1. Welcome to 'How to Create a Word Coloring Page' workshop: Hello, My name's Kate, Pullin not like to welcome you to our create a word coloring page workshop. I've been creating coloring pages. Another paper graph projects for many years, and one of the things I really enjoy doing is working with people who were at the beginning of their creative journey. So this workshop is for people who have never created a coloring page before. Perhaps you're worried that you don't have design experience or that you don't feel the ovary artistic. That doesn't matter. This workshop is for people who are absolute beginners on. We're going to be using free tools and APS to create these word coloring pages, so you don't need to worry that you're going to be making a big cost investment in things that you might not need at a later date. My word coloring pages are great because they're so versatile. We can use word coloring pages to make motivational, motivational phrases affirmations. We can use word coloring pages to make a gift for someone with a special birthday message or celebration message. We can also use word coloring pages to create swear reword covering pages just to let off a bit of steam. Another good thing about word coloring pages is the emphasis is on. The words, as on the text is no. We don't need to worry about creating lifelike images or or wonderful artwork to create a word covering page, because we're focusing on the words foremost. So in this workshop you will need a mobile device, either in the android or an apple with a stylist without a status that's up to you. You'll also need access to a desktop computer, which has Internet access. And as long as you have a songs you have access to those two things. You're being good to go. So all that remains for me to say is, I really hope you enjoy working through this workshop. Do post image off your finished word coloring page below so that we can see what you're doing on Jump onto the next video and let's get started 2. What we need to get started: Before we go any further, we're going to just dig in a little deeper and take a look at word coloring pages and see what they actually are on, how they how they're compiled and how they actually work. So what better place to take a look than Pinterest? So I'm looking at inspirational coloring pages on Pinterest on. You see that there are a wide variety of different types of covering page available to us. There are words coloring pages like this one here in the center, where the actual words have bean decorated. And this is on artistic covering page, where someone obviously with a lot of talent, has created through the patterns in the words here on day on here on then other covering pages. Ah, bold and striking, such as this one here, where it's got the word on top of a patterned background on the letters in the words really jump paint on the background simply performs a backdrop for the for the words another one here, where we've got words on top of a patterned background. This one here that the words formed the decoration and words are the are the pattern. If you like. So there's There's a huge a huge variety off, different types, off coloring page, with different types of patterns and different types of messages. However, this is the type off coloring page that we're going to be producing in this workshop on you see, it's made up with a pattern with the words on top of that, and that's literally how this page is created. First of all, we're going to create a pattern on. Then we're going to create the words and the words go on top of the pattern on that is the finished page, so it's very straightforward before we actually go in and start creating the pattern. I just want to talk a little bit about who it is, who's going to be coloring your page, because that will dictate the type of pattern and the type of coloring page you're going to produce. If you're producing the covering page for yourself, this is gonna be really simple because you're going to know your own preferences, and you'll know whether or not you like really detailed patterns or big spaces when your coloring. But if you're creating a page for other people, then you know Perhaps that's not so straightforward. So I need to think about who it is you're going to be creating the the page for, and perhaps the purpose of the page. Some word coloring pages will have motivational or inspirational phrases. They will have affirmations and and other things that people perhaps will ponder and reflect on when their coloring. So for those pages, you can have quite detailed backgrounds, perhaps because people will be set of thinking and contemplating. Is there during the color coloring other pages? Perhaps just something funny. It is a quick coloring page that you're doing this to wish someone happy birthday or something like that. So in that case that you might want to have a bigger pattern pattern on the right, Well, actually start creating the patterns that will be the backdrop for a coloring page. 3. Create your first pattern: in this video we're going to look at creating the patterns is going to form the draft. In this video, we're going to look at creating the pattern that's going to form the backdrop to our word coloring page. We're going to cover collider paint, which is the app that we're going to use to create the pattern. We're going to look at the settings and adjustments that we need to make in order to make a good looking pattern. We're obviously going to create some patterns on. We're going to save them to our device, ready to make our first covering page. So the app that we're using is called collider paints, and if you don't already have it installed on your device, then you will find it available for free in both the Apple IOS store, on also the Google Android store on. This is the app that you're looking for collider paints on, Asai said. It's a free, so if you want to download that and then open it on your device on the first page that you will see when you open, it will be a page that looks a bit like this, but without the saved patterns and you'll see that we have the bottom left hand side. We have where we can create a new drawing on. On the right hand side, we have the cork icon, which is where we set some of the settings. So I'm just going to click on the Cog icon on the right turn side on. We'll see. We have preferences that we can set on the key ones here. We want the resolution to be high on, Issa says. It's sharper, but slower. If that causes a problem on your device, then set it to a lower resolution. But try it on the higher one because the high one will give us the better quality patterns in the better quality friends on. We want the exported size to be 400% on what that means is it would be 400% of our screen size. So again, the bigger pattern that we have, the more flexibility that we have when we're actually creating our coloring page. So those in settings that we need to make on this particular page just tap to close that window and then click on new drawing to open a new drawing. So click on new drawing and you'll see what happens is a new little icon opens up here, and in my case, it's called Entitled 17. I know need to click on that too much dope in it. So a tap on it on open on it will open the drawing board, and this is what we're actually going to be working on now. On the bottom left hand side. We have some settings here which will help us change the way that the coloring that the pattern is going to look and feel on. Then we have undo and redo feature. We can also edit the lines, and that's something we look at a little more detail and then save on help. Let's go back to the left hand side of the bottom. Left on. You see, the first option we have is color. Ah, we can change the color off the lines, which will form the pattern that we're creating. I'm going to set this to Black Andi for coloring pages. We almost always wants a a black and white pattern. That's whole point about. We create the black and white pattern on the person. Then that's the color we can then change the thickness of the line and it by default. It comes to medium thickness on. You can change it, so it's like super thick or fair. I'm sort of changing it back to that near where itwas to start off with. And you can. Once you started creating some patterns, you got to feel for the type of look that you like. Andi, You can create patterns with thick or thin lines, depending on what you personally like. We can then look at the background, so click on backgrounds on at the moment. You see, we got a bit of a great background going on here, so just turn that right the way up. Eso we've got no a white background on now. The last one to recut is symmetry. And these are the different patterns on each one of thes options will create a different type of pattern by reflecting the lines that we write that we draw on the page. Really, The best way to explain that is to illustrate him on I suggest that you have a go as well. Well, while I'm what I'm talking. So I'm going to use the slugger, the one on the top right hand side, and it looks like a series of flowers, six petal flowers. So I'm going to click on that and you'll see a grids has opened. Now on my page. I'm just going to draw something on here. I'm just going to just roll a few lines like this, and you'll see that each time. My drawer line. It's reflected on on the pages reflected to create a pattern on the page on I can pinch in to zoom in. And personally I like to work is close. Second helps me create tidy it idea. Lines on you can just draw different shapes to build up the pattern. What you will notice is that the application actually has a automatic smoother. So if your lines a little bit wobbly, it will smooth them out to some degree. And that's really handy if you're not Aziz, precise as you could be when when drawing certainly handy for May. The other thing when I'm creating patterns that I do is I make sure that I enclose any open shapes like this so disclosed, but it doesn't matter if it doesn't perfect, because by the time we've got this at a scale that someone's going to be covering in, they're not going to see that my line didn't quiet match up here on. I also want to make sure that I don't have too many big spaces. I want the pattern to be evenly distributed over the over the page, so that is easy as it is, Teoh. Create a pattern, and let's just undo some of these on just just start again. So it's just a Kate of drawing different shapes along the guidelines on you'll see that pattern. A person is then arranged along the different areas off the pattern, so you just continue adding shapes as you want. Teoh. Create your pattern, Andi, zoom in and zoom out to see what it looks like on to make sure that you like what you're doing If you want to. When you think it's nearly finished and you want to see what it looked like without the background grids, you can click the griddles, and that shows you how it will actually look when it's printed on the page. So that looks pretty good to me. What I would do at this stage is just make sure that it's lined up as much as it can be across the top. Here s oh, it's a square on the page because when we save, what we see is what we get. So if it's all off at an angle like that or something, that's what will actually be saved. And of course, we can tidy it up when we start to create a coloring page. But it's actually a lot easier if it's neatly lined up now, and if it needs to be like centered on the page, it's easier to do it here before we actually save. So let's say that I'm happy with this page. Just click on the upload icon and save on, but that's it. It's no saved to the photo section on my device. So, uh, let's go back and switch the grid back on Andi, I'm just gonna undo a couple of things here on going to look at the edit. So let's say that I made a pattern on D made a mistake. Obviously, I can undo like that, but what I might want to do is just to adjust a line slightly. So if I click on edit. You'll see it highlights all the different nodes that make up the lines here. So let's say that I want to just adjust this line here. I just grab one of their for white dots here on. I can move around and you see as I move in it also moves it elsewhere on the page so I could just put it here. Let's say that I want to do something with this so I gotta pick the pick the dots at the end there. Just move that slightly going pick this thing stopped here on Move this one slightly and it allows us to actually edit the lines in a little bit more detail if we want to be more precise when we're placing the different shapes to create our patterns, kick on, draw again to come out of the edit mode on and we're back. We're back to the start. So I'm just going Teoh, do Teoh get back to the starts, go to the symmetry again on Let's have a look at some of these other patterns and see how they work. Some are going to be more suitable for our use than others, so For example, if we look at the very bottom one here, which looks like a syriza swells, that's what he is. A syriza swells. This'll is less think this doesn't produce the types of patterns that we really want for for our coloring page, the ones that are best for our use, other ones where there's lots of overlapping, different areas. So I've chosen the one now, which is on the 1st 1 on the left hand side, on the third row on. And if we use the lines as guides, you'll see again, it creates a very nice and easy looking pattern, which would be a great backdrop for a coloring page. This is going to be a nice, straightforward pattern for people to color on. It will. It will not detract from the words that we put on top. We can make this that's just go back again. We can make this as a bold and a straightforward as we want. So with big shapes like this, maybe just with a little bit of detail in some places or I'm doing again, we can have lots of intricate detail, looks like little shapes and flourishes and things to really make a more challenging, coloring coloring experience for the people who are going to be covering our pages. So just just have a play around on, See what works for you. If you don't like it, just hit the hit the back space. Andi Hiti induced on Try Different a different symmetries on See what types of patterns actually look best for you. What worked best with your particular sort of style. If you're perhaps more precise than may, you may come up with much more intricate patterns. If you think that the people who were going to be covering your patterns are going to suffer like more bold patterns, you may want to go with the big the big shapes but have have a practice how to play around one thing that you can do, which is quite fun, although a little bit random. I'm just going Teoh under to clear the clear the background. One thing you can't switch the grid off guide. Rid off on. Use that as a za way to draw your pattern on. You may come up with something amazing on autumn, or you may come up with something that's absolutely crazy and it's best to do and start again. But if you're feeling that you want to try something different than switch off the switch off the background grid on, see what happens. So the best thing to do now is to actually start creating your own patterns, have a play, arrange and create pattern pattern pattern pattern. It's good to have a variety of patterns to work with. When we actually start creating our coloring pages, save them to your device on, then upload them to your desktop because in the next lesson will be using a patient on desktop to compile are finished coloring page. 4. Prepare the words and compile your coloring page: in this video, we're going to create our very first word occurring page. So we're going to look at Gravitt, which is the application that we're going to be using to create our coloring page. We're going to import one of the backgrounds we created in the previous video. We're going to create the text, which is going to form part of the coloring page on. Of course, we're going to save the files that we have made. So the first thing that we need to do is to go Teoh, grab it dot io, which is the cloud based design platform that we're going to be using to create our coloring page. On your probably arrive a page that looks like this on. Just ignore everything that says here and just click where it says go to designer because this is where we actually want to work on. This would open up the designer window. Now this is a completely cloud based, Internet based platform, so we don't need to worry about downloading. Installing anything onto our computer is all handled online. There is a premium, a premium pro version off graphic designer, which is available However we can do everything that we need with the free version. So it's It might offer you a trial for the designer, but we can work in the free in the free version. The first thing we need to do is to decide what size paper we want to print on on. If we click here, you'll see that we have a variety off sizes available to us, and we're probably going to want either the A four or the U. S. Letter sized paper. Maybe if you're wanting to create a coloring page that's going to be maybe part for greeting card or something, you might want to smaller design. But for today I'm going to pick us letter on, and I'm going to create a landscape coloring page where it is wider than it is tall. So just click on there on this is my canvas that are going to work on on. I'm going to just go up here to the top left on. I'm just going to be juice down slightly the size that were working at the size of the window so that I can actually see the whole canvas in front of me, that that everything is displayed. So before we actually start getting in in creating, it's just have a little look at what the interface and what we actually have available for us. So let's look at the top left hand side. And this is where we have a file and where we can save, download import to place an image. We have our edit modify different views on we have the help. We also have a center part here, which is this is our canvas. Everything that happens on this whites rectangle in the middle is going to form part of our coloring page on then, over here on the left on site, we have a panel which is called layers. If you haven't worked with something that uses less before, it literally is that it is less. Every element we place into this section here will go on to a new lair. And that's good because it means that we can adjust the layers. We can change the orders, we can work on one layer, and it won't affect everything else on our page. So I just quickly illustrate that with a couple of shapes. So if I just draw a rectangle on. If I make that read on, then I'm going to draw a star on top on and I'm going to make that star green you'll see. Now I have my green star on top of the red rank red rectangle on. If I look at the layers panel here on the left hand side, you'll see that I have my my star on top off the rectangle on. If I want to change the order of these, I just click on the polygon moving underneath, and now I have my red rectangle on top of the star. Move it back again. Click on the rectangle. Put it down on now the rectangle is underneath the star, so the order off the layers in the layers panel shows exactly the order of the layers on the canvas that we're working on. So I just want to get rid of these because they don't. They don't play any part in our project. But what I will do quickly before I get rid of this one is you'll see that when we click on an element on our page, we have different menu options appear down here. So if we want to edit something we need to click on it, activate him on will see the difference at its options that we have appear on the right hand side of the page. The next thing I'm going to do is I'm going to create a rectangle, which is exactly the same size is the canvas that we're working on a murder. It's going to be the templates, the template that we're going to use to create our coloring page. So if I go to rectangle, just go to the top, drag it down to the bottom and you'll see that I have. It tells me the size here 11 by 8.5, which is fine on going to make this reds just so that I know what it is that I've got here . So this is exactly the right size for my for my coloring page on. I'm now going to import one of the patterns that we created in the previous video. So to do this, I go to file imports on place image, and if I click on place image, I can choose one of the patterns that I created in the previous video produced this world on open on. This is no presented on the page and you'll see that it doesn't quite cover the background . So what I do know is to select one of these little handles in the corner. And it's important to use the handles in the corner, because when you drag using the handles in the corner, you'll notice that everything moves and it's in scale with with itself where, as if I used the handles on the site, you'll see it's changes the dimension off the off the page. So if I use the handle at the top again, it changes the dimension, and that's not what I want. So I'm just going to go to the undue on Undo it. So we're back it where we were. Andi, I'm not going to grab one of the handles in one of the corner just to make this So it is the it is the right size. The other thing that I'm going to do is I'm going to reduce the opacity of this top layer so I can see the red rectangle. The red templates underneath on this will allow me to make sure that my pattern is centered on the coloring patient for some patterns is really not going to matter at all because there's no obvious center. But perhaps here it might matter, because I've got three shapes here and it might look old if I had 2.5 or something. So by changing the opacity in the appearance section on the right hand site, I can no see how it's going to look on my finished what? When it's when it's cropped to size on, you'll also see that I haven't done a very good job. When I saved it, I didn't have a good job up job off lining up. So it's actually not quite straight. So I can move, change, use this still handle here just to adjust the angle of the page, which will allow me just to square it up a little bit more. So it just looks a little bit better on I'm happy with that. You know, what I'm going to do isn't going to crop the top player, so it fits exactly my red rectangle template on to do that. I'm going to hold down my shift key on click. So no, both of these layers are selected. I can see both of these lesser selected in the lair panel on the left hand side of the page on, If I go to the top menu bar, you'll see I have an option to clip, and if I cook, click on clip, it clicks my eclipse, my pattern. So it's exactly the right size for my coloring page. What I will do know is if I click on this little triangle, it opens up. These are both my less. The first thing I'm going to do is I'm going to change the rectangle land. No, I'm going to change it to rights because it no longer needs to be to be read on, going to click on the image, which is my pattern layer on. I'm going to change the opacity now back to 100%. So here we've got the background pattern. It's no the right size for the coloring page. The next thing that we need to do is to at the text on this again is based straightforward . I just click here to add text on, then drag the text box on my page on. This is where we add the sentiment motivation, saying Whatever is that we want to say. So I'm gonna have today I choose happiness today by Jews Happiness. I probably premature. We're changing the background opacity because I can't really see what I've written. So I'm going to click again on the pattern layer on. I'm going to reduce the opacity back down again so I can see my text, and I can see that I have actually spelt it correctly. Andi double click to highlights the text on. You'll see that this is opened up our editing options for text. So I'm going to just know I'm just going to quickly change the size just to 72 just for now . So it's his biggest possible on that means I need to change this any to click on this box on bond Just Record day. And so it shows, may order my text on again. I'm going to highlight this text on going to center. It's because I like it centered on day just going to change it, so I juice is along one line. Today I choose happiness on. The next thing that I want to do is to change the font, so if we click here, you'll see that the a range of different fonts available to us and these are all Web fonts . I think these are probably from the Google Front library diesel okay for commercial use, so we don't need to worry about using these phones for a commercial project. If that's what we want to do. On the front that I'm going to use is a fun called Spicy Rice. I like this one because it's slightly decorative. It's bold on and it's it's a nice font for coloring pages, so if I just type in spicy rice, you'll see it comes up for May. Just click on that on its Changed My formed. I've got a lot of space here between my between the lines on by might want Teoh reduce this slightly. So to do that, you'll see we have spacing options here on. I might reduce the spacing that we've got here doing to, let's say, 85%. So I just off 75% of I'm going to reduce its it to reduce it to 80%. So that's now changed the line spacing so it's a little bit closer together, thistles Good, but obviously we can't color in there because there's no nothing to color. If I change the font size, the font color, you see it just goes whites. But we want outlines. So I'm going to just change that back again to black for no so that we're working and to create outlines. There's one more step that we need that we need to do on. That's to change these, to change this from a forms into a vector object. Now, don't worry about the technical side of this because it's actually just a case Off writes. Clicking on Convert to Path on. When you do that, it means that your font now has an outline. So we convert to path on. You'll see here. It's got a little blue outline on If I now go to fill on, change that to White on, I go to border on DCI Change the border size. Let's try for you'll see. I now have a on outlines fonts, so my words are no lines, and you'll also see I have the same option that we had when we loaded the pattern. I could know. Grab these handles on, resize the words so they look good on my on my page. What I can't do know is this is no longer text. So if I made a hideous spending mistake or if it, like looked, I wanted actually to have it left justified rather than center justified or something like that, I can't do anything about him. I would have to undo to go back to the text. But when I am happy with the text, then doing this means it's really easy, then, just to adjust the size on and make sure it looks good. So here we are. I've now got my I got my wording, so it looks okay. It's centered on the page. I'm happy with that. My background is still transparent, so I'm not going to click on the background again on going to increase the opacity. I'm going to increase it back to 100% or something you might want to try is actually having it. So it's slightly lighter on. This would depend a lot on the type of pattern you have on the type of words that you have on your page. For example, if you had a pattern that was very heavy and very detailed, but the words were very light and playing and like, a little bit airy. Then you might want to try reducing the opacity down to actually make the words really jumping from the page. But here I've got the outline for the words as well, balanced with the background. The background is quite detailed, in the words of quite chunky, and they worked well together, so I'm reducing that back to 100%. This is This is good. So I mean, it's basically finished. However, there's one thing that I want to do, and I just want to tidy up the edges a little bit on. This is because when people print it on their on their home printer, it might not print, like, quite accurately on my like for them to have a nice edge around their page. So what? I'm going to dio I'm just going to click on the on the rectangle on. I'm going to just change this the size of this very, very slightly. I'm just dragging in just a tiny bit from the edge of the page. You can see the blue line is no showing us where this is just a tiny, tiny, tiny, tiny bit on going to add a new rectangle on top of all of this, which is going to create a border. So because I want this to be at the very top player, if I click on the compound path, which is actually the text Aler, whatever I do know is going to be on top of that. So let's go to shape on a rectangle on. I'm now going to draw a rectangle which fits the background. There we go. I obviously don't want a great big white rectangle, which is covering up my coloring page. So if I go to the fills and if I click on where it says white on and I can no reduce the capacity, so I know just have a border with nothing in the middle. Andi, I'm happy with the way this page looks. I'm happy with the balance between the words in the text on the front, on how it works with the background. So all that needs to happen now is to save the file for printing. To do this, we go to file at the top left hand side. You see, we have a number of options available to us we have file and safe. And if I click on this, this will allow us to save the document as it is currently with the different layers intact . So I just get this unnamed today on safe. Now, if I want to come back and edit this document at a later date, I can do so. It saves everything as I have created it. However, for this purpose, we want to save the documents. So it is high resolution for printing. We're not worried about being able to come back and edit it later. So we want to export ah, high resolution version of this page to print. So to do that, we go to file exports and then export again and you'll see here we have a number off options available to us. We have We can change the format so we could save it. Is a Ping for or Jay Peak for Lincoln Select Ping. Also, this is important that we need to make sure that we have the resolution set at a high level . So we get good quality prints, have a number of different options available to us here, But we're going to select 300 dp I It's important to make sure that we have that that selected. I don't need to worry about the background so I can just go ahead now and export this on. You'll see that it's downloaded to my desktop a high resolution version off this page that I can now go ahead and print. So that's all there is to it. We have created a page that we've made outlines, that we've created a board around the page and everything looks looks good, so we're really ready to go. However, if you wanted to use a script font like you can see here, you'll see that it doesn't look quite writes that where the letters are overlapping is giving us is confusing it, and it's giving us a strange result. So there's one additional step that needs to take place if you want to use a script font or if you want to use a font where letters or elements overlap on, will do that in the next video 5. How to use script fonts: in this video, we're going to look at how we work with script forms. Script funds are along the rage. If you have been traer stores Google images of something that you'll see that script foreigners are all over the place on people like the elegance effect off scripted funds. There's a couple of things to be aware off, however one is, sometimes they can be very, very difficult to read on and with a coloring page. People often want the message to be very obvious. They don't want to be peering at it, trying to work out what something actually says on. So that's That's one design feature about script forts, and the other is, is that they letters overlap, and therefore it confuses where the outline actually goes. So let me explain that in a bit more detail. So we're back at the covering page that I worked on the previous video on. I'm just going to highlight that I'm going to change the forints name to a France Corp Pacific O. Obviously, you could just scroll through on and pick a for Inslee, pick a font. I just happen to know these funds because once I often worked with. I'm going to do the same as I did in the previous video and going to reduce the line spacing toe 80%. Just so it's a little bit closer on and here we go. We got our text. So this is This is fine until I turn it into an outline. And as we didn't last video, I click on Convert to Path on Dhere. We are. We've got the ANC line. Now let me make this a bit bigger and you can see the issue that I'm I'm talking about. The letters overlap on, and it's confused everything because it's outlining each individual letter and not the total shape off the words I'm going. Teoh, change this snow to whites on going to up the order of the border. Sorry, as we had done in the previous video, I'm going to make that four on. You'll see here that it just looks just look, Ott. That's no good for a coloring page. So what I need to do is I need to combine all of these letters so that instead of being individual letters there, one single shape on that they we get rid of these these overlaps. I can't do this in grab. It s so we need to hop over to another free online, a crowd online based application to do this. So that's just quickly. I'm going to change this Phil now. So it's black. Andi, I've got these horrible little homes here. Oops, so I'm just gonna go back and click. You'll see Phil's, you'll see here we have advanced Phil settings. Click on That's on and you'll see we have fill holes or keep holes on. I'm going to go back and change it to fill holes on that. We now have the holes field, although they're still overlapping. If I go over to my layers panel here, I'm going to click on the little eye icon on. I'm going to height everything that's here except for the text on I'm going to export just the text. So file exports export opinion of image on its no downloaded to my to my computer on, we know want to hop over to a website called Victory ization victimization dot orc on. What this will do is it will do the step that we had previously done in Gravitt, which is to make an outline of our text, but it's actually going to do it for the entire shape, not for each individual letter. So let's click on Choose file on. I just need to select the file that I just don't load it. So we just click on that on and studying us. Choose file output. Want to change this to SPG on Click on Start on. This is no processing file and it's going to in a minute. Give me document as an SPG so I can click on that. And that's no downloading that back down again to my computer. I know. Hop back to grab it. It's a bit of a pain in the neck, but it's it's what we have to do if we want to make our script front look nice. I'm just going to delete this so that I don't get confused on file import place image. Andi, I need to select the spg file that I just don't load it. So here we go. Design nine spg on. That's no placed into my document. If I If I select all of their So I just highlight over and select, uh, on and I go to fill on, make my field whites. And if I go to border on going to change the border to four and I just click off this, you'll see I have no gods. Nicely outlined words. There's no no that the letters are overlapping. I don't have any strange outlines here. All looks good. So what I can do now is just switch back on my background. So just click on Little Io icon to switch it all back on again. Andi, I will change the opacity or my pattern lair. So that's back up, Teoh 100% on. I have no created a coloring page using a script one so that additional step where we went to the actualization, too, make an outline of the word. We only need to do that when we're using a font where the letters overlap, which would typically be script type forms. If the letters don't overlap, we can just continue as we did in the previous video. This step is only required when letters overlap. So in the next video, we're going to look at how quickly chop and change the backgrounds and make variations on the page. 6. How to add embellishments & change the backgrounds: in this video, we're going to look at how quickly we can change the background to enable us to make mawr word coloring pages and what they're going to look at some additional features off Gravitt that would help us at a little bit more decorative decorative items to our page. So first of all, how to change the background to this is really straightforward because of the way that we've got this page set up to change the background. All I need to do is just click on. This is highlighted my pattern layer. What I'm going to do is I'm just simply going to add a new pattern over the top of pattern that I've already created. So I'm going to go to file imports place image. Andi, I'll just select a pattern here. So just select Andre. But there it is. Now you'll see. It doesn't quite fill the whole background. So just rackets, um, pull the handles user handles to drag it. So it's the right size. Andi, Uh, here it is. It's automatically cropped it to the right size. We don't need to worry about doing any adjustments or anything. It's there for us. Ready ready to go. So that's how quickly is the border stood in place. Everything's in place. We just add a new layer in here with the image on with pattern and it's ready to ready to rock and roll. So I'm going Teoh today I choose happiness. I'm going Teoh outline this text. So convert to path drag it back into place again on going to make the fill whites on the border. In the previous ones, I had the border. It was four in this one. I'm gonna make it, too, because the patterns quite a light, gentle pattern in the background and I don't want it to be too to Teoh. I don't want the words to overpower the background pattern, so I'm just going to increase the size of that. Andi, I've got their true happiness. Um, I can do a couple of other things if I wanted to. One thing that I can do is use the these shapes here to add a little bit of interest to my page. So I'm going to choose. Are the rectangle here ons just lying that up slightly on just gonna drag a rectangle across the across the page? on. I'm going to change the background to the film so it's white. Ongoing, adds a border. I'm going to add a two point border, so it's the same as the border on my text. There we go on. And, um, that just helps to focus the eye on the words I want. Then to duplicate this. So it's at the bottom of the text on control, See to copy Control V to Paste. Andi just struck that down on DNO. I've just got a couple of lines Teoh to break up the background on to focus the eye on the core message here. I could also, of course, adds Polygon star triangle if I wanted to, so it's like a neat way of adding additional interest to your page. But we can take that further. And if we go to the library's section here, Andi, if we go to shapes, you'll see that there's actually some or interesting shapes that we have available. So, for example, I might want to add ah, heart to my page. So I just click and it adds the heart to shrink it down a bit because it's a big size on. I'm going to fin It's with whites on to make the border to so is the similar to everything else. So I've now got a little heart at the top of my page to shrink it down a tiny bit on. I think I'm going to add it to the other side as well. So control C control v ng to copy and paste on, and I gotta go to hers. I might also want to add something behind my text. So let's have a look here at the sort of shield e shapes. So I'm going to click here on and going to drag. This ain't, uh, like this. Uh, this is obviously for demonstration purposes of. This is just a bit of it's gonna look a bit odd, um, on going to change the background to white on the Phil 22 again. So it's in keeping with everything else on. It's covered up my text. So as we've seen before, all I need to do is to adjust the less so that everything is in the right order. So I don't want my I don't want this shield on top of the text underneath the text. Andi, I've no got it. So it's underneath my text, just a just that slightly. Andi. It's a bit of a variation. It does look a bit odd on Guy probably wouldn't release this to to anyone. But you can see it's how we can use the shapes here on also the shapes in the library to add a little bit of additional interest to, ah, to our coloring page. The key here is to ensure that the elements that we add contribute to the page that they don't detract. They don't confuse the message that they don't detract from the words on the coloring page . After all, this is what it's all about. Respect the words. But you can use additional elements to highlights, to focus people's attention on the words to break up large sections of backgrounds or in any other way that takes your fancy 7. Considerations for selling your coloring page: I just want to spend a couple of minutes to talk about the implications of selling the coloring pages that you have created. Now, if you don't intend to sell your coloring pages, and if they're not for commercial use that purely for personal used, you can skip over this video that this video doesn't have anything that would interest you . However, if you are thinking about selling your coloring pages and making current pages to sell maybe saseidx liners a new business or if you're going to use the coloring pages commercially, then it's important to ensure that you comply with the copyright lords. So you need to be sure that you have the right to use all the different elements in your page. This is one of the reasons why we have created our own patterns for our covering page, and we haven't used a ready made pattern from a stock photo site or somewhere else, because then we don't have any worries about whether or not we have the rights to use that image. If we have purchased a illustration and if you look at some of the big stock photo sites, you will see it is possible Teoh purchase patterns. Ministrations, which you could use, is a backdrop for your page. However, you would need to make sure that you had the right licence if you were going to sell that page that finished page if you were using another element in it. So we need to make sure if we're going to create a covering Page two to sell. We need to make sure that we have the rights to be able to sell something that's using that pattern and that we're complying with the license terms. We need to make sure that we're using the fonts, which we again that we is licensed for for commercial use on. And we need to look at the license agreement of any element that we're using. We've created our own patterns and that we've created our own patterns using collider paint on that is totally acceptable for us to create our patterns and to sell the patterns that we create so we don't have any worries without pattern. We're using funds from Google fonts and if you look at the Google forms, terms and conditions, you'll see that allow the Google phones are free and open. Source on DCA NBI used in anyway, so that's good. There you could upload your own font. So perhaps you purchased the farm where you have a phone that you love, but you need to make sure that that funds is suitable for commercial loose use. You will notice a lot of forms, particularly three forms available for personal use only, and not for commercial use. You would need to purchase an additional commercial use license if you then wanted to sell something that used that fund. If you were using any additional elements, you would need to make sure that they were suitable for commercial use on If you look at a lot off the again a lot of free images, you'll notice that they say personal use only so you wouldn't be able to create a coloring page using that elements unless you had a commercial use license. There are some sites, such as picks obey, which are full off open source or public domain images on elements on A so we can see here , it says that you can copy, modify eggs, blah, blah, blah, even for commercial purposes. However, this is only something that you need to worry about if a you intend to sell your coloring pages or to use them commercially, or B if you've used any elements from 1/3 party where you don't have the rights to use up those elements or you don't have the commercial use license in order to use those elements . 8. Share your finished pages below!: so that's it. I do hope you've enjoyed this workshop in this workshop. We've learned how to make a pattern. We've learned how to create our text and outline the text how to put it together to create a word coloring page. So by now, hopefully you've got one or more coloring pages that you can use for yourself. Give to others. Just generally have fun with I'd love you to post some examples of what you've created in the project section below.
