1. Introduction: prince meeting is the art of creating artworks or imprints off markings from one surface to another, like paper or fabric. Hello. My name is Mr Yarrow, a mixed media artist and teacher in northern Ontario. And I would like to introduce to you how to make your own prints using for, as for me, is an easy material to find and use. This course is more or less an introduction into the world of prince making, and in this class will be learning how to create our very own Prince. Using form stands as this is a beginner level calls together In this class, we would learn and end up making our very own stamps in which we will use to create a limited edition wall art print that you can keep for yourself. Give to a loved one for even self. Please join me in this beginner level cause on how to create your very own lovely and unique art prints using form stamps
2. Class Project: as this. A beginner level class. The aim of the project is to learn how to create a set of stamps that we can use to make an art print. We would learn some form stamped making techniques on how to use them efficiently as form stamps have bean used, especially in the mixed media arts circle. I will be teaching what I have learned over the years using this technique. This is not a replacement for Lina cut printing, but it is a great way to know if Lana cut Printing is a skill you would like to pursue later without having to invest a whole lot in materials or supplies first. It is also a great way to pick up skills that you can apply in other parts of your arts practice. For example, surface design off fabric prints making
3. Materials/Supplies: for this class here, the supplies you will need to create your own form stamps. Here are the materials or supplies that I use when creating my form stamps. A self healing cutting board. I have some craft glue here. A pair of scissors of ballpoint pen, an Exacto knife, some sponges, makeup sponges are actually great in applying paint as well. A pencil. We have our form itself. It's good to have a ruler bio side as well as treating people. A good alternative for tracing people will actually be parchment people they can easily find at your convenience store. For this class project, I will be using the Fabbiano paper, the rough one based on personal preference alone. Andi, I will be using craft paint as well to show you that you don't need to use exclusively printing ink for this project. I have got sarin here as an option as a retired er to help in extending the moisture off our craft pains so that they don't dry off too quickly on our form stamps
4. Care and Maintenance: taking care and maintaining your stamps is relatively easy. Here are the things that you can do to ensure that your stamps Lhasa's longest you'd want them to. For example, I have had this particular stamp here for about five years now on it still works as good as new, and I believe one of the reasons is because of the backing itself. As you can see, it's a shipping books that I have used here on that has helped in maintaining its shape without it having to stretch due to excessive use. Another way is to ensure that my shipping boxes or my cereal boxes are well sealed using varnish. This ensures that limited amount off moisture goes into the backing itself and makes sure that it doesn't fall off at some points in time while using another tip is limited, wiping down off the pains from your form stamps, and the reason is to reduce the amount of friction that your stamps would end up going through while wiping them down. They would always dry off, and you can always use them repeatedly again, even though you are using different, different paints for different projects. If you do however, wants to wipe down the paint. Wipe it down while it is still wet and not let it dry out, and you can use a damp tower toe. Wipe off the extra paint on your form stamps. Storing your stamps is also easy as well. Ensure that they are kept in a nice, cool environment where there is enough airflow to allow them to dry off, especially if you have been using them lately. Try as much as possible to keep them away from direct sunlight or heat source, as this can actually affect the surface itself, as will be creating a set of stamps for class projects. Here is one way that I keep a set of stamps together so as not to have any missing parts. Now These are examples off a set of stamps that I have used in creating these different pieces here, and what I have done is that I have created a little envelope using some scrap paper to ensure that all my pieces are always together and they do not get missing when I put them in storage and to make it easy to find in storage. I have used one of my test runs as a cut out peace, and I pasted it right on top of the envelope here so that we all of my pieces are together . Nothing ever gets missing, and I know how to easily find it when I'm looking for this particular set off stamps. And now that we know how to take care and maintain our stamps, let's go ahead and create some will start out by creating a shape cut, Stan.
5. Techinque 1: Shape-Cut Stamp: a ship cut stamp is relatively easy to make. It is all about making a stamp out off the shape off your subject. I start off making a ship cut, stamped with the number of circular shapes. A shape cut stamp is great for making backgrounds or repetitive prints. Once I am done with drawings off my circles, I cut them out with my pair of scissors. Then I give them a good backing with cereal boxes glued down to my shapes. You can either use craft blew our hot glue gun to ensure the form stamp holds onto the serial bombs. Make note of the little webs that come when you use a hot glue gun and trying not to get any glue on the face of your stand. Good and in the placement, you can see that I am trying to make it as random as possible so that the stamp can end up having a really organic look. This helps in giving it an organic flu, especially when it acts as a background or repetitive prints in your work. And while we wait for the first stamp to dry, let us go ahead and meet another stamp using stripes. And now we get to test the stamps that we have made. Here is my scrap paper. You can actually use any kind of people that is available to you, as this is just a test run that we are going to go through right now. I have already prepared a mix off my acrylic paint. I will be using the serene as my retardants already ahead. And what I will do is I have my sponge here, which is a little damp to help in picking up the paint, but not too much so as not to make the paint watery on its own. Yeah, let's try out this second. And now we can see that our stamps here are actually working fine, and we can keep testing them as many times as we want. A ship cut stand can be any formula like it's to be. For example, here is a basic shape off a woman who is actually wearing a traditional head care. And here are the details or the detailed form stamp that goes along with it. So here is an example off what are cut out sheep is that can easily be used as a background . Another example of the ship cut stamp would be this other funds over here. And this is the form stamp with the extra details on its that would help in showing off this as its background. One way you can make a ship God stamp is by tracing out Ah, cut out of the sheep that you would like on your form whereby you trace it out, and then you now cut it out again. To have your ship could stamp here for this part of the class, you can go ahead and create your own ship. Cut stamp. Please note how much moisture you would need in your pains to create a decent imprint of your stamp. Look out for trouble spots on your print to know where you would need to apply more pressure and use the stamp continuously with one cut off pains to see how much pain she would need. As you keep on going with the class, please show you a work in progress as well as the interesting quotes that you may have seen while you keep practicing with your form stamp
6. Techinique 2: Marked Stamp: among stamp is generally your form stamp with markings etched into it. This is a great way to add details into something like your shape cut stamp. You can add details like hair doodles, even faces as well, and this is a great way to give your form stamp unique details that would bring out the best in your design. For the March stamp. I will be watching some lines, doodles and waves into my phone as I want the markings to be deep enough, I am using a ballpoint pen for this. You can also use a sharp pencil took pick or wooden skewers as thes would give you clean lines. Then I also grew down this form stamped onto my cereal box to ensure that it has a good, nice firm backing, and I also tested to ensure that my lines are edged in properly. Ah, good practice in creating mark stamped is to ensure that you have a sketch first and know exactly what you want to do before you start etching into your form. This way, you avoid any kind of details that you mean not wants to show from your form stamps for this part of the class. Create a stamp with markings in it and let's see, The prince also notes the places that you would need to create more details. As this would show. The more you practice, you can always make your markings deeper to ensure that's the prince comes out neat and clean and exactly how you would like them to be. Please share your progress as well as the interesting quirks and markings that you have seen or created while trying out the smart stamp. Always look for trouble spots as thes are places that will let you know where you need pressure while creating the imprints of your stamp.
7. Technique 3: Cut-Out Stamp: the cutout stamp is where you deliberately cut out pieces or parts of your form stamp in order to create a really detailed stamp. This is where the negative and positive off your image comes in, whereby you take out the negative parts and leave only the details you want to appear or be imprinted in your print. Making the cutout stamp is relatively easy, as long as you know the positive and negative parts off your image. For example, I will be making a very simple, uh, stamp here of a leaf. So I go over it again. Just make sure I knew exactly where out wants to cut out. And there this is a very basic design of a leaf, and what I have done is I've made sure that I know that this it would be my positive parts , which would be where I'll be leaving behind to make my form stamp. Meanwhile, the species all over in between the leaf itself I will be taking them out on those would represent my negative species, and that is where your cutting board comes in. Before cutting out everything, I tried to make sure I take out the inner parts first before cutting out the the shape itself. And the reason is so that it does not stretch out on me on play around with the shape itself. Another after cannot the inner parts at which I would want to be out off my stamp. I will now go ahead and cut out my full stand. And there I have my cut out stamp and once the glue has dried, you can now cut around the stamp. And now we test our stamp, okay, and I'll be using a makeup sponge as it is also a really good alternative for applying paint. And now we have our cutout stamp, which works really, really well. And now, in this part of the class, you create your own cutout stamp. Look out for trouble spots where you would need to apply more pressure for your imprints to come out just right. Use the stem continuously with one court of pains to see how much pain she would need. As you progress along with your practice and shale work in progress as well as the interesting quotes that you may have seen during your practice with your form stamps
8. Combos and Sets: another. You have learned how to create form stems using the's techniques. Let's see how to create combos using these techniques, either two or three of them to create unique stamps. And now I will be combining the sheep cut stamp as well as the marked stamp. Now, this is one easy combination that usually helps in making a very quick stamp, and you're able to do so much with it. - So this is a very quick drawing, and what I will do next is to cut her out as cleanly as possible. If you have ah, cutting mat as well, you can easily use your Exacto knife to. And here we have a very quick stamp off a lady in a bikini so ready for summer right now, using both the shape cut stamp on the mod stamps technique to create this. Now let's do a test run to see what she ends up looking like and see where we may have to make some, um, more deeper in imprints in there when cutting a shape caught them. I find it easier to use when I am able to cut us closely to the shape as possible and leaving just a few places where I can easily hold the stamp while applying the paint on it . Because that way I wouldn't have a mistake off the imprint off the cereal box or the shipping box on my work itself. It would just be exactly what I want. That is the form stamp itself. It caught us closest possible, and we can leave like this area here to be able to hold it well and apply the paint on it. So let's go ahead and test out this time. A good practice to keep is making as many tests as possible to know how much moisture you would need, especially in your paint on your brush. Here, for example, would show you that I had way too much moisture in my brush, which is why it ended up smudging this week. Andi. To avoid such things, you need to know how much moisture you need in your brush to be able to make a good impression off your form stamp. And this is a combination off a ship cut as well as a March stamped form print. Combining all three techniques is a fun way to make a really creative and unique stamp, huh? - And now that I have marked my stamp, I can now move on to making or cutting out parts of places that would not like to show up in my imprint. So, for example, I will go right for the top here, as this would be where the leather is for the talking drum. I will take out some of the triangles here a swell. I would also take out thes two and also this space as well. - And there I have now cut out the parts at which I would call them the negative parts for my stamp. And now it would be to cut out the shape itself from the extra stem form around it. And there I have my competition stamp ready. Apart from creating combination stamps, we can also create a set of stamps that will be used solely for one art prints on imprints or Siri's. Another way to combine these techniques would be to create a set of stamps. For example, I have thes two sets of stamps that I have made one often insects and another off a traditional woman wearing a traditional head gear. The woman with head gear has to ship cut stamps in different variations as well as they cut out stamp, which gives it all the details that she needs. I also went along as well and kept the sheep off it, which would end up giving me a nice background if I would want to use it. The same goes for the insects stamp set as well. I have the ship cut stamp another ship cut stamp with a cutout on also a cutout stamped with the mark with the mark technique in it as well. And these four would come together to create one look.
9. Inspiration: the sky's the limit when it comes to inspiration for your class project. One way to see if your image is strong enough. It's his. Turn it into a black and white picture for you to see both the positive and the negative side or spaces off your subject, where the positive side are the details that you would leave behind while the negative side will be the species that you cut out or mark clip art a really great way to create a form stamp because they already black and white, you can see the positive and the negative spaces on the relatively easy to find online. You can also use one of your drawings as well to create your own form. Stamps. Share with us what subject you would like to turn into your form stamps. What kind of combinations you would like to make with your form stems on. Also, how many in a sets that you would like to create
10. Make Your Stamp Set: using the techniques we have learned along this class, I will be creating a set of stamps that I will use for my art print for the class project. I will be using one of my digital drawings to create a set of stamps. Here I will be using my tab as a light box. I have a little bit off plexi glass here. Tow. Avoid touching the surface as it is sensitive. I have my pencil as well as a piece off parchment people. That is also a great alternative to tracing paper. As I have drawn out the image of what I would like for my stamp, I will go ahead and imprints this on my phone. And now I have gone ahead and made two copies off my drawing, using my parchment paper to transfer my imprints onto my phone. As we have done ahead in our class, we have hand drawn many off our subjects street onto the form. One way you can also do it is to cut out pictures that you really like and trace them back onto your form. The only difference with doing that, as with using a tracing paper, is that it would. It would be the mirror image. As I have to imprints off my drawing, using my Parchman people, I will end up marking on one of them the places that I would like to have or leave as my positive sites for my images, while this would end up having more or less a marked out stamp technique to it, and now we have marked out the places at which would end up creating without cut, outstanding and as I have marked this out there, some spots that I would really not want to show out. When I end up making an imprint of this, so what I will do, especially for the eyes, for example, I will run my pencil over it, thereby creating a little bit of fun and grieve there, especially when it comes to little details like thes, sometimes cutting it out. Me not be as easy as you think. If you have a problem with cutting it out, you can easily just deep in it to ensure that it doesn't pop up when you make an imprint of your work. And now I will go ahead and cut out my stamps to pull it out cleanly. I will use some asking T, and this would ensure that it doesn't lose or stretch or fall off them. It's actual sheep.
11. Make Your Print: Here are some tips I used in ensuring that I have a clean space on also clean hands while creating my art prints. Tow. Avoid any kind of mistakes. Always have a damp towel right beside you. This allows you to easily and quickly wipe any spot off pains that you find on your fingertips or your hands. Have scrap paper lots of it. This is a great way to ensure that paint or your imprints does not show up where you would not want. It's too. Have fun. This is a great way to allow happy mistakes to take please, which would let your art prince be as unique as it can possibly be. Explore and tried different types of colors with your form prints. Black is a great color to use, especially when you want some strong details to show. But it doesn't mean that it should be the exclusive paint that you always use for your art . Try as many colors as possible as many combinations as you want, so I've gone ahead to glue them down to some cereal boxes to ensure that the stay nice and firm, and what we're going to do now is to do a test run to see what our stamps end up looking. So now I'll make an art print using the stumps I created throughout this class. Here's an example of what I would like to make today, as we can see, because this is already a test run, I am able to know where all my little trouble spots might end up being. And that is where we always have extra paper close to us because we would always make our very first print here before we know, make a second print directly on our paper itself that we're going to use while our print. So I've made a cut out of our stamp and I will place it right in the middle off. Ah, people here and the reason I have done this is because I don't want the backgrounds to end of showing through our subject here. So this cut out would end up blocking any stamp or any pains that would probably end up showing up around it. And this would give us a very clean space toe, allow our major subjects to be the focus of everything. And so what I'll do here is I will stamped this twice as we would have the 1st 1 and then would also have a ghost print. And this would end up giving its two looks where one is stronger and the other is more or less like a ghost of it. And that way I'm able to fill up the space, the background without having too much of the yellow spots everywhere. And now we're done with the background. And so I will peel this off and there I have my space, nice and clean for the next, - and there we have it and you can make as many as you want on. You end up picking out the one you prefer the most, or like I said, it would end up becoming a limited edition off your work.
12. Conclusion: congratulations. You now have your own set of stamps on also a limited addition to go along with it. Do not stop creating form stamps as disagree. Tree to act texture on details into your work. It is also a great way to create stickers on also a product line as well, especially when it comes to fashion. Design.
