the first lesson.
2. GOAL SETTING 101: Start with the
definition of goal. A goal is an idea
of the future or desired result that a person or a group of people envision, plan, and commit to achieve
a goal, an outcome. What we desire the
definition of goal setting. Goal setting involves the
development of an action plan designed in order to
motivate and guide a person or a group
towards a goal. That's why we are
here today to develop our action plan and
motivate and be guided. Usually when we plan
a goal, we're pumped, we're excited about it, we're passionate,
that's what happens. And we think achieving
our goal will be like a straight line. A road. Straight road. We've got it. But in reality, what happens is we come across detours and cross
roads and changes. And we end up with this, which is so many
different choices, roads, it just becomes a
little bit of a jumbled mess. Life is what happens
to you while you're busy making other plans. One of my favorite quotes
of all time by John Lennon. Well, that doesn't mean
you don't need to plan, but it does mean that if you end up with all
these twists and turns, that's when you have no
choice but to adapt. Adapting your attitude is really important to
achieving your goals. Goal setting benefits, well, that's why I'm so happy
you're here because we're all going to benefit
from this experience, clarity, focus, follow a specific
direction and rewarding.
3. GOAL SETTING TECHNIQUES : Goal setting techniques. One of the most popular
techniques is Smart Goals. That is an acronym for specific, measurable, achievable,
relative, and time bound. Let's go over an example
of a Smart goal. A very popular goal
that many women have in the New Year
is to lose weight. If you want to lose weight, it can be very different
from one person to another. You want to be specific. What does it mean to
you to lose weight? Does it mean losing ten pounds, 50 pounds, 40 pounds? That's when we must get
clear with the who, what, when, where, Why measurable? Your goal needs
to be measurable. Let's say I decided I
want to lose ten pounds. Measurable can mean that I would track my weight
and I would weigh myself every week to keep track and see if
I'm losing those pounds. Achievable. Would it be achievable
for me to lose ten pounds in one day? Probably not. So we have to set
achievable goals that are realistic for our
situation relative. Our goals have to be in
line with our color values. They have to be relative to us, maybe in some cases to our
business and time bound, giving yourself a deadline, setting a timeline for yourself, holds you accountable to
achieve your specific goal, which is to lose ten
pounds, let's say. That gives you an idea
of how smart goals work. Here is your little reminder. Let's go over it again. I will be specific and clear with my goals
by taking action, who, what, why, when, where, and then when we speak about when and where,
that could also mean. Well, I'm going to
be exercising in my basement and I'm going to be doing
this every other day. I will measure my
success by creating practical milestones and
tracking my progress. A milestone for myself may be losing two pounds out
of the ten pounds. I will ensure my goals are achievable with the
timeline I'll set. Again, being realistic, I
will work on goals that are relevant and align with my
values and core belief, really prioritizing what
is most important to you. I will hold myself
accountable by setting a timeline and plan to
check in with myself, well, you can hold yourself
accountable to achieve your goal and success by there's different ways you could
put it in your calendar, mark your timeline,
and keep track of that set date to make
sure you achieve your goal.
4. THE 3 D'S: I'm going to take a look
at the three Ds for goal setting, Desired, doing. Let's start with desire. What do you want? What do you desired? Why do you want it? What motivates you? What do you need to do? What action do you need to take? We're going to grab our
pen and paper again, and we're going to
do our exercise. And we're going to
start with desire. Identify your desires and wants. We're going to begin with
a brainstorming all of our wants and desires by rating freely without over
thinking too much. What are the changes
and goals you want to achieve by the end of this year? Simplify your goals. Try to see if you could combine any of these
goals into one. Do any of them work together? The first thing we're
going to do, we can pause this video. We could write down all
of our wants and goals. I'll be waiting for you
and we'll continue. Just take a couple of
minutes to do this, but like I said,
don't overthink. Don't think about judgment. No, want is too big, Just go for it. The next step is
to prioritize them with a rating system like we did before with
the wheel of life. We're going to be using
the values one to three. You will rate each goal by
giving them importance. One being the most important,
and three the least. By doing this, we're
going to realize what we should choose
as our major goal. Choosing your major goals. If you take a look
at your results, you're going to choose
the goals that have the biggest impact of your life. Limit it to one to two to complete the
workshop and exercises. Even you don't want to
overwhelm yourself, but know that you could
always add more major goals. But it is best to focus
on 12, maybe even three. Try to limit yourself. These goals that we've chosen, they should take
priority and come first. Next we're going to
be looking at drive. What's really important
when we're trying to set a goal is to identify our why. What is the reason why we want to achieve this said outcome? What is driving or motivating you to achieve your
desires, wants, and goals? Now, what are the obstacles that may cause you
to lose your drive? I want you to write down
possible challenges, obstacles, or struggles that may steer you away
from your goals. Again, write freely. Pause this video if you
need a couple of minutes. And also I'm here to wait
for you. We will continue. Common reasons why we lose
our drive to achieve goals. Let's name a few distractions. Resistance or why
wasn't strong enough? Low motivation and energy
overwhelm confusion, maybe even frustration. Can you relate to any of
these reasons? Which ones? Once you become aware
of these reasons, you could catch yourself
in your tracks. And that's why in the
previous exercise, I wanted to write, what are the struggles that
often come up for you? Now let's get clear on those. And we could use these in
the future to help us push through when people don't achieve our goals
because of roadblocks. What do we need to do to
avoid these obstacles? We need to plan
actionable steps, just like the definition
of goal setting. We need to put in place a design plan and system
to follow through. And that's when we
get to doing again. We're going to be breaking down, we're going to be breaking down our major goals,
long term goals. We need to list small actions, also known as sub goals, to take steps towards
achieving our big goals. If you've decided on your
one to two major goals, now it's time to break
those down into chunks, also known as chunking. But I like to give
you the idea that your major goal is getting
to the top of the staircase. Each step is your sub goal. As you go up, you
need to achieve your sub goals before you reach destination at the
top of your staircase. Let's try to break
down these goals and look at the next part,
creating milestones. We will set monthly milestones in order to track and
achieve our goals. What do you need to do
in order to achieve your goal by 1,296.3 months? A trick to do this is to work your way backwards
from your major goal of 12 months and going
down to 96.3 months. I'll let you do that
and we can look at why sub goals are
helpful and beneficial. Small steps lead to big results. When we look at our big goals, sometimes it looks
unattainable or it could be intimidating by chunking or taking our small
actionable steps, we slowly but surely get there and we get to accomplish
our major goal.
5. 60 DAY PLAN : Now we're going to be
doing our 60 day plan. Short term goals, we
up to three months, but by looking at
your long term goals, prioritize what will be
needed to be done first in the very first
month, that's 60 days. Break down those
goals into sub goals that you will tackle
in the first month. The other urgent tasks that need to be done in
the second month. Like I said, when you're
going up your staircase, there are certain steps that
need to be taken first. These should be actionable
and executable tasks. Prioritize your sub goals. As you did earlier,
you will arrange them from most urgent
to least important, and you're going
to be focusing on the details and priority of each small step to determine
what needs to be done next. For an example of breaking down a big goal into sub goals, let's say my goal was to create this goal
setting workshop. That's great, but it doesn't happen in the
snap of a finger. There are tasks that
I need to get done, which means that I need to break down my goal into sub goals. For example, I know that I need to advertise my
goal setting workshop. That means that I
need a graphic. I also need a caption. I also need to create an event. I need to be able
to share the link. I need to be able to
have people register. I need to have my
advertisement ready as well. I need to invite people to come. And there are a
lot of things that come into play
before I could have the goal setting workshop
and be here with all of you one step at a time. You get up and up the staircase and you
finally reach your goal, which I'm here with all of you.
6. SHORT TERM PLANNING: Did you know? Research
shows that anything planned more than 60 days in advance
is most likely to change. What happens when
there's change is that we end up seeing all these
different crossroads. We need to adapt. Things are not going in a straight
line like we had hoped for. This makes our short term
goals really important. The 60 day plan is great, but most people still don't achieve their goals
with a monthly plan. Why? Because sub goals
that you've planned for 30 or 60 plus days are simply
not actionable right now. Which makes weekly planning the most important
and effective way to plan and set goals. Number one, a weekly plan allows you to set daily
tasks for the week. What happens when you don't
have a weekly or daily plan? I love this quote that says, either you run the day
or the day runs you. Examples of what happens? Life takes over,
responsibilities become urgent. Distractions, keep showing up, and other people's
plans override ours. If you're not putting
any value on your time, others around you won't either. It's important to have a
plan in order to succeed. Where do you plan to put your to do list of actionable steps? A daily planner, a
whiteboard, a digital device, apps, phone, your laptop, calendar notes, or a planning task
setting app like Trello. Now for myself, I am old school. I am all about the daily
planner and writing notes in my note journal,
looking at those. And if you don't know, yes, I'm a creator and I create
all of these planners, ifever you want to
check them out. But what works for
you is most important and having it where you can
see it and return to it. Creating your to do list. Take your priority from your monthly plan goal and
break it up into sub goals. The most urgent steps
requires priority. You're going to ignore
everything else. Every time you
accomplish a sub goal, you're going to be checking
it off as you complete it. When we check off
things on our list, it becomes really
rewarding. We feel good. You could reward yourself by accomplishing the
tasks on your list, but action before
reward for myself. I'm just going to
give an example. I love to watch Netflix, but if I watch Netflix
smack in the morning, I'm going to start
binge watching. And then I'm going
to get nothing done. So I make it a point
that that is my reward. Once my work day is done and I accomplish three to
five tasks on my list, or as many as I see fit, I give myself the reward of
watching my favorite show. Now what are some ideas you
may have to reward yourself? Is it having a hot chocolate? Is it watching your show? Listening to your
favorite podcast? Is it scrolling on social media? Because these things
can be time consuming, but they make you happy. What are you thinking of trying?
7. THE DAILY PLAN : Back to journals and
planners, did you know? Research shows people who
write down their goals are 42% more likely to succeed. That's amazing just by writing it down and putting it
out into the world. And you improve your chances of success and accomplishing
your goals. Now, the weekly strategy
session is a non negotiable. As I said, weekly planning is the most important
and effective way to plan for your goals. You have to put aside 20 to
30 minutes aside weekly, schedule it to hold
yourself accountable. This weekly session,
you have to do it to assess your
weekly progress, what tasks you've done. Then. I like to do it on Sundays and start
my week fresh with new or unfinished
tasks on Monday. I get to look at really
what I got done and then I get to move forward and
I'm pump for another week. Now I want to ask you, if you achieved your biggest
goal this year, what would it mean to you? In one word, how would you feel? That's why we're
here. We're here to make this our best year, yet, and I'm here to help you. I know how it can be
fulfilling and rewarding. And just that feeling of being proud to get there we got to complete the
process of goal setting. Our last step is the daily plan. You go over your to
do list each morning. You prioritize to get three
to five actions done per day. If you could do
more, that's great. If that's all you can do, well, that's a good benchmark
for yourself. You must ignore everything
else I'm talking about. When our mind wanders, we start thinking of other
goals and other things we plan on getting done and it
becomes distracting. And if you let it
take control, well, then you might end
up moving over to another task that wasn't
even on your list. And that can be time
consuming and it could stop you from achieving what you needed to get done first.
8. WAYS TO STAY FOCUS : This is how you get stuff
done, your daily plan. And one word for you is focus. Now if you're somebody that gets really distracted, like me, here are a few ways
to stay focused. Plan your breaks. If you need that
social media fix or absolutely need to
check your e mails, or maybe your work requires it, schedule it in your daily plan. Stay hydrated well. Drinking water keeps you
fresh and functional. For effective doing,
plan your meals. You're going to need energy
in order to be productive and achieve all your
tasks. Movement. You can't stay seated all day. Rev up your energy with a walk, physical activity or exercise. Turn off phone and e
mail notifications. All the notifications
that we get every second Instagram email. This prevents giving into
distractions like text, social media, and
e mail checking. Turn off those notifications. If you could do even better, keep your phone away. This guarantees that there
will be no interruptions. A distraction free
working space. If you were with people or at home and there are people
in your surroundings, well, sometimes this allows them to start a
conversation with you, ask you questions,
or to do something. So you want to make sure
you have your own space, your own boundaries that
you could set while you're at work and then stay
far from the kitchen. This avoids repeated trips to the fridge or making countless
coffees, like myself.
9. MINDSET: Be aware of your mindset. Are you feeling low energy
resistant, or unmotivated? Are you procrastinating
and not following through? Keep yourself in check. Keep your mindset in check. You may need to recharge with meditation or yoga movement
or physical activity. Changing your scenery may be doing absolutely nothing
for five to 10 minutes, a power nap or rest. A big part of achieving our
goals are your beliefs, sabotaging you, or holding
you back from success. You need to practice
mind shifting. Embracing a positive mindset is essential to
achieving your goals. A negative thought or belief
can stop you in your tracks. It could paralyze
you when you're trying to accomplish a goal. Changing your mindset or belief system doesn't
happen overnight. You have to practice having a positive mindset.
But it can be done. Working with a coach can help you discover what's holding
you back from success. And guide you on your journey
of reprogramming your mind and beliefs as this is the
whole other conversation. But I just wanted to make you aware that your mindset does play a big role in you
achieving your goals. And when we talk about those obstacles and those feelings, we need to be aware of them and find ways to counteract it.
10. TAKEAWAYS: So we've reached the end of our workshop and we're going to be going
over the takeaways. If you came this way. Well, I'm really proud of you, so give yourself a
tap on the back. Now let's go over
some of the things we've learned during
these last lessons. Identifying our core
values and goals. I really hope you got to know yourself a little bit better. What your priorities are
and how you're going to be planning smart goals. Obviously we want to be planning smarter for more success. The three D's really breaking down what we need
to do to achieve our goals. And then long term
and short term goals because we need to plan for now ever later then breaking down our
goals into sub goals. Because all of this
may seem a little bit too overwhelming when we
have this one big goal. So we need to tackle
one step at a time, weekly planning
strategy session. So make sure you have
a plan moving forward, how to stay focused, but we want to
keep you on track. So we needed to do that lesson. And then developing a
positive mindset for success. Well, it all starts
with what's going up there in your head,
in your thoughts. And we all know how important it is to have a growth
mindset to succeed. Prepare for what we need to
achieve in this coming year. Whether you're at
the beginning of the year or the end of the year, it doesn't matter because planning is going
to ensure that you have what it takes to move forward and to
achieve your goals. That being said, what was your biggest takeaway
from this workshop? I want you to think about that. What are the tools that
you're going to be using while you
think about that? Planning gives us
the opportunity to make our goals achievable
and our dreams come true. Well, that's from yours truly. Without planning, it is difficult and it does
seem overwhelming. So once we everything, whether it be to do lists
and writing it down, it definitely helps
the takeaways. Make sure that you
download our workbook, you could really put
everything into practice. And finally, tag at woman empower network hashtag when goals follow
us on social media. And if you want to
follow me Arialce, it is my pleasure to connect. I really hope to see you
succeed in the New Year. Sing you best of luck.
