1. Hello!: Hi, my name is Christine
and welcome to a new Procreate
illustration course. In just a couple of steps
you will get to create a gorgeous zebra in a
very peaceful ambiance, you will have a very relaxing
and fun time playing with some simple Procreate tools and the result will be
very satisfying. You don't need any prior
experience in Procreate. You'll receive
step-by-step guidance and encouragement all the way. All you need for this
course is the iPad, the Apple pencil, and
the procreate app. You will learn how to
use lines to create volume space and
beautiful contrasts. After taking this course, you will find how
easy it is to create gorgeous compositions in no
time and with minimum effort, if you are ready to explore the wonderful world of
digital illustration, welcome to this course.
2. Background: For this very beautiful and
decorative illustration, you will firstly need
to create a canvas that has 4 thousand
by 4 thousand pixels. This will give you 12
layers to work with, which is really very sufficient. Very beautiful square format. For this course, you will use the coffee time color
palette that can be found in the resource
page of the course. The brushes you will need to
complete this course is the textured keep your brush
and the inking brush, that's a brushes can be found in the resource page of
the course as well. One of the beginning you will set the color of the background, a very contrasting sky color. So let's go to the layers and selecting the
background color layer, you will pick this
beautiful dark blue from the bottom
middle of the palate. If you want, you can choose another saturated color
for your background, but make sure it is a strong color so the
zebra can be visible. After the background
color is set, you will want to
create the sense of air in your environment. So you will go to brushes
and using the kiwi brush, you will create on the first
layer of the illustration some big textures using this light middle gray from
the middle right side. For these textures, you
will want to set the flow to about 30% and the
size of the maximum. Now going from top to bottom, you will lightly press
on the surface of the canvas to create a
very delicate gradient. Make sure you apply
more of this light gray on the top
side of the canvas. Move from right to left. So these textures can
build in a uniform manner. Let's lower the flow a
little bit more and now let's make sure the
textures are uniform. After the textures of the background are
beautiful, newly placed, you are now ready to create some delicate branches on
the top side of the canvas. For that, you will want
to create a new layer. Then you will want to
pick from the brushes, the elegant our mom brush. Before starting to draw, Let's set the size to about thirty-five percent
and the flow to maximum. After this is done, let's go to the color
palette and grab the dark green from
the top left side. The places where you will create the branches are in
the top right corner, and then you will create a beautiful tree trunk
on the left side of the canvas and some
other branches in the top-left corner. Now go back to the top-right corner and leaving from the top
side of the canvas, you will create a
branch that gets outside the right
edge of the canvas. This will be the main branch. Now living from this branch, you will make one more inside
a first going to the top. Let's make one more
similar on the lower side. And now you can make one
more on the top left side of the branch going outside
the canvas to the top. As you can see, all the branches are following the
same direction, being slightly more thicker
on the bottom side. This will make the
illustration seem a little bit more
lung vertically. Now you can move to
the left side of the canvas to create
the tree trunk. For that, you will firstly
trace a vertical line. So let's move to the bottom of the canvas and create this line. It doesn't need to be
perfectly straight. Just hold the pencil down
until it becomes straight. After this, you can press the edit pattern and
then you can drag the two ends of the line outside the canvas so it can nicely
close the shape of the trunk. Now, after the line is done, you can drag the dark color from the corner to the left
side over the trunk. As you can see now the
composition seems even taller. Now, as for the top right side, you will make some new branches. You will first make the
brush slightly bigger. And now leaving from
the top of the canvas, you will draw a curved line closing on the top
middle of the branch. You can make these
branches thicker by pressing harder on the pen. Let's add one more
delicate branch on the right side
of this branch. And now getting a bit closer, you will create one more branch on the left side of
the main branch. And now let's add one more on the right side of
the small branch. So the branch is can
seem a bit richer. With this, you have finished
grading the first step. Let's move to the
next one and create some more details for this
beautiful background.
3. Foliage and Background: In this step, you
will move further in creating the background
of this illustration. The first thing you will
want to do is to create some wood textures
on the tree trunk. For that you will
go to the layer of the tree and then you
will grab the eraser. Let's decrease the
size of the eraser. And now let's get
closer to the tree. And then starting from
below the branch, you will create some curved
lines across the tree trunk, making the oval shapes a little bit more
elongated vertically. You will continue making
these curved lines, trying to keep them concentric, just like some ripples in water. Let's move to the top. And as for the branches, Let's cut some beautiful lines into the surface
of the tree trunk. Let's add one more line on
the left side of the curves. And after this you
can move lower end. You will add on the
top of the curves one line and on the lower
side another shorter one. And with this, you
have successfully created some beautiful
tree textures that gives just a little accent
of contrasts to your illustration with the beautiful color
of the background. Now moving further,
you will create the beautiful foliage
of the trees. For the foliage, you will
want to add a new layer, and then you will want
to place it below the layer of the tree
trunk and the branches. After this, having the
new layer selected, you'll want to go to the
color palette and grab the beautiful middle green
from the top left side. Now using the beautiful
Armand brush, you will go to the top-left
side of the canvas and create a curvy line that climbs to
the top middle of the canvas. As you can see, this
curved line will have on his right side some
beautiful waves. Let's try making these
waves a bit wider. This will be the counter of the foliage of the
tree from the left. Now let's move to the right
and create another line describing some beautiful
waves on the left side of it. As you can see, the two
shapes of the foliage create a very nice streamlined
path between them. Let's now fill the shapes
with the same green. Look at the dimension
created by those shapes. So easy and suggestive. Now you will play with the
shape of the two trees. So let's select the Move tool and then using the warp tool, you will start
playing with shapes, bringing the sides and the
top and the middle lower. This will create a very delicate
sense of perspective to your illustration by getting
rid of those straight lines. Now that the shape of
the leaves is done, you will want to integrate a bit their shape into
the environment. For that, you will grab
from the color palette, the green from the
top left side. And then you will increase a little bit more of the
brightness of the color. After that, you will use
the selection tool to make a selection of the two
beautiful patches of green. Once they are selected, you will go to the brushes
and pick the Kivy brush. Now, increasing the
flow of the brush, you will start to apply this beautiful blue
textures on the lower side, leaving the top half of
the vegetation clear. By doing this, you have the two shape integrate
into the atmosphere. You don't need to create contrasts between
all the shapes. Some of them have to be
a bit more tempered. Now let's under the selection
and the trees are done. After this, the background is almost ready for the
next little upgrade. As you can see, the blue
from the bottom has a pretty strong intensity and it feels like it
goes down forever. So let's close the atmosphere of the background
by playing with It's darker nuance of color on the lower side
of the background. The green use previously
for the foliage. After the color is selected, you will decrease the flow of the brush, increase the size. And then you can select the
layer of the white textures. And now let's create
a little bit of a shadow on the bottom
side of the canvas. Just to give a little
bit of nuance to the lower side to make the
background look complete. It is so easy to create an atmosphere for
your illustration. Now it will be much
more easy to place your character into
this beautiful frame. Let's get into the next step and start creating the zebra.
4. Head Shape: In this step, you will
start creating the zebras, starting with the main
shape of the head. For that, you will
want to firstly go to the Layers and create a new
one on top of the others. Now going to the brushes
less grabbed the mom brush. And after this decreasing
the size of the brush, you are ready to create
the zebra's head. The head of the zebra will be placed almost in the middle, a little bit to the right
side of the canvas. After this from
the color palette, you can pick the
beautiful clean white. This will be great for
some fine contours. Let us now trace a beautiful circle almost in
the middle of the canvas. Hold the pencil down until
the circle becomes smooth. And now let's
release it and press the edit button and create
a beautiful circle. And now let's make it a little
bit more to the center, but not right in the middle. And after the place of
the head is established, you can grab the white from the corner and fill the shape. After the shape of
the circle is filled. Let's get closer and create
the rest of the head. For that you will want to
create a curved line that smoothly clients from
below the bottom left side of the circle
to the top of it. Now you will create the
jawline like a type curve that lives from the same distance and meets the
bottom, the circle. After the two sides of
the face are placed, you will create the
counter of the nose. For that you will firstly
place on each ends of the two lines are short
curve that goes outside. And now for the end of
the nose and the mouth, you will link the two ends of
the curves with a V-shaped directed a little bit to the bottom left
side of the canvas. And after these lines
are done em close, you can fill the
shape with color. Now that the shape of the head
and the nose are finished, you will want to
create the shape of the two ears and
the top of the main four that you will firstly go to the color palette and grab the light gray from
below the white. Then going to the
top of the head, you will place a short
lining client at 45 degrees that stand
for the top of the ear. Now let's continue the
line with a curved directed upwards that stands
for the top of the ear. And now you will
double the lines on the right side and
link them on the top. Now let's create the
inside of the ear like a white curve directed downside. After this, let's move to
the left side of the head. And as before, you will create the base of
the ear and then climb bet 45 degrees with a long line and then
double it going down. And now as before, you will create the
inside part of the ear linking the line from the top with the
bottom of the year. And with this, the contours
of the ears are done. Let's now make the ears
of the same height by making the ear from the
right a bit point here. Just a bit will
be enough to make them look much more similar. Now let's go to
the color palette and grab the white from the top. After this, you can
fill the shape of the two ears with this
beautiful clean white. And with that, the main
shape of the head is done. You will now create the top
of the main between the ears. For that you will go back to the palette and grab the
light gray from before. Now moving closer,
you will place the vertical and of the main that will leave from
between the ears at a 45 degree angle
to the left side. And now let's create
the top of the main by making a deep V-shape, leaving from the
top of the line. And then you will close the shape on the
contour of the ear. The outside edge of the main
will later continue down. Now let's move back to
the bottom of the main and create a line that
goes behind the head. This will be the
roots of the main. And now let's close the
shape of the main width, the beautiful
contour of the head. And now you can go and grab from the color
palette that clean white and after that fill the shape of the main
width, this color. With this, you have finished creating the main
shape of the head. Let's move into the next step and create the
body of the zebra.
5. Body Shape: This step you will create the neck and the
body of the zebra. For that, you will firstly
want to go to the layers and add one more layer
on top of the others. Then going to the color palette, you will want to
pick the light gray from below the white. Now you are ready to draw. You will start to draw the next, starting with the
outside part of it, living from below the
ear, from the right. And then go into the bottom of the canvas with a very
delicately band line, curved just a
little bit outside. Now you will go
below the chin and create a C-shape
flipped vertically. Let's create the line. Hold the pencil down until
it becomes straight. And now you can adjust
the thickness of the neck by playing with
the position of the line. And now the two lines
of the neck are done. Now you will add one more curved line that will close the whole
shape of the body. For that you will live from the bottom left
side of the canvas with a line that curves up and
miss the line of the neck. Let's hold the pencil down until the line becomes smoother. And with that, the
contract is done. Let's get a bit
closer and adjust the line, grabbing the eraser, just making the contrast a
bit more clean and smooth, very easy to do. And now you will have to
go to the top of the neck. Now, very important because you are on a different
layer from the head. You will want to close the
shape of the neck on top. So let's go to the top of
the neck and draw a line to link the two sides of the
neck and close the shape. With that, you can go
to the color palette, grab the beautiful white, and fill the shape of the body. And with that, the base color
of the body is created. Let's now go to the layers and
drag the layer of the body underneath the one of the head too high
that end of the neck. Now let's suggest a little bit
the jaw line of the zebra. So let's move to the
layer of the head. Then you will use the
selection tool to isolate the head from the rest and now grabbing the gray
from the color palette, Let's trace a beautiful
line on the edge of the jaw to suggest the
beautiful shape of the head. Let's add a little bit of a shadow in the back
of the head and maybe add one more
smaller contour on the left side of the face. Just a little bit
of gray to make the white edge a
bit more delicate. Now you will go to the layers and move to the
layer of the body. For the end of this step, you will want to
go to the back of this beautiful zebra and
create a very elegant tail. So let's go to the
color palette and grab the beautiful
and delicate gray. And now living from the
bottom of the zebra, you will create a line
that firstly goes a bit down and then climbs back up
above the back of the zebra. Now, at the end of the tail, you will create two curves
that meet in 1 the tip, just like an elegant
point, the brush. And now let's grab the wide from the color palette
and fill the shape. With that, you have successfully finished creating the
shape of the body. It is so easy to use some very simple lines to
describe forms and shapes. Nothing too complicated. Now let's move to the next step and create the
main of the zebra.
6. Mane Shape and Shadow: In this step, you
will create the main of the zebra
and you will add some beautiful and
delicate contours around the zebra to better
describe its shapes. Let's start with
the beautiful main, adding another layer and dragging it underneath
the other ones. Now you will want to
use the light gray once more to create the contour
of the main as well. Let's make sure that our
mom brushes ready and now you are ready to trace
the outside edge of the main, living with the white
curve from below the neck and then closing the shape
in the back of the year. Now let's hold the
pen so the shape can become nice and uniform. As you can see,
the line continues with a top of the main
from the other layer. And now you will want
to close the shape of the main in the
back of the others. For that, you will drag the
layer of the main ontop. The drawing can be visible. Now let's make the line from the top of the main
a bit more long. And then leaving from
the bottom of the main, you can close its shape
with another curved line. Now that the shape is closed, you can drag the color from the corner and fill the shape. With this, the main
is colored as well. Now you can go to
the layers and drag the layer of the main
underneath the other two. And with that, the whole shape
of the zebra is complete. You will now want to
add some contours over the zebras body to better
describe these shapes. For that, let's go to the palette and grab
the light gray. Now going on the layer of
the neck and the body, Let's get a little closer
to the top of the neck. And now let's make a
selection of the neck. After the selection is done, Let's grab the brush and place a little bit of this
country on the back of the head just to accentuate a little bit that beautiful
shape of the neck. Now let's go to the bottom
of the neck and add the white beautiful line to accentuate the gracious
shape of the body. Make sure the line is
y there at the bottom. And now let's move in the
middle of the body and place a beautiful why the stripe to suggest the top
of the front leg. This will be very important when creating the
zebra's stripes. Now, moving to the left
side of the zebra, you will add one more beautiful, the curved line to suggest
the round shape of the body. Let's make the bottom of
the line even more wide. With that, this step
is finished as well. Look at how beautiful and elegant your ZBrush
shaped Luke's. Let's move to the
next step and start creating the features
of the zebra.
7. Face Stripes: In this beautiful step, you will create the elegant
features of the zebra. Let's start by going on
the layer of the head. And now let's alpha lock
the layer of the zebra. And let's start creating
some beautiful patterns. On his face is big ears and
on the top of his main, getting a bit closer, you will pick the
dark green from the top-left side and then decreasing the
size of the brush, you will create a big patch of color on the nose of the zebra. For that, you will
firstly wanted to identify the middle of the face, which will help everything
finds its place. Now let's get a
little bit closer to the nose and on the
left side of it, where the nose begins, you will re-create that
beautiful short curve, a little bit inclined upwards. And now you will move to the right side and we
create the second one a bit more inclined than the
first at about 45 degrees. And now you will
go to the top of the nodes and links
the two sides through a beautifully curved
line that has the top of the curve a
little bit on the left side. Now let's create this
beautiful and delicate curve. Hold the pencil down and
adjust its position. Now that the two sides
of the nose are linked, you can drag the color from the corner and fill the shape. Now you will move on the top of the middle line and add on
the each side of the line a delicate white curve
that will create something like a
delicate leaf shape. Now let's drag the
color from the corner and fill the two
sides of the shape. Getting a bit closer and making sure the
shape is complete. There are no missed spots. And now you are
ready to place on each side of the middle
line to beautiful eyes. Take your time to make the
two eyes super elegant. The two eyes will live from the same distance from the middle line
going to the sides. To create some
beautiful eyelashes. You will want to
go to the layers and undo the alpha lock. Now you will get closer to the left side of
the head and place a delicate tight curve with a little line on his right side. Let's make the line
a bit shorter. And now going outside the shape, you will place too thick
and beautiful eyelashes. Now let's move to the eye
from the right and start with a beautiful thin line
in the corner of the eye. Then you will place an
elegant curve that goes a bit upward and ends with
three delicate eyelashes. Let's get closer and try to make these features of the
zebra very elegant. Now let's move to the
eye from the left side and add two more
beautiful eyelashes, maybe making them a bit thinner. It looks like the eyelashes from the right side are a bit though, and comparison with
the other ones. Let's try to make them have a bit more personality
and structure. So let's erase these ones
and try to make them better. Maybe making eyelashes thinner at the bottom and
thicker in the middle, just like some bird wings. Let's get a bit
closer and adjust the thickness of
the top eyelash. Now it looks so elegant with those long and
extravagant eyelashes. Now let's continue with the beautiful stripes
from the face. These stripes will leave from the top of the nose and will be directed to the sides of the
cheeks before making them. Let's set the alpha lock so it can be easier to create them. Now getting closer to the
right side of the face, you will place the first
stripe that leaves from the top-right corner
of the nose and goes to the right with a
beautiful curved line. Now the second one
will be a bit wider, so you will have to press
a bit harder on the pen. Now the next one will
be a bit more complex. It will be thinner until it
meets the bottom of the eye. And then it will become thicker and will
change his direction. Let's do it once more. Thinner as it leaves the nose till it meets
the bottom of the eye, and then it becomes thicker. If you have surely made a wonderful pattern
for your zebra. Now you will create one more line that
goes above the eye, very wide and thin this line, just like an eyebrow. And now you will link the end of this line with the
back of the head, making it a bit
thicker at the end. So expressive this lines. And now you will move
to the left side of the head and re-create
the lines from the right. So let's begin with
the last one creating a white and thin line that goes above the
eye from the left. And now you will go to
the bottom of the eye. And as before, you will
live from the corner of the nose to the left
and with a tight curve. And now let's add one
more on top of this one, making it thicker on its end, and one more just below the eye. Look at how beautiful
these lines describe the beautiful
shape of the face. It is so easy to play
with a couple of lines to give so much personality
to your character. Now let's move to the
next step and create some beautiful stripes
over the elegant phase.
8. Face Details: In this step you will add some beautiful details over
the head of the zebra. You will see how easy
it is to bring shapes to life by creating
beautiful contrast. Now you will get a bit
closer to the forehead. And now let's make that middle
line a bit more along the, upward until it almost made
the bottom of the main. Now the forehead seem
a bit more tall. After this, let's add a bit of heaviness to the right
side of the head. For that, you will increase
the size of the brush. And now starting
from below the ear, you will add some
short and thick lines parallel with the
ones from before. Now, before adding
too many details over the bottom of the face, Let's make sure all
the other elements come a bit closer
to a final look. So let us get closer to
the ear from the right. And living from the
bottom of the ear, you will place a long line on the inside part of its edge. This will help a lot to make
the ears much more visible. Now you will move to the
left ear and do the same, living from the top of the ear, follow the inside edge of the ear until you
meet its bottom. Before moving on, let's pay some extra attention and make these two lines very
beautiful and smooth. Now let's make sure
that dark line from the left ear has a little bit
of thickness in the middle. Looking at how nice those two lines suggest
the direction of the ears. Now let's pay some
attention to the main and create some very
suggestive lines. Let's start with one
on the left side, just on the edge, moving to the right and adding one more a bit over the V-shape. And now let's add some
shorter lines on the top. Try to make these lines
thinner on the bottom. And use the plasticity
of the brush to find unique ways of grating
With the help of it. And now the top of the main has some beautiful stripes as well. Now you will continue to add some very delicate
features to the zebra. Let's start by adding
some nostrils. For that, you'll want to go to the color palette and
using the value page, you will want to
create a clean black by decreasing the brightness
of any color to 0. Then let's decrease a bit of the size and get
closer to the nose. Now you will create a C-shape
for the right nostril, making the line thicker on top. And now let's create one more
nostril on the left side. This time the other way around, as you can see, just suggesting the
shape of the nostrils is enough to complete another
very important feature. Let's now move to
the right side of the head and make the edge of the head more visible by
adding a couple more lines, making them a bit curved to suggest the round
shape of the head. As you can notice, this zebra is very
graphic and striking, but it lacks color. This will be solved in no time with just a hint
of color for that, Let's make a selection of
the two folds of the ears. Then going to the brushes, you will select the
wonderfully textured brush. Let's now go to the
color palette and pick the beautiful pink from
the bottom right side. Now decreasing the flow of the brush and the size as well, you will start to add
progressively this pink, starting from the inside part of the ear and going outside. Let's decrease the size
and increase the flow. And now let's focus on the
inside part a bit more, making the contrast of the
pink and black stronger. Now let's move to the
right ear and the same, accentuating the color
of the left side where it is closer to the
black edge of the ear. Look at how beautiful these
little accents of color loop. Let's move to the
left ear and make the color even more saturated. After the two ears
are nice and pink, you'll want to go to the color palette and
once more grabbed the clean white and from the
brushes, the inking brush. Now getting closer to
the ear from the right, you will start to create some delicate little
hairs over the pink. This little hairs will be displaced perpendicular
to the dark edge. Just so they seem like they're coming from inside the ear. A very delicate these detail. Let's move to the left
ear and do the same. Make sure you live with
your brushstrokes from inside the ear so the little hairs can seem
thicker on the base. You can make them
thinner or thicker. It doesn't matter as long as they are beautifully aligned. And now you will want to add a little bit of
blush to your zebra. For that, Let's unmake the
selection of the ears and make a new selection of the
white parts of the cheeks. Make sure you don't
include the dark ones. And now that both of the
cheeks are selected, you can grab the
beautiful pink from before and from the brushes, the beautiful kiwi brush. Let's get a bit
closer to the face. And now let's create two beautiful oval spots of
blush underneath the eyes. This will make the zebra look so much more alive and pretty. Just a little bit of
this pink will be enough to totally change
the look of the zebra. And with this, you have finished one more step of
your illustration. Let's move to the next
one and play with some very creative stripes across the neck and
the body of the zebra.
9. Body Stripes: Now that the head of the zebra
is finished in this step, you will create some
very descriptive stripes across the zebras body. Let's get ready, grabbing the
beautiful dark green from the top-left side and then going on the layer of the body. Now, let's get that
beautiful and elegant. Our mom brush. Make sure the flow, it's at 100% and the size
below half to about 20%. Now let's get
closer to the neck. For the neck, you
will have to create the lines following
one single direction. The ones from the
left being short, and the broth and the ones from the right pane longer
and a bit less inclined. These lines are very useful to indicate the
volume of the neck, both of directions of the lines indicating to
the middle of the neck. Now let's start and create
these beautiful stripes by going to the layers and alpha locking the
layer of the body. Now let's increase the size of the brush so you can be able to make the lines much thicker
than the ones from the face. Let's start and
create these lines, making them of different
sizes and lengths. Let's start with
a shorter one and now place a wide one
across the neck. Try to play with the
thickness of the line by pressing harder or
lighter on the pen. Let us now add two more lines
on the bottom of the neck. And now you will add
on the right side of the next some shorter lines making them thicker on the edge. This will also help to make the edge of the neck
much more obvious. Let's add one more line
linked with the bottom one. And now you can move lower and continue with one more
stripe across the neck. Now, as you reach the
bottom of the neck, you can exaggerate the
angle of the lines, making them much more abrupt. You can add more sharp lines
on the side of the neck. This suggests the
beautiful shape. Now for the body of the zebra, you will want to play
with the plasticity of the brush to create
interesting stripes. So let's begin with a stripe across the
back of the zebra. This is a very important
feature of a zebras pattern. After this line is finished, you will want to create on
the right half of the back some stripes curved outside to suggest the round
shape of the body, just like for the neck, but a bit wider and one more smaller stripe
to create some diversity. And now you will change
the direction to suggest the round shape
of the zebras back. So let us live from one of the lines from before and great, a white line that
goes behind the back. This will create a
beautiful triangle between the two curved stripes. After this, you can move
below the line from the back and create two
more curved stripes. Moving your pen to the
size to create some very beautiful waved
pattern of stripes. And with that, you have finished creating the stripes
from the back. Now you can take your time to add more details to your zebra. May be placing some thinner
lines across the neck. Once that is done, you can move to the
beautiful tail that is also selected and create
across the delicate tail some little stripes of
this darker color living from the bottom of the tail and spreading them towards
the end of the tail. Let's make this right from the bottom a little
bit more wide and play with the
shape of it until you are satisfied
with how it looks. Now you are ready to create some delicate shadows on the beautiful shapes
of the zebra. For that, you will want to
pick the selection tool and make a selection of The
White Stripes of the zebra, making sure all of the neck and the bottom of the
zebra are selected. Then you will go to
the color palette and grab the light gray
from below the white. Now picking up the
brush and lowering its flow to about
thirty-five percent, you will add a long and della kids shadow on the
right side of the neck, making it a tiny bit wider as it reaches the
bottom of the canvas. You can accentuate a bit the
shadow on the right side. Now let's move to the back of the zebra and add
one wide shadow, not lifting the
pen and following the beautiful and round
shape of the back. Now you will go
underneath the head. Still having the selection made. You will play some of
this shadow on the neck, making a vertical and
beautiful shadow that you can also accentuate on
the left side a bit more. And with that, you
have finished creating the shadows and the
stripes of the body. Look at the wonderful pattern you've created for your zebra. Let's move to the
next step and create the pattern for the
beautiful mane as well.
10. Mane Stripes: In this step you will create
a beautiful pattern for the main as some very
delicate shadows over the face of the zebra. So let us get closer to the subject and
going to the layer, select the layer of the main. First, you will create some shadows on the
bottom side of the main. Four that you will have to use the selection tool to make
a selection of the main. After the selection is made, Let's grab the brush and
with a low brush flow, you will create a
long shadow on the main following the
bottom right edge of it, not lifting the pen. Now let's create
one more shadow, a bit smaller and
closer to the edge. Now is delegate
shadow is placed, you can start
creating the stripes. So let's go to the
color palette and grab the dark green
from the top-left side, then you can increase
the flow of the brush to maximum and get closer
to the top of the main. Now living from the stripes found on the edge of the neck, you will start to
place some new stripes directed a bit more upwards then the stripes from the neck. Let's leave from each of the stripes from the
top of the neck and create some delicate
lines in the back of the ear pointing upwards. Try to make the
stripes a bit thinner on the lower side and
why they're on the top. Even though your lines will be of different sizes and lengths, try to keep them
beautifully aligned. Use the plasticity
of the brush to discover new ways
of creating lines. Now let's get lower on the main and place
some wider stripes living from the marks
from the edge of the neck and going to the sides. Keep the look of your main fresh and groomed by making the lines aligned and directed a bit more upward then the
ones from the neck. Now let's zoom out and see where there is space for
some thinner stripes. Let's place two more right here, making them a bit shorter. And with that, the main of
the zebra is done as well. Now you will create some delicate shadows on the
white parts of the face. For that, you will go to the layers and select
the layer of the face. After this, let's make
the selection of the main and make a selection of
the white parts of the face. Take your time to grab all
those beautiful white stripes. And of course, after all the stripes from
the face are selected, you will want to select the white parts of
the mane as well. After you are done
making the selection, you will grab the brush, pick from the color palette, the beautiful light gray
from below the white. And then you can lower the
flow through about 40%. Now, not lifting
the pen as before, you will create a
delicate shadow on the right side of the head. A little bit of this shadow on the left side of the head
as well below the cheek. And now let's move to the
top-left side of the head and place one more delicate
shadow on the edge. Now let's move to the
top of the ear and made the white part
of it a bit darker. Just a little hint of
this gray will be enough. Now moving to the
ear from the right, you will place one
more little shadow just right next to
the black stripe. And now you will move
the domain and place in the back of it some of these
very transparent gray color, a stripe of this
gray on top of the main and the zebra is done. Look at those beautiful
stripes and the way they are describing the
shapes you've created. Let's move to the
last step and play some very bright and
colorful vegetation in front of the zebra.
11. Grass Blades: In this last step, you will focus on creating some beautiful vegetation
in front of the zebra. Don't worry, this
vegetation will cover just enough of the beautiful
stripes of the zebra. At first, let's make sure that
our mom brush is selected. After this, let's go
to the Layers and create a new layer on
top of the other ones. Now from the color palette, you will want to pick the beautiful orange color
from the middle left side. Let's maybe use the brighter
pink color just so it matches a little bit of the
color from the zebras face. Now let's increase the
flow to maximum and get closer to the bottom right
side of the canvas where you will start to create
some longer thin blades of grass that go to the
bottom corner of the canvas. You will start with a short
one on the left side, and then progressively,
you will make them longer as you reach the
right edge of the canvas. As for the stripes, Let's keep them
nice and aligned. After you have placed
the fourth grasp light, you can move to the bottom
left side of the canvas. Now, as before, let's place
for beautiful grass plays. This time, let's play a
bit with their direction. Let's get closer and place one more on the
left side and one more underneath it just to
cut a bit of the dark corner. Now that all the grasp
lights are placed, you will move to the right side and lowering the
size of the brush. You will choose one of
the grass blades to place some beautiful spikes
displays almost like a fan. When doing these lines, you will want to keep the distance from
between them equal so they can have a very
beautiful and luxury. And look. Now let's
move the canvas and create on the other side of
the grass blades some of these beautiful spikes try to live from the same place with the ones from
the other side. Changing the angle and making these little leaves
very spiky and nice. As you can see, just
using these lines, you have succeeded to create a very elegant floral element that improves very much the
look of the illustration. Moving higher and continuing
with these lines. As you can see, they make a great effect
over the background. It helps a lot to
break a little bit of the monotony of the
black and white lines. Now let's move to the left
side and choose one more of those grass blades to create
those beautiful spiky lines. As you can see, you can
play with the direction of the lines to make the leaf
look much more interesting. And the life, look at how
nice this beautiful pink, orange color looks in front
of the dark bark of the tree. The simple blades
of grass changed so much the atmosphere
of this illustration. Looking at how pretty
the zebra looks in the back of those
delicate grass blades. Now you can play
a little bit with the color of this
grass plates so you can go to the layers and alpha lock the layer
of the grass blades. After that, you can go
to the color palette and grab this bright yellow
from the top right corner. Then you can grab
the textured brush and increasing the flow
and the size a little bit. Let's play some of this
beautiful yellow over the elegant grass blades just to give a little bit of a
different nuance over them. This will make them look much more interesting and decorative. Just a few passes of this bright yellow and the
illustration is finished. Congratulations and thank you so much for taking this course. If we enjoyed creating
this beautiful zebra, make sure you leave a
review and of course, share with the rest of the
world your own artwork. Thank you once more and see
you in the next course.
