1. Introduction : I'm all ears, I'm all ears. Amalia's, you know, guys, Americans can be a really hard to understand. Sometimes they talk very fast. They use a lot of slangs. They smile several wars together making a words. They only pronounce parts of many words we use. So guys, if you are learning English language, you definitely need to know a lot of English idioms. As you know, we use English idioms in conversations, in business, in exams, essays, in books, in movies, in music, and in every other situation where English language is used. And after taking this course, you will understand 200 of the most common slang and idioms of spoken American English. My dear friends, the method we used in this course can help you to understand and keep these ATMs in mind for a very long time. This course includes 20 comprehensive units, and each unit consists of six stages. In every single stage, you will improve a particular skill. Following these stages will 100% guarantee your success. You'll get the chance to improve your speaking, listening and review these phrases and expressions in different movie scenes. Your wish is my command. Your wish is my command. Here, wish is my command. Your wish is not coming. You wish is my command. Imagine you are watching a movie and then you will face these phrase. You shoot yourself in the vote, giving GAAP so many extra opportunities. Then we would fix a problem understanding this part. Or you are in the middle of the conversation with your friends. And then one of your English friends says, I'm going to tie the node's next month, but we have no idea what that means. Or you are taking an ILD or TOEFL exam and then you would face the symptoms. Racism was not a factor in the case. That was a red herring, THE round in by the defense lawyers. But maybe you would get confused and might not understand. Or red herring. Idioms are important parts of English learning and they really are thick on the ground. You see, you didn't maybe understand me here. Thick on the ground. These an EDM, which means the existing in large numbers. We use ATMs all of the time. On the radio, on the TB, in the news, in magazines, at social gatherings, or when we are just making small talk with a colleague at work. At the end of this course, you will be able to communicate more effectively and get more confidence. 2. Unit 1 : Study New Idioms: The expressions we will learn in this section are, shoot yourself in the phot. My lips are sealed. Hit the nail on the head. Titan one's belt and frog in the throat. Okay, My dear friends, let's start with ADM number one, should oneself in the fault. So just think about it. What happens if you shoot yourself in the phot? That's right. You will definitely harm yourself, right? So it means to harm yourself in some way by doing some things to pit or making a silly mistake. Or we can say to damage one's plan or progress through a foolish actions or words. Okay, My dear friends, let me give you more examples so you can understand it better. Okay, My dear friends listen to these examples. I think you might be shooting yourself in the phot if you don't take his offer. This is a great upper extremity. So if you actually shoot yourself in the phot, you harm yourself in some way by doing something stupid or making a silly mistake. My brother has shot himself in the fold twice by turning down buyers for his house. Why does carry always shoot herself in the photo by saying the wrong thing? So she damages their own plans and hair own progress through foolish actions or words. Expression number 2, my lips are sealed. My lips are sealed. Sealed here means guys closed or faster than so I think now it's easier for you to understand, right? So my dear friends, this is set when you are promising to keep a cigarette or promise. This expression means that I will not share this cigarette or this gossip with anyone. We can also use these expressions. It's just between you and me. Or we can tell our friend. Moms the word yes, moms the word which means keep this secret and do not share it with anybody. So my lips are sealed. It's an informal way to tell people that your promise to keep this secret. Don't worry, Ted. I'm not going to tell the teacher you cheated. My lips are sealed. Which means that actually I will tell no on this secret or this gossip. All please don't tell him you saw me here. Don't worry. My lips are sealed. I promise not to tell your secrets. You can certainly it's Ross me to keep my lips sealed about how much money you have in that bank. So guys, as you know, this is set when you are promising to keep a secret. Explosion number three, hit the nail on the head. Hit the nail on the head. If you guys hit the nail on the head, you say something that is exactly right or completely through. We use this expression to describe exactly what is causing a problem or a situation. If you guys hit the nail on the head, you do exactly the right thing. Or we can say to do something in the most efficient and effective way. So my dear friends, let me give you more examples so you can understand it better. When Ted said that Barney couldn't be trusted, he really hit the nail on the head. So hit the nail on the head means to say something that is exactly right or completely true, or to describe exactly what is causing a situation or problem? My kit, the nail on the head, when he said most people can use a computer without knowing how it works. So he said they exact thing. I think make hit the nail on the head. When he said that what's lacking in this company is a feeling of confidence. So guys, to hit the nail on the head is to say something that is exactly right or completely true. Experts on number four, Thai 10 ones belt? Yes. Tai Ten one's belt, which means to spend less money than you did before because you have less money. So in these situations, you must tighten your belt. So muddy or phrase, you should limit your budget. You should leave more modestly and you must make some financial sacrifices. So you must tighten your belt. Tai Ten one's belt. I've had to tighten my belt since I stopped working full-time. So to tighten one's belt means to spend less money than you did before, because you have less money. Things are beginning to cause more and more. It looks like we'll all have to tighten our belts. We all have to limit our budget. We should make financial sacrifices, Right? She said that poor must tighten their belts. Yes, that's right. They should spend less money because they have less money. Expression number five, frog in somebody's throat, or we can say frog in the throat. If you have a frog in the throat, we have difficulty in speaking because your throat feels dry or you just want to cough. So in this situation, we say that you have a frog in the throat. It is also, is an inability to speak because of some overwhelming emotions, especially fear or frog in somebody's throat. I add a frog in my throat and I had to clear my throat several times before I could answer. So if you have a frog in the throat, you have difficulty in speaking because your throat feels dry and you want to maybe cough. So it's an inability to speak. Sometimes because of an overwhelming emotion like fear. She says she gets a frog in her throat. When she's nervous. My dad had a frog in his throat, so he couldn't speak very well. 3. Section 2 : Learn New Expressions: The expressions we will learn in this section are slit, somebody's mind. Lose face. Come rain or shine. Terror and yourself. M costs an arm and a lake cost an arm and a leg. Slip one's mind. This is another common expression. Slip one's mind. My dear friends. If something slips your mind, you completely forget about it. So my dear friends, if something slips your mind, it is overlooked or forgotten. For example, I plan to call Jack, but it slipped my mind. I completely forgot about it. And guys, this EDM was first recorded in 1340. I forgot to arrange a meeting with Richard. It completely slipped my mind. So guys, as I said to you, if something slips your mind, you forget about it. You completely forget about it. I meant to tell her that Nick had phoned, but eight completely slipped my mind. I completely forgot about it. This is a very common American expression. My wife's birthday slipped my mind. So I think I'm going to face bad consequences. Lose face ADM number 7. Lose face. My dear friends. If you lose face, you'd become less respected by others. Or we can say to be humiliated. So these situations, you lose face who become less respected by others. If you lose face, you'd become embarrassed or humiliated, especially publicly. And guys, if you lose face, you do something that makes people stop admiring or respecting you. So you'd better not do something stupid. You should not lose face. Johnny's more afraid of losing face than losing money. That's right. So if you lose face, you'd become less respected by others or you become humiliated, right? Sometimes you get embarrassed spatially, publicly. The sales manager lost face with his customers when he continually promise items he couldn't deliver. So he lost his fame and he became embarrassed. He refused to admit he made a mistake because he didn't want to lose base, right? So if you lose face, you do something that makes people stop at my ring or respecting you. Expression number 80 is come rain or shine. This is another common expression we use in everyday English conversation. Come rain or shine. Come rain or shine me is whatever happens. Whether it rains or the sun shines. Come rain or shine. Sometimes, guys, we say come rain or shine. Yes, come rain or shine. Sometimes we can use the short form, like rain or shine. Come rain or shine. This is the complete form. Come rain or shine. I'll see you on Thursday, right? So no matter whether it's raining or shining, I will see you on Thursday. Expression number nine. Turn oneself in. Yes. Turn oneself. And if you turn a criminal end, you take the criminal to the police to turn something and also means to commit a crime? Yes. When you admit the crime, you turn yourself into the police. If your attorney yourself and you surrender, give or deliver information about yourself to the authorities, spatially, the police. And guys, in this usage, the noun or the pronoun can come between turn and yes, that's the correct structure. The hit and run driver turned himself into the police the day after the accident. That's great. So he actually at MIT a crime. If you turn yourself in, you actually surrender or you deliver or giving information about yourself to the police, to the authorities, right? Terry herself in. There is no way out, which means surrender, right? Surrender gave up. She turned herself and to the local police. Exploration number ten cost an arm and a lake? Yes, cost an arm and a lake. And UK they also say cost of bombed, cost a packet or cost the earth. So guys, if something costs an arm and a leg, it is very, very expensive. For example, in some countries, BMW car costs and Armana lake. It is very expensive and people cannot afford it. I'd love to buy a BMW car, but they cost an arm and a leg, which means they are very, very expensive. They cost an arm and a leg. That's right. So you'd better buy a different car. These are tickets cost an arm and leg. The repair work cost an arm and a leg. That's very expensive and probably we cannot afford it. 4. Quick Review in Movies: What shoot yourself in the foot.
