is important. It helps us to get
the right balance. For this orchid. We're going to start by drawing a circle. You can freehand it or grab something circular from
around your house. I'm going to use
this washi tape. Let's draw around to create a
circle and mark the center. Now, let's divide
this into five imagine a star. Mark each point. Draw lines to divide the circle. Let the two bottom lines
go over the circle. The guide doesn't
have to be perfect as it's going to be
erased at the end. It's just a tool to get the
balance of the flower right.
4. Stages of the orchid: Now let me show you
each section of the drawing process to make the orchid much
easier to create. First, we're going to draw the main two petals here
on these two lines. Then we add in another
petal or called the lip. After that, we add in three more petals on
these three lines. Then we're going to add details
and to bring it to life. Finally, I will show you
how to draw the buds. Then put it all altogether to draw this bunch as it's
how orchids grow. Now that you have a
better understanding of the structure of the
lesson, Let's get right in.
5. First petals: So first we add two petals
on these two lines. Mark a dot just off center here. Now, draw a line like
this from the dot. And before you reach the
end of the guide curve, the line like so, and return to the center,
connecting it all together. So that's straight, curve, Straight. Okay, so now we do the
same on the other side. Make sure to leave a slight
gap between the petals. And that's the step one done. Don't worry if they're
not symmetrical.
6. Lips done: Now we're going to add
another petal called the lip. It's this one right
here. Sart by drawing a. Curved line like this. Add another one here. Now on the short line here
to connect all three. Next, draw a curved
upside down U-shape here. And a two tiny
circle the inside.
7. The background petals: Now we're going to draw three petals on
these three lines. Let's start with the left one. Start by drawing a
curved line like this. Then from the mid
point of the lip, draw another curved
line, connecting at a point. Make sure you're at the
end of the guide. Then do the same on
the right-hand side. Now we're drawing the
last petal here. It's pretty much the
same as the other two, only this time staying
inside the guide like so. That's the basic shape done. In the next stage, we add in the details.
8. Detailing the orchid: So to add the details, you use a thinner pen if you have one, but if not use the same
pen with less pressure. Practice on a separate piece
of paper if necessary. This is with normal pressure, and this is less pressure. Flicking the tip of the pen gets you a thin pointy line. Now, let's start with the lip. Draw a few lines right under this curve to create a shadow. Flip the tip of the pen and
fill this whole area. Now, add a line in the
center of the lip like this. Now imagine a curved line here. Draw a short lines
along the bottom of the imaginary curve, like so. This makes the orchid
look more realistic. Now let's move on
to the two main petals, draw short lines
at the base like this. Then a long line in the center. Then short lines coming
from the edge of the petal. And repeat for the other one. And Finally the
last three petals. Short lines at the base like so. But, not too close
to the center. Then the line down the middle
of the petal. Do the same for the rest. Erase the pencil
lines. And that's it. That's the first type
of orchid finished. These orchids are very
common in tropical places. In the next stage ill show
you the buds.
9. Orchid buds: These buds are simple. It's just a rounded triangle. So imagine a triangle
like this with a stem and round it off. They don't have
much else to them. Just add a line from the top and the few
details and it's done. Now you've learned how to
draw the flower and the buds. Let's put them all together
and draw this one.
10. Application: Start by sketching
out the guide, deciding where you want
to place each flower. Let's also add a simple
line for the stem. Think of the flow
and how it grows. Draw the flowers at slightly different angles
for more natural look. for the orchids you on
the bottom flower to be bigger as they naturally get
smaller towards the top. Buds get smaller
towards the top too. When the guide is done, sketch out the steps
of the flowers. As for the buds. They come out of the main stem
on a little L-shaped stems of their own. Make sure all the
stems stay slim. Once that's done, switch to a pen and outline
the base shape. Start with a flower. You want to be on top if they overlap. Once you've outlined
the basic shape, it's a good idea to erase the pencil lines so you can
see what you're working with. Don't forget details
on the stems too. Just like that. You've done. I like adding tiny dots, and stars around it to
tie it all together and make it my own. But you do you
11. Second orchid guide: Let's start with a new guide. Like the last one, we are
starting with a circle. I'm using this washi tape again. When you have the circle, mark the center, then draw a line right
through the middle. Now, draw a horizontal line a little bit lower than the
center of the circle. We then draw a small circle where these two
lines cross-over. Next, draw lines here. Here, dividing the bottom of the circle into four sections. Lastly, we're adding
two lines on top of the small circle like this. And that's the guide
for the second orchid.
12. Second orchid stages: First we're going to
draw the center of the flower inside
this small circle. Then add two petals here, then three more petals on these three lines and
lastly, the details. I'm also going to show
you how to draw buds. And then we're going to put
them all together to create an orchid bunch so if you're ready. Let's get right in.
13. Center of the orchid: So we're going to start with
the center of the flower. Start by drawing an
oval here like this. Then are too short lines below. Now add two curved lines connecting to what
you just drew, next add a short line
on this section of the guide and connect them together with a curved
line just like so. Repeat this on the other side. Now create a teardrop
like shape here to create a folded look. Next we're drawing a skirt
like shape, just like this. Filling in the rest
of this small circle. Looks like an angel, so I'm going to call it
the angel from now on.
14. Main petals: Imagine two ovals here. Simply sketch them in to
help you draw the petals. Now draw a kidney bean
shape over the oval. Start from the
head of the angel, come in a bit, out a
bit, then go around. and end here. Try not to go over these
guidelines here.
15. Back three petals: Now we're going to add three
petals on these three lines. Let's draw the left one first. Use this guideline
as the center of the petal and draw
a shape like this. And simply repeat where the
other petals go like so. That's the basic shape done. In the next step,
we are bringing this to life by
adding the details.
16. The details: Now we add in the details. Let's start with the angel. Most orchids
have a pattern here, so we'll create
that look by adding lines on the angel's
wings like this. Then add some dots
in the middle. Now, draw a short
line in the center of the skirt and a few more
next to it, like so. Next we're going to work
on these three petals. Start by drawing
a thin line in the middle of the petal like so. And also from the
top of the petal, now at more thin lines going along with the
shape of the petal. Repeat this process
petal by petal. Finally, we're going to
work on the two big petals. these two are very clean and
don't have much definition. So just a few short lines
from the edge like this. And a little shadow effect
around the angel like so. repeate on the other side. And we're done erase the pencil
lines and you've done it. In the next stage, I'm
going to show you the buds. It's very easy and simple.
17. More buds: These buds are simple. It's just a rounded triangle. So imagine a triangle like this with a stem and round it off. They don't have
much else to them. Just add a line from the top and a few
details and it's done. Now you've learned how to
draw the flower and the buds, let's, Let's put them all
together and draw this one.
18. Final application: Start by sketching
out the guide. Place the flowers using circles, overlap the circles, you
get a more natural look. Let's have a simple stem
going through the flowers. Think of how the stem is connecting all of the flowers. And then the rest of the
guides and some buds. Orchids get smaller
to towards the top. So keep that in mind. When you're happy
with the placement, draw out the actual flower
steps with a pencil. When you're done sketching, switch to a pen and
start outlining decided which flower you want on top if they are overlapping. For this one, I decided that I want smaller flowers
to be on top. So I started out outlining
from this small one, continue to the other
flowers one-by-one. Then onto the buds. Buds get smaller
to the top as well. Erase the pencil. Then add the details. That's it. You've drawn
an orchid bunch. I like adding tiny
dots in stars, but make it your own. What did you think? You can now draw these two
different kinds of orchids, practicing will
improve the result every time. So keep practicing and
become an orchid master. Thank you for joining me for this lesson. See you
in the next one.
