1. Introvideo: Make Your First Ten Seconds Count: Did you know that within the first 10 seconds, people already decided whether your content is worth their time? Well, congratulations. You've just made that decision for this video. So how do you communicate the value of your content or brand within those precious seconds, whether you're an educator, content creator, marketer, or storyteller, mastering the art of engagement is key. It's not just about the software, videos, texts, or visuals, creating engaging content, is about crafting instructional materials that tell a compelling story and connect with your audience. Welcome to this first class, engage and inspire master motivation techniques for compelling videos, blogs, and online classes, part of the series, from instructional design to engaging content. Eight skills for impact for classes, video tutorials, marketing, and storytelling. My name is Ben, and in this series, I will share eight guiding principles that have been absolutely crucial in creating engaging content. With over 20 years of experience as a teacher, I've discovered timeless secrets for creating content that not only captures attention, but also remains visually appealing, activating, engaging, and memorable. These foundational techniques, once exclusive to educators, has now been adopted by me to the broader spectrum of content creation. But these strategies are not just for big brands. They are tools you can use to elevate your own work. In this first class, we focus on the motivation principle, the cornerstone of engaging content. Even with the average attention spent shrinking, you're about to learn how to capture and sustain your audience's focus. I've seen the power of this technique firsthand, teaching high school students and professionals alike. This class will equip you with practical skills to apply the motivation principle, ensuring you grab your audience's attention within the critical first 10 seconds of your class, video tictorial, blog, or marketing campaign. We will explore these eight principles in detail from attention grabbing hooks to compelling headlines and practical exercises, ensuring your content resonates universally. Ready to join in this class. By the end, you will have the skills to create content that really makes an impact and engages your audience. No special materials are needed. Dos bring your enthusiasm and readiness to make your next project shine. 2. Your Project: Create Your Attention Grabbing Intro: It is time to make your next project shine. In this class, you will be creating an attention grabbing into for your upcoming class, video tutorial, exhibition, or any content you want to showcase. Here are a few ideas for what you can create. The first few sentences of your next newsletter block post or Steel share class, search engine optimized title or into text for your next block post or video, an ie catching flyer, an outline or linked to the into video for your next class or you tube tutorial, or any other content introduction that set the stage for your project. I'm really excited about this project because it allows you to focus what your audience really likes and tailor your content to their interests. This reflection should be a key part of every future project as it helps you create more engaging and relevant content. Once you've crafted an amazing into that captures attention, it is time to share, upload it to the project gallery and engage with your peers. It is a great opportunity to give and receive supportive feedback, celebrate each other's creativity, and inspire one another. I can't wait to see your project and a positive impact we can all have together. 3. Find an Attention Grabbing Hook: Are you ready to captivate your audience, your classes, YouTube tutorials, exhibitions, marketing campaigns or blog posts? In this lesson, you will discover how to instinctively engage your viewers using the principle of motivation. This powerful technique ensures your audience is hooked from the very beginning. By crafting an attention grabbing hook or compelling headline, you will seamlessly draw your audience into your content. It's all about what will capture their interest. Join us to master this essential skill. Keep your audience captivated from the outset. Capturing your audience attention within the first 10 seconds is vital. Whether you're presenting online or in person. Consider the clock in my introductory video. It was meant as an attention grabbing into directly connected to the topic we're exploring. This illustrates an important lesson. Attention grabbing intols should always be relevant to the topic at hand or offer a touch of humor to make them memorable. The exciting part is discovering the countless ways to make an impact. As an educator, I found that a variety of techniques work best. You might start your podcast video or blog with a rhetorical question, a bold statement, or an unexpected fact. And see how quickly your audience becomes engaged. I always aim to capture my students attention right at the start and maintain it throughout the session. It's a strategy that never fails. No matter what medium you are using, be it the class, website, or video tutorial, Making a strong first impression is essential. Your audience forms their initial judgment in those critical first seconds, and this first impression significantly shapes their perception of your content. It's crucial not only capture their attention, but also to establish your credibility and make a meaningful connection with your audience. You can achieve this by using attention grabbing hooks, such as bold statements or compelling facts and statistics that establish your authority on the subject. Additionally, sharing why you are an expert in the topic or presenting thoughtful anecdote metaphors, quote, effectively engages your viewers and sets the stage for deeper connection. For example, in my introduction, I emphasize the importance of the first few seconds underlying the relevance of the topic. Once you've captured their attention, continue to introduce your content in a way that remains both informative and engaging. For your project, consider these questions. How can you grab your audience attention with a compelling introduction in your class, blog, newsletter, or video. Grab your viewers or readers attention from the start by applying the principle of motivation. Maybe you can use an attention grabbing hook or compelling statement, or maybe you have another idea to grab the attention of your audience. Understanding motivational theory enhances our knowledge, which can inform strategies for content creation, instructional design, and effective leadership. Therefore, in the next video, we will delve deeper into the power of intrinsic motivation. 4. The Power of Intrinsic Motivation: In 1914, Henry Ford made a groundbreaking move that astonished the world. He offered a $5 per day wage, which was a good pay in his time and reduced to work time 9-8 hours a day. This was a revolutionary change in his era, and his motive was clear to motivate his personnel. This led to the debate about a fundamental distinction between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation in the realm of motivation theory. While Fort championed the extrinsic motivator of money, We now recognize that true motivation goes beyond external rewards. Psychologists stress the significance of intrinsic motivation. This internal drive propels our actions. Prioritizing intrinsic motivators helps content creators craft engaging and meaningful content that goes beyond external rewards. It is important to bring passion to content creation, whether it be in classes, newsletter, or videos as each carries a message that can spark motivation in readers. I've noticed that teaching topics I'm passionate about increases my students curiosity and engagement. This leads to the question of the fundamental human needs that drive motivation. To answer these, we must turn to Maslow's hierarchy of needs. According to Maslow, people first need essentials such as food and water. Once these are met, they seek safety and security. Next, they need love and belongingness, to social connections. Following these, they strive for esteem which includes self respect and recognition from others. Finally, they aim for self actualization, which means striving to achieve their fullest potential and personal growth. This framework helps us understand and apply motivational principles by emphasizing the importance of addressing both social and psychological needs. By creating content that meets these needs and effectively communicates with their audience. Content creators and instructional designers can increase motivation. Creating an environment that supports basic human needs, enhances engagement, and empowerment, seamlessly aligning with Mass insight. Let's dive in and get started. The first thing to do is to create content that will aspire your audience or learners to want to learn more. Think about how you can align your storytelling in your videos, blog, or class, to spark curiosity, passion, or sense of accomplishment in your audience or learners. It's so important to understand your audience when you're creating content or teaching. To achieve this, creating personals and conducting audience research are super helpful tools. Personal are detailed representations of your ideal audience members. They include things like demographics, behaviors, and motivations. Audience research is all about gathering information about your target audience to understand their needs, references, and behaviors. I went deep into this topic in another class, if you want to know more about that. Content creators can use these insights to tailor their content, to resonate with their audience and drive engagement. Develop a motivational ecosystem around your content. To promote a sense of community and shared purpose, individuals can use forums, collaborative projects, or social media groups. This not only enhances intrinsic motivation, but also aligns with Masullos principle of love and belongingness. How can you create an environment that will inspire and support the intrinsic motivation of your community? In the upcoming video, we will look how instructors can use motivation in teaching. Let's explore teaching and motivation. 5. Motivation in Teaching: Since ancient times, educators have faced the challenge of keeping students engaged during lessons. By drawing on teaching theory and practice, we can explore effective techniques to maintain audience interest. A common strategy among teachers is to divide their classes into small units, each focusing on a specific subject. The goal is to motivate students and capture their attention as they transition to new knowledge or skills. This approach is particularly effective in tutorials or online classes, where each video serves as a unit centered around a particular topic. A compelling attention grabbing intro for each video can make a significant impact. Dividing a class into several segments and starting each with a captivating introduction. Keeps the energy high and the students focus. When inspiration runs slow, posing a thought provoking question, tease your audience and reignite their interest. It's incredibly rewarding to see students eyes light up in a live setting or to observe increased viewing minutes in an online class when these techniques are employed. Once you've successfully captured their interest, you can present your instructional content in a way that's both informative and engaging. Teachers often begin with a question or story that connects to their students' interests. Whether you are creating tutorials on programs like Canva or Davina resolve or teaching a class one, let's say, marketing or social media content creation. It is essential to brainstorm ideas that will capture your target audiences interest. Ask yourself, why would they be interested in the topic of this video unit? What value does it offer them? These questions can guide you in crafting an engaging introduction. Make attention grabbing ints and moments in your class as an integral part of your teaching style. To do this, effectively, familiarize yourself with various methods to captivate and motivate your audience. Here are a few examples. The rhetorical question, start with a provocative question that relates your topic. For instance, if you're teaching a class on graphic design, you might begin with, what makes the design unforgettable? This not only picks curiosity, but also encourages students to think critically from the outset. Secondly, a bold statement. Open with a strong, surprising statement that challenges common assumptions. For example, in a marketing course, you might say traditionally advertising is dead. These kind of statements grab attention and sets the stage for deeper exploration of modern marketing strategies. Share a relevant and engaging story that connects to your lessons main theme. If you're teaching a class on entrepreneurship, You could start with a story about a successful startup that began in a garage? This personalizes the learning experience and makes the material more relatable. A fourth example is the unexpected fact. Introduce an unusual or lesser known fact to spark interest. In a cars on digital photography, you might begin with. Did you know that the first photograph took 8 hours to expose Such facts not only grab attention, but also provide an intriguing starting point for further discussion. Engage your audience immediately by involving them in a quick poll or quiz related to the lesson topic. This can be a great way to assess their prior knowledge and to make them active participants in their own learning. Utilize striking images, videos, or music to set the tone for your class. For example, in a film editing class, you could start with a short clip, showcasing exceptional editing techniques, instantly drawing students into the subject matter. In another class in this series, we will delve into the principle of visualization, which complements the principle of motivation we are discussing here. This approach helps to engage students senses and reinforces their learning experience, making it more impactful and memorable. By incorporating these techniques, you can create a dynamic and engaging learning environment that motivates your students to stay focused and invested in the material. Experiment with different methods to find what works best for you and your audience, and make these attention grabbing moments a staple of your teaching style. 6. The Power of Motivation in Branding and Marketing: What motivates your future audience and clients? In this video, we explore the power of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation in branding. A real story shows the power of motivation in storytelling and branding. Have you ever faced a choice of waiting more than 2 hours to eat in an IKA restaurant? Well, I have. Picture these. You are on the other side of the world, strolling through the bustling streets of Manilla in the Philippines. The air stick with tropical warmth, and the vibrant chaos of the city surrounds you. Amidst this urban tapestry, you stumble upon an unexpected ases, a beacon of Scandinavian simplicity, an Ikea shop. It's not only the furniture that attracts visitors. Upon entering the aroma of freshly baked cinnamon rolls greets you, and the promise of Swedish meatballs lingers in the air. Then you see these. Yeah that's me on the picture. I was amazed to see how people on the other side of the world were willing to wait more than 2 hours for a taste of Europe in this Southeast Asian country. This was an example of where food meets storytelling. In food brands, it's not just about the food, it's about becoming part of a narrative. As clients wait, they become part of the story. They're not merely hungry. They're motivated to become participants in an experience, and it's not just Ikea. Brands like Apple, Coca Cola, Nike, and Disney infuse motivation into their narratives. Take Disney, for instance. What words do you associate with their brand? Words like magical, hope, love, and dreams are synonymous with Disney, echoing to their movies, posters, and theme parks. It's time to get your audience fired up. How can you use your story to give them the motivation they need? What words do you want them to associate with your brand? It's no wonder that successful brands use the eight principles of this series, such as a principle of motivation with great effectiveness. Taco Ca cola, for instance, by consistently applying the principle of motivation, but also the principles of action, integration, and repetition that you will learn in my other classes? Coca Cola has crafted cohesive brand that seamlessly intertwines customer experiences with a compelling story and a strong call to action. This is a perfect example of the transformative power of storytelling and branding. In fact, Coca Cola successfully associated this guy from North Pole, Santa Claus, with a product around the world, a testament to the effectiveness of their storytelling. These are just three of the eight principles you will learn in this series. These iconic brands tap into our basic human desires, our need for connection, discovery, and joy. As storytellers, marketers, and educators, we can draw inspiration from these narratives to spark passion and engagement. When teaching a class, you create your brand with your style and consistent content. In future classes, you will learn more principles that will help you establish your brand in teaching and marketing. In the next video, we will discuss the power of motivation in search engine optimization. Wow. 7. Search Engine Optimization: Attention grabbing intols are not just essential for capturing your audience. They also play a crucial role in SEO, search engine optimization. Whether you're creating YouTube tutorials, skill share classes, blog posts, newsletters, or advertisements. These intos are key to getting your content discovered and engaging your audience. In this video, we will explore the dual importance of SEO and motivation in crafting effective attention grabbing intos. Search engine optimization is vital for online content. The opening lines of your blog post, video, or any other material are critical for being found in search results. Search engines analyze these initial sentences to determine the contents relevance to specific search queries. Without optimizing these lines with relevant keywords and compelling hook, Your content may struggle to rank well and reach a target audience. Let's consider an example from one of my skill share classes titled effective Content creation from goals tools Methods to storytelling and connection. This title is optimized for SEO, obtaining keywords like content creation, storytelling, and goals. Terms that attract a broader audience interested in these topics. Additionally, words like tools and methods appeal to specific niches. The first paragraph of the class description further reinforces these by incorporating these keywords naturally. While clearly outlining what the course offers. This not only boosts search visibility, but also engages potential students right away. In a digital landscape filled with constant distractions, you have only a few seconds to make an impression. A compelling, relevant and thought provoking opener can demonstrate that your content is worth their time, encouraging them to continue reading, watching or listening. 8. It's Time to Grab Your Audience's Attention: I'm thrilled to see the incredible intos you will create. Remember to upload your attention grabbing into, whether it's a picture, some text, or a link to a video. Let's collaborate and provide feedback on each other's projects, fostering a community where we can all learn and grow together.
