1. Introduction: Hi, my name is Yvonne. I'm painter and illustrator. I like to create with black ink, watercolor, pencils, and acrylic paintings. We all have a little voice inside of us that wants to say something, right? But sometimes you can't express yourself as much as you would like to. In the real world. Allows you to represent whatever you want to look at the world, see it with your own eyes, and then sublimate in order to create something beautiful. What would you like to manifest on your piece of paper? Nearly anything is possible. I want you to manifest an idea and put it onto paper. I would like to image you create to be inspirational to yourself and to others. When looked at, every creation has its own power and energy. And the world is constantly changing and evolving. So we can dream it and guide it in the right direction. We can all have an impact. I want you to explore and to be motivated to create something with positive emotions. In this class, we will explore various techniques and with your own words, I'm sure you will create a picture that has great impact. I will explain these to you in more detail in the next video. 2. Class Project: Creativity is unlimited and you can sometimes be confusing. In this class, I want to guide you through a series of steps with specific actions. I will engage you in funny exercises in order to prepare a final project, a beautiful illustration with text patterns and other graphical elements. First, we will learn how to plan this image, find some ideas, gather the elements you need to build it. Then I will teach you some techniques, e.g. how to draw composition of flowers or creates some words with typography found outside. Here are some examples of the kind of work you will create. I find very relaxing to draw with watercolor pencils. And it helps me to keep a healthy state of mind. Here is the content of the class. Then regarding the class project that you can share on the website, it can be one of the four exercises. There are four exercises in all. The one with characters, the one with the pattern on the pottery, the one with the composition of flowers, and the one with the text. But the best is to share the final illustration. And I will remind you at the beginning of the step when it is a class project. So to share this work, go onto the website of Skillshare and then into the projects and resources section of my class in your browser. There you can also ask me some questions and I will be glad to answer them. Please share your work even if it's not perfect. And be proud of what you did. 3. Material: Here, if the material that you will need for the class, you will need one pencil with an eraser. And you will need a thin brush. Then you will need black ink. I use Chinese tone, but you can also use a bottle of liquid ink instead. Then you will need tracing paper, one or two sheets and also one sheet of carbon paper. Those papers are useful for the transfer. But if you don't have those special papers, you can also copy your elements from your phone. By the way, you will need also a camera. And you can use the camera from your phone, it's fine. And then you will need photos of flowers and plants and texts. So you will need also printer device. And then you will need what are cut up fences and account order. You will need also water and a timer. I use a hurricane. 4. Prompt 1 Written Exercises: Let's start the class now. We will begin with two writing exercises and one draft with your ideas. So first, take three sheets of paper and one pen. Then on the first sheet of paper, write down some salts that you are currently having. It doesn't have to be related to a specific topic. Just write down some words that come into your mind. Like you do when brainstorming. In this way, you can warm up. It's like a scan of what is currently in your subconscious. Don't think, just do it spontaneously. We will do that for 3 min. Let me show you first. First I set my timer and then I write some words that come into my mind. E.g. electric, ferry, girl, send Chi stars, had and so on. Until the end of your timer. Now it's your turn. Stop the video and set your timer for 3 min. Ready? I will see you soon for the second exercise. Now we will start to look for ideas related to a specific topic. Take out the second sheet of paper. We will do a diagram. First, choose a word. I'd rather you chose a positive world apart the fact that the diagram helps you to find ideas. The purpose of this exercise is also to train your positive self. Choosing a world at the beginning is also a way to set an intention. It's like a point. The map that you can always go back to during your creative journey. Let me show you. Firstly, I set my timer and then I choose a route. I will choose the world hope. And then I connect to it another world category, e.g. noun. And then related to the noun category, I will ride e.g. blue sky, window or Ireland. And then I create another category, e.g. animal. And then I write my ideas related to it, e.g. butterfly, birds. Then what about people and their emotions? Are they crazy, happy? Are interacting? Then what about Flowers? Roses, and colors? Pink, blue, green. And it can be also verbs and ideas of movements. So e.g. touch. I'll speak and exchange. What about the background? So I read or write? Perspective and abstraction. You can also add symbols around. Your first idea. It can be the symbol on or handwritten letters of the world. Hope. When you have finished writing all the words connected to your first idea, you can draw a circle around those you want to use for your illustration. I want some being blue and abstraction in the background. People's peaking happy and crazy with handwritten letters and blue sky. Now it's your turn. Stop the video and do a diagram for about 3 min. Now, on the third page, I remind you that the goal of this class is to create a beautiful illustration. You might already have some ideas. So let's create a first draft on the sheet of paper. Let me show you. First I set my timer and then I start to draw my sketch inside the format. In my case, I really wanted to draw pottery as a symbol of wealth and abundance. So I will draw a pottery. And then this will be the main subject. And then I will add the secondary elements, e.g. people chatting together here and there. And I know also that there will be flowers above the pottery here and there. For a moment. This is just a sketch. You can modify it many times. Before the final version. You can choose the same subject as me or another one. Just remember that we will do some exercises related to it. I will also add some plants here and there, and the buttons inside the portrait. Then I add the colors. Now it's your turn. Start the video, set your timer and draws in the raft for about 3 min. I see you in the next exercise where we will talk about theory. 5. Theory of Perspectives: Let's look at a little bit of theory. By now, you might have a subject related to your initial idea. So the first point is, how can you represent a subject? So let's have a look at this page where I show examples of prospectives. In the first picture, there are subject of the same size divided into the form it. And in the second picture, the subject are divided up on a surface more or less further from the viewer. So they are of different sizes. And in the third picture, the subjects are in the background. So it looks like it, Mrs. something in the foreground. And in the first image, there is only one subject. And the view is slightly from above. And in the last picture, there is a subject in the middle. So imagine how your subject will take up the space in your picture. E.g. I wanted to draw a buttery in my drawing, but I don't know yet how I will represent it. As we saw, I can create a pattern. I can draw it symmetrically. Or I can draw it in the upper part of my form it and then write something underneath it. I don't know yet if the pottery has handled or not. If it's a slim or big one, I just want to figure out the composition. When you have a new idea added to your draft. As we explored the theory continued to complete your composition. Here is another example on how you can represent your subject with a frontal or a birthday view. It is less direct. In the second picture, I feel here that the effect on the viewer will be softer. Let's see another example with the images of the walls. It can be inspiring for the structure of your illustration and the space that lies in it. You can see the different structures here. And pay attention to the background and the foreground. If there is a whole reason or not. And I would like you to think about how your elements can feel the space in your illustration. With a few lines, you can easily draw a volume like this or give an impression of perspective. You can also imagine where you want to have a line falls in your picture. E.g. on that image, there is a vertical line in the middle. And that's very strong. They could split the image into, pay attention that the diagonals are also very strong and give contrast in your pictures. Wide horizontal lines give an impression of kindness. 6. Complete Your Sketch: Now let's go back to our sketch according to the theory we've seen until now. And in addition to the brainstorming we did previously, can you imagine a new version of your sketch? You don't need to represent all the elements now because we don't have the material yet. But there should at least be the composition and 56 subjects that you know that will feeder. In your illustration. E.g. the main subject, 23 flowers, one plant, and two characters. If you don't know how to draw an element, you can easily represent it with geometric shapes. And then you'll do the research afterwards. Ask yourself also, if we can understand the idea you want to communicate. And if we can feel the message, we draw some paths if necessary. Remember, the theory we've seen until now, the position of the subject in the picture, how many and the perspective. Let me show you how I will draw the new version of my sketch. First, I draw the format, and then I divided in three parts. Then I add diagonals. To give an impression of perspective. It will also have to have a background divided in several parts when I will add the kindness. Because to add on one big surface is quite difficult. Then I will add my paltry. Tried to make the choices consciously and with meaning. Which angle is necessary to help communicate your idea in the best way. Here, I did another little sketch previously of my flowers and my pottery. And here are some ideas of perspectives. Then I will add my flowers. But I also want to add the text around the flowers. I pay attention to the space around the flowers. I really wanted to add my text on the diagonals. So I will probably add the text e.g. the hope here, and freedom into parts. Then I can add my flowers where they are in our space here. And I also want to add a plant here on that surface. My characters here, instead of the handout. There are two. Basis mining will use the bathroom inside the bloodstream. And I can add nodes around the sketch for the colors, e.g. this is kind of green and pink. This is also green. And I also like the textures here of the black ink so I can use them for the shadows of my poetry on the wall. We add black ink here also, some shadows. Then the upper part of my illustration will be probably yellow, orange, red. I have gray for the floor. And pay attention to lead a free space in the lower right corner of your picture. To add your signature. There will probably be some other elements here, may be a bird. So now it's your turn. Stop the video and complete your sketch. I see you in the next video where we will begin to gather some photos. 7. Prompt 2 Gather Some Material: Now it's time to take a break and to go outside. I would like you gather the material that you will need for your illustration. Here is the list with the minimum number of subjects that you should find outside. Then photos of flowers to photos of plants and leaves. And one main subject, and photos of worlds with a nice typographic. Regarding the words. It's better if you take photos of words with the letters you want to use. You can also take photos of patterns, textures, colors, and shapes that inspire you. You can plan your illustration around what you find outside. If you can't find a subject outside, use a free archive of images, make sure that you have at least one main subject. It is better if you can imagine how you will use the photo in your illustration so you know how to take it correctly. On the other hand, you can change your sketch if you found new ideas with the photos until the final illustration, It's an ongoing experimentation. It's an ongoing process until you can find the correct way to express your ideas and thoughts. So let's go. Now we will go outside for approximately 30 min. Look at everything that catches your eye, the flowers, the plans, the canal, and makes sure to take a picture of them. Any element can potentially be used in your illustration. Here is an execution I did recently. I took photos of a lot of subjects. Should more subjects than you need, especially the flowers. So you have plenty of choices afterward. Now it's your turn, stop the video and go outside. In the next video, we'll see how to use the material you gathered. 8. Use of the Material You Gathered: Let us see how you can use your photos. I took a lot of photos of flowers, but also shapes, letters, and plants. You can use those photos by simply copying them directly from your phone onto your paper. Another option is to use a sheet of carbon paper. This technique is convenient, especially if you want to copy an element of your photo with the exact same shape, or if you want to transfer a subject several times very quickly. Here, printed a series of different sized flowers. First, I have set my images in a software where I can organize them in many sizes. So I have announced choices when I transfer them onto my illustration. In pages, you can import your photos from an album like this. And if you double-click on the image, you can change the size and crop. It. Makes sure to have them in the right size for the transfer with the carbon paper. Then I create a PDF and I print it for the letters. I will teach you later on how to play with them and create your own words. In my opinion, not relying on the Internet, but rather what you find during your execution is more logical. It forces you to look at what is around you in your local environment. You are required to physically move and use your senses to engage with what is around you. In the next video, we will do the first drawing exercise. 9. Prompt 3 Character Faces: We will now do an exercise with character faces. Adding faces into your illustration will make it a narrative, lively and sometimes add mystery. I like to add phases in my creations. Usually it's quite difficult to take picture of people in their environment. So I would suggest sitting in a coffee shop to draw people faces. You might need the faces you create during this exercise for your final illustration. But if you don't want to use them, that is up to you. Here are some examples of what we will do. Don't forget that this exercise can be shared in the projects and resources section of the website. For this exercise, you will need a pencil or brush, some black ink and two sheets of paper. You can also download my template, the document characters template on the website into the resources and project section. And this will help you to draw your faces, e.g. the eyes should be on the horizontal line of the cross. If you don't want to use this document, you can also draw five ovals with a high of about 5 cm on a sheet of paper. And then draw the cross in the middle of them. So let me show you how I proceed. Firstly, I take my document and my brush. If you don't want to use Chinese, don't follow the black ink. You can use also bottle of liquid ink that is also fine. Then I set my timer for 3 min. So I usually begin with the center of the face, with a nose, and the eyes, the eyebrows, and the mouth. And try to be spontaneous and intuitive. It normally becomes easier after one or two phases. Now it's your turn. Stop the video and start to draw. Are you done with the phases? Let's start again. You will see that your faces, we become more accurate. You don't have to draw exactly inside the oval. This is just to give you an idea for the proportions. But you will, faces can be larger or skinnier. Now, stop the video and set your timer for three more minutes. See you then. Let's start third session. Thinking about the idea of adding accessories, like hats, glasses, or earrings. Your faces can be a little bit crazy, happy, funny, or excited, or have a neutral expression. You can draw the features that you want. Big mouth with small eyes, whatever. Now, draw more ovals if you need. And stop the video, set your timer for three more minutes. And let's draw again a series of phases. Now we will do the last series of faces. And for this exercise, we will use a sheet of tracing paper. It will be easier to transfer the faces after one on your illustration. With this paper. I will show you this after that. But for now, think about your project and the sketch you did previously. What kind of bases would you need for it? E.g. while I was coming up with ideas during the writing exercise, was thinking maybe I could at faces of characters, smiling, exchanging ideas and chatting together. Or what I can do in my case for my battery, is to add two faces smiling instead of the handles. You can also think about the fact that they are interacting with each other. So for the last session, focused on the faces that you need for your project. Now it's your turn. Stop the video and start to draw. You can easily figure out where you want to add your characters on your illustration with a sheet of tracing paper. Take the sheet of paper where you have drawn your characters and move it above your illustration or your sketch to see where it can fit. Maybe I want the girl in the background and this head behind flower here or there. So with the tracing paper you can easily see that pay attention, that the character is eye-catching. It would automatically grab the viewer attention and ask yourself if your character is a main or a secondary element, e.g. on that picture, you can see that the meaning of the picture is completely different with and without the characters e.g. here, it's more like the pottery pop-up from the imagination of the characters. But without the characters, the image is more like just about three. So a face, even in a little corner, can completely change the meaning of the picture. By the way, you can notice that the forehead of the characters much too small because the eyes should be in the middle of the head. In the next video, we'll talk about the topic of abstraction and patterns. 10. Theory Patterns and Textures: Let's briefly talk about patterns and textures. I found a lot of patterns outside on fabrics, panels, and even animals. I like to use patterns repeating the same shape several times helps me to come down. In my case, I want to use a pattern in my drawing on the pottery. In the next video, when we do an exercise about how to draw a pattern on a buttery to find original idea for your illustration. What about gradients? Gradients can be used in the background. And with gradients, it will give an impression of depth and perspective. And on the other hand, if you use a solid color in your background, it will appear flatter. You can also use gradients on flowers or inside the letters to make them a little bit funkier. Then what about abstraction? Abstraction is sometimes more interesting than figuration because you can see several things at the same time. And, uh, things happen by accident and can't be controlled. So let's have a look at those images. On the first picture, you can see a plant, but it's also a dragon. I can see the head here with the tail there. What about the second picture? What can you see inside that texture? I can see e.g. frog here with the hand. There is the Milky Way. What can you see here in that picture? I can see a white man inside of big black man. This is about abstraction, and let's have a look at some elements. You can also use some elements you gathered during your little excursion outside of for your illustration. E.g. if I want that shape, I can copy it on my tracing paper. And as we saw in the previous video, you can easily then transfer it on your illustration with the carbon paper. In the next video, we will see the exercise about the patterns on the pottery. 11. Prompt 4 Patterns On a Pottery: Let's start the exercise with patterns you might need to create in this exercise for the final illustration, your project. You can also share your work in the projects and resources section of the website. There you can also find a document called pottery template. Here it is. And you can use it for this exercise. We will draw patterns inside the shape of the pottery. Or you can also draw about 12 times the shape of a buttery or your main subject, and draw the pattern inside afterward. You will need also for this exercise, a pencil, brush, some black ink, and also the Hiragana alphabets. It's a Japanese alphabets, so we will use it during one of the four sessions. So let's start the exercise with the first session. Let me show you how I proceed. Firstly, I divide my subject in several paths, and then I draw geometrical shapes. Inside the paths. It can be geometrical shapes or whatever comes into your mind. I asked you to time yourself because I want you to engage quickly without thinking too much. So now it's your turn. Stop the video, and let's draw a pattern. Then let's draw another series of pattern. And this time I suggest you use letters. Again, Section your pottery in different parts. The parts don't all have to be the same size. And then draw letters inside those paths. And one letter can take up space in two different parts. E.g. I. Can draw a big L on to pounds. And then I draw smaller letters in one path. And without meaning is also fine. And then if you want, you can feel those letters with a bolder pencil like this. So now it's your turn. Stop the video and set your timer for 3 min. Start to draw inside one or two batteries. So far the third session, we will do beta1 with letters from the Japanese alphabet. So I find those shapes very interesting. So I will take some shapes of it and include it in my pottery. So first, I divide my pottery in several parts again. And then I will e.g. draw this G three times on the top. Then I can draw big war on two parts like this. And then a small b here, e.g. and two on the lower part. That's nice to let some free spaces here and there. So now it's short-term. Set your timer for 3 min and draw pattern with here, I can ask later. So let's start the fourth session and the last one. For this session we will use watercolor pencils. You can use three or four watercolor pencils to preserve harmony inside your battery. So firstly, draw those lines inside your pottery. And then I draw geometric shapes or whatever come to your mind. You can also scribble. If you want. You can also draw some lines. You might need this pattern for your final illustration, the final project. So if you want to spend more time on one of those beta1, do it. You can also add water. When you are finished with all those shapes. Firstly, you can feel some cases with colors. And then when you are done, you can take some water and add it on your colors to make them a little bit brighter. Now it's short term. They will set your timer for 3 min. And in the next video we'll do an exercise about composition of flowers. 12. Prompt 5 Composition of Flowers: I like to use flowers in my art rock. There are thousands of species with different sizes, colors, and shapes. So we can arrange them in many ways to create a stunning composition. That's what we will do in this exercise. For this exercise, you will need two sheets of whitepaper. One pencil, your watercolor pencils, one sheet of carbon paper, and then photos of flowers printed. You can find photos of flowers in the resources and projects section of the Skillshare's website. And you can download and print it if you want, or you can use your own flowers. You can also copy the flowers that you have on your camera, on your phone. That's fine too. Then you are ready for this exercise and I will show you first how I proceed. And don't forget to share your work at the end on the website of Skillshare, please. I will really appreciate it. This is the document, flowers underscore composition dot pdf. Firstly, I will draw a novel at the bottom of my sheet of paper. And that will present the upper part of my pottery. And we will draw the composition inside that space. If you don't have a battery in your illustration, simply imagine the space where the flowers will be placed. Firstly, I will choose three flowers and then press on the outline. And that will transfer the flower on the paper underneath. Then I will repeat that with the two other flowers. So firstly, I decide where I want to have it. And then I put my carbon paper under it. And finally, I press on the outline. And now for the stems, you can use a curve is water, and then draw the stem, the flowers. And that's it. Now, we will add the colors. So firstly, I will draw the one on the left with warm yellow. Then I will add some blue inside that flower. And finally, for the third flower, I will take pink that I don't have in my car up and synset. So this part of the flower is called filament. Now I'm done with the color pencils. And I will add water on the flowers. And now I will add the water on that flower. So I pull that color until the end. Then we will add water on this flower and makes sure that your water is very clean because the yellow get easily dirty. What you can also do is to make the center of the flower very wet. And then you take another color darker and create some dots to create an effect. Now it's your turn. Be creative and feel free to imagine whatever composition you would like. Pay attention also to the space around your composition and in-between the elements. Also the general aspect of the whole composition. Set your timer for about 10:15 minutes. Stop the video. It's your turn. Start to draw. Great. You made the first try. Let's try again with a composition a little bit more original. This time we will add the leaves on the stems where you can find photos of leaves in the document, flowers composition. Be aware also that this exercise can be used for the final illustration that you will do at the end of the class. So again, you will need for this exercise, the document with printed flowers. And I still have some space in between the flowers. So I will add another little flower in the center. It could be like the little princess protected by all the other big flowers. Imagine whatever you want. Now I will take my photos of leaves and I will add them on the stand. And now I will add kind of aura around the flowers. Then I will imagine where I can add my text. So I will draw a diagonal on the left with the first word written here. Hope I've decided to draw my third one word on two diagonals, here and there. So here on the left feet. Hope for the moment. I simply draw the letters by hand. And now I will add the colors. And now I have divided my background in several parts, so it's easier to fill the space. And then we will add the water with a brush. And you can start with the lighter colors so your brush stays clean. And here you can try to create a gradient around the flowers so the dark blue blend into the light blue. Now let's continue with the shadows. You also have to be very precise and it's not forbidden to lead very thin border, white border around some elements a little bit detached from the background. So now we are arriving at the end of this exercise and follow a moment. We will not as an outline with black ink, but we could add it in the final exercise. Grades. Now it's your turn central timer for about 20:30 minutes and draw a nice composition with flowers. 13. Prompt 6 Create Your Own Words: This is the last exercise before the final illustration. In this exercise, we will create words with letters. During the little excursion I did outside, I took photos of words on trucks. I already knew the words I wanted to write. So I took some photos of words that included the letters I wanted to use in my words. So I can use a cool typography to create my own words. Even though you haven't got all the letters you need to create your word, you can easily transform some letters in another one. The text is not essential for your illustration, but you might need it for another project, e.g. if you want to write a Christmas card or create a thank you card. So let's start. So here is how I create my world. Firstly, I need the text printed in different sizes. And then I choose the size that will fit in my illustration. And after what, I will take a sheet of tracing paper and put it on my photo. First, I draw an horizontal line, and then I put the first letter of my world at the beginning of this line. Here, I want to write the word messy in French, and I will put the m at the beginning of the line with the correct orientation. And then I press on the outline, that letter. So here I have an m. And then I put the second letter just after it. You should pay attention to the space in between the letters. And that space is as important as the space inside the letters. So the whole shape should look harmonious. I mean that space. And here we are, we have the world written. One more thing is that if you don't have a letter that you need for your world, you can transform a letter. E.g. if I want to write the word thin, I don't have t. So I will use a knee and create a t from the letter e. Like that. The reason I write my text on a sheet of tracing paper, It's easy to transfer it afterward with a sheet of tracing paper inside my illustration. Then you can also take a pen and outline your letters. Or you can also create a pattern. You can also feel the space around the letters. You can create a volume, whatever you want. You can also create care of and put your letters around it like this. And then you can also create a vertical line and put the letter all along that line. And it's up to you if you want to feel those letters are not e.g. with black ink, I can directly add the ink on my tracing paper. So I can see after awhile how it looks like on my illustration and see where my letters can fit. Then you press on the outline and the letters will be transferred on your illustration. It can happen that letter overlap another element. And it's up to you if you want, that letter appears behind on that element. Here, I will make it appear behind the element. So I will add the black ink all around the element of my drawing. You can also look at the other ideas. Maybe this curve around this flower. I don't know. Imagine what you would like and find a way to express your idea in the best way. Now it's your turn and start to draw. I asked you to imagine three worlds with a topography that you like. Add colors and texture on them or any graphical elements. You can find the document on the Skillshare's website in the projects and resources section, it is called topography dot PDF. And I will be glad also if you share your work there. Then set your timer for about three to 5 min for each world. And I see you in the next video for the final illustration. 14. Final Illustration Part 1: So this is the last project, the final illustration we did until now of exercises about patterns, flower compositions, letters, and character faces. So let's start new version of our sketch with all the knowledge that we absorbed. And D Now, don't hesitate to be a little bit crazy and surrealist because it's funnier. And I will start a new sketch because I want my drawing to be neat and clean. And also because I want to add a new topography I've found. So you can share your project in the projects and resources section of the website. And I will realize this project in three videos because it's a little bit longer. So let's start. Here is my idea. I have the sketch that we did at the beginning of the class and we realize it now with Carlos, and this is the final version. So firstly, I will draw a border around my paper. And then I will add the main lines for the structure. I create a first small part on the right. Then I divide the biggest part on the left in two parts. And then I will create a perspective with diagonals, with a corner. The bottom. Those lines are all parallel. Those lines are for the text. So I create several Raul lines simply because it's easier to fill the background in several parts like this. So for the moment, this is just the sketch. So I will simply add geometrical shapes for the main elements, e.g. this is the pottery and I will transfer it afterward. The carbon paper and the photos. Here are the flowers. So one here, here will be my text. Here is the false flower. And I will create a smaller one in the middle. And there will be also a plant on the right like a pattern on the wall. Here will be some faces of characters, Lao thing, instead of the handles. And then the stems. And inside the pottery, I will draw a pattern, but it represents something. So I would imagine a space ship. We stars around it. The phases are smiling. So that is the main idea and I will add the details later. And I will do the shapes properly after wild with colors and ink. Let me show you now the steps that we can do. Now. This is for the first part. Firstly, I will take a photo of my subject and a sheet of carbon paper for the transfer. I want to transfer my subject in the lower part of my drawing so I can draw the flowers above it. And by the way, this is a sheet of paper that can support water. Little bit thick. You might need to erase a little bit the outline of your sketch so it appears cleaner. Then I put my subject on my sheet of paper, and then I will add the sheet of carbon paper under it. And then I press on the outer shape of the buttery to have it on the paper beneath. Maybe I have to draw again my faces the right place. So now let's do the composition with flowers. So I chose to take five flowers I like and put them above the pottery. So if you have already done our composition you like during the exercise composition of flowers. You can repeat it here on your piece of paper. You can also download the document, flowers composition dot PDF, and print photos that you want to use for your composition. So first I have this flower on the left. Here, I put my carbon paper under and then I press on the outline of my flower. It works. So I repeat that with the other flowers. As I imagine where I will put my letters. Here it is. And now I will draw the stems with my curve, the ruler. Here, I start from the center of the flower and then I go right into the pottery. Now I realized that there isn't so much space folder leaves on the stem. So at least I will add a plant on the right on that part inside that wall. That wall like a pattern. So I want it. Now, I will transfer it and I can repeat it one more time. Like this. I tried to avoid flowers. So I have a pattern on the wall with motif of leaves. Here it is. I still want to add the aura around the flowers. And on the other side, I will add the shadows. Also the shadow of the pottery. And now I will add the text. So let's go ahead with the letters. And if you found already topography that you'd like, then use it. Otherwise you can take the same as mine in the document. Topography dot PDF. Let's have a look where we want to add the word. So I was thinking, maybe cope on that line and freedom on those lines. I will need a sheet of tracing paper. And I will define the area where the letters should take place, also with the border of the sheet of paper like this. And then I draw the baseline of my text on my tracing paper, and then I will add the letters along those lines. So first of all, the world hope I will take this diaper raphe and put the first letter at the beginning of my line. I pay attention that I have enough space for the other letters. And for the 0, I will take that one from another typography. And then I will take this D and transform it into a p.sit. Because I'm on that, the flower. Just founder of our lab. The food of that P. And then fold it will take this small one. And for the world freedom, we start with an S here. The R I use a, b. And then the M. Here are my words, and then I can transfer them. On my drawing. I align my outline with the drawing beneath. And then I put a sheet of carbon paper in between and then I press on the outline. So here it is. And my recommendation is, if a part of the letter will be hidden by another element of your illustration, avoid pressing on that path. Now we are done with the first part. We will then add the canals. So standard video, it's your turn. And here is a summarize the steps we just have done. 15. Final Illustration Part 2: Let's dive right now into the second part of our project. Now you can add the colors inside the flowers. And think about the other colors that will fit her in the drawing, especially those inside the background. Here and there. It might be stronger if you use a series of shades of the same cut-offs, your flowers. So the contrast is stronger with the background. And then I add water inside the flower to create a gradient. So repeat that for the other flowers. And you can mix two colors inside of flour to create gradients. And then with the water, the red will blend into the orange. You can remove a little bit of water from your brush and then go again inside the colors. You can try also to go from the orange until the red. Here I will add a dark red, and here there will be a shadow. Then I come again with the red. And I can overlap the red on the black. Now I will add the water and I will see how the colors will blend into each other. This one will be completely yellow. And then I add water. And while the center is still wet, you can take a darker color, e.g. red, and create a texture. And remember, according how much you press on the paper with your pencil, you can change the intensity of your canal. Then I add water and pay attention to not add too much water at the same time because it can completely remove the pigment on your flower. And think about a Nora around the flowers. Simply a border with a lighter color. And so the flowers will pop up and don't forget the shadows are very important. So for the moment, I mean, simply a little bit of shadow. And I will add the water afterwards. Then we can precise the pattern inside the pottery. In my case, it's spaceship. You can use the pattern you did during the exercise or create complete new ones. Remember that you can divide your pottery into several parts. So it's easier to add symbol inside. You can draw anything you bought for the pattern, including the letters and faces. And notice that you can draw a curve in the middle of the pottery to see how the volume goes. And shapes should follow the curve. To give an impression of perspective. Here I'm drawing the wings, the cockpit. And then I erase the sketch so it won't appear behind the colors. And then I start to add my corrals. And if you have two similar colors next to each other, you can separate them by writing leader border of white between them. And then I will add a little bit of shadow on the left. So it looks like a little bit more like video. And now I will add the water. Now for the faces here and there, I have already chosen to add to happy faces instead of the handles of the pottery. And we can see also if a face we did during the exercise could fit somewhere with a face on the tracing paper. It's even easier. Find your way and remember that characters have a strong wait inside the picture. So pay attention to what they are telling to the viewer. So here they are smiling and loud things. So they expressed the idea of hope. And then I will add a little bit of inside the phases, the cut off the flesh. And maybe I will add a little bit of brown here and there. And then I will add the water. So now I have approximately all the elements I need in my illustration. But I still want to add in letters around the characters. And I will draw some here again up around those faces. Like they are Lao thing. So they are doing. And in Japanese this letter is up. So I will simply transfer rate three times around my character. And then we'd add the ink on them like this. So we just achieve the second part of our project. And it shouldn't take more than ten, 15 min. And I see you in the next video where we will do the third and last part. 16. Final Illustration Part 3: So let's start the last part of our project. We will first fill the background with colors and also complete the stems, the leaves. Then we will add an outline everywhere with black ink, colors inside the letters. And finally, add a little bit of white gouache on the parts where the most light. And now that we have approximately drawn all the elements, figure out how you would like your background to look like and whether it be a solid color or is there a texture? And where are the areas with shadows and light? So this might be challenging, especially after you have drawn the elements because you must feed every little spaces in a harmonious way. So let's break down how we can achieve that. So my background is divided in several parts, and I would like to draw squares of two different colors in each part. So I will use blue and then lighter blue, whatever you want. And then we will add water. And when I have a character or something or close to the squares, I will simply draw the squares around that character. And then I will add a little bit more shadow behind the pottery. And it doesn't matter if the black overlaps the squares. Because then we will add water and create a gradient between the squares and the shadow. And then I continue with the next part with my blue. And I will choose another color. And I will try another blue. E.g. this one. And I will fill the space behind my letters of the alphabet so the contrast is less strong. Then I continue with the third part of my background. And I continue to use these blue and another one, e.g. this blue, it's called ultramarine blue. And for the most part, on the top, I will just use one blue and let the other squares of the color of the paper. So this part is really like a meditative exercise. And my background also have prospective. So it looks like three walls. And this one is in the shadow because the light comes from the right. So I will draw the squares inside the dark part, darker. And I will use a dark blue and black for this side. And now I will add colors on the third side of the wall. And I wave the wave as light as possible. I really would those light blue, the light blue and light ultramarine blue, avoiding all the plants and the leaf. Now I'm done with the little squares. And I will let a clue space here, whitespace for the venture. And now I will add color inside the leaf. So you can use one or two green for the leaves. And also add the colors inside the stems. And now for the letters, I will create a gradient with pink and orange. And then we will add water inside the background. But I think with a handkerchief could be better. Then you can also use a brush. And blend down with the handkerchief. I can also try to wrap my pencil with the handkerchief and put water on it and then placed on my paper. So I continue with this technique, kept me away in the background, around the flowers on the shadows. And then I will add water inside my letters. I still have to add this ground with a gray. And now I take my black ink, a very thin brush, and I will outline the elements. With this thin outline. I will start with bases. So you can rest your own the table to have a grid stability. Then relax your hand and press softly on the lines of your character. And folder here, what you can do is to take a bigger brush and simply press on the hair. Make a nice shape. And then you can add few lines under heat, e.g. and then you can go on the other element, e.g. the pottery. You don't necessarily need to add an outline everywhere. Feel free to let your element. But try to keep your line as regular as possible. Because it will make your drawing more defined, more precise. I suggested before the flowers, especially where there is light color. Keep a very thin outline, will don't press too much. And you will see with practice, it becomes easier. And the quality of your brush for this is really important. Then add your outline everywhere you feel like the flowers or the plants and the letters. You should be pleased with yourself. I'm sure you will produce a mind-blowing illustration. The more you practice, the better the end product. I really wanted to add some writings in my background. So I wrote some sentences more or less related to the idea of hope and freedom. So I will add some sentences inside my background. I use the back of my pen and to have a thinner writing. And then I write a sentence, e.g. here, it's about having to accept the game. And I can also write the sentence. I think I can turn credit thoughts into healthy thoughts. It doesn't have to be really readable. It's more like a pattern or texture. I will continue until I feel that shape of my background and then see how it looks like. So that's it for the writings. And now with a little bit of gouache, I can try to add a little bit of white where I want to eliminate my drawing. You can also correct some little imperfections. Well, there are some spots, e.g. and that's it. So we arrived at the end of the third part. This part was a little bit longer. I took about 1 h doing things very carefully. So try your best and be pleased with yourself. It doesn't have to be perfect. And I will really appreciate if you share your work in the projects and resources section of the Skillshare website. I see you in the next video where we will say goodbye. 17. Conclusion: Congratulations, You made the project. In conclusion, you should be able now to create an illustration that comes from your imagination. You should have the capacity to build an image according your idea and theoretical material. We saw, we've practiced through values, exercises, techniques needed for our image. And we came up with new ideas through the exercises of the pattern on a butchery, the flower composition, and the texts with a nice topography and the character faces. I hope you could dive into those exercises. Project. Now please share them in the projects and resources section of the website. And I will be glad to answer your questions. We can also discuss about any topic related to art. I really appreciate it to make that class for you. And I see you in another one. Continue to create and express your ideas. It makes the world more beautiful. Bye bye.
