1. Welcome: Hello, guys. My name is Gabriel Felix and welcome to my course. I will explain all the step by step how it works, use simple words. This tutorial is for beginners. I will start with the practical part showing all the step by step with several types of examples. And then we are going to learn about the most important parameters and, of course, learn how to work with gig and compressor. Tutorial is going to be very important, especially if you practice rock have metal, or if you enjoy tropicorHme music, turn on your computer, turn on your die, and all the software, tune your guitar, and let's learn how to use compressor engage. 2. Gate: Let's start with the practical wins part. Then we'll move on to the technical side, learning all the settings for its effect. Both the gig and the compressor are used on all music instruments, as well as neration and voiceover. We will begin with the gate. Since these effects are easier to explain by seeing rather than just hearing, let's look at the computers gram. I'm going to use the per and the bias effects too. But I'm not going to use the gate and the compressor of the software. I'm going to explain with the Gaitor compresor of the ripper. Let's take a look. This is a gait. The most important thing is this setting right here and right here, the output mix. In short, gate cuts any sound below a level that you set, for example, let's see if I set this level right here. Gates going to cut everything below this volume. Check this out. Let me see another example of better one. This one. I play the song and I play some muted port. As you can see, he cut the volume, right? You get everything below this fragrance. Once again. As you can hear, we have a volume cut right in this part right here. So I just so other dust bell, 5.7. Sorry. I edges just like here, 28.6. As you can see, he's not cutting anything? So you hear the noise and all the problems that a very strong distortion give you us. Let's listen once again with the setup in 28.6. So it's not cutting anything, so let's put once again. I equals around here, let me see. Oh, it's less. So now, works perfectly. So any sound below this 12.6 will be cut by the gate as shown in this spectre right here, or this one you can see as well. So start fast, right? Cuts everything. Be careful because if you cut too much, it can make the sound real bad, especially if your music has volume chains. So, for example, if I put too much, I'm not going to hear my sound. As you can see, it's playing down the gate. I sound of music. But with the gate, I I'm cutting too much, right? So sometimes you cut and you do cut, you have the git and not the gate and this is really weird to be careful about it. This effect is very common rock guitar, as you can see, it works really well. For instance, the git removes all the noise from the distortion when my riof get quieter. Let's listen to the end of my gait. Sorry off my song. Let's check the sport right here. And you have in the gate. Let's listen down the gate. Nice rough noisy, right. Noise from the software noise from the amplifier, so be careful. Many musicians and music producers use these effects to clean up excess sound that might mess up the mix. Example, noise like this. 3. Compressor: Okay, let's take a look on the compressor. The compressor works in the opposite way. Any sound above a specific level set by the musician or the producer will be compressive. It's like you have someone holding the door so you can get through. So as you can see the marking, any sound above the specific level is the compressor. This effect is very helpful during the mixing, especially if you accidentally play a bit louder than usual. Let's see. I play I play this f here very strong, very loud at this scenario. The sport right here. Okay, and putting toomd compressor, right? It me minimize the effect. Usually, we just put a little bit, okay? So spa right here. Going to play very strong. Bam, bam. So dug the compressor? With the compressor. The effect is very helpful during mixing, especially if you accidentally play a bit louder than usual. Of course, this effect should be used lightly without going overboard to avoid, make your sound feel artificial. Many musicians with untrained ears might not note the difference, but they are extremely important because every detail matters in so. Let's put you much compressor. All this is being compressed. So as you can listen, we lose volume, right? It's better now. Let's use both effects, okay? Compressor and River. So let me see this month. A Okay. That's perfect. Now you're going to use the gates. Very nice, isn't it? Of course, you have other types of compressors and gates. For example, let me see right here. Let's use the compressor and a gate by the software bias effects. As you can see, we have a different parameters and just three parameters, the compressor, we just have two. Let's listen to the sound. Cut the volume, but this time he didn't cut the volume too much, just a little bit. Remember, when you're going to use the gate, the first parameter that you need to take a look is the desk bell. This one right here. Or if you are going to use torpedo, you need to see the threshold. This threshold is going to set the desk bell that you want to get to apply the gate. Of course, if you're going to use the compressor, you need to two parameters, the two most important one. The threshold, as you can see the name is right here, and the output mixing, especially this parameter right here. In this case, we have this parameter. But if you use the pedal, you don't have, you just have the output. That is the threshold, the same thing as the threshold and the speed the speed that the compressor is going to compress your music. Now it's time to talk about the most technical part, isn't it? The parameters inside the 4. Compressor - adjusting Settings: Now it's time to talk about the most technical part, isn't it? The parameters inside the effect. This time, let's start with the compressor. So let's see. First parameter is the threshold. Now, as I told you before, this is the levutt which the compressor start working. When the sound goes above this level, the compressors kick in. Rachel, is what right here. It's another very important one, this control, how much the compressor reduce the sound. For example, with 4.1 ratio, if the sound is four times louder than the threshold, it will only come through as one time louder. Let's put 41. Cool, isn't it? Let's put in zero in. Let's put in seven tree. Sounds vigorous. Let's low the Rachel. Sounds a little bit different as well. So let's stick with four. Tag that is parameter right here. This sets how quickly the compacts react after the sound goes above the threshold. A fast attack gets cuttle loud sounds. Word, a slow attack, let some of the loud sounds pass through. So strike. Very slow attack, right? As you can see, it's not. Impressive. So if you put a fast attack, are going to compress, very fast and a lot of thin, right? So be careful about this attack as well. Most of the guitar pedals, you have the threshold, the attack, and the output mix. But sometimes you have other parameters, such as the makeup gain. In this case, it's right here out makeup. After compressing, the overall sound level may be lower. So the makeup gain but the sound back up to the desired level. So for example, if we are compressing schmut we just put makeup and we have a little bit more volume. It doubts Mat. Morfi. You can use the compressoring vocals, keeping single level steady, instrument control, smoothing out the sound of instruments like drums or guitar. Overall mixing can be used on the final mix. I really enjoy this type of effects in the final 5. Gate - adjusting Settings: The most important one gate is the threshold. As I told you before, is this one right here. Like compression, the gate has a level that determine when it's open, allow the sound or cross block the sound. If the sound is above this level, the gate opens if it's below it close. This is the idea of the gate, the threshold, the importance of the threshold. All the petals, you're going to have the threshold. It's the most important setup in a gate. Other one is the attack time. This one right here that most of the petals have. This sets how quickly the gates open when the sound goes above the threshold. Let's try. Put some slow tempo so As we see. It's not going to it's not going to gate everything. Okay? So let's put very fast, and you're going to see you're going to listen the effect. Once again. Very nice, isn't it? This is very common. Another one is the release time. This parental right here. This sets how quickly the gate close when the sound drops below the threshold. So let's try. As can listen. It's very slow, so it's not going to gate everything. Let's try in the end of the song. As you can see it takes a lot of time, right? So the gate starts right here. But let's change the release and put very fast. Much better. Starts right here. Can you understand the difference? It's much more easy when you see the parameters next. You can see, I explain just the most important parameters of each effect. I'm not going to explain hold the low pass, high pass, this type of thing, because most of the gates in the compressor just have a simple setup. Like in the bias effect, as you can see, this compressor have just two parameters. This other one just three parameters. So let's stick with the base and with the most important parameters. Gates or noise reduction or just gate, right? We have several types of names. Get out background noise when the may sound isn't present, like with vocal or drums or guitars. In drums, the gait is a late drum hit by removing the sound from our instruments. This is really, really important in drums, just because we are going to record with several types of microphones. Both compression and gating are important for making music sound professional. Compression helps manage how loud or quiet sound are while gating remove unwanted noise and clarifies the important sound. Learning how to use these tools can significantly improve your music mixing and producing skills. 6. Final notes: Thank you so much for watching my course. I hope you enjoy. Now it's time to prax a lot. Remember that you have the course, okay. You can watch all the lessons over and over again. And please take a look on my profile.
