2. Overview: Everyone has talents and abilities. Everyone and here are six ways to discover yours. Everyone has talent, something that they are good at. If you don't know, are you confused as to what yours are? This short course is specifically designed to help you discover them. Yes, absolutely. Everyone has gifts and natural abilities. The problem is that some people don't recognize them for what they are, and that goes for the person with these gifts and abilities. And it also goes for the people around them as they grow up. And if, as you were growing up, you didn't recognize what your natural gifts and abilities were on the people around you didn't either. You may well have reached adult Hood, either just not knowing or we're still thinking you have no gifts, no talents. But you do. Because everybody does is just a matter of finding them, and we're going to help you find them out. We're going to do exercises on, find out what yours are. So if you're one of Phil's who have grown up not knowing where you shine where you're different, where you're special and no one around here apparently knowing what your gifts your abilities. While either here are six exercises to help you find them out on all these exercises. Air. Very easy. Very simple. They're quite fun to do on that. By the end of it, I'm pretty sure you will have found some things that you just love to do on that you are really, really good at doing at these air, your gifts and talents.
3. Make a list: number one is make a list off. All the things you like to do may seem pretty obvious, but half you actually made a list before. Make a list and just keep adding to it. Any time something else occurs to, or any time you find yourself doing something that you really enjoying, it doesn't matter. Heart trivial or small, these things are even. It is just a small part of a larger thing. Write that down, too. Keep the list somewhere handy. It could be on your phone. It could be on your computer. Or, if you like paper, it could be on paper. But keep it somewhere where you won't lose it and it's their toe. Add to any time you want. Add to it every time you realize, Hey, this is something I enjoy. While you may find later on is that things you enjoy that previously haven't been related to each other work really well. When couple together, it's like a jigsaw. The pieces will fit together and make a whole. So here's a personal example of that. I enjoy learning and using techie stuff. I love computers. I'm also a personal development enthusiast on I madly keen on understanding what makes people tick so personality, personal development and techie stuff. I also love teaching. So here I am, teaching online courses on personal development and personality, which I create on my computer. So I've combined all these skills into doing one thing that I thoroughly enjoy doing. Yours probably won't be the same as mine, but you could do the same. You could come by and lords of things that you enjoy doing into one activity. So once you have a list of things you enjoy, consider how you might combine two or more of them to create one thing that you would really love to be doing. That's sexist size one.
4. Track of time: number two is considered the times that you just lost track of time. What have you lost? Track of time. And when you came back to awareness, you realize that time has gone by and you were lost In doing what? That what is something you obviously love doing on Probably are pretty good at or getting ghouta. So look at all these things that you lose track of time when you're doing, I lose track of time when I'm playing on the computer, like creating this course, for example. So what do you do that you just so enjoy that you're just totally unaware of time passing? You're unaware of what else is going on? You're just so into whatever it is so enjoying it that it fills you and you just don't notice what else is going on in the world. Everybody has something like that. Now, obviously, what you're meditating or maybe looking at the water, the waves or whatever, that does it too. But that's a little bit different because you're you're not actively creating or, you know, your its its internal that. But what are you actually doing in the external world that you are so into that you just don't notice time passing. Think about it, spend some time doing it on the next thing that you've been doing something and you come back to the world, you say, Oh, wow. I didn't even know service into that for so long. Right at that. Your list as well. It's a tough thing to recognize to begin with, because you are unaware of it while you're doing it. And when you come back, you just go on with what you were previously doing. But paying attention to it will help you notice it and recognize it on things that you lose track of time. Doing are always very strong things that you love and you generally pretty good at them. So these are gifts and abilities and talents, anything that you lost, track of time doing at them to your lists and keep adding. So that's stumper, too.
5. People ask you to help: number three. It's what do people ask you for help with? Just about everyone gets asked for help now and again with something. It's if anything that might suggest your talent, it doesn't have to be physical. It could be communication or emotional support, the requesting, which might lead to helping others in some way as your talent. Think back over the times that your help has been requested. Is there any situation that occurred repeatedly that you were asked to help with? Now this could be at work. It could be at home. It could be with friends. Family. It could be anywhere any time. Is there something that people tend to come to you to ask for when they need it? This is some way in which the way you are as a person or the things that you conduce seem to fit to help other people. I don't want anyone to say no. There is no is not an answer to this question. The only answer to this question is whatever it is that people ask for your help with, Or maybe they don't even ask. Maybe you just offer the help. Maybe you just say, Can I help you with this? Thank you. Part carefully. What things do you do that? Help other people come up with a list off those Onley things that you like, write down everything to begin with, whether you like them or not, and then cross out ones you don't like. But before you cross them out, think Is it everything about this that I don't like or do I like some parts of it, but it's just one bit or some pits I don't like. And if that's the case, right down the bits, you do like even though it's just part of something because, as we learned in the last lesson, you can confine various parts and make a whole so right out any little bit that you enjoy if things that you have done to help other people. So at those two year lists, assuming it was something you enjoy doing always on Lee that you enjoyed. So that's number three
6. Ask friends: number four his ask friends, and it could be family as well. What they think you are good at. Ask your friends to tell you what the value about you. It's a good idea to do so in an email or attacks rather than verbally, or if you do it verbally, asked him to write it down and send it to you. That way they take time to consider it more fully. Now. This is an exercise that when I was working as a career counselor, we used to do in the workshops every time we did a career planning workshop on. The reason is that when you ask people to tell you about yourself and they put it in writing, they actually give excellent ideas. You may, if you want, choose to Assam specific questions. If you have an idea what area you want to go in, are you think the people you're asking Mike give you ideas that are in an area you don't want to go in? Then my Omi's asked some questions. You can do that to the email or text us well, but one way the other find out what they value you for because you will get some very wonderful answers. You'll get answers that will help you choose what you what you want to do what you're naturally good at, but at the same time it builds self. It's seem when you hear we don't normally go around telling each other what we value each other for. And when you hear or read what they say about you, your self esteem will rise in leaps and bones is a wonderful exercise just for self esteem as well. But to find out what your gifts and talents are, it works like a charm. So I really encourage you to do this one on ask It could be friends, family. It could be co workers. Just anybody you know, who you think might have an idea off something that you they consider you good at or they value you for both are two separate questions. Really what we value for what you good out. Ask them both and find out what they say is a exercise well worth doing. What tip. If you're doing this, however, always tell your friends you do not want them to suggest job titles to you and again. I know this from experience from doing it with lots and lots of people, partly because this exercise is not necessarily about guessing a job, but also people often if you don't tell them that you will just be given a list of jobs you have already done because people look at you and say, Oh, yes, you were that there for you must be good at that. And they tell you jobs you've already done and that rather defeats the purpose of the exercise so mentioned to them. You don't want to be given titles are any job you've already done. It could be to tell you specific parts of a job you really good at. That would work. But you don't just want the list of job titles off things you've done. Instead, stress. You want to know what individual things, small things or big things that your friends, family co workers, if you choose to include them what they consider to be your strengths. If you like what they tell you at these things, to your list of things you love to do. If you don't like the sound of anything, if it's just something you do because you ca Nduwayo. It don't add it to your lists either yes or no. Do I like it or do I not? And that's exercise number four.
7. Start a Collection: number five start a collection off things that are of interest to you. Random things. If you see something anywhere, any time that you find interesting, it belongs in this exercise. If you're collecting these things manually, put pictures of things that have attracted your interest into an envelope or it could write little notes to yourself. If you don't have a picture, keep anything. Pay no attention to whether you have previously put in something similar. That doesn't matter. Just keep adding stuff for a couple of weeks or so. Then take them all out, spread them out and look at them. What patterns do you see while keeps appearing over and over? These are things that have a strong attraction for you. So look at all the notes that you've made to yourself. For all the pictures that you've collected on, just see are are there certain things are things from my starting area that keep appearing over and over again because they must have attracted your attention over and over again to be there. So just read all your notes. Just see what we all say and see what it tells you what interests have come. Hopefully your notes will have more on them, the mine in the graphic there. But I just have a look at all the notes you've collected and all the pictures. If you're doing this, exercise Elektronik Lee. Take screenshots of things you like or save images if you can, and saved them all in one folder. Then again after a couple of weeks, have a look and see what you've saved at sea what it tells you. So it's the same exercise. Only your drink it on a computer instead of on the table, so just look and see what you've collected. What patterns have many things? Have you saved over and over again? What's it telling you? You can, of course, collect some manually is some electronically if you want, but one way, the other just collect images off things that you enjoy that you're fascinated by that interest. You or write little notes and keep a lists. Keep them all together in a folder or an envelope and then afterwards look at them. That's when you add the ones who are most interesting to you to your list. This is number five
8. Yellow pages: number six Yellow Pages exercise. There are really no yellow pages anymore, or at least not the paper directories everyone used to have in their homes. But this exercise can still be done in an updated version when you wherever you live. There is likely a government website that lists occupations with lots of details about each job, the pay, the qualifications necessary, etcetera. But all you want right now is to scroll through the occupational titles to see what appeals to you. If you don't know what a job is on, the title doesn't mean much to you. Just skip it and keep on going, collecting only the ones that sound interesting and you don't need to get the job just in case you're thinking I can't do this job. That's not what this is about. You may not have the money, time or interests to qualify for some of the jobs that you like the titles off. But what we're looking for here is what is it that appeals to you about the job title? What do you like the sound off? It doesn't matter what other things. The job includes all we're looking for its what does that trigger in your mind that you say I like this. It doesn't matter right now if that is really what the job is actually about, either. Just what is it that appeals to you from the title? Write that down on your lists. It doesn't matter where the idea came from. It came from this Yellow Pages exercise. But that doesn't matter. It gave you an idea off something you like. So it belongs on your lists. What appeals to you? Not necessarily the job title, although it could be that, too, if a whole job appeals to you. Great. Later on, Given check back and find out all the details about how to get into that line of work if that's what you want to do. But for now, just at what is of interest to you to your lists. As I said, many countries, states and provinces have their own occupational listings website. But just in case you can't find a local one, I'll give the your thank you the U. R L. Off the huge US government site, which has more about jobs than anyone ever needs to know. It doesn't matter if you're not in the US all. You're looking for his ideas off. What interests you? If you're on that site, I would suggest you click on the drop down menus for either career cluster or job family to begin with. As then, click on any other area that looks interesting. Career cluster and job family. When you click on the drop down menu, they both give you lists off jobs so they gives us a title. That's where you look and see. Is there something here that appeals to me or not? And this is a huge site, the US site. So don't get overwhelmed. Just check out areas you genuinely have an interest in and skim past arrest. There's the website URL, but I'll also retelling to this and other similar sites in other countries as an attachment for this course. So you can browse through the one that's most local to you is all English speaking ones that I'm putting in, or you can check out this one. So one way or the other, this is Exercise six
9. Conclusion: conclusion. Now it's strictly speaking. What you have from all the exercises is things that you like on, perhaps can do to some extent. But here's a secret for you. Your natural abilities and gifts are always things that you like. So if there's anything you don't like on your lists, score it out right now. You may don't like everything about every one of them, and you may not yet be a genius at doing any of therm, but if you generally enjoy them, I can do them at least a bit. It's pretty sure your gifts lead in that direction, so get started with one or more of thumb and see where it leads. Sometimes it will lead in a new direction. I know a woman who was convinced she would be an artist, and so off she went to art college. She found fate painting extremely boring after a while, but discovered sculpture, and to this day she works in that field, And yet before she went to art college, it had never occurred to her to do sculpture. So she found an area she was interested in, and by looking into it, she found something else that was of more interest than what she originally thought off on . That could happen for you to so liking one thing letter to another similar thing on that was what turned out to be her gift. And that's how it often works. You already do something, but it just doesn't satisfy you. But look around that something. After all, there was some reason you got into it in the first place. On perhaps you'll find something in some way related to it that you just love doing. Of course, as far as a job is concerned, there are far too many people in jobs just because they need to earn a living, and they really have no particular liking for that job. So if that's you, both look within a job to see if there's something anything in the job that you do like. But also look outside your job, toe, other things you do and enjoy. Just because it's not part of your job right now doesn't mean it can't be in the future. And I totally understand if you just have to do something right now because you need the money but has absolutely no reason. Not to look around for what you can do later on. So go on the journey off discovery and know that your gifts and talents will make themselves known to you. If you just keep on following what you have a keen interest in on enjoy. I encourage you to keep on looking until you find your treasure chest of talents and gifts that you love using whether you use it for a job or not, find out what you love to do and do it. So congratulations on finishing this course. If you haven't already completed all the exercises, do take time to consider doing it, as it will greatly increase your chances off finding your natural gifts and talents.
