1. Introduction: Hello everyone, I'm communists. And in this class we
are going to take one logo name and we're going to animate it in several
different styles. This is the first style. And then we're going to move
on to the second style, which is the name
and then a slogan. And we're going to create a
illustration and animate it. Then we're going to take
that illustration and turn it into a monogram
and animate that. And then finally,
we're going to do an outline style animation
as you see here. We're also going to take some of those elements,
bring them together, and create a background video to it so that you can
kinda see how it would work in real time. And several ways that you can
use your logo animation is as a website banner
or a YouTube intro, or just to add to
your portfolio, if you are a graphic designer, the only thing you need is a Mac computer to
do this lesson. And you can just
download Keynote, which is a free app
that comes on iMac. And that's basically it. So let's jump right
into the first lesson.
2. Introduction to Keynote: Okay, so I'm just
going to show you a quick overview of keynote. If you're not familiar with it. But if you have a
Mac, an iPhone, or an iPad, usually already have Keynote already installed
on any of those devices. Or if it's not already
pre-installed, you can just go to the Google. The Google, not
Google, I'm sorry. The Apple Store. And you can download it. So already have minds installed. So if I just click
on here keynote, I can just right-click it
and press new presentation. It'll give me a bunch of
themes to choose from, but I'm just going to
go with a basic black, which you see here. And then I'm just going
to click on Create. And so yeah, this is what
the main screen looks like. I think I kind of went over
this in my previous class. But just a quick
overview right here on the left hand side is
where the slides are. On top is where you
can add some elements like photos and shapes, texts, charts, different
things like that. Then on the right is where
you can customize it. So you can customize the colors, the fonts for the text. And then we have this
tab over here where you have an Amit and this is where we're gonna be
doing all the animations. Then you have this document size set tab where you
can resize the, the, the, the, the, the, what do you call it? The canvas or the screen
size and all of that. So I'm gonna go through all of these things as I
show each lesson. But that's basically the
simple outline of it. Yeah, I think that's
pretty much it. I'm not going to go
too in depth with it. You'll see how I use each
feature as I go along. So we're just going
to move on to designing our first
designing and animating our first logo variation.
3. The First Logo Animation: Alright, so we already
have our keynote open and we have some
text boxes here. I think that I'm just going
to leave one of them, so I'll just delete
two of these here. The reason why I'm
leaving one of them is because when I
drag the corners I can resize it big and small. Alright, so I'm going
to just double-click on here and we're going to type in our logo name or brand name, which is a personal brand. So I'll just say or name brand, pick the name and Amina atoms. And now I can go over to this top right
corner and click on format. Then you had these other tabs here where you can
really edit the letters. So I am going to highlight this and I'm
going to change the font. So I'm going to go
over here where words, the under text, a seat, you see font. I'll
click on that. And then I'm going to
click on, I have a font, a free font that I
found coal salient, and I really liked the spot. We will link to where you can
find it too if you want to, but you can pretty much
use any font you want. Now that same with
that highlighted. Let me zoom in a bit, just, I don't want to make sure you
guys can see this clearly. Alright, with that highlighted, I'm going to go to this
little wheel here, this advanced options wheel. And I'm going under
character spacing. I'm just going to
increase that a bit. Alright, that looks good. Let me zoom out a bit so
we can get an aerial view and bring this in and
send to this on the page. Alright, so that
is our basic logo. This is the base logo. Of course, we're going
to add some elements onto it or change it up a bit. But now, let's just do a simple animation
of this one, right? Alright, so I'm going
to click on it. And I'm going to click where
the top up here at the top. And I'm going to
click on animate. And then you'll see
build-in action build-out. First, we're going to
start with building. I'm going to click
on add an effect. And there's a ton of different styles that
you can go with, right? But the ones that I, my favorite are these here. So I could just click on preview just to see what it looks like. And I'm going to show you how to even customize it even more. Pivot. There's pop, Scale, spin. And it goes on and on and on. I really like that one there, the twist and scale. So that's what we're
going to go with. But if you want to customize it, I'm just going to click
on Twist and scale. And you can change the duration. So I can do like maybe 4
s. And I can change the if I want it to be
counterclockwise or clockwise and I can
just press preview. And I think I want to do it clockwise. And that looks good. So I'll click on, build out, click on Add an effect. And I'm going to click on that
same one, twist and scale. And I'm going to change
this to about 4 s as well. Now we're going to click
the Build Order box. So the build order box, as well as how you can just tweak the timings
for the animation. For the first slide, I am going to know, I'm sorry, for the second slide, I'm gonna select the
second, second side, the build-out animation,
That's the second one. Then down here at the
bottom you'll see start. And then we're going to
click after build one. And we're going to put delay. About one-second,
should be fine. Now what this does is
it's going to animate in and it's going to delay for, let you delay for one
seconds so you can kinda look at the logo and
then it's going to build out. So just push this
over to the side. I'm going to press Preview
to see how that looks. That looks pretty cool. So that was our first animation. Very simple. Let me center this
a little bit more. And we can press the play
button to get a full screen. And they happen. Of course, you can adjust the
timings if it's too slow, if you want it to be
faster or slower so forth. But that's pretty
much a basic one. Very simple one. Don't worry, you may think
that, oh, that's easy. We'll get complicated,
we'll get a little bit more
complex if you want. One thing I want to do, I think that's fine. But the one thing I want to
do with this design really quick is just to
increase the spacing. Because I just like it
when it's a bit wider. There we go. I feel
like that just looks so much more refined. And we'll just see how that
looks again one last time. Great. I like it's a little
bit more spaced out. Give the letter some
room to breathe. Alright, so that
was our first one. Let's move on to the next one.
4. The Second Logo Animation: Alright, now let's move on to our second logo
variation and animation. So what I'm gonna do is I'm
going to right-click this. This is the panel right here. On the left-hand side. I'm going to right-click it and I'm going to
click on Duplicate. So now we have a new one. And I'm going to zoom in a bit. Maybe not that much. Then what I'm gonna
do is and click on the text box here for something
clicked on the text box. But then I'm going to
click on option and then click on it and
then drag it down. And that brings me
a new text box. And I'm just going to
double-click here. And we're gonna give it
kind of like a brand name. Just type in floral design. And this will be like the, the subtext for this brand. And just bring that right
here in the middle here. So there's that. Now I'm
going to add some lines. So I go up here to the top where it says
Shape, click on it. Click on one of
these lines here. And then I'm going to click on Shift and bring one
of the lines down. Firstly, move this over here. I'm going to click
on Shift and take one corner just to make it even a straight line. And then we're going
to click on option, click on that line and
then drag that over. And see these guide marks. It just tells me
that it's perfectly centered or perfectly balanced. Alright, so the animation
for this one are first. The first thing I'm gonna
do is I'm going to delete any animations that's
already on here. So I'm just going to
delete all of this out so we can start fresh. Okay, so we have our design. Now I'm going to animate it. So I'm going to click
on the top one. I'm going to click
on Build order. I'm sorry, click on, make sure animators select it, built in a selected. And then I'm going to
click on add an effect. And this one, I'm
going to use cube. I'll just press
the Preview button so you can see our lungs. Not really don't like that. So I'm going to click on it. And I'm going to click
on the first thing. We're going to change
the duration to about 4 s. Actually, we'll do 3 s. And then I'm going to click on. I can change the order of
it whether I want it to be left to right, right to left. Maybe we'll do left to right. And then I'm going to
click on Text Animation. Well, let's preview it. So that looks a little bit better, but we can change
it up even more. So I'm going to click
on Text Animation and we can do by word. So I clicked by word
and press Preview. It'll do the firstName
and then the second name. Or we can do it by character, which is each letter. And I press Preview. And then you have something
like that, which I like. So that's what we'll do. Let me do it one more time. Perfect. Now this bounce thing here, it has a balance as
each letter moles. So I can uncheck that
and see how that looks. That's a bit smoother. You can choose whatever, whichever way you like more. It's definitely up
to your preference. I'll keep the balance on there. Now, we're going to click on Florida design and we still
have built-in selected. So I'm going to click
on add an effect. And this one I'm going
to choose dissolve. And we'll just change
that to about maybe 2 s. And then for the lines here, I'm going to click on one. And then I'm going
to click on option. And I'm sorry, no option Command and
click the other ones. So that would be have
them both selected. Then I'm going to
click an ad effect and I'm going to
click on line, draw. It may not be at the top, it may be at the bottom. But these are my, this is my
most recent used animation. So that's why it's at the top. So I'm going to
click on line, draw. And what I want is I want it to animate
this way and that way. So I'm going to
click on this one. I'm going to change
the direction right? So we'll do end to start
and see how that looks. Yeah, so that goes there. And then this one should already
be direction. I want it. Okay, Great. Now let's bring it all together. So I'm going to click
on Build Order. And then on the top one, the top one, we'll
just leave that. The second one will click
on width build one. We're going to put
a delay at like 3 s. And then this one with Bill, I'm sorry, with build one. And this one also
with build one. So let me press Preview to
see how that's going to look. Alright, that's a bit too slow. So where it says Florida's ion, I'll put the delay at 2 s
now and see how that looks. Press preview. Hey, look at that one more time. It's still a little
bit too slow. So where it says floral
design limit changes to 1 s. And see how that looks. See what this, you gotta, kinda gotta tweak it a few times. Alright, that's a
little bit better. Okay, then I could put it, put this on the center, this. So I'm going to select all
of them actually here. So I'm going to select
all of them and just center this on
the screen here. And then I'll press
the play button. And that stuff. The second animation. And of course, if you
want to do a build out, I'm going to keep
it very simple. I'm going to just
select all of them. And click on, build out. Click on add an effect. And I'll just do dissolve. I'm going to click on
the Build border-box. So you see all of
these are highlighted. So I am going to click on Command and select the
first one and make sure that the last
three are highlighted. And then I'm going to
go down here to where it says start and click with previous built so that these all dissolve
at the same time. Then I'm going to
go to the top one. And I'm going to click
on start after bill for. And over here it says delay 1 s. So it's going to animate in, pause for 1 s and
then dissolve out. So let's take a look. Okay, and that's it. So that was our
second animation. A little bit more complex, a little bit more detailed, but nonetheless, pretty good. So now we're gonna move
on to our next one.
5. Create & Animate a Floral Line Drawing: Alright, you guys, we're
on to the third one. Now on this one, we're going
to add a floral element. So we're going to create that. So I'm going to click on Add slide right here at
the top right corner. Top-left corner actually. And then I'm going
to click on blink. So we'll just have
a blank screen. And then we're
going to go up here to where it says shape. And you'll see this pin tool
on the top right corner. So I'm going to click on that so that I can create a shape. So let me zoom in a bit. We're going to keep
it very simple. Just some flower petals. Alright? So we're going to just
do one flower petal of the stem and the petals. So first, I'm just going
to press Shift as I bring my line down
and click on it. And then I'm going
to press Enter. So that's our stem. Then I'm going to
click on option. I'll click on this, click on option and then drag that over. I want, I'm gonna do now is let's zoom in just
a little bit more. I'm gonna make this
one a bit smaller. And then I'm going to
click on that line. And you'll see like a
little circle pop up. Let's see if I can zoom in
more so you can see this. You'll see a little
circle pop up. You've got the squares on each end and then
you have the circle. The circle is what we're
going to use to bend it. So I'll just bend
it to the side. I've double-clicked it.
When you double-click it, it turns into a square. So let me try that again. And then boom, you've
got a curve there. We're going to keep
this really simple. I'm going to click on option
again and drag that over. Or Option and click. And now we have two of these. Now with this one, I'm
going to click on Format. Click on a range, the range tab. And then you'll see
here under rotate, you see flip, flip that over. Great. So now I can just take this
one and drag it on this side. And outweight before
we drag it over, I'm going to curve
this line here. Give it a little S curve. So I'm just going to do that, maybe drag that over like that. And that just have
some curve to it. Now I'm going to
bring this one over. And I'm going to click Command to kinda just curve it a bit. And same with this
one. Rotate it a bit. I can even just drag
the edges if I need to. There you have it. You've got a little
leaf shape there. So I am going to bring
this all together. Drag my mouse over all
of them to select it. Press, right-click
it, press Group. And then I'm going
to press Option again and drag that over. And then I'm going
to connect this. So I'm gonna make this smaller, press Shift, make it smaller. And then put that
right there like that. And then we'll press Option
and bring this over again. And then I'm going to click where it says rotate,
flip that over. Rotate it a bit. Press command to create
that little rotate button. And then I'm going
to press Shift to make it a little bit smaller. Then we can bring
that over here. Just have to rotate it a bit. The way you want. Just to get those
super fine position. I can just use my arrow keys, touches our arrow it out. And I might do just one more. This one, I'm going to press
Option, drag that over. Maybe bring that over here. Press Shift to make it bigger. Maybe even rotate
it a little bit. I'm going to make the bottom petal smaller,
like, you know what? Let me just see if I can just okay. That's good. It lined over it pretty well. I'm assuming a little
bit more just to make sure it looks good. Of course, I'm being
very picky about this, trying to make it look perfect. Okay, so there is our illustration
for this logo design. So I can click on
highlight over it, and then click on Group and press Shift to make it a little bit
bigger if I need to. And that is our
illustration for this. I'm going to highlight
over it, press ungroup. And with everything highlighted, I'm going to click on animate, click on build-in, click on, add an effect, and click on. Should be here. I have to ungroup this again. So let me highlight everything
again and press ungroup. Highlight everything again, make sure everything
is ungrouped. When this is grayed
out, that means I don't have to
ungroup it anymore. So I had to make
sure everything was ungrouped first before
I am animated it. So now I'm going to click on add an effect and click
on line draw. That's going to animate
each line one by one. So we don't have to
wait for all of that. I'm just going to click
on the Build Order box. And you see all of these
are highlighted there. All animating one-by-one. We want them all to
animate together. So I'm going to click on Command and click the first one with
these highlighted. I'm going to click
where it says start and click on with previous builds so that it all
animates together. So now I'm gonna
press preview again. And there you have it on
to that one more time. Now we could leave it
like this or you can have it animate from the bottom up. So I'll highlight all of these. Close out this built odor box. And then under build-in, we can change to end to start. And let's preview that. So you can do it that way
or you can do start to n. This one looks,
actually looks better. And then as middle two ends. So get preview that. And that's another way as well. They're all look
great in my opinion. But that one looks
really nice too. But I think I'm gonna
do the start to n. That's just my
personal preference. I like the way that one lungs and that's
it for animating. So we've created an
illustration for this logo and we've animated it. Okay. So let's move on.
6. Monogram: Alright, so we have our illustration here and
we can create a monogram. So I'm going to duplicate
this first, the slide. So over here on the left side, I'll just right-click and press Duplicate so that
we have a new one. And we can create a
monogram with this. So I can just click on the
top where it says text. And we'll get x
bar that pops out. And I'm just going
to put a, the letter a and increase the size. Over here at the top
right where you see text. On the top right, I'm
going to change that to that font that I had before. I'm going to use salient. And of course you can use
whatever font you want. I'm going to increase the size. Let me start with 100 and
see if that's not too big. Okay. Let's do 150. Okay, maybe 200 because it's still seems a little
bit too small. Okay. And so there's that. And then I'm going to
press the Option key and click on it. I'm sorry. Press the Option,
click, click on it and then drag that over. There we have monogram. Now, if you wanted to increase the stroke lines for your illustration,
you certainly can. You just have to drag over it. Let me press Command and
unclick these letter A's. And then under format
and then click style. You see where it
says Align Stroke. You can actually increase the the thickness of
the stroke like that. And then you can even change the color if you
wanted to as well. But of course I'm
just going to keep it the same color, white. Keep it simple. But yeah, that's how you can change
the strokes of it. And so now I'm going to
animate the letter a. I'm going to click one
and press Command, click the other one. And then I'm going
to click on animate, click on add an effect. And I'm going to click on, I think I want to
click, I can pretty much preview it just to see. Could do pivot. Scale. There's a ton that I could do. But I think I think
I'll keep it as cube. Yeah, I'll keep it as q. Because that's my
favorite. Then I want one to flip this way and
one to flip the other way. So I'll click on one of them
and click left to right, which should already be there. And I'm gonna change
the duration to about 4 s. And then this one
from right to left, and change that to 4 s. And then I'm going to click
on the Build Order box here and make sure that
animates with everything else. So I'm just going
to select these two and click with
previous build. And we can preview that. And that's good. The line drawers are
2 s. So I'm going to select all of
them. Click Shift. And then over here,
I'll close this out. And then over here where it says duration will change
that to 4 s as well. And I'm going to press
the Preview button. And there you have it up. Press the play button on a big screen so we
can preview again. And they have it. Alright, so that
was our monogram.
7. Outline Line Draw: So now we're gonna move
on to our next one. So I'm going to
click on Add Slide. We're going to
create a blank one. And I'm gonna go back
to this previous one. I'm going to grab
one of those a's. So just click on it,
right-click on it, and then click on copy. And then we're just
going to paste it here. I'll probably make the
size a little bit bigger. So I'm going to click Format at the top right corner text and
then maybe make this 300. And then I'm going
to zoom in a bit. Just so you make sure you
guys can see very clearly. Because in this style
we're going to do the kind of a trace style. So I'm going to
click on this again, and I'm going to click on Style. And I'm going to just drag
this down a little bit. The opacity. And then on the
top here you'll see shape. Click on that. And then you click on
the little pen tool. Let me zoom in even more. So with the pen tool, you can create an outline or
trace over the letters here. So we can make like a
traced letter effect. So I'm going to start with
one point, start at the top. Then I can drag this down, the pin down, or just, you know, just move
my mouse down. And right before it
gets to the curve here, I'm going to click on it. And then over here on the right, you'll see the stroke line. Let's make it a bit smaller. So 0.5 points is pretty good. And let me zoom in some more. Now if you've ever used the
pen tool in Illustrator, it's complicated, in my opinion, and this one is much easier. So anyway, I've created
these two points here. And then you see
that little circle, you can just bring
that in to curve. It doesn't have to
be super perfect. That's good enough. I'm going to press my
Shift key just to keep it a perfect straight
line and then click. And then I'm gonna
bring it over. So the idea here is you want to put a straight line between the curves, right? So if you ever see
a curve like this, so you just create a
straight line like that. And then that little circle, you just drag that
into curve it. And it's pretty simple. I'm going to do the same
here. Bring that up. That's pretty straight lines, so I don't have to
do too much with it. Press Command Z. If
I make a mistake. And click that like that. And then same here, print a line down
right here like this. And then bring that
line like that. And bring that circle
in a curve it. And then press my shift key to keep it
perfectly straight. Another curve is here, so I'm going to click
that like that. Bring the circle in. I mean, this is
super easy, right? It's really not
that complicated. And then now we
bring this back up. And we have that. All right, a minimum and press
the Enter button. I'm want to do one more shape. Press get my pen tool again. And I'm just going to drag
that across like this. One point here. Press my Shift button
and keep it straight. One point here, press enter. And that's pretty much it. I might nudge this
up a little bit, click on it, and
just nudge it up. But that's it. So
now let me zoom out. And that this a here I can
move this out of the way now. And then this one I can I can click on it and
I'm going to click on, Click on animate, him and
click on add an effect. And then you'll see line drawer. Let's see how that looks. It's kinda quick. We can
definitely slow it down. But you kinda get the idea. I'm going to click on this
again and I'm going to increase the line
size a little bit. And then for this one, maybe decrease the line size. And remembering this a and
because I was trying to figure out if I wanted to
do a fill like fill it in. But I think I'll just
leave it as an outline. I can delete this. A&r,
don't need it anymore. And let's zoom out a bit. I'm going to make it bigger. So I'm going to press Group and Shift and just
make it a bit bigger. And I'm going to ungroup and make those lines a
little bit bigger again, a little bit darker. There we go, that's much better. And now I'm going to
highlight over it. Press animate at an effect. I'll do one at a time. Had an effect line draw. I'm going to slow it down to 4 s. And then this one as well, I had an effect, I enjoy 4 s. Then I'm going to click on
the Build Order box here. That second one, highlight it. Click with build one. And we can click
Preview now. Okay. And that's it for
the outline as I'm a press play on a
bigger screen here. And that's it. So that was the letter outline. That pretty much sums it up for all the different
styles that I've tried. Of course, you can mix and match different things like e.g. this illustration here. I'm going to duplicate this. Well, we'll do that
in the next lesson. I'll go over it in
the next lesson. But that's it for the outline, the letter a outline.
8. Add Background Images and Video Clips: Alright, so now we're going
to add a background image. And let me go to my images here. So you could just bring
up another image box. I mean another
window, I'm sorry, and then just drag it in. So I've got my image here. I'm just going to drag
that in and I'm going to re-size it over to
cover the whole screen. And then I'm going
to click on Arrange, send it to the back. And then I'm also going to
change the opacity a bit. So I'll click on style. And I can bring that
opacity down a bit just so that this
really shines through. And then I can press
this Play button. You can see it here
with the background. Okay? Alright, so that's
it for the, the photo. If I wanted to add a video, I'm going to go over to my finder here again
and grab a video clip. So I'm just going
to drag this in. Then I'm going to
click on Arrange, Send to the Back. I can change the
opacity down if I want a bit. So you can see that. And then click on animate, click on Build older. And you see the
little video clip is gonna be at the bottom. What we wanna do is bring that, select it, and bring
that to the top. Click on the second one and
click on with build one. Now I'm going to
press the play button because that's the only
way to preview it. If you press this preview, I don't think it's
going to work, so we're just going to
press the play button here and press the
Spacebar on the keyboard. And there you have it. And so that's how you
can add video clip and images into your logo design. Okay, So that is it for adding
images and video clips.
9. How to Export: Okay, so the last thing I
forgot to show you guys is how to export
your animated logo. And there are several
ways you can do that. You just click up on file
at the top left corner. And then you can
scroll down to export. And there's different
options here. You've got PDF PowerPoint. You can convert it to a
PowerPoint if you wanted to. But that's the ones that
you would really want to focus on is movie
animated GIFs and images. So I could click on images. If you click on any of them. You can also activate the other
ones and the tabs here at the top. So we have movie. And then you can select the
Local that you create it, whichever slide it is. You just click one of them. So you click from,
let's say one-to-one. If you just wanted to do
the first logo design, you just do that one. And then you can make sure
you can wear this area here. Just put zero. And then you can press Next. And then it'll ask you
where you want to save it, the rename it, blah, blah, blah. And then likewise, if
I go to animated GIF, now animated GIF works best with just a solid
color background. So one of the ones that have the black background or
solid color background, which is very minimal colors, maybe no more than
two or three colors. Less colors, the better. You can do it. And then also you can, if you just wanted
the background to be if you wanted the
background to be transparent, let me just show you how
to do that really quick. So here we have this logo here, and you see over here to
the right you have format. If I click on format
with nothing selected, make sure nothing's clicked
on or anything like that. Make sure if
something's clicked on, just click away off the canvas. And then you just click Format. And then here you
see color fill. Press the drop-down menu
and then select no fill. So that way, it will still look black
like if I click on it, it's still black, but
there's nothing there. When you export it, the
background will be transparent. So that's if you want it to have a transparent background
when you export it. So let's go back to export. That's pretty ****
it. Animated GIF. You can make the
file extra large. It will still come
up pretty clear. If you just have minimal colors, maybe no more than
two or three colors in your logo design. And then if you wanted to have
a transparent background, like I said, you just
press this checkmark. After you selected transparent
background on the Canvas. Then there's images. And you have a couple
of formats here. Jpeg, high-quality,
smaller quality, lower-quality, PNG, and tiff. So yeah, there's
a lot of options for exporting your design. So once and also if you
want to do it as a PNG, you can click PNG and export with transparent
backgrounds. Make sure that's
selected if you want the background to
be transparent. And that is basically it. As far as exporting, it's pretty simple,
pretty straightforward. So now let's move on
to the class project.
10. Recap : You guys for the class project, I just basically want
you to pick a name. It could be your
name or any name. And choose one of the animation
styles that you saw here. Pick a font that you like and logo arrangement
that you like. I would also like to see
you challenge yourself to create some sort
of illustration, like maybe a simple leaf
flower illustration, like we did here. If not, that's okay. You
can just start simple. Just start with a text on and play around with it
and get really creative. Um, but yeah, choose
whichever one that you like and just create an
animation and upload it. If you could do more than
one, that'd be great too. If you want to add a video, one with the one with the background
video, background image. That's also great. But yeah, just definitely want to see what you
guys come up with. I can't wait to see
what you create. And I hope you
enjoyed this class and I can't wait to
see your projects. Bye for now.
