About This Class

In this course, you will learn to incorporate 3 fundamental hip-hop dance moves within a choreographed routine.  The running man/shuffle, the kick-ball-change, and the roger rabbit are essential hip-hop dance moves for any hip-hop dancer to master. If you are not familiar with those moves, we highly suggest that you take those courses with us prior to this course.

The Roger Rabbit is one of the most important moves you will master because it is one of the basics of hip-hop moves. This move was popularized back in the 1980s. Many pop music artists have used this dance move in their music videos. Learn and master this dance move in this comprehensive course.

Layers Upon Layers

Most importantly, Ceech will teach you how to stay on beat. By the end of the course, you will learn to incorporate all of these layers of moves together.

Repetition is Key

The more you practice, the more natural you will look. The course is designed for you to practice each lesson multiple times.

Explanation Videos & Exercise Videos

With over 20 years of teaching experience, Ceech explains the key elements of each exercise video as well as many potential pitfalls and/or mistakes that most beginning students might make. You will watch each explanation video before watching and practicing its respective exercise video.

Teacher

Hello, I'm Ceech. I love the street dance culture. As an Asian American living in the San Francisco bay area, I have been blessed to learn from many of the dance pioneers (Electric Boogaloos, The Lockers, Rock Steady, MOPTOP) and to be a part of a few historic dance groups (Mindtricks, DS Players, Culture Shock). I'm truly thankful for this life and I want to invite you to come and share this culture.

Transcripts

1. Footwork Vol 1 - Trailer: My name is CJ and I'm running. Today we're gonna learn a combination of different words. First we have the Running Man, we had the kickball change, and then we have the Roger Rabbit. You in the video. 2. Shuffle/Running Man Combo: The first account of our hope, what combination? Here we go. Now, we're going to break it down. So the first thing we'll utilize a review. Remember, this is the Running Man. We're doing different combinations and running. Then I'm going to show you the rise of them share more quickly, explain the first 12. Ready man. It's just a single single belt. We're lifting the right knee up first. So this is n 12. Notice the legs right. So let's turn sideways. Right leg goes up on my end. So 7812. Now let's turn back to front. The three then. Four is just a jumping jack guys. Okay. So 34 out, 34 on that end, the right name in the front. Right is going to demonstrate one more time. I want you guys to focus on just the legs. Arms might be doing something to focus on the lake. I'm gonna count with them 6781234. Notice the three important and the legs crossed, right leg in front. Now let's quickly move forward to the arm. Arm is doing is basically punching down. Okay, so you lift up on end. And 1234, notice that three m and n are crossing this time. That's something different. Okay? So let's do the hardest. Just aren't telling me sending 12 and I messed up. I will leave that in there because it's okay to mess up trying to get 71234. Good. Let's do it together with the leg 4567812 and 34. Good. If you've got that. Great. And we're gonna move on. Move forward. If you don't, pause, rewind it and make sure that first count is good. Right? Now on the thigh. This is going back and write it to the Running Man. There's a 90 degree shift. So then they have Brian demonstrate he's got stuck right at 567812345. Yes. N Notice he saw right there. That's the key point. Okay, so let's go back to the 34. We have three. Pull right on the end. He's jumping in here As it turned this way. This is what we're gonna do. Okay? So you've got to be so you got 35. The five number five. Left leg is in the front. Okay. So that's File. Let's go to six. How's that? Let's go into the sixth one to 65678123456. Good. If you've got delays, Greg, now, slight change in the arms. Previously been punching down, straight down. Now we're punching little bit more to the back pain. He's a little bit of irradiation. It's not too much, but it's enough for you to focus and domain just concrete to k. So that's up to six. Let's do it one more time. Up to the stage with Brian. Said, 123456. Good. Now the 78, we did this in our kick ball change and this is basically kicked into the back. Alright, so this is six, he's gonna go 78. So we have 567. Was thinking, speaking back, right, the right or left leg. This is our left leg, back over seven. Right leg keeping up on the website just slightly slower. So I want you to focus. Don't live with us yet. Focused and just watch quietly. Homework on that 78. There we go. 56 from the top, 12345678. So that's 78. Very important, right? So here's another thing to know. You actually have another course called the jerk that specialize in training you to kick back in jumping forward at the same time, however, this is just basically kick any directions and kicked them for this one would kick into the bag. So here we go. Let's go one last time before we move to the next account, I'm going to do with Brian together. You guys join me if you can. Otherwise, stuffing wine makes you got it. If you're ready, join a typical 67. All right. See you next video. 3. Kick Ball Change Combo: Moving to the second day town, Brian and I are going to do the first account. In the second account, I want you guys to watch this first. Then we're going to break it down for you. Here we go. From there. All right. Here we go. Bring it down, assuming you have the perfect. Now moving into Roger, secondary account and a second, any kind of basically is our kick ball change right from the 781678. And this end is very important, very important. Now, on the one from here, you're going to turn around and face the front. Kicking radical one. That's not kick ball change. So let's do the kick ball change just quickly. Beauty 78123. We'll stop right there. Notice right-hand. We're just going to keep for this exercise are items that are arms down. But I'll Holmes pretending you're pushing like a maybe a really low table or something like you're pushing up, keeping that 90 degrees right there. We're going to keep the house guys. Remember when we did our drilled on the kick ball change two ways of doing it. There's just skiing without the hat. Or you have you have hopping the entire way. It's your choice if future, I'm sure everyone knew why we chose to do the inverse. So let's try to avoid time just about to fall. Kick ball change, 781234. Good. Now here's a variation on the five or six still kick ball change. But it's more like an Indian step. Okay? So here we go right in with demonstrate 5656. Notice that six right there. And they went to the six m, which is really important. So 56, before we have 56, we step it back. If you don't learn this one, we do back go check our kick ball change, kick ball change tutorial and look for the Indian step version. This is the condenser pressure. So 56 is stepping on the front of the statement, filed and very important, inhibit the hips got exchanged. The hip is twisty. That's the sixth. One more time we run it back on the 5656. This time we're going to do it really lightly. You watch that within. Grip the leg around. Okay, let's this demo that real quick. We'll slowly go ahead, Brian will be counted on 512345. Notice that little big amount. Seven tick on the standard again and finished I kick ball change seven and finish up in blocking, call this the Scooby-Doo. So let's try one more time. Brian, you're going to go with your account. Everybody just focused on his leg with 123. And and I know there's so much involved in looking at the legs, right. I want you to remind that if you don't see the leg now in a moment I want to focus on the hip and the hip. The twisting of the hip, very important when we try it. 12345 instance, innocent and good. Focus on the arm will go with the arms are doing okay. Because when he does, his arms strolling is calendar counterclockwise for Catherine, his body, lower body twisting this way, but this way, That's how you can get the leg around. Okay. So focused on the arms. Go ahead, Brian. One. 23456. Okay. Good. If you guys all have rewinding, play it again at a slower speed possible this time, right? I'm going to do together from the one, from the one. Here we go. 65. You got it. Great. Converges. If not, no worries. Play back, rewind it. Once you get it, we'll see you in the next one. 4. Roger Rabbit Combo: Okay, that is Brian. I'm going to show you guys the first 38 cast together. Firstly, count all the way to third term, then bring it down for you guys. Go back 67. As you know, the 30 account is Roger Rabbit. And it's a basic round robin. However, if you guys noticed this swinging side to side, a little break that down for you real quick. Okay. The first we're going to start with the right leg back through your traditional lettering back. And wanted to demonstrate 67812. Now M3, M4 knows where he is right now. Okay. Now N3, he's gonna book, he's going to start traveling and 34. Okay. So let's try it one time and he's going to do it at his picture accountant, just watch his legs. In 56781234? Yes. Yes, that's right. Now. Everything is safe thing going back, watch, please continue to pull the file and Washington come back. 5678. Perfect. That's it. Let's do it one more time and focus on the legs. And I'm gonna ask you to focus on the arms. 6781234567. Perfect. It's simple. We did it already. If you haven't, if you still need some more work on node Roger, and go back to the route directed tutorial. Again, what we're doing, we're going back right here, not just the orange guys. Remember we talked about it in the video is not only the chest as well. When we go back, you're making this, you're making this arch right here. And uniqueness CDRs, you chest is really forward and your shoulders are back, and it's almost like your arms. Who grabbing, grab. The analogy we used before it was wheelchair. If you've seen the weird shape grabbing the back of the wheelchair, pushing yourself for as you push yourself forward, whom? The chest, the shoulder, those for you making this concave with your chest. One more time just to check an auto loan 78123, all the way to the eight. That's the arms doing. Just to quickly remind you, if you don't do the arms, if you don't do the chest, if you only do the leg, it should be ideal little bit of river dancing and clogging. Real quick bump, right? I've been demonstrating our version of hi Roger Rabbit clogging. It's the same thing as Phil's Single, single array and keep arms like this. And they try to isolate and try and up into the upper body. Six said, really funny to me because it really reminds me of plotting the river dancing. All right, so you've got to have this so you can feel more hit. Okay. 5. Shuffle/Running Man Combo #2: I just want to show you the first 48 counts again. We're gonna do it on top, to the bottom, and we're gonna break it down afterwards. Here we go. Here we go. It's a cow or a quarter cup, is basically the running man. Can call it sidestepping or sidewalks, but basically it's doubling up. Running Man. Let's just do the double. It's a railing in front branch going to demonstrate real quick. 67812. Notice he's twisting right one, right on the one. I'm going to go front of you. He's twisting this way. So the code, the right child is pointing to the right side of the hill, is going to the left side. So rivaling jump on one, it's one and two. Notice how the traveling. Again, go back to our running manager tutorial. There's a section on that sidesteps, you're gonna get that. Okay. Let's do it one more time. Just the length up to four because it's double, double then single. 6781234. Good. Ones should be review if you'd like that. The only thing that changes a little bit on the bottom right arm rather than one for similar we're doing arm. We're looking towards where we're going. And we'll go into the left side, the left. And it's going to go one. It's a 90 degree angle, 9080 on the 3D form, which is going back to the basic punching down. Watch, just the arms. He still do both. Once you've watched part 6781234. Perfect. Was it if you've got that great. 5678 is the exact same thing goes up up up to the side. Let's focus on just the lake on the five coming back 23456 NSAIDs and excellent. If I had one more time histology, we'll focus on the arms because you've drawn it to the right side. He's looking to the right. Here we go. 12345678. Perfect. I'm gonna do with Brian. Just the last eight Calc two together. We've got the arms and the head, shapes. And perfect. 6. Final 8-Count Combo: Hey guys, why don't I do the entire routine is finding towns altogether without the music when new accounts, and then we're going to break it down for you. So what you notice is if you've seen a previous tutorial, that last eight count is a great way for us to kind of wrap things up, catch our breath, and repeat if you want. Okay, so we've finished our last income. Which ones are? Which is our running and going to the side, 78. And now we're going to jump on the right side and the current is on the left side. Here the jump out and look away. Look away. Now he is. Notice how it's new national debt, why your stability is really strong. Looking with the one, you hold the tube, look at the total column three, boom, hold the fall than one person. In this case, we decided previously at Bradley be the first person. He's Neal file is then signal the file slack on in the background the seven. And then to the camera on an eight. You could choose to Kelvin. You could choose to do a different kind of pose, whatever you like. It's up to you to be creative. So as you've got that great challenge, this time I'm showing you three challenges as well. Do it three times. 190 beats per minute. Why am one thing? And then finally, won 30. Get you there. 10. Last Tips: Guys, thank you guys for joining us with Brian and myself fish where he had to get down. Remember guys, the key really is to have fun and danced. A lot of fun when you're, when you're sharing experience. But the French call someone up, link up together and then join forces. It definitely has. That really reminds me of when I first started. It's a lot harder when I'm just by myself in my room or at my house with a video or with a tape or something like that. It's definitely a lot more fun with a partner. Now, one of the things I do want to mention is that we're gonna try to make this an ongoing thing. So do look for in next series coming up and we'll look forward to seeing you guys there.
