Sampling has been a fundamental aspect of music production for decades. It's the art of taking snippets of existing songs, vocals or sounds, and repurposing them on your tracks to make something original. But how do I turn a simple sample to something unique and original that's worth several counseling. Throughout this course, we'll dive deep into the techniques used by the industry top DJs and producers. You will learn how to find the perfect samples, chop them up, fits, shift, time, stretch, and move more things to seamlessly integrate them on your music production workflow. So if you are excited and want to learn everything about sampling, insert a sample. Join me on this incredible journey. See you later on the course. 2. 1. First View: Have a first view of the shadow sample. Here is a play button. Here we've got the trigger mode. For example, if I go at the beginning of the Q point and I press on my midi keyboard, note C1. It will play until I lift my finger. But if I change this one, it will play until the end of the loop or until the head of the original, that time setting. Now, this one is the mono end the poll, this is the voice moles. So that means here I can play only now on the mono. I can play only one note at a time. But if I go and change it on Paulie, I can play multiple notes at the same time. I will show you later how you can use the poly voice mode. Let's go on now. And here we've got some information about our loop. This is the name of the loop. Here, It's finds that the Q is on a minor, and this is the BPM right now it says here 75, but it's the half of 150. The time of the loop. If I go here and set for the beginning of the mono and poly, select all and delete and choose this one here. And if I go in hit Play, you will see that the time is going to change. This is the eject button where you are going to load doubt the sample that you have inserted right now, here we got the key in the tune right now we see that assemble recognize that the track, that the drum loop is on a minor here you can change the pitching for the sample. For example, right now it sounds like this. In addition, we have here the detune option here. You can change the key of the sample with sense. Most of the times you can use this one if you want to fine-tune your sample. Let's go on here and you can see the 76 year. It means that tempo of our sample right now is seeing with the tempo from our project, which in this case is 152. And if you see here, and I go and change on 150, this one also changes on 75. You can deactivate this one and change it manually if you want. You can go here and go, let's say up and down. And additionally here you have the half-time and double time. So in this case, the 75 will become 150.300 and again back again and 37.5 and so on. And here we've got the link button, but I'm going to explain you later how you can use this one on your workflow. Here up we have the undo button, the Redo button, and the velocity, for example, here if I go and set the sample, this Q point, and I press on my midi keyboard, like with just a small touch, you can hear right away that the velocity is going to be triggered. Let's go and make it a bit louder right now. And on the right side from the velocity you see here the quantize option. So what does it do? Let's say, for example, I want to make this q of this sample. Let's zoom in and press, for example here. Right now, this manually activated here. But if I go and choose the Q point, and let's say for example, I want to do it here and I press on my midi keyboard. It will jump on the next bit here, so it will not get adjusted on this point that I wanted. We'll just get adjusted or the nearest bit grid. And here we've got the settings. Here you can see that we are using the 1.4 point. Something 3. 2. Waveform Display & Grid: Now let's go in here again and select all and delete here. We've got the navigation bar from our sample is little bit more zoomed in. And you can go at the beginning, you could go on the end, just dragging or just clicking here on the left side, we've got here the zoom in and zoom out. Or if you use a mouse, you can scroll in and scroll out. In addition, here we get the phrase view. So what does it do? Let's say, for example, I said also again this Q point. And previously without the view, this grid view enabled, you will see that this is going to be moved. And if I go and freeze of you, it's going to stay here. Here we've got the grid. If for example, let's say that the strategy didn't recognize right away that this is where it should start. You can go and set the beginning of the slope and set good start. And it will start from here. If I go and zoom out, you can see these white lines. This is for every bit, so 1234. Then we get the second bar, 1234, then the third bar, 1234, and so on and so on. Here we can see again the BPM of the drum loop. And we can set it also manually. Let's say for example, we want it to be on 80 or let's say, for example, a little bit quicker. I'll just go and hit Play and I will tap. Now changed. If you don't like, you just press cancel and it goes back. Let's go on the grid. And here you get also a metronome. Let's go again in the beginning. Here we've got the slip. When I click here on the right arrow, it moves the grid on the right side and on the left arrow, on the left side. It's going to zoom in again and put it on grid on 100 per cent that we are sure that we are starting here from the beginning. And here you have also the adjust, adjust if I go and change a little bit here you can see that the grids are changing a little bit. We have a bigger distance here. Let's cancel it, put everything how it was. Again, grid. We have 100% sure on point. If for some reason you want to start the grid, let's say here, for example, here you can go zooming, find the right point, clear all. And you can set the grid start here and you see that the number one appears here. And if I go here on the left side, you will see a minus one, then minus two, and so on. 4. 3. Parameters & Cuepoints: Let's go on and see this area. Right now we have the parameters here. Here is the output level here, for example, little bit when it plays, gets louder, quieter. Here you got a filter right now is deactivated, but these are going put it on the left side. Here. We have a high cut. Here we got a low cut. If you want to put it back on zero, you just press Option on your keyboard and click and it comes back on zero. And here we got the attack and release. This is like envelope. So for example, right now you hear this sound right away with a hat. But if I go and choose and open to attack, it starts later. And here are their release. Right now, I'm lifting my finger and it doesn't stop it right away. Right away. And this is with a bigger release. If I go and put it here, you're going to hear it. What does here? We've got the reverse. Let's go and put, for example, a point here and put it on reverse. Let's put it back again. Here we've got the cashier. For example, if you want, you can change the key only from this Q point and not on this viewpoint. Let's do it. Let's say I want it to be on plus five. And here you can see that it changes automatically on 33% for the time stretch. And it sounds like this. Now, if I go and put it on zero, you can see that it goes back again on zero here on the key shift. Let's go and activate the link. Let's go and put the release time on plus three, the time straight stays on zero per cent. Now you can hear what does in comparison with the first key point. But if I unlink this one, you can see that the drain time stretch goals a higher. Okay, let's put it back on zero here. We got also the favorite. So that means, for example, you liked this Q point and you press the favorite here. You can see right away that it stays like this. Let's say, for example, I said at this point, this point, here and here and here. And I don't like this cute points, but I really liked this favorite one. I can select all and delete, and the favorite point will still be there. Let's go back to the beginning. So the first key point. You can also go here and set it manually if you want with your key. Or you can go with your midi keyboard. And let's say for example, you want this Q point to be the C2 on your midi keyboard. You can proceed to goes here, and right now I'm pressing the C2 on my keyboard. You can also see here that I am pressing the CO2 or the pod 13. Let's go out to the beginning again. Right now you can see that I am pressing the C1 and the first part, here's the C-sharp 1.2. Right now, I am pressing the bad one. Right now. I am personally to part two on my midi keyboard. In total, we have 32 slots, so that means 32 key points. I have already shown you how you can go and select all and delete all. For example, let's say you have this Q points right now. Let's see here. Here. You can just select all and delete. Or you can go here on this cube point and delete it 5. 4. Setting Cue Points: Let's go now into this area here right now if I go and click on this arrow, you can see that we have the key shift pad, the center Adam said slicer finding samples and other DJ. Let's go and find sample. Just press this one on. Find samples. Right now, it found two samples here. The first one is here and the second one is this one. The finite sample precedes, uses the algorithm from strata sample to find three doubles Q points on your summary right now. So for example, if I go and let's try this one. And I said again, okay, find me some samples. Right now. It found these four samples we've done in the slurry together with square. Well, that's not where we're burning the slow. Yeah, when we're burning. Let's bring back the drum loop again. And the other person that we got here is the set slicer. And if I go and click this one, let's rattle sample plugin created 15 consecutive Q points on this sample with a certain length. But for example, if I go and put this one on a little bit shorter, you can see here that it does much more points. Let's go and put this one on to, for example. And right now we have here 1234, 567q point, and they have the same length. Let's go half-time this sample again. Right now it was on 150. If I go here and zoom in, you can see also this big arrows. If I go here on the right, you can see that it changes from this viewpoint here. If I go here, again, on the left side, it goes here. So it has other starting points. And again, it has another starting point. This is a really useful function when the sample is already quantized at, on grid because it will make the work easier for us. Let's go and select all and delete. Let's zoom in again and go at the beginning and set the first Q point. And here let's go the set random. And let's press this one. And now it, it, it found 32 cuboids. We can now let's go and select all and delete. And let's try also the first part here. This is the key shift pad. Let's press it. And now we have this sound. The gear shift button mode is an awesome tool because it changes the key of the sample. We have said the Q point, and it is a quick way to check how the sample could sound. In our case, another option that we have here, there are other DJ, but the shuttle between mode is for users who have already had a digit and analyzed some files, but we're not going to work with it in this video. The last thing that I wanted to show you about acute points is this one when you go and set it manually, Let's set, for example, the first one. And you can see here that we have two flags. Let's say this indicates the beginning of the Q point and the end of the Q-point. So right now, if I go in press a, it will play only from the beginning until the end. Here on the right side you can see an icon from a keyboard. And when I enable this one, I can play this region here on my keyboard and it will change pitch. Let me show you also one more thing that I really like on the strata sample. If I go and change, for example, the set random and I hit preset. Here you can see that we have so many salts slots, or you can go and select all. And here you can go and change the parameters. Let's say for example, you want to have a low cut on all the samples. Sorry, a high-demand. Or you want the attack to be bigger. And the release also. You can also go and q shift the whole cue points or do we got here? Let's go and delete everything. Let's go and set this cube by, for example here. And let's go and put this one on D. And you want, for example, to move this one on the a. To copy this one on the a, you just go and hold Alt on your keyboard and just drag it here. And now you have two different slots with the same start Q-point. Or you can just go and drag and drop on another coupon. This will help you, especially if you are drawing with your fingers 6. 5. Multioutput: The last thing that I want to show you before we dive in on how I use the other sample on my workflow is the multi-output. So let's say for example here I said some random coupons and it has this cube points. And right now here, if I go, if I go here, my output, I can see that the author is on master outputs. So everything is being triggered on the master output. And if I want to make this BST and multi-output, I have to go here and select the set of sample and use the multi output right now, if I go here and take this one for example, or this one, now, I can go and put it on channel two, and let's open the mixer. Here you can see that we have this minus and plus symbols. If I go and put the again on stereo, you will see that we don't have these two options. So let's go and put it back on multi-output. For example, this one here is, let's say on channel two. And let's add this channels so that we can see what we're doing. Right now. If I go in play, you can go on this channel and you can change, you can put some enqueuing and you can do so many different things is like an instrument. Let's go and put this one on the channel three. Now, you see that we have here on the channel three, here is the channel to. Now after all this theory that we have been through, let me show you how I use the pseudo sample on my workflow. 7. 6. Create Drum Shots From A Drum Loop: Start from the beginning and let's go and put this around to sample here. And here I've got my samples. Right now. We got this drum loop. So let me show you how I work right now. This is on 150. I know that this is not this is really quick. So I have to put it back on halftime. Let's delete this one that I accidentally made. And what I do here is I go here and choose some random coupons and click. Now we have this suggestion, so let's go and make it work. So that's going to zoom in right now. Okay, I want this cube point. If you go here, you can just go and drag this one at the beginning of this is going to be your new Q-point. And let's say, for example, I want this Q point to be only the hat. Okay? Now let's go on to the next. This is a close hot. Let's go and change this one to a close head. Again here at the beginning. Let's put this one here. By the way, if I am done and I like what I did, I will just put it on favorites. Again on the favorite that's gone. Such other two points. Here, we've got the club. The cupboard now is with a high hat. Let's go and see if we can make the owner of the club. Okay, let's go on to the next point. Let's favorite this one. So right now we've got this. We got this, and we've got this here. We got also an open hi-hat. This one here. It's going to find this. This one goes here. And let's put it here at the end. And now this is where we are going to use the release and you can hear me right away what we are doing. So listen carefully. Right now. I want this hard to build with open. This was previously. Okay. I like it. Let's go on. We got a room. But unfortunately, this room is with the hi-hat, but we can work with it. Let's favorite done. So this one, again, the same thing. Here we got narrow. Let's put this one also here. Favorite. Let's review what we get. Here. We got the hi-hat closed hi-hat Club. Arrived. Room with hi-hat narrow. Yeah. Let's go here and the beginning and let it play and see if we can find another sounds that we didn't get right now. I didn't find any other sounds that we can use right now. So let's go and select all and delete. And right now we have only our favorites here. We can go and put them on different slots. It depends what we like the most. So let's bring everything here together and let's go and check it out. If I get it right now we have it on stereo. Let's put it again on multi-output 16 stereo. Okay, right now we've got this one. Let's put this one on the master channel to this one on the channel three. This one on the channel for this one on the channel five, this one on channel six, and this one on the channel seven. Now let's go and open the mixer. So let's go and check it out. Correct? Correct. Correct. Correct. Correct. Correct. This wasn't let's delete this one. So the first one is here, second one, third one is here. And now we've got everything, wrote it 8. 7. 808 Settings: Let's go and put another one channel here and duplicate. This time we want it to be just as sample instead of a sample. And let's open it. And now we are going to insert the iterator. Let's close this one and set the first Q-point. This one is right now the activated, let's go and activate. Here's a difference. If you're sitting here, I accidentally also but this cube point, but you can go and delete it. So let's go in here and click the icon. And now you can go and play the iterate on your midi keyboard and it will be totally okay. So let's go and put it in one octave higher. But I would highly recommend you to go and choose this one to test it out. This is the version that we already mentioned that is going to be played from the beginning until the end of the sample. But also you can go and put this one back and work with a release That's making this one a bit loud so that you can hear what we do is bring it back. Now, let's listen carefully. What's the difference? This link button does? I find it? It's a matter of taste. I like how it sounds. Just linked. I can hear right away that when the link is deactivated, it has a bit more dirtier released, a dirtier tail on the sample. It's put the volume back again here on three 9. 8. Create One Shot Instruments: Going open, sample again. And let's go and add this panel once they got here. And now it sounds like this on our keyboards. Now here we've got mono, but we can go and choose it on Pali and then we can play multiple notes at the same time. You can also put this one here on the one-shot mode. It's like working with a piano pedal on your piano. But to say the truth, I wouldn't recommend this one because it sounds a bit not so satisfying my opinion. So you can go here and play with a release again. Sounds good. I think now I'm going to put the release a little bit closer here to the zero. Then it does more like a plucky sound. So until now we have here our drums. Let's go and rename this one drums. Here we've got the eight or eight. Let's go and rename this 1828. And let's go and check it. It's a multi-output sterile it's making on stereo because I sold a lot, was on channel one. Here we've got the piano. We just made. This one also was in multi-output. We don't need this one. Let's put it on stereo 10. 9. Basic Sampling & Quick Fix: And let's go and test one more thing. She I'm going to try and put a sample that I got. What is it? The vocal. This one. This is somebody that are made and it sounds like this right now. But here I can hear right away that something is wrong to say that chose because I know that this sample is on 130. If I go put this one on 130 and the sink, you see right away that somehow the sample found that the sample is on 180 ppm, it's going to change this one on 130. You see it changed at all. So right away, the key, Let's put it back on pseudo. Just for you to prove it like that. It is on 130. Let's go and put it on a channel. Here. Let's go ahead and put the metronome. You're going to hear that the sample is correctly right now on 130 BPM. But here's the strata sample didn't fight the correct timing. This is a common problem that this self-assemble. Hard to say the truth. I've tried to find a way, but it doesn't work like always. Let me show you what I must have the time do. Let's go and put this sample again. So right now, this is again on 130. Let's put it on Play. Now. We're going to do it manually. Let's go for this one on the Play and let's test it. Right now. It sounds much more closer. Let's put this one on 134. Yeah, the starting point is here. I don't know why. Let's go and clear all. For this one. The grid starts and zoom out. And let's have a listen how it sounds now. This was a quick work around how you can fine-tune the BPM yourself, because sometimes the south assemble will not find the correct BPM of your sample. 11. 10. Let's Make A Quick Beat: Now that we're clear, this thing, Let's go and try to work with. What do we got that till now? Right now we got the drums here. Let's go one octave down. Shift. Delete this one that I just made. Let's go and make it a quick bit. Let's go ahead and make it four bar here. Let's go create midi region. And I know that we are on C1, which is, okay. It's good to make a two-step. Right now. I just want to make a quick bid to demonstrate what you can do with a solid sample. Let's go and put it on 150. So we enabled to here this one playing altogether. We have to go again here on the shadow sample, and we have to click on the poly. And now we can here also the rim. Let's put it here. Let's say, for example, that we got this bit here. Let's bring it this one on the last one. And we want to go and add the iterate. Let's make it a little bit louder. Alexa Watson, these rooms that we can hear right now. This one here also. Maybe here. No. Okay. Let's say for example, that we got this right now we are on C minor, but we can change to this one later. Let's go and mix a little bit to the drought that we've got right now. Okay, here we've got, we've got also the piano. You can go and play with it. How do you can also go and put the sample that we got earlier right now the sample is on E minor. Let's go and change this one on C minor. And to check it out, if it works, Let's go and set some random key points. Now we've got this one That's gonna mute to try some other speech. We've got the same problem that we mentioned earlier. And you can go and try to fix that again. So let's go and select all and delete. Here on the Q-point. The activate the sink. And also this one here. Let's go and make also the project on 130. Nowadays on sync. So you can go and link it again, sync. Let's go and put it again on 150 and see if we fix this. Okay, now it works fine. But to see the truth, I don't really like how it sounds right now on the random, this is why I would go and select all and delete. And then I will just set the slicer here. Ed said Slicer, right now we've got this for now on mine. I really like hotels way around. And let's go and test the eighth note, the two. Let's go and put it on C minor. That's how it sounds until we've already right. You can go and play around with the cuboid stuff that we have said and to share the truth at the end of the day, it's just a matter of taste, how you like to manipulate your samples.
