About This Class

This class will go over how to crochet a heart. From getting the materials to sewing on the accessories, I will guide you through the process and show you stitch-by-stitch how to make it.

Techniques and other useful things you may learn from this class include:

- Learning how to connect two crocheted pieces

- Learning how to decrease to make a triangle shape

- Learning how to sew gaps closed

- And hopefully have fun

This class is for students who already know the basics of crocheting and know how to do single crochets, increases, and decreases. It is a beginner-level pattern and the most difficult thing it will require is you having to weave yarn through some stiches.

What you will need for this class is a 4 mm hook, yarn in the color of your choice, and stuffing. I also have a written pattern with which you can find by going to my website CrochetCraftsByBre.com.

June And Ro Crochet

Teacher

Hi, I'm Bre. Crocheting is my main passion in life. I started about eight years ago in middle school and have been doing it ever since. It's one of my major stims and is the best way to calm myself down.

I love to create new projects and design patterns. All of my other interests get sucked into crocheting like a tornado. So I hope you enjoy the end result of that.

My whole brand is called JuneAndRoCrochet because of my cats Juniper and Rowan and my love of crocheting.

I have an Etsy shop which is where most of my ideas and projects come from. I frequently get requests for custom orders, which fuels my creativity and allows me to create new patterns from scratch. I have a lot of different items for sale over there, so check it out if you'd like here.

1. Introduction: Hi, I'm Bree. And today I'll be teaching you how to crochet a heart. I have been crocheting ever since 2014 when I was in middle school. So I know my way around a hook and yarn. How this class will be structured is in parts with each part being a different piece of the heart. I ordered it like this: Getting my materials, making the first circle, making second circle, connecting the circles, continuing the body of the heart, and finally stuffing and closing it up. I've placed this pattern in the beginner category because personally I don't feel that it's very complicated. The hardest thing you'll have to do is weave yarn through some stitches. I hope that I can explain everything properly. And if you aren't able to understand something, feel free to reach out and ask me for further explanation. I'm happy to help and I would love your feedback. Also, I recommend turning on captions. I have a bit of an Appalachian accent and I'm soft-spoken by nature. And as someone with auditory processing disorder, I know how difficult it can be to process information without subtitles. Alright, so that's everything I wanted to go over and I hope you enjoyed the class. 2. Getting the materials: For this project, you will need a four millimeter hook, a pair of scissors. some yarn and some stuffing. 3. Making the 1st circle: Okay, so to start off, we're going to be making the first circle. This is what it looks like and I will be showing you how to make it. So you want to get your four millimeter hook and your yarn, wrap it around and make a magic circle. And then you want to put six single crochets into it. Once you're done, you'll want to pull it tight and then continue on. We're going to be doing an increase all around. So at the end of it you'll have 12 stitches. Now we're going to be starting our third row. But before we do that, we want to go back to the little tail and make a knot in it. That way it doesn't come loose. Now for this round we'll be doing a single crochet, then an increase all around. So by the end of it you should have 18 stitches. For our fourth round, we're just going to be doing a single crochet all around. For our fifth round, we're going to be doing a single crochet all around again. So once we're done with those, you should see that there are clearly two rows of single crochets. So in the next stitch we're going to be doing a slip stitch, and then snipping off a pretty decently long tail. And that will finish up your first circle and we'll be moving on to the second circle next. 4. Making the 2nd circle: Alright, so we're going to be making our second circle. So we're just going to the exact same thing we did for the first circle. Do a magic circle, put six single crochets in there and then just follow the exact same thing we did before. Now as we're finishing this, we're not going to do a slip stitch or cut it off. We're just going to leave it as it is. 5. Connecting the circles: Okay, so now that you have both your circles made, you want to get your first circle and go into the slip stitch that you did and make a single crochet. And what we're going to do is just go around the whole first circle doing single crochets. And then we're going to connect it back to the second circle again, and do single crochets all around that until we get to where we started. Alright, now you can see you're just going to make sure you have all the stitches in, you don't want to skip one because then it's just going to mess up the body. So skip that one where it has a single crochet and go into the next one. And then just go all around. Now that that round is done. We're going to sew the gap in, so there is a gap between the two circles and we don't want that. So we're going to take that long tail from the first circle. And we're just going to weave it through the stitches to close the gap. So just stick your hook through there into the stitches like I'm doing. And take your tail and pull it through. There should be four clear spots that you can stick your hook in if you look carefully. But if not, just try your best to close the gap. Once you have that done, just pull it tight and we're going to tie a knot so it doesn't come loose. So just go through one of the little lines that you made and pull the tail through, pull it really tight again, and then tie a knot. I like to do a double knot just to make sure it doesn't come loose. And now that your gap is sewn in, we can continue with the body. So make four single crochets. And now we're going to do a decrease. Then four single crochets again. And then another decrease. So we're just going to continue that pattern until we get back to the beginning of the round. 6. Continuing the body of the heart: All right, so continuing the body, we're just going to do single crochets all around for this round. The pattern that you'll notice when making the heart is that one round will be just single crochets. And then the next round we're going to decrease it. And the next round, single crochets. Next round, we're going to decrease it. For this round, we're going to be doing three single crochets and then a decrease. And we're just going to continue that all around. For this round, we're just going to be doing single crochets all around. And for this round we are going to be doing two single crochets and another decrease. And we're just going to be continuing that all around. And for this round, we're just going to be doing single crochets all around. For our final round, we're just going to be doing one single crochet and then a decrease all around. And we're going to pause after that to stuff it because if you do it any more than this, then it makes it really hard to get the stuffing inside. 7. Stuffing and closing the heart: Now we're going to stuff our heart. So when stuffing it, you'll want to make sure that you get into the two circles first and then just slowly fill it up from there. Now the key with this is you don't want to stuff it too much because then it will show through the stitches. But you want to stuff it enough to where it will hold its shape. Now that you're done, you want to take your hook and go back into the stitches. And we're going to do single crochets all around for this round. For your final round, we're just going to do decreases all around. After you're done with that, we just want to go in and do a slip stitch. And then we're gonna take our scissors and cut a pretty decently long piece off. Now taking our hook, we're just going to weave it through the stitches and pull that tail through. And we're going to pull it through all the final six stitches. Pull tight and it should close the hole. Now pull it tight and then tie a knot. We're going to take our scissors and just stuff that inside of the heart. And now you're done. Just kinda play around with it and make sure this stuffing is spread out evenly. 8. Conclusion: All right, and that will conclude the tutorial for how to crochet a heart. I hope you enjoyed it and found the information useful. And if there's anything that you didn't understand, feel free to reach out to me. I'm happy to answer any questions you may have.
