Meet Your Teacher

Hello/Bonjour!

My name is Izabella and I am an artist-educator residing in Edmonton, Alberta. I hold an MFA from the New York Academy of Art and a Ph.D. in Art Education from the University of Alberta.

My life is dictated by the politeness and comfort associated with being a Canadian, and the emotional excesses of having a Slavic soul. Life is rich and beautiful and I am on a quest to explore it to the fullest. Art has always been an integral part of my life, though painting suits my personality the most. I feel transplanted into my own magical world, while standing in front of an empty canvas; there is always a new beginning with an infinite number of possible endings. I like this very much.

Throughout the years, the human body has been a main source ... See full profile

1. Faux Stained Glass, Introduction: Hello bonjour. Welcome to my new menu course. They're false stained glass masterpiece. My name is Isabella assurance key, and I'm the artist painter residing in Edmonton, Alberta in Canada. It is my pleasure to introduce you to an exciting project that imitates the beauty of stained glass in an art form, the materials we will be using are very easily accessible. Simply go to Dollar store and purchase 80 per cent of them. The rest should be in your studio. The course is divided into sections of which each introduces you to next step or following step in the process of creating a false thing glass. These steps are easy to follow and easier later on to recreate in your own artworks. So don't worry, they are very easy to follow. So without further ado, let us begin this artistic journey. Have fun. 2. Faux Stained Glass ,P1, Sketch: First, you have to choose the image that you want to include your painting. Of course, the surface on which you will draw the outline for your painting. It's important as well. I have chosen my sunlight board, covered with white paint on the top surface. You can also choose a watercolor paper. And as long as the paper is quite heavy, this should be enough. You also can make a choice in terms of the shape. I made the decision to have a circle shape. You can decide for the square or rectangular shape. Everything, all such the assertions are up to you. You will draw it, should be consisting on lines, no shading or tonal changes in the bowel. Remember, we want to capture the essence of an image as well. Remember that we will be working with shapes, imitating pieces of glass connected with lines are metal pieces. Our lines will be later covered with hot glue to imitate these metal lines. Please don't use a medium. Soft pencils such as HP on to p to complete your sketch. If you will rely on to soft pencil such as four or six P, You bet smudges on the surface of your paper or board that will be difficult to erase later on. 3. Faux Stained Glass ,P2, Hot Glue Lines: Our sketch completed, and now it's time to start working with the hot glue gun. The first thing that we have to think about is what kind of gun we will be using. We can use the small gum 2-tuple for younger artists. And if you are a teacher, definetely for your students from grade three to nine. Otherwise, you can use the regular hot glue gun, the one that time presently using. And just be careful that you don't burn your fingers. Make sure that the hot glue gun warms up for approximately five minutes before you will start using it. This way, the probability that the lines created with their hot glue will look more or less the same. Remember that you only cover the lines created with pencil. And you try to move the hot glue gun with the same speed. Don't rush. Move it slowly. We also want to make sure that the lines are of the same height. This is especially important when we will apply acrylic gel or if you chose 401k medium. All to the shapes outlined by the whole two clue lines. Therefore, if the lines are not applied evenly, make sure that you go with the second player of color application on the top of the pencil lines. Before you finish your work. Make sure to check that all pencil lines are covered with hot glue. This way. You will prevent and surprise. Also. Check that the outline create on the rim of your either paper if you use such or my son, I like in my case that this line has an extra, extra height. I mean, the glue line has an extra, extra height. 4. Faux Stained Glass ,P3, Removing Glue Treads & Surface Cleaning Up: The hot glue lines are completed. And now it's time to remove extra glow threads. Happened why we apply a hot glue. I like to use a toothpick. You can use the tweezer will help you to make this job easier. Remember, Hello thread will later on be visible through the transparent or translucent layer of acrylic job. So the more precise your job will be completed at this stage, the better your work will look like. So make sure to check the sides of your board or paper. Because often they are also some traits of glue left on the side. From time to time. You can wash your hands and dry them up because trace of graphite left on the surface will smudge why you are trying to clean up the surface. Therefore, it will be important. It's, you will also use Windex also and water on the piece of cloth or paper towel to make sure that you clean up and the pencil smudges from the surface of your either paper or my sunlight for because I'm using my sunlight, I can rely on the Windex piece of cloth or a piece of paper towel to clean up the entire surface from any smudges. Incase of paper surface. Just have to use a good quality eraser. Since we will be using a pouring medium or acrylic job. Transparent. Painting mediums. You want to make sure that the surface on which you will create your image is clean. 5. Faux Stained Glass, P4, Acrylic Paint Layer: Finally, we can start painting. My suggestion is to use acrylic paints. For this stage of our work. I would know, such as the use of tempera paint. Since this pain is not as helpful as a credit. Mix the colors that you want to apply into particular shapes. But make sure that the colors are not too dark. You can even go to three tones lighter of the intended final color of particular section. Also, the way how you apply the Carlos is a very, very thin paint application. You want to cover the surface, but at the same time, you apply as slinky of paint as possible. Don't be worrying about covering the glow lines. They will be painted separate. And that will happen in the last phase of working on our painting. This page, all what you have to do is to choose colors for all the sections of your painting. All the shapes with boundaries created by the hot glue lines. And then applying the paint. Opec. That means completely covering the surface of the board or paper. But in the way you will apply paint evenly as little as possible without visible mark making. If you come with the paint on top of the blue lines, that's okay. Rather cosmetic blue lines squished, paid. Leave space. I'm leaving it pure white. This one later create problems. If you want to have some gradation in columns, different tones. You can also do it at this stage. However, I like to do it while moving to phase two of painting. Let's be at this stage. When I'm applying a crying child. ****, need to notice, place how careful I am feeling out. All the white tops. In my artwork, how the paint is distributed. What I liked about the use of our query is that they try quite fast. So when I have to change the color, I will just let the paint dry, which should not take too much time, and then can apply their quiet changes of color. In case of oil paint, it would take. They only do two or three days before I would be able to apply. Changes. As you notice, I don't use transparent colors. I even need extra wives of the colors that I apply to make sure that all my colors are opec. The brush that can use flood branch, the Plenty of their sites. They might not even dimensions of the size of your artwork could be smaller or bigger. If necessary. You can also use a pointed brush with which you can complete your art board. In terms of details. For example, filling out a small gap between a micas, a petal, and just to make sure that no one spot slab. Why working on filling out my shapes. I'm also considering the adjustments of proper tones. Because love older leaves, polygamy paths have to be of the same tone. I can add a little bit more green color. My wide, or even a tiny bit of yellow, if necessary. Does wagon soft gradation in case of leaves are really paths? I also want to show one of them is slightly rounding. So i that you need to use actually two of them. So I definitely need to use slightly different tone than rounding up. In case of my wall term sections, I use two different blues to Persian blue colors. Then I mixed them for some sections to cover. Why painting the lily flower. I decided to add some extra wide in the center of the flower. For a better contrast. Such changes can be always. Today. We are not bound to your original version. In their new ideas will make your painting or your artwork. 6. Faux Stained Glass, P5, Acrylic Gel/Pouring Medium Layer: Now we can move to case two of our painting. I want to introduce you to different ways of applying. The last code on our artwork. The first one, acrylic child makes with some either paint or in my case, tower. There's really no difference between bulk paint, which would be, in our case acrylic paint in very small amount or a couple of drops of ink called India ink. I'm checking what would be the best way to apply the layer of paint mixed with acrylic gel on top of my flower seems to be okay. We can also use a palette knife. Both ways will be fine. And why working on this project, you can decide by yourself what will prefer. Now, it's the second way of applying the second layer of paint. This time, I'm mixing in with pouring medium. I'm applying it with a brush. However, I don't like the effect that I get. First of all, I can already see, but they need to apply a greater amount of the mixture onto their shapes. Created with glow. Brush works, okay? As long as I apply that mixture greater amount. And also considering this is the right color. For my lady, so far, I use to color. And it seems to be okay. In case when I need a little bit more punch, I certainly use different green colors. Even apply some blue and yellow to make the color either more on the cool, more on the warm side. We can add. So use a mixture of medium or acrylic gel with some. And they say Sam, just a little bit of acrylic paint or ink, or even mixture of both. As you notice, I start applying a little bit taller. The smallest sections of the sections representing the turning side of things. This time, I added some of the blue to the mixture. I think that should be okay. I also applied or put more of their needs so that the shape better feel doubt. And I don't really need to have any reasonable marks created by moving the mixture with At brush. This time, I used a different color for the LEA. It is a pure green. Taller, more on the warm side. That means the color has more yellow in it. I also decided that, that this particular color looks better than the previous one that I use. A wireless decided to apply more of the mixture. Shapes. And then not afraid to experiment with a different ratio of porous medium to that. In some places I acquire more of the ink, some less. I also like that. The different colors mix together, giving me new powers directly in their shapes. When I apply the mixture and make sure that there's plenty of it. However, at the same time, I have to watch that the mixture doesn't load offer the blue lines moving into the water. There always has to be a balanced don't rush. Mixture application. Give yourself time. And don't mix huge amount of paint at once. Because what can you do with it? When will be glossed over cleft. So it seems that the colors of the leaves and the stem look gold, just need to darken the stem of the flower. I think this looks quite nice. We really have that glossy effect of the glass reflecting the light. We need to repeat this same effect. Sections representing water to the mixture. Again, using ink and porin means you and I become quite bolt with the paint application on mixture application. The branch only helps me to move the paint without leaving visible mark-making. I mix. That has some of the purple in it. I'll use the blue color. As you can see, slowly but surely all the shapes are filled out with beautiful mixture of orange medium and some of their scale of your artwork. You can use different containers to mix the E or acrylic paint with that pouring medium or acrylic gel. I found that to be a challenge code. To apply some of that blue purplish, bluish mixture onto the leaves are some differences. And then pure orange me doom onto the petals of the flower. You can also mix a little bit of red, but very, very small amount. Onto the orange meet you. Print even more of the colors or color changes on to the petals of the flowers. And so our beautiful painting is done except the last phase that we will continue to work on. 7. Faux Stained Glass, P6, Metal Lines: This is already the last stage of our four on this beautiful stained glass. All what you have to do is to apply some of the iridescent metallic colors of our choice. On top of the lines. I have chosen silver color because I believe that the silver will enhance the composition and the colors of my artwork. The most sophisticated way. You can also choose black column or go. Straight towers seem to suit that false thing. Glass project in the most creative way. For my lines, I can use acrylic paint. In my page. Decided to use what I had available. Or is up pain. As I mentioned previously, tempera paint is not as durable as acrylic paint. Therefore, if you have acrylic paint in silver available, make sure that you use it. Per up paint will be okay too. But like I said, you'll have to cut, first of all, that it will be not as durable. Last thing, as good as occurring, but also that the thickness of the paint is different. Therefore, you have to go with at least two layers on top of the line to get the same effect as should achieve by using silver acrylic paint. I have time. So I'm allowing myself to use pain. And I start from one spout. Let's see, from the top, I move down working on the penthouse and then down to the lily pad. After applying the paint. The first layer, I let it dry and then I will go with a second layer. And if necessary, with the third or even fourth one. On specially observe the application on the spot. When two objects meet together. For example, the overlapping petals sections, then the couple of spots in which the paint has to be extra heavily applied. So in case when the paint will splash or by accident then be applied onto the surface of porin or acrylic medium sections. Make sure that you have another brush in water and right away, clean up this particular football. Otherwise, it will be very hard to get rid of it later on. Now, with the application of paint, you can create heavier lines or can have them read a very delicately applied. You can make the lines a little bit wider. You can keep them that I like to call it skinny. This is up to you. And if you think that this trick will enhance your overall composition and the look of your painting then might as well go for it. The most important is that the painting has the clean law and brings the effect of stained glass. So clearly, the sections of shapes in different colors divided beautifully with lines that show, for example, metal ones. To create. This metal lines, make sure to use a pointed brush. Not too small, not too big. It has to be the perfect one that covers exactly the width of the glue ones that you applied before. So this is our project and I hope that you enjoy working. 8. Faux Stained Glass, Conclusion: Hi again. I hope that you enjoyed the creation process and now are ready to create your own masterpiece. As you noticed, it is not a difficult task. All what you have to do is to follow the tricks of the artist stripe. You can recreate the same image I completed, or you can choose your own image to create the beautiful, unique masterpiece. I also like to encourage you to work with both mediums, acrylic gel and pouring medium to find out which medium is more suitable for your needs. And don't forget, it's all about having fun. That makes this project even better. If you're enjoying my style of teaching, I have more tutorial videos posted on the Skillshare educational platform, including introduction to Van Gogh, painting technique and learning how to paint wonderful and beautiful flowers in impressionistic technique. Thank you and bye-bye. For now.
