1. Course Welcome And Introduction: Being an entrepreneur
is about many things. It's about the thrill of imagining a new business
and seeing it through to the point of launch is the vision and dreams of all at that business can eventually become and is constantly striving in driving for the top to reach
your ultimate goal. Entrepreneurs are those
who see possibility for others don't and accept
challenges that others won't. This is entrepreneurial life. Everyone, welcome back to another entrepreneurial
life course on Skillshare. My name is Ken, how
will your teacher? So I've got a question
for all of you. Do you have all sorts of videos
on your phone or maybe on your computer that you will love to make look professional, that you'd love to edit and make them look like the
videos you see they're really nicely done on YouTube or on Facebook or Instagram. But you just don't know how you think it takes all sorts of complex and expensive
software and hardware in years of
experience in a lot of money. Well, the reality is you don't need to have
all those things. I'm going to show you a really, really great video capturing and editing software program
called Screencast-O-Matic, which I discovered last year, just happen to come across it. And I've been using it for all my courses on Skillshare and any other place I launched
videos such as YouTube. I use Screencast-O-Matic to
edit the videos and make them look just like Steven
Spielberg worked on the video. Would you love to
have texts the slides into your video and
then slides out? Or maybe you'd like to
have that same text pop in and then pop
out of the screen. Would you love to have
a picture overlay in your video or even a video
overlay in your video. You need an arrow like that, pointing to something
in your video. Or maybe you need a
blurry section to blur out something
sensitive in your video. Well, the reality is you
can do all these things with Screencast-O-Matic
and a whole lot more. In this course, I'm going to
go over all those things and other video editing
features that you can get in use so simply and easily, thanks to Screencast-O-Matic, we'll go over all those
in each of the lessons. Now I don't want
you to go anywhere because in the next video, the first lesson of the course, we're going to have a very
special interview with somebody who works at
Screencast-O-Matic. His name is Logan
and he's going to introduce you to
Screencast-O-Matic. Some of the features they have, including some of the new
features which I think you'll find very, very exciting. So don't go anywhere. You want to see that
interview with Logan? At the end of the course. Of course, we're going
to have a class project. In the class project is
going to be real simple. I want you to take
a video that you have and I want you to edit it. I want you to put a transition at the beginning of the video. And I want you to put a
transition at the end. I want you to overlay some
texts, just like I showed you. I want you to
overlay a picture or a video if you would
like, into it. Again, just like I showed you. And then we're gonna do
some video or excuse me, some music overlays like
you hear in this video. I'll show you how to
do all those things and more in this course. So don't go anywhere. Now if you want to get
Screencast-O-Matic before starting the
course, you can do it. Or if you want to go
through the course and see if it's right for you, get it and then
re-review the course, you can do that to whatever feels right for you
is what you can do. So don't go anywhere. The next lesson is the interview with Logan from
Screencast-O-Matic. And then we'll get
into all the features. I think you're going to
really, really enjoy this. It's a lot of fun and
it's going to open up a whole new world of
things you can do with your videos and
how you can edit them and share them.
So don't go anywhere. Let's get started
with the course.
2. Logan Interview : Okay everyone, welcome
back to the course. I'm glad you decided to explore a little bit
further with me, speaking of which
I'd appreciate it if you would follow
me on Skillshare. I've got a lot of courses
coming up, many things planned. So we can go up to my name, you can click follower, go to My Profile and
click follow there. That way you'll be made
aware of all the courses that I have coming up
in the months ahead. And again, I've got
a lot of plans. I'd really be excited to share
all those things with you. So click follow and you'll be made aware
of all those releases. Alright, so as promised in the
first video of the course, and get a real special
treat for you guys. I've got an interview
with somebody who works at Screencast-O-Matic. His name is Logan, and he is
somebody that's been very, very helpful to me over
the last several months. And learning how to use Screencast-O-Matic
as easy as it is, you may have some questions. And the folks of
Screencast-O-Matic are really there to help you up. And that's one of
the things I want to stress as there are people who work at
Screencast-O-Matic. So if you have questions,
you can feel very comfortable reaching out to them at the following
email address, which I'll put on
the screen here. And you can just reach out to them via that e-mail and
somebody like login or one of his co-workers
will get back to you guys and answer
the question for you. So with that, why don't
I turn it over to login and logout and
thank you very much. Welcome. I appreciate
your being here. If you could just
take a few moments to explain to my students what
Screencast-O-Matic is. A brief overview. And then perhaps going to talk
about the screen recording feature and then finish
off with some of the features that
Screencast-O-Matic offers. Logan, take it away. Hey, can thank you
for having me. It is an absolute pleasure
to be here and it's really been great getting to know you through our emails
back-and-forth. So guys, like Ken said, if you need help, we will be here to help you. So hopefully I will get to know some more of you
if you come join us. But yeah, to give
a brief overview, we're Screencast-O-Matic. We make screen
recording software, which is sort of
the basics of it. But in general, we also
do a video recording, video hosting, and a lot
more to get a basic idea. At its root, Screencast-O-Matic
is a screen recorder. So you can imagine if you're
building educational videos, I want to take videos of something
playing on your screen. You will never
record a PowerPoint. We offer the ability to really record whatever
your screen is playing. You can marry over those
videos while it's playing. And you can also
capture the audio from your computer, like e.g. YouTube video. Other than that, we also offer video editing. So different kind of host post filming things you can add to a video rather than try to
add them during recording. So if you want to overlay images that can slide
and transition in. If you want to overlay videos. If you want to add
text to your video. We also offer different kind
of like scripting abilities. There's, there's
really a lot and I recommend checking out
our tutorials page. You can really find the
most of the features there. So other than that, we offer video hosting two. So similar to how videos
are uploaded to YouTube, we can host videos for you. And yeah, I think that that kind of sums it
up in a nutshell, I hope, but please do check
out our tutorials pages. We also have
Screencast-O-Matic blog. You can learn a lot there, so yeah, if you'd
like to learn more, please check out our site. Please email us if you
have any questions, and I will hand it back to you. Okay, Logan, Thanks. That was a really good introduction to Screencast-O-Matic
for my students. I really appreciate your
being here, So thanks again. Alright, so we talked
about a lot of things there of what
I wanna do now is I want to get into the
meat of the course and actually go
over those things, show you what they are and
show you how they work. So why don't we go onto
the next lesson and we'll start really getting into
the fun stuff. Let's go.
3. Screen Record Feature: Hey everyone, welcome back. I hope you enjoyed that
interview with Logan. I found it really fun to do. And in fact, that
was the first time I was able to see him. I've talked to him
via email so many times he has been
incredibly helpful. But actually seeing his face
and being able to put a face to the words or to
the voice so to speak. That was the first time. So I enjoy doing it. I hope you guys enjoyed
seeing it and hearing it, and learning a little bit
more about Screencast-O-Matic and some of the features
that it has to offer. So one of the things
we've talked about there was the screen capturing
or the screen recording, which is something that I use. The most prominent feature that I use is the video editing, which we're going to talk
about after this lesson. The screen capture is something that I
use quite a bit in. It's very important.
I've done e.g. slideshows using Google
slides and then I can record the actual slideshow
and narrate over it to make a lesson for a
course and I'm making. So it's really been helpful. You can record something
off of YouTube anywhere, any sort of screen grabber, screen capture. You want to do. The screen capturing a
screen recording feature from Screencast-O-Matic
is really fantastic. So what I'm gonna do here is I'm actually going to take and use the Screencast-O-Matic
recording feature to record one of their
tutorials from their site. Because it was
kinda technically, technically difficult
for me to do a screen recording of me
using the screen recorder. It was tough to do and really
didn't work out too well. Some sort of double
thing going on there, like a black hole I
might fall into by doing some sort of
thing like that. So it really didn't
work out technically. I'm just going to
transition from this. We're gonna go and we're going
to watch their tutorial, which is a couple
of minutes long. It talks about some
of the major features of the screen recording
and how to use it. And then we'll conclude
this lesson with that. Then after that, we'll
move on to some of the video editing features
in the next lesson. So take a look at this video and then we'll go
from there. Thanks. Welcome to
Screencast-O-Matic, a fast, free and easy to use screen
and web cam recorder used by millions worldwide.
Let's get started. Click here to start recording and then
launch the recorder. If it's your first time, you'll be prompted to download

4. Introduction To The Video Editor: Alright, Well there you have it. The screen recording feature
of Screencast-O-Matic. And it really is very simple. As you see, you just click on the Record button and then
that box is going to open up. You can size the
box as you need to, to fit your needs. You can choose
different microphones. You can do your screen
and your webcam, or just your screen
or your webcam. It's really great. It's very full-featured yet
it's pretty basic and simple. So not a lot of stuff
that you don't need, just the stuff you do need in a really couldn't
be simpler to use. Alright, so now that
we have that done, what I wanna do is start getting into the meat of the course, which is the video editing. So let's take a look at the
video editor interface. I'm going to show you some
of the things on there, the one I have on my computer, some of the features there. So I'll introduce you to that and then we'll
conclude this lesson, and then we'll get
into the next lesson. We'll actually start
doing some video editing. So you can see how to do this and really have
some fun with it. So let's get over to
my computer screen and start taking a look
at the video editor. Okay, So here we are on my desktop and we're
inside the video editor. Now, if you listen to
the video regarding the screen recording the
Screencast-O-Matic video. You notice they said
you'll need to download the software prior to
using the recorder. So what's going to
happen when you do that? It's going to download the software obviously
onto your computer. And then you'll get an icon to Screencast-O-Matic
bulls-eye on your desktop, I happen to have a pin
to my bottom taskbar. So when you click on that
Screencast-O-Matic icon, this is what's going to
open up on your desktop. Let's just walk through
this a little bit so you can understand
what's going on here. So I've taught here we have
the record functionality. You click on it, it will
open up the record window as you saw in the video
from Screencast-O-Matic. We mentioned in the
video with Logan the stories functionality and I'm going to touch on
that a little bit later. But when you want
to get to that, you simply click on this icon. And it will open
up that for you. If you want to import a
video from your desktop, you can click on this. And if you want to connect
with things such as Microsoft Teams connect
with WebEx or Zoom. You can click here. Now the videos are
organized by time, so I have the most recent
organized on here. If you want to
change that, you can go to this arrow right over here and change it. So it's the least
noteworthy oldest. I prefer to have the newest. Up on top here you
can see that I have 52 videos and I
have three images. You can do screen grabs. It can do screenshots with Screencast-O-Matic simply
by clicking on this. So that's yet another
functionality that you have with
Screencast-O-Matic that really makes us an incredibly
versatile piece of software to have
on your computer. I do that a little bit. You can see I have three, but I do a lot with the videos. So a lot of these videos are
appearing blue because I, as a trademark of mine, I always fade my videos in
from blue and red to blue. So what you're seeing is
the very first split second of the video, which is blue. Now if you want to
manage the videos, you can click on
this button up here. You can add or remove. You can copy, you can
export, you can delete. It was a lot of functionality
here for you to use to organize and add to and subtract from your
video collection. Unclicked add to get back to
the standard editor desktop. Now when you're done
with all that and you want to select a video to edit, simply click on the video. This window will open up. Click down here on Edit. And that will open
up your edit window. So I'm going to stop
this video here. We're gonna go to
the next lesson. I'm going to increase the
size of the recording box. So you can see this bar right here is a little bit cut off. So I'm going to increase the
size of the recording box. And I'm going to
show you guys how to do cuts in transitions. And you'll notice
the transitions is already highlighted
in the toolbar. So let's move on to the next lesson and
I'll see you there.
5. Cuts and Transitions: Alright, so welcome
back to the course. So that's the video editor. We just went over
that and you can see it's a really nice basic, simple interface, just like with the video screen recording and not a whole lot of
stuff you don't need, justice stuff you do need. And what we're gonna do now is really get into
the fun stuff. We're going to start
editing our videos. So what we're going
to start with in this lesson is we're
going to do two things. We're going to do cutting. We're gonna do transitions. Now cutting is just
what it sounds like. You're going to cut the
video either at the front and back or
somewhere in the middle. And then transitions
is when you e.g. transition from the
beginning on all my videos, you may see that I
transitioned from blue into the video and then
I transitioned out of the video into blue. So I'm going to show you how
to do transitions like that. And it's a whole bunch of
options on transitions, not only different colors, but different ways
like flips and that sort of thing
to do transitions. So in this course we're gonna do cuts and we're going
to do transitions. Let's go back to my computer screen and get right into that. Okay, here we are back
at the video editor. And I'm going to show you how
to do cuts and transitions. So let's choose a video. In this case, I'm gonna do the Grand Canyon video
that I recorded. Open that up. Come down here to
the Edit button. Hit that. For us. It opens up
the edit window. I'm going to make
note of one thing. When I recorded
this, the microphone that I'm using right now to talk to you recorded the music that was
included in his video. If I had this button clicked on, it would have the sound on
them when we play this video. I don't want that because
it'll be too distracting. So you can get rid of the sound without
deleting it just simply by clicking this off and it just removes it without deleting it. If you want to get the sound
back, just click it on. In our case, I'm going
to click it off. So what I wanna do
first is I want to show you how
to do these cuts. So what I'm gonna do is play this video and you
notice that it will change from this
scene to another scene. And what I wanna do
is I want to cut out this introductory scene and it's starting to fade right now. So I've hit stop, I hit the pause button. And when I'm going to use is the back arrow on my keyboard. As I do that, it's going to take the timeline
and move it back just a little bit in very
small increments until we get to the point where we're just at about
full fade out for this video. And that's fine.
You the syllabus of image there, but
that's just fine. I like that because I'm
going to put a fade into my own on top of this. So what I'm gonna do now is I'm going to click on the Tools, drop-down or drop up
as the case may be. And I'm going to click on cut. That's a tool I want to
use now unfortunately, I couldn't get the box wide enough to get all
these things in without really getting the
recording area too small. But what it says is drag bar below or use arrow keys
to select what to cut. So I'm gonna show you
first on this end, I'm going to show you how
to use the mouse to take your mouse when you put
it over the red bar, which is now highlighted red to indicate that's where
we're starting our cut. I can drag that to the
front of the video. So this whole area
right now that's highlighted in red is where
we're going to cut out. If I wanted to test
what that looks like, I can hit this button right now before committing to this cut. So it's going to show
you what it will look like after you do the cut. And that's what
it's going to be. So that's what I want. I liked that and so I'm
going to commit to that cut. And now that's section is gone. If I go back all the
way with the timeline, it gets to that point where it's almost fully faded out black. And if I move the timeline, you can see there's a red bar, red striped bar, which is indicating there
was a cut right there. Now we're going to
do the same thing at the end of the video. So we're going to come
right about here. And you notice it changes. So we'll hit play. And that's where it changes. So I'm going to use
the back arrow again. I'm going to move my time bar
until we get to that point. Now in this instance there's
no fade-in, fade-out. They just did a quick cut
from one scene to the next. So what I'm gonna do
is edit it right here. The split-second I'm going to lose of this scene
doesn't matter to me. So you notice that the cut is already highlighted
because we just use that. So rather than having
opened the box up, I can just hit this. And again, my time bar is
now highlighted in red. So the first time
when I did was use the mouse to pull that bar. Now I'm going to show you
how to use this arrow. This arrow is just
on your screen. If you click this
arrow right here, you can see everything from here to the end of the
video is highlighted. I'm not going to test it because I know this is what I want. So I'm simply going to click
Okay and commit to this cut. And now that's the
end of the video. If I wanted to cut
something in the middle, let's say I wanted to cut
from 40 s roughly until, let's say 55 s. I could do another
cut so I could put the time bar
where I want it. And if you need really precise. Movement of your time bar. You can use your arrow keys
and is very, very precise. You can see I'm going from
0.08 s to 0.02, 0.12 to 0.16. So very precise movements. So if I want to cut from
there to save 55 s, we can cut, hit the cut. Again. Our bar will open
back up as red. And I can bring it
right over and get a right on the 52nd. I'm 50.2 s. That's fine. I want
to cut that out. So this whole area is what's going to be
cut out if you have a mistake in your video
or just something you don't want there,
you can cut it out. I'm going to commit to that. And it tells you right here it's 10.04 s is what
you're cutting out. If you need help or tutorial,
you can click on this. It'll bring you to the tutorials
on the screencast page. If you don't like
this, you can just cancel it out and get rid of it. In this case, I like it. Let's keep it will
commit to that. And you'll notice that there's
another red staggered bar right here indicating
that there was cut. So I have a cut here, cut here, and I have a cut here. Now to finish this lesson, let's put in one of
my trade or two of my trademark blue transitions. So we bring the time bar back to the very
front of the video. Click on our Tools drop-down. At the very bottom
is transitions. Click on that. You notice right here
you get the blue line indicating it's gonna be a
2.0 for second transition. If you want to increase
the time of transition, you can go to three or 4 s.
And you'll notice as I do that this pyramid
increases in size. I'm just going to stick
with the normal two-second. Up here is what's
going to allow you to choose what type of
transition it is. I've chosen a fade. But if you open this up just
in your box here you notice all the different types of transitions that are possible
with Screencast-O-Matic. And it's showing you right there what those transitions are. I always stick with the fade. So that's what we're gonna do. You can change the direction of it, which I'm not going to do. I'm going to leave
it just as this. If you want to change the
color of your transition, you can do so up here. I stick with the blue, so that's what
we're going to use. So if I want to
test that out now, there it is transitioning
from the blue. I'm going to take the time bar and I'm going to go all
the way to the end. I'm going to click
on transition again. You can see there's
another blue pyramid here. I liked that. Just
off your screen, I'm going to click, Okay. Take this time bar and
put it just right here. Click the play button. And now it's going to
fade out too blue for me. So there you have
it. It's that easy. It couldn't be more simple
to cut input transitions in. And remember what that
process looked like. They had to be a couple
of dozen, at least, of transitions you
can use flips, fades, pixelated, really, really cool
stuff that you can use. I generally always use this
fade in, fade out from blue. But again, you can do so
many different things. It's just really cool
and fun to play with. Alright, so once we're done, if we like what we've
done, we click Done. And that gives us the option
of saving as a video file to our desktop or uploading
the Screencast-O-Matic. In this case, I'm just
simply gonna go back to the video editor and
we'll be all set. And you can see now
that this video is edited with the blue
transition into beginning. So that's it. Let's get to the next lesson where we're
going to talk about overlays. We're gonna do a video
or image overlay. We're also gonna do some texts. So stay tuned for that.
6. Inserting Arrows and Sound Effects: Alright, so welcome back. In there you have it. How to insert video
or image overlays and also texts overlays
into your video. And I think this stuff
is really cool and fun. I think the fact
that you're here still watching the
course means you'll find it just as fun and
just as cool as I do. I love this stuff and that's why I'm teaching it to you guys. Alright, so we're not
going to stop there. I have a couple other types of overlays or insertions
I want to show you. So what we're gonna
do now is shapes like the arrow that I put in the beginning of
video of this course. I'm going to show
you how to do those. And I'm also gonna
show you how to insert sound effects like this. So stay tuned. Let's get over to
my computer now. We'll take a look at how to
do these types of insertions. So let's go. Alright, so here we are back at our
Grand Canyon video. And I want to show
you how to insert a shape like an arrow
into your video. So once again, I
want you to open up your tools, drop-down menu. Go to overlay and you'll
see that they have when specifically for arrows. So you're going
to click on that. And what I can do is simply
click in here and my video, and I can draw an arrow. Once I do that, it opens
up this box around it. I can grab the arrow and
I can move it around. If I want to grab the circle
on the bottom corner, I can do that and move
it around that way. And the same thing with
this circle at the top. And then move back just a little bit pointed out this formation. Now let's open the
Quick Style box. Customized style. So you have options with how you want the
start of your arrow to look and how you want the
end of your arrow to look. So when I opened this up, take a look at the
start of the arrow. I can make it look like this. Open circle, closed circle, open square, closed square. I can even make it look like an arrow in the opposite end. I liked this open circle, so I'm going to make mine
start with that open circle. And I can also change
the end of the arrow. In this case, I'm going
to change it from the regular point
to this open point. And I like that. Now if you want to
change the color and some of the other styles of it, you can click on that. Green, gray, bright green. I like to read that it was, I'm going to stick with that. Down here you have opacity. So if you want to change
the opacity of your arrow, grab your handle
and scrub it back. And as you do that, your arrow
become more see-through. The image behind it will
start showing through it. I don't want any opacity to it. I'm going to make sure
that it stays fully read. So I'm going to have it all
the way off to the right. Then the thickness
of my arrow can also be changed with this
handle right here. Glide that back and
forth and change that. Or I can simply use
the counter in that. We'll change it later
right around 15 or 16. I think that looks good. Go
right down. So that's good. Now, if you notice down here, remember when we click on this arrow and we're doing an edit, is going to show that
edit what it looks like before we commit to
inserting it into video. And if you look here, this blue area with
the blue handles, this is where the error
was going to appear. So it will start here and
it's going to end here. If you want to increase
the amount of time. Right now, it's gonna
be in the video for 3 s. If you want to
hit this up arrow, it will now be for 4 s. It will lengthen this timeout. Let's see what that's
gonna look like. We're going to preview the
edit by clicking on this. I think that looks pretty good. So we're gonna say, okay, we're going to
commit to this edit. Okay? Alright, so now that
we've done that, we're going to scrub down
a little bit further. And I'm going to show you how
to do insert sound effects. So yet again, click
on your tools, drop-down, come up to sound. Sound effects. Narrow nature. So we'll
choose the nature one. Click on that. If you want to hear
what the sun effects sounds like before
you commit to it, you can do that by just
clicking on the arrow. Click it off. You can do that to all of them. I kinda liked the idea
of having some thunder, even though it's
not cloudy there. I'm going to put some
thunder in to my video. So I'm just going to click on the word that's inserting
it into the video. It's 4.64 s and it's going to appear in
this section right here. If I want to move where that
thunder is going to appear, I can do so just by
grabbing the bar. And once again, we
can preview this edit by clicking the arrow button. So let's do that. Alright, so that's pretty good. I like that. I'm
going to click Okay. And now we have our
edits in there. And you will see these
in your timeline. You'll see that
this is the thunder and this is where
the arrow appears. So whenever you put some sort
of edit into your video, there's always gonna
be some sort of visual representation of that. You can actually
click on these later. I can click on that. I can go up here. And I can actually get rid of
this. So that's the error. Or if I want to get
rid of this arrow, I don't like it anymore. I can click the trash can
and the arrow is gone. You can do that with every
single edit you can do. Alright, so that's
how you put in shapes and that's how you
put in sound effects. Let's get to the next lesson and we'll do some more things.
7. Inserting Image/Video And Text Overlays: Alright, so there you have,
it cuts in transitions. You can see that it's
really fun, very simple, a whole bunch of options on those transitions in particular, which is really, really cool, really makes it look
very professional. Alright, so in this lesson, what I want to
cover are overlays. I want to do a video
and image overlay, like you saw in the introductory
video to this course, where I can overlay either
over the entire video, we're in a corner, a video, or an image of your choosing. And I'm also going
to do text overlays. Again, like you saw in the introductory
video to this course. A lot of fun and
really cool stuff. So why don't we
get right back to my computer and get into it and start having
some fun with that. Okay, So here we are back
at our Grand Canyon video, and I want to show
you how to do when image overlay and a video overlay as well as text overlay. So we're going to click
on our Tools drop-down, find overlay, and
click on image. And this will give
you recent files you may have used as overlays. If NADH, you're going
to find something on your computer or using
a stock library. I've used these, I'm
going to use the cow. He's obviously very interested
in the Grand Canyon. It overlays the image. I'm going to re-size this down. So I'm going to grab
the corner down here, resize it down. Then just grab the image is positioned a little bit better. We can re-size it,
we can crop it. We can click on style and we
can do oval, rounded edges. We can also put a bit of
a fuss around the edge, which is really, really
almost imperceptible. But it's there. This is going
to fade in and fade out. And we can also adjust
the opacity down here. I'm going to leave it
fully non-transparent. So again, as always, this is showing us down here where this is going to
appear in the video. And it's saying that it's
going to appear for 3 s and it's going to
fade in and fade out. So let's preview this Edit. Alright, there you have it. If you'd like that and
you want to keep it, you can do okay, in this case, since I'm
gonna do a video overlay now I'm just going to click
Cancel and get rid of that. So to do the video, once again, click on our tools. Overlay. At the bottom of
the list you'll see video. Click on that. This gives you some recent videos
you've worked with. This is the only one
I've worked with. I'll click on that. And it's going to upload
the video for me. There you have it. Put that again in the corner. And if we just click
on Video Options, you'll see one thing
is highlighted here. Use audio, Yes, So I'm
talking in this video, but I don't want that to
appear in this video. I just want to have
it be silence. So I'm going to do is
click that so it says no. So you will not hear the
audio from this video. Click Done. It's showing us that it's going to
fade in and fade out. And we can also do style here, round the corners a little bit. You also do an oval if we want a little bit of a
fuzzy edge to it. Done. So you'll notice that it's showing a little
longer period here. This video is a little
over 13 s long. I don't want it to
appear that long, so I'm going to grab the bar
on the right with my mouse. I'm going to shorten
this edit down to roughly five or so seconds. Now let's preview this Edit. Alright, so that's what
your video would look like. That's how easy it is to do. If you'd like that click Okay, to commit to that edit. Again, we're going to cancel this because
I'm going to show you how to do a
text overlay now. So cancel out. Click once again on your
tools drop-down overlay text. And you can see it opens
up a text bar force. So I can do is
just highlight all this backspace and I can type something
different in there. Right? I can grab this just
like everything. I can move it around like that. I can click on the style. It's gonna give me some
different things to color. My texts can change,
kind of like that. Blue. We can change our font. We can change our size. If you want to do a
highlight color on it, we can do that as well. Just like a yellow
highlighter, e.g. that you would use
on a piece of paper. We can do bold, so we
can do italicized, so we can do underscore, we can do strikethrough. Our justification so
we can justify to the left, center, right, or justification either way, we can also justify how
it appears in the top, middle, or bottom of the box. So an awful lot of
options there. Look at. You can also click on
the Background button. And it's going to
let you choose the color of the background. So if you want the background
to be pink, we can do that. Much lighter, we can do that. We can choose no color as well. So now we just have the text with the image from the video, the back of the, the area to show through it kind of like this
light gray areas. So I'm going to stick
with that. We can also adjust the opacity. So if you want a little bit of that video to show through, you can really, really
cool effects here. Click Done. Once again, we can preview or
edit right here. Alright. So we're going to click Okay, in that edit is in
here and you can see this area right here shows
you that you have in it. Alright, so that's
how to do that. Let's move on to
the next lesson. We'll cover some more
editing features. Let's go.
8. Inserting Music Into Your Video: Alright, so there you have it. That's how easy it is to insert both shapes and sound
effects into your video. But how about music like
a here at the end of my videos or you hear in the introductory
video to this course, the great thing about
Screencast-O-Matic is with the video editor. There's a stock library
of music at that you can use to download and
lay over your video. You can do it either
in a small section like I do at the
end of my videos. We can do it over
the entire video. And that's what I want
to show you right now. So let's get back to my computer and I'm going to show
you how to do that. Okay, everyone here we are back at our Grand Canyon video. As mentioned, what I wanna do
in this lesson is show you how to overlay music
into your video. And there's a couple of
different ways to do that. So let's look at the first one. If you look over
here on the right, you'll see that there
is a music plus icon. I'm going to click on that. It will open up a box of stock music available
through Screencast-O-Matic. On the left panel here it's showing you the different
types of songs. So acoustic, ambient,
children's music, cinematic, corporate, etc, etc. You can choose from all of
these. If you click on that, you'll get a number
of different songs. These show the songs
that I've used recently. And just like with
the sound effects, if you want to preview what a
sound or music sounds like, you can click on the arrow before inserting it
into your video. I like that one, so why
don't we use that one? Now it's importing it into
the song, into the video. We click on it. That music is all
related to the video. Here comes our text
overlay from earlier. Now if you want to change
this a little bit, you can click on the
3 bar right here. You can adjust your
volume up or down. It's going to fade in at
the very beginning for 2 s, so it'll go from
zero to full volume in 2 s. And same
thing at the end, it'll be 3 s. If you want it
to loop, which is automatic, it will loop around and so
it keeps playing throughout the duration of the video. Now if you look
down at the bottom, if I just click on that again, you see the blue area. That is the music in a few
clicked on the up volume. You'll notice that that bar increases because it's
increasing the volume. Same thing if you click down. That's going to change. Alright, so that's the
first way to insert music. We're going to
unclick that and take that music out of the video. Now it's not there. Let's say you want music and just
a part of the video. Click on your tools, drop-down, click on
sound, click on music. We're going to choose the
same song, always in motion. And now we can see, you can
see we have grab bars here. So let's say we want
it to be just in this first half of our
first part of the video. So now it's going to appear
just in-between these bars. You can see the music sound right here represented
by the blue area. If you want to preview this, Let's click on this. You can see that it
fades in and fades out. So it fades in for 2 s, fades out for 3 s. We can also in this one decrease
or increase the volume. So look again down at the
bottom, the blue area. As I click and increase volume, you can see that it's going up. Clicked down. If I preview it again, should be a little
bit louder now. Slightly. That's one of the nice
things that the changes are very small so you
just keep clicking. It can really fine tune
what it is you want. So it's that simple. Just use one of those two
functionalities over here, or use the Tools drop-down menu, click sound, and port the music. Choose what you want,
and then you can choose the timeline right here. You notice that this is a
pairing for 13.52 s. And again, if you want to change that,
you can just grab the bar. And now it's appearing for
9.7 s. Really very simple, just like with all this
stuff is Screencast-O-Matic. It is so simple and easy to do. Let's commit to this edit. And now we have the
music in our video. Alright, so that's it. Let's
move on to another lesson.
9. Adjusting Volume And Speed: Alright, so welcome back. So there's yet another
insertion we can do music, we've done video, we've done image overlays,
we've done texts, we've done shapes, we've done sound effects,
and we've done music. That's a huge amount of stuff. But there's still some
more things I want to show you with
Screencast-O-Matic. So what I'm gonna do
now is I want to show you how to adjust the speed of your video if you
want to speed it up or slow it down for
dramatic effect. Or if you want to
adjust the volume because maybe it's
too loud or it's too low when you want to
increase the sound so people can hear
you're talking e.g. I'm going to show you how to do that now with a video editor. Let's get back to
my computer screen and I'll show you
how to do that. Okay, so here we are. And I'm going to
use this video as a way to show you how to adjust the volume of your video and also how to adjust
the speed of your video. By the way, in case
you're wondering, No, I did not go to the
Ohio State University. I do know somebody
who did though. So out of my affection
for that person, I am using this video. So let's get into it. So as far as the volume
goes, once again, you want to click on
your tools drop-down. And you want to go to Volume. Click on that. You notice you get the pinkish
bar in which you can do is you can drag that over a certain section
of your video. And if we click right here, it will open up this box so we can completely take the sound out of that area of the video. We click on this. The sound bar has
now disappeared. This is the sound
is now disappeared. If we click back on it,
the sounds reappeared. If you want to
change the amount of volume to that particular area, we can use the up
and down arrows. So if we click up, you notice this area now is much louder than the
rest of the video. And if we go down, we can get very, very minimal in our volume. We can test that out by
using the arrow button. Okay, so that works pretty well. So what we'll do is we will
commit to that, say, okay. So now if you look, you'll
notice that the sound of this area is much lower
than the surrounding areas. You can also mute it
out again just by clicking over here where
the red line is through it. So there's something going on in the video that you
want to mute out. You can do that. Alright, let's do speeding up a
section of the video. Let's go right here. Alright, so once again, we'll
click on the tools icon. Speed, speed up. Now we have the purple bar. Here. We're going to drag
right through this area. And it says two times faster. So we can test this out by
clicking on the preview. Now one thing you notice
that it does mute out when you have
the speedup section. Unfortunately, they don't
have the functionality where the speed
will also speed up. It does automatically mute. I was spoken to
Logan about that. He said that is the
way it's designed, but they are aware
that some people would like to have
the sound speed up and they may offer
that in the future. But for right now,
we'll always mute out the area that
is in the speedup. You can also slow it
down. By the way. You can change the
amount of speed here. So two times faster,
four times faster. Do you want to keep that?
You'd just click, Okay. Now you notice this section
right here is highlighted. That's your spin up section. And you will see that the sound, the bar is now out, so it is muted out. But that's how you
can change the volume of a section of your video
or the entire video. You can drag that
bar all the way across and change the volume
of your entire video. You can also change the
speed of a section or the entire video by using the volume button and also
using the speed button. Alright, That's how you do that. Let's move on to
the next lesson.
10. Inserting Highlights And Blurs: Well, alright,
there you have it. That's how you can change the speed of your
video and also change the volume or even mute out
a section of your video. Still a couple more things
I want to show you guys. I want to show you
how to highlight a section of your video
and even zooming out. And I also want to
show you how to put a blurry section in your video in case
you have some sort of sensitive information
that you want to blur out and keep from being visible. So let's head back
to my computer and we'll take a look at
those two things. Okay, so here we are back
at our Grand Canyon video. And I'm going to use this
to show you how to do the highlight function and
also the blur function. Let's take a look first at
the highlight function. So as always, click on
your tools drop-down menu. Look for the overlay, and
then look for a highlight. Click on that. And that'll
open up a box here. So what I'm gonna do is
I'm going to highlight this structure that's sticking
up in the middle here. So I can grab the box like that and make it
what I need it to be. I'm going to add a Zoom to this, so I want to make it larger. So it zooms out like that. And you probably know
by now this is how long it's going to stay in the video. So right now this highlight
effect is going to fade in and then fade
out for a total of 3 s. Let's take a look at that. It fades right back out. So it's that simple. You can just use the highlight function. You notice there are times when I'm highlighting things down here on the timeline, and
that's what I'm doing. I'm using the highlight
functionality. You can take that. You noticed that when I do that, it'll pop up here and you can see it up in the
main part of the screen. So you can take that and move
it around as you need to. Use the Zoom functionality
to make it larger. Really, really a cool tool. And I like that one a lot. It's great for
doing the courses. So let's say we don't want this, we're just going
to get out of that. So we're gonna do cancel, so we get rid of that. And I'm going to show
you how to do blur now. Tools, drop-down, overlay. Look for blur. Click on that. And once again we
have a box pop-up. And now this time, rather than highlighting the
structure in the middle, I'm going to blur out this
rock formation in the middle. Like that. Alright? Now
if you look down here, the opacity, we can
really blur it out. So we'll just go
something like that. And this is appearing for 3 s. Let's give it a test and
see what it looks like. There's your blur. So we'll click OK and we'll keep that at. Now you can see that this yellow box represents where your blur is. That's great. If you have a video where
you have something on there, like some personal
information may be an account number or maybe an address or
anything like that, that you want to
blur out a name. You want to keep private. You can use the blur
functionality for doing that. Alright, so that's it. Let's move on to the next
part of the course. Thanks.
11. Course Wrap-up and Class Project: Alright, Well there you have it. That's how you can use
Screencast-O-Matic to edit your videos and make
them look like they just came out of Hollywood or
at least close to it. So hope you had a lot
of fun with that. There's so many great features
here are the transitions, overlaying texts
over Lenny video. Just a lot of really cool, fun things for you
guys to do and explore that we covered
here in the course. Speaking of which that gets
us to the class project. So what I want you guys to do is I want you to take a
video that you either have or make a video roughly 30 to 60 s. If you have a long video,
you need to cut it down. You can refer to that section of the course where we
cut down the video. And I want you to again
create a 3D dash 62nd video. And I want you to
put a transition at the front of the video and
a transition at the end. I want you to overlay either a video or an image
that you have onto the video. Again, like we looked at in
that section of the course. I also want you to overlay
some texts which we did cover. And lastly, I want
you to overlay some music either
in a section of the video or over
the entire video, which again we covered
in this course. So you can refer back to
all those sections of the course to do the things
here in the class project. If you guys have any
questions at all, please don't hesitate
to reach out to me via the class
discussion portal. There's a section for asking questions. Put that question in. I will get back to you as
quickly as I possibly can. And I really look forward
to having you guys go to the class project
section and upload your videos if you want to
put a couple of sentences in of texts to describe
what it's about. We'd love to see it and I can't wait to see
all these projects. Again, if have any
questions, reach out to me and I'll get back to you
as quickly as possible. So that's it. That's how to use a Screencast-O-Matic
to edit your videos. I hope you guys
enjoyed this course. As I said earlier,
please follow me on Skillshare because
they have a lot of new courses coming out, so I'd appreciate
you doing that. So you can be made aware of all those new courses as
soon as they come out. And that's it. That's a wrap. Thank you very much
and I look forward to seeing you on the next course.
