1. Introduction: Hello everyone. In this class I'm gonna show you
how you can use the green screen effect
on an iPhone or an iPad. All you need is
iMovie and you could do some pretty cool
things just like this. I look forward to having
you in the class.
2. What you will need to get started: Welcome everyone. I'm so honored that you have
chosen in this class, learn about how to use the
green screen effect on an iPad or an iPhone before
we start the lesson, here are some of the things
that you're going to need. What you will need is
an iPad and iPhone or an iPod touch that's
running out as 15 or later. You also need a green
or blue screen video and your own video clip. You'll also need iMovie 3, which you can find
on the App Store. If you are going to use the
sample clip that I provided, you're gonna have
to download them directly to your device. And here's how you do that. One of the things you're
going to need is an Apple ID. And you could create an Apple
ID at Apple ID.apple.com. Once you've created that idea, your iCloud account
will also be created. And all you do is you just
go to the website, tap on, create your Apple ID, and
fill in all your information. Once you have all that information
you're going to assign in on your device
using your Apple ID. Once you have your Apple
ID account created, just go into your
settings and you'll see a page where it says sign
in to your iCloud account. Once you have your
iCloud Alt setup, just go to skillshare.com
on your iPad or iPhone, and go into the classroom and scroll down to projects
and resources. And under resources you're
going to see the video files. And all you do is you
just long presses, tap on Download link
file and you're gonna see that the file
has been downloaded. That file is actually stored
into your iCloud Drive. All you do now is just open up the files app on
your iOS device. Go to downloads and you can see that video right there
that's been download it. And what we're gonna do
now is go to move it into your photos library
and reduced tap on that little share button
on the top right corner. And then save video. Once you tap on Save Video, it's going to save it directly
into your photos library. Now that you have the
files downloaded to your iPad or iPhone
or iPod touch, let's get started
with the lesson.
3. iMovie Interface Walkthrough: In this lesson, I'm gonna give you a quick walkthrough and how to create your first
movie project on iMovie. Once you have iMovie
installed on your iOS device, go ahead and launch it. And what you're gonna
see is the section where start a new project will
automatically appear. With the newer
version of iMovie. You're gonna see something
like magic movie, storyboard and movie. In this project, we're going
to create our movie project. So go ahead. Go to the movies section. This is the area
where you can start adding videos or photos
into your movie. But for now, let's just go
ahead and tap on Create Movie. Here we are in our
projects page. This is where we're gonna
start adding videos, photos. This is where we get
to see our timeline. And you'll see right
here the media section. This is where you could access
all your videos, photos, backgrounds, and also
music files as well. Let's just take a look
at iMovie in general. So this is where we're
going to add videos, music, and photos as well. This is your timeline and this is where you
could do a lot of your editing here and
do a lot of trimming, splitting, adding transition,
adding titles as well. Right here, if you don't
have any videos or photos, you can actually
launch the camera app and record directly into iMovie. This little microphone
button is where you can add voiceovers as well. This right here is
the undo button. So let's say for example, you cut something that
you didn't want to cut. You can just tap on this little undo button and it will revert back to the original version
of the video right here. This is the sound
wave form button. Once you click on that, if you have a music or
your own voice-over, you can see the
little sound wave, so you can look at
the volume levels. And we can also change the
project settings as well. So we can automatically
apply filters. We could change the
theme if we like. We can add a theme
soundtrack, a fade in, fade out, or any kind of
speed change pitches as well. In the next video, I'm gonna
show you how you can use the green screen overlay
on your own videos.
4. How to use the Green Screen overlay in iMovie: In this lesson, I'm going
to show you how you can use the green screen
effect on iMovie. One of the things you
have to remember is video placement is
very important. So you want to think
of it like a sandwich. You're green or
blue screen video will be placed at the very top, followed by your own video clip. And the bottom will be
music or even voice-overs. So now that we know that placing the video in the right
order is very important. And what we're gonna do
right now is we're going to use the two video clips
that are in our resources. And again, you can also use
in any videos that you have. I basically have a
video of my desk and also this little green
screen animated character. And what we'll do
is I'm going to put the animated character
on top of this desk. And let's go back into iMovie. And here's how
we're gonna do it. We're gonna go to the plus sign so we can
access our media area. I'm just going to tap on
video recently added. And the first clip I'm
gonna add is my table. I'm going to tap
on the table clip. Tap on the little plus
sign right there. That is our first main clip. And what we're gonna do
now is we're just going to skim back to the very
beginning of the video. So we're at the very
beginning of this play head, which is a white line. And I'm gonna go back
to recently added, and I'm going to
scroll for that video. For green-screen video,
I'm a tap on the clip. Instead of tapping
on the plus sign This time we're going to
tap on the three dots. We're going to see all these
different types of overlays. And the overlay
that we want to use is green slash blue screen. So go ahead, tap on the green
slash blue screen overlay. We're going to
wait till our iPad removes the green background. And look, there it is. We basically remove
the green background from our animated
character and it looks like the characters is
almost on top of the desk. Now if we want to play it back, we just skim back to the
beginning. Let it play back. So after the green
screen background has been removed from the video, there are some times where you might notice
that there's still a little bit green leftover on the edges of your character
or the video with iMovie, you can actually use the strength button to remove more of the
green background. So for example, all we do is just tap on our green-screen
clip right here. We're going to see this little strength button right here. And all we do is we
can kinda move it. And you didn't
notice that more of the green background
is getting removed. And it all depends what type
of green screen video or a blue screen video that you're going to use with your project. Now at the bottom
button right here. This is the drag corners
to exclude area function. And you could do that as well. You can use it to
drag the corners, remove more of the greens. And you could use this function
to remove maybe some of the green edges as well. So those are the two
functions that you can use to make more adjustments to
your green screen video. What if you want to put a cool background with your
own green screen video? For example, let's say you shot yourself the hyena green screen. You're gonna use the same
green screen overlay effect on your own videos. So let me show you
how you can do that. I'm just going to go to video, go to recently added. So here's a video of myself. I shot it behind a green screen. And I want to be able to place a different background
behind the green screen. And I have a background video
that I would like to use. So we're first going to import the background video
into our timeline. I'm a tap on the plus sign. What I'm gonna do
now is I'm going to add my own green
screen video. I'm a tap on the three dots. And again, we're gonna use that green slash blue screen overlay. There you go. So the green background has
been moved and it's been replaced by that cool animated background
that I just added. And I just want to fix some of the green levels
a little bit. Maybe I want to
remove more of the green because I still
see some of it. Strength a little bit
more. There you go. You're just gonna use
the exact same technique for your own green screen video. So that's how you
use the green screen slash blue screen
overlay in iMovie, not in the next video, I'm gonna show you
how you can resize your green-screen video and also move it into a
different location.
5. How to move your Green Screen video in iMovie: In this lesson, I'm
going to show you how you can reposition your green screen video by
using this small work around. You might notice
that my green screen animated character isn't
exactly on the table. If I play it back,
the character is a little bit outside of the table and not really on top of it. Let's make a little
adjustment and let's move this animated character
more onto the table. So one of the things
you might have noticed when I tap on the
green-screen clip, we only have two settings. We can only increase
the strength of the green background
removal or to be able to remove the green edges using that drag to
corner function, you don't see the
ability to move this green screen video
into a different location. But there is a small
workaround that you can use in
order for us to be able to move this
animated character into a different location. So the first thing we're
gonna do is we're actually going to just tap
done on this project. This is a good time for you to rename your
project if you like. So right now it's set to my movie and you can
rename it something else. Let's just call it green screen video and tap Done. And then that's the
name of the project. And what we're gonna
do now is we're just gonna go back to
the projects page. We're going to start
another project. We are going to create a
brand new movie project. Again, just tap Create Movie. Now what we're gonna do
now is we're going to make adjustments to the original
green screen video. What we're gonna do now
is we're going to apply the same concept of
doing video overlays, but we use a different
type of video overlay. So what we're gonna do
is we're going to go to our Media section now
if you don't see it, just go ahead and tap
on the plus sign. And the first thing we're gonna do in this little
workaround is brewing. Go to backgrounds. We're going to add a
solid green background as our main clip. Go ahead and tap on the
solid green background. Tap on the plus sign. We're gonna have our
green clip right here. The next thing we would do
is we're going to place our original green screen video on top of this solid
green background. I'm gonna just go back
to our main media page. Go to video. Go to recently added
him a scroll down to the original
green-screen clip. Tap on the three dots. This time instead of using the green slash blue
screen overlay, we're going to tap
on ensuring picture. So the reason why we use picture in picture is because
picture in picture will allow us to actually move the video into a
different location. We can actually
resize it as well. So let's do that. Right now. We're going to tap on
the green-screen clip. You're gonna see these
three options right here. The first one is pinch to zoom. So you can actually
pinch to zoom in and make the video bigger. Or the main function
that we want to use for this workaround to work is the drag to position, pinch to resize function. So that way we can move this green screen video
into a different location. Let's say, say I'm just kind of guessing
the tables right there. So I want to move the tape, I want to move this
green screen character just a little bit further back, maybe a little bit bigger. Just about right there. And again, I could readjust
the size if I like. So I'm going to leave
it about right there. And you're going
to notice there's that little white frame
around the video. What we wanna do is we want
to remove that as well. So when we tap on the clip
again and we're gonna select the very bottom option. Let's remove that White frame around the picture in
picture green screen video. Now you're going to notice
that solid green background that we first placed in our timeline is
actually brighter than the green screen on
the animated character. We're going to actually
match the two green levels. And we're going to
do is we're going to tap on our solid
green background first and you're
getting immediately notice the color
wheel right here. I'm going to tap on
the color wheel. What we could do is we
could just actually try to match the green levels. We can actually play
around with the sliders. You could play around
with the red level, green level or blue level. Or you can use this
color tool right here, match the green levels. And it's pretty accurate, but there'll be times where
it's not always accurate. So now you can actually
adjust the green levels, the red levels in
the blue levels. So go ahead and just adjust it. And it's okay if
it's not perfect, you're just trying to match
it as close as possible. Once you've finished, just
go ahead and tap out of it. Quickly play it back to make sure this is how
you will like it. And now what we're
gonna do is we're going to export this work around
into a regular video. We're gonna do that
by tapping on done. And again, you can rename this. Particular video, if you like, I'm going to call it small green screen. Again, you can rename it
to anything you like. What we're gonna
do is we're going to tap on the share button. Now. We're just going
to save the video. Now it's going to
export the video. And once it's done exporting, it's going to place it into
your photo library and tap. Okay, and now let's go back
to the project's page. Where to open back the original Green Screen
Video Project. Tap Edit. Now we're gonna do is we're gonna
remove the original video. We're going to remove the
original green screen video. We're going to delete it. Go to video, go to
recently added. I'm going to scroll
down and look for the new smaller
version of the video. I'm a tap on the video. Tap on the three dots. There he is. There's the animated character re-size kind of fit
properly more on the table. One thing you're
gonna notice that is the new green screen
videos a little bit shorter than
the original one. And we can actually
fix that as well. All we do is we just
have to go back to the original small
green screen project. Kind of make a little
bit more adjustments. So I wanted to make this
a little bit longer, match it the way it is. Once you make these changes, you're going to have to
export the video again. If you want to move the animated character
to another location, you have to go back to this
small green screen project, make all your adjustments
and save the video again. And once that's been
exported again, you just go back to the
original projects page. Go back to edit. Remove that video. Go back to video. Recently added. This one's
a little bit longer. This one is 21 seconds, so it's kinda matches
with the table video. Again, tap on three dots, green slash blue screen overlay. There you go. So the
clip is longer now. Now there's obviously
some downsides to using this workaround. So for example, if you want to place her character
in a different location, but you didn't get the
exact location right, then you have to
go back and make the readjustments and I
export the video back out. So for right now, this is the only workaround
for you if you want to move your green-screen video
into a different location, hopefully one day
iMovie will be updated and give us the ability
to do it easily. But for now, this is the
workaround you have to use. Let's now finish this project. So what we could
do is we can start adding some cool backgrounds at the beginning of the video. Make some adjustments
as some transitions, we can also add some
cool titles right here, which is tap on the background. As some titles. Tap on Edit. Go my movie project. You can also add a
transition right here. And it's also add something
at the very end of the video, maybe add another pattern
background if we like, just tap on the plus sign. Again, you could have the
green screen animated character stay there as like if you don't
want it to expand, you can also just tap
on the clip and trim it back down and stay
with the table clip. Again, we've got
another title here. Again, just tap on
titled texts here, edit and type in the end
or anything that you like. And that's also add some cool filters to
our video as well. So maybe our table video, we can add a filter,
we just tap on the clip, go to Filters. Add anything you like if there's a filter
you want to use. And the last thing
we're gonna need is some sort of
background music. So I'm gonna go back to our
media section, go to audio. We're going to tap
on soundtracks now, soundtracks will give you the
ability to preview some of these songs that you can use
for your iMovie project. I'm going to use this
one called melt. You can always preview it first. And if you'd like
it, just go ahead and tap on the plus sign. And once you have
everything already, and I'm just going to skim
through it just a little bit. Maybe I want to add
another title here. Maybe I want my little
character to say hello, hello. I can also readjust
the title as well. I can move it into a
different location and make it bigger as well. Now once you're ready, just go ahead and play back and take a
look at your video, and it should look
something like this. In the next video,
I'm gonna talk about your project and what
you're gonna be doing.
6. Your Project Assignment: It's time for you
to do your project. The bold this project is
for you to practice using the green screen
overlay effect so that you can apply it to
your own movies. After you're done,
you're gonna get some results that
might look like this. The objective is to create your own video and use
the green screen overlay. You can use any green screen
or blue screen video. You can also use your
own video clips. So things that you
might have already on your iPhone or iPad, things you might
have recorded and feel free to use
pictures as well. Don't forget to add
background music, titles and transitions. And I look forward to
seeing your project.
7. Questions?: Now that you know how to use the green screen
effect on iMovie, what type of projects
where you'd be making. Leave your comments in
the discussion area and also post your
videos as well. I look forward to seeing them.
8. Thank you for checking out this course!: Thank you for checking
