1. Introduction: You should be happy that
you're watching this class. A goal is a very powerful thing. It's the merging of your imaginative mind
with your logical mind. It's a holistic
brain experience. But the whole art
of setting goals, it's not something that comes naturally to a lot of people. And rightfully so, it's
a very complex thing. And in this class, we're going to take
the complexity out of it and we're going
to simplify it. We're going to work
our way up from the very basics are two, thinking bigger and
bigger and bigger. So eventually we
have the courage and the confidence to
set grand goals. My name is Armand geometry, the founder of our money talks, a media company which
helps engineers and entrepreneurs improve their
communication skills. And if you want to improve
anything in your life, you must learn how to set goals. In this beginner's
class on goal setting, you will understand
what our goals, how to build systems, how to collect data, along with plenty of
other cool topics. And we will wrap up with a final project so you can
drive yourself into action. I look forward to
seeing you inside.
2. What is a Goal?: A goal is a target. There's no reason to first think that goal is a strictly
for self-improvement. Goals are all over the place. Was the last time
you watched soccer. Did you ever hear one
of those commutators? They're like, oh, they're so excited is because
these athletes, they get paid to hit
targets. Think about that. That's what an athlete gets paid for in regards to their career. Their career is
based off of goals and we're capable of
seeing it with our senses. It just helps when
we can use goals and self-improvement
because we're using these targets to
improve ourselves. When you think about
it, a coding is not that different
from self-improvement. A coding is when we are telling
the computer what to do. A discipline is when we are
telling a human what to do and goals or give that mind
the clarity that it needs. So think about it like that. A goal equals a target.
3. Building Confidence: A lot of people think about grand goals from
the very beginning. Now granted, a grand
goal is magical, in my opinion, because it
engages your imagination. It allows you to feel
emotionally fulfilled. It gets your nervous system engaged and a person
that's working towards a grand goal for them
work at it just happens. They don't have to recite
all these different mantras every morning in order to
drive themselves into action. David Grant goal that
is pulling them. But before you can
get a grant goal, in my opinion, you need to build confidence with yourself. And in the next video, I'm going to talk about how to build confidence
with yourself.
4. How to Build Confidence: Confidence is not built from
how many tasks you start. A confidence is built from
how many tasks you finish. Think about that real
quick. Did you ever meet someone who's always starting
these different tasks? They're starting one project now for the next, after the next. And each time they leave
a task unfinished. In my opinion, that's
like having, let's say, a ten people in front of you and you begin tying their shoes. But you don't tie
it all the way. So there's that string
that's running loose. And once you leave
at their presence, at these people are worse off because they're going to be
tripping left and right. You type some of their shoes a, but not all of it. And likewise, it's
the same with goals. In order for us to build
confidence with ourselves, we need to initially get
ourselves warmed up. We need to set goals that we
know that we can complete. In the boxing world. This is known as
a tune up fight. A lot of boxers who's supposed
to fight this big fighter. And let's say this
particular boxer is a little bit rusty. They're going to have
some tune up fights, or they're fighting people that they know that
they can beat. So they're building
their confidence up. And once they build
their confidence up or they shake the rust off. Now, they can tackle
the head honchos. And it's the same thing
with us in terms of goals. We need to have some tune
up goals or stuff that we know that we can complete
from beginning to end. And in the next video, I'm going to teach
you how to do that.
5. Daily Deliverables: Are you going through a
tough time right now? Let's say you're
going to rock bottom. If you're going
through rock bottom, get a to-do list. And in this to-do list, you literally just need
to put one item on it. And this one item you
need to complete. A few years back. I was going through a tough time and something strange
was happening. I couldn't sleep that well. I would end up waking
up early on in the day when it was
still dark out. And I'll try to get myself
to fall back asleep. And I would be successful in terms of
falling back asleep. But then I would wake up
more tired than ever. Eventually, I had an idea. I was like, you know, you're not going to go back to sleep again when you wake up. What you're going to do is
you're going to go to the gym. The gym that you go to Open roughly around the time
that you've been waking up. So immediately go to the gym. And I wrote this down, right? Because when you
write something down, you do a process called
externalization, where you take it from
the internal world into the external world. That was the only thing that
I had on my to-do list. Go to the gym and says I'm doing it automatically in the morning. I got that goal done
early on in the day. And by doing that,
what I started to do was I started to build
confidence with myself. I realized that, whoa, my subjective reality just influenced my objective reality. I wonder if I could add
something else onto this. So eventually I joined
a meetup club, right? And we would go to a meeting
or roughly a onetime, a week or so now, I had a weekly goal. Once again, are
successful and have built more confidence
with myself. And it just started a
flywheel effect from there. So what you want to do is find that one goal that you know, you can do from
beginning to end. And the more that you do it, the more that you
can add upon it. And the more that
you add upon it, the more that goal-setting
becomes real for you.
6. Build Systems: There's a lot of debate between
a goals versus systems. Some people swear that you
need to lead with systems. Other people are like, no, you just need a goal. I believe you need both. Because as you are consistently
executing certain goals, you're going to notice data that's happening
over and over again. And once you have that data, you are capable of fixing
up the process. Okay? That's what a process
engineer does. They're just making
things more efficient. Thus far in my day, after plenty of days
of data, by the way, I realized I consistently
do the same acts over and over in order to
have a grand goal. For me, it's a consume,
create, market, meditate. These four tasks are
a part of my system. But I wouldn't have
known this for particular tasks if I
didn't have any data. So the main thing I
believe you should do is you should get that goal. You should start putting
yourself into action. Eventually, you will understand how to set goals in
regards to your life. Soon you will have more data. From the data, you can
create processes and systems which further advanced
you towards your goal. My friend, systems and goals were never
meant to be enemies. They were meant to be friends.
7. Grand Goal: Now is the time that I hope
you are interested in. This is what I call
the grand goal. I don't like it
when someone comes up to me and they're like, What is your life purpose? There's a reason why. I don't like answering that question. I believe what your grand goal, you keep it as a
secret to yourself. The reason why is because I think about what
enthusiasm means. Did you ever observe and
enthusiastic person? I've met a couple in my life. And each time I've met
the enthusiastic person, they had that level of energy that was just
a part of them. And some people, like as a kid, they were enthusiastic, but other people had it
later on in their lives. That's when I learned that. Okay, what enthusiasm? It may be natural, but it can also be trained. And one of the most effective
ways in order to train enthusiasm into your
existence is to have a secret with
yourself that you build a relationship with.
Think about it like this. Imagine that you're in this dark place with a particular friend and there's a monster
that's chasing you. Here's the thing. This guy is going to
be super nervous. But for some strange
reason, you're not nervous. The reason that you're not
nervous is because a couple of minutes before someone told you that this
monster is actually your friend that's pulling
a prank on this guy. So you know something that
this guy doesn't know. You're able to experience this entire situation with a completely different
emotional state. This is the power of
having a certain secret with yourself when you know something that other
people don't know, it gives you an extra
step and the step, the grand goal is
highly subjective. What is considered a grand
goal for one person may not be considered a grand
goal for someone else. So the more that you are
experimenting and you're consistently tackling
a micro goals in your day-to-day life. The more data that you gather, the more systems
that you build over time in a cumulative way, you will be presented
grand goal. And once you have that goal, I keep it to yourself. The more that you keep
it to yourself at, the more enthusiasm
that you will build. The more enthusiasm
that you will build, the more that you will be
invested in this goal. And once you are
invested in this goal, work at, there will never
be a problem. Again.
8. Bonus Tip: Created Plans: So the bonus tip is to execute a program that's already
been built for you. I'd like to consider this, the training wheels
of goal-setting. And I'll give you an example. One of the first times
that I did a program that was created for me
what's called a P90 x. If this was a 90 day
workout program, that would give you the
body that you want it. At that time, I really
wanted apps and my buddy who had trouble staying
consistent with P9 dx, asked me if I would like
to be his workout buddy. Soon we started to
execute this program. I was amazed because
this guy was telling me exactly what
to do from the program. His name is Tony. And Tony was telling
me what to eat. You're selling me. I want to do yoga or how many
pull-ups to do everything. And by the time the
90 days were up, I was already looking different. So at times, if you're
finding it highly difficult to set your own
goals or create a plan, a follow-up plan
that's already been created for you and execute it. At the more that you execute it, the more that you understand how to tackle the UPS and the downs, how to deal with motivation
and fleeting motivation, and how to be true to the
word that you set out. So this is the bonus step. Find the plant that's
already been built for you and just executed
from point a to point B. A, build confidence
with yourself and eventually a, Be
creative yourself.
9. Final Project: For the final project,
I want you to create your own personal to-do list. This list can be highly simple. You can literally get a piece of paper and just put
one goal on it. But here's the thing. You need to execute, the one goal on it. You can add more
goals if need be. But make sure that you executed
from point a to point B. Once you are done, you can post the actual to-do list in
the final project section. Or you can create a
report that shares the item that you put on your to-do list.
What was it like? We're going through
a tough time. Did the goal a drive
you into action? How did you feel? I get
as detailed as you would like and post it in the final project
section right on below. I look forward to looking at it. I thank you very
