1. Intro: Hello, dear friend. I'm Nina. Nice to meet you and welcome to my course. Here I will try to share with you my knowledge and experience I get during my work as a content manager. Hope you'll find it useful and it'll help you to become a great content manager as well. Don't hesitate to ask questions before starting comments. Excel. If you don't have any, I'm ready to start. Let's dive in. 2. Class 1: What is a content?: What is the content? Content is a collective name of elements that feel websites, apps, widgets in other platforms. There are five main types of content. Text, anything created by words, copies, guides, tutorials, product descriptions, quizzes, forums, contexts, visual, anything created by using pictures, images, animations, gifts, logos, charts, video, anything created by recording moving elements, logs, webinars, TV programs, movies, audio, and a thing created by recording someone's voice or any kind of sounds. Podcasts, MP3 music, pronunciation guides, audio books mixed. At least two types of content are used. Infographics, visual Plus text, lectures, video plus tx plus visual. When prepared for online publications, different types of content are usually used together. For example, copies are mixed with related pictures, texts plus visual videos come with subtitles, video plus text. Audio has a transcription, audio plus text. Also, any type of content can be transformed into another. For example, texts can turn to audio and vice versa, video can turn to text and animation. Animation can turn to visual. Thus, the number of content types defines its complexity. The more types of elements of each type used, the more complex content is. 3. Class 2: What is a content manager?: What is a content manager? A content management specialists or content manager's job is to research, plan, and published different pieces of content on various platforms and sources, such as websites, social media channels, and paper additions. Manage a content team work. A content manager can work both offline and online, full-time and part-time with a specific niche or overall the industry alone or as a content team leader. If works offline, content manager can be called as an editor as well. And the opposite, if editor works online, jobs named turns into content manager. This is a multi skills job. And no matter how wide is an area of interest, content manager often collaborates with marketing, public relations or PR, social media marketing or SMM and advertising teams. Although it depends on business needs, the main purpose of the content management is to create brand identity and online presence. Selling products are in services is not necessarily included the content managers responsibilities list. 4. Class 3: Employers&Employees: Who hire content managers, digital agencies, brick and mortar companies, solo entrepreneurs who were hired by content managers, copywriters, ghost riders, translators, proofreaders, video editors, graphic designers, podcast creator's salary. Full-time content managers with average salary all over the world are able to pay their monthly bills and meet basic medium needs. Full-time content managers with advanced skills in a high salary are able to meet their expanded needs. 5. Class 4: Pros&Cons: Pros and cons. All pros and cons are relative and depends on specialists own expectations. Any advantage listed below can be a disadvantage for a particular content manager, and vice versa, grows. Remote hybrid work options. Flexible schedule job, creativity based work. Growth opportunities, multifunctionality, leadership opportunities, Solo or team work of your choice. Networking opportunities, lifelong improvement of related skills, cons, sedentary work, responsibility for other people when working as a team leader, possible disagreement with business rules and requirements for a content. Lifelong, complimentary education is a must-have. Deadline oriented work. Time management is crucial. Minimum opportunities for hourly paid income. Often at least two languages are required. Kpis are specific for different business. 6. Class 5: Online vs, Offline: Images online versus offline. When considering a content managers work in this viewpoint, there is no actual difference with any other full or partially digital specialty. All advantages of remote work are the same for various talents. Here they are. The opportunity to work from all over the world. Work from home option, flexible schedule, no transport expenses. Cost-effective time management. More time for personal activities and sleep. Low-risk of mobbing and bullying, especially when there is no offline collaboration background with current team. Lower risk of toxic and other unwanted communications. Lower risk of burnout if project properly planned and managed. Convenient for talents with disabilities. Although online work looks more attractive in offline, some people still prefer to work in brick and mortar organizations. And there are some good reasons. Higher social engagement. Water cooler talks, in-person interactions. More intensive physical activity within work hours. Strong boundaries between the work and rest hours. Avoid this job if you're the job can be tough. If a talent wants a fixed time job, doesn't tolerate for a flexible schedule, doesn't like to deal with great amount of data, doesn't like data structuring and research is not passionate about teaching others avoids collaboration, likes long time projects where results can't be achieved in a short period of time. Who is this job for? A content manager job is ideal for those who are passionate about research, data structuring, self-education, and teaching people through a high-quality content. Moreover, talents who wanted to be a leader of their lives also will find the job optimal and cost-effective. A few more tips show that talent is in the right way. Our passion for lifelong education. Interest is separating the wheat from the chaff. Talent wants to grow as a tutor, but has no experience in teaching others. Talent wants to make this world better. Talent doesn't tolerate for fakes. Creating content is passion for talent, not only income source. In other words, if you want to work online and combined doesn't have skills in one job, giving people an opportunity to learn something great, you can become a great content manager. 7. Class 6: Demand&Trends: Demand and trends. As work moves to the digital world and more and more niches and industries become full digital or at least expand their presence on the Internet. The number of digital specialities also boosts overtime. And what defines a success of each project is the quality of content. Let me explain. Education sector provides information for students and instructors. Marketing teams make efforts to inform and educate their audience about products. Salesman tried to solve client's problems and needs through questions and researches. Entrepreneurs feel better when all documentation, including Value Proposition, schedule risk, assets are shared with stakeholders. Life coaches care about productivity on their training. Designers look for outstanding animation intended to save users time. So as we see, any specialist works with content in a specific way. When considering that there is no more content without digital backup, we can state the following. Any digital profession, including the content manager job, is in high demand today and then need will grow over time. 8. Class 7: Growth opportunities: Growth opportunities. One another important advantage of a content manager job is that there are no clear hierarchical boundaries. Mostly it depends on a project specification. In some businesses, there are three level of hierarchy, from lowest to highest level. One, content manager to content strategist, three, content director. So let's see what's the difference. If exists. Content director defines goals, target audience, and KPIs. Content strategist builds a plan on how to meet audiences content needs an insect's deadlines for its run. Content Manager works on implementation of the strategy, content search, or in creation and publishing. However, in most cases, content manager job includes all these skills and competencies. So if you wanted to totally take a project your hands, you'll be able to do it as well as if you wanted to be a part of a content team, you can become it. 9. What's next?: In our next class is we will talk about skills required for a content manager job, how to get them in a quickest way, and how to break through the glass ceiling.
