1. All Occasion Cards Intro and Supplies Overview: high end Jodi Hand. Welcome to my skill share class watercolor all occasion cards with gold leaf details. If you've never done go leave before. This is a really great accent. Add to your watercolor art and we're gonna practice us by making some greeting cards. And I selected five different designs today that could be used for multiple occasions. Pretty much every part of that were done in this class today. You could make with any sentiment on it and make it fit for any occasion. I've tried to pick some really basic designs that would work with lots of different occasions that you give a greeting card for whether it be wedding, a baby, a birthday. Congratulations for any event retirement anniversary, graduation, anything that you could think of. We have a card that could fit that need, and you can customize this with whatever colors you want. Do it in whatever pains you have on hand and have fun with it. We're gonna be making all of these cards in different steps. So I broke in the class up into different lessons and they have parts. So the first part of the lesson off the card will be just doing the watercolor part of the card. The second part will be doing the gold foil application and adhesive application, and the third part will do the lettering of all the cards. So if you wanted to go ahead into all of the watercolor steps first, you could do it this way. Do one card at a time. I set it up so that you can select different parts of the lessons to go to if you wanted to . All the watercolor and one go all of the oil in one go and all of the lettering in one go, So follow the class in whatever order you want. You can pick and choose whichever card designs you want to dio, but by the end of that you'll have five different car designs that you can customize for any occasion. And you can leave them blank without any sentiments on them, so that you ready to go for whenever you have an occasion coming up, and you can just add your sentiment to it afterwards. It's really versatile, so I hope you have fun making these cards with me because they are really fun to design, and it's fun to learn a new technique. If you've never done the gold foil before before we dive right in, I'm just gonna quickly go over the supplies, which are also available, listed out in the class description or under the class projects for you as well. So the first thing you're gonna need is the Strathmore watercolor card. That's what I'm using. I'm gonna do five of those. I am gonna be using my Princeton Neptune brushes. I've got 1/4 inch taker around four and around eight, and also used my velvet touch around eight as well. I'm gonna need some masking fluid. This is Windsor and Newton Brand. And I'm also going to need my gold foil. And Michael leave adhesive a brush to apply that with and rub it off. Some Tambo dual brush markers. I've got a couple different sets with a variety of colors. We have this pdf that you can download in the class. Resource is that's got my brush lettering elements that we can trace if you wish, and a light pad to trace those. Or you could use a sunny window. And I also just need a few little things like pencil and some washi tape in different thicknesses. And if you do the bonus project, you'll want some water color ground. That's the last supply that will be using their. So have fun painting along with me and the first lesson starts here in just a second, and we're just gonna do an overview of how to apply gold foil before we start making the cards.
2. Lesson - How to Apply Gold Foil to Watercolor Artwork: all right To begin with, I'm just going to start by going over some of the B six steps of doing metal The gold Lee Silverleaf, whatever you call it, gilding, adding thes spoil accents to our watercolor art. Now the supplies you're going to need our course, your gold leaf. This is a package. I got its imitation gold leaf and it has gold, silver and rose golden and just got that on Amazon. I'll put a link to that in the class description. We'll need some metal leave adhesive, and it comes to different ways. If you buy this brand the speedball, they've got it in a little jar. So if you want to cover larger areas, you apply this with a brush, and you want to make that a brush that you don't care about. But it's still sort of good because, well, it will get sticky and you'll have to wash it out with soap and water. So do not use your nice watercolor brushes for that. Have some dedicated brushes that use only for your adhesive. You can also purchase it and in a piece of pen, and I've only uses a couple of times I do find it a little bit tricky to use because you do have to keep getting the adhesive to flow to make sure that you have a piece of scrap paper or paper. Tell Handy's. You can press the tip down every so often to get more adhesive flowing to make sure that you get enough on your paper, you'll need a brush. I am using these masking fluid brushes again. This is a round sites for that came with it and this one I've used a couple times. And so it is getting a little bit sticky so it might grab another one out. Just Teoh have on hand and have to make sure I wash this one again. And you can just wash the brush out with soap and water afterwards to get all of the extra adhesive off of it. Like I said, we'll just want to use an inexpensive brush that is okay if it gets ruined. So don't use your nice watercolor brushes for that. And then we'll need a soft, flat brush for dedicated just for applying and removing our extra gold foil. So I'm just using a 3/4 inch flat brush that I had that I didn't use for watercolor. See, it already has quite a bit of gold foil Stuck to it because it picked up a little bit of adhesive by accident. Some other things that you might want to have on hand are some clubs, cotton gloves so that the gulf oil doesn't stick to your fingers. You see, I've already glued several bits of it to my desk by accident. Um, we're all going to be putting down a large sheet of paper underneath of this so that we can collect any of extra flakes and put them into a jar to see for later. All right, I Panelist supplies ready to go here. I just got this'll is part of a car that I goofed up on one side, so I just kind of ripped off the 1/2 that was still playing just for a practice. And unfortunately, I do recommend having some gloves, and I cannot find mine right now, so I am just gonna end up getting some gold leaf kind of stuck to my fingers. I have a feeling, but it washes right off with the glue with soap. So, um, this should be a problem. You will notice that gold leaf sheets are very, very delicate. They're very thin, so they will shred up and tear very easily. They come packaged like this if you buy this set and they have tissue paper between the sheets of a hope, but it just kind of stick to your fingers a little bit. If you have lotion on your hands, make sure that your hands are nice and dry and clean. So I recommend just going wash your hands with soap and water, making sure they're very dry before you use it, because they will just stick to your fingers very badly. All right, I've got that. She I'm just gonna do some gold, and I am going to show the two different methods with the adhesive. So here's the pen. And like I said, got a name here and you need to depress it. Just kind of like a paint marker is where we depressed that you want. Shake it up and you'll depressed that to get the adhesive blowing. Yeah, lost, scrapped. Ready for that. So I just have a little sheet of some scrap paper here, and the adhesive is white and it dries clear now, contrary to what you think would happen is that you just put that he's von and lay that will boil down. But with this particular type of adhesive, what she wanted to dry and then it will be tacky. And then we can apply our gold leaf. So I'm just getting that adhesive flowing here. I'm having a hard time. You have only use this pen twice. Okay, there. Now I finally have someone. He's a flowing and it can see the white and he's it on there. And you can use this to make simple lines. Not going to get a very thin line, though with the Spanx, who has a pretty large nib on it. And I'm just going to keep my scrap paper over here because I will have to keep depressing that to get some adhesive pulling every so often. And I'm going to write a letter so already age her hand, which is my last name, and you want to make sure you get a nice coat of us because it will not stick if you don't have enough adhesive and to avoid having to go back and reapply you don't want to have lots of layers. So one thing I've noticed the pan in particular is if I try. Like I just tried to go back over that one spot A lot of times what you'll end up doing is this dry so quickly You try to go back over it. You're actually picking up the adhesive that you already put on there. You do need to be careful if you have a pen. All right, so that is one way we can do just draw it lead. He's about, like, a paint marker, and then the other way primarily be using is this. Oh, shoot. All right, that is gonna be problem. Shoot. Okay. The primary way that I will be using it as in this little guards. Very liquidy as white. I'm just gonna be applying it with a brush. What? This brush is not have it the primary way that I'm going to be applying the use of is with a brush. So, like I said I'm using have a masking fluid brush. Um, it's pretty stiff bristle, so I can get some nice strokes with that. And this is very liquidy and white in adhesive, so it will be white when we put it on. And then we'll know it's dry when it's clear. Now the pen it says about five minutes to 10 minutes. And the jar it says about 30 minutes. But I found in my experience is probably about 10 minutes of both of these, because we're putting it in such a small amount and not a big, large wide coverage space. So if we were using this to gild an object and we put a lot of it on, there will probably take a lot longer to drive. But you can just check it for tackiness. Look at it, see if it's clear, so that first line I'm our Drew a little bit ago is already drying. You can see that little bit of machine I hope you can on there, and I am just going. Teoh, do a little heart. Just make sure you get a nice coach of the adhesive on there. Well, let that drive. And some of the methods are we doing here in the class today are actually doing some tape lines to help us make straight lines. And if one of the designs has an area like we're doing some frames or some triangular geometric shapes with the adhesive weaken. Just paint along the tape line, or you could make to tape lines and fill in the empty space and then just left your tape up after we're done applying adhesive. I'm just using washing tape. You could use masking tape. I just find that washi tape in particular doesn't rip your paper up when you peel it up. And if you're just using it for a short amount of time, we don't need it to stick down for very long. So here we do our frame. Then I can control the thickness of my line and get a nice straight line. So I'm just going to fill in, get a nice coat of adhesive on there. Hurry and before you go and lay your boil down, go wash your brush so that you can use it for your next one after you wash your brush. Like I said, you wanna wash your hands and make sure that they're not damp. You don't have any lotion on your hands because that gold foil will stick to your hands pretty badly. Otherwise so I have got an extra sheet of paper underneath here to collect all of my little extra bits. Then I can just pour back into a little jar container to save all of that for later. These were not going to use this whole sheet to cover all of this. And most of my abusive is dry. I have that. That last line that I put down is to a little bit wet, and you can feel on your piece of that. It's all right after you wash your brush out, I want to make sure that your hands all right, I got my brush all washed out and I'm ready to go on to my next step, which is applying my foil to my dried out, he said. So make sure again that your hands don't have any lotion on them. They're very dry, and they don't have any water drips from washing your brush out. Still, because this will stick to your hands. And if you have gloves, some cotton gloves on to handy to put one on one of your hands, that would be helpful as well. Who's going to lay that sheet down across my foil? And I'm not going to brush. I just want to dab to press the boil down into my tacky adhesive. That should be dry. It should be clear at this point and not have any of that milky white. I'm just using the brush 200 dab it down so that it sticks. I had several areas that I did from my testing my sample here kind of Just tap it on. Then you should be able to notice where it is sticking. At that point, you can start to kind of just brush away the access. You kind of start to notice some little tears in it and you can start getting a little edge . And we're doing this on this extra paper. So that one, all these extra little pieces come off just kind of rush them to the side, and then we can put them in a little container. Just saber leader. And as you're brushing, you may notice that some little areas didn't get covered, and that might be because you didn't have enough adhesive in those areas. So if you put it on very, very thinly, it might not be enough, and you can just go back over those areas with adhesive. Let it try again and add the oil back. If you feel with your finger that those areas air still tacky, you can just take that foil with your brush, tap it back on and see if you can get it to stick again. I am already noticing here on this particular line that I'm working on right now that this is one that I didn't have the top part taped off on and I didn't do a very thick coat. So I'm not getting coverage as well right here. This is just practice with us a few times before you go ahead and do your cards. That's right here. This is a really good line. I did a nice, nice coat of adhesive, and I had taped up both lines with that that when I'm getting a nice solid line, But this one, I just kind of did a quick stroke across with the adhesive and my brushes, probably running out of it, he said. As I was going across, I'm not getting a very nice line. All right, so here it was the age that I drew with the adhesive plan. I actually did two coats of that adhesive with that pen to make sure that I had enough. Not that pretty good coverage. Maybe you end up with some of these little feathery edges like that. It's just because you're adhesive was not giving you really sharp edge. So here. I'm not really caring for that with that pen. So I think I definitely prefer applying it with the brush instead of the pen. Here's my little heart. This is the one. I just kind of free hand painted it with the brush again. I can tell I didn't get a very heavy coverage of the adhesive saw. Have to go back over that. If I really want that hard to stand out here, have a little edge on it. Another little tip I have is to not have a fan blowing If you, uh, have a ceiling band really close to dusk. Um, you know, maybe a lot of crafters, really just generally don't have beings of the dust cause they don't want everything blowing around. But this particular material is so light, and then it just blows everywhere, even with your breath. So if you are moving your face very close to your piece every time you take a breath that's gonna blow all around on you. All right, So the best one that I got was when I applied with the paintbrush and I taped off, and I had a nice, thick coat of adhesive. So that is my best tips for that. And we can go ahead and apply gold leaf details to our cards with that technique. So, uh, go ahead and start the lessons. And in each one, I'll have a difference. Uh, design idea for using gold leaf on your cards.
3. Class Project 1 - Part 1 Watercolor Step - loral Frame Card: for this lesson will be focusing on this card, which is a rectangle frame with some water color flowers on the corners, and I finished out with the sentiment. Happy birthday. But like they said in the intro to my class, you can really customize these and choose any sentiment you want to put in the center. Or you can leave a blank to be used at a later time to be added or just use it as a blank card. In general, this card is going to be a floral design, and we're going to be doing a frame that would go around the rectangle of the card. And then we'll have florals watchers. Here you have another floral card that we're doing those similar method of doing a floral with the gold foil lines coming up behind this. Just a little bit of a different design that will leave you a nice center area to add a sentiment like congratulations, best wishes, happy birthday, anything you can think of. So I'm just gonna do to little floral clusters in these two corners and then we'll come back and add our foil rectangle that will be coming out from behind it, All right, But this one, I'm gonna do some purple flowers. And this time, instead of a rose, I'm gonna do a little five petaled flower on here. I'm just making my little five lines using a nice, big round brush. Use whatever brush you really You like to do flowers in? I'm just making my pedals and I've got some feel blue here. Flower buds? No, my purple. Here, do a couple little bipedal flowers down here. If you wanted to do roses like the other car design, you do roses to whichever flowers you like to make. This is just simple little flowers, he said. With these cards, you don't want to be getting so detail. We're not making a massive painting that is going to be put on display. This is just a quick card that you're giving somebody, but it's still heartfelt because you took the time to make them a card. And with the way things are right now, it's like people really appreciate getting something in the mail and something that you made by yourself your hand me instead of Hallmark card that most people just end up throwing away. I want a couple. Little flower bud, take blue here, E I'm in. Switch over, I around four brush, and I'm going to use some of this undersea green got. And I'm just gonna add a few small leaves around this. Remember? We're gonna have a frame going around this, so I'm gonna go round everything. I'm starting to get a little bigger. They're trying to fix my goof up there. Just making some little leaves coming off those bods here. I think I'm gonna add another little sprig of these leaves. These little blue flowers come in this way. It needs that. Okay, do some this way too. They start out of design, and then I think it just needs a little bit more. I still have some of my green on my brush. Woops disease. All right. Okay. Well, let that dry. Now we can add our cream
4. Class Project 1 - Part 2 Gold Foil Application Step - Floral Frame Card: So we're gonna do that little frame, so I'm just gonna use my Washington again. Teoh make my frame detail thin. Washington here. Thats one. Doesn't really matter. He was thinner. Think I guess Because we're just using it for the negative space in between. Just kind of eyeball it, I guess where I want the edge to be. You could also kind of change the angles up on this and make it like a hexagon shaped brain . It's over the inside edge. I'm just going to find point somewhere across, they're not gonna be going all the way across here. So you just using that tape make a corner for myself? If you wanted a really nice straight edge right there, you can always just cut it off to get a really nice start. Straight corner. All right, so, no, I'm just gonna do this little section in this little section I'm in. Applied my adhesive with my brush. Make sure you get a nice, thick coat without to money like globs of adhesive. So just make sure you get some nice coverage. Okay? So I put my stripes coming right up against me flowers or something and try and just go around it best I can. If I don't get lots of boiled down here, it doesn't really bother me. You are stickler for that. That maybe try doing your teeth placement so that it ends up on an edge of a flower and doesn't have the gap where you'd have to fill in like I just it. I plan that out a tiny bit better. I'd could have made that work a little better. Okay, so you have a nice, thin coach not too thin and makes you don't have any puddles of adhesive that will kind of pull off to the side when you remove your tape. Close that up. I'm gonna take my tape off here and go wash my brush and then make sure my hands are nice and clean, and then I'll come and apply the foil you get given sticky
5. Class Project 1 - Part 3 Brush Lettering Step - Floral Frame Card: I got my light pad here, and I'm gonna go ahead and trace one of my sentiments. I could pick any one of these for this design. This floral frame would really work for any of them. Just gotta remember my orientation of my guard here. I almost want to do that upside down. Alright, So fill that in. And I think maybe I will make this one be Ah, happy birthday card. That's not gonna quite fit all the way across. So I'm just gonna do happy here and then birthday. Here's we'll just kind of layer that up and try to center it. Musa Tom Baduel Brush pin. I've got one. This is from the secondary palette and it's a light football number 603 So just gonna try and center that over the top row here. I've said a lot of times before. If you've taken any of my other classes where I've done some lettering, I am just not very good at freehand lettering. I always end up with different sized letters. I run out of space or I end a too far over because I thought I needed more space and then I end up, all off. So my favorite thing to do is to trace a font that I printed off, and then I just trace it and go over it. I either dio watercolor paint with a size one round brush, or you can use thes brush markers. Received myself a little bit of time. Here we go. Happy birthday. That's a really fun card. And like you said before, and some of the other class are lessons that if you just make all your card from's to start , and then you can add your lettering after the fact when you're ready to send the card.
6. Class Project 2 - Part 1 Watercolor Step - Circle and Triangle Geometric Card: this design will feature some bright colored bats, and you can customize this to whatever colors you want. And then we had some gold foil, accent lines and diagonal geometric shapes. And then the final step will be adding some brush lettering in whatever sentiment you've shoes for this card, I am actually going to use if he's bored to take my car down to a little bit. And this is just a piece of chipboard that was at the back of a package of paper. So I just see that, um, so that I can use it to set my papers on if I need to have a nice edge. And I'm just gonna be using some washi tape to tape off some geometric shapes here, and I'm gonna be going off the edge of my paper. So that is why I wanted this piece of tape or I'm sorry, the wanted this, um, cardboard here because I want I just keep off the edge here. We'll get a nice, crisp line. Basically, I'm just gonna be due to ing doing to triangle shapes here. I'm just getting myself a really, really thin little edge years. Strike it. That straight as I can. Part time, Andi, have this kind of intersect here. Here we go. All right. So what I'm gonna be doing is just kind of filling this in with some circles of different colors and just kind of let them leave together. And then when we're all done, will appeal this tape off, and that will dry. And we'll add some straight lines of our gold leaf to accent these two stripe areas. So really, just pick whatever colors you want. I'm gonna come into a rainbow theme here, so I'm gonna start out with some red. I have some permanent rid deep here, and I'm just gonna kind of go red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple all the way down. And you can leave some white space and just kind of go off your edge here. You don't need to be perfect with this. I'm just gonna kind of start mixing some colors together as I go. You got maybe a little this Mayan orange is a little more of red orange color. Yeah, I'm just using a large round brush to do this and whatever brush you want to use. I'm in ads of my yellow deep here. That running out of spots here. A little bit of that to make myself a nice orange. And if you didn't want to circles, if you just want todo another geometric trip, you could do all triangles inside your triangle. Be a cool look. No switch over to this yellow now. Groups. I just tripped. That came up real easy. Okay, Yellow circle here. Oh, stern cat here. Swear the cat must have climbed up on my desk. At some point. Maybe you're his hair just floats everywhere. And one thing I I like and just like I guess about not cotton papers. You just the water just flows across this paper so differently than cotton paper. And you do end up with a lot of these bleed together areas, which is a really cool effect. He just gives us something different and you don't have Ah, that circles just gonna tuck across here, come here. And I just kind of mix in some of the screen, not even rinsing my brush off doing something simple like this, like just colored circles. And you've been really customized that to whatever you want to monochrome color. Like all different shades of blue or pink or anything else. You really make this into lots of different types of cards that would work well for birthday graduation, baby gift, wedding card, anything you could think of get well just because so anything you can think of. So that's what this class is all about. It's just making generic ish, using the other word, more generic designs that you can put any sentiment on and make it work. So even if you want to just make the base layers of these cards and then not add any words to them, and then you have a whole box of cards ready to go that you can just quickly add a phrase or stamp to the front of. If you have stamps, maybe, and just kind of half cards ready to go that you can pull out of your box and turn into whatever occasion you need here. I just took some of that green I had on my palate, still like it was some sap green, and then I mixed it in with I had some feeling blue here and now I just put Plainfield blue just giving me some nice little designs here, and I had some purpose. Violet still on my palates will go ahead and on some about in there. Emily, I had something to go here to go. He's got some nice, fun, overlapping circles here. All right, Like I said, we're gonna let that dry, and I will peel that tape off and we'll add our gold or silver whatever color of Medellin you wanted to add. All right, that is all dry. And I'm just gonna go ahead and feel to tape off such a cool look. I love peeling tape off of things, and that is ready for us to add some oil to. And we're gonna add oil along this line and along this line and just make a really cool detail of some triangles. And me, we will just go around the whole edge here where I haven't decided yet. So I really like the granule ation I got with some of these paints and the way that it blood together look really cool.
7. Class Project 2 - Part 2 Gold Foil Application Step - Circle and Triangle Geometric Card: this card we had taped off. We did some straight lions here, so I am gonna go ahead and stick my foil down. Now, I'm just gonna try and use up a bunch of these scraps that I had doing all gold on all of these. So I do have silver and Rose gold in this pact that I purchased. But now, since I have all this gold out, I'm just gonna do all gold for right now. Really, One sheet of this goes such a long way. If you're reusing all of your little scraps, I really don't need a new sheet every time just happening on my brush to get that all stuck down to admire. And then I can start brushing away the access and I got a nice coat of adhesive on there, so that's sticking down very nicely. See, I had my my straight in the middle there. I think I had a little bit of it. He's a bleed here when I removed my tape looks like, but that's just something that happened. Makes it unique and more handmade book here. I didn't get as much of you survive a little teeny gap. It's hardly noticeable. We wanted to. I could just add a little more adhesive and just reply to that spot. Got a nice texture with the spoil. It looks really cool. And then we can go ahead and add our sentiment, and we could do that at a diagonal line going across there or across the top. You could put it centered here. You could turn the card this direction if you wanted to put it across the center. Really, that's a multipurpose card that even use for lots of occasions.
8. Class Project 2 - Part 3 Brush Lettering Step - Circle and Triangle Geometric Card: right again. I'm gonna be using my Tom Bo dual brush pens for this. And I've got my sheet with my sentiments that you could download in the class. Resource is, I have this as a pdf, and it's a fun brilliance I 72 point. But really do whatever you want. If you want to do your own hand lettering, that's great, too. I'm going to do a car that's a celebrate for this one, and I am gonna have it go across my diagonal here. Why not up? I think I will use do a bright blue, I think would look really pretty with us. And I'm just gonna trace over my lettering here. You are really good at brush lettering. Do that freehand One area that I have not mastered yet. All right, there we go. That is all. Then celebrate. But like you said, this card is very multi purpose. Any one of these sentiments would have worked were really good on this design.
9. Class Project 3 - Part 1 Watercolor Step - Foil Stripes with Floral Accent Card: in this lesson will be doing this card here. That is the diagonal gold foil. You can see that beautiful shine on it will be doing a floral element. And then the second step will be adding the foil in those diagonal straight lines. And the third step will be adding your sentiment and brush lettering. This card, the main part of this will actually be the gold leaf detail. We're going to be doing some stripes, go this way and come across, and they're going to be coming out from behind a floral element. So we're just gonna dio a simple rose with some leaves, and then the last part of it will be you doing our gold foil stripes. So I am just using a round brush. This is the Princeton Neptune around H and pick whatever color you want. I have, um, See, I have this thing for Bordeaux from the Daniel Smith watercolors. I'm just gonna use that and make a simple rose. I'm just going to pick this lower corner right here to be my focal point. And I'm making my little C shape strokes for my center here and then do some more pressure or the next role and overlapping my seams of my strokes from the previous row. Adding simple road. Okay, on I had this green here that was undersea green mixed with a little bit of into Go for a nice start, green. I'm just trying to reuse whatever pain I have most the time. When you're doing cards like this, you know that you're not gonna be spending an hour on it. You want something that's quick and easy so that if you needed to throw a card together really quickly, you can just use the paint that's left over on your palate from the previous night and throw together at card really quick for that bridal shower or that wedding or birthday party that you have coming up. I just going to a couple quick little leaves, right? And then I'm gonna let that dry and I'll add my gold foil detail.
10. Class Project 3 Part 2 - Gold Foil Application Step - Foil Stripes with Floral Accent Card: My adhesive is nice and dry on this nice and tacky, and I can go ahead and take a sheet of oil again. Like I said in the intro to applying oil, I recommend if you have some cotton gloves to throw those on just to help you from, it's sticking to your fingers a little bit. But I'm just trying to use that tissue paper to mind being edge to help me pick it up. And if you wanted to use some of your leftover flicks that is totally usable. You can see those for all those small areas. But since I had quite a large area to cover here, I just decided to use a whole sheet, the kind of tear that off a little bit. I don't over hear from my next part. Tap that down men rhyme, just tapping it to get it to stick to the adhesive. And then once it's nice and stuck down, then we'll start brushing to remove excess boil. I'm just trying to tap that down, and you can use your fingers to tap it down. Um, just as long as you make sure your hands are nice and clean, you don't have lotion on them. Nothing sticky. We've gotten all the glue clean off your fingers because that oil will stick all over you. Otherwise, Mary, I am gonna start removing the excess spoil now with my brush. Just brushing that away conceived my breath that the oil is blowing around. So if you are breathing really heavy on your paper, your extra foils gonna go flying all over. It might be a perfect occasion to use one of your masks for walking your breath from blowing everything around. Actually funny. The multi purpose germ blocking and gold foil accessory string out really nice. I got a nice even coverage of my adhesive, so I'm getting some nice lines. I think I had a little bit of my adhesive go outside of my line when I pulled my tape off a little too much, right? Everything. - That line turned out very nice. Have a nice big piece of foil to save here, too, for the next card. One thing nice about doing all these cards all at once is that you could break this up into the different steps to the painting. Step first for all of them. Do the application of the adhesive all in one step, and then do the foil all in one step. And then you have a bunch of blank cards with different designs that are all ready to go. And you can just leave him like that and tell you're ready to go to an event where you need to send a card to somebody, and then you can just add your sentiment afterwards or if you know you're gonna have a lot of baby showers coming up. You could make a lot of congratulations cards all at once of different designs. All right, there is that Rose Dagnall card and we will add our sentiment Going right here or right here would be a nice placement for it. We could add just really small something. We'll probably just go right across the top here, and that will be the next step. But I am gonna go ahead and get all my stuff cleaned up, and then we can add our sentiment
11. Class Project 3 Part 3 - Brush Lettering Step - Foil Stripes with Floral Accent Card: all right. This one is already for me to add a sentiment. Teoh, I think I wanted to try to do congratulations on this, but I don't think I left enough space. Just go straight across here. I kind of wanted to do it across this diagonal, but it didn't leave enough space. And I really want this to be a congratulations card. I'm just gonna do it right across the center. Here, do a little black for that one. My time. Baduel brush pen. And I got that in the end of 15. The black try and make sure you get that straight across, and I'm just gonna trace over my word. Congratulations. Here. This particular car design would work with any of these all of the cards in today's class. You could pick any one of these sentiments or another's under meant if you wanted a lot of difference. Phrases that people use for many occasions try to pick some generic ones that are very common for hards that we would send out Course you have lots of holidays that would work for some of these as well. Father's A Mother's Day. Uh, there's lots of different reasons that you send cards for. So that's one different variation. And like he said, it would be nice if I had a smaller phrase. I could do a diagonal across here and line it up with my diagonal lines, but I like that just fine. So happened making that card.
12. Class Project 4 Part 1 - Watercolor Step -Greenery Gold Circle Frame Card: in this lesson, we will be doing this car here. That is a circle that will be masking off masking fluid and adding greenery around it, adding a gold foil circle accent and then a brush letter sentiment in the center. All right, This car, we're gonna be doing some masking fluid, and I'm just gonna be doing a circle which we can put our sentiment in the center and I want, and eventually we're gonna do circle will have gold leaf around it. But I'm gonna do greenery around this, So I'm gonna just start out by doing my masking fluid stuff. And I just have my roll of tape here to make my circle with any circle object that you want to trace around, I'm sure very lightly. And then I don't need to do the whole entire circle. I just need to do the edge so that I make sure that I don't paint over, um, the center where I want that to be solid. So I have some Windsor and Newton. This is colorless art Mex masking fluid. And I just have a teepee brush that I can make sure you wash out or I don't care about if it gets ruined. So So get this mask employed and just fill in long edge. And if you don't want to do masking fluid and you have maybe some stencil vinyl or something are masking tape sheets, something that you could mask off this circle with if you don't get it perfectly along the edge, it doesn't really matter that badly, because we are gonna be doing gold leaf over that edge so we can fix any little bumps or missteps by covering it up with the gold leaf. I'm trying not to get too crazy thick here, but, um just get a nice even layer here already starting to dry on me. All right, so I'm gonna let that I'm asking for a dry and then we can go ahead and pay our greenery around it, All right? But this one, we're going to just be doing different greenery around. Mr. Goal, We've already done our masking fluid around this circle, and that's dry enough that I can start painting, and in general, I'm just going to just start out here and make my way around the circle doing different leaves. It's another opportunity if you already did the forest card in this class. Then you can go ahead and just use the same greens that are already on your palate and just do a mixture of greens around the circle course. If you didn't want to do a green, you could always do monochrome of another color, any other kind of design. You could have flowers around this as well, just in my kind of personalize it however you want. But a greenery card could be very versatile and be used for lots of different occasions. Well, we can just kind of change us up, and it's a nice little practice to doing lots of different kind of leaves. There's gonna add different leaves across here is a go. We had a little branches. I really just use whatever brush on. I'm using an eight here, and I probably will switch to a smaller one here. I'm noticing. I'm getting a little bit big conduced do whatever leave shapes you want. Here I am just kind of mixing it up, and they're kind of leading together there. So maybe I, um, just kind of leave some space around here, let it dry, and then I could do a layer on top. So we don't have all this bleeding together now that kind of just coming off the edge here like it was coming from below the circle. - Just turn your paper around us to get to the other side's that you can match the angle of your circle. If you see any spots that maybe just need a little bit darker, go back over in your side. Another layer trying to vary up the colors of leaves of God. The size the shape generally just want to have a lot of that edge of that circle covered so that when we do that gold detail, we have a nice circle to follow. All right, I think I have that pretty good. I'm gonna let that dry and then it'll be time to remove that masking fluid. And you can just use your finger to remove this. Um, I have a little rubber cement pickup here. Help me if I have any little bits. But if you did a nice thick enough coat of this, you should be able to just peel it up. Then I can use my little rivers meant pick up to help me get any of those little bits. Well, I think I just shredded my paper a tiny bit there, Rubbing that a little too hard. No. You all right? So then the next step for this card will be to add our circle of our gold foil. And then after that, we will add a message in the center.
13. Class Project 4 Part 2 - Gold Foil Application Step - Greenery Gold Circle Frame Card: or this greenery card. We did our circle, and now I'm going to just try my best to do a nice straight circle on the inside. And I'm not going to cover the entire circle. I just want to have a little frame. And since I don't have a way really to mask that off unless I did some masking tape circles of some kind, I just don't want to spend tons of time trying to make a circle. So I'm just going to brush it on, make sure I get a nice coverage of it. He sieves. I'm just gonna continually dip my brush to make sure that I have enough adhesive where I'm placing it, and I'm just resting my wrist against my desk here, make sure that I have in a steady hand. This is one. If we don't get enough adhesive on, we may have to go back and reapply. So I'm just trying to get a nice coverage, and that's why I keep dipping my brush. Make sure that I'm not running out of it, he said. It's in our practice when we did the basics of applying when I have noticed the one that I just did a quick swipe across for a line. It didn't stick to a swell because I was running out of adhesive on my brush. I'm just gonna spread that around a little bit. Make sure I get a nice even coat. I'm gonna let that dry. We'll come back and apply the adhesive. Apply the oil. This card is ready to go. The adhesive is all dry, and we're just gonna go ahead and use our scraps to just fill in around that circle. I use my freshman. Sure touched down and everything Start brushing away. All right, on. I think I will go back and add a little bit more adhesive over here. I didn't get quite Try and stick some. Maybe. I just need to move a little bit more there. Well, we got a little better. Always was. Try. You didn't get it pressed down enough. If you don't feel any tacky it he said there You may need to just go back and apply some more. But overall, I got a really nice coach. I don't really need to go back over. Got a nice straight circle going around. And I have a nice open center so I can write a little message
14. Class Project 4 Part 3 - Brush Lettering Step - Greenery Gold Circle Frame Card: My final step is to add my sentiment to my card. So I've got my sheet here and again. This is available in the downloads of the class resources in the class descriptions. So makes you click on that. If you want to use my lettering. And but this one this hello will fit perfectly in here. And I'm just using my white pad to trace this. Have an led light path that's nice and flat. And keep it around my desk of a lot of times I'm painting at night. I'm going to be using my Tom Bo dual brush workers. And I think I'm going to do this in this green that will match my green. And if you wanted to, you could also just traces with a pencil and then go back over it with the same green paint that used and using a small round brush. But just to say myself a little bit of time, I am going to be using these brush pans right there we go. That one is all done
15. Class Project 5 Part 1 - Watercolor Step - Forest Card : for this car design will be doing a little forest, and I'll be using a dagger brush to paint these trees. If you don't have a dagger brush, you could just use a round brush. But it's a really fun brush to try this technique with and try something new. So if you have a dagger brush, encourage you to try to use this. Paint these trees and we'll be doing this in lots of different shades of green. And then, instead of three steps for this card, will actually be doing two steps. Will have the painting step, and then, instead of doing brush lettering with the Margaret, will actually be doing our lettering with the gold foil. So we'll be painting her adhesive on for our letters and then adding the foil after the accuse of his drive. So all right, put this card. I am going to be using the dagger brush. We're gonna be making a little forest on the bottom of our card, and I have a pretty similar car design for one of my videos on YouTube for Father's Day card. But this time I'm going to do it just a little bit different by making the sentiment or the words be done in our gold leaf. So I am just going to use random greens and mix up different green shades, adding blue and yellow to it. You can just use whatever greens you have and just kind of make variations of green as you go across to make them lighter and darker, more blue, more yellow. And I'll just go ahead and get some sap green here. And one thing I will recommend if you need to mix up a lot of colors, should just use a round brush to makes your color on your palate and then use your dagger brush just so that you don't damage your bristles on this. And if you don't have a dagger brush, you could just use a round brush to make these trees. This is just a different technique of using a different specialty brush to make trees, so I am just gonna make a nice little line to be my base of my tree, and then I'm gonna turn the brush on its side and just have this long side of your brush facing you, and we're basically just going to dab with this brush kind of very up your angle a little bit. He ad a little bit more up there and you can drag the brush. Just practice with that and, uh, just see what different shapes that you can make with this brush versus ah, a different kind of round brush are flat brush, incoming that a little bit taller, A little wide, too soon. And I'm going to be overlapping these trees. So that's why I went to lots of variations of green just to give it some dimension and have some and friends of this so they won't all be straight across or the same high. We're just gonna bury this up in their shape and size and their color. I am gonna get out around brush really quickly just to mix up some other shades of green. I'm not some sap green and on a little bit of pressure in blue that that's just to get myself in 90. Start green. Go back with my dagger assaults, Do a little small tree right in front of it, a little bit shorter, turn my brush on the side again, and I'm just really just dabbing the brush down So I get a nice street branch and you can kind of just change the angle up to make your branch angle change too. E go Dio I have undersea green here will do that. You hear floating around here. You have a cat. You might be familiar with a dog Hair just seems to float everywhere I am in do just another shorter one undersea green this time Kind of just experiment with burnt levels of pressure And see, you go really hard. You can get a nice, thick branch that covers a lot more. And if you just barely tap your brush, you get those nice little points like that. All right, I'm gonna go back to that Prussian blue and add some of that undersea green. Just give me a little bit darker green. You go a little taller. It this time I'm just gonna work my way across year until I covered the whole bottom edge and I'm gonna get asked this green gold here is a nice light yellow green. And if you only have one green or you don't have a green, you can just use your yellows and blues and mix those up to give yourself lots of variations of green. Some people have very limited palettes. If you were one of those people, you have a look. Too much water there. I think you can just mix up your own greens, but just doing different variations. You can add a little bit of red to it or brown this one. I have just a touch. Too much water on my brush years A little bit. Take a little longer to dry there. All right. I'm getting you Mace. Uh, mix here of colors. That was some under sea green. I think I had mixed in to go with it the last time I used this palette. See what that looks like? It really want to trying to just dab your brush. You don't really want to drag it so much because you'll just get a line. And we want that little bit more of a texture to it than just a straight line. When we go like this, we're just getting a line. You know, I had the all very wet and all of that yellow green color, just kind of London in that it will be a cool look. Um, I am going to get a little bit of this into go here mixed that. Just give myself a really deep green right here. And really, if you don't want to do that center line, don't like that Look in there. You can just start making in your tree. I just like giving that just a focal point in the middle of something to focus my painting along. You know, it's just stabbing. I'm Ni making strokes. I'm just dabbing the brush and letting it make my tree branches, and I'm leaving plenty of white space between my branches so that it's not a big, solid triangle, and I have enough room for one more upscale back here had brighter green that I had mixed up. I think that was in sap green with little pressure in blue, and we'll just have another tree right here. And if you wanted to do another layer over top of these and maybe do a couple smaller ones in front was in darker green, that would be a nice little additions just really make it. However, you, however you like, had as many or as few trees as you want. You would flip the card the other direction and just do trees along the shortage of your card and just have a couple and I'm no, let that dry before I go ahead and do my sentiment in my gold leaf. So if you wanted to go ahead and just paint the rest of the cards in the class, you can certainly just do all the painting steps first and then come back and finish up the rest of the lesson and do the gold leave all at once if you're gonna be doing all the cards . Otherwise, the next step here will be doing is the gold leaf, and I'll show you how we can do our lettering and we'll do that in adhesive and add our gold leave or silverleaf whatever metal the color you want to add to your card.
16. Class Project 5 Part 2 - Gold Foil Application Step - Forest Card: so in the class project Resource is, I provided a pdf of this This is the font. Brilliant. And I done it 72 point size and I found this pond on one of the free font websites like dupont dot com or 1001 free bumps. You can find it there or just use any thought that you like. Or you can use the pdf of these to trace for your cards. It kind of just sized amount. So they would fit on multiple sizes of the cards and will use this on some of our other cards as well. So this one, I think I'm gonna make it a thank you card. And I'm just gonna trace it with my light pad with a pencil and then I can go over it was my adhesive. - Alright , so I've got that just loosely painted or drawn out with my pencil and I'm gonna ply these with my paintbrush here. Not that's my being instance where I might have to go back and apply a second time if I don't get a good coverage of my he says. So hopefully this turns out very good. We'll see just continually dipping my brash. Make sure that I get in enough that he said. I'm just scraping off the excess so I don't drip puddles dipping my brush. That's very difficult to see, so you'll want to angle your light every so often to see can see the sheen, especially on white paper. The white adhesive is hard to see. I'm gonna set it off to the side to drive for a little bit and go wash my brush and then we'll come back and we'll player gold foil are these of his dry around our letters. So I'm gonna go ahead. I'm just don't try. Actually put this one on my actually use another sheet. Got a lot of little scraps here, but just to make this a little easier, absolutely. A new sheet down. Tap that down with my brush When I wrote my letters, there's to make sure I get a nice amount of boil on there. Look that tear away some of those big pieces again. I'm just brushing away all the excess oil there. Brush off to the side. I can use that again. This one is a little bit deemed here because we did so many little lines. So it might take a little while to fresh away the Xs on this When we do the lettering with it, just to make sure you get all those little grooves little holes in the letters you didn't pick up some extra every so often, stick back down. - And now let me get those centers out of the letter that I just kind of rubbed it with the handle of my brush where I knew the center waas just to kind of help me get a little edge. Tell me Brushed with extra off there. I have a degree. The direction of your breast drugs to help get the extra. All right, I have a few little spots. I need to go back over with more adhesive. It looks like on my A in my k there. My oh, a little adhesive Ran together a little bit right there. All right, I'm gonna just go ahead and top off the extra, apply a little bit more adhesive to a few of the spots that need it, and then I'll come back after that's try and add another little layer of boil over itch. Um, it's OK to go back over top of some of the oil. It's so thin that you won't notice any change in thickness. All right, I think that he's of is looking pretty dry for my extra. And I'm just going to go ahead and add that next layer back over the top just to fix those areas that I missed the first time doing something like these letters a little bit tricky just because we're getting such a thin area and we're gonna make sure that we get enough adhesive but not get too much that we lose our letters. So level tricky. Little more advanced to try to do this method. But once you get the hang of this, you can add gold. Leave to any of your watercolor work or other artwork. Master this on it. Such a cool detail to your artwork. There. I got that on that a que that I missed. All right, That one is completely done. We don't have anything else to do on this card. Just make sure I brush off all my extra little gold flakes, and it is ready for you to write your message on the inside and give it to a loved one.

BONUS Matching Watercolor Gift Boxes: But the bonus project at the end of the class will be doing a gift box that you can use watercolor ground paint on top of your box and add watercolor designs to it. I have a couple different options that I can use. I have this genial Smith watercolor ground that came with a set of two pains I had originally bought. And then I have this golden absorbent ground that we can try out and paying our box with and then paint over top of it with the water color for the boat. Are you for our little bonus project here at the end just to go with one of your cards and just have a fun, little extra thing I wanted to add to this class. And I have we're gonna do, um, using some water color ground to do some water color decorations on a gift box to go with your card. So this is just a pack of little white gift boxes. Their paper and I got these at the dollar store at the dollar tree. If you're here in the United States, I'm not sure, but you can find them really cheaply. Um, I have two different kinds of water. Clark around that I own this Daniel Smith watercolor grounds. A little tiny bottle. It came with a set of two pains that I bought. It was that primary set you might have gotten. You might have that if you've bought Daniel Smith watercolors and then I also have this golden brand and called absorbent Ground is what they call it. The Daniel Smith calls it a watercolor ground. I believe they had several different colors. With this. You can buy, including metallics on, and it does come in jars. I think normally I think this is just a sample size that came with, but it's a little thinker in this. If you know, show you the consistency is here. Um, I don't know if you concede e. I had this for a while, and I didn't really use it. It's kind separating out a little, but I think maybe it needs a good stir, but it's much thicker. Um, and you don't need as many coats. When I tested it out here, this is the one that had the Daniel Smith that's much thicker, says you can water it down up to 10% of water. This is the one ended with the golden as two coats of that, um that says on the directions on here that they actually want you to wait. Um, maybe it was this one. This one says allows 24 to 72 hours to cure or applying your watercolor or acrylics. But this one doesn't say anything about waiting. So I'm gonna just go ahead and try to paint on it after it drives here right away. And this one also says that you can then end up to 25%. There's a lot of different brands of this out there, so I would just follow whatever the directions say on your package. And I'm just gonna fast forward through this. You can just pause that while you paint into your ground on, and then we will join back up. All right? I'm just gonna let those dry and I'll be back in just a minute, and so we will wash my brush out and I'll let those drive for a little while. And then, um, since this particular package didn't say I needed to wait, I'm just gonna wait until they're dry and up. And then I will do my watercolor design on top and see how that works out. All right, My boxes air dry, and I am. And go ahead and just make some designs very similar to what we did with the cars in this class. So this little one, um, this, like, perfect size for a little gift cards. So I'm just going to the little circles that I did Just try to re wet some of the paint that's on my palette from earlier. I'll just start. I'm just going to the circles across the top. You really wanted to get fancy. You could go ahead and add your gold leaf detail, but I'm just gonna do the watercolor by itself a little bit of a different texture to being done on paper. So we will not look the same. A little difficult to get smooth. And I don't think I had all the way dry. I'm getting a little bit white. I mean, as you wet it, it makes it up. Not sure you can see that the pain is soaking into that ground medium there. On that, you can see it. What? Actually working its magic. Violet right. Greening is really bleeding there. A bit too much water on my brush, their most to make this into a bigger circle. What? All right. One thing I am finding out here that you get that wet enough. When you start moving your brush around on it too much, it does start picking it up. And it does not say anything on this package about it needing to cure. So maybe a good rule of thumb is just to do a test run before you do it on your finished box. No, I didn't turn out that badly. That green looking a little wonky there, though. Being a humongous circle because of my trying to fix that bleed. All right. Okay. We just set that off to the side of dry. All right, let's try this next one. This one. Do my four s design that I did get a whole bunch of greens going here. You know what? Okay. And I am just loading at my palate. Was greens here at a time? I don't like putting my dagger brush right into that paint in the pans. Just I feel like it might damage my brush, so I'm just going to you. Get my round burst, get my paint, and then listen, I think obstacle this way so I don't have to do quite as many. Creston, Make him a little taller center. Start dabbing my brush to make my rangers that color. Is that undersea Agree in that 1st 1 just doing my variations range. Adding in a little bit of yellow or blue give myself some variations. I'm just dabbing my brush to give moving branches. All right. My comments on this is if you have a lot of water in your brush. Look at that bleeding. This does not like to be very wet. - Just do a couple of years and brown here just to tryto hide off that really bad bloom spot right there. - That would be a really nice accompanied to the card or whatever occasion that you're giving that for, um, this little box be really good. Watch for jewelry or small money. Clip, tie, clip things like that. Hurry up side drift water on there. All right, this last one, I'm just gonna do a little rose detail on it. We don't need to do it on just like that. I have here that Bordeaux. And I'm just gonna be a little rows here. We'll see how this turns out. I will say here that you want to leave more white space, and you normally wait because of the way of the paint spreads on this. This is a little bit different than painting on paper. Make sure you're leaving a little bit a room for that. Just spread that extra water on my brush there. Sure. You get that that leaving into you go. That would be a perfect little accompaniment to our other card that we did with the floral design and the diagonal stripes going across and gold.
