Introduction : Innovation is changing things. In today's world, innovation is important to the advancement of our society because it solves problems and makes our lives more efficient. You want to be part of this change, or even better? Do you want to be the generator of a change? To reach innovation, we need to develop a set of skills. Big innovators are not just born like that. If you are looking to join this course, that means you noticed that you need to be more innovative or you want to be more creative and come up with any new ideas. And indeed, we live in a world that is progressive, so fast that if we don't keep up the pace, we will stay behind. Companies that have a vision are looking for creative employees. For employees that are not just following daily tasks, but also see how things can become better. Being more innovative adds value to the business and helps you stay ahead of competition. This short course is just a start for you to understand what exactly you have to work on in order to develop the skill of being more innovative. The main purpose of this course is to show you how to create the mindset of an innovative person. Once you have innovation as a culture, either it is on a personal or professional level, you will always be looking to make your work process or personal routines better, more efficient and productive. Innovation is not solving learned to be done once for a project or a task. And that's it. It can be implemented in everything if you choose to see its benefits. Even in the small things. We will start the course with defining innovation and then see who can become innovative, or better said, what is required to become innovative because anyone can do it. Then we'll go through the process of how to create the right mindset. I prepared for you some examples and stories from an amazing book that I used as the reference for this course, along with many other resources that I researched. As this course is just the start of learning how to be innovative, I strongly recommend you to take this full course. But you can find on my profile, let's start. 3. What is Innovation?: Innovation is not only one thing, it's a package which you deliver, and it contains three main components, value, opportunity, and impact. There's a common misunderstanding that innovation can be reached only if you are born creative or if you're working in a creative environment, many people save, their job is boring, not creative. So how can we enjoyed, how can we have fun? How can we come up with ideas and be innovative? Problem is not in the job you have. Not the job has to be creative. You have to be creative. Of course, you need practice, constant work on creativity to master it and to use it to make it an invisible skill, something that comes out of nowhere. It can appear in a blink. It has to become an invisible discipline around problem-solving in a creative way. Look for perfection when you look for one idea. Because vet one stupid idea that comes first might evolve into something perfect which time? Look how to cultivate ideas to create a culture of being creative at any level of a company. It's anytime of the day and from any source, even from how the garbage bin looks or stand somewhere, then ideas will be converted into value for customers. That is what ultimately brings revenue. Don't make it a goal to come up with ideas on how to make money. Come up with ideas, how to give value to customers. When the culture is created, it becomes a way of leaving, it becomes a mindset. Same way you live. By some principles. Your way of working can be based on continuous search for innovation. Innovation can be about simple idea that has a huge impact. And that idea can be about anything from the simplest process that at first glance might not be big, but it's about having a system, a creative process for fostering innovation. The search for an idea is what will shape the innovative process. How are you going to get the innovation done? That is what you have to learn. The search if an idea is a process, It's about taking an opportunity and transforming it into even more opportunities, is a blend of practices and components. It's not only one thing at the base of it. There are concepts to be implemented. Core theories have to be put in practice. There's no use of finding a good idea if you don't implement it. Same with the process of innovation. There's no use if you are listening to this concept. Learning about them only by taking actions, you can actually know what works best for you. The blend has many components. Maybe some of them will not suit you and it's okay. There are others. Try them and choose. Same like buying a new outfit, you must try to see if it fits. You don't try to be unique unless unique means to you to come up with something new out of existing. The best and simplest definition of innovation is given by the x CEO of JetBlue, David Neeleman. Innovation is trying to figure out a way to do something better than it's ever been done before. Remember, we said innovation is a package. Let's consists of value, opportunity, and impact. Innovation is about the value that you are creating by taking opportunities from there and delivering that value in order to create more opportunities, but ultimately will have a big impact. 4. Innovation is not..: Innovation is not coming up with something new. Most of the products we have today are things that got improved over time. They were not invented at once as they are. Now. Let's take the same phone. But one thing that we use so much was it invented, as it is now. Know, it took a 100 years, more than a lifetime to reach this stage of performance and innovation. Why didn't people satisfy themselves with the old phone? Because we made it easier to use, because we had to adapt towards progress and mobility. We had to make the stationary phone become a mobile phone. So it fits the societies requests and needs. And of course, make it more beautiful and comfortable as we want our lives to be. Innovation is not first of all about improving the technicality of a product, but to create a greater value to the customers. Society, to create satisfaction. An elegant solution that comes after the process of innovation means a simple solution, but so powerful, that covers a complex problem. Small and simple ideas, but with grand effect and significance. A simple idea of innovating something is coming up with an optimal and efficient product or service and improvement with the least effort. While a handful of game changing innovations can be traced to stroke of genius, the vast majority of effective innovations result from a rigorous search for the optimal solution. Of course, happy accidents, aha, moments, night, dreams with brought up some of the inventions that are not repeatable, but they're so rare. You cannot just sit and wait for them. You need to look and create roles, moments by searching for the better solution, by taking risks, through applying small steps. So it covers the big lips. Innovation is how to achieve big leaps. For small steps. Small step will not just take you to the best final result, but also create a system and the culture that will later on help to come up with another idea. Chasing the perfect model. But not by waiting to reach the best and the perfect in one step all at once. But coming up with small steps each time. An amazing innovation will serve the people who use it. An amazing innovation will shape people's minds, change them for the batter, creates new behaviors and will lead to even better processes and lifestyles. Even an amazing innovation is like a great leader who inspires and motivates, do even greater things. It contributes to the general well-being of everyone by its simplicity and the great impact it brings. 5. Who can innovate?: Are you an innovator? Maybe not everyone is born a genius or very talented or creative. But all of these can be achieved by being eager to learn, by being energetic and wanting to change something to make it better. Characteristics you need if you want to be friends with innovation, is adaptable, flexible, open-minded. Three, thinking, strong decision-making, committed, and courageous. Work like an artist or work like a scientist. A combination of both is the best. Because at the end of the day, the best innovations are combinations of art and science. Be maybe an outsider, not listened to those who want to stop you. Not listen to the non-believers or the envious ones. We will always exist because they are afraid of changing something. Ignore those who disapprove you unless there's some experts that are also into innovation and maybe they are really encouraging you and just tell you that you are making the same mistakes as them. So you can just skip them and focus on something else. So you need to know to understand if someone wants to help you or not. 6. Creativity and Originality - part of Innovation: Innovation involves creativity and originality. There's a big stereotype that artists are the only ones who are creative and can bring originality. However, we can all be artists in our own fields and use different tools to create and innovate. We evolving world requires everyone to be innovative. Otherwise, you stay behind and no one needs you. Companies need innovative people, creative people because of the speed of everything changing. If you want to be the best, innovation is part of it. There's no way you're going to reach the top. Without this skill. Being original is not easy. You still have to fit the environment you are in. Because at the end of the day, you are innovating for them. At the same time. You have to bring them something new, something to impress. But this suitable to the people's needs. Bringing up something original means bringing change. And change is not easy to accept. It's one of the biggest fears of humankind. Being regional within the skills and knowledge you have. But at the same time, outsmart hours and offer something valuable. Quiet the hard, mission. Hard, but not impossible when you are innovative. Being innovative and the Regional means not to come up with the greatest ideas ever. But we'll blow the minds of everyone. But to simply make the process better in your own job. It can be such a simple change of procedure, but with the result of saving money or time or employees energy, or even at a personal level. All of the above. Don't wait for a company to change your job to be better. You look for improvements. And we're necessity change or claim that change to the management. Innovation is really having an efficient outcome. Why wouldn't we change it? It can be as simple as one action change only. And it's not about innovating at a company's level, but at an individual's level. However, continuously doing that and adopting innovation as a culture, it will bring the big idea that can blow minds as well. Or the whole process will become better. Remember the definition of innovation. Do something better than it was done before. Make best use of what you have at hand with the skills you already have and the resources available. Every year, our work gets more complex. Business gets more competitive, jobs, get more specialized. Carriers get less stable, goals, get more challenging. Deadlines. Titan budgets shrink. The pace of change, just keeps accelerating. How are you going to deal with all of that? There's no choice than to get more creative and original. 7. How to be original and creative?: How to be original and creative. First of all, know yourself. In order to use the best you have. You must know what it is. What kind of person are you? What skills do you have? So you can hone those skills. Be innovative in the field, you know best. It's easier and more efficient. Because in that area, you are more confident and you know, better what needs to be done, what flows that are you have experienced and you know the processes. You also might know what was done before and what it doesn't work, or how those ideas maybe can be improved and make it work. Be creative about something that you like. You cannot be fully creative in a job that you hate and you constantly look for a way out. Your mind is just not interested to invest in something that you will leave or you want to live now, maybe. You can now give your best and you can come up with ideas in the area that you love the most. And you are so passionate about it, but you want it to be better. It's like having a child and wanting it to grow and become their best. And loving. What you do is not enough. You must know why you do it. What is the ultimate goal of the company you are in or your own job goal. This way, you connect more. You need to know why you would spend energy and time to be creative and innovative. Knowing your why will always give you a reason that is much more meaningful when knowing your title, your identity is in why you are doing what to do. Not in the title you have. But job is not creative. But our job is to be creative. How to be creative? By exploring, keep asking yourself, what can be done better? Is there a better way? What is possible to do within my skills and possibilities? Because you need to know your limitations and explore amongst them. It is possible. And the world-class musicians proved it by giving us amazing melodies. By using the same eight basic nodes. We all know how they put them together is where they manifest. Creativity and innovation. Be curious. Exploring means, asking questions and looking for answers. Offer. Milan Cassandra once said, I ask questions. Uh, stupidity of people comes from having an answer for everything. The wisdom of the novel comes from having a question for everything. Don't stop being curious. Even if you're old. Have you noticed how we ask less and less questions when we start growing up. It's either the parents who are tired to answer and they say stop asking so many questions. Then there is this bad stereotype that was created that those who ask questions don't understand things. So they are stupid. They stopped questioning and slowly, slowly, we just adopt other people's truths because we are told to us without ourselves asking, is it actually true? So we just learned what is out there, but what is out there longtime back, it was not present. Somehow. It was discovered. If we stop asking questions and exploring, how are we going to find out what more we can have and what more is there to discover. 8. Innovation - part of your behavior: It's not about coming up with great ideas and being super talented. Instead, learning and developing the process of being innovative and adopting it as a behavior. Start with what is right in front of you. Don't go far. Improve what is the nearest star to your daily work, your desk, with your work process. By doing that, you will have small steps of development, meaning small increments, that leads to excellence. Again, you can reach excellence in one big step. It's about the length of advancement, but in a continuous resistant way. To continually innovate and make things better, you need to get faster at it as it's time-consuming. Also, you're aiming for quality, isn't it? And obviously no one wants to make it too costly, Otherwise, the whole point is lost. Being productive can help in this case, as getting faster It's something and still maintaining the same cost and time means you get to know better, more optimal ways of making the same product or service better within the same time, you managed to do more with the same available resources or maybe even less. Of course, when we aim for a better process or product means we aim for quality. Giving value to customers means giving them quality. But they're expecting this quality at the same price or not much higher than before. So innovation will teach us to give more quality at the same price within the same time. This happens when you become so good at innovation. This is possible. Whoa, there will be many who will compromise on the quality for a lower price. At the end of the day, those people might become unsatisfied customers and they will not return even if the price satisfies them. If you look at all the big ideas, big products and brands that we use daily nowadays. Most of them are just improved versions. Very few inventions but stayed as they are from the beginning. Same phone and computer you're using daily, the clothes we wear, and so on. It's evolution and the desire of people to always improve things. Almost everything is based on something that already exists. It's something old, transformed into something new by convergence, by combining several things, by adapting, or by making it smaller. Another reason to make innovation and culture and discipline is that it doesn't really work all the time when you program innovation. Yes, sometimes in companies that happens like this, folks, now you're going to gather and brainstorm and come up with ten ideas. Yes, This might work, but the best ideas don't actually come out randomly. And when it continuously look for innovation, it will come out without ordering it to appear. And everyone has to be involved. Not only the high managers, but any individual at any level must know and have confidence that when they find a better way to do something will be listened to and encouraged for more, to look for more progress. If you are a manager, be open to listen to your team members ideas and encourage them to give, to come up with something new because they are very front liners. Be so committed to what you want to innovate that you enter the customer's shoes. You feel and want the same as him. Whoa, you are different. You know exactly what he's looking for. Vo he doesn't know it yet. We are not born, are taught at school, unfortunately, how to create systems of work. Systems on how to think. So we need to create our own. We are more taught to believe in something. And then we combine multiple beliefs and we create a system of beliefs that later is impacting our thoughts, actions, and behavior. Your idea, in order to be an amazing idea, has to fit the environment it was created for. You cannot have something new in a place that relates to your new product. It will not work. The idea has to relate to the place, to the culture, to its principles, its content. It's like having a painting fitting in a frame. If it doesn't fit, then why this frame for this painting otherwise? Change the frame. If your idea doesn't fit to the place, put it somewhere else, or change something in that specific environment. 9. How to start being innovative?: Learning is how ideas turn into actions. Innovation starts with learning, accumulating knowledge on a daily basis from everything happening around you. If you know your environment fully, you need to go beyond it and learn what is out there. How can you come up with something new if you don't even know everything about the old. If you dare to say you know everything about one area, you are fooling yourself so much because the word is progressing so fast, there's always new information to discover. You are smart as long as you admit, but you can constantly learn more and more. At the base of learning is learning how to think. Learning is not just about absorbing information. It is about analyzing what you absorb an understanding it learning to think will make you ask questions. Wondering about things, not just being spoon-fed with everything you need, but understanding what you also need to learn and how to do it best, then you need to apply what you learn. Otherwise, how will you know it's good information? Or if it works, you have to get the experience and from it. You will also learn what I hear. I forget what they see, and I remember what I do. I understand innovation. We'll start with a question. How can I improve this? What is in front of me? What do I want? What do I need to do to make it better? By coming up with multiple answers, you will have multiple options to apply and see which option works better by experimenting, by taking actions. First, you question what you need to improve, then you do it, then you reflect how it worked and then act or apply the best option and make it your innovation. The next acronym is a four-step way on how to solve a problem. Investigate, conduct fact-finding needed to fully analyze the problem or the situation. Design, generate ideas and solutions based on a complete investigation. Execute, conduct an experiment to quickly pilot a solution or a design prototype, adjust, assess the results, and improve the design based on user feedback. And this is a wave that problems can be solved. 10. Conculsion : Here we are analyzing this short course and innovation. I'm very grateful and happy, but you decided to work on this skill, but it's so demanded on both personal and professional levels. As you saw, it is very important to understand that innovation comes from us. First of all, we cannot just wait and see until a great idea comes to us. We have to take actions in order to reach to be innovative actions like knowing yourself very well, knowing your product, your service, your work process, and so on. You cannot improve something that you are not fully aware of. Being open to other people's ideas, trying things, practicing creativity, setting goals, and achieving them. Putting yourself in other people's shoes, being committed and courageous. Asking questions, analyzing and reflecting and taking responsibility on creating a mindset of having innovation as one of the skills. Taking small steps towards this mindset will help you reach the big ideas you are aiming for. As you are aware in this short time, it is impossible to touch on too many points and give you enough practices on how to be more innovative. That is why I recommend you take the full one hour course to find out more specific practices with real examples and activities that you can implement. Check the full course on the same platform or contact me so I can direct you. I hope this was helpful for you and I'm happy you decided to develop your skill and be more innovative. That will definitely add three or value. And soon you will see improvements if applying them and taking actions consistently. Good luck and see you soon.
