Fineliner Doodling: Learning to Super Doodle!

1. Intro: Hello, My name's ESPN, and I'm a freelance illustrator and photographer from South Africa. Today we will be creating a themed Super Doodle using fine liner inking pains. A super Doodle is a type of deal drawing, which consists of very intricate, entitles based drawings all packed into one page. In this close, our teacher to create the seemingly impossible illustrations are using a systematic and simple approach. This clause is for anyone who wants to improve on their fine line or inking and doodling abilities. If you have never doodle before, I will be going over a few handy tips to help you get started. I'm really excited to see what you guys come up with, so grab your pain and let's get started. 2. Project: The project for this close is to create a theme, Super do using any theme of your like we're in choosing a theme. Try to choose one with a wide variety off characters or items for my Project. Joe's book Amman, Generation one. As my theme, which had more than enough unique characters for me to choose from, feel free to also use broken mourn as your theme if you'd like, however, you can even use themes that are completely different, such as food, travel or even adventure time. 3. Preparation: as you may have seen in the previous media, acquiring reference images is key to producing a themed Super Doodle. I usually create a folder on my desktop, full of all kinds of reference images that I found all over the place and for my theme, Super Doodle. I created a folder specific to doodles to use as reference. Sometimes you need a little bit more help than just a few images in a folder. So what I did for my Pokemon super duel is I went to the website called Perk ammon db dot net. And on this website I found all the information I need it and images for my super doodle. You can see all of the Bergman's names are listed. So if I wanted to maybe CRB Jota looks in all kinds of forms or in different generations back in front, this website is perfect. As for your tools, any kind of fine liner in campaign will work. I used 0.1 for baselines and details Europe on five for outlining and 0.5 for fine Details were fine shading. I also use a mechanical pencil for the under skitch. As for the kind of paper you will need. Why don't we use Piper? That is about 1 20 to 1 50 G's in. It's a bit thicker, this out so sweaty palms. But I think you lose thes often. So I just throw my duels in my whole skin, sketchbook this else, keep them organized and be in the same place. 4. Undersketch: the finished it is to start placing your characters on the page, throw one near each of the corners off your page and then place one near the middle. Remember to rotate a few of them to help with the illusion off chaos. Then keep on placing characters between the ones in the corners and there's in the middle. While placing your characters tried to incorporate overlapping in the design as it helps convey the idea off depth and complexity. Think about which lines or features of the characters will overlap each other. This helps reduce the chances of thinking airs when the inking phase arrives. Don't worry about adding too many details in this face, especially in the background. After the initial thinking face, we will add background details. Inking Base Lines: Now that we have completed our under sketch, we can start thinking the baselines off our super doodle first grow the basic outlines and simple details off your characters. After we have drawn over the entire under sketch without being, we'll move onto the next phase, which is outlining, As you can see in this time lapse video, I've really started in the four left corner off my page to prevent smudging. Remember to keep overlapping and character placement in mind as you're in key. If you find yourself struggling to draw clean and straight lines with your fine liner pain , try to do the following. Take a deep breath before drawing a line, as this helps you to calm down and concentrate, practice drawing straight lines and ellipses on another piece of paper. Take a short break and come back to try again. Like I said before, I like to use my 0.1 fine liner pain for this face. But feel free to experiment with different pain sizes. Here you can see I've completed all my baselines and I can now move on to the next section , which is outlining 6. Outlining: The next thing to do is to go over the outlines of your characters once again with a thicker pain. I normally use a 0.3 fine liner for this trace over the outlines off each of your characters with your pain this well, then pope out from each other and the background on legal over the outlines of your characters. Do not think in the other lines again. If you find yourself struggling to keep to your baselines, go practice drawing straight lines and ellipses. 7. Background Details: next, you can even start filling in the background with your details will start sharing your characters. I prefer to shed my characters lost, but it is entirely up to you. I like to full my backgrounds with things that you can draw easily yet in many different ways clouds, smoke wires, sludge bottles, oil, water, basic shapes, anything that I can draw without thinking too much. As you can see in the video, I did do a quick under sketch of the background details, however, do not feel obligated to do this as well. Be sure to jump over the page while filling in the background details to make sure you don't add too many details in one area. If you did your outline incorrectly, you will now see your characters pop out of the background. 8. Shading & Details: the lost thing to do is to shade in detail your characters to help them stand out even further from the background. For this phase, I normally use my 0.1 and 0.5 finer pains. Add finer details to each of your characters, such a spots for or scales. Normally, if I color in my characters of my pain, I tried to leave a small white cap between the outline and the inner color. This adds a nice touch, especially for characters with a shiny exterior. This might also be a good time to revisit your reference imagery to help fill your mind with ideas on how to add details and shading to your characters. For the shading, adding slight cross hatching lines to the edge of your characters features will help bring them forward of it. Try not to overdo it like I did in some places. Offer the shading and detail ing is done. Wait for your ink to dry and carefully raise the pencil under sketch. If it is still they Now, let's take a closer look at the aforementioned shading detailing techniques. Here you can see where I filled the character with black but left a small wide line at the age here, you can also see where are added cross hatching to add shares and depth to my characters. Small speculator highlights have been added to some off the eyes and other shiny objects such as tender Krul's hate orbs. You can also add shading or color to the background if you'd like. A black ink background normally also looks nice instead of a wide one. So that's about it for what I have to teach you about super doodles.
