1. Intro: Hello everyone. My name is Emma distill, artists and creative director. I've been working for
last seven years. I've worked with major brands including United Nations,
Pepsi we deal with. In this class, I'm sharing all my techniques
and experiences. Glide you. So let's
start the class. In this class, I am
going to teach you high-end skin retouching
and recreating skill, the sculpting face shape. And I'm revealing all my
secret different methods and techniques to retouch skin. And we will also learn the streamline workflow
of phase three testing. The class is divided
in two parts. First of all, we will do
the minimum adjustments. Then we will learn
how we can remove blemishes, acne, and sports. Then we will learn a technique which is called
Frequency Separation. This is how we can
recreate the skin. And then we will
also learn how we can play with shadows
and highlights. And then we will
learn how we can change the face shape
with the Liquify, and then how we can develop
and change the shape of lips. So by the end of class, you will have enough retouching
skills you can use in different number of projects
such as art exhibitions, posters, album art,
and commercial use. So let's start the class.
2. Basic Adjustments: So far I have my
picture opened here. So first of all, we will do
basic adjustment for it. We will go to filter and we
will go to Camera Raw Filter. And we will try to make
a basic adjustments. E.g. we need to just increase
the contrast a little bit and we need to increase the shadows a
little bit in the picture. Then we can maybe just
cool it down within here. We can increase the texture and the texture and increase
the clarity in it. So we can just enhance
our shear force. And we can also play
with the curves and we can decrease the loads. Little fingers perfect here. We can just play with
the basic retouching. We can play with the
shadows, highlights, textures if you want to
increase saturation, and then click cookie. After it. We will work on
removing the scars and removing blemishes
to purify our skin.
3. Remove Blemishes / scars : So now we will focus on how
we can clear the blemishes, clear the scars, pimples, and acne from wherever portrait. So let's start. First of all, we will
use the two tools. We can use, spot healing
tool or we can use Healing Brush Tool for the professional courses if you want to create a very
professional loop, I suggest you use
Healing Brush Tool. So I will just like
Healing Brush Tool. I will keep our sample as source and I will
create a new layer. After creating a new layer, I will use sample as
current layer and below. So I can use my sample spot healing tool
from the layer underneath, which is our background layer. And our work will be
on our new layer. So we can, anytime we can
recreate it or change it. So zooming the picture as, as much as you can and
just click the sample nearby and start
reconstructing the image. Removing blemishes, and
removing impurities. You want, just take your time. It's a time taking process. Editing. Is that
time taking process. The more you give time, the more clear it will be, and the more better
result it will. Just take your time and
focus on every detail. Keep samples, select every time. The more close you
get sample from, the more better
result we will get. This. Just take time. It's all about the procedure. Keep it slow so you will get more professional
motivators as you can. Zoom in the portrait. So you will get more
perfect deserves, I think it's perfect now we can, we can make a little
bit more changes in it. Just e.g. we need to clear it
from the north as well. So I will zoom in just a little more to get very close
sample from the nose. And also you can use
other tools, e.g. you can use the spot healing tool toward them
more quick procedure, e.g. I. Will select the
spot healing tool and we can just draw its size. And we will select
sample from our layers. And we can start sport heading. It fits more quick procedure, but the detail in it is less than the simple
healing tool. For the quick procedure
for the sampling. It's perfect. We can use it. After that. We need to know, clear all the
samples and then we can mark it on the
wrinkles as well. Just mark it slowly so you
can get the best result. Also you can, it's not working. You can again use the
Healing Brush Tool. Click on the sample
and reconstruct it. Also zoom out to
your image and zoom in so you can see if
it's working fine. If you are doing a good job, if there is anything
going wrong, keep zoom in and zoom out, and keep seeing the whole image. So you can have the whole
idea of what you are doing. There's a little bit more
and a little smoother to go. We'll need to add some,
remove the project. Well, I think it's good to go. Also we can use for
healing tool again to remove some marks as well from the nose and
also form the spot. This door. Psi than perfect. Yes. Theory is also a technique
to see more blemishes. We will go to our
adjustment layer and we will go to
black and white. After going to the
black and white, we will decrease our red. And then we can see
all the blemishes. And then we can easily work
on the blemishes spores, which are not seeing
in our manual, in our genuine skin. What it will be visible
more in this form. And then we can easily modify
these areas and we can clear it with our spot healing
tool, adjustment tool. It will increase our time
and smooth line our process. It will shorten our
timeframe to merge these layers and to
speed up our first flow. So this is how we can increase our progress, increase our time, and increase our efficiency for the editing of retouching
or our portrait. This is a short technique. I think we are made in
a, blemishes changes. You can take your time
on keeping this class very straight forward
and very, very short. So you can learn that
technique and up for seizure. After that, we will
just erase this layer and our blemishes layer. And here before and after, we are almost made it correct. And then we will
just merge it down. We'll click on the layer and we will just click on Merge Down. Or we can use the
shortcut commodity there so we can
remove the blemishes, removed the wrinkles,
remove them from our portrait and
keep it in the unit. And here we have all these marks in the new
layer that we created. So if we'd done something wrong, we can always erase
it and recreate it. Again. This is the benefit
of making the newly, or we can name it as
emissions cloud over, just be ease of work. So after you are finalized
with the blemishes, you can just merge it
down with the commodity. Or you can just click on the layer and click
Merge Layers. So it will be merged
with your peer group. After that, we will
focus on how we can reconstruct it
decreases the skin.
4. Skin Retouching : Now we will recreate
our skin with the technique which we
call frequency separation. For it, we'll just duplicate our layer to two
layers and we'll name first layer has color and the second layer
as the tax year. So we will separate
our texture layer and our skill to develop more face retouching to
create more editing. Let's start working
on the color layer. On the color layer,
we will go to the filter and we
will go to blood, and we will go to Gaussian Blur. You can use Gaussian
blur or surface blur. It depends on your requirement. I just prefer Gaussian
blur sometimes and sometimes when we need to
speed up our procedure, we can always use a Surface Blur and just zooming the blurry area and increase your blood so your texture will
be failed completely. After that click, Okay, so now we have the color and
just click on the texture. And for the texture, we will go to filter
and we'll go to other, and we will go to high-pass. And we will separate the
frequency of that texture. You can always keep it around
eight or nine, maybe ten. It depends on how much area you want to keep as a texture. I will try to keep the
area in the range of tens. And I'll just click
Okay, after it, we can make it into
the linear light and it will work as
our main texture. After that, we can
always make changes, make variations in it to
keep refining our texture. E.g. on our texture layer, we have so many
unwanted areas, e.g. these areas, these textured areas which have
loss of quality. So we'll just click on the texture and we
will go to our layer, and we will just our Layer Mask reveal all end
with the use of brush tool. We will just remove. We will hide out the areas that we don't want in our texture. For it, we will just use black
color as the foreground. And then we'll start
marking that area. And you can start watching the
difference in our texture. So it will skip lately starts
rooting out instantly. Also, you can decrease the opacity of your texture
anytime to play with it. It's all about how much time you want to spend on a portrait. Much it worth it. So if you are doing it for a fashion photography
or for a big project, you have to, you have
to give it time. So you can make a
very realistic, very realistic retouching
that will cause the IU of people and make
very professionally. After that, we will just
increase our layer mask and we will hide it out from
our basic layer. We will just use
the brush layer, increase our mask,
increase our brush size, and we'll use a
soft round brush. And then we'll just it is all the areas that
we no longer wanted. And Moscow increase or decrease the brush size
just a little bit. And you can play
with to smooth out. And always, you can always
increase or decrease the size of opacity
of your tax year. After that, we will make a new layer between our
color and texture layer. And we will use a brush tool
and we will start sampling, start reconstructing does skin. Will you select the sample? And we can increase
our price side and start constructing
the skin. Increase. Pick the sample again. You can also change the sample positions
from your picker tool. You can just let the
picker tool to get sample. And you can also sample
from five by five. So it will load gets sample
from dead specific pixel, but increase it to every pixel. So we get, we will get the
average mark octet area. Archer, dad, just select the
point and start brushing. It. It all depends on what you want to be with daddy area. To select that area
and smooth it out. And increase the size
just a little bit. And then select that area again and start
reconstructing it again. Select this area. The layers. The nose area. Decrease the brush size. Just a little bit. So you can get the edges. Smooth area increase, you
can always increase and decrease of brush sizes to play with the
deconstruction of skin. So you can get the perfect. It's all about or
are already told you guys all about giving time
to your illustration. Touching the skin. The more time you will
give them more skin, you will get retouched. And after that, we can see
the difference is they're all caps in that picture
in our planning. So we can make
more thrush icons. We can apply a more
strokes to keep it smooth. And then we can
always increase and decrease the opacity
to play with it, to smooth out the
edges of texture. And then we can
also gain play with our texture layer and correct the texture where
it's more correct. We will just use the
brush tool and we will keep applying the texture, but we will just
let the brush mask. And who will use the
white as the foreground to get back our texture from
the nose, from the areas. And then we will decrease
our best thing to 22. We can just slowly decrease, slowly fade the text yet. So we can get exact amount
that we want to fade. It will note feed so much, but it will be very controlled. Fade the texture so we can, we can use it as a
controlled three texturing. We want to control our
texture points, e.g. here. We need to just our texture just a little bit so
we can smooth out our lips. So this is a good technique to decrease the opacity
of your brush. And then playing with the mask to increase or decrease
the texture points. Then you can also again increase the opacity to maybe 30 or 40, I think forgiving
because you can speed up your detailing procedure,
deconstructing procedure. And you can always check in the areas and you can zoom
in and zoom or very node. Perfect. So you can play with that area. You can apply a mask and
apply brush that area. I think it's take time, just, I think the
node is not perfect. We need to decrease
texture just a little bit on the tip of
moles. Get smooth. And also we will
have reconstructed in our Dare to reconstruction, where we were, we were
reconstructing over the area. We select our picker
tool and we'll change our samples to three by
three. It will be fine. I think three by three
when we find them. I play with the detailing
of poverty, texture. Decrease the size of this. So that it's all how
you are thinking, what kind of colors you want
to get from your portrait. It's all about planning. What toward what looks you
have planned on their DVR. So I think it's perfect now. Then we can focus
on some areas, e.g. we can focus on around the
eyes to make them more clear. Then we can use
our texture layer again with the black
as our foreground. We'll click on Mask to feed out these
details just a little. Our retouching get smooth out. This little alone. The eyes and dark circles. Just a little. We can also apply
just let alone edges of the lips make them smooth. I think there's,
there's perfect. It's perfect Now. There so we can separate
our skin into three layers. First of all, color and
then texture layer. And then in the middle, we can reconstruct our skill here without brushing
and masking.
5. Skin shadows/ highlights: After that, we will select all these layers and
make them a group. And we will just convert
into the smart object. And we will merge it down. And we just merge it. And then we will play with
the shadows and highlights. The shadows and highlights. We will just make our layer. We can select the curves
layer and decrease the mosque just a little bit. I think it's perfect. Then we can select black as background to be
superior, our mask. And then with the
brush tool again, we just reveal our mask to the points where we want
to apply some shadow. And also we can play
with the opacity of our brush tool to
control the shadows. I think keeping the opacity to 35 will give a better control. The areas we want to apply. Shadows. Just, it will
look more controlled, more realistic and more dramatic
feeling in our portrait. We're focusing on the fee. For now. We're ignoring the
other body area. So whenever you are creating
your class project, we will focus on all that
ABRs. I think it's perfect. We can also add some shadows on the lips areas just to create
some drama over the hips. We can focusing on height so
we can focus on the baby. Weird. Shadows are already
gave it more shadowy. And also when you think there
is something going wrong, you can decrease or increase
the share of automatically. After that, you can
again make the, again, I've curved layer and
increase the highlights. So you can add highlights on
the areas you want to end. Again, just black as
the background color. And with the backspace, hideout all the mask and
then get the brush tool. You can start applying the highlights on
the areas you want. E.g. I want to
highlight that knows one little highlights on the face and on the
edges or the lips. To make a little detail. All these details matter. And all these details
you will develop your portrait and the
beauty of your portrait. So these small details
are very, very important. Whenever you are
retouching portrait. I will increase the size, this one to my chimney
and this slide yesterday. And I think it's worker. We can apply a little bit here. And I'm just a
little here as well. I think it's perfect. Yes. It's going with our team and
dead so we can play with shadows and highlights to
make drama in our coated. And then you can
just merge it with the background layer.
And after death. I think we can also
adjust the proportion of our portrait to here to limit
our editing to the face. And it's perfect.
6. face shape: Now we will focus on, or we can change the face shape and add and make adjustment
in the face shape. For it, we will go
to the filter and we will go to the
liquify filter. In the liquify filter, we will do all the
magic with the shapes. So first of all, we
have our basic size, brush size, increase
or decrease the shape. And we can hear it, increase
the ISI just a little. It depends on our
likes and dislikes. If you want to increase
or decrease the face, I think we need to slim mode the jaw line
just a little bit. We need to play with
the face a little bit. And just okay Here. Also we can manually do
it with these tools, e.g. we can zoom in and we can just make the lips
shape more bigger. E.g. we can leave the lips and we can make them
a little bit more toward. You can also always increase
or decrease the size. And if there is, if there
is something wrong, you can use the eraser tool. You can use the Reconstruct
tool to deconstruct it again. And also, there are
multiple tools. We can use the upload
tool to just easily make the area of that leaves just a little bloated and
just little bigger. And this tool, we
can just decrease the nose area so it will hold somebody slim
now gone moles just a bit. We can also use it
to slim the above your nose just a little
bit. After that. We can just use solver to
stretch the lips a little bit. And you can also
see the before and after to see the changes too, if you want to make any
corrections in their lips spot. So you get the perfect portrait, perfect faith that you
have in your mind. We can also put around
it just a little bit. These two can just
decrease the slides. I think we go to the
perfect face shape for now. Here is a little
round on this edge. And this is perfect. So there's how you can
play with the face shape. This is our before
and our after. So you can easily figure out the changes in the
face shields for dads, how we can recreate, reconstruct skin
in our portraits.
7. Lips Shape: After that, for the lips will
again create a new layer, and we'll keep this
layer as color. Then we can select the
color which we want to paint on our lips. I'm going to use this dark
red color for the lips. And we can zoom in
our portrait and increase or decrease the
brush size accordingly. First of all, you can just
make this as ignore one layer. So you can just have the exact hoaxing
area of the ellipse. And you can mark the area of lips and you can see
where you are painting. And after that, we
can make changes and additions in dead
area to refine it. We can just reuse it
and apply the brush. And then we can use
the eraser tool to refine the lips boundaries
and hips abs, e.g. I. Will just decrease,
that is a two. And I will find
the area to shape the lives and to give the
perfect shape to our lipstick. Just a time taking process, the more time you will give them more perfect result
you will get. Also, I will use it inside the ellipse area as well
to clear out that t. And then we can keep it as multiple or we can
keep it as color. And then we will duplicate it and we can apply it as multiple. And then we will, for
the multiple layer, we will decrease the opacity to our required effect
of a required area. Just zoom out and then you
can play with the opacity of multiple required color that you like. And you can set it. Your requirement. I think 35 is perfect. And after that,
you can also play with some screen overlay, which style you prefer. It will be going with your lips. And then you can also
make some adjustment. E.g. I'm going to
select the brush again and marking these
areas a little bit. So you can, you
know, you can refine your lips and the
lipstick always anytime. So this is how you can
apply lipstick on your, on your makeup to
keep it more refined. So this is before, and this is after our editing and reconstructing
of skin and paste.
8. Retouching Action: So now we will explore
how we can speed up our workflow face-to touching
it by using the action. For the action, we have
to do it one time. And after that, we can use debt speedup workflow
to create it. One time we have to just select a new action by clicking on it, change the action
name to retouching, and then start
recording the action. So now our action is
starting recording. And then we will
duplicate the layer. And then we will
go to the filter, we will go to the blur, and we'll select
the surface blur. We'll select our radius to 60, sure to 34, universal use. And then we will duplicate
our layer again. And we will go to the filter. We will go to the other and
select the offset hypothesis. And then we will select the
radius around ten or 10.5. And then we will select, Okay, it will change high-pass layer
style into a linear light. And then we will select
its opacity around 70. Then we will group
these two layers. And we will select our layer, layer mask and hide it all. And by the use of brush, we will start doing
the retouching. And till this, our
action is recorded, we will go to our action
and we will pause it. And our action is
recorded and all set. Now, just delete it and you can just select your
action and plate. And it's already all done. Just choose a brush tool
and start retouching. So this is a very
speedup workflow you can use to retouching portraits
in just a five-minute, in a very professional way.
9. Final Project & Results: So here is the final
result of our class. If you have any questions
regarding the class, you can ask it in the
discussion section of the class for the class
project followed by procedures are faced retouching and
retouch a picture and show me before and after of
your face rotating. You can use different pictures. Our picture from the
project resources or from your own gun-free. Use my technique to
reattach the future. First of all, cleaned up pimple, and then start
retouching the picture and then play with
the face shape. And then after retouching submitted in class
project section. So I can give you feedback and
critiques and get a chance to win Amazon gift card or
Instagram Photoshop Presets. Thank you.
