So enroll in the course, and let's make a designer out of view. 2. Introduction: Hello and welcome to the Canada for Everybody course. My name is David and let me just quickly thank you for taking it. I mean, I know that there's a lot of classes out there, so thanks for being here with me. And also let me explain how you can benefit from this course. So first of all, this training is for you if you want to quickly create professional-looking graphics without any special technical knowledge, but also without any artistic or design skills. Let me explain how that's possible. So I've divided this course into two main parts. So the first one is about learning Canada in the most practical way possible. And the next one is about getting to know the basics of graphic design. So we will start with the basics of using Canva, like creating designs from templates and from scratch. And of course, along the way, we will add images, elements, backgrounds, tax, and pages. Then we will move on to creating practical projects like business cards, social media post, newsletters, brochures, etc. Now I plan to make this course like an ongoing course. So new projects will be added to this course regularly. And of course, if you would like me to create something specific, maybe because something there's something that you are struggling with. Just, you know, drop me a message and we will create that specific project just for you. So that all is the first part. And after that, we will talk about graphic design theory like spacing, colors, funds, etc. So if you don't know anything about graphic design theory and you'd think that you cannot design anything that's going to look at least decent. Well, let me tell you it is possible and you will see how it is possible in the second part of this class. So all in all, Canva for everybody means that if you have some basic computer skills and you want to create a neat and professional looking like Logos, social media posts, business cards, etc. You can easily do that in Canva. So grab a cup of coffee in one hand, your mouse in the other. And let's start. 3. First Steps in Canva: Hello, Canada is a primarily a web-based piece of software. So when you go to the canva.com website, this is basically what you are going to see. And if you want to just check out this website, if you want to see what you can do with the vowel, you can definitely do that. But we want to start designing as quickly as possible and we want to learn Canada as quickly as possible. So if you don't have an account yet, you can simply sign up right here. So you can click on this purple button or you can click on this purple button here in the top. So if you do that, you're going to see this, well, this modal, this pop-up box that is going to ask you to login or sign up using your Google account, your Facebook account, or your email. But if you want to use some other account that you have some other way, you can click on the Continue another way. And in here it, you know, if you have like an Apple account, you can use it to continue to Canada to basically sign up using your Apple account. You can do the same with Microsoft account. So for instance, if you maybe have like a, like an email in there like outlook.com domain, you can use that right here. You can use a clever, you can use even login with the mobile. Or again, you can just use your e-mail address. However, if you already do have an account here on Canva, you can simply login and I'm going to choose continue with mail. And I'm simply going to use my credentials here. And there we go, we are logged in. Now, if you don't want to go to the Canvas website and login every time. You could simply just download their app. And once you are logged in, you will not find like a direct link to it. We could, for instance, go to Google and just type in like Canva desktop app and try to search for it. So I'm just going to click on it. And you can start just the download right here. And we can just save the file and simply use the app, just like you use any other app that you have, like a Word Excel or some design APA if you have that installed on your system. So this is another way of doing it. And if you are not logged in, if we just go to them to the Incognito Mode, I'm going to go to canva.com, so we will not be logged in. We can go to okay, so let's say that I want to accept all the cookies. And I'm going to go all the way down here. And you're going to see this bit right here that says we've got a desktop app. So if we click on it, we're going to see the same, basically the same page as we did before one when we googled simply forward. So here we can simply click Start Download, and we are going to be downloading the same and the same app. Once the app is downloaded, I'm going to double-click on it. And the the installation process will start. So when we do that, you're going to, you're going to see this pop-up saying that we need to login to our account. And yes, we do want to allow camera to open this link. Since I was logged in, this whole process went smoothly, I didn't have to like login again. And as you can see, it looks basically the same as the web version of Canva. So no matter which version you choose, whether it's the the web-based version or whether it's the desktop app, you're gonna get the same functionalities. However, I do have to mention that if you are working on your work computer, you might not have all the admin privileges. So you might not be able to install an app then the Canvas app on your system. And if you really do want to use it, I would suggest to just know, ask someone who has the admin privileges, maybe like the IT guy or someone like that to install an app for you, or probably you won't get the admin privileges. But if you know, if you're working on your work laptop, you might not have those privileges and it might not be possible for you to install that app, but of course, it will be possible to login online and to use Canada online, which is, I think we are going to be using here throughout this class. Because I think it's just maybe a bit simpler for you to follow. Once you get your account set up, once you are logged in, we can actually start learning how to use Canva to create our designs. But I think that we are going to do that in the next video. 4. Understand the User Interface: So once you're logged in, you are probably wondering how you can create something here inside Canada. And basically there are two ways in which you can create your own designs. The first one is by using templates. And the second one is simply by creating something completely from scratch. So basically, what is a template? Well, template is like a predefined project that you can use in order to speed up the process of creating your design. Usually a template like that would come with a predefined document size. Maybe he's going to have some assets already there, colors, fonts, all those things simply to make the process of designing that specific project a bit easier for you. So once we're logged in, I think it's a good thing to first, before we design anything, get ourselves familiar with that actually the UI of Canva, and as you can see, it's basically divided into three main sections. So on the top, we got our main manual right here. So we got the design spotlight, which basically some shortcuts that might be a bit more like business oriented. Then we've got the education, which basically is some resources for that sector. If you want to, like buy a pro version of Canva, you can do it from here. And of course we also have like a, like a knowledge-base, like a learning center right here. This menu on the left is, well, it's shown by default, but you can hide it if you want to by clicking on this Hide menu icon right here. And here, you got basically you're like your team account and you get some very, very helpful, basically shortcuts to various functionalities. So the first one, of course, is the Home button. Basically going to get, you're going to show you this home manual. Well, this whole section right here. Then we've got the templates and we will talk about the templates in a, I think in the next video, we're going to talk about that. So if you click on the Templates tab, you're going to see this whole UI change. This main, main screen right here is going to change and it's gonna give you all the templates that basically you can never imagine. I'm gonna go back. Can we get the projects? So if we already know we're working on something before, we are going to see it right here. And of course, as you can see, whenever we click on something here, this whole space changes. Then we've got the teams. So this is now in Canada, you're gotta have a team. If you like, not have a team. So this is my first theme. Then we got some paid, some paid assets. So we've got the brand. So here you can basically create like a brand kits, which basically is like a, like a whole set of like visual identification of the company. So like, you know, not just like logos, business cards or stationary, but also a lot of guidelines that should now create the whole visual identity like the font that you're using, the colors, and how to use the logo, how not to use the logo, all those things. So he got them. All right here. We've got a content planner which basically something like a calendar and all that you can share with your team if you want to create a design with other members of your team, you can schedule it right here. Now we got something like discover apps. So if you want to use some apps from the Canada team, you can find them right here. And we got like smart mockups. Mockups are basically like usually they are photos, but sometimes they can be illustrations that basically allow you to make your design come to life, so to speak. So for instance, if you have like an app design and you can show it to your client simply by putting like the first screen, for instance, or, or other screens on a smartphone That's inane, like in a context, so to speak. But as you can see, all those elements are basically in the Pro plan. So if you want to use the mockups right here, well, you would have to get the mock-up. I guess only this one is, doesn't have this like a crown icon here in the bottom right. So I guess this one is the only paid paid mockup. We also got the tab that allows us to invite some members. So if you want to, again, cooperate with some people from your team, I'm on a specific project. You can simply invite those people and you can enter and let their email addresses send them invitations. So for instance, if I would want to ask like, I don't know, like an average Joe. Let's say that he has like a very hotmail.com. I could simply add that that email address here and simply send, send the invitations. And average, Joe is probably going to get this evening. I hope this image does not exist, but if it does, we'll see and we also have trashed. So in here we're going to see the projects that we delete it. We don't want them anymore. And if we do have them, they're gonna be presented right here. So I'm gonna go back to the home space. So as you can see, everything is laid out in a pretty understandable way, I think. So now that we know all those things, we know basically how this UI functions here inside Canada. I think we can move on to the templates and basically will understand how templates work and how to use them for your own designs. 5. Using Templates: So once we move on to the Templates tab, this is basically what your UI is going to look like. So on the left we got basically like categories for our templates. So we got business, social media, video marketing, custom prints, cards, invitations, and education. And of course, if we twirl it open, you are going, we are going to see some like sub categories. Here in the top we got tags that lets you like further, I like narrow down your basically your search. But of course, if you don't want to use any of these categories or tags, you can simply search for a template. So let's say that I am going to search. You can see we've got some suggestions right here, but I want to do something custom. So let's say that I want to do like a restaurant, maybe. What's the menu? I wanted to go with a business card, but let's do, let's do a menu. So I'm going to click on that. And as you can see, we are gonna get a lot of different pre-defined templates just for, just for a restaurant, a restaurant menu. So when we hover over these guys, you can see that some of these guys have those like a paid or not tag next to them. This one and this one. Some of them are simply going to be paid or they're gonna be available in a Pro Plan, which is basically like a subscription. But we can narrow down, down our search. So I'm gonna go down here and we can simply click on the Free checkmark right here in this price category. And we should see only the ones that are basically available for free. But I think it doesn't always work like that. As you can see, we still got paid. So I think it only just filters out the designs that are within the Pro plan. And we got paid here, we got some free ones as well. It is what it is, but we can narrow down our search even further. For instance, by choosing something like a, like a mini-mental minimalist style or a modern style. And as you can see right here on the right, you got the number of basically projects that are available within that style. So let's say that I want to do something minimalist. I'm going to click on that. And only the projects that have, well that are within that category are going to be shown. So let's say that my, let's say that my Ras around is going to be serving like Italian food. So I don't think I'm going to use a pink theme for that. I think I'm just going to use maybe like a business. So right now I can see only the projects that are minimalist, that are like business-oriented and that are free, that are like more dark than they are light. And I got this Italian menu right here and it's free. And let's say that I like it and I would like to use it. So we could either simply click on it to open it up. Or before that, we could simply choose this star right here and simply like add it to our favorites. And also, if we just click on these three little dots, we are going to see like a, like a pop-up menu in which we are going to get the title of the project. We can customize this template so we can basically use it and edit it in a way that we would like. We can also previewed this template. So if we are not sure if you want to use it, we can simply preview it. So I'm going to click on that. And as you can see, we got our, our menu being presented like in it's all whole form. And also down here, we got some more suggestions that go well together with our search, search criteria that are similar to what we've already chosen. So let's say that I like this one. I'm just going to choose, I'm going to click customize this template. As you can see that that project is going to open up in a new tab. But if we want, since we installed the Canvas app, we could either simply open this project in the Canada app, or we can stay here in our browser, browser. So for now, I'm just going to click No thanks. I want to stay within my web browser and we can simply take a quick look at how to customize a template here inside Canvas. But let's actually do that in the next video. 6. Customizing Text Inside a Template: So we've got our project opened up. We know that we want to create like a menu for a, for an Italian restaurant. But this is our first time using cathexis is our first time customizing a template. So we need to learn how to basically customize a template. The first thing that I would like you to notice is that, is that whenever you hover over any element within your design, you're going to see those like violet, this file at bounding box, which means that if we now click on this element, it's going to get too active. So now it is kinda like highlighted when you just hover over an element, but when you click on it, it gets selected, and right now it is ready to be edited. And so you can click on this image, we can click on the tax, but we also can click on the background. So the second thing that I would like you to notice is that whenever we click on an element, this context menu here at the top changes. And what's the most important thing here is that this context menu is going to only give you options that pertain in a specific way to an element that you chose. So you're not going to get the same options when you click on the piece of text as you're going to get when you click on an image. Also, you can see that with this guy, well, any guy selected, we're going to get this small like a context menu, which gives you like a super, super quick access to the most useful, I guess, like technical things that you can do with a selected elements so you can duplicate it. So when we click on it, we're going to basically copy and paste it. I'm going to press Control Z on my keyboard to go back. And we also can remove it. So if we click on this crash icon symbol, we're going to, we're going to delete it again, control Z. And we also have these three little dots. Now when we click on these guys, you can see that we have this like a full context menu that have, that has like different, different elements of different options. So copy, paste, delete, then we got sent backward, which means that basically we're going to move this element like to the back, like one step. Those who can send it all the way to the back. So it's going to mean that it's like all the way at the bottom of the stack. We also have a bringing forward option that is now grayed out because this guy is like on the top. And we got Bring to Front. So bring forward is going to mean that this guy is going to go up one step in the stack and bring to front. If we click on that, that's going to mean that this element is going to go all the way to the top of the stack. We also have the animate option, but we're going to talk about it later. We can comment on this guy. So if we're working within a team, you can simply add a comment. So let's say I'll love it. Don't change it. Please know something like that. I'm going to comment I'm going to comment on this guy. And so other members of the team are going to see that, you know, you shouldn't change it. But of course, in a typical scenario you would, you would write something, something a bit more meaningful, something that you're basically, or your team members would understand that something that would be more important for the project, you know. But yeah, you can do it. But I think I'm going to try to delete it. I'm going to lead the thread. This is just the thing to remember. You know, when you hover over an element here inside your project, you're going to highlight it. If you click on it, we're going to activate it and the context menu changes whenever you click a different element. So far so good, but how to actually change something within your design. So let's say that in this menu I would like to change this pizza right here. I don't want it to be margarita. I want it to be I want it to be Hawaii. I love. I'm going to create a bit of a scandal here, but I do like it, and it's my project and it's going to stay here. So basically the only thing that we have to do here is still well in terms of changing attacks as double-click inside an element and simply change the text. So if I would like to go back to margarita, I would simply type that in and I could simply off click somewhere here. And that's going to stay, stay like that. That change is going to be saved with this black piece of text selected here in the context menu, we can change the fonts, font style. But I would always advise you to when you change it to like, when you change like one instance of text, if you change its font, font style or basically the font or typeface, you should do it for other similar or exactly the same instance. So in this case, if I wanted to change danger to our Montserrat Classic. I would have to do it also for the other ones. So just keep all these things consistent. So basically what I want you to understand is that here in the context menu, if you're working with text, you can change the font type. Here now, the font-face. You can change the size right here using either the minus or plus symbols or simply, you can double-click inside. And you're gonna be able to choose a specific font size that's presented to you right here. So I'm gonna go with 16 if I want to go with 16, but that's way too much. Or we can simply type something in. I think it was 13.7. So if we double-click inside, we're going to highlight this element and we can simply type in what we want. And I'm going to press Enter to go back to the previous font size. So we can also change the text color right here. So if we do that, if we click on this guy right here, we are going to open up this little like these color palettes that we can basically use and to change the color of our text. So let's say that I want to choose this light gray. I'm simply going to click on it and that color is going to change. Or I could simply choose a different color like this one. And what's cool about Canva is that it picks up automatically the colors, the images that you have within your document, simply to keep your color palette consistent. And I think it's a super, super, super thin. So as you can see here, we got the colors of our background, which basically is like shade of super, super dark black. And we also have like our pizza colors. And also if you want to keep your color palette or your whole project, like color wise consistent, it's a good idea to sometimes, well, almost always use the colors from your photos that you have in your projects. So I'm gonna go back to white. So of course, if you don't want to use any of these colors, if you want to add a custom color, you can simply just choose this plus symbol right here. And you're gonna get this big group that is good old, good old custom color box that you can simply use to add any color that you want. Now what's also interesting here is that within your document, you're probably, if you're using templates like the colors will be, will be consistent throughout the design. So if one piece of text, like in this case, is like white because it's against a dark background. But you want to change it and you don't want to know, change it like text by texts. So select it and then add the same color. It's, it's a good idea to use this change all options, which basically is going to change all the instances with this color to the color that you now select it. But if you want to change only like these elements, this might not be the best option because if we just click on it, you can see that it's changing all the peace of pieces of texts with that assigned color. So I'm going to go back to my color using the same functionality. So right now I'm going to select this white color. And here at the bottom you can see that we can change this instance that this color to our newly selected colors I'm going to click on Change all. Of course, we can also make our text bold. You can make it italic. We can change the alignment of our text as well. Basically, these options are just like taken from any like word processing piece of software. And we can also create a list if we want to. We can also change the spacing. I don't want to just like how public that will also change the spacing. And there are basically two types of spacing so we can increase the space between the letters like that. So it's more of an artistic, artistic effect. Or we can have like a paragraph, paragraph text. We can increase the size of that space between the lines within that paragraph. Now this anchor text box is simply going to tell us from which point within that selected piece of texts, all our transformations are going to take place. So they can take place starting from the top, from the center or from the bottom. Now we also have effects. So if you want to use something like shadow glowing things, you can, I wouldn't advise against that unless you're going for something extremely specific. But in our case, since we are using a, well, since we are creating like a classic menu, I would avoid neons or gloves altogether. Now again, with the animator, we are going to take a look at the animations when we are going to be creating presentations here inside the Canada. So let's skip it for now. So I think we've got the text cover two pretty extensively. I think that we can now move on to editing images within your templates, but you don't, but let's actually do that in the next video. 7. Customizing Images Inside a Template: So now that we know how to customize text inside your design, It's now time to learn how to customize images within a predefined template. So as we already know, if we hover over an image within our design, we are going to highlight it and when we click on it, we are going to select it. So now we can perform some actions on this, on the selected image. So we could edited soil. If we click on it, we are going to be able to adjust the brightness, contrast or saturations using these sliders. If you want to make your image brighter, we can simply make it brighter if you want to do that, but this is highly overexposed. Or we can make it darker if we want to. And if we don't do, you can simply just enter the initial value which is zero in this case. We can also change the contrast. So we're going to make it, we're going to make the image a bit more saturated. If we want to make the pizza look like there's even more, cheese and vegetables are even more fresh if you want to do that. But still, we are. Now remember that we are making a classy, classic Italian restaurant. Magnusson, let's not go overboard with it. We want a desaturated, we're going to bring the contrast down. But of course, if that's not enough for you, you can also just play around with saturation that are basically going to get a simple, at least in this case effect. But if you want to play just with the saturation, That's probably a bit more accurate in terms of like making the colors pop or making them a bit more dull than the contrast option. So I'm gonna go back to zero. We also have like filters like this, epic filter, festive summer and all that. So actually, let's see all. So if we want to add an effect, so let's say that I want to do something like, let's do summer. It's going to basically adjust some values that are assigned to that, to that image. And the values that I'm talking about, of course, are those saturation contrast and maybe white balance, hue shift aspects of a photo. So I'm gonna go back to non either one. I don't want any filter to be applied. Now, we also have Smartmockups here. So let's see all, let's do. Let's actually see what we're going to get. We're going to click this greeting card. As you can see, that image is going to be placed onto our business card. I don t think that this is something that we would typically go for. So I'm gonna go back and we also have a bit of like ultimate adjustments here. So we have like auto enhance, autofocus, auto phase retouch, but they are still in beta, so they are not like 100 per cent working yet. So we got to like shadows, frames, duo tones. If you want to create something a bit more like trendy or something like that. So I don't know, let's do cherry maybe if you want to have like a cherry pizza or something like that, not even sure what it is. But if you want to apply a filter like that, you can do it here as well. In this Edit Image option, we can also crop our image. So if we go to the Crop option, we are going to see these elements right here. I mean these handles around our bounding box. So if we just click and drag, we are going to basically count this image to this bounding box if we just try to cut it to our background and I'm just going to like off click. You can see that right now our image is nicely cropped. It's not going out of bounds right here. I mean, we still couldn't couldn't see our image. We couldn't see it going out of the bounding box if it was not selected. But right now, even if it's not, I mean, if it's, if even if it is selected, we still, we can't see it going out of bounds. Notice though that this change is somewhat permanent. I mean, if you now want to just click on this handle and see that, oh, lost part of the image. You cannot that, that pizza is gone, that pizza slices is actually gone. So that's just something to remember. Now we can also flip our image so we can flip it horizontally, or we could flip it vertically if we want to. But I'm not going to do that right now. Then also, don't forget that if you right-click on your image, you're gonna get this context menu. Basically looks the same as the context menu with your text. But you can also choose one of these two options that you can see here in the bottom. If you want to replace the background with the, with the selected image, you can simply click on Replace background. And that image is going to be applied to the whole background. But I don't want to do that. But you could also click on the Apply Colors to page option. And the text is going to basically get automatically changed using the colors that can be extracted from the image. And I think that Canva is doing a pretty good job here. We only have like nice. Kind of like a yellow tones, maybe a red tones. We're not seeing the green tones from this. I don't know what that even is. Some plant, this pizza that might be a bit too dark against this dark background, but I don't want to do that. I'm gonna go back, but this is something that you can do here. We also have a, an image here in our background. So if we don't want to see it, of course we can remove it altogether, but that's gonna be a bit difficult to see. I mean, maybe if we now simply like chose our, this, well, this pizza and do apply colors to page. Now. Now maybe it looks a bit better, I'm instilled the contrast is not that great here, but if you want to quickly just like send to your client two different versions like light or dark. You can simply do that basically in like two or three clicks here inside Canada. But let me just revert back to our previous state. So I think that we covered the basics of editing a project from a template here inside Canada. Of course, you can do a lot more and we are going to look at it like in a subsequent video. But for now I just wanted you to understand how quickly you can create something inside Canvas using a template. So all you basically need to do is to find the right template using preferably, Preferably the search option here inside, like your main manual, black main home screen right here. Then simply use it, customize that template. And you can customize it by editing the images, editing changing the text. Once you are done, you can simply click on the Share button right here. And you can either share it with someone or you can simply download it. But we are going to take a look at these, all these elements now about this whole sharing functionality in another video. Right now, I would like us to dig down, dig deeper into creating our own, our own basically projects. But I want to do them from scratch. Maybe. First let's actually duplicate, maybe like this design. Let's, let's mimic this design. And then let's actually do something completely, completely from scratch, because I really want you to understand how easy it is to create something from scratch here inside, inside canva, how to use the tools that are here inside Canva to create your own designs, create your own projects in a matter of seconds. Let's actually in the next video, maybe start creating our own menu. Maybe it will be Italian. We'll see about this design is going to be our base for our menu design. And that's gonna be like an intermediary step between creating something from a template and creating something completely from scratch. 8. Reusing Tempates to Create Designs: So as I said before, there is one like an intermediary step that I think would be a good idea to take in order for us to better understand how to create designs here inside Canada. And I'm talking about reusing a template or like grip, editing it to create our design. So let me show you what I mean by that. We got our italian menu design right here. And I've really quickly created like a spin-off of that design. It's not like the best designs, the best design in the world. But let's say that you would like to present your customer would like maybe to like different but somewhat similar designs. I'm not sure he puts making too much sense, but definitely what is going to make a lot of sentence is showing you or you learning how to create, how to reuse templates to create variations of the original design. So this is what I have right here. As you can see, basically what I did is I added some images on the left, I added a logo, and I've added some like menu entries, change the fonts and also change this address here at the bottom just a bit. So let me show you how I did all that. So first of all, what you can do if you want to reuse a template or a designer, you can simply grab this while this option and simply click on the duplicate page options. So we got this menu, duplicate it down here, and we can simply start creating something like this. So let's start from the left end. Let's add our images. I'm going to maybe get rid of these elements. We're going to select these guys and I'm going to put them somewhere here on the side. So here on the left we got our search box. And in here you can search for basically any like graphic design elements that you would want to use. Select photos like icons, backgrounds, frames. Now, all those things. So what I wanna do is I want to add like an image of well of pasta dishes because I decided to do something like polos past, as you can see right here. So this is what I'm gonna do. I'm going to search for pasta photo. And first I'm going to get like all, all graphic assets with that tag. But I just want to see photos and write down as you can see, we get some free images and the nicer ones are paid forever. If you just want to preview a paid asset or a pro asset, would just click on it. You can see that we can actually edit the two-hour design, but we were gonna get those watermarks and this remove watermarks. The button that simply is going to allow us to remove the watermarks by pain, the pro subscription. So if you want to preview it, if want to add it, you can still probably going to try to get some something, know something a bit more like something for free. Let's put it simply. So also what we could do if you would want to refine our search, we could use this guy right here. When we click on it, we'll be able to basically filter our search results so you can do it by color, orientation, animation, or cut out. But I think that all I really need is like a vertical photo. So I'm gonna go vertical and I'm going to apply the filter. Now, you can simply search for a, this one looks kinda nice. I've already followed, That's pretty cool and it's going to work nicely with our, with our menu. So I'm going to grab this one and I think I'm going to make it smaller just for now because ultimately I'm going to have another photo down here, but this guy is supposed to be bigger. But of course, if we make it just a bit bigger, so it looks, let's say, more or less like this or maybe even just a bit bigger. Well, you can see that it retains the proportions. So what we could basically do is we could crop it, right? So we could simply just grab this line right here and maybe put it to somewhere here. But the problem that we have here is that, well basically the focus point is like not in the center. So what we could do is we could simply crop this element by double-clicking inside. And as you can see, we got this like an isolated crop and mode. Right now we can simply move this guy to somewhere here. And now we can see that the left part and the right part going to get cropped. And we only got this pasta in a fork, like in the central spot, like, let's say on the center stage. I'm just going to unclick and we got this guy nicely, nicely cropped. Basically. Another image that I want is an image of wine. But this time I think I'm gonna go with a simple horizontal one. But I want to choose, I'm going to search for wine. Let's say, let's go with this one, or maybe let's try to find something. All let's go with this one. This one is funky like this. So I'm going to put it somewhere here. And definitely we got to make it smaller. It looks something like this. I think it is. Okay. Let's not split hairs here. It's more about learning how to know. Recreate this design down here. Now what I wanna do is I want to add a logo, right? So normally, if you design things yourself, you would have a logo or maybe the client would give the logo to you. But as you can see here, we got a logo like if for every simple logo. But we don't we don't have a logo of our own, but we didn't design anything. Well, basically this is an icon. So we could simply try to find something like a restaurant logo. I'm going to clear the filters. And I don't want to find the restaurant's logo. And I'm going to go up maybe with graphics this time. So this is the one that I've chosen before. You can see it down here, and I'm simply going to click on this, but as you can see, it comes in as black. That's the default version, and we can barely see it. So I'm gonna go to this Edit Image option and I'm simply going to add the white color to it. And as you can see, it gets added to our, to our design. So I'm gonna get rid of this guy. And before I chose this Laura font and you know what, maybe, maybe let's keep things consistent because right here I use the Open Sans font. So maybe I'm just going to quickly use the same font just to keep things simple. So let's do Open Sans like that. And let's make it just a bit bigger. Let's see 16. And let's type in what we need. So it's going to be all lows pasta. And I'm going to expand this field. And I'm gonna try to move it to the side. Maybe let's do a logo that's going to look something like this. Maybe let's make it just a bit smaller. Just so it's not like in our face like that. Again, we don't have to split hairs here. And I'm gonna get rid of this text. I don't need it. Now, these guys know the only thing that we need to do here is to just know change the text and change the font. So since our logo is set in a sans serif font, Open Sans, I think I'm gonna just go with a basic Open Sans font for this. And I don't know if you noticed. Let me just maybe go with this guy and I'm going to go to again to the Open Sans font. And you can see we have the same option as we did with the colors. So instead of just clicking on each and every instance of that Laura font, we can simply click, Change, all end, change all the instances of texts with this font to the newly selected font. I'm just kinda click on Change all, and everything is going to look, look nicely. Now I'm going to change this text from pizzas to pasta because we've got pastors here. And I'm not really an expert of past us. I think there's pasta carbonara, I think. Let's do something like is there like a bus stop? Pepperoni. I really sure. I'm sorry. I just I just I just don't know. My pasta. And this guy, I don't know, let's just leave it as spicy. Why not all it's doing something like spicy basil. That could be interesting, spacey basil. I'm, the prices are going to stay like this, but I'm not sure if they are nicely aligned. Let me just know sometimes these templates might not be like, you know, not everything might work as it's supposed to. So I'm just going to grab these elements and make them smaller. And what I wanna do right now is I want to align all of these elements. And the easiest way to do that would be to first select all of these elements. So you can either just know, create, likely marquee around. All of these elements are simply shift. Click on these guys, these three elements here in top right, we've got this position option. If we click on it, we'll be able to align all our elements. And in my case, I want to align them to the right side like that. And now all of these elements, as you can see, are nicely, nicely aligned. But I'm also not sure if these guys are nicely aligned. So I'm going to select these elements position, and maybe I'm going to align them to the top. Same is going to go for these guys. Align them to the top. Sign is going to go for these guys and align them to the top. So now let's maybe do something like maybe specialties. And our specialties can be like lasagna, my bliss do like shrimp, Something like that. Pen the San Remo, I guess this is a, this is a pasta. I think it's just going to grab all of these elements and put them somewhere here. And now let's just make sure that also these guys are nicely aligned to the left. So I'm going to shift click on these guys and align them to the left like that. And here I just want to have wines like that. And let's just do like white wine. Let's do red. Let's do. Now let us select type in Tuscany. And maybe let's type in, I don't know, Calabria, like that. Again, all we need right now is to just make sure that everything is nicely aligned to the left. So I'm just going to align them. I think they are. So okay. We're good right here. Let me just zoom out. Maybe I'm going to bring these guys just a bit down to somewhere here. Same goes for the logo somewhere here. And maybe let's remove just one entry right here. With these elements. I think I'm just going to spread this guy out and simply remove the the entrance basically. So I just want to have this address in one line and I want to make sure that it's nicely centered like that. And I'm going to put it down here. And basically, this is how we can very, very quickly reuse a, a template. And this can be a great starting point for your own designs. Not just menus, but like business cards, brochures, all the things that you want to, you want to design. And in Canada, it's really, really super, super quick. Now, I think that may be, I should also align these elements to the right, like these prices. Without that, this guy is a bit too big. But now as I said, you can see that with Canada you can create these designs are very, very quickly. You can reuse the templates to create your own variations. And I just can't really think of a, of an easier way to create your own design if you really are not good at designing, at understanding the position in understanding the colors, I really can't think of an easier way to create your design if you are in a rush or if you don't know anything about really no design or like positioning, colors, fonts, and all those things. You can simply reuse an L, a template. Don't just change the, change the photos. Like a racetrack, maybe the tax, maybe move it around a bit. And basically you can create something like this. It's not like the most engaging design in the world, but the purpose of this exercise is for you to understand how to reuse a template, a template. And it took us like, I don't know, maybe 10 min, I'm not really sure. But there you go. We got our design ready. But of course, the purpose of this course is to learn how to create different designs from scratch. So we are going to start doing that next. 9. Create an Instagram Post Form a Template: Let's start our design part of the course. And I thought that we might take the following approach. First, we are going to create a specific design from a template. And then we're going to create a design completely from scratch, but following the same design ideas. Let's maybe start with one of the most popular designers in Canada, or design projects in Canada, which is an Instagram post. So here inside my Canva account, I'm going to go to the Create Design button. Well, I'm going to click on it. And as you can see, one of the most suggested designers is this Instagram post square template. So I'm going to click on it. So all we get is a blank canvas basically. So we could do everything from scratch if you wanted to. But for starters, I just want to create like reuse a template, just like we did before. But this time I don't wanna do nothing like a food menu or something like that. For Instagram, Let's create them. Let's maybe do something with cosmetics. Maybe I'm just going to search for cosmetics and we're gonna get a lot of different templates right here. If you are doing this, for instance, for work or for your personal purposes, like an Instagram post. To design. The same rule applies actually for all like thumbnails or something like, for instance, for YouTube thumbnails, the ones that are the more, the most clickable are the ones where there is a face, a human face actually. So I'm going to search for something that's indeed a bit more clickable. And I like this one right here. I think it looks really, really nice. So I'm just going to use this one. So I'm going to click on it. And when we take a look at it, what I think the most characteristic here is that these images like this one, this guy right here, and this one right here, or these ones actually, this is a series of photos. They are all added together. They have no background. And that's, that's pretty important in order to achieve this effect. Now what we might do with this one right here is to maybe like blurred this photo, but just a bit. Because right now we have this one in-focus, this element in focus, the background is in focus. So maybe we could try to blur this background image just a bit. So with this image selected, this guy right here, I'm gonna go to Edit image. So let's go to adjust. And right here we got the blur option. And I don't wanna I don't wanna know. I don't want to blur it like it's way too much, but just ever so slightly. I just want to give it like a very, very soft blur, like even 22 units or two pixel is actually, I think be okay, maybe even one. And I think that right now the background is maybe just a bit more separated from the foreground. So with these templates, this is, this is the way how you could separate these elements if you are overlapping images, like one over another. So the next thing that we might do is to maybe like take care of this text here. So let's change it to something like, I don't know, maybe like treat your self, something like that. And if you take a look at the font, it's called Poppins. It's a very, very popular font. I guess we could use it. We can leave it like that. But what I would like to change is this guy right here. Now, this piece of text has an effect added to it. And it's a, it's a basically a drop shadow effect. If you go to effects up here, well, you can see that actually this effect tab is highlighted and its style is set to shadow. Now, this effect is supposed to, again like printers, like this piece of text, a bit like out to the front. But in all honesty, it's kinda like a 990s web design or design in general. Doesn't look all that great to my taste. If we just go to, I mean, if you like, basically just choose none, I think that it looks much, much better. We don't really need that kind of an effect because it's a black text over a dark background. Now we're not even like covering anything really significant inside this photo. So I think that we could just basically use it. So another thing that we could do here is we could maybe like swap these elements, these pieces of cosmetics. I guess there are creams or lotions, I'm not really sure. But what swell, what's most important about these guys is that they simply are separate images that are being put together. So what we could do is we could go to photos. Here you got this magic recommendations. That's basically when you click on see all. You can see that these are the Canva recommendations that the algorithm, things that we might want to use right here. So let's actually take that advice. Let's remove this guy, Let's remove this guy and these guys as well. And now you could basically grab some of these elements and just put them together. So let's say that before we handle battles, mostly bottles, I think. So let's now add maybe this image. And of course I'm going to make it significantly smaller and I'm going to put it somewhere here. And maybe let's add, um, let's see this one. Now. I think this photo, it looks a bit better because it's more in line. I mean, it's colors are more in line with the background, more so than these guys. So I'm gonna get rid of this one. And I'm gonna make it significantly smaller to something like this. I'm going to put it somewhere here. And maybe let's add, Let's try this bottle. Again. It's more in line with our color schemes. I'm going to make it significantly smaller. Going to put it somewhere here. Maybe like that. Maybe I'm going to make it even smaller. And maybe let's try to find something else. Maybe let's actually grab something a bit more contrast in. Let's do this, let's do this BB cream. I'm going to put it somewhere here and there we go. This is how we could easily swap, swap these photos. Here inside the inside Canada. We could also maybe change this text to something like, usually those companies write something like this. Skin. Our passions. Sounds kinda creepy, but you know, maybe, maybe it would work here. Now let me just give you a quick shortcut advice. If you want to quickly change the size of the selected piece of texts, all you have to do is to just press and hold Control Shift and then just press the coma or the period keys. So if you press the coma or the less than symbol, you're going to make the text smaller. If you're going to do the opposite. So Control Shift. And then the greater than symbol, you're going to make the text slightly bigger. I'm going to make it smaller, something like that. Now we can maybe change it to, let's change it to black Playfair display. Let's see how that's gonna work. I think it works quite alright with the cosmetics. But maybe if we could find something less like, less bold. So let's try Playfair Display. And let's see just Playfair display like that. I think it looks just a bit better. You could also maybe increase the line height, which would basically mean that the lines in this paragraph are gonna be like a bit more separated. So to do that, I'm gonna go to this spacing option. And in here we got the letter spacing and we got the line spacing. So maybe let's decrease the letter spacing or increase it rather to something like that. And line spacing just a bit more to something like 0.95. This should be alright. I'm going to maybe bring this guy in just a bit up to make things, everything like in line and a bit to like tidyr. So the spaces between these pieces of texts are a bit more like equal. So maybe like the last thing that we might also try is to just not try to replace the background. Now, normally if you have a photo of your own or maybe like you've got a photo from a photographer like professional or not professional photo session, you would use it. And we will, we are going to use a custom photo, not from the Canva repository later on. But let's say that I would like to now just quickly replace this photo, right? I just want to edit this template to the max. So I'm going to search for something like woman portrait light. And in here I'm gonna get a lot of portraits of a woman. And let's now I did a bit of research before and I really like this photo, like this one right here. So I'm just going to click on it. And let's just make it, maybe I'm just going to also remove that one. And I'm going to make it significantly bigger and pull it may be somewhere like here. And I'm also going to have to move it all the way to them, the back. So let's see that this position options and I'm going to choose to back. So now we've got everything in front. But of course, the problem with this composition right now is that we cannot see the text, but that's easily fixable. We can, for instance, just select one element and just change the color. So I'm gonna go to text color and I'm going to choose white. And since I know that I'm gonna be using white on all of these pieces of texts. I'm just going to shift click on these guys like that. Again, go to the color and choose white for my color. Now basically we reuse that template to create our, our own, basically Instagram, instagram post. The next step here would be to simply save it, right? And then we can upload it to Instagram. And they don't like saving or exporting images, not just in Canada, but in any leg. Piece of software, especially designed piece of software, is not that, that's super easy. I mean, there are some choices that you have to make. But once you learn it, once you realize what you really need, that's saving and exporting is really not a problem. So let's actually explore that subject in a bit greater detail in the next video. 10. Saving and Sharing Your Project: So if you've got your design created, now, it's a good idea to save it or share it with others. So to do that, we have to go to this option right here that says Share. Once we click on it, there's quite a lot of options that you can, that you can choose from right here. So for instance, you can share this design with someone. So let's say that I want to share it with like a fellow co-worker or know someone like that. I will just type in that e-mail. Well, his or her email address. John Doe at let's do like very hotmail.com. And we could add a message to it. Something like please revise or something like that. If you want to, we can invite John Doe now to join our team. And I'm just going to hit on sand. And we're gonna get this, this kind of a pop-up saying that this design was, was shared. We could also set like restrictions to our, our file. So if I want to share our project, we can, for instance, create a link and we can set the permissions to view that file, be restricted to only people that, that were added. Or we can set it to anyone with the link. So if we just published the link somewhere, that person who clicks on the link can basically view our project. There are also options like to use with Canada app. So if we click on, for instance, Instagram personnel, you can see that you're going to get this, use the Canvas mobile app to post to Instagram message. If you want to schedule it, you'd have to have the Pro plan. We can also create the view only link, basically like it's the same process that you can go through when you're sharing something like what, Google Drive or Dropbox. And then we got more tabs. And the first one is the one that's going to allow you to download your project. So if we click on that, you're gonna get different file types right here. So let me just quickly go through these file types so you understand what is the best one in your scenario when you want to save your file? So the first one that you can see is called jpeg. And Canada is telling us that it's best for sharing. So if we use the JPEG, we are gonna get like the most distinctive thing about jpeg is that you can use the quality right here, the compression, of course, only if you have the Pro plan and if you have the problem, you can also change the size upon like downloading or saving the file. And a jpeg, you are not going to be, if you have like a transparent background in your composition, jpeg is not going to preserve it. You're gonna get a white background. So that's something important to understand and that's the main distinction. I'm only maybe the other one is the file size. So that's the main distinction between JPEG and PNG. Png, as Canada says, is best for complex images and illustrations. What which you could understand by complex is simply that P&G allows for transparency. So if you have some, basically if you have a transparent background in your project, PNG is going to save it, as opposed to JPEG that doesn't support transparency. So if we choose PNG, you're going to see that right here we got the options to assist to save the transparent background. We can also compress the file, but usually when you do like basically P&G, well basically you're good to go. You can download your file and then basically you can upload it to wherever you want or share it with whomever you want. Also, you can choose the PDF Standard, which is best well, Canvas as it's best for documents and e-mails. So basically, if you want to just share something in the PDF Standard, some like a newsletter or anything. And you don't want to print it. It's only going to be like flying around in a digital version. You can set, well, you can just choose PDF standard. But if you want to print something, if you want to create a newsletter is going to be printed out or a brochure or something like that. It's best to use PDF print. But the thing is that if we go to the color profile, if you use RGB, That's RGB. It's basically used for digital purposes. If you want to share something digitally, you would choose this color profile. But if we want to choose CMYK, which is best for professional printing and it's a pro version. If you want to use the PDF print, it would be better to use the CMYK. So cyan, magenta, yellow and key color, color profile. And then we also have SVG, which again is a improved version. And SVG stands for Scalable Vector Graphic. Which basically means that if you have something, I'm like a piece of design, for instance, a logo that you save as a vector graphic, which is that can be scaled up or down without quality loss, you would use something like a, like an SVG format. Of course there are other, other vector formats, but in Canada you have SVG, and that's a pro version as you can see right here. Now, you can also create a, an MP4 video if you want to. And also a gift. A gift is in a way similar to PNG as in it also supports transparency, but gifts are of course mostly used for like short clips. You can pretty sure you've seen gifts around and they don't support sounds. So if you want to create like a super, super quick animation or something like that, gift might be a good file type tool to use. But in our case, if we just want to upload our post to Instagram, it would be good idea to just use PNG or JPEG if you want to. Because I'm in this case like a standard JPEG, the quality set to 80% is a good compromise between the file size and the quality. So we could use jpegs since we don't have like any transparent background here. So you can use JPEG or again, we could simply use PDF PNG as it is suggested here by Canada. So there you go. This is, this is how you can save or share your designs you can use from various file formats. And I think that in most, like mostly in your day-to-day work, you're going to be choosing between like PNG, JPEG and PDF. So once you get yourself familiar with like the best-case scenarios, like best uses for those formats. You know, it's gonna be much, much easier for you to basically share and save your files here inside Canada. 11. Create a Facebook Post Design: So we get our first project created. So I think it's high time to start another one. And the next one, I thought that we could simply create a Facebook post. And I've also decided to maybe this time use the desktop app just to mix things up a little bit. In here in the desktop app, if you decide to download it, the easiest way would be to simply first click on this plus symbol right here. And from here, from this list, we can simply search for Facebook post. Here it is, right here, and I'm just simply going to click on it. So I've decided that this time we are not going to be using a template. I mean, we're not going to be just grabbing a template and then just adding elements within that template. We are going to do something different. I mean, a lot of designers out there do it like that. I mean, they are just simply grabbing different designs that are out there because everything has already been designed. And they just reuse elements that they like and they just put them together in order to create a different project. I've decided that for our project we can indeed per search for like an inspiration here inside Canvas. But we could also search for some inspiration like online, and then just try to mix things up, mix, mix different elements from different designs to simply create something of our own. So as you can see, I've been experimenting with some like Christmas designs. So if I click on this guy, so I'm not just going to be grabbing all these elements, changing the background. And I'll do it all the things that we did before. But there's a few things that I like about it. Namely like these, like snowflakes that you can see in the background. I like the way that they are. Simply don't like position that the transparency is, is lowered. So we've got like a nice background and we also have a nice Christmas Eve background colors, so I like that, but the rest, I'm not like the huge fan of. The second thing that I did is I simply googled Christmas Facebook post example. And I really like this one. It looks nice. I don't like the background. I like the background from before, but I definitely do like this Christmas tree much better than what we have in Canada. And I like the way that these pieces of texts are being stacked right here. So I think that we could combine that background with these elements. So the first thing that I'm gonna do is I'm simply going to delete it, delete all the elements that I have right here. So all I have is just like a blank canvas. I'm going to grab my, my background and I'm gonna go to this background color option in here. I just want to like add a nice red Christmas tree color. That would maybe look maybe a bit, something like this. I want it to be a bit more vibrant. So something like this should be, alright. So now let's actually try to add some like snowflakes to our background. Or maybe we could also use some other like Christmas the elements. So I'm just going to type in snow flake like that. Here we have two different Well snowflakes. So we can simply just add a snowflake like that one, of course, I would like to change its color. So I'm simply gonna go to colors. And I'm going to turn this guy. I'm going to make it white. So it looks so well, more or less like this. Now let's try to find something else. Maybe let's go with this one. So again, the same thing, I'm going to go with white. And let's, let, let's see if we can try to fight maybe something, something else. I think this one is a bit different. So let's grab this one. I'm going to make it white. Now we could also maybe try to find something like pay. Let's do like a present. And let's try to find something that would look more or less like this, but will also be three. So let's try to find like a gift or a present graphic. I got something here, but I want these guys to be maybe like more outlined. So something like this would be better. Let's try gift. And let's try to find it. Remember, let's just try to search for graphics. And maybe let's grab this one. And let's change the color to white. There we go. And the last thing that I would like to search for would be something like Christmas bowels. Let's try to find something like that. Exactly, something like this. And I'm also going to make it white. The thing to do here at this point would be to simply just maybe know, like move these guys around, maybe move this guy somewhere here. And of course we need to duplicate the more simply like clone them. And the easiest way to do that would be to simply just grab one press and hold on the Alt or the Option key. If you're working on a Mac and simply move specific elements somewhere to the side. So I'm going to do the same thing with this guy. So holding down the Alt key and then just move in an element, I'm going to move it somewhere here and make it significantly smaller. I'm going to put it somewhere here, maybe even up, up here. I'm going to make these bells but smaller and put them somewhere here and may be down here, but maybe just a bit bigger. There is no right or wrong here. All we're trying to do is to simply have a scattered background or like a background and scattered elements. And I'm also going to move this guy is somewhere here. Now, if you want, you can grab an element, and if you want to rotate it, just grab this guy down here, just click on it and simply move this guy around. So I'm just clicking and holding and then just dragging, saying what this guy, maybe I'm going to move this guy somewhere here and maybe I'm going to rotate it to something like that. Make it smaller. It's just a matter of your taste. I mean, it's up to you to decide what it's supposed to look like. It's up to your design designers. I, we've tried to do here is to just to create a nicely looking like a Christmas Eve, Christmas the background and don't be scared to move these guys like a way of the canvas. What you are trying to do here is to create something like a pattern of different elements. So in a pattern like these, like snowflakes or other elements would simply, would simply go out of our canvas. And that's totally, totally okay. We don't need to worry about that. And maybe maybe I'm just going to call this guy somewhere down here and put it somewhere here. Now of course, if we were supposed to now add more like elements onto these guys, that would be quite a messy. That's not what we want to do. What we would have to do is to kinda like make this background, well, I'm not a blurb but beam but not this. So like right in your face. So we need to make it a bit more delicate. And for that we're just going to have to play with the transparency of our images. But let's actually start doing that in the next video. 12. Finish the Facebook Post Design: So as I said, all we have to do right now is to make sure that these background elements are not, well, basically are not blocked in our view or are not like distracting us from basically seen what's the most important here in this image. And that's coming in just a second. So what I wanna do here is I want to simply just lower the transparency of these elements. And I think I'm going to do lower transparency for these elements at the same time. I mean, I wanted to be the same for all these elements. So I'm simply going to click and drag marquee around all these elements. And here in the top-right corner we got this transparency options. So if we click on it, we're going to have this transparency slider. And if we now start to bran and down to something like maybe 20, maybe something like that. You can see that the transparency is way down and right now, our images will not look like they are the most important part of our background or well, of our design. They are an important part of our background, but they're not the most important thing about our design. So now when we start putting elements onto our design, they will now be not in any way blocking our GitHub Pages add into our design. So this is just an important thing too. Not to remember when you create your own designs to make background like, kinda like in a way detached from the foreground. So you can make it like a blurry or you can make the elements in the background a bit too like, but more contrasty or less obtrusive in a way. So now that we have created this background, I think it looks all right. Now you could search for like ulama that would go into the foreground. So in our, in our second design, we got the Christmas tree and we've got some tax on a lucky wide circular background. Well, that's not too difficult to create, right? So let's start with the text. So I'm just going to try to find a circle element. There we go. And I'm simply going to add the circle that's going to look more or less like this. So I want this guy to be significantly bigger. So I'm just going to make it like that and maybe I'm just going to move it somewhere here. Of course we can adjust it always later. That's not a problem. And now let's add some text over this guy. So I'm gonna go to the Text option and let's add a heading. So in here, I'm going to type in something like our winter deal is here. Why not? Let's, let's add some poetry here. And of course I want these guys to be moved to the left. So I'm going to select them. And I'm going to choose the left, left alignment. Just like that. I don't want this guy to look like this. It looks kinda generic, so I would like to change the color of it. So I'm gonna go to my document colors and I'm going to use the same red color. I also would like to change the font and let me just try to find something like a Poppins bold. But I don't think that we have something like that here. Let's see this living bold, maybe. It actually looks okay. It's not that bad. I'm just going to maybe make it a bit smaller. And I also don't want these, like the line-height to be that big sum. Simply going to change this line spacing options to something like maybe like this, this should be enough. I think it's okay for them. Like the remaining pieces of text that are gonna go on top and on the bottom. I want to use basically the same font, but I am not sure if I want these guys to be like credit in all capital letters. So I'm gonna go to, I'm just going to change it to our, um, our winter. Let me just quickly change this text. Our winter deal is here. Now, our text is, well not readily in small caps, we can even make it just a bit bigger to something like that. And I'm simply going to press and hold on the Alt key and move this guy to somewhere here. And I want these guys to, I want this text to say something like know something about dollar discount. So let's type in something like maybe up to, I don't know, 90 per cent of, let's say that we are generous this winter. And I'm going to of course make it significantly smaller. And I'm also going to grab our letter spacing options. And I'm simply going to increase the letter spacing to something like 60% should be enough. I think I'm going to grab it again. I'm going to press and hold down the Alt key. Move this guy down. And let's type something in. Something like check out. Our best Christmas. Deals with an exclamation point. And I'm simply going to maybe do it in two lines. So maybe I will make these guys just a bit smaller. So they are like in one line. Maybe this should be enough. Let's see. Something like that. Yeah, I think it looks okay. But I would also like to make sure that the distances between all these elements are equal. So when they are like all selected, so I've just Shift-click on these elements. I'm gonna go to position and I want to choose space evenly, vertically like that. So now I know that all these elements are nicely aligned in relational position in relation to each other. Now of course, we could maybe play around with these elements, maybe try to make them, put them somewhere in the center. But I think that it looks, it looks okay. So the final element here will be to add a Christmas tree. So I'm just going to type in a Christmas tree. We've got different Christmas trees here. And I think that this one is even just now, is the same as we have in our, well, the product that we search for, such for online. So maybe let's try a different Christmas tree and let's make it significantly bigger. Let's make it look something like that. It doesn't look all that band. Maybe let's try, just, try to search for, just for the graphics. Let's try to find a different Christmas tree. Maybe let's see this one. Is that a graphic? I think it's a phone that wouldn't look that bad. Well that good. Let's try this one. It might look nice. I'm gonna get rid of this guy. And I'm simply going to make this go bigger. Yeah, I think it looks quite alright. I'm simply going to make it smaller. Now, the thing that I liked about this Christmas tree that it has like these red lights and the red star, which kinda like nicely placed with our basically our color scheme, you know, and I'm just going to maybe move these guys a bit to the side so they don't block our Christmas tree. And maybe I'm just going to make sure that these guys are nicely aligned to the left as well. So again, I'm going to go to the position option and I'm simply going to choose left. There we go. There we go. We've got our Facebook post basically created. So the thing I did here that was a bit different from our previous post previous project was that we didn't grab like a template and simply change the elements. We didn't just switch the elements, but we kinda like blended together two different elements at one we found here on Canva and the other one that would simply googled for. And we know, well, search for an image from Google. And then we were able to simply more like mix elements that we liked from the, from the first Canva design and then from the second design. And this is basically one of the ways you can create your own melody like super original designs, but something that is going to look original enough and good enough for most of your Facebook post or other, basically needs. 13. Guidelines For Creating Newsletters: For our next design, I thought that we might create something like a newsletter. And of course there's different kinds of newsletters that you might create new work. Now like email newsletters, maybe something like a an internal newsletter with your internal company information or maybe something like a business brochure. And I simply think that it's going to be a good opportunity for us to learn maybe a bit more about good composition. Now, we won't be focusing that much on just now adding colors for images, but focusing on making the composition really like convey the right message and make that the whole design be more like understandable for the viewers, for the clients. So what I'm gonna do is I'm going to again, I'm still on the desktop app and I'm going to just adding new, like a new project. And I'm simply going to type in a new letter like that. And as you can see here, we got quite a lot of different newsletters that we could use. They all have the same, basically the same size. But depending on which, like which theme we choose, we're gonna see a lot of examples now, basically for like a church newsletter, company's newsletter, school newsletter, etcetera. So I'm just going to go with maybe like a company newsletter. As you can see, we got a lot of alarm, lot of examples right here. But if you take a closer look at them, you're going to see some common things about these, these designs. So let's actually look at those common elements across these designs to understand what makes a good newsletter of this kind. So let's choose one. Maybe let's choose something simple. Maybe let's choose this one. So let's break this design real quick in terms of, well, in terms of layout, in terms of composition. So usually in these designs, newsletter designs, there's usually like a, like a very prominent piece of text, either in the top or maybe like in the center, like in this case. But it's usually like the most visible part of the newsletter, which basically is the title, the main title of our design. And of course it can say newsletter. It can say something like our own daily update or our news and whatever your company's policy is, whatever your design it. But there's always like a big, bold what piece of text? Quite often with some, with some background that's simply like right in your face. So some of these newsletters, maybe not all of them, but almost all of them also have some meta information here at the top. So like in this case, we got the date, we got some well, some extra text. We also have them like the number of this issue. So I guess this one this one, the issue five, is a May newsletter. These elements simply provide some extra extra pieces of information that usually is the same across all newsletters. So these guys stay in the usually the same. Of course, maybe the issue number will change and the date will change. But the fact that there's a date and then issue placeholder is there. It's like a constant. It's like a header element. And so is like this one here, the footer elements. So in here we've got our company's website, we've got some background. And this part right here is, well, it's gonna be the same across all the newsletter pages. So say if you have like six or seven of your newsletter, this guy will stay like that. It's gonna be the same, but it's also going to be the same if you have more pages within the specific newsletter. So this footer is going to stay the same. And if you've, if you've ever, if you ever go online, you're also going to see these elements are many websites because now many websites simply derive from, from brochure, brochures or simple no print pages. So those websites also have elements that just don't change, like some Meta information in the header and footer. Also, what's, what's important to see here is that we have like a huge, huge photo here in the bag. Now, this one doesn't always look like that. I mean, if we have some more, if we would want to add some more of like a text inside our designer, you will probably skip this kind of a photo. It works good in a way that it's eye-catching. It adds some aesthetics to our, to our design. And of course it's a good place holder if we do not have a lot of texts. But if I just get rid of these guys, but if we grab something different, Let's go maybe with this one, and I'm gonna go with the front page. So in here we only have one image, as you can see here, there's also a simple shape added to the image. Just for. Just to add, just to spice things up, just to add something to that, to the whole design. But there's just one image and there's quite a lot of texts. Now, if you're going for some, maybe like more artsy, thin, you might skip images altogether, but you would really have to know what you're doing. Because usually there are some images in newsletters and basically all designs they just are. Now. They make the whole design a bit more pleasing to the eye. But also here we got the main title right here at the top. We got this matter information here. Well, even more to the top. We got this issue. Well, this is volume 12, but it's basically the issue number number and footer here. If we just add a second page, let's, let's add a new page. You can see that we got the same basic element right here. It looks a bit different, but, um, but it is here. I mean, it's like part of the branding of the company. And this logo element is present on both pages or the front page and the second page. So what is also important to understand? I'm gonna get rid of this guy, and also I'm gonna get rid of these elements is how the texts, of course, is laid out. So I'm going to just grab this one. So typically, you're going to have like of course, paragraphs of texts that are going to be preceded by a, by a title, basically a heading, if you will. And that heading let Tidal is always going to be a bit more prominent. So it can be written with a thicker font. It can be written with a larger font, but it's always gonna be a bit more prominent to just catch, catch them. The viewer's eye basically catch the viewer's attention. Also, what I would suggest is to break your paragraphs into smaller chunks. I think that even these may be are a bit too big and the font here is a bit too small. But usually what you should do is to just make like paragraphs not longer than maybe three lines. I think four will be the maximum because people are impatient these days and just want to know like get the information that they are looking for. Real quick and shorter paragraphs like a bit more to the point, will always help, help your viewer get what they want in terms of, in terms of reading the information that they are looking for. Also in these newsletters, you might see like some featured elements, featured content. Like in here, you can see these guys, these are basically blue rectangles with some topics being put on them. And these featured elements, featured content elements may be different. You might have seen these on websites as well. You can always, you can see that there's like maybe if someone is introducing their services or products now or like groups of products, they are always putting like icons on top and some like title beneath and some texts beneath that and maybe a button. So these are just like elements of featured content. And here inside these newsletters, they might look a bit differently. They may look like this, but they also can look like this guy. Let's go with this one. You can see that this is, while these simple pieces of texts are also just parts of a, of a featured content, but they also could be put in a horizontal manner like here. You can see that we basically have these icons, text and some text here beneath. But of course, as you can see, there's these designs for a bit. Now that easy to read. I mean, there's not enough line-height here with these texts. There's not enough space between the icons and the texts and also between the icon and the surrounding, well and the background basically on the surrounding box. So this, this would have to be fixed. But anyway, you can see these featured pieces of content in newsletters as well. So in general, what I would also suggest is to keep keep things simple not to overdo your newsletters because, you know, people just want to maybe don't like quickly read something. They don't want to, like if they want to read a newspaper. Read a newspaper. But I think that good newsletter, like well-designed newsletter, would always keep things simple and just know, make finding the right information easy for them. Well, for your reader is basically, I think that this is what we could, we could actually use all these ideas in our own newsletter. And so let's actually start doing that in the next video. 15. Let's Finish the First Page of the Newsletter: Well, now we could do the same thing as we did with our this issue number right here. As in, we can simply add a nice background to it. So we can simply separate this piece of texts from the underlying image. So I'm just going to go to elements and I'm going to grab this square and simply make it white. And then let's move it somewhere here and make it significantly bigger. So it looks something like this. This should be enough and may be thinking, I think it looks okay. So if you want, you can of course change the size of this text. You can change the size of the line spacing in, really, that's no better in your scenario. And it would also depend on how much tax you would have read here. But I think that right now we got this nice separation right here. We can maybe just, I'll make sure that they are nicely aligned. So now what we could do is we could simply add some text here beneath this, well, this major texts, this title. So we would have something like a, like a slogan or something like that. So let's go to our text and let's add a sub-heading. And I'm gonna go to that Lorem Ipsum site we saw before. So here on our corporate epsilon, we can simply megaliths just grab like this two-and-a-half lines of texts. I'm just going to copy these guys. And here inside canva, I'm just going to paste that in and I'm going to make sure that these guys are nicely aligned to the left. And let's put it period here, and let's change the text to Open Sans. Now, if you want, you could make it a serif font to make it maybe a bit more readable. But now since it's just a small piece of texts, I think that we should get away with using the same font as we did before. But of course it's not as bold. It is simple Open Sans Regular variant. So I'm going to increase the line height ever so slightly to something like that. And may be. Let's make sure that this guy is nicely aligned with this piece of text here in the top. And I think I'm going to have to make this guy just a bit smaller. So it looks more or less like this. Now we can maybe move it a bit to the bottom like that. So we have a bit more breathing room between these elements. But I guess at this point it looks quite alright. So the next thing to do would be to maybe like divide these two, well, this remaining part right here into two elements. So as I said before, we could use something like a featured content elements. So I'm just going to maybe again, go to the elements and grab a simple rectangle that we can basically just put some somewhere here on the side. I'm going to make it bigger, not smaller. And I'm going to make it taller like that. So all I really want is to separate this left part from the right part in inside here. I just want to add some featured content elements, but I'm not sure if I want it to be this brown, although it doesn't look bad. And I'm also not sure if I'm if it's nicely aligned as you can see, I think we need to move it a bit, make it a bit taller. You know what? It doesn't look all that band. Let's see what is going to be. Now. The chores that we need to have right now is that this element needs to be, well, needs to look good within our design. So it needs to go well with our image. And also whether it's gonna be like a dark background and light text over it, or the other way around. If it's gonna be some dark text over light background, maybe we could try the first way. I'm going to maybe make it just a bit darker, but not select, make it a bit darker brown, maybe something that's going to match this table here. This should be okay. Now that we have this dark background image that we need to add light tags because if you add black text against brown background, the accessibility would be really, really, really poor. So the contrast between the background and the text would be too, well, too little. So let's go to the text and let's add, let's add a sub-heading. And again, let's grab the open, maybe let's grab Open Sans Bold. And let's make it white. And let's make it significantly smaller, something like maybe 14 points. And what I wanna do is I want to simply type in something like maybe I don't know, 01 period. Let's type in something like first issue like that. Maybe one period, too many. So like this, you know what, maybe let's go with Open Sans. Let's see what it's gonna look like. Now let's go to Open Sans Bold. It's gonna be better like this. So I'm just going to put this guy somewhere here. And now we can maybe just duplicate this piece of text and put it somewhere here. Now you can see this black text over light, dark background. It doesn't look all that great. So what I also would like to change is the size. So let's go with something like 14. But also, as I said before, it's a good idea to maybe add a different font for, for like your main text. Now, I know that this is basically the same as here, but let's just, for the sake of learning process, Let's just change this guy to Laura. So it looks a bit different. And of course let's make it white. So now you can see that it looks a bit different. And I'm gonna make sure that the line-height is a bit lower, something like that. And maybe let's 13. Maybe that looks a bit too tight. So, but more of line-height should do the trick. So now we could like additionally divided this first issue from the issue that's coming up with something like a divider. And for that, we could simply grab a line. And I'm just going to try to push it somewhere here and make it significantly longer. So it looks more or less like this. It's a good idea to keep it consistent with our well, with the texts skill, the color scheme right here. And I think I'm going to make it a bit more like a bit lighter. Something like one point should be enough. So now we can grab all of these elements and then go into the position. And we could choose space evenly, vertically like that. And we can group them. So now if we just duplicate this element, it'll be great if a, if a duplicated here at the bottom, but it is what it is. I'm just going to put it somewhere in here and to the side like that. So now all we need to do is to just change the text to something like zero to like second issue, second issue. Let's try to make this guy bit bigger, but sometimes it might be a bit difficult. So let's maybe ungroup these elements. Maybe now it's gonna be a bit easier like that. And then we can bring this guy up along with the line. Let's select everything. And let's again align them vertically. So it looks more or less like this. We could maybe grab all of these elements except for the background and move this guy a bit to the side. So then we're going to just grab all these elements. I'm going to group them, duplicate them, and put them somewhere here. So again, maybe let's ungroup these elements. And let's change. I think I have two periods here, so I just need one, so on like that. And let's add a third issue. And let's make sure that this guy is nicely aligned to the left. And I don't think that this last issue needs, needs to have I don't think it needs to have this divider. So I'm just going to get rid of that. So the last thing to do here would be to add maybe like a main text down here. I would maybe be continued on the second page. So let's go to the Text option. Let's add a sub-heading. And let's maybe let's just grab this piece, this last line of text. I'm going to copy that and I'm going to paste that in. So now we can again grab our main taxed, well main font, which was open, Open Sans. Let's make it bold again to the left, maybe just a bit smaller. Let's put something like that. And let's put it somewhere here. Maybe let's try to, that's not gonna be enough room. So let's make b, make it just a bit smaller, so it looks more or less like this. And then we can simply label it's grabbed some more texts from that website. So I'm just going to grab one paragraph. That's gonna be enough and I'm gonna go back to Canva. And in here, Let's add a little bit of body text and paste that in, make sure it's tightly aligned to the left. And I'm going to go to somewhere here. And I'm gonna make this, of course smaller, but also I would like to divide these paragraphs. So let's again go with, I think this time we should definitely go with our Serif fonts. So Laura and this guy is going to be significantly smaller, something like 14. Then I'm going to add some breaks here. So our paragraphs or not that long. And I'm going to put it maybe like somewhere here and maybe here at the bottom. I'm just going to add a piece of text that's gonna say like continue reading on page two. Because in the next step we are actually going to create a second page here inside our newsletter, but let's start doing that in the next video. 16. Let's Finish the Newsletter: So let's move on now to creating a new page. So the quickest way to do that, of course, would be to just click the Add Page down here. And from this top part, I'm just going to borrow these two elements because I want them to be on the same on each page. These are the elements of our header and I'm simply going to paste them in like that. Right now we can simply add some text and some images. So I'm just going to maybe borrow some texts from here. And I'm going to paste it in here and put it somewhere here. And let's say that on the top, we're going to say that it's continuous from the page one. So I'm just going to paste that in. So continue when something's do something like, let's say from page one, something like that. And now if you want, you can add some more texts to here that would be up to you. But what I wanna do here is I want to add an image here on the side. So for that, I'm just going to go to our elements. And again, I'm going to just type in something like business and photos. And let's grab this one. And I'm just going to put it somewhere here to the side, maybe make it a bit smaller. Now, sometimes with these these photos, you don't need to just like leave some room, like margins here on the side. It may get clipped. Here on the side. It's more of an artistic look, but now it looks, it looks all right, it can stay like that. So now let's add or maybe like a different article. But first let's add a vertical Office photo like this one. And let's make it smaller. And I'm going to put it somewhere here, maybe something like that. So now I'm just going to go back to our first page and I'm just going to maybe copy this one and paste it here. But maybe let's spice things up a little bit. And let's maybe change this color to this brown that we had before. And now let's move. Let's grab some different text. So I'm just going to maybe copy these two paragraphs and go back to Canada. And in here, we could simply may be like, let's just duplicate this piece of text. This way we're going to preserve the same formatting options. I'm just going to select everything by clicking Control a on my keyboard. And I'm just going to press Control V to paste what we copied before. And let's say that this is our second, second, well, basically article. Let's also maybe make this photo a bit bigger so it aligns nicely with our texts. So it looks more or less like this. So this would be basically hours. Well, the second page of our newsletter. And I think that here may be at the bottom. We could also add something like a footer with maybe like a company, like website or some low, some information that usually goes in the footer. So to do that, we could simply just grab, let's go to elements. Let's grab like a simple rectangle maybe. And let's just grab a simple square in this case, but it can be a rectangle once we turn it into one. And let's maybe make it just a bit smaller, so it looks like that. And let's give it a proper background. So now here at the bottom, we could simply no type in that company name. So I'm just going to borrow, this may be piece of text and let's turn it white like that and put it down here. Let's type in like a website, web site.com. That's that's enough. That's all that we need. And I'm just going to make the font smaller. And let's make sure that this guy is a bit. Well, let's make it smaller. So now that when we grab this piece of text, we can go to the position option and just align it to the middle, like that. So it looks a bit, a bit better like this. So there we got. This is like a super, super easy newsletter layout. But all I really wanted you to understand is how to put together specific elements that usually go inside a newsletter. And also how to sometimes tackled challenges like putting text over and over images just to make sure that it will always look invisible. And also how to sometimes separate like the most important elements within a newsletter. Like with just like changing the background and the text. Here you can see that we've got basically black text on a light background. And here it's the opposite. We got light text, white text against a darker background. And the remaining pages of newsletters will simply look something like that. You can just add elements like pieces of texts and images. Beside the soap, they look a bit more like I pleasing you can add, you can add different different colors to your, to your headings, but just make sure that they stay within your color scheme so it can be the same color as this, this background right here. Of course it could. The black, that would be totally up to you. If you want. You could maybe sometimes just add like some no artistic elements. So let's say that if you would like to break the monotony of just image and text image, text, image tags. We could just maybe grab a piece of a rectangle. Maybe let's try to move it just a bit like that. Just to add like a, like a basic graphic element that would just make, make this look a bit more different. Something like that. You could maybe even copy this guy, duplicate it and put it somewhere in here. Remember that we have, Let's go over a background. So if we just put it here, and then when we make sure this guy goes all the way to the back, it's gonna be like against this well, this issue to background. And maybe let's put it like so it goes over our, our image but beneath our this piece of text to right here. So let's maybe put it something like that. Maybe let's let's make sure that this guy goes a bit like one step forward, may be again, bring forward something like that and I'm going to put it somewhere here. And then I'm going to make sure that this guy is being san, has been put all the way to the front, something like this. So you can add elements like this. You can just play around, but just remember about the right composition. I mean, just remember that you have to make it easy for people to read. And of course put the elements that need to go in a newsletter that maybe your company wants or desires. And these ornaments, no, they always have to come last because let's not sacrifice like usability for making it pretty. So yeah, we got our newsletter complete N I guess we can move on to adding our next project. 17. Guidelines For Creating Business Cards: So for our next project, I thought that we could do something like a business card. And of course, we are still here on our newsletter design. And so I'm just going to click on this plus symbol up here. And we can simply type in business card. In here, you're going to see quite a lot of different themes or motifs for business cards. But I'm just going to, I'm just gonna go with a simple business card. And in here you can see like all the different business card templates that Canva is offering. But before we start designing anything here in our project, I think that it would be a good idea to simply understand what's important to remember when designing your business cards. But I think that it would be a good idea also to do it based on one, like IT projects. So we will not just staring at a blank canvas. So I'm just going to choose this one. It's okay. It does the job. So we can simply write now break this business card down. So I think that what's most important about the business card design is that it needs to reflect the companies or the person's like business that they are n and it needs to follow their corporate identity idea. I mean, as you can see here, we got this company logo here on the right. And it has a specific color, right? This greenish color. So when designing your business card, when you already have the logo, it would be a good idea to, if you're, if you're willing to add some graphic elements like these ones right here. So we get this switch here. We got the background. Of course, we got this line right here. So these lines go well together with the company's logo. And this background here, this dark navy I think background. Well, it's a neutral color, so it's gonna go well with everything, but it also goes well with the position of this person. So she's a marketing manager. So she probably would like to have our business cards designed to be more like toned down to like, just portrayed professionalism and usually like simple neutral colors like navy or maybe gray. And these usually are the colors to go for. These colors are also great because they are neutral, so they are gonna go well together with any other color. So this is the first thing to have in mind when designing your business card. So to always make sure that the color scheme that you're using for your business card goes well with like corporate identity of your client. And of course, that corporate identity may be, or should be at least exemplified in a logo like this one right here. So the other thing is to keep your color scheme appropriate. So like in this case, if we are creating a business card for a marketing manager and let's say that she, She's just a freelancer. Like we don't have this logo right here. So usually people like in this field or in, I don't know, maybe, maybe like lawyers, financial advisers probably would be a good idea to keep their business cards. Bit like more professional in a sense like the color scheme is like tone down. It's not like screaming colors. We're not creating anything for a kindergarten or even like a fashion brand or anything like that. So the color scheme should always be appropriate and in line with the business of the person or the company. So another thing to remember is whitespace. It's always a good idea to leave quite a lot of room on the top, on the sides and the bottom. Not just because this business card is gonna be printed out and it's going to be cut by printing machine. But also because it's going to be easier to read for people who are going to be reading this business card. And always generous whitespace. It always portrays professionalism, you know, not just the professionalism of the Mariana Andrews and marketing manager, but the professionalism of the designer who created a specific design. The next thing I think is important to talk about is the typeface. So the typeface that you are going to go for should, again be it should go in line with the company's business or with the company's message. So if we are now like a rule of thumb, avoid Comic Sans. But also I would strongly suggest to avoid the lobster or Lobster Two is basically the New Comic Sans. If people want to use a font that is not well, that is really playful because they want to portray themselves or their clients has been more like approachable. I guess. They're going to use labster, which is heavily overused. So I would advise to Refraining from using lobster or Lobster Two, There's a lot of typefaces that are similar to Labster. And if you want to go for that kind of a look, you can use those and you will find them even on Google fonts and font like Pacific, for instance, that might be a good alternative for lobster. In terms of your font choice, whether you go for a sensory, for a Serif font, that, that is not that important. It might be up to your preference or your client's preference. Maybe they're using a specific font on the, on the website or in their brochures. So you might want to use that. But if you want to use display fonts, fonts that are only basically good for like, like titles or headings, not for like pieces of texts, like paragraphs of text. Well, you can do that, but as I said, be careful not to go overboard because if we, for instance, if we grab this font and if we change it to say, Oswald, which is a very heavily used font, it looks artsy, but it may own work well, if it's, if it's used to write like this person's name. If you were to also use it for this piece of text down here, again, Oswald, it will becomes illegible. If you have to, when you're creating a business cards, you have to remember that this business card, its size, its own, Your, it only looks like that on your monitor. Once you print it out. On a standard, normal, standard business card, it's going to be super, super small and this is gonna be super illegible. You'd have to, for instance, to make it work, you would have to increase the letter spacing, but that might really not. It might look like you're not really knowing what you don't really know what you're, what you're doing. So I would avoid using display fonts for pieces of texts like this one. Also, it would be a good idea to keep your fans consistent. So if you are, if you're using liking here, we had, I think it was Open Sans. So remember, let's just go back a few steps. So I'm going to just go back to the beginning. So we've got Open Sans here is Open Sans here is Open Sans. It might be sometimes a bit boring, especially with a font that it's super, super legible. And if legibility is your main concern, Open Sans is a great fund because even in small, in small sizes it's still legible. But if you would like to keep it a bit more like interesting or we could do this guy Open Sans this guy open science. But maybe we could do this guy. Let's say Laura. Laura like that. Just to make things a bit more interesting. But Laura is a paragraph font. It looks really, really nice, really, really professional. So you could do that. But as I said, there are some rules to remember. We touched a bit on the font size, so I usually try not to make my, well, the piece of texts that I'm working on, I try not to make it smaller than eight points because below that, it might really be, well know, like illegible and especially. So let's say that you are creating a business card for a physical therapist who is well, whose patients are usually people like, I don't know, over the age of 60 or something like that. So their vision is not that great anymore. So if you give them so if that if your client, if that physical therapists gave that business cards to sum to a person who's more than six years old. And that business card is illegible or the text is really small. It might be a bit difficult for that person to read and then to contact that physical therapists. So that's something to bear in mind that like this, some kind of an accessibility part of your business card is also important. Now in terms of like the max size you should go for, I don t think that there's like a definite number four for creating business cards in terms of the font size. So now it's going to be up to you. You will have to see what works good, like layout wise in your business card. So, you know, the more important thing is to keep things like no legible and not to make the font's too small. So making the fonts too big is not that big of a concern. Also, don't forget to always like add like contact information to your business card design. Here we got the phone numbers, we got some website address, we got a we also have a e-mail address. We got the we got the stationary address. But the thing that might be missing here is like some social media handles. Maybe, you know, if, if it's important, of course, to your client, it would be good, it would be a good idea to add those as well in the business card design, at least the handles like a Twitter handle or YouTube handles since they are as they are available right now. Instagram, Facebook know, maybe like keep, keep things simple and don't add like five handles because it might get messy. So just leave like maybe three social media networks that are the most important to your client, unless all of them are important. So then if that's the case, you could maybe like add those to a second second page. So if I just add like a second page, so a business card can have like two pages, maybe like on the second page, you could have more information in terms of your social media, social media handles. In here we only have this company logo and a nice background that goes well with this. These elements are artistic elements right here. So of course, business cards can be like double-sided and they can be one-sided. That's up to you and up to your, your client. And usually now you might also want to consider like putting the company logo me black something somewhere on the side and leave the remaining part blank because still some people will act to take notes using just simply a piece of pen and a piece of paper and a pencil, leaving a bit of a space for those nodes might come in handy. I think that we got the most important aspects of creating business cards covered. Of course, your business cards can be rectangular. They can be square in shape, they can be horizontal, they can be vertical. But those things are a bit more like, less important than the layout aspects that we just talked about. So now that we have that covered, I think it would be a good idea to simply start designing our business card. So let's start doing that in the next video. 18. Let's Start Creating the Business Card: So let's actually start to creating our business card. So I'm going to go to this plus symbol right here. And I'm going to type in business card just like that. And I'm just gonna go with this simple business card template right here. So the design that I think I'll be going for is like a business card for a real estate agent. Basically, what I want to achieve here is I want to have a photo here, somewhere here on the left. I want to have a logo on the right and some main information here in the center. So I'm going to start with adding the image, the photo on the left. So we're gonna go to elements. And I'm going to try to look for something like business portrait. What I wanna do is I want to have a vertical portrait. So from these options, I'm going to choose vertical and we're going to apply the filters. And here we can look for a portrait that's going to look best. Of course we want to have a photo, we don't want to have graphics. So you can just narrow down our search by just clicking on the photo, this photo tab. And I think that this one looks nice. Let's see what it's gonna look like. It looks okay. Maybe not all that professional. I want to have some nice background. Maybe let's try this one. I think it looks okay, although we might want to crop it just a little bit. And by the way, notice that whenever we hover over this disliked parts of our canvas, we got this rectangular bounding box and it's just telling us where our spread is. Basically this whitespace between these rectangular guides and the edges of the canvas is our spread. So it's like a safe zone. I mean, it's best not to keep something here, so it doesn't get cropped in the printing process unless you really, really know what you're doing. So we do know what we're doing because we do know what kind of an effect we want to achieve here. So I'm gonna go to somewhere here. I'm going to position my photo right here, but I don't want it to be touching this top on the left part of my Canvas. So as I said, we could maybe crop this guy, well, this, this photo a little bit. So I'm just going to double-click inside and I want to get like her face and maybe like torso a bit more like in the focus. So I'm just going to make it do something like that. It might be just a bit better. And I'm just going to press Enter. And now it can just reposition it and make it significantly taller like that. So like her whole body is a bit more in focus, so to speak. So the next thing, maybe you could even make it just a bit bigger, something like that. So the next thing that I would like to do is I would like to add a logo here on the right-hand side. Now, of course, normally you'd you'd have a logo prepared, you know, or you would do it yourself. But we don't have it here. So I'm just going to try to look for something like house logo, maybe not, maybe let's do real estate logo like that. And I think that these two first guys are, well, they simply look nice. So whichever one we're going to go for, now it's gonna be good. I mean, it's just a dummy logo. So let's choose this one. And I don't think I want it to be like this dirty gold color. I want it to be darker. So let's go to some, maybe let's start with the blue color and I'm gonna make it significantly darker, doodle, it's gonna look something like that. And I'm going to make it a bit smaller. Now we need some texts, so I'm going to add a heading. Let's type in something like real as Tate. There we go. And I want to make sure that it's aligned to the left. And let's go for a font called algebraic sands bold. I think it's just going to look nice in the scenario. I'm gonna make it significantly smaller. I think this should look okay. And I'm going to change its color to maybe something like dark gray. Dark gray. Maybe something like that this should do. And I'm going to duplicate this guy again. And I'm going to type in something like partners. Maybe we're going to push it somewhere here. And of course, this needs to be smaller, Something like that should be okay. We got a super, super simple logo right here and I'm going to select everything. I'm going to group them, and then we're going to make them significantly smaller. And I'm just going to try to push it to this top right corner of my dislike rectangular guide space. So the next step to do here would be to add like a name of this person, harp and black position and some pieces of information. So again, I'm going to add a heading and I'm going to type a name, which is going to be like Jane Johnson. Now again, I'm going to align it to the left. And I'm gonna go to again. Let's try our gray or Sans bold. There we go. Like that. And maybe let's actually add like a separating element between this photo and this piece of text. For that, all we need is just a simple, I'm going to remove that. And we just need a simple lot. Well, the square root symbol. So let's make a rectangle looking like that. And I think it would be a good idea to make it the same color as our logo right here in the top. So I'm just going to choose maybe like this blue color. And let's change the font color to white, like that. Maybe I'm going to make the text just a bit smaller and maybe I'm gonna make this guy but smaller. So now we can just grab both of these elements and make sure that they are nicely aligned to the center like that. And now if we just group them, we can move them somewhere like here on this photo that is gone. So it looks more or less like this. And then I'm just going to grab the text tool again. I'm going to add a subheading That's gonna say something like partner, maybe. There we go. I'm going to put it somewhere here, of course, change the font to do the same font. And maybe let's use the same gray as we use for the logo. So it was nothing this one. And now we can simply just now add some elements to indicate the phone number, the address, maybe the email, maybe the Facebook profile, things like that. So I would start with the telephone icon. So I'm going to go to the elements and I want to search for the phone. And maybe this graphic right here, I'm going to change its color to this grayish color. And I'm gonna make it significantly smaller. Put it somewhere here. And I guess we could maybe just duplicate this guy, but it cannot be bold. I think it just would be easier if you will, better if it was just regular. And we can maybe make it just a bit smaller and type in like 123456 and then 789. Let's see what it looks like. Um, let's actually check this. Olive gray Sans Bold. Let's keep it like that. And let's make sure that these guys are nicely aligned to the center, to the middle in this case. So now let's maybe try to find something like an envelope for the e-mail address. So let's just type an envelope and let's try to find something that's going to look good. So let's just go with graphics. And let's try to find something that's going to look good when it's simply flame, flame flag, icon setting that this one might look okay. Once it's like black, Let's make it smaller. Put it somewhere here. And then let's just close this guy. And let's type so type in something like hello. I don't know, real estate.com. And again, I'm going to make sure that it's nicely aligned to the left menu. Let's move these guys just a bit to the side. And again, I'm gonna make sure that these guys are nicely positioned to the middle. Then I'm just going to Cologne does going again. And this time maybe let's try to find something like a, like an address icon, the pen. And let's make this go smaller. It looks more or less like this. Let's do something like I don't want to three made up made up streets. Like, I don't know, country. Just like that. Just so we have something here. Now I'm not really sure if this allegory or Sans Bold looks okay. Maybe it's going to look better to your tastes. I think I'm just going to make these guys just a bit smaller. Now when the font is this like thin, maybe it's a good idea to find like some not filled out icons. But I know what this will do is more for like understanding what we are trying to achieve here. So again, position, middle, these guys position and metal. And these guys position and middle like that. And let's see, These guys are nicely aligned to the left. There we go. These guys maybe let's align them to the center. Like that. I guess this would look okay. So maybe the last thing to do he'll be to like add some social media things. So let's try and Facebook icon. Let's do maybe this one. And let's make it significantly smaller. So it looks more or less like this when it put it somewhere here. And I'm going to type in something like facebook.com, real estate. Let's put it somewhere here. This should be okay. Maybe let's make this guy just a bit bigger like that. And you know what? I think that it would be better to move these guys somewhere to the center. Like that. We could add member lucky Twitter handle as well, like LinkedIn. Now we could add more icons. But I think that as far as these pieces of texts go, I think it looks okay. Maybe the last bit that I would like to do here is to add some, some, some like just ornaments or something like decoration that would maybe go all the way to the back. So let's try to send it to the back. Just so we have something going on here. Maybe let's make this guy just a bit darker, so it looks more or less like this. And let's put it somewhere here, maybe even darker like that. And then we could maybe just duplicate it and put it somewhere here and send it to the back like that. And maybe again, I'm just going to make it darker, something like that. Now. I'm doing it just to know, just to have some more elements right here. If you want to have like triangles, you can have triangles. That might work too. So let's actually maybe check out a triangle. So if we were added to, if we were to add a triangle, for instance, instead of this guy. And maybe we will rotate it. So it looks more or less like this. Like that. And we would make it significantly bigger and send it to the back. We will have a bit more like a different kind of an ornament. Um, it doesn't necessarily look that great, but it's not, it's just something to keep our eyes a bit busier to show that we have something here as well. So yeah, we got to these items are created. We have like a logo. We got our main name here, we got the photo, we've got some nice pieces of information. Now if you want, you can firms play, we'll play around with some elements. For instance, we could make the logo go to the bottom, or maybe like somewhere here, but I usually try to keep it here in the top. Now, it can be bigger, it can be smaller. That's now it's gonna, it's gonna be up to you. We can make some elements bigger. But all in all, the most important things here is that we got all the pieces of information that we wanted. And that's what a business card basically should should have. Now, a business card could also have a second page, but I think that we are going to start doing it in the next video. 19. Let's Add the Second Page: So just to add a second page to our business card, I'm just going to click on this plus symbol here and we have a little tooltip saying add page. So basically the only thing that I want to do here is I want to add the logo and it's going to be like big and bold. And in the center, I want to add some background. So I'm going to grab the logo. This whole group. If I can just select the whole group, maybe that's going to be easier like that. I'm just going to copy it. However, if we go to the second page and I'm going to paste it back in. Now, I think that it would be better to simply positioned on these elements like vertically, not like that. Let's maybe just ungroup these elements and simply move this guy somewhere in here to the top and this guy to the center. We can always just make sure that they are nicely aligned to the center, but I think that they already are. And I'm gonna make these guys just a bit bigger. So they look like this. And I'm gonna make sure that they are nicely aligned to the center. Something like so. This should be alright, Although maybe we could just grab everything, group it, and then just make sure that everything is slightly aligned to the center. But I guess we are good to go. Everything is everything planned out nicely for us? So we've got our simple, simple logo. So now what we could do is we could simply add like a background in here. And it's not gonna be like overly complicated. So let's maybe do something like let's add a background color to our business card. And I'm going to make it something like this. So don't be worried that you don't see the logo right now we are about to add background to it. In fact, we are going to try to build out a shape. So first I'm going to just grab a circle. I'm going to make it just a bit bigger. And I want to make it white. And of course, I wanted to make it, I want to push it somewhere like behind our logo and I'm gonna make it significantly bigger. So it looks more or less like this. Maybe let's make this guy just a bit smaller. There we go. What I'm trying to do here is I'm trying to build out like a keyhole icon. And to do that, we can just add a triangle like that, That's supposed to be white. And this guy also needs to go to the back. So now when we push it somewhere here, it doesn't overlap with our logo. So I'm going to make it small, taller like that. And I'm going to make it just a bit something more, something more like this. I think this should be alright. So basically, you know, with, with this design, what we are doing is we are basically put in our logo against a background that's in a form of a keyhole because this is a real estate business or I thought that, yeah, we can do something like that. Of course then out the main idea here is that you can create these kind of second pages of your designs. Now using basically just some simple elements like a, well definitely a logo, but maybe also know likely some background, some elements, maybe some, some additional ornaments and things like that. But all in all know it's a, it's a very simple second business card page design, but I think it just does the job. So now when we have this guy created, all you would have to do is to just shared, and I would strongly advise to share it as a PDF. Pdf for best, for printing. These settings would be, would be the best. Because you're probably wondering what you would want to simply print it out because this is a business card. So PDF would be the what would be your best choice would be able to in the same file? No. Adam will add to the same file all the pages that she could simply no, sent out to a print shop or however you would want to print it. So there we go. We got our business card, design and create it. And I think it's time to move on to our next project. 20. Let's Explore the Trifold Brochure Project: So for our next project, I thought that we might create a really simple brochure. And you might be wondering, how is that different from a simple newsletter that we created before. But I thought that we might create a tri-fold brochure. So I'm gonna go to this plus symbol again, I'm going to click it. And I'm going to type in brochure. And as you can see, we've got different brochures right here. So we could go for like a tri-fold brochure, a bio fault, a fault. There are different brochures right here. So I thought that we might want to create like a tri-fold brochure. It's a bit more complicated. And Thursday few things you need to remember when creating those. But it's really interesting, I think. And I felt that we could do like a travel brochure. So I'm just going to click on that. And as you can see right off the bat, we got a, we got a canvas that's divided into three separate elements, like these right here. And of course here on the left we already have like simple sample templates. Whenever we hover over these, you can see that these have two sets of like designs. Because when you create this kind of a tri-fold brochure, you're going to have like a well, it's not going to be just on one side. It's always going to be like your design is going to be printed on both sides, on each side of these three elements. So let's actually maybe add one just to see how it's going to play out. So I'm just going to click on this one. As you can see, we got this nicely looking layout to bean, paste it in. Basically, when looking at these tri-fold brochures, There's like one thing you really need to remember. I mean, you really need to think through. Because when you're looking at, for instance, like these parts, you have to know that the right part, this guy right here, if you just imagine for a second, is going to be our first first side, first page of our design. This middle part is going to be our last page. And this guy right here is going to be this left one. It's gonna be the first page, someone who sees when he or she opens up our brochure. So this is something that you really need to know, like pay attention to. And then if we just add the page here and then add the second design, you have to remember that these three parts are actually what the person reading our brochure is going to see inside. When creating brochures like this, you really need to like imagine how this brochure is going to be folded once it is printed. So the right one is gonna be the first page, the middle one is going to be the last page. The left one is going to be the first one that someone sees when he or she opens up our brochure. And these three elements from the page to these guys are going to be the centerfold of our brochure. So what I would also advise when creating brochures like this, especially when adding text and images, is not to pay attention to remember about the folds. Because like in this case, if you imagine that this image is actually being put like this, it looks nice, right? It's very playful, I guess. But when this brochure is being folded, this part of the photo like this hand of this girl, this piece of them, the hat, her arm is going to be on the last page. And only this the last piece of the hat. Now the piece of the backpack or part of the backpack is going to be presented on the first page. So it might not look like all that great. Because basically it's going to like this fold is going to crop this photo here at this, this part right here. So we're not going to be seen like this whole image, like we can see it right here. Same goes for the text. If you're doing tax, especially like it's easier here, right? Because when you can like add elements that go like across, maybe even like 33 folds and three pages right here because one is basically opened, you're going to see all the elements that are here. So nothing is gonna be like get cropped. But on these pages you have to like be sure not to like go like put anything that would like cross or go across two or three folds. Because, you know, these pages are not going to be visible when you'll be like, well, basically taken, taking this brochure into your hand. These are the things that we need to remember when creating like tri-fold brochures like this. One thing that we can actually start designing, because I know, I just think it's a really nice, It's a really nice way to explore, explore the possibilities of Canada. And I think that the travel team is also quite interesting. So let's actually start designing our brochure in the next video. 21. Let's Add the Front Page: So I've decided to create a brochure for a travel agency that wants to send people on a trip to Rome in Italy. So let's start designing from, well, from scratch, yes, from this right part, right here. So I'm gonna go to elements and let's see if we have some nice like Rome or maybe like Italy in general photos. I think that we might start with adding like a nice photo, but I think that I would like it to be like, I wanted to cover this whole space right here. So I think that maybe if we search for something vertical, that would be just a bit better. You know what? I think that maybe the Colosseum is a bit, it's a bit cliche. So maybe let's look for something else. I think this one, this photo right here looks, looks nice. So let's put it here to the right. But let's make it slightly bigger. And I think that it would be a good idea to move it to the side. So basically we have to crop it. So I'm going to just double-click inside and I'm just going to move this guy right here. And that might be a bit too big. So let's maybe make it a bit to the side. And now we can simply double-click inside and just move this guy to somewhere here. That might look a bit better. So what I like about this photo is that, well, it's a bit more like I don't want to say like darker, but there's not that much light in it. And so we wouldn't have to add a lot of like backgrounds, stylistic elements to make the text to pop right here. Because right now what I would like to do is I would like to add, well, actually let's add a heading. Let's say something like visit, visit Rome. And I would put it somewhere here, maybe like that, or maybe here in the bottom. But of course we need to make it more visible. So I'm gonna make it white. And let's see. I think it's gonna be moved bit more visible right here. May be our photo is not shown something from the ancient period, like the ancient Roman think it's more like from the Renaissance period. Not sure. But still it looks like very classy or classics. So I think that a serif font would look a bit better here. So let's, let's actually check out this font. Let's see what it's gonna look like. And let's maybe make it a bit bolder, maybe just a bit bigger. I do know we can always just try to find something else. Well, something a bit more like visible, but still I would like to remain that the serifs. So let's see Alexandria, maybe not the bold version. Let's just type in Alexandria. And in here we got a lot of nice variation. So let's try allegory or medium. I think that it looks okay, it's visible enough. And of course we can decide whether we want it here on the top or whether we wanted here in the bottom. So nice. I would like to add another subheading. And I would like to use the same font. And let's type in something like maybe like weekend for only, I don't know, $99. Let's put it like that. And I'm going to move it somewhere here. And of course it needs to be significantly smaller. And I want to make it white as well. I think that it would be a good idea to maybe like make these guys more than to the center like that and maybe move them a bit to the bottom. And maybe we could also just add something like, hey, what the name of our travel agency. So I will just type in something like travel agency incorporated. There we go. And maybe we could use an allegory, a font been Alexandria, sense, regular. There we go. Now let's move it to the top somewhere here. And let's make sure that this guy is nicely centered as well, but not centered to that. And let's maybe now grab all of these elements and try to center them. And this should, this should look okay. Yeah, there's not enough contrast for you between the background and the text here in the foreground. You could always just add like a nice rectangle right here. But I don't think I want to add, I don't, I don't want to cover this, this beautiful photo. So what we could do is we could simply added the image and may be like ever so slightly just bring the brightness down just so it is a bit more visible, but I don't want to I want to make it too dark either. So I think that it I think it looks okay like this. So our first page of our brochure can look like that. It's okay. Of course, you could maybe make this photo smaller and add some ornaments like we did before. We could simply maybe like crop it till it looks more or less like this, then of course, these guys should have a different color. But I just want to show the people like the the beauty of this building. So I don't want it, I don't want to, I want the image to speak for itself in order to put it simply, I just want, I want, I want to invite people who just like me would appreciate and the views like this. So I don't want to cover it with anything. But of course, on other sides, on other pages of our brochure, we of course need to add more information than just the spirit realm. We can for only 99 bucks. So let's actually start doing that in the next video. 22. Let's Design the Last Page of the Brochure: So now let's maybe add the last page in our brochure. So on the last page, usually what you could add is some thing like, like contact information, maybe like a small About Us section, things like that. But the first thing that I would do is I would add a background. So let's go to elements and let's go to square. And I'm just going to add a square. Because I just want to add like important pieces of information. I would like people to be able to read it easily, but also, I want this background to be in line with my photo. If I just grab my photo and I go to the colors, I want to pick up a color from my photo. So maybe like this dark brown I think is a dark brown, maybe a lighter brown also do. Maybe even this blue color, it will also look nice. So like if you choose a darker color, just be sure to add like kernel text that would be white. Just add white text or light. And if you want to add like a lighter background, that would go well with your photo, just add dark text over it. I know it's like a, like a very simple thing to do, but trust me, a lot of designers seem to forget about that. And the accessibility of their designs is really not, not that fantastic. So now let's add some text right here. So I'm gonna go to the text and I'm going to add a heading. And let's make this heading, Let's grab this gray or medium again. But I don't think I'm gonna be using a simple black color. I don't even think that I'm gonna be using white color. When I, when we take a look at our photo, we can see that we got a nice beige right here, but also have a nice orange red here. We got like a dirty yellow color right here. So we could maybe try to use one of those colors. So I'm just going to type in something like maybe about us or about travel and travel agency incorporated. Let's let's write it like this. I'm going to move it somewhere to decide and make it a bit smaller. So let me just aligning to the left because we know when you're aligning things to the left and when you are basically like changing the size of your font and you want the font to be set to the left. It's just gonna be easier too. It's gonna be quicker to get the right size and alignment you want. So let's see, we got this orange color and we've got this light color. So let's see if we can extract those colors from basically from our photo. So let's go to the colors. I think that the easiest way to do this would be to simply add like a color, basically ourselves. So let's try to find something that would match this orange color. So let's just go to like a nicer orange, maybe something like this. But I think that it's not that visible. So maybe let's try something a bit lighter. Maybe like that, something that would go along well with these colors like here on the side. Maybe something like that. This should be okay. Now of course, what I would like to add here is some some information and some texts about our about our agency. So let's maybe I'll just grab, I'll quickly grab some Lorem Ipsum and I'll be right back with you. Okay, so I've copied some Lorem Ipsum to my clipboard and I'm gonna add a little bit of body tags and I'm going to try to paste that in. And I'm going to make sure that these guys are nicely aligned to the left. And let's go with the allegory or Sans Regular. And let's make this guy significantly smaller. Something like 15, that might be enough. And I'm gonna make this guy is white. And let's maybe give it a nice indent right here, a nice paragraph. And let's move these guys somewhere here. So it looks more or less like this. Maybe let's actually get rid of that paragraph. This should be okay. As you can see, I've added some IT crowd Lorem Ipsum, if x is such funny, decided to edit, edit right here. So I'm going to duplicate this guy and I'm going to put it somewhere here and I'm going to type in something like contact us like that. And again, we could know like add the icons here on the left. So I'm gonna go to elements like icons. And of course like for the telephone number, e-mail, website, all those things, solids do phone. And let's add this one. And let's make it white. I'm going to make it significantly smaller. Put it somewhere here. And maybe you could just grab this paragraph. I'm just going to quickly duplicate it and just type in a fake phone number that's going to look more or less like this. And let's make this go smaller. Let's now try to find an envelope for a four hour email. I've come and let's do graphics. And let's try to find something suitable. Maybe if we add the icon is gone, it's gonna be a bit easier. Maybe let's try this one. And I'm gonna change this color, the black color to our background colors, so it looks just a bit better. I'm going to put it somewhere here. And then we can simply duplicate it and just type in some fake e-mail address. So like info at fake email.com, like that. This should be enough. Maybe let's move this guy to the side. Or maybe this envelope should be but smaller and put some more to the left. And of course, it's always a good idea to make sure that these are, these guys are nicely aligned. Um, so I guess we could also add light can what basically a website address. So let's just www. And let's add this guy and let's change the color to white again, going to make it smaller. Let me just try grep. Then sometimes with Canada it's a bit difficult. So this guy clone that email address and let's type in just suddenly like www travel agency got to come. There we go. So again, put it to the center, make sure that these guys are nicely centered like that. Let's also add the Facebook icon and that should be it. I mean, I just don't want you to I don't want to bore you with looking at adding like bees, like repetitive elements. But an author important when building design like that. So let's, let's patiently add them. So I'm just going to add to be.com. And let's type in travel agency. I'm gonna CamelCase, it's always but more visible. Let's leave it like that. It should look okay. Maybe of course, let's align them to the middle, like that. So we will have our elements ready. Of course, the last thing to do would be to maybe make sure that they are nicely aligned to the center. And maybe this guy, that these guys are nicely aligned to the left like that. So now everything is nice and even now you've got some room left here at the bottom. So maybe what we could do is we could add a frame. And maybe like a bit more like fun keyframe. But let's go with all because I want to add a frame. You know what, maybe let's, let's try adding this frame. I'm going to make it smaller, so it looks more or less like this. And we're going to put them, put it somewhere here at the bottom. And now we can simply just type in like Italy. Find a nice photo of maybe let's add tickets. ***** with Telegram. Not sure. I'm just going to edit like this. So we got some, something is actually happening here as well. We can maybe move it a bit, make it just a bit bigger, Something like that. So yeah, I guess we got to the last the last page of our tri-fold brochure created. So now let's actually move on to creating this left page right here. That as I said before, it's gonna be the one that you're basically a customer is going to see once they open the, our brochure. So let's start doing that in the next video. 23. Let's Design the Third Page: So I think that we can start with adding another frame, but this time, this frame is gonna be a bit funkier. If you type in frame here in Canada, you can see that we got these. But strangely looking frames right here. They look like they are in a way divided or like cracked maybe. So let's see what they can do for us. So I'm going to put it somewhere here and make it significantly bigger so it spans across our page. Now as you can see, we got these like cracks right here. So what we could do is we could add the same photo to it, live to all these elements to make it look basically like It's an old photo that was cracked. But I want to use this frame as like a placeholder for different images. Just to know, just to add in one frame like different views of the country or maybe like this particular city. So let's again type in Rome and I'm gonna go to photos. And let's make it this time actually add know what now I think it's the Fountain Trevi. I think it looks really nice. I'm going to just edit. And notice that when you place it over a specific part of the frame, it changes the position, changes the fill right here. So I'm just going to edit in the center like this. I'm going to add this one maybe and put it on the side. And maybe let's add, well, this is like a small piece right here, so you would need something maybe a bit darker, a bit more like distinct, maybe. So let's see if we have something like that. Maybe let's go with this Colosseum photo and put it somewhere here to the top. Like that. In a very easy way, we can simply add different photos that a user would, the customer would see once the brochure is opened. So basically what we could add here at the bottom is basically some piece of text. So maybe let's just borrow these elements. I'm shift clicking on them and I'm just going to copy that, paste it in and put it somewhere here. And of course, these, the font needs to be changed. The color of the font needs to be changed. So let's go maybe with this darker blue here and this guy, let's simply make it black or like maybe dark. Let's try brown or maybe like dark gray. And I'm going to maybe increase the text here, the, the text font, or maybe let's stay with 15. I think it looked alright, and I'm going to push it somewhere here. And maybe this time I'm actually going to add a paragraph so that now we simply have a bit more, a bit more text right here. So now in this video, in this part of the project, it's the most important takeaway is that you can use the frames here in Canada to add multiple images in one frame to create like a collage that would simply look lies in a, in a brochure like this one. So now we can actually move on to creating our centerfold. And to do that, I would just simply add a page like that. And now we can actually create a collage that we don't have to be like, you know, I mean, we don't have to limit ourselves to restrict our self in terms of the texts and photos. I mean, we can do like photos that would span across two folds right here, maybe even 3 v, if you wanted to do that. Just to make things a bit more like interesting. But let's start doing that in the next video. 24. Finish the Brochure: I think we're going to start with maybe adding a background color to my will, to these three, actually false to this page. So I'm gonna go to the colors and maybe let's add a dark background like that. Because I just think that right now we could maybe add likely photo that would go across our page and then some light pieces of text. So again, I'm going to try to, try to find a frame that would look a bit more. Well, that would make our image, it's going to go here a bit more interests in a bit more dynamic. Maybe, maybe let's try something a bit like funkier. Maybe let's try this one. Let's see what result we are going to get. So I'm going to make sure that it's nicely stretched out and looks more or less like this. So now we can again search for Italy or maybe even Rome, because we're visiting Rome. And let's search for photos. And let's try to find a nice photo that's a bit, well, let's definitely horizontal like that. And again, Colosseum, maybe let's try something different. Maybe let's try this one. Why not? Let's put it inside. I think that maybe this frame is even a bit too dynamic. You know, let's try five different frame like that. Let's maybe go with this one or maybe this one. And let's put it here to the top. Let's make it significantly bigger and make it look something like this may be. Maybe let's make it smaller on this side like that. So now we can again search for a photo and let's maybe add this photo. I know it's a Florence photo button now. It simply looks nice. So I think we can add it to maybe let's crop it like this. Now we got this photo that stretching across all of these folds right here. And we don't need to worry that something is going to be like No, not to nicely cropped because this photo, it's been put in the center. So now it's meant to be like opened. So when someone opens it, they're going to see this whole, whole photo or whole image like this. Now, the last thing to do here would be to just add some text here at the bottom. So again, maybe we could just borrow some pieces of text. So maybe let's just grab these guys. I'm going to copy them and I'm going to paste them somewhere here and put them may be here and let's add a different title. So me like flying flying from Sydney or something like that. Then let's add a, Let's grab, maybe I'm going to grab a bit more Lorem Ipsum. So I've copied a hefty chunk of lorem ipsum, and I'm just going to paste some of it. Maybe I'm going to add a paragraph here and add some more. Maybe like just this one sentence. I'm going to copy, cut out, cut that out. And I'm just going to quickly clone these elements. I don't want to copy and paste them in front because I just have my Lorem Ipsum in my clipboard. So when we do the same with these guys and put them somewhere here to the, to the side. Again, I'm just going to paste that Lorem Ipsum and may be I'm just going to get rid of these elements like that. And again, I'm gonna just clone these elements, put them here to the side, and paste that in. And maybe let's just do that piece of, well, let much of Loren Ipsum, maybe this guy is a bit too much, so I'm going to just get rid of that. So flying from Sydney, let's see. Let's type in something like, um, like a three-day wonder or something like that. I'm not a travel agents, So I don't know how how would I sell it. So three-day wonder, Let's do something like the best food in Italy or something like that. And there we go. We would create like a very, very simple like a brochure. Of course. In your case, you might want to add more photos. We could add some ornaments here in the back that would simply no depend on your, on your design, on your artistic view. Now what I might also consider is maybe like keeping the background is the same. So we could maybe change the colors of this guy. We could even make, you could even add like a brown color here. So we could just grab a rectangle triangle shape. So I'm gonna go to graphics, or maybe let's do square. Let's do all, and let's get rid of that. So we can see our shapes. And then we can simply put it somewhere here and make it bigger. And I want to send it all the way to the back. And let's change the color to the color of this guy, too. Yellow of this guy is plain white of the background to our brown color. So I'm gonna grab also the background and I'm going to make sure that it has the right background color like that. Maybe let's just quickly change this piece of text as well. I'm not so Rome or maybe something like see the best of Rome, something like that. So yeah, there we go. We got a very, very simple tri-fold brochure. I know it's not the most engaging in designing the world, but I just wanted to show you how you can create a brochure like this one. And I think it's really important to understand which page is the first one? Which one is this? The last one? Which one is which side is the is the center side? Which elements go to the outside? Now, it's a tri-fold brochure. It might be a bit difficult to understand it now at the beginning. But once you give it a, give it a few clicks, I think, I think it's going to become so much easier to work with. 25. Create an Instagram Carousel Post: Now what? I thought that since we started with an Instagram post project, I felt that we can maybe like finish within Instagram project. So I thought that we might create something like an Instagram carousel. And of course in Canada you can do that. So well, if you don't know what Instagram carousel is, it's basically like a series of posts that can be a drag from left to right. Well, basically they look like regular Instagram post, but you know, It's something like a, like a gallery of images that can be scrolled from left to right. So humans like Canva, I'm going to just click on this plus symbol and I'm gonna type in like Instagram Carousel. Well, as you can see, we got this carousel Instagram post template right here. So I'm just going to click on it. And I thought that we might create something like healthy diet Instagram carousel. But before we do that, there's just the one new thing that I would like to add to our projects. And that is like searching for color palettes. So if we go to Google and then we just search for Canada color pallets. You can see that we've got this first search result, color palettes. And in here we can simply search for color palettes based on a specific keyword. So I'm going to type in something like healthy diets. And we got to know basically colors that can work good with that specific theme. So I do like this one. It looks, it looks nice, it looks lively. And this one also looks nice. I think it looks okay. It's even called healthy breakfast. So what we could do here is we could simply click on it. So what I would like to do right now is I would like to build out a color palette or a color system with these colors in mind, like in my project. But I think that creating color palettes is a pro version, but we can find a workaround if we're just working on a free version. So what I'm gonna do is I'm simply going to create four rectangles in my project. So I'm gonna go to elements. And I'm just going to grab the, this simple square and I'm going to duplicate it once and then twice and then third time. Now we can simply grab each of these. Well, we're going to have to catch them one by one. So now we can go back to Canva colors. And I'm simply going to copy this color. So I'm just going to click on it and it's basically copying the hex code. And I'm gonna go back to Canva. And in here, I'm just going to give it another color. As you can see, we got like document colors right here. I'm just going to add a color and I'm going to paste that color in like that, the copied one that I'm going to select the next rectangle, square and go back to, and then go back to kinda colors. Here. I'm going to copy this color and go back to Canva. And I'm going to change this color and I'm going to paste that in. So now we've got two colors. So the third square, go back to Canva colors and copy this beautiful yellow color. Go back to Canva. And again, add the color just by pasted it, pasting it in, and then go back to Canva colors. And let's copy the last one. Go back to Canva. And I'm going to simply add a color, paste that in. And we basically have our, our colors right here. We also have this plain black and white, which is okay, which is a good thing. I want to have them. Now the downside of this approach is that if we were to remove all these elements, I'm just going to cut them out and then go back to our document. You can see that these colors are basically gone. So unfortunately we have to keep them handy. So maybe we can simply just like make them significantly smaller just so they don't obstruct our view. I'm going to put them somewhere here like that and something like so. And the last one is going to go somewhere here and we're gonna make it significantly smaller. This would be basically our color palette. We are keeping it in. So then when we go to our documents, document colors, we're going to see our colors being displayed still here. Now, it's not the best solution, but, you know, if we want to create a color palette with without the professional, the paid account, this is what you could do. Now that we have our color palette ready. We could simply maybe now try to find a like a font combination for our project. So I'm gonna go to the text and I'm going to add a heading. Let's for starters, maybe, since it's gonna be like a healthy happy diets, something like that. Maybe for our accent in form, we could find something like boot more playful like a script font. So let's try to find something. Let's try this guy. Let's add this. Let's click on this. Script is handwriting tag. And in here we get different, different script fonts. And I think that this one, this might be, I think it really, it looks really nice. This is called apricots, so I'm just going to type that in. So apricots would be our accenting font. So now let's maybe clone that and let's add like a simple font for titles and maybe even for body text. Let's, let's keep it a bit more simple. I mean, we already have a very funky font here. So let's for our like maybe subheadings or titles or body tags. Let's keep things a bit more simple. So let's go to maybe not corporate, but let's try something like san-serif and let's try this lizard san-serif, it might be good for headings. I don't think it's gonna be great for body text. So maybe let's, let's try something like another is a font. I've seen it, Open Source Sans, but open source. This one right here. And it really looks like it's gonna be great for both body texts and headlines because it has like a lot of light here inside the well, the individual letters. Even if it's like smaller like that, it's still readable because the letters are kinda like wide and there's not too many. Well, as I said, there's a lot of light inside these single, single letters. So I think that's going to look good. So I'm just going to type in open source like that. Maybe let's do the same with them with our body text. So let's add a little of body text and let's change that to again, open source. And let's align it to the left. I don't need any line. Let's make it a bit smaller. Let's look something like 16. And then I'm just going to put it somewhere down here. So these two elements, so the fonts and these small simple colors would be basically our like, our design system. Now if you want, you could maybe like add a black color here. Just to know show or keep it, keep it handy just to show someone with whom you are working on this project that blacks should also be in this, in this document. And this guy is gonna be just plain old white like that. But I think that it might be a good idea if it has like a simple line. So let's do one. Let's make it black. So then when we grab these elements, we can even nicely. Let's just try to tidy up. I'm going to simply nicely spread them around. Of course, it would be a good idea to keep it handy. But at the same time, we don't want these guys to obstruct our view. So maybe let's try to add a few pages. Maybe like that, that should be enough. And then if we just grab all of these elements and I'm going to just cut them out. And then I'm going to put them like somewhere here. So this can be like our, let's call it design system, like that. And still, when we go to our document colors, you can see that these guys are here. This is our color palette. So even though our first page is blank, we still have these colors on this color palette because we've created our little design system here on the last platelets called the design system. So actually I think it's a pretty, pretty important thing to do when you're creating your elements. And if you want to all your designs and you'll want to keep them consistent. So I think it's always a good idea to keep a page like that. And again, if you don't have a Pro version of Canva, you can simply just create an additional pages within your document where you can keep your design system elements. So now that we have the fonts, we've got the colors. We can basically move on to actually start designing our Instagram post carousel. 26. Add the First Instagram Carousel Post: So let's start with adding a background to our Instagram post. So I'm going to maybe add like, let's see, maybe let's start with this guy right here. And what I wanna do is I want to add some text on the left and the image on the right, and maybe some like decoration elements, right? Let's maybe start with adding some text. So I'm going to add a heading. And I'm going to type in something like three healthy meals. Because the idea behind this carousel is that I'm gonna be presenting like three ideas for a healthy breakfast, lunch, and dinner. So three healthy meal meals. And let's try to find our font. It was called apricots. This guy right here. And we're gonna make it significantly smaller and push it, maybe somewhere here. Then we can simply just clone this guy. And I'm going to change the font to open source. And so it's this color right here. Maybe let's try semi bold and let's type in something like eat, well, feel good. Something like that. Maybe. I'm going to put it somewhere here. And then let's add some little bit of body text. And let's make it smaller. And let's do again open source, but this time just some regular text. And maybe I'm just going to quickly grab some Lorem Ipsum. So as you can see, I'm again on the mid-20s Ipsum page and the only the only healthy food epsilon that I can find is a tuna Ipsum. I think it was somewhere here. Let me just quickly try to find it. This guy right here. So I'm just going to copy it and go back to Canva. And here I'm just going to paste that guy n, make sure that it's nicely aligned to the left. And maybe we can make it just a bit bigger and maybe increase the line height ever so slightly. Here at the bottom we can again just clone this guy because right now I just want to type in something like I want to add them, the Instagram handle. So let's do something like, I don't know, three healthy meals, something like that. And let's make it just a bit smaller. There we go. So, so far, so good, but it doesn't look all that interest in deposit. So let's maybe add an image on the right. So I'm gonna go to our elements and let's type in something like healthy food. Let's go to photos. And I want to find something vertical like that. And I think that this photo would be okay. I think it looks really nice. Let's make it just a bit smaller. And I'm going to try like inside these Cannabis, maybe just a bit bigger and put it somewhere here. So now what I wanna do is I want to add some ornaments or something like that. So we get some space down here. We could maybe add a nice icon here. So let's type in something like that. That was a nice apple icon. In the graphics department. I like this icon and I'm going to make it white. I'm going to make it smaller. I'm going to put it somewhere here, maybe just for now. And maybe let's try to find like an orange icon as well. This one looks okay, and I'm gonna make it white as well. But this one is going to be significantly smaller and I'm just going to put it somewhere here in the top. Maybe bring this photo a bit to the bottom. You know what, maybe this guy looks a bit too. These guys look a bit too similar. Let's try banana icon. And let's see if we can find something interesting. Now what I like, this one right here, I know it's a paid, paid icon, but for the sake of our project, it'll do. I'm just going to make it significantly smaller. And we get rid of this orange and put it somewhere here to the top. There we go. We can't even see those like checkmarks here. These are that now that the information that actually is showing us that this isn't paid icon. I think it looks okay. So what I'm gonna do here is I'm going to simply remove these guys just a little bit, just so we get some more room here. And maybe what we could also do is maybe add alike can like a piece of background here, like behind these elements. So let's just try to find, let's go to maybe to our shapes. Let's grab the triangle and let's rotate it like that. So let's look in more or less like this. I'm going to make it significantly bigger. Something like this should do. Maybe let's move it to the side, something like that. And of course this photo, well, this guy needs to go to the back, so I'm just going to try to put it somewhere here. And maybe we can move these guys but to the bottom. So now we could maybe try to know like change some colors here. Maybe let's grab this guy and let's try it with this color. It's going to look better already. Maybe we could also just grab this triangle, maybe clone it and try to make it significantly smaller like that. And maybe put it somewhere here. And we could maybe even I'm like try to reverse it. So it looks something like this and make it just a bit bigger and send it backward. And maybe make it just a bit bigger. So it looks something like this. There we go. Of course, if you want, you can change the colors. So we got our palette and we can just play around with these elements. Maybe we could change this background, maybe this text right here. Now we have to change this guy's color as well. We could change the background if you want. We got this color palette. And you can simply test out different, like different color schemes. And you can be sure that all these elements are always going to go well together because we generated, well, Canada generated this color palette for us. Basically, we get this first like Instagram, carousel post. Now we can actually move on to creating an the three healthy meals, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. 27. Add the Remaining Posts: So as you probably noticed, I've just made some cosmetic changes here. I just played around with the background, with the image. But this guy right here, but nothing too drastic. It's all within, like the idea of our designer not flower a color scheme. So let's move on to our second page. And in here, I'm going to just make sure that the background is the same. And we can even grab these two elements. Are these two? Or maybe even for what? Let's just grab these two triangles and I'm going to just paste them inside here. And now I'm gonna go to our elements. And let's try to find for something like, again, like food may be because I want to have a nice photo, but this time maybe let's try to find just horizontal. And this one looks, this one looks nice. Let's try to find something like for breakfast. Maybe let's see this one. It looks okay. So let's put it somewhere here. And now what we could do is we could simply just grab maybe these guys, like these three elements and paste them. Not these guys. I just want this guy, this guy and this guy, I'm going to copy them. And I'm going to paste them right here and put it somewhere here. And I'm going to leave this three happy meals, healthy healthy meals, Happy Meal, McDonald's Happy Meal wouldn't be that healthy wooded. So here I'm just going to type in something like number one, something like healthy breakfast. There we go. And again, I want to make sure that it's nicely aligned to the left. And I think that this automatic list has kicked in. I don't want it to be automatic list slow. Let's try to do something like this and align it to the left. So now we can maybe move this guy somewhere here. And this guy is somewhere here. And since we have some room down here, we could add an icon. Maybe we could try to find something like a, I don't know. Let's try to find something like a plate. And let's go with graphics. And let's add, Actually, I come like that. And maybe let's grab this icon and let's make it white. And let's put it maybe somewhere here. And I'm going to make it significantly smaller and I'm going to put it somewhere here. There we go. So now we can simply repeat this understanding and create healthy, healthy lunch and then healthy dinner. So again, I'm going to grab my triangles. So these guys right here, I'm going to copy them and I'm going to grab my page and at the same background. But this time when we paste these guys and let's maybe change some things about this. This YLDs ornaments, this decoration. So let's grab this guy and put it maybe somewhere here. So it looks more or less like this. Now again, I'm going to add a photo first. So let's do something like lunch maybe. And I want this guy to be vertical. This image, I want it to be vertical. This one, it looks nice, although it looks kinda like a party lunch or something like that. Let's try to find something, maybe like a homemade launch or something like that. Maybe let's go with this one. This one looks okay. So again, I'm going to put it somewhere here and maybe make it just a bit smaller. And then again, we can grab these pieces of text, going to copy them, paste them somewhere here, and maybe put it here to the side, maybe somewhere here like that. And let's type in healthy lunch. And let's make it the second recipe here. And again, we can maybe know what, maybe let's move this guy here to the bottom because it's quite empty down, down here. And again, in here, we could add like a lunch. Maybe let's add, let's add this icon right here, and let's just put it down here, something like that. Make it maybe just a bit smaller. Somewhere here. This should be alright. The last one, this guy right here. That's gonna be our healthy dinner. So again, I'm going to copy those guys, those triangles and I'm going to paste them here. And maybe we could try to move them some lumped, something like this as so again, maybe this time let's add a photo at the bottom. So let's go with the horizontal photo and let's go to photos. But maybe let's do something like dinner. And maybe let's enter this photo. And of course it needs to go here. So I'm going to put it. Down here like that. And again, let's grab the pieces of text, copy that, and let's paste it somewhere here. And maybe something like that. And this guy is gonna be healthy dinner like that. And let's make it just a bit bigger. And then let's add an icon. Know what, let's just find a dinner icon. Let's see what we are going to have graphics. And maybe let's go with this one and let's make it white like that. I'm going to put it somewhere here, or maybe let's actually maybe try to give it a different color. So let's try with this one. It might look just a bit interesting. Let's actually maybe try to add the same color with these elements just to make things a bit more interesting, this guy as well. So let's change that color and same for these guys. So this one and this one, and let's maybe make this guy just a bit bigger. So it looks something like that. Just so we have like Malawi, It's a bit like then more dynamic. It's a bit like livelier, so to speak. So I'm going to also add another page. So I'll just cloned this design system right here. I'm going to change this to like, like end this page. Of course we could change this guy to dinner, this guy to lunch. Just for organizational purposes. This guy is gonna be breakfast and this guy is going to be like simply title in our end, beige is going to look a bit similar to our like the title page. All we could do is to just grab all the elements that we have here and copy them. And I'm going to paste them somewhere here. Now of course what we could do, I don't think pasted correctly. Of course we could just change this text is text to something like contact us, maybe like that. And again, I want it to go to the left, so like that. And we could simply just, of course, we need to change the color, background color to this guy. And we can change the photo, we can change the icons. And maybe I'm also going to just change the position of these elements. Or they could look more or less, maybe like this, something like that. But maybe let's grab this guy and put it somewhere here. And I'm gonna change the photo. So let's go to something like food. But let's try to find just some photos and vertical photos. Let's grab maybe this one. This one looks nice. I'm gonna get rid of this. And we're going to put this photo maybe may be somewhere here. Why not? And I'm gonna get rid of this banana icon, this Apple icon. I guess it can stay. It looks nice. And maybe I'm going to grab that orange icon. And let's go to graphics. And let's try to find a nice orange icon. Maybe this one right here, and I'm going to change its color and maybe put it somewhere here and send it backward. Maybe let's send it backward one more time and make it smaller. And let's make it look more or less like this, something like that. This should be enough. So there we go. This is how you can create a, well first like a sphere, a very simple design system. And if you want to create a like a Instagram carousel post for you, then you can do it like that. And of course, if you ultimately want to download your, your Instagram Carousel project, you'd have to go to the Share option, then go to Download. And as you can see here, we've got this all pages option, but of course, I don't think you would want to download unless you want to the design system page. So I will just uncheck that, click on Done and then go to download. But notice that since we are using some paid elements here, you'd have to have Canva pro to download your project with those paid elements. If you do not, you'll be good to go. You can just download your project as a zip file. And once you unzip it, you will see all your PNG files inside. So there you go. This is how you can create an Instagram carousel post. I hope you'll like this design and that you will definitely practice yourself in creating these kinds of projects. 28. 7 Fundamental Rules Of Graphic Design: Now that you know how to use Canva to create various design and projects, you still might be wondering, okay, but how do I make sure that my design simply looks good? That's a legitimate question, especially if you don't have that like an inborn artistic feeling inside you. I mean, you just cannot let your eye charge what looks good and what doesn't, but don't worry if that's the case. I mean, you can still learn some basics of graphic design that will help you in making your designs at least need, if not simply visually beautiful. Let's take a look at a few rules and guidelines that will help you in making all your design projects look great. And let's start with the composition. All well-designed projects clearly communicate the goal of the design. After all, you want the clients to easily understand the message of the design, right? It's very important to decide what the focal point of your design is and you gotta make it clear. So take a look at this poster design. You can easily find in Canvas. Here, you can clearly understand the message, which in this case is an ad for a party. You can quickly understand it thanks to a few key elements. So the main message is boldly placed in the center of the canvas. Now the font used is big, bold and it's written in all caps. There are actually two typefaces use. Here. I'm going to just for a bigger contrast and also to add an interesting artistic effect. And there's also a strong contrast between the text and the background. So finding and strengthening the focal point is a very important aspect of a well-designed project. It's especially important from an effective communication standpoint. So next up we've got scale and hierarchy. So these are other key elements that can make or break your design. They work together to communicate the importance of the messages in your design. What I'm talking about, the scale, I mean the size, not just of the texts, but also other elements like images, icons, and all other graphic elements that you might want to use in your design. So take a look at this example. It's a typographic poster that has a big bold title. It's the focal point that is written with the biggest size font. Beneath that, there's a subtitle this using a smaller font size, which means that it's a bit less important. And closer to the bottom, you can see another big piece of text that's conveying another piece of important information. That's why it's using a bigger and bolder font. But of course, scale and hierarchy are not just about the text. Let's just quickly take a look at another example. So here we got a big background image and another one at the bottom. Here you can see how images can work with text to make the message clearer and design more attractive. I got to say that I love symmetry. What InDesign is unintentionally balance. I just can't help but notice the parts of it that, at least in my view, should be more to the left or more to the right. No symmetry. Or to put it, in other words, a well-thought-out balance of your design is one of the most obvious aspects that can show the professionalism of the designer. In this first example, you can clearly see the horizontal symmetry of the background elements and the vertical symmetry of the pieces of texts. Of course, not all projects have to be that neatly organized. When you're working on a project that is a bit more playful or artistic, you can go for a more asymmetrical composition like the one in the next example. So this is an art fair poster design. You can, again find in Canva. Here you can see the biggest pieces of texts being put on the left. Now, the less important information is being put in the bottom. And the graphic elements are in the center and in the top right. And even those graphic elements are not symmetrical because of the subject of the poster definitely makes it acceptable. So in a nutshell, you should generally try to make your design symmetrical. You should keep the distances between the elements proportionate, especially when you are using lists. And you can experiment with the asymmetry only if the design subject allows it. We also got to talk about accessibility. Which is a really important aspect of graphic design. Especially if you're creating more like quote unquote practical products like business cards or posters or brochures. If you want your message to get through, it needs to be easily understandable and readable. And there are multiple ways of doing it, and the most important ones are using contrast. So be sure to make the text readable by putting it on a background that simply facilitates that. So the light coloured tags to it would be best visible on darker background and vice versa. So choose the right size. I mean, try not to make the text and icons too small. So they are easily readable for people with not simply poor eyesight. And it's also important to create the right separation between the text and the elements that are in the background. And that will help people simply read the message. So don't make new design easy to understand for all people is an extremely important factor to make your project effective. So next up, we've got consistency. If you want to create a professional designs, you have to make them consistent. There is nothing more unprofessional than a design that uses different colors or fonts for the same or a similar elements. To keep your design is consistent, be sure to use the same typeface and font for the same pieces of text. Headings, sub-headings, buttons, et cetera. Also use the same colors for the same elements and use the complimentary images. So those are the images that have a similar field to them. So always try to keep your design elements within one design idea. It's very important not to overuse completely different type faces. I mean, try not to use more than two. Don't use too many colors. Of course, unless that's permissible by the project subject. And you similar images. You also got to talk about whitespace. And I know that some people think that whitespace is just some kind of emptiness. And it's only showing that there should be something there. But there isn't like there's something missing. And that's why they try to stop as many pieces of texts or graphic elements because they want to show or simply advertise as much as possible. And let me tell you, that's a huge mistake. Whitespace is a specific design element that serves a purpose of organizing the design elements and thus making the project better readable. So to make it more understandable, Let's have a look at the alley express side. You can see right off the bat that if designer could use more whitespace, right now, there's simply like a lot of clutter. So white-space can be perceived as spacer around. And when it comes to lines of texts to e.g. between graphic elements, that helps the user understand the message more easily. It also makes the design look a bit more professional and like better planned out. So well-designed project will add generous amounts of space between elements, lines of texts, but also around them to create a better user experience. The last tip that I wanted to share with you is the one that you might already know from marketing. And it's called the keep it short and simple or a case for short. Sure enough, you can use it in design as well. So what they shortened the simple design look like, I would say that you shouldn't make your clients try to figure out what you're trying to say or show with your design. The message should be understandable at a first glance. So when designing, think of your clients or your clients, clients, and try to keep the sentences and paragraphs short. Don't use too many distractions, and don't add too many graphics. Even if you're tempted to, after all, you're not designing for yourself, but for the clients. And ultimately, it's their experience and actions or inactions that will determine the effectiveness of your work. I think we've got the composition part of our graphic design theory pretty well covered. We learned about the focal point. We also learned about the scale and hierarchy. We talked about the symmetry. We talked about the accessibility, consistency, whitespace, and the rule to keep your designs shorten simple. So these seven rules should, these composition rules should help you out greatly in making your designs look better? And simply professional. 29. The Basics of Color Theory For Everybody: Learning about colors can be a real journey of its own. There's so much to discover in terms of history, terminology, tools, et cetera, that it can get a bit discouraging at some point. Luckily, you don't have to spend countless hours trying to learn the colors in order to successfully use them in your own graphic design projects. Here's a few tips and guidelines that will help you to always find the right color scheme. Let's first talk about the color wheel. As I think that it can greatly help you in understanding the relations between colors. If you google color wheel, you will find lots and lots of examples. So how can the color will help you? In color theory, you will find something that's called color harmonies enters quiet a lot of them, but we're going to focus on the most practical ones. So first we got analagous, and these are the colors that sit right next to each other on the color wheel. They will always give you a nice harmony, but not without a drastic contrast. For instance, green, yellow, and orange. We also have complimentary. And these are the colors that sit opposite each other on the color wheel. Again, using them, we'll create a nice harmony with a bigger contrast. If your designs need that extra pop, you might want to use the complimentary colors. We also have monochromatic. And this one is at least in my opinion, the most error proof, color harmony. So monochromatic colors will simply be shades of the basic color, which means that it is virtually impossible not to get the monochromatic colors right. Of course, there are other color harmonies like split, complimentary, tetrad, et cetera. And I do encourage you to explore them on your own if you are interested in the subject. But I think that if you just understand these three, you'll be on the right path to understand color harmonies. But there's one more color group that we haven't talked about. A group with special abilities. If you take a closer look at the colors in the color wheel, you will notice that there is no black color, no wide, no gray. Now, these are called the neutrals and they go well together with any other color you can imagine. However, this group consists not only of these three colors. So take a look at this image here. You can find more neutral colors like shades of brown, green, gray, etc. So you can be sure that by incorporating these neutral colors, your designs will not only look good, but the color harmony will stay intact. So understanding these groups of colors and the relations between them should greatly help you in creating beautiful colorful designs. But if that's still too difficult for you, Here's a little shortcut. So let's head over to canva.com. Slash colors slash color palettes. We quickly use this app before, but let's now take a closer look at it. Now, here you'll find lots and lots of ready-made color combinations that you can use in your projects. So click on any of them to see more details about the colors used. So there are literally hundreds of these. And you can search for the ones related to your project simply by entering the color name or a theme name in the search box. Notice that the color palettes don't contain more than four colors. Which is like saying to you, hey, you want to make your design look good. Don't go overboard with colors. And if it's still not enough for you, you can click on a little explore color link and you'll be redirected to a library of color meanings. So just search for color and you'll get lots of information that should satisfy your interests. So to wrap things up, I just wanted to add another small bit of information that you will definitely encounter in your graphic design endeavors. I'm talking about RGB and CMYK color profiles. So to put things simply, RGB is the color profile used in digital screens. Now, each pixel is basically a result of intensity of red, green, and blue colors. And CMYK is the color profile used in printing. These four colors stands for cyan, magenta, yellow, and key, which is basically black. And why is this distinction important? Well, quite often you might be asked by printing house to provide them with a CMYK version of the design file instead of an RGB one. So for that reason, I think it's important to understand this difference. And I truly believe that if you understand just the simple rules and guidelines about color harmonies, neutrals, and color profiles. You'll be on the right path to never creating a design. Poorly chosen colors. 30. Basics of Typography in Graphic Design: The last part of good graphic design is topography. Just like with color, if you start digging into the subject, you will find yourself jumping through a rabbit hole over and over again. So I've decided to keep things simple and share with you only the things you must absolutely be aware of to always be right about your font choice. So first let's understand the very crucial difference between a typeface and a font. So in a nutshell, a typeface is like a family of fonts. For instance, Open Sans, Laura, Ariel, etc. And a font is an instance of a typeface, such as Open Sans, Bold 600 points, Laura italic, 26 points, etc. So a lot of people use these interchangeably, which makes a lot of typographers teeth cringe. So another important distinction can be based on the presence or absence of serifs. Serifs are like those little lines or strokes that are attached to the end of larger strokes of each letter. So based on that, we can talk about serif typefaces obviously. So of course they have those little strokes like Laura, Times New Roman, or Droid Serif. And of course we have sensor of typefaces that on the contrary, don't have those strokes. And or such as Open Sans, lotto or Poppins. However, there is a third category of typefaces, one that can come with or without serifs. And I'm talking about a script fonts. So these guys have a more handwritten look to them and are best used for headings or very, very short paragraphs. It might be tempting to use them for longer passages of text as they simply look nice. But no, that would be a mistake. And that brings us to yet another distinction which is based on the intended use. And I'm talking about display and the body text typefaces. That display typefaces, which should only be used for titles, headings, or very, very short paragraphs. And we have the body text typefaces that can be used for both titles and longer passages of text. So you're probably wondering how you can spot the difference between them. Well, it's quite often named the typeface itself, such as Playfair display, note or sands display, etc. Often their size starts with the 14 Points. And the letters can be very original just to show that this diners creative input. However, if you can be sure if a typeface you chose is intended for headings, just Google its name and simply note check more information about it. You could even verify if it sits under that display category within the Google Fonts repository. So I think we got the font classification pretty well covered. Let's now talk about the space you can put between the letters and between lines of text. So it's a very, very artsy pin to increase the space between the letters of words or short sentences. Now that's called letter spacing, and should be used only as an artistic effect. Add two headings, or again, very short pieces of texts. Now the purpose of an increase in the letters space is to emphasize the significance of the word. And to add an like an eye-catching effect to the text. And the space between lines of texts within a paragraph is called laddering. Or in Canada, line spacing. This one is always used in paragraphs and Canada will automatically try to adjust it based on the text size. I would advise adding generous amounts of line space. It always helps to read the text faster and easier, which is super important for accessibility we talked about before. So having said all that, how can we tell which type phase is the right one for a specific project? So first of all, you should always use the font that is appropriate. So go for a more conservative Serif font. If you're designing something for a lawyer or an accountant, and use a sans serif font if you're designing something for a marketing agency or an NGO. And even experiment with script fonts if you're designing something for a kindergarten or maybe a musician. Of course, these are just humble suggestions and you can let your imagination and professional judgment decide which type face is going to work better in your particular case. So understanding the difference between serif sans serif script fonts, as well as the letter and line spacing will definitely help you in choosing a typeface that will not only complement your designs, but be a key or maybe even a decisive part of them. So good composition, the right colors and fonts. So good composition, the right colors and fonts are the three key elements I strongly believe you should understand in order to create professional designs. Once you do, you'll be able to deliver projects that simply looked right. Even if you have no artistic degree or not, even an artistic soul. 31.
