1. Welcome to My Garden: Hi, my name is Karina, a butler, and you're welcome to my garden and to my class. I'm an artist and my creative practice is mostly dedicated to flora and fauna. In this class, we will draw birds. We will focus on the parents. Actually, a couple of my artwork printed on the different materials, mostly a specialized in the interior graphics. This class is good for the beginners and those who want to become more confident in digital coloring. We will listen to birds singing and enjoy the drawing process. In this class, we will also make photoshop plus productions. So I hope the process will go small. I will walk us through the shortcuts on the keyboard and you will see how the color, the image, the final file, can be applied on different surfaces and bring new dimensions to the drawing. I love making files for the big walls, and I hope my class will inspire you to create your own wallpaper or other printed item. Thank you for enrolling in my class, and I hope you will enjoy the process with me. 2. Drawing Love Birds: I would like to start with something that can inspire you. Here's one of my recent drawings. As you can see, my graphics are almost always dedicated to nature and its creatures. I love drawing animals and plants. And surely I love drawing birds. Here. Our love birds. Cute couple of parrots. Sorry for skipping the material part. But in short, I'm using a Faber Castile pencil. It is type B, which is a medium. As you can see. I have sharpened it with a knife for the extra sharpness. It is important for the detailed drawings. Try to master this skill. Practice sharpening the pencil with a knife. With it be H or HB type. Because the soft pencils require experience since they break easily. There is a difference softness from ten h to be. The spectrum allows you to choose whatever you need. H is heart beat is so I would recommend to just the paper on the vertical surface is better for your neck and the spine. It is really important to have breaks when you draw because your body was not designed for this kind of work. And I would not call it healthy either or even safe to work a lot on fine drawings. But what can I say? Art costs. So please be patient. You would not believe. But love. Bird has a name coming from the way parents behave with each other. They're quite social and affectionate. The name comes from the parents strong, monogamous pair bonding, which nowadays deserve admiration. Love birds like sitting together in pairs for very long periods. These birds live in a small blocks and the like, fruits, vegetables, grass, and of course, seeds. Some of them are kept as pets. As you have seen them around. Probably. Surprisingly, they lived quite a long life, 20 to 30 years. So I assume most of them outperformed most of the humans partner relationship. The most important part of the detailed drawing is to be patient and prepare for the repetitive, long work. Maybe it's boring, but treated as a meditation. When drawing, try to study the object or a bird and see which direction each line goes in different parts of the body. Imagine you're a small, tiny person walking cross the object. Seeing all the curves, all the shapes. When people ask me how much time this all that work takes. I never have an idea. I never comes with time. I think it is best when you start doing something and you forget about the time entirely. Forget yourself in the process. Although the brakes, please. It doesn't matter how much time does it take as long as you enjoyed, be patient and prepare that 70% of the process won't feel satisfying. It's good. It's okay when you're not happy with the result, just keep on erasing, shaping, creating shadows, and making it smooth and sharp until you really like it. That is the secret to not give up until you're really happy with the result. I often feel miserable up to the 70% of the process. And only after 70% of the drawing is done, I started liking it. So imagine how much time I spend disliking what I do, which leads to good results. In the end. In the end, I have added the surroundings, but it is not really necessary in my case because I will use larger leaves for the background. 3. Scanning the Drawing: Scanning. I'm using a regular scanner. Can LTE, which is flat, it isn't a key quality and very small and flat. It is important for me because I travel a lot. Here. I'm choosing the high resolution, very high 1200 DPI, but it is not necessary. You can use it less resolution. And the larger the number is, the bigger the file will be. Then you can choose either tiff or JPEG file format. Jpeg takes less space, but the quantity is not the best. I'm using such a high resolution because I need this drawing to be printed on the big surface. And so I need to scale it up. 4. Essential Shortcuts in Photoshop: Now it is time to learn the keyboard for using Photoshop more efficiently. The Tab key is for showing the tools, turning them on and off. The first tool is a move to letter V. When you select a layer with the move tool, you press Command plus t. And now you can make bilayer bigger or smaller. If you hold Shift while scaling it, it will scale proportionally. And if you don't hold Shift, then the image will be scaled freely. And m is the rectangular marquee tool. And key. It is for selecting the area in rectangular shape. After you can press Command T and change the size of the image in different ways, distorted, rapid, or make other transformations. This is useful when copying the object and making it look different from the original. Distort the lever bit, and it is not the same live anymore. Copy pasting can be not as boring as it sounds like with this tool. Now, let's take less than two. L stands for it. If it is selected with the Option key, you can extract the areas from the selection. Lessor, makes it easy to control the selected area. Then you can cut the image out for further manipulations with the layer w. Now, it's time for a magic wand. W is, I want. This selects in a magical way. There are different types of the wand. Somehow it recognizes the shape and select it. Claret tool. The normal magic wand, select the same color area like this. And the Quick Selection Tool is smarter. It selects the whole object by recognizing the shape and its color. I guess. It works pretty well as you can see. Then you can choose L and make some adjustments with the Lasso tool. And the one also has an extract mode. Hold the option key for that. I clear the selected area, holding the Option key with wand tool. Here is the result that we're going to use for cutting, which makes the shape sharper. Want to match. It is not 100% accurate for me. Next tool is crop. See. Well, this is easy. It just crops the image. If you want to scale the crop area proportionally, then you have to press Save button. If the file has a selected area, then it will crop accordingly to this area. Then we have a very useful tool, try to remember it. The letter for this tool is an eye dropper. With an eye dropper tool, you can choose the right color. For instance, I wanted to have this colorful gradient. I create a layer, choose the color from the Amish together with them, let's say yellow and blue light, changing the layer style. And he raised the result. I really like using the eyedropper tool and I wish it existed in real life. Now, it is time for a brush. Be stands for the brush. Let's choose the size by pressing in the area and holding the Control key. So first beat, then press control. The interesting things in the digital coloring is choosing the style of the layer. I recommend to create a new layer always, you can have more control over the lines printed above the other layers. Then they can easily be erased or changed in the style of layer. So it's good to keep everything on separate layers. S. S stands for the stamp tool. And I will promise you, you will need it. Click and then Control key for choosing the size of the tool. Sorry, the example isn't the bird, but I just wanted you to show how did I fix this stains on the petals. You press S and then choose the area you want to replicate. Then press the Option key to memorize these chosen area. Then you can paint with a fragment you have chosen. In other places. Look how well they still does its job. It works like a miracle. A very useful tool and I wish it exists in real life too. E stands for an eraser. It's easy, simple. Erase things from a separate layer. This is why it is good to have everything on the different layers. So you don't erase everything. You just need to correct some parts and you use the eraser. The other layers are not damaged. G. Now let's press G key for a gradient. Here you can choose different types of the gradient, linear and circle. This, I've been working with gradients, they changing backgrounds. So I have chosen the colors from the drawing and then press Comment, I change to the opposite colors. Experiment here as long as you need. You can also take the simple paint bucket and color it in one plane color. Oh, now it is time for adults to two, which is o. With this tool, you can either make it lighter or darker depends on the chosen type. Let me show you. So I'm making this lecture. And you can change what exactly you want to make. Lighter. Which parts? The shadows or light bars. Now, I'm making it darker. Work on the different layers for the flexibility. Also, there is a sponge tool which makes the drawing less saturated. Something like this. The pen tool is the most essential. This is my favorite tool. Please do not be lazy and learn how to work with the pen tool properly and make curves and shapes with it. So you draw a figure with the pen tool by making dots. Then you close it. When you see this circle, press with a right-click and then choose Make selection. If you need the sharp edges, leave the feather area is 0 at 0. Now you press L or M case for the selection tool, and then right-click the mouse choose Layer via cut. Now, the object is on a different layer. This is the way I separate all of my objects and create layers. T. The texts though, is T of this leaf. Here is my love to you. You can also choose different styles of the layer and of course, work with the fonts and styles of the letters. That is, that is for the Zoom tool, very useful to try to learn these keyboards to make the process faster and more efficient. It also looks cooler when you can fully use the keyboard, I could get this. Is it. The most essential tools for creating high-quality images in Photoshop? 5. Colouring the Drawing in Photoshop: Coloring. After scanning the drawing with the regular canon, in 1200 DPI, I got a high resolution file. Here is my reference picture. You can edit in the file directly, so you can see the color. And it will be a good reference. Now I'm taking the pen tool, shortcut be the most essential tool in Photoshop. And I'm going around the parents. Every object has to be done separated on a new layer for the future color manipulations. After closing the shape created with a pen. When you see the circle, I click on the right button of the mouse and choose, Make Selection. Then when it is selected and press layer via cut. And whenever we have a layer with a separated couple of pellets. Now, I will separate inseparable parents doing the same thing with the pen. This way, we will be able to color them individually. Now, we select one of the parents by clicking with the Comment button. And we have to choose the Lasso tool. And I press the Option key for the last suit with a minus, extracting from the selected areas. So I'm cutting out the head of the parents to make them red, orange gradient on top of it. It is very convenient to have your reference file open in Photoshop so you can choose the colors directly from the photo. You can make the gradient in the linear gradient type. And then try applying the gradient as many times as you like until the result will be satisfied. Then in choosing the style of the layer, which is mostly linear burn. And after I adjust the opacity to make it softer, then I'm selecting the layer with Option button to color the body parts in the green gradient. After coloring it, I select the head layer and choose the body layer and delete the part where the head is to leave green colors only where it is needed. Now I'm taking the brush and after choosing the right brush and color, I'm applying a yellow necklace and adjust the layer style. This time it is overlay. And now it is time for the peak, which is red. I decided to color it on the separate layer for flexibility. Okay, The first part is done, and now I'm repeating the same process with another parrot. It is quite impressive how fast we can color things in Photoshop. Actually. Usually, I don't use such a saturated color, but I know that I can adjust this situation later according to the final file. So I want the birds to be very vibrant. They are so cute together. I'm so grateful for the world we live in. The colors we see in the designs are the plants and animals always fascinate me a lot. So we are almost finished. Touches here and there. And here they are. Lovely laugh couple. 6. Result & Wallpaper Inspiration: In the final section of the class, I would like to show you some of my wallpapers. For the wall is the service where you can upload and print an image for yourself, for your loved ones. Tried to think bake. Making small graphics doesn't mean it cannot be used on the big surfaces. So here are some of my examples. People like jungles, most of all. I wish you good luck in your creative process and I hope you can expand your creative practice outside of the paper size. Yes. Please share your results in the project section. And I will really appreciate if you leave the review, that will help. Thank you. Create something new, enlarge. Be brave, and see you in the next class.
