1. Class Intro & Welcome: Andy is expert a freelancer on Upwork and Fiber Pro with over $1 million in freelancing earning since 2022. I have worked with a client with the scrappy early stage of startup to fortune 500 companies with a global reach. And here, big thing I have learned finding clients is only half of the battle, the real secret, the part that makes freelancer stable and sustainable to keep those clients happy, so they hire you again and again. In this master class, I'm going to take you through exactly how I have found those clients and how I keep them for years. The little things I have done that keep the pipeline full without burning out. 2. Pinpoint Your Ideal Client Avatar: Point your ideal client Abata. The first big mistakes most freelancer makes, they try to work with everyone. When you try to appeal you water down to your message and you end up attracting project that doesn't excite you or don't pay enough. You need to define your ideal kind Abata. Let's break that down. Dist user base. Think about the industry you have already delivered great result for or one you understand deeply. For me, cybersecurity and Cloud technologies become my sweet spot. I understand the pinpoints and the jargons and the regulations they care about. That means my proposal instantly feel more relevance to them than a generalistic would. 3. Size Your Business: The businesses. Are you better with the solo freelancer who need to speed up and flexibility or small to medium businesses that want a trusted partner or enterprise client who care about process and compliance. Work with those mix, but big take it security projects. I target medium size to enterprise because they have both budget and the long term needs. 4. Identify Project Types You Excel At: Project type you Excel at. Be honest here. What kind of project lights you up and socas your strength? Maybe it's a branding project, full stacked, built or marketing funnels. In my word world, it's things like the Microsoo 365 security audit incidents, response playbooks, and Azure migration. Example, when I niche down to Cloud security and stop pitching to generic IT jobs, my wind rates jump out by more than half. My average project value double. Again, for you right now to pause the video and jot down your top two industry, your preferred client size, your top three project type, put those somewhere in visible so that save every your proposal you write. 5. Build A Magnetic Portfolio: Build a magnetive portfolio. Once you know when you take or who you are talking to, your portfolio need to scream. I am the right choice for you. Most of freelancers just list their services, but clients hire based on outcome, not task. Instead of saying configured Microsoft sentin say reduce security incidents, resolution 50% for a healthcare provider handling sensitive patient data. See the difference. One is talks about task and the other one the story with a measurable resolve. Every portfolio piece should include the problem the client had, what you did to solve it, the results you delivered. A visual where you can screenshot, dashboard, before an up to matrix, before people process visual faster than text and they stick to the memory. If you are new and don't have many clients project, create sample case studies by solving problem for a fictional or volunteering client. I did a few unpaid security audit for a non profit early on just so I could build credable examples. And those examples help me to land on my first gig pay job. 6. Leverage The Warm Network & Referrals: Leverage, Worm network and the referrals. You first and the base sorts of clients, people who already know you, and that might be past colleague friends and professional connections. And even people, your local community. Here is the key. Instead of saying, Do you know anyone who needs a freelancer, which is vague or put all the work on and be specific. I'm looking for work with a medium sized law firm that need help with document security in a Microsoft or 365. So do you know anyone I should talk to? I also makes it worth while they refer to. That could be a referral fee, a small thank you gift, or even a bit of the free consulting. I once offered a free 1 hour security audit or every audit for a referral that lead to a paid project. One of those referral turn into 20 K contract. First project excellence. Lending a client is great, but how you handle that first project will decide if they stay. Here what I say over communication. I spin updates before they ask for, deliver early possible every even day early build trust and add Wow something small that are valuable outside the scope, maybe quick report, checklist or extra visualization. Call it first project hello. It will glow. Let's keep them coming back and recommending you. And write up an action plan. Finding and keeping clients is a cycle. If you define your ideal client, create a portfolio that speak to them and tap your worm network and deliver the outstanding first experience, and you will never struggle for work again. Your action step, define your client, update your portfolio piece with a result focus case study, reach out to your five people on your network with a specific ask, do those three things this week, if possible, and you'll fill that different your pipeline within a month. Thank you. 7. Deliver On Your First Project: First project excellence. Blending a client is great, but how you handle that first project will decide if they stay. Here what I say over communication. I spin updates before they ask for, deliver early, if possible, every even day early build trust and add Wow something small that are valuable outside the scope, maybe quick report, checklist or extra visualization. Call it first project, hello. It will glow. Let's keep them coming back and recommending you. 8. Start Today & Write An Action Plan: And write up an action plan.
