About This Class

Being 2.5 Trillion Dollar Company, Apple knows how to market their Brand. So let's do a quick study!

In this course, we will replicate the lighting setup that shows on Apple iPhone renders that is used for their marketing materials.

Main Aspects

  • Beginner Friendly.
  • Straight-forward, less talking and more teaching.
  • Advanced Material Editing Techniques.

What you need to start?

You need the iPhone to do it yourself? I got you covered, here on Skillshare course where I teach you how I do it myself

https://skl.sh/3vLdp7Y

If you want to get the model ready to use, visit my store at Blender Market

1. 1 Intro: This is a average render. This is a professional render. In 20 minutes, I will teach you all the pro techniques used by the likes of Apple to create a top class product render. This is beginner friendly tutorial, so we'll be learning here all that you need to know. Without any further ado, let's get right into it. 2. 1+ Importing the Models: I'll start by adding the iPhone. I'll be using my iPhone 14 PromxTD Model, which I have already made a detailed course on how to make it yourself on Skillshare. If you're not interested in three D modeling, you can get the model from my store at CG trader. Let's dive into it. 3. 2 Setting up the camera: You will start by setting up the camera to have the correct perspective into our pro. Let's add the camera using Shift A. Change the focal lens of it to 80 millimeters. Move the camera back to see the iPhone. Set the aspect ratio to 21 60, 21 60 in this tab. You must rotate the camera. Make sure you are selecting the three dcursor as pivot. Set the three dcursor to center forward, rotate over the axis to 45 degrees, press dash and invert it. Go to shift in camera settings at 0.5 to Y shift. Now position a camera to fit the iPhone. And that's our camera. 4. 3 Basic Settings: There is a couple of ceilings I like to change for start making the lighting. We will be using cycles. Select GPU if you have a good one. Turn on the noise in viewport for cleaner previews. To have a better dynamic range, set the view transformed filmic. We have already made Aspec ratio. Finally, set the word coral to black to have full control and lighting of our iPhone. And it should be total black. 5. 4 Making Back Light: Everything is set to start making the lights. Start by adding a plane. Move it up, then rotate it to the backside a bit. Create a material to the plate. Add a color ramp, then add a texture coordinate on a mapping node. To make it as a light emitter, set the emission strength one, then set the color to white. I will now play with values to make it as close as possible as we want. Now, set up the color ramp as I do to have the correct gradient of light. This value to 0.035. I a smooth gradient. Set the mode to be spline. Of course, we don't want the lighting plane to show up in our render, so go to visibility and turn off ca. And it looks exactly how we want it. Okay. 6. 5 Side Light: Next, another small step towards our target. We will be doing the sidelight. Go ahead and add a plane. Rotate it to the side and lean it back a little bit. Add a material to the plane. Add a color ramp, texture coordinate and mapping. I Set emission color to white. I'll be rendering on the side so we can see the effect. Adjust the mapping. Rotate the plane over itself by double clicking Z and 180 and 80 degrees. I just call ramp as I do. We make it blend well with our product. And I'm so happy with what we have. 7. 6 Shape Light: Move on to another important light. This light will showcase the shape of our iPhone. Start by adding another plane. Position it over the iPhone as I do. Let's give it an emission property. We'll adjust the setting while looking at our product life. Go to Edit mode and adjust the shape of plane to fit the shape of our iPhone. Extend this new age lower. Exactly how we want it to be. Even though it's looking good, it's flat to me, so we'll keep on adjusting in the next structure. 8. 7 Gradient Light: You want to make the lighting more three and more gradient to break the flatness of the image. Add a light object, the make the shape ellipse. Make it smaller and position it as I do here. Make sure it's from upper right toward lower left. To get the exact effect we want, go to visibility and turn off glossy and volume scatter. Much better for me. But further adjustment is needed. 9. 8 Reflection Light: The last light I want to add is this rotated reflection that highlights the glossy part of the back. Let's hide this for now. Start by adding a plane, make it smaller and position it as I do to show on the glossy part we want. Add the material to it. Make emission color to white and strength to 0.4. I will use two windows to adjust position in white Sing it live. After making the initial position, I will change the lighting form. Like before, at color AMP, taxi coordinate and mapping. Try to copy what I do what I do to have a similar effect. A always go back and forth to have the effect you want. I want it to be there, but not to be noteful. Looking good for me. Despite having a good result, we can take it next level by making some adjustments that will give it a magical touch. I will leave dive into the materials in the next lecture. 10. 9 Material Advanced Adjustment 1: Let's take a deep look at our materials. I would like to make the black parts ***** black. Go ahead and set the specular to zero. Set Alpha in a glass materials to one. Make its color a bit darker. Adjust back material to have a metallic touch. Give the logo more metallic touch. These are some small adjustment I would like to make. Next, we do more advanced work. 11. 10 Material Advanced Adjustment 2: This lecture will be to teach you how to make the back of the iPhone pop out and have a professional touch. Select the iPhone, go to material and select the Blass material. Click Select here to select the vertices that make the back object. Press P to separate it from the rest of the iPhone. Search the new back object and delete all materials attached to it. Create a new material for it. Let's start building it. Add texture coordinate, color ramp, mapping, and noise texture. Setting as follows. Take a look at it while we make the final material. Before going on with it, go to add the edge material and copy the hex code of the gold color. Please note that this procedure is same for any color you want. Now paste the gold color to color ramp twice and make one of them darker than the other. Y Now set metallic to higher value like 0.85. Lower the roughness a bit to be near 0.3. Now, go to the back material, pat the gold colour into the base color and make it darker a bit. And here is our wn. 12. 11 Rendering!: And finally, let's render our image. Make sure you enable the noise. Use Optics if you have VDA GPU. 600 samples will be more than enough. I like to have a white background for brand images. I will enable transparent in film tab. You can add it to white background in your Photoshop or any color you want. We have made 21 60, 21 60 as our resolution, and that's the ratio. And we are ready to go. A. 13. 20 Outro: And this is for the lecture. Hoping I enjoyed it and found it useful. If you have any question, let me know. I'll be ready to answer as fast as I can. And, of course, providing a result, showing it in the project tab, it helps out a lot as a teacher. Take care, everybody.
