About This Class
This class is designed to guide you through simple exercises with dots and lines in black ink. The activities are easy to follow, and no prior drawing skills are required. You will focus on repetition, rhythm, and observing patterns, rather than mastering a specific drawing technique.
During the exercises, you will:
- Draw dots and lines next to each other across several pages
- Experiment with different rhythms using a metronome
- Observe the textures and patterns that emerge naturally
The exercises are suitable for anyone who wants a hands-on, creative practice. You can complete them in about 45 minutes, or extend the practice up to two hours if you want to explore further.
Materials needed:
- 2–3 sheets of paper
- Black ink
- A brush
- A metronome
Hands-on Class Project
Students will explore a creative exercise using dots and lines in black ink. In total, you will create six pages:
- Two pages of dots
- Two pages of lines
- Two pages of dots guided by a metronome
Instructions for the first exercise:
1. Prepare your ink and paper
2. Begin drawing dots on your page, forming lines from top to bottom
3. Write any sentences or notes you like on the opposite page (optional)
4. Fill two pages of your notebook
For the second exercise, you will draw lines on the opposite pages.
By the end, you will have at least two double-page spreads in your notebook, filled with dots, lines, and optional notes. Your class project is to share one of these double pages. You can upload it in the “Projects and Resources” tab.
You are also welcome to share your observations or creative process in the “Discussion” tab. For example, you can talk about patterns, textures, or techniques you explored while drawing your dots and lines.
